Halliburton, he'll slam it with a right hand. Live from the Rich Eisen Show studio in Los Angeles. And the Eastern Conference Championship has been captured by the Indiana Pacers. The Rich Eisen Show.
What is the honest latest? We don't talk about the Knicks that much. That's the one that tugs at me a bit. Today's guest, actor Jason Schwartzman, lead voice of the NBA on ESPN. Mike Breen, writer and director Kevin Smith. And now it's Rich Eisen. Well, that's correct. Welcome to this edition of the Rich Eisen Show.
We're live here in Los Angeles, California. It's June, everybody. It's June. And that'll wrap it up. Could you imagine if that's all I said today and just left everyone at Roku or on the Infinity Sports Network hanging for the next two hours and 58 minutes?
It'd be the easiest day of work of all time. Hey, tap out. It's June, everybody. But no, we've got lots to talk about here on this this program and lots of sports to talk about, lots of movies, TV to talk about in this pop culture program. Just had a very nice chat with Jason Schwartzman in our green room. He's going to be first into this studio. Mountainhead popped on to like, is it we calling an HBO Max yet or is that coming later on this this summer at any rate? God, I miss succession and the man who brought succession to the screen, Jesse Armstrong, created a movie, Mountainhead. Jason Schwartzman is in it, along with Steve Carell, Rami Youssef.
And it's just awesome. Susie and I watched it over the past week. You should see it as well, but not now, because Jason's going to join us in 20 minutes time in studio. We've got a great celebrity, we're false for him. Kevin Smith to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Dogma is in studio in hour number three. So we'll talk about that film with him, that incredible cast and maybe Mike Del Tufo, a little bit of New Jersey talk with with one of New Jersey's most famous and finest. He'll be in studio hour number three. And then in the middle, getting set to call his 20th NBA Finals.
Mike Breen, the Emmy Award winning announcer, getting set to call the NBA Finals on ABC, starting on Thursday between the Pacers and Oklahoma City Thunder. Good to see you over there, Christopher Brockman. How are you? What up, man?
It's an overreaction Monday, Monday as well. So we'll have that segment later on. Let's do it.
844-204, Rich is the number to dial. Already said hello to you, Mike Del Tufo. We'll do it anyway, once again. And TJ Jefferson is the candle lit over there. Oh, it's lit. It sure is. It's lit. Team is rolling.
Feel good. Which team is rolling? Well, Soto's hitting. OK, Soto is hitting. Hey, man, listen, that's why they call it a batting average. So he's been below average.
In order to get to his normal average, he's going to be super above average, one would say. So that's good. And you're going to be your Metropons are coming to Los Angeles to take on the Dodgers. Four game, four game switch. Oh, hey, man, they're going to any. I'm trying to find I'm trying to find somebody.
My go tos are out of town. So what does that mean? Well, the people I would normally go to baseball games. No, I understand that.
But that made it seem like you're looking for free tickets. You know, we know not in this case. Let's put a pin in this. I need to investigate this. Oh, there's lots to investigate. That's that's coming up on this on this program. All right. Here's the scoop.
Here's the scoop. Listen, we all know the Pacers made the NBA finals, won the Eastern Conference, and I want to give them their due first up. This is why you watch basketball, a team like this, because their team, their team, they've got a terrific player who for some. Reason was voted most overrated by his peers in an athletic poll and Tyrese Halliburton.
OK, you see you see you see overrated. I see a guy who can play his position better than most. That's for damn sure.
And then this is a team that, you know, has had miles turn around for a very long time, and then they just added pieces. Pascal Siakam is a hell of a piece. He's going for his second ring. You know, he got one in Toronto.
Now he's going to try and do one in the in the United States of America. Nemhardt, Nie Smith, TJ McConnell, Obie Toppin, you know, just to name a few. Just to name a few on this team that they just keep running out at you.
They keep running out. I knew it was over when Thomas Bryant made a three pointer. You know what I mean? Like, that's when I knew it was all OK. Like, all right, if he's if he's throwing in threes, then this thing is toast.
It's a wrap. But what they do is play at such a remarkable pace. The Pacers are setting the pace.
They're always looking to go fast. And the number of times that the Knicks would score. And either make it a one possession game or a two possession game or make their lead a two possession game, or they made their lead a two possession game or a three possession game. The Pacers would inbound the ball so damn fast and they'd have numbers in the front court while the Knicks are still, you know. Picking themselves up off the floor because the way that they would score is they're trying to just bull rush their way to the hoop. Then they'd score and then they'd be on the floor and then suddenly, OK, it's three on two break, two on one break and they'd score.
And suddenly it would be a two possession lead again or a two one possession. You get my point. They're just relentless, man. They're relentless.
And I say kudos to them. And, you know, Tyrese Halliburton. We were talking about his performance and a lot of people now are talking about his his Kirby Enthusiasm type reaction to not being named the MVP of the conference finals.
So it was Siakam instead, whatever, talking about his dad, talking about the Hallabaltons, the whole business. He's just a fascinating figure in every way, shape or form. And, you know, when he's he's not your guy, I'll be telling you, it's just, you know, but I'll I'll get to the Knicks perspective in a second.
He's a wrestling fan, so I got love for him. I gotcha. And by the way, and, you know, I'll put a pin in that point for saying I'm trying to be a professional here and talk about a team that won the conference.
Yes, yes. That was dominated by Cleveland all season long with all due respect to the defending world champs. We were all thinking the Celtics were just lying in wait anyway.
They'll get healthy at the right time. And instead it went the exact opposite way. And then it was the Knicks who had home court advantage and the Knicks were supposed to be better than the Pacers because they added all of these pieces. And the Pacers are the ones who ran it back. And who's the team that's representing the Eastern Conference in the finals? The Indiana Pacers, who, as we all know, have a terrific coach in Rick Carla, superb coach in Rick Carla, who comes from Dallas. And Mark Cuban was saying it on a podcast earlier this week. They try to trade Jalen Brunson to pop over the Kings to draft Tyrese Halliburton in the draft and couldn't do it.
And then eventually traded for him. And now look who's going to lead the Pacers to the finals. This is a franchise that took a chance on me. I saw something that other people didn't see in me. You know, sometimes I think they saw more in me than I saw in myself. You know, Coach Carlisle, the whole staff, you know, KP, Chad, all those guys just stay on me all the time, you know, to keep getting better, to keep improving, you know, to keep pushing. And, man, I wouldn't be here without those guys.
So I appreciate them taking a chance on me. I love being a Pacer. You know, there's nothing like it. And this is a really, really special feeling for me.
And, you know, I'll take the time to reflect on it, you know, later, because, you know, there's still a lot more work to do. But, you know, this is really exciting. Congratulations to the Eastern Conference champion, Indiana Pacers. And now they're going to be taking on Oklahoma City, a matchup we'll talk about with Mike Breen later on. My first blush thoughts are the Pacers are going to have to do what they did against the Knicks. Plus, plus against Oklahoma City, who can run people off the bench as well, who can run you out of the building if they so choose. Defensively, they're as terrific as a team who's won their conference as I've seen in some time anyway.
So and it's also the matchup between two teams that lead their the league and lead their conference in having their fans all wear the same colored shirts. So I'll just say this. Just take Jimmy Goldstein out of the mix here. Jimmy Goldstein will be at the game.
So whatever, take him out of the mix. I will just say this. This is my first blush NBA Finals preview. Anybody in Oklahoma City or anybody in Indiana who does not wear the shirts that are given to them to wear. You're going to stick out like a sore thumb.
And I'll tell you this. It's going to be a contest. Who's not wearing the shirts? Don't be that person. OK, because I'm going to be watching and we're going to see.
Who's going to let the team down by not wearing a shirt because the other team is going to. It's good analysis. Thank you. Yeah. Yeah.
And then there's, you know, stuff like transition defense. You know. Now, then, as for the New York Knickerpockers. Here's my opinion of the Eastern Conference finals.
Damn it. I wanted to beat the Pacers so damn bad. God, I wanted to beat them because when Tyrese Halliburton is not your guy. Indiana, he is just infuriating, infuriating with the with the choke thing and this thing.
And then that thing just can't want to beat another person more. And I say this knowing how Tyrese is a number one dude. I get it. He was great. Took a picture, you know, gave a shout out to Coop because Coop had him on multiple fantasy teams and all that. God, I wanted to beat him. I wanted to beat all the Pacers.
I wanted to beat everybody. But they couldn't because they just didn't play well enough. They blew game one. That's what cost them. That's why we're not talking about a game seven tonight. That's why Turner signed off on Saturday night. That's why the Knicks are now in an off season where you got to wonder, even with all their maneuvers, even with Cat coming and playing very well throughout the season, even with Bridges coming and trading all of those picks, even with all of that. They're still not good enough. And you got to sit here and wonder if Tatum didn't blow out his Achilles, would they have been good enough to hold off the Celtics in the second round?
That's the sort of things you've got to think about. And the two crazy ass storylines that you're hearing about or that you heard about throughout much of the Eastern Conference Finals, which was Brunson holding on the ball too damn long and their offensive sets would start right at half court because the Pacers were picking up the Knicks from the first inch of inbounding the ball. And then they would try and pick and roll. And the Pacers were pushing this thing out to the mid-court logo and it was Brunson's fault. And the offense couldn't get into a rhythm because it was the fault of the generationally brilliant player that that fans love for good reason. And then Karl-Anthony Towns, his defense, that's what we're hearing about now is that the Knicks were infuriated by his lack of either understanding or buy-in or whatever it is. And then it's on the coach. One of the most successful Knicks seasons in a long time now filled with some recriminations. And how real is it?
How viable is it? Tom Thibodeau didn't turn to some of the guys on the bench until like Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals. And then the question is, does he survive? Word is that Leon Rose, the team executive who turned this franchise around, likes him. It's up to James Dolan.
Good luck there. Well, Thibodeau's future was brought up to Brunson in the first blush press conference after getting blown out in the second half on Saturday night. You talk about the confidence, obviously.
I feel like nobody takes more criticism than Tom. And this team obviously has turned around during his tenure. Do you kind of feel that going forward, he's the same guy to lift you guys the rest of the way? At next level? Is that a real question right now? You just asked me if I believe that if he's the right guy. Yes.
Thanks, guys. And that's the end of the press conference. So here's the deal. Thibodeau should stay.
Period. And you know, he should stay because if he doesn't, Brunson's pissed. And you've got to make sure Brunson is as happy as they come and then figure out what to do next.
You asked me that question before the show and I said, if they want to step it up, if they feel the need, they have to step it up. And they wound up shy, despite having a apparently healthy roster and home court advantage dropped in their laps against a team that they should have been better than because they added all of these improvements and had a better regular season record throughout the year than the Pacers. Then they got to make sure Giannis says, I want to play for them. That's it. If Giannis is in play, that's the one.
And then, you know, with all due respect to everybody out there, I would love to see Kat run it back. I love the guy. He's a local guy. He's awesome.
Awesome. He's exactly the forward facing star you want to have for your franchise. But if you can get Giannis pairing with Brunson and not tear this team apart. And the way to do that is to have Giannis basically say, I want to go there, forcing the Bucks hand. I don't know how you do that if you're the Knicks.
You got to do something, you know, as currently constructed roster and coaching staff, you're not good enough to win the East. So there is a move there. It's a it's a big move or it's a small tweak. But it's one of the two. Well, I mean, it's also they don't have to tear anything down. They don't. They're very close, like Chris said.
I don't think they have to. It's just one, maybe two players difference. And they can be right.
Right. Because we're talking about Oklahoma City is a team and the Pacers are a team. And they play team basketball in a way that, you know, if you're interested in in in well played, well executed, well coached team basketball.
And these this finals is for you. You know, everybody calls that boring. Now, you know, well, I mean, there's no you know, like. There were no superstar super team hookups here, which you would think that people would appreciate this, right? Well, we will see.
And we've got, you know, two more days to talk about that. I'm just talking about the Knicks right now. If you feel that there has to has to be a major move, there's only one of them. That's it. But that would require blowing up your entire roster, except for Brunson. If Giannis says I want to go to New York and the plus the Bucks are forced to have their hand is forced. Maybe not. That's why I'm it's a crazy ass.
Proposal I'm putting out there. But making a tweak here and there, I would be fine as well, because I love watching this team, man. I love watching them.
They're one of my favorite Knicks teams to watch. But damn it. That's the headline. Damn it. It's a good headline. It was right there. Oh, and then Saturday was a great sports day watching that, as well as looking down at my phone.
Oh, it's 18 to two. The Dodgers beating the Yankees as the Knicks get eliminated. That was an awesome Saturday. That was a great sports day. I made sure not to text you for those Yankee Nick fans out there. And there's lots of us. That's a shame.
Thank you. I appreciate that sports spike. I do because, you know, I'll ball it up and spit it right.
Definitely not rooting for you guys. I know that. I'm aware of that.
I'm aware of that. You're a big, you're a big Pacer fan over there. You love Indiana.
No, I don't love them. OK, very good. Eight, four, four, two or four riches.
The number to dial. Let's have some fun. Jason Schwartzman is here. A great celebrity.
True or false? Mountainhead is available for streaming on Max right now, starring Jason, who's coming out here. I believe he's a Dodger fan who's happy with this weekend's results as well. Back here on the Rich Eisen Show, live on the Roku channel, our radio audience will return first of two times. I welcome to the Rich Eisen Show one of the stars of Mountainhead, available right now on max, which is available on Roku. Jason Schwartzman is here. Ladies and applause line. It is great to be here. Congratulations on this movie, man. Thank you.
You are most welcome. Let's take a look at it. You play for working class. No, wait a minute.
That's the exact opposite. Oh, my God. Billionaires running the world basically from their cell phones and from eating and from drinking and just hanging out together in this beautiful spot in Utah. Check it out.
Mountainhead. Oh, my God. A new car is exciting. And that is and that's one of the tamer scenes. Yes, yes, it is. It is. It is. By the way, I love the choice that you probably made there to just cut open an orange in the middle of trying to run people's lives from your basement with a bowling alley. I'm glad that you that you that you like that originally.
Yes. Jesse Armstrong, the director and writer of this, had suggested maybe you come over and you make a Negroni. And I tried to do that in the first take. Well, as you can see now, it's just me cutting an orange. It's very hard to get through a whole Negroni sale. It was like I was like, this is too much to just let's just keep it citrus.
Let's just keep it a refreshing fruit thing. That's it. Yeah, fantastic. Our radio audience is back. Jason Schwartzman is here talking about Mountainhead available on Max. It was debuted over the weekend. Jesse Armstrong, the man who brought succession to HBO and Max, is now bringing Mountainhead.
What a great cast and a little too on the nose. This this movie feels like right now. Jason, you know, the tech bros run in the world from their phones and just in from their businesses and not really thinking about a lot of things other than themselves. It is interesting. I mean, that I think, you know, Jesse, he apparently pitched this idea.
Yes. In December, wrote it this January and we were shooting it the first week of March. We wrapped shooting this. We wrapped this movie April 6th this year.
It's June 2nd. Yes, I know. But I was going to say that the but but I think that that just to your point is that Jesse, that was always part of the timeline was like because it felt like, you know, that this is a moment from the headlines.
Yeah. And and maybe time shouldn't pass like to comment or to be not comment, but to to make a story about this right now, because it does seem like it's, you know, not too dissimilar to certain things, of course. But we know ours is fiction.
But I think that it's yeah, we that's why I think the movie we made it so fast. So holiday time, you didn't even know this existed, is what you're saying. You don't even so. And then you hear about it first of the year or whatever. I found out about the Super Bowl weekend. I swear. I swear I found out about the Super Bowl weekend.
And no, I didn't know any I didn't know anything about this. In fact, I was about to start making an album with my friend. We were in the recording studio in pre-production. And then we next thing I know, we're doing an audition, sending in some, you know, it was like a whole it was the weirdest pre-production for an album I've ever done. Did the album happen? We didn't do it. No, we didn't do it.
OK. Yeah. And then we just this thing happened fast. And there's a lot of lines. This is a lot of lines. I got to tell you, Jason, I'm watching this with Susie, who, you know, because our kids went to schools.
The greatest. And we're I'm sitting here thinking this could be a Broadway play. You know what I mean? Like, yeah, this where that's it. Yeah. If you put an intermission in there, this could be a play on Broadway. That's interesting, because that's one thing we always said as the as we were these scenes are quite long.
Yes. And and the way that Jesse directed it and allowed us to work was, you know, to get two cameras going all that. And it was the crew from succession, which was neat. Isn't this the way they shot succession, too?
It is. And I learned all this as we were doing it. But it was neat to also, you know, it's like if you are joined a group of musicians who play together or a team, you walk onto this set and this crew of camera department, the sound, they are like in sync on a different level because they've been doing their show for so long together. And so that was just neat to be a part of. But they were we shot these long, long takes. And in a house where basically you could go anywhere and it wasn't like a typical production where there was lights on one side.
Right. It was like you could go and it was like it felt like a play. And I, I think I suggested that it actually could be a play for sure. There's no question.
Yeah, it would be really, really fun to do. I'm sure Jason Schwartzman here on the Rich Eisen Show, you mentioned that you found out about Mountainhead on Super Bowl weekend. And I found out in the green room before the show. Yeah.
You were probably rooting for the Philadelphia Eagles. Yeah. And why is that?
Why is that? Howie Roseman? Yes.
First of all, let's put all personal things aside. How does he do it? How does he do it? Right. Yeah. It's he's amazing. He it's like Obi Wan Kenobi. It is, you know, like he creates some sort of these are not the draft picks you're looking for.
I know these are not the prospects you want to draft so I can do it because they're from Alabama or Georgia. Right. You know what I mean?
Like that's you know, if Obi Wan Kenobi knew about the SEC football program. I mean, like so. Yeah. Yeah. He kind of did. Maybe like maybe like this.
The sand people over the sand people called in the first one. Oh, God. Now you probably know.
Yeah. But I'll tell you, if I knew that off the top of my head. The jabber jab. Oh, the jabber somehow.
Well, the job was the job. We do know it off the top of our head. Well, I mean, the back of my head, it finally came up. But how good you said if I only knew and then you did. But I'll tell you, Howie Roseman.
Look, this guy's incredible. How do you know him? My wife.
Yes. Brady. She her dearest friend and best friend since they were teenagers is a wonderful woman by the name of Mindy, who is now Mrs. Mindy Roseman. And so, Howie, look, I won't get into it all, but. The great guy, I love him and I'm happy that the Eagles won. I love him. And he loves you.
I love him, too. By the way, I told him I was here off the dome, man. Did you see that? Oh, my God. Have you not? Did you not know this?
No. He he was at the parade. Somebody was just like throwing beers and a can of beer hit him in the head. Look at him. And he goes and he says he gives blood for the franchise. That's what he does. Look at him.
Wow. I'm surprised his blood isn't green. Look at him, though, with those glasses. I mean, that's real.
And that kind of a look at puffer jacket, the whole thing. Oh, yeah. But he's a yeah. And that's a hard that's a hard thing. And it's a he looks like he could be a mountain head with that look. Don't you think? As a character, he. Yeah. My character in Mountainhead, I actually thought about this. OK. Would like to be friends with someone like to be able to say they're friends with like, you know, the GM of a Super Bowl wing team like that is the kind of thing that that I think that these tech bros, the weird like interest in in sports and Hollywood or whatever, just I think is interesting and like being able to say, yeah, I know.
Do you guys want to do you guys want to suggest a draft pick real quick? That kind of just that kind of like weird idea of, OK, you may have money or you may be smart, but it doesn't extend into every part of the world. You can't just just because you did this doesn't mean you can. You know a lot about football. And I think that's what's fun about the movie, by the way, is just that it's it's the people who have no they have no business monkeying with some of this stuff. And they and they and they do. And it's not good. Now I maybe find out why the Eagles draft the way they are, is that some tech bro might be just putting out some fake A.I. and then all of a sudden, you know, Jalen Carter drops to to Howie Roseman. You know what I mean?
Like that's maybe the way it works. We're creating our own sports mountainhead right now. We really are talking about this is insane.
We're really saying, well, we could be blowing the roof off this right now. Jason Schwartzman here on The Rich Eisen Show. Hi, Howie. You're the best. He is. I love the guy.
He loves you. Can confirm he does. So we have something called Celebrity True or False. And we'd like to play it with you here.
And we have our great production value. Roll it. Celebrity True or False. You can't handle the truth.
All right. Celebrity True or False with Jason Schwartzman, one of the stars of Mountainhead available right now on Max. Your cousin, Sofia Coppola, introduced you to the Rushmore casting director at a party.
And that's how you wound up in that film. True. But I mean, do you want me to expand on that?
Please. True. I was at a my my grandfather was a composer and they were celebrating his music in San Francisco. And there was a party and they're playing his music. And there's a woman named Davia Nelson who has a great show called The Kitchen Sisters. If you've ever had a very long running show, lives in San Francisco. Davia is not a casting director. She but had been tasked with being sort of the San Francisco scout for possibly someone to be in this movie.
And they had one in Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, London. Anyway, I was at this event. I was not an actor as a. And I am a drummer, drummer.
Yes. But I was not an actor is not my at all. That wasn't your bag. No, I did not think that that was my bag.
No, no. And neither did my friends. You know, I was not the I was like that, you know, I wasn't the guy you think would be there. So anyway, but so but yes, I but I did love I was precocious. I feel like I was odd.
I was terrible in school, in science, for instance. But I loved it. So it was like they didn't know what to do with me. You know, it's like anyone want to come up and volunteer? Yes.
Anyone else? So my cousin and I did have a crush on a older lady at the time. And I had directed a play, actually. And my cousin was talking to Davia.
They were friends. And she said, what are you working on? She said, I'm doing a film about a 15 year old who is precocious.
A theater director in love with the older woman gets in. And she said, that sounds like my cousin, Jason. And she said, really? Well, where is he? And she said, he's right over there. And actually, I was at this event. I had rented a tuxedo with tails because I'm just so uncomfortable.
What am I going to do? So I rent the thing with the tails. And then I walk over and she said, are you are I've I heard that you're interested in plays. And I said, would you ever consider auditioning for a movie? I thought it was very weird and not to slight drummers, but I was used to people coming up to me and saying, hi, is your singer here? And so you're not used to like, no, you're not. I'm not used to being like the person they're talking to at that time.
I wasn't. So she's telling me about auditioning. And my honest reaction was, yeah, I can the singer and the bass player in our band are good, really good actors.
And they said they suggested that. OK, so then so then you wound up getting the audition. And so I ended up anyway doing it. And it was the first time I ever auditioned for anything in my life. I made a blazer.
I made a patch, my own like my hand done patch. And I went in there basically not thinking I would get it, but thinking it would be a crazy story to tell my friends. I skipped school that day and I got a parking ticket.
And and anyway, but I ended up meeting Wes Anderson at this at this audition. He was twenty seven. I was seventeen.
I just started my senior year of high school at Windward here in Los Angeles. And yeah. And literally it happened so quickly. And we met and I met a person who changed my life instantly. Wow.
Look at that picture right there of the two of you guys. It was the first of six movies that you've done. Yeah. Correct.
He's also the first person at that age. I don't know if you ever had anything like this, but like an adult who's a young adult who actually cares what you have to say about stuff, who's not like your mom or you know what I mean? Like sure.
Like to have something like, well, what music do you like and what do you think about something? It's it's it means a lot as a young person to have someone like that. So, wow.
Well, speaking of your mom, Jason Schwartzman, I mean, we know it's true that your mom is Talia Shire. Yeah. Correct. Is it true you never watched The Godfather till you were seventeen?
Yeah, that's definitely true. What? OK. Well, it was I mean, it wasn't like we were I mean, if she wasn't watching it at the house. She's not like you want to check this out.
But I mean, she's obviously just above Francis Ford. That means is your uncle. Yes. Yes.
So that he was never like, hey, you should see this. No, I wasn't a part of that. No, I it wasn't a part of I know it sounds strange to say, but we didn't that wasn't a big part of my life. My mom, my mom actually was also Adrian and Rocky. And she is for better or for worse. I didn't even really know what she did until I was like 11. Literally in the 80s, you know, we'd be walking around L.A. and people would say, yo, Adrian to her. And she'd say, I don't know what you're talking about. I know because she's so shy. And I say, Mom, everyone keeps calling you this person.
She's like, I don't know what it is, but she never really didn't come clean. Wow. Yeah.
For a while. So when did you see Rocky? It would have been Rocky four, even though I was alive for the other ones. Rocky four was your first Rocky movie.
Yeah. Oh, three, maybe three. Mine was three because I remember the fight on the beach being really I was like, why are they yelling at each other after they just went running? And I but I loved it so much as a big Apollo Creed fan, you know, who isn't. But I remember being a little kid.
I've never said this before. I went to the I didn't grow up on film sets. It was not like that. But the one time I got to go to a film set was Rocky for the big one of the big fight scenes. That I don't really remember. But in the hotel, I remember walking in and Dolph Lundgren was there. And my mom said, this is my son.
He goes, this is your boy. And he put his hand on my head. And it was like the like the Michael Jordan, like the Spike Lee, like my he had my whole head in his hand. And it was such a I don't know the last time you've had a hand cover your head. But it's it is it's it's such a great feeling. It's so weird.
At the same time, you're like, wow, I'm this little like I am. He was amazing. He didn't tell you he was going to break you, did he? No, he didn't say he'd break me, but that would have been great. But I would. I would. I would have. Wow. He couldn't have. You're too loose.
You can't break me. Last one for you. True or false? You are still starstruck around Bill Murray, even though you've worked around a number of projects throughout the years. True.
Yeah, very true. You met on Rushmore, correct? Yes. Yes, I did. Were you aware of who he was? Yeah.
And his his Bill Murray-ness. Yeah. Oh, yeah. I'm you know, Ghostbusters.
OK, great. These movies meant a ton to me. And, you know, it's sort of like people like Bill Murray. That's like a that's like, you know, a dollar bill.
It's like you just you've you've always seen a dollar. You only know that, you know, he's like in your life as a as a it's a fact that this person is, you know, he's not even really human. He's beyond human.
And he meant a lot to me. Those movies, what about? I mean, anyhow, I yes, starstruck would be is, I guess, the way to say it. But I can't believe when he like says my name that starstruck. Yeah, I guess there's a definition of starstruck.
I guess it's not starstruck, but like every time I ask him for his autograph, I'm like, I can't stop shaking. Do you have a good story of a Bill Murray story? I have. Here's what I'll tell you. OK.
He he doesn't live here. And but I've known him now for many years. But when you die, they say, you know, if your life flashes in front of your eyes, I could say that like maybe some of the things that will flash before my eyes are with him because he lives life in an amazing. I have stories that are like they only would happen. Yeah. You know, like but one story that's not it's going to sound like a downer, but it's kind of interesting.
OK. I remember one time we were stuck in a car together in traffic in the back of a car. And I just after a long time, just started to ask him about comedy. He was in a mood where he was very giving with. And he basically would just really talking about like. And I realized while he's saying this, I'm like, this is like I'm getting the the like this is like the secret to the secret sauce.
This is like, you know, the recipe. And I just remember I was like, while he was saying, I just kept thinking, like, don't forget this. Remember that? Oh, my God. That's incredible. Oh, wow. And and then anyway, then he fell asleep next to me.
And I remember just looking at his hands and going like, yeah, look at the Venkman's hands. And long story short, I don't remember a single thing you said. Oh, come on. I just remember the car ride. But maybe isn't that isn't that best me?
I was it was too much, probably the process. But he's a he's a he's a great he's a great person. And and he loves sports. Oh, my God. Yeah, that is for sure.
Charleston River Dogs. So it's true that you he doesn't have a number. You can't contact him, right? Like, is that is that basically it?
Yeah. You're you know, it's it's he just shows. He shows. But it's but when he does.
My God, it's the best. You know, he said something to me that was to change my life. He said, you know, I don't love to work. But when I work, I want to work hard. And I just thought that was like I've always thought that was just the best way to be.
It's like if you're going to do it, do it as you know, and leave it out. And it's just like his his commitment to and he's one of the smartest people I've ever met. And his hands are great.
I love him. You're not remembering anything like that. Sounds like your cousin's movie of what he was whispering in Scarlett Johansson's. I know. Have you ever asked her about that? No.
What do you think that was? I'd never wondered. I never want to ask the question that is like, but you have access. I don't know. Does she even know?
That's amazing. Because I don't I don't know. I think Scarlett Johansson has said that she won't reveal it. And it really wasn't anything. You know, spectacular. You know, I know it is an amazing moment, though, is that.
And it's we're still talking about it's kind of like The Sopranos ending, like what happens, you know? Yeah. Mountainhead is available right now for streaming on Max Dodgers. That's well, were you there this weekend or no? I watched the Friday night game and it was such a thrill. Right.
It's exactly as advertised. Home run, home run, home run. Yeah, I'm a Yankee fan. I feel the second game. I'm very sorry.
I feel I feel differently. You know, but last night was great. Yeah, I know. I know. But, you know, I was I was happy to see Cody Bellinger. Like, that's weird. Like he comes back, you know, as a Dodger fan.
You go to Dodger Stadium. There's so many people in Bellinger, Jersey still. I know. And it's interesting. Yeah.
Mountainhead is available on Max, which is available on Roku as well. Jason Schwartzman here, everybody. I love you guys.

That's O'Reilly Auto dot com slash Eisen. We've done this before with you. Yeah, I've got three social situations.
You are the judge and jury as to what is done. OK. The first one is destination weddings.
OK. It's already funny destination wedding. I say to my wife, we're going to a destination wedding. We should not give a present because my presence is my present.
What do you say, Larry? First of all, where is the wedding? How far is it?
Another country. OK. You don't even go. You don't go.
Well, it's a close family friend. I don't care. I am not flying 14 hours on a plane. Yes. To somebody's wedding.
I'm not going to do that. Even if it's a nice destination where it's a nice hotel and you're set up. No. Fourteen hours on a plane. You can't even breathe. Come on.
So what would be the distance from your house that you an hour and a half by car? That's it. No plane.
You don't get on planes for weddings. Right. OK. Out of the question. Here's social situation number two for you, Larry.
You're going over to somebody's house. OK. All right. For let's say the fight.
The Mayweather McGregor fight has happened to one of our producers, Ken Tullo. OK. They brought desserts.
Fight ends. Nobody's touched the desserts. They like these desserts. Is it OK to take the desserts home?
Well, we did this on Seinfeld. You did? Yeah. The marble right.
Well, the marble. OK. Here's the thing.
Yes. You bring it over. Do they know you brought it over?
Yes, they do. Well, they know you brought it over. Then you can't take it. But what if nobody's tried it? You know, it's not like a bottle of wine. A bottle of wine could be savored later on.
It's still perishable. You bring it to the host. Right. That's true. The host saw it.
It's different. The host can see it. Then you could sneak out.
So if the host never saw it on the table and there's no note. Yeah. That's when you could take it.
If you think if you think you're not going to get caught. Yeah. Then you could take it. Problem is, though, Larry, is you never know what was looking the eye in the sky. That's that's that's the camera. Yeah. But if the host sees it, you can't take it. All right.
The last one for you, Larry. L.D., shoes off on a plane. Do you have a problem with somebody on a plane? I have a big problem with it. Yeah. Yeah.
Keep them on. OK. You know, don't make yourself. It's not your house.
All right. You're outside. You're in public. I don't want to I don't want to see your socks. And God forbid you have a little odor down there who needs that. Right.
And I don't even want to know if you do have it. Exactly. It's close quarters. Come on. Take a couple of minutes. Keep your shoes on.
So those who take their shoes off with shorts on and then put their socks feet up on the bulkhead. Oh, God almighty. No. Oh, God. That is out. Yes.
Oh, yes. Larry David saying that he will only go to a destination wedding if it's an hour and a half by car. That's his version of a destination wedding. So when he showed up at the Josh Allen Haley Steinfeld nuptials this weekend, headlines were made. Not because of what he said on this show, but it's just like, what is Larry David jet fan doing at a Josh Allen wedding? Well, Haley's dad apparently is just like Haley's uncle, a trainer. I believe that is Larry's connection. Oh, interesting.
That's what the report is. And if he's there, it must be local. Well, we mapped it out.
An hour and forty six minutes by car if you're going from his offices, which were in Santa Monica, California. So amazing. But that was, you know, during rush hour traffic.
Oh, baby. That was fun chat right there. That was really fun. And as he's getting up to leave, he said he was at Game one of the Eastern Conference Finals. We're like, wait a minute.
These are just things that, you know, need to find out. We'll have Jason back because he said this is just like his. He's just talking to people with, you know, sports on the background.
We do this for a living every day. It's kind of stupid. I agree.
Yeah, I agree. You know, Mike Breen's about to join us. So we'll talk to the man who's about to call his 20th NBA Finals. He was also a game one of the. He was. No, I don't know if you know.
Maybe not. Oh, yeah. Right. He called Western. He wasn't there.
Nope. He was in Oklahoma City, which is where he will be Thursday. I don't like you have to wait so long. The series are over.
Let's get started. Well, I mean, if I'm not mistaken, when the Western Conference, well, the Western Conference would have ended yesterday if it was game seven. Tonight would have been game seven for the East. So you've got to give some time. You know, Mike Breen coming up our number two.
Still here on our program. I mean, you plan ahead of time in case game sevens. But game sevens didn't happen. So let's have the finals start tomorrow.
Yeah, you can't move. We know that's not how that works. They never did. The World Series are set. The Super Bowl is set.
The NBA Finals set in Stanley Cup final. Let's not forget. Yeah. Right. It's singular for hockey. Plural for regular for hoops. Yeah. Makes no sense.
How about Larry David's? Seemingly, that's an hour and 40 minutes by car. That was that was with the yellow. That was with orange.
I mean, it's green. I imagine it might be an hour and a half. When is it evergreen on the one on one north body at three a.m. Right. Three a.m.
It's never to go from the Los Angeles area to Montecito, California, by the way, as beautiful a spot as you will find on planet Earth. Yeah. So it makes sense. But who would who would have thought? You know what? At my wedding, Michael Irvin was there. On Susie's side of the aisle because she just saw him randomly, right? Is that the New York?
Yeah. In New York, we got married in Manhattan, Manhattan, and she ran into him on the street and said, are you in town? Because she knew him from Fox Sports. I had never met Michael Irvin before in my entire life. First time I ever met Michael Irvin was on my wedding day.
Wow. That's I never met Michael before. And I didn't even meet him that day. As a matter of fact, I just saw him. And the number of my friends were like, why is Michael Irvin at your wedding?
And I'm like, because he's friends with Susie. And he was she asked, you know, it's a it's a formal affair. Do you have a tuxedo? And he goes, I do. Of course.
I'll be there. And sure enough, he showed up electric blue tuxedo. Oh, yeah. Michael Irvin at my wedding. I can see that Larry David at Josh Allen's wedding. Go figure. Do you think Josh Allen ever knew that was going to happen one day?
No. But Josh and I have something in common. We both married up and fascinating women, even though I've never met Hailee Steinfeld.
I enjoy her work. But Larry David at Josh Allen's wedding, even though it was most likely longer than an hour and a half by car. You think he drove himself?
There's no question. Yeah, I saw him driving on the 405 once. Did you really?
Yeah. He drives himself here. Yeah, it was a year ago. We've never sent a car. And all the times that Larry's come here, we've never sent a car. It was like 7 a.m. and I'm just driving by and I'm like, that's Larry David. I just drove by.
Were those in his Prius days? No, no. OK, very good. Very good. Mike Green coming up. Just stop by Grainger for the ones who get it done.
