Live from the Rich Eisen Show studio in Los Angeles. There's a lot going on with the Steelers. There's continued to wait on Aaron Rodgers. They also have T.J. Watt posting a photo of him giving the peace sign. I would fairly tell you T.J. Watt probably is getting a little sick of waiting on the quarterback question as well. Earlier on the show, Golf Channel analyst, Brandel Chamblee, NFL Network insider, Ian Repoport.

Coming up... This is quarterback, Quinn Ewers. And now, sitting in for Rich, it's Tom Pelissero. Another hour here on a Rich Eisen-less show. I am Tom Pelissero in studio with Chris Brockman, Jason Feller, T.J. Jeperson, and hoping in the final hour of the show on a Friday, we don't unravel like Rory on the back nine, Brockman.

Oh, Tom, you bite your tongue. Rory McIlroy just made eagle on 13 to go to five under on the tournament. Three shots back of Justin Rose, who has completed his round.

One under. Your clubhouse leader, Justin Rose. Bryson DeChambeau is still just one shot back. At seven under, he's on the tee. At the par five 13th, some guy named Matt McCarty.

Never heard of him. He's tied for third at five under today. Along with Sungjae Im, who was on 16. And then there's Rory McIlroy after yesterday's disaster in the last four holes. He's five under today with a chance for birdie on the 14th. Scottie Scheffler just birdied the second hole. His round is underway.

He's also at five under par. Matt McCarty, 27 years old from excuse me, that McCarty. Thank you. 27 years old. Thank you, Tom. From Scottsdale, Arizona.

It's tough to do the voice without breaking. Last tied for 52nd at the Texas Children's Houston Open. So he is currently scared to the bejesus. Your favorite golfer, Rasmus Huygaard with the o-thing, with the line through it.

How do you pronounce that? He's still five under today, four under for the tournament on 17. A lot of autocorrect errors to come and the story is written. The cut line at Augusta currently plus one. Those outside the cut line looking in, defending former champion Charles Swartzl and Jon Rahm. Will Zalatoris is plus two.

2023 US Open champion Wyndham Clark, former Masters winner Mike Weir. Tony Finau, how it be now is plus three. Guys did you see this yesterday? Thank you, Adam. Nick Dunlap yesterday, guys. This is and this is really impressive as a golfer.

Tom, you will understand this. He shot 18 over 90 yesterday without a single three putt. So just terrible little round play. He shot a 90. He had a triple, he had four doubles and seven bogeys.

The only player, he did not beat a single player. Just ahead of him is Angel Cabrera who just spent two and a half years in the pokey and one last week in the champion store. No, no, Bob, I'm being serious. Fred Couples is on the cut line of plus one as is.

Let's see. So how old is Fred Couples now? Fred Couples is 300 years old. I think he's in his sixties. Sounds right. He's two over on his round today.

All right, I'm done. We got Quentin Ewers coming up in a little bit here. Former Texas quarterback, NFL draft prospect interested to talk to him.

Maybe find out why all these guys who won a lot fewer games are all being talked about as top draft prospects. What a college career that Quentin Ewers had. You know, obviously he left high school a semester early. He early enrolled at Ohio State as the number one rated player in the nation. Didn't do anything. Then Justin Fields transferred.

Is that correct? And then he went to Texas and now he's had an up and down career. And then Arch came in kind of a weird spot. No one expected him to go to Texas. Obviously thought Ole Miss, maybe Alabama, Georgia were kind of in the mix for him and then just kind of battled injuries. But when he was out there, I thought he was a highly productive, very good college quarterback. And now everyone's like, well, you're leaving Texas, obviously, because they're trying to say, hey, the future is Arch. I thought maybe he'd go play with Bill, get that NFL experience, maybe, you know, boost the stock a little bit. So he'd be a first round pick next year.

Nope, I'm coming out. And now a lot of, a lot of evaluators have him kind of at the bottom of this class. It's kind of weird, not the bottom, but not being talked about in the same category. The name does not come up among those guys.

Eleven and one as a starter on the road in college, went to the college football playoff twice, one of only two quarterbacks, along with Joe burrow to beat Nick Saban at Alabama. I mean, that's a, that's a resume, but say what you will. They want a ton of games with Quinn Ewers. Who's going to join us in just a, just a little bit here. All right. At this point, Friday tradition, final hour of the show. I want to give you guys the opportunity to ask me anything you want. It's ask Tom anything time because, and this can be sports. This can be NFL. This can be life in general.

Nothing about mailing various undergarments. Please. If we can avoid that.

We made it all the way to our three of the show. If you've got something, kick us off here. Top. I don't cause I was going to talk about mail and draw. I mean, I know.

Go ahead. I don't care. I don't care. Tell me what you think the Cowboys are going to do in the first round. But again, I don't care.

I really don't, but just tell me humor me. Do you need the certificate here? No, no.

Tom goes to the certificate. Yes. First time this week. Not quite yet. Release the fans. I don't know what you're going to say.

You might say something that completely makes me not want to sign. They have historically in the past, several drafts. They've focused on building the, the lines and the offensive line. Obviously they had a really good one for a long time.

They got older on that side. So you bring into Tyler Smith on the other side, you know, Mazzi Smith was a high draft pick for him a couple of years ago. There is something to be said though, for the possibility of draft and a wide receiver, because they've been seeking the compliment to CD lamb. Brandon cooks was the guy that he missed a ton of time last year.

He's now back in new Orleans. You've you've got young guys like Jalen Tolbert who stepped up, but realistically you probably need to add another one. Yeah. I can see them being enamored with either one of the guys with golden or TMAC. I don't know that Ibuka necessarily fits the role.

Like he's, he's more of a slot. I don't know if that's the right fit for what the Cowboys are looking at, but that, that wouldn't surprise me if they go that direction, because I think it's fairly apparent. They need some more firepower here and let's, you know, let's see where we get. I don't know that there's going to be a huge urge for the Cowboys to zoom up and take someone. I know there's been the speculation about what if they trade it for Travis Hunter? Why in the world would anyone move far enough down that the Cowboys get Travis Hunter? They're not giving up a boatload to get the guy.

Rich said that on Monday and he just messed my whole head up with that. It's been close to 30 years since Dion was the closest thing to a two way player in quite some time. I could absolutely see them going. This is, this is ironically, this is the second coming to Dion and not literally the second coming to Dion was son in the draft.

That could be, that could be the one, but it's hard to imagine that that guy's there. It's going to come down to what is the value that the Cowboys think they can get with a pretty high draft pick relative to where those receivers should go. So if Gente's there, do you think, but you don't think, I mean, Gente would be the Cowboys are at 10, 12, 12, excuse me, about October and all the mock traps he was positioned for us. And now Gente, Gente is one of the elite prospects in the entire class. It comes down to the running back value.

I mean, Jameer Gibbs went eight and everybody lost their minds. And now two years later, you're like, yeah, that was about right. Yeah. Well, that was a smart move. Yeah.

Brockman, what do you got? Well, obviously it's going to be, it's going to be Patriot centric. And I'm just wondering, you know, at number four, cause I think we all can presume that Travis Hunter or Abdul Carter is not going to be there at four now. Whereas it seemed like maybe a month or two ago, that was a possibility that one of them was going to fall.

So what are the options? Just lay out the options for new England at four visiting the Patriots on Monday. And I'm sure that came from a product of, Hey, if somebody surprises everybody and takes a quarterback, which I would not rule out the giants doing a three like Abdul, you you've got multiple injuries we need to check out.

You got to come in and do a visit. I know you think you're going top three, but like there are scenarios where unexpected things happen. Abdul Carter is one of the, the absolute top prospects in the entire draft class. If he's off the board, if hypothetically Travis Hunter's off the board, and then we all expect cam ward to be off the board, your options then are Mason Graham, which would be a very Mike Vrabel type of pick. It could be an offensive lineman as well, whether that is will Campbell or maybe Arman bamboo. And then, you know, I don't think that they would go tight end at that spot.

I mean, drives on the tight end at fourth is pretty wild. I wouldn't really foresee that. Yeah. So best guess if they don't get Abdul Carter, they're still looking at going along one of those lines, just knowing the mentality that Mike Vrabel has about the team and where some of those shortcomings were last year.

Yeah. Does it seem like Jalen Walker is a, is a riser in this draft? Jalen Walker is another one that potentially could be there. I mean, he's another one that's kind of in the fringe. Like we talked about with McShea yesterday, where is he in the elite elite with Travis Hunter and Abdul Carter? Maybe not, but he's right there.

I mean, there's a bunch of different directions they could go. There's a bunch of edge guys in this draft. Michael Williams is another one. I think they have Shamar Stewart's taking a visit to Mars, Shamar Stewart, Mike green, James Pierce Jr. These guys are all first round talents, but there's a lot of variability in terms of exactly where they're going to go just because of, you know, different factors, whether it's off the field stuff, whether it is, you know, trying to make the tape square with the workout, you know, with Shamar Stewart, I mean, he's, he might be the most talented guy, just pure physical ability in the entire draft.

Like I interviewed him at the senior bowl. You see an extra, like he looks physically like Judevian Clowney and he tests as good, if not better than Judevian Clowney. Trayvon Walker went number one a couple of years ago based on his workout. And if you compare Trayvon Walker's workout to Shamar Stewart, Stewart's is actually a little bit better. Like it's on par, if not, he has a higher athletic overall makeup than a guy who was one of the biggest freaks we've ever seen.

So, you know, is, but then you go back and, okay, why was he not more productive? And are you going to bet like Jacksonville did on, Hey, we got to go with all the physical tools. We'll get the most out of this physical ability. Or do you do what the lions did in that draft and just sit there and take Aiden Hutchinson who was a really good player who didn't have the athletic traits. And you've ended up with a guy who's been one of the most productive players in the NFL. Those are all some of those moving parts, but in a draft where, I mean, if you just go position by position and I'm looking at it here. Well, I think for me, it's, it's, it's wondering like who is, you hate to, you hate to put this label on it, but who's number four overall worthy. And you look at some of the players who are going to be there after Ward, Hunter and, and Carter, presumably go one, two, three. You're thinking, look, the only one I could conceive of, we make a case for being four overall worthy is, is Mason Graham.

And do you want to go that route? And then now you have a really stout defensive line and defensive unit hitting in the next year. Whereas your biggest question marks and holes that need to be filled are all on offense. And you're just kind of looking at it as a fan, you're kind of scratching your head, like, what are we doing?

And it's about Drake May and it's about protecting him. You already made a huge splash in free agency on the defensive line, bringing in Milton Williams for $26 million a year. But Mason Graham is different. And again, that is one of the safer picks that you can make. I don't know what their draft board looks like. I could ask, I probably wouldn't get a real answer on it, but he certainly is within the realm of possibility there. You have to weigh that out again against do you think we'll Campbell's a guard or a tackle, right? You anticipate play him a tackle, taking a guard at four. It's happened. Wilson went up there.

It's high, but it does not happen very often. And with member can you square again, the physical ability of the guy with, okay, are all the other parts of it, all the other components of this prospect there. And so, I mean, that's, that's really where the draft could turn, but I still, the draft begins at two because the Browns, they could take Travis Hunter, they could take Abdul Carter, or they could shock us and do something else. The giants at three conventional wisdom. Well, most people seem to think is that they take whoever the Browns don't take between Hunter and Carter.

I still, and I've said it over and over, and I'm not saying that I know this is going to happen. I just would not be shocked if they take a quarterback, they have Rosa Wilson, they have Jamis Winston. They're paying those guys like $15 million combined. They put a ton of work on into all the quarterbacks in this draft.

And they were at Colorado repeatedly, like every game they were out there all season. Does that mean it's to do her Sanders at three? I don't know that if it's not to do her Sanders at three, then the weight could be on for a little bit for all the reasons that we've covered, including outside of those top three teams, there's just not that many teams. Do you really foresee taking quarterback in round one saints, maybe the Raiders or the jets? I don't really foresee either one. The Steelers, maybe the Rams and that's it.

And then you're talking about the teams, the top of two, they leapfrog up to the bottom of one. I think Jason has a Raiders question for you. Bring it on.

Yeah. I just want to know how you feel they're going to do overall. Obviously it could be Gente could be Shador, but new coach and quarterback. How do you see the season going?

You're going to have a level of consistency and professionalism because you've got Pete Carroll who knows how to build a culture. You got Geno Smith where you know where the floor is with Geno Smith. You know, you've got Brock Bowers and you got max Crosby.

That's a start, but there are so many other holes for them to fill. Who are their wide receivers? Jacoby Myers. Who's probably going to need a contract adjustment at some point. Who are the rest of the receivers that they bring back?

Hunter Renfro. I mean, there's huge questions at that position, huge questions in the backfield, offensive line wise, you're probably filling several different spots and try to upgrade there. And then defensively, Max has had to do the heavy lifting for a long time.

And you were just an absolutely brutal division. If Pete Carroll, if Pete Carroll can get to nine wins, even if they miss the playoffs, he should be a coach of the year candidate just because of the battle he's got in his own division and how messed up that place has been going back years and for a variety of different circumstances. It's legit coach of the year stuff.

If he can have a winning record in 2025. Sorry. Didn't mean you're up. I I'm a big fan of Roger Goodell hugs when the player gets the name called. I know. I think Brockman, I think you said you were over, but like, I love it.

I think it's just pretty dope. So here's my question. I know you can't give betting advice. I know this, but if you were to guess a number of men that actually lift the commission off the ground when they get their hug, where would you place that now?

I can't keep gambling advice. I realize I'm not asking you to, we don't even have the final list of who is in green Bay. I believe it's around 15 guys that are going to be there. But some of the smaller guys are probably not going to lift the commissioner. Jalen Millrow seems like a lift.

The commissioner type of a personality. Is he going, he's going to be there in the green room. He's he's going to be there. He's going to be there. We'll find out in the first round. We'll find out when Quinn, yours gets drafted as well. First, he's going to join us right after this bit of busy man making visits.

Now popping up here on the rich eyes on the show for Tom Pelosero in for rich three or four. She does a great job with anybody in Scottsdale needs a spot. Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh. Oh, this is a yam, man. I mean, this is, uh, this is the spot.

This is, you got a guest room apparently. Yeah. There's a couple. You're always welcome, man. I appreciate that. Uh, the question I have for you is the fire in the background. Now, did you, does it light up when you draft Isaiah Simmons or, I mean like, yeah, the whole house lit up when we got that tick, we were fired up. Like you, you're like fire up the coals, fire up, you know, that, that, that probably had to happen.

Who took this photo? People want to know. Yeah. You know, you were allowed to have one it guy there. Okay.

So it was one of our it guys that took it and he stayed in the cabana. It did not, did you like the fire or did you like the fire? We're all fascinated. This is fascinating to everybody.

It is fascinating. Um, yeah, I lived the fire. Okay. Go ahead, Chris.

Go ahead. And cliff, did you get in the pool at any point? I did not get the pool.

That's maybe next year. What's the one. Um, I guess the comparison you've heard about the photographs before, I guess we give one what it looks like to people.

What have you heard? The most funniest one I saw was like, it was turned in. They had the browser's logo. That was actually like really, I was going to go cologne. I was going to go cologne, you know, like, you know, the bond.

Yeah. Welcome back to the rich eyes and show radio network. I'm Tom Pellicero sitting at the rich eyes and show desk furnished by Grainger with supplies and solutions for every industry.

Grainger has the right product for you. Call click Grainger.com or just stop by 13 days away from the NFL draft kicking off in Green Bay, Wisconsin. We're going to see a bunch of quarterbacks names called including our guests right now. Quinn Ewers is with us.

Quinn man. You've been busy. Welcome to the show. I'm glad you had time. You've had visits.

You've had workouts. What's what's life like as Quinn Ewers right now? Yeah, it's been, it's been fun. Like you said, it's, it's a little busy at the moment, but man, I only get to do this process once. So try and try to enjoy it, trying to get to know as many people as I can within the league and, you know, just excited, excited to see where we're ultimately I end up, but fired up. Cool, cool, cool point of time.

Cool phase for me. So no, I can't help but, but realize here, this is your debut on the rich eyes and show and happens to come at a time that I'm sitting in the chair and not the guy who went to a school in Michigan that you may have dealt just a crushing, crushing loss to. I have to ask is, is that, is that related? Is this, is this a more than an accident?

Yeah, no, it's definitely, definitely not an accident. I mean, after, after, after we went up there and we, we took care of business a little bit, I feel like, no, he wasn't, he wasn't the biggest fan of me. So, you know, the stars was never aligned, never got on the show, but I'm, I'm glad to be talking to you. I appreciate it.

Appreciate you being here. So I mean, take me through some of these, the visits. I believe you visited the Raiders, the Colts, you worked out for the saints. Like who are, who are some of the people you've met and just kind of your, your impressions of, of getting to explore these different organizations?

Yeah. I mean, like you said, just getting to meet all those different faces and whatnot, you know, guys like Kellen Moore, who, you know, was, it was a good college quarterback over in Boise and, you know, getting to see his whole process and then finally getting to meet him. And, you know, the saints, all the same staff is super cool, good people. And then the Raiders getting to, getting to meet, you know, Pete Carroll and, you know, hear him talk about Stark a little bit. It's awesome.

And then the, the, the guys out there with the Colts were, were super, super, super good guys to talk to. But like, I mean, it's just, it's just such an exciting time for me, you know, cause at the end of the day, this is the reason I picked up the football when, when I was a little kid. So, so to be, to be in the moment now is it's, it's a super special feeling. It's, it's a surreal moment.

It's a real time for me just trying to enjoy it. Really you don't control where you go, right? There's 32 teams. Somebody's going to turn in the car and it's going to have your name on it and you have no choice. You're, you're going to end up there. But I imagine when you're sitting, for instance, sitting across from Pete Carroll, do you start in your mind's eye to envision like, Oh man, like I'm, I'm a Raider quarterback right now. Like do you start to, to, to get that feel and like envision like, all right, this is what it would be like being on that team. Yeah, totally, totally. And you know, coach Carroll is awesome. You know, he just is always talking about compete, compete, compete. You know, that's, that's like, I think he probably says that word a hundred times a day and it's, it'd be super cool to be a part of a program, a part of a franchise that, you know, they live and die by how they compete.

It doesn't matter what you're doing. You know, if you're in the building, he said, you're either competing or you're not, there's no in between. And you know, I feel like that's kind of how I already live.

So it, it definitely would be cool. Now I was doing sort of a blind resume thing with, with Chris Brockman over here before you came on. So there's, there's a quarterback in this draft.

All right. It's 11 11 and one on the road as a starter in his college career, a college football playoff, two times last two years, one of two quarterbacks, along with Joe burrow to beat Nick Saban at Alabama, won the big 12 championship and then went to the sec championship. Is that cam ward Brockman? Who is, who is that? No, I don't think it's cam or I don't think it's, I don't think so. No, we have more on the show. It's Quinn.

You're a guy on paper. You've, you've accomplished things that are very, that are very, very rare Quinn. And yet here we are. And we've talked ad nauseum about cam, about Chidor and about Jackson dart. Just give me your feeling about your status within this quarterback class.

Now, as we, we approach the draft. Yeah, man. I mean, like you said, I feel like I'm a little under looked for sure. You know, just looking back at my resume, you know, when the last 21 out of the 26 games that I played, like you said, going to big 12, winning that game, then first year in the sec, going to the sec championship game, um, you know, back to back years in the college football playoffs. And, um, you know, it was, it was a fun ride and I mean, I couldn't be more excited. And like you said, I feel like I'm the most polished quarterback I've been through the most, uh, coming out of this draft. The most, I just feel like I'm, uh, the resiliency that I've shown in the mental toughness that I've shown is pretty much unmatched from, from kind of what I had to, what I had to deal with and what I've been through.

And I wouldn't trade any of it for, for anything. I think it's getting ready for, for, for the NFL and whatever's to come by way. Um, but yeah, 11 to one on the road only loss was my freshman year against Oklahoma state. Um, so finished out 11 to no on the road. Um, I mean, team was five and seven before I got there, finished 27 to five, my last few years.

Um, you know, it was, it was fun turning that, that program around and, you know, with some help obviously, but it was, it was a lot of fun. You come across as very mild mannered in this, uh, interview setting, Quinn, but I've seen you on the field. I know there's fire there as you're watching this draft play out and you know, who knows how many quarterbacks cam ward and all likely to go on one. We'll see how many quarterbacks ultimately go ahead of you, but is there any part of you that as the draft is rolling out, anytime a quarterback is taken, it'll be just like bleep, you bleep you I'm coming for you. Do you have the anticipate those types of feelings?

Yeah. I mean, at the end of the day, like you said, I, I, I picture myself and I carry myself with a great deal of humility, but at the end of the day, there's, there's definitely a fire in me. And it's like, like anybody else there's like, I'm not going to be the first quarterback taken and that's just the reality of it.

But at the end of the day, it's something that will never be forgotten for sure. There was a game last year and I've wanted to ask you about this. It was Arizona state and late in the game, it looks like you make an audible call for a big play. Do you remember the, the, the play I'm talking about it?

Can you take me through what that scenario and what happened? Yeah. Yeah. I mean, it's fourth and 13, I assume that's the one you're talking about. It's it's fourth and 13. You know, the C the entire season is on the line for us and they go to, so pressure with, you know, both linebackers through the agap and you know, they're also going to bring the safety through the agap.

It's a bliss. We call it AAA Fonzie. And you know, we were rolling and then I, we were motioning, I was motioning in my, my slot receiver. You know, I held them up and I got us into a full man slide to the left and then the tight end of the running back protecting off, off my right side. And then, you know, Matt was on a little double move and I wanted to keep that on and kept it on and then protected myself up, slid a little right. And then we, we kept the season alive.

I mean, that was, it was, it was the one season, it was the entire season of one play. And for, for me kind of be the center point of that, you know, getting us in the right protection, making the right throw, the right throw and for Matt to be able to catch the ball when it boiled down to it. I mean, it's, it's just one of those that it's going to stick with me for a while.

And I feel like it's going to stick with Texas football for a while. You know, that's just, that's just who I am as a player. I'm going to be ready for whatever's thrown my way. So I'll ask you this in the most delicate way possible. Are, were you supposed to audible? Okay. There that fails. Are you in trouble on multiple levels?

No, no. I mean, I got us in the, the, the, the correct call at the end of the day and you know, Sark didn't call a time out. So that just goes to show how much faith he has in me to, to get us into the right call at that moment in time.

And I definitely would not have gotten in trouble and, you know, you won't get in trouble when you make plays like that. So it worked out. Sark obviously, you know, showed, demonstrated tremendous loyalty to you through the process when everyone in the world constantly, every time there's a game or incomplete pass or whatever, everyone's saying arch Manning and play RDE. He stuck with you throughout the process. Just tell me about that relationship between the two of you and how that evolved during your time at Texas.

Yeah. I mean, we, we grew together at the end of the day. We, you know, he's, he was a great head coach for me, a great mentor for me and taught me a lot about the game of football itself and again, really how to play it at a, at a high level and how to play it at the collegiate level.

And, you know, I knew that I wanted to be a part of a program where I was going to be developed to where I'd be ready for the moment that I'm stepping into right now and being ready for the league. But no, he was, he was great to me. He, you know, he, he's a very well, good communicator. So we were always on the same page about things and, you know, super, super excited to have him in my corner. And it was great to get, get to know him. And, you know, I know it's a relationship that's going to last, last a lifetime. So You mentioned earlier the mental toughness that you developed during, during your time there, you also had physical toughness because my understanding that injury you suffered today was an oblique, it was like way worse than people realize.

Can you just describe to me what that injury was and how long it took you to feel like you were fully functional again? Yeah. Yeah. So it actually happened against Michigan later in the game. But I, I, I just wanted, I had to keep playing, you know, I wasn't gonna, I wasn't gonna take myself out and then during the week in practice, it kind of just got progressively worse and worse and worse.

And then against UTSA kind of just popped on me. But I, it was a, it was a slight tear in the 10th Pentecostal rib area, which it means the same thing Derek Carr did this past year. But yeah, man, it was, it was not a comfortable injury, especially being a rotational athlete. But like you said, it just goes to show who I am as a player. You know, my, my physical toughness is just as good as my mental toughness. And you know, in this league, it's just what it takes. You gotta be able to play through injuries and, and play through some, some bumps and bruises.

But yeah, it definitely, definitely stuck around longer than I would have liked, but I'm, I'm feeling great. And I wouldn't have changed playing the game with my teammates, with my guys for anything. It's an interesting time, obviously in college football right now, we were talking earlier in the show, the, the Tennessee starting quarterback, the pronunciation of his last name, which by the way, I've misplaced for the moment.

So I'm not even going to try. Didn't show up for spring practice today as his representative is trying to negotiate a new contract. You, you obviously, if you would decide to play another year, you would have had multimillion dollar offers. I'm curious, number one, why ultimately you decided you want to go to the NFL instead.

And number two, how screwed up is this, the entire system, the way that this thing is set up? Yeah. I mean, for me, I wanted to leave my legacy at Texas. I didn't want to disrupt anything I did at Texas. I wanted to remain like who I was at Texas and in Texas. I mean, I'm sure those fans will come around in a couple of years, but I mean, I just wanted to, to, to leave my legacy there at Texas.

And I didn't want to go anywhere else and disrupt that. But no, it's definitely, definitely crazy, a crazy time for, for college athletics, you know, just the amount of money that's being thrown at these, these guys. And, you know, I, at the end of the day, I'm glad that I got to benefit from these, from these opportunities.

And I know my teammates are just as glad too. So, you know, we're, we're getting, we're getting a little, a little money and learning how to handle it before we get, you know, the bigger money in the, in the NFL, but it definitely is still a little wild, wild west style. So, so take me through now the next 13 days for you. I'm sure a lot of it is just sitting around and wondering what's going to happen. You don't have control over, but do you have any more visits?

Do you have any more workouts? What, what all is going to go into these next couple of weeks? Yeah. I mean, nothing lined up right now. I'm sure I might have a couple of Zooms with some guys here and there, but I mean, just trying to get my body ready for, for a rookie mini camp when that, when that, when that comes up, but at the end of the day, just continuing to throw and get ready for rookie mini camp, continue to work on my body.

But yeah. Where are you going to watch the draft? Where, where, where are you going to take that all in?

Yeah, I'm going to be out. I'm going to be on Lake Bridgeport, Chico, Texas out in a family friend of ours got a, a pretty, a pretty nice spot. And then, you know, he's, he's allowing us to use it. So it's going to be going to be a fun time. Will you sit and watch, will you watch every pick or do you need to like, you know, take some laps or something for a while? Yeah, I'll probably be walking around a little bit, but I can't, I can't, I can't even picture what it's going to be like to be able to get that phone call and, you know, talking to the team that's going to be drafting me. So excited. Well, I'll, I'll make sure that you're, you're aware when any of those quarterbacks do get taking so you can start the bleep you, bleep you, bleep you, two of them are, we're all looking forward to that.

That's the most important part. You're going to get your spot and then you can do the entire, make them all pay for it. So we'll see. We'll see where we all end up at the end of it. So we'll see what happens. Thanks a ton for coming on, man. Best of luck. I hope we can do this again down the line, dude. Yeah.

Thank you guys. Is Quinn Ewers. Won a lot of football games. Sure did.

Yep. Won a lot of games. Tough player, big game player. I'm very curious to see where he ends up. Cause you know, look, as we've said before, you know, 60 plus quarterback start games in the league. Now that's just the way it goes with concussions and injuries and guys sitting out, random spots, he's going to get a chance.

And so you're curious where he gets it and how he'll make the most of it. Well, think about this. We talked earlier about Michael Pennix with Kirk Cousins looking over his shoulder, what it would have been like if Drake may had Joe Milton looking over his shoulder.

Sure. You had arch bleeping Manning looking over your shoulder at the past couple of years, famous college football player. We've had in quite some time before he played a snap while he was going into high school. When he started his first high school game, it was national news.

And I mean, listen, Steve Sarkeesian is not just loyalty thought Quinn Ewers gave him the best chance to win. Let's see. There's all kinds of, you know, highly successful college score or college quarterbacks who end up going day three in the draft. Some of them, you know, the max duggins of the world are out of the league a year later after playing the national title game, you never hear from again, but Quinn Ewers, there's definitely something to them that is going to be really fascinating.

Just watching how that entire thing falls. I've talked to, I'm still making calls and get ready to write my annual 10,000 word with all the scouts and coaches. Yeah. We'll bring up some good quote graphics for you guys, but you know, just in the, in the conversations I've had, I mean, there's a lot of what flavor do you like between Milro, Shuck, Jackson, Dart should door. And then you got that next group, which is Quinn. And I'm sure Quinn believes he should be in that higher group with those guys, but you got Quinn and you've got Kyle McCord and you have will Howard and Dylan Gabriel and that group again, a bunch of guys, we saw will Howard just won the national championship. I mean, we've seen like these guys play at a really high level. Riley Leonard is in that category, but there are different traits that people are looking for and it's going to be a matter of, all right, what do you want?

What's the best system fit? Quinn Ewers Vegas that Pete Carroll meeting, I would just say file that one away. Oh, I would just say, I don't know.

Oh, we don't know. The saints certainly are a possibility. They're right down. Right it down. And then don't check the odds on it.

Cause I can't give gambling advice. I'm just saying Quinn Ewers Raiders to me would make a ton of sense. If after trading for and paying Gino, they don't want to use the number six pick on a quarterback. They're going to need to add somebody to the room.

Could it potentially be Quinn Ewers that would not shock me. We still got a lot more to come in the course of this show. This episode is brought to you by Navy federal credit union. We know just how fast your life moves.

Would you please tell that story? Here's where that comes from. So days confused. Yes. Genius film. I'm in the right bar at the right time. And a guy goes, Hey, you ever done any acting? You might be right. Just right for this part. Legendary cast director and producer, Don Phillips. And I said, yeah, I was in a Miller light commercial for about this long, but you know, maybe I'm, I'm in film school at the time. And he goes, well, come to this address.

You might be just right. Pick up the script. I go down, I pick up the script. There's three scenes with three lines. And one of the lines is Watterson out front of the pool hall. The girls walked by. He checks her out going by and his buddy said, man, you got to cut that out.

You're going to go to jail for that. What is worse and worse and steps forward says, no, man, that's what I love about those high school girls. I get older, but they stay the same age legendary line. I call it a launch pad line. Like you're going to say that unpacking anyone, any character who says that and believes it, we can write a book on that guy. So that was one of the lines. So I go work on those three lines for three weeks. Um, I come back and they do what's called a makeup and wardrobe test, meaning they're shooting another scene one night. I'm just going to show up. Director's going to step off the set and come and look and go, great. I approve. Well, he comes and looks, he goes, geez, this is Watterson.

It's great. He goes, listen, uh, you're not scheduled to work tonight, but we're over here at the top notch drive through. And you think Watterson might want to pick up on the redheaded intellectual and I'm like, sure. And he goes, want to shoot it? I'm like, sure. So I go get in the car. I shoot my first scene ever in a film of your career, of my career. And, um, I had been listened to a lot of seventies rock and roll at that time.

And there was a certain live recording of a Jim Morrison concert in like Amsterdam or somewhere where he barks at the crowd. All right. All right. All right. All right.

Four times real aggressively though. I'm not thinking about that, but this comes back. So I'm in the car and I'm like, who's my man. I'm nervous. I'm about to hear act. Who's my man.

Who's Watterson. I said, well, I'm about my car. And I go, well, I'm in my seventies Chevelle. There's one. I said, I'm about getting high. I said, well, Slater's riding shotgun.

You know, he's got a Dubois rolled up. There's two. I said, and I'm about rock and roll.

And I said, well, I got Nuju stranglehold in the eight track, man. There's three. And I hear action.

And I look up and in my mind I go, and I'm about chicks. I got three out of four. Let's go get the fourth. All right. All right. All right.

That was it. First words I ever said on screen. First words I ever said. And that was the three affirmations of those three things I had when they were, there we go. How many times do you think he's told that story? 306.

I mean, I could listen to it a hundred times without question. Because we all right. All right.

All right. Because he had told us this, we were in New York doing some shows a couple of months before this and we had him on in studio and he told us this exact story off air and we were like, Oh my God, that's incredible. I can't believe like we weren't recording when this happened. And he goes, yeah, next time when I'm out, we'll tell it. And then sure enough, a few years later, there it was. The underrated part of that scene too is he's got the, the other guy riding shotgun, just like the classic stoner dude. He was like, I know you.

We had geography. Remember? Yeah, man.

Slager. Yeah. It's just, there's so many great characters, but you've seen this movie then. I have. Yes.

I'm a little shocked. Did you see this after we recommended it? Did I recommend this? Cause that's something I would recommend to you.

You know, at some point I get a reputation around here in an absolute dungeon for my entire life. That's not true. I have seen most of the comedy films. Okay. Okay.

Okay. Through the nineties and the two thousands. It's the action movies. It's the dramas.

Those are where the holes are and they are substantial holes. Why'd you miss the action? Like I'm so confused. Have you seen Die Hard three? There's a Die Hard three.

Oh God. I only saw Die Hard for the first time, like a year ago. Understand the jets better. How many die hards are there?

There's like five, I think that seems like a lot of one obviously iconic two is fine. It's in, you know, they're in Chicago, right? Dennis Franz is in it.

They're at the airport. Washington. Yeah. Yeah.

Oh yeah. Fred Thompson is in it. The, the, you know, the wait, great Congressman Dennis France three, just go right to three, one to three, Sam Jackson.

Two is fine, but as just as it doesn't have a lot to do with one and has nothing to do with three, one and three are kind of connected. I also saw a major league two before I saw major league. What are we doing? What's wrong with you? I was there with you on that one again. It's like, yeah, I mean that came out. It was cause major league two is PG, which turns out bad idea.

Yeah. Take like one of the filthy comedies. I said, I won't even say one of the filthiest because it's not comedy in the eighties and nineties was extremely filthy relative to what it is today. Major league doesn't major league two with very few of the same characters. Charlie Sheen is still in it, but a lot of the other characters are replaced.

Omar Epps instead of Wesley Snipes. Yeah. And it's PG. That's that's a choice.

Like that was, but again, but that's how I saw it. My parents had a very strict, we're not doing R rated movies thing for a long time. So that's understandable. So until I'm like, you know, it's like 1999 or something and they're like, yeah, you get, I'd get some movies that way, but not nearly enough.

We're mainly playing, you know, PlayStation golf and things like that. But basically anything before the nineties, like I had to go back if it wasn't a comedy and go find it like the movies in college, they're just on repeat. Yeah. Invariably all comedies. And it's like it's the road trip, American pie, slackers, everything in that genre. Like again, to go back to the, uh, to go back to the list of movies I haven't seen, like they're mostly mostly action movies.

So we've got the current list. Never seen the fugitive fear. Oh God, that's going to hurt Brockman soul. Can we watch that on the plane tonight? Like forget sleeping and put these movies on the plane.

If you ain't going to find the fugitive on the plane though, right? I saw Terminator for the first time on the plane while coming out to do this show, not this trip, not this trip. No, we did the entire first block of a show one time about that.

Yeah. I remember, uh, never seen heat or at least I don't remember seeing it. I think I might've watched it like 30 years ago. Didn't see it.

There's a car car. You've never seen it. You ever see out for justice?

I don't even know what that is. Steven Seagal. It was no, I've never seen a Steven Seagal movie. I've been making my way through, um, the various, the various Schwarzenegger movies. That was like job one. So I still haven't finished commando because I started it on like some bad app that then crashed and then it was like, you need to start over and watch all the commercials. I was like, I'm not going to go.

So go had a run where he was doing nothing but three word movies like mark for death, out for justice, hard to kill, you know, under siege, under siege to, uh, still haven't seen jaws. That's the one from my original list. It's not streaming anywhere. You can't stream it for free for free. All right. It's like two 99. I spend so much money on so much dumb stuff, but the idea of paying three 99 for one movie, we just had this. So we were on, I was on spring break with my kids and it was like, all right, trying to set a lot of movie, which they've watched everything on Netflix. They've watched everything on prime video, Disney plus what was it? Sonic the hedgehog three. Those are great.

That was also a pay three 99. And then it was like, what, what like classic movies are they okay to see now? Like eighties or nineties movies. And the two I settled on were back to the future and et rated.

I feel like this problem was friendly. Yeah. But like everything in the eighties and nineties, there's like definite sexual connotations on stuff. And you're just like, this wasn't a PG movie, but you just not yet. Top gun, very semi graphic sex scene. That movie was, was not already. No, that's not for kids. Top gun. Come on, man.

Kelly McGillis saw that for the first time within the past year. Uh, but back to the future was, was also, it was like three 99. And again, like I have no problem. I don't even know what I pay for all these streaming services. I have no clue, but the idea that it's spending the extra $4, I just get on board with it. I'm already paying you, right? I don't go to an all inclusive resort. And then they're like, desserts, $4. I'm not eating dessert. I'm going to be an absolute pig and eat all this.

I I'm sort of with you. I'm not going to pay something extra. If I go to an all inclusive resort, I am not leaving the resort. I don't care if it's the same food every night. I am not going somewhere else. I've already paid for the food.

It's like you pay for a buffet then they want you to pay extra for the hot, the wings or something. Right. Right. Right. Right.

Right. Oh, if you want the buffet, the shrimp that's going to be in the prime rib, $10 additional $10. I don't think the buffet is the biggest racket in all of the restaurant business. I was at a hotel during the league meeting, $38 breakfast, buffet, $38 per person, $30 for breakfast.

I have no idea. I'm like, is there gold in the omelets? What could possibly justify $38? They might actually put truffles in those special bacon. It's probably all business breakfast. And so you're just like, Oh, light that money on fire. I'm looking in and it looks just like the buffet you would get at like a $49 a night hotel where it's like it's got the cheerios. I can get a room with my breakfast. That's $38. It's a good point. Work for a newspaper where the maximum you could spend on a hotel room for a night was $49.

So I know it's possible. It was motel six or bust. And unless you got an exclusive, if you told them you were worried for your safety based on where you were going, they might let you go up to like $59, but it was a hard, fast cutoff.

$49. Was this the green bay gazette? This was not the green bay. This was an earlier and smaller newspaper. Like when was this? This would have been like 2005, oh six in there. You're covering a high school tracks state track meet. So 49 bucks went a slight bit further in like golf. They had a wrestling tournament. Not when you're making 26 grand a year.

I'm saying TV dinners every night. I mean, that was not my first job. First job was eight bucks an hour, 20 hours a week, no benefits. That's how it starts. 26 felt like that was, oh, I remember when I got the bump to 31 when I became editor. It's a big moment. It was a big moment.

What was that? This is my small newspaper in Maine. That sounds about right. Look at you, Tom. You could still be writing Maine black bears stories right now. I'm making 36. You guys are good. You choose to be here. It'd be a great life with me. And I, and I do appreciate that Tom, you're making all that money.
