It looks like each of us has been entrusted with unique gifts, talents, and a reflection of God's glory—but too often, fear, past wounds, or even false humility keep us from living fully into the purpose He designed for us. This week on The Masculine Journey, the guys tackle the powerful topic of hiding your glory and explore why embracing God's calling isn't pride—it's obedience. Drawing from Scripture, personal experiences, and memorable scenes from films like Project Hail Mary and Darkest Hour, the conversation uncovers how the enemy often attacks the very areas where God has gifted us most. More importantly, you'll discover how a community of brothers can help identify, encourage, and call out the unique glory God has placed within each of us. If you've ever questioned your gifts, minimized your impact, or struggled to believe God could use you, this episode offers both encouragement and a challenge: stop hiding what God intended to shine. Your story, your gifts, and your influence matter—and the Kingdom needs what only you can bring. If today's conversation encouraged you, we'd love for you to take the next step. Visit masculinejourney.org to learn more about our boot camps, podcasts, and ministries. Whether you're just beginning your journey or looking to go deeper, there's a place for you. We'd love to have you join us.

This is the Truth Network. The heart of every man craves a great adventure, but life doesn't usually feel that way. Jesus speaks of narrow gates and wide roads, but the masculine journey is filled with many twists and turns.

So how do we keep from losing heart while trying to find the good way when life feels more like a losing battle than something worth dying for? Grab your gear and come on a quest with your band of brothers who will serve as the guides in what we call the masculine journey. The masculine journey starts here, now. Welcome to Masco and Journey. We're glad you're with us today.

And if you don't watch us on video, you just missed Jim dancing or doing something. I'm not really sure what that was. I was twisting and turning. He was twisting and turning. Come on, baby bat.

Yeah. I thought you were having a seizure. I wasn't really sure what's going on there. Yeah. Italian opatado.

Anyway, yeah, welcome to Basco Journey. As always, we pick on each other out of love. But we're going to be talking about an interesting topic today. And so. If uh Darren, you'd just tell us what it's about.

Um It's about noise in the studio. Nothing, just the guy running the stuff. Yeah, I mean, you know, noise in my head. Pay no attention to that man. And pay no attention to the noise in Darren's head.

So, yeah, we're gonna. We're going to be talking about hiding your glory um or living in false humility about your glory. And it it I mean, we'll we'll Enlighten more as we go, but a couple of times in the last few weeks I've had somebody kind of call me out on that. Robby. Um and Uh, another friend, um, that so that's both of them, yeah.

I only have two, yeah, um, so. It just And it wasn't that they were saying, you know, I was being falsely humble or anything like that. It was just that. Um Okay. You know, they said, Hey, look, this this is this is your This is your special sauce.

And you need to be allowing the world to To benefit from that, allow the kingdom to benefit from that. And I, you know, would kind of push back with some sort of humble answer, but and I wasn't trying to be falsely humble at all, I was trying to be careful. And sometimes I guess that can come across as falsely humble. And I will admit, I have been, you know, falsely humble, along with all of the terrible arrogance that I have.

So it's, you know, I'm kind of a betwixt and a between guy. But I've been thinking about that topic a lot. It I love watching like America's Got Talent or, you know, the voice, or things like that.

Now, I don't like the stupid stuff, but man, when somebody gets up there and they say, Yeah, I've never performed in public before, you know, and they get up and they just Blow it out of the water, you know, and Susan Boyle, you know, something like that. And That is just the image of God coming out in those people, right? He gave them that gift, and finally they trusted themselves, they trusted him, maybe they trusted others, maybe I don't know. But they finally decided. to let others see it, right?

And that just really moves me. And I love it. And so. In this show, we're going to play a lot of different clips, a lot of really good clips tonight. And one of the clips I'm going to start with comes from a movie that's on Amazon Prime called The Project Hail Mary.

And it's really a good movie. It's a very clean movie. It's something you could watch with your kids. And It is just it's a really neat story. But it's a story of a guy that is a molecular biologist, and he has.

Kind of taken a lot of heat for some views that he's had in the past. And so now he's this world-famous molecular biologist who's written these amazing white papers, and he's teaching eighth-grade science now and hiding basically from that glory. kind of refusing to step into it. And a lady comes and finds him because she's read this thing and she says, Look, we need your help because there's this disease that the sun has and if we don't figure out why this is happening or how to stop it, the son's gonna die. Earth will die shortly thereafter.

And uh or maybe before. Anyway, um so you're gonna hear him kind of push back and her really just in a very non comedic way, just go, no. And keep pushing on him.

So we'll start there. Knock, knock. Who's there? Not good at jokes. Not good at jokes who.

Doctor Grace. Maybe. I need your help. Me. Did you write this?

Oh. I'm interested in this section here, page 31. A Goldilocks zone is for idiots why everyone is wrong about life. That was a long time ago. Do you stand by what you wrote?

I was fired for standing by what I wrote. You were fired for calling the leading scholar in your field a staggering waste of carbon at the UNESCO conference in Denmark? You you heard about that, huh? Look. I don't know what this is, but uh I think um I'm not sure that's lava.

It's not.

Okay. No one in your field wants anything to do with you because you refuse to back down from their very unpopular view and I can give you a chance to prove them all wrong. Uh, that's uh Kevin, no running. I'm not. Uh jokes on them because I don't even care.

So. I think you do care. You're just running away because you're scared. No, I'm not. Do you still believe water is unnecessary for life to evolve?

Look, there is nothing magical about hydrogen and oxygen. Water is required for life on Earth, sure. But a completely different planet might have completely different conditions. I don't know why that makes me such a nut. I need you to come with us.

Sorry, I didn't catch your name. Dr. Grace, Petrovoline samples splash down last night. I want you to tell me what they are, how they work. I am a teacher at Grover Cleveland Middle.

You have a doctorate in molecular biology. And I ride a bike to work. And uh, it's not for exercise, so I'm sure there are thousands of other people. It's a rise on the surface of the sun. Does it sound like a water-based life form to you?

So here, you know, the classic: he's been wounded because of his glory. Oddly enough, I saw a post by Bear Grylls today on Facebook where he talks similarly about that. And he talks about the better his life has become and the higher he's climbed, the more people try to wound him. And that's true because we have an enemy. And it's not always the people that are doing that.

It's more so the enemy. It's just people often allow themselves to be used by the enemy. But in this case, you've got this guy that's been wounded by his glory. Um or how other people's perceived it or didn't perceive it. But there's this person that says, nope, there's a time, such a time as this is your time right now, to quote the book of Esther.

And so she basically says, No, we need you. We've got to have you. And. And the story goes on from there, and it's just a really, really cool story. But that's what it looks like often is we're scared, we deny it, we, you know, it's not really that much, you know, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.

And then I think Robby has another clip here in a minute of Winston Churchill, which is totally a different take on it. Yeah, we'll do that after the break, probably. But another part of this topic we talked about is both sides of the equation. Right? Calling out other people's glory.

Right? Because God uses us to do that sometimes too, as you said about your two friends. Yeah, yeah. I mean, all of them. That's the reality is God knew that we would hide our glory.

He knew he put it in us, but he also knew we would hide it. And so he surrounds us with a community of people, ideally, a community of people like a church or like a band of brothers, maybe a great family. But he surrounds us with a group of people. And our job as the community of saints is to look at each other and go, oh, I can see Sam's glory, even if he doesn't want to admit it, I can see it, and I'm going to. Try to help God draw it out.

Right. Uh uh A two by four between the eyes. You know, it's not like you're a donkey.

Well, I mean, you are sometimes.

Sometimes you are. But it's more so that, hey, I'm going to try to provide a safe place. Where Whoever that is can experiment with their glory, can fail. even in it, can can try to step out and Things might not go well. They usually don't every time.

And to be able to be able to fail. In grace among friends and live to tell about it is one of the coolest things in the world, I think. I mean, I've always told teenagers: look, God made me for one reason, and that is to be able to make a fool out of myself and live to tell about it.

So you're going to be okay. One of the things that I really love from boot camp is when we do the whole session on the new name. And so people go out and they hear something from God, and God will they never want to believe it, right? They never want to believe that about themselves. And I remember when Caleb first heard his, which was Fisher of Men, and I've talked about it on here.

God's given me opportunities lots of times to remind him. See, you're just living out Who God says you were, right? In this situation, in this situation, in this situation. And I think God puts people in our lives to help us remember. You know, like the the enemy has tried to steal.

Yeah. Right, because you may have clarity for a slight moment. And then everything beats up. And you're like, I don't know that I want clarity anymore. Maybe I didn't have it right.

Right. Well you're dealing with You know, I don't I found this Through some stuff I was studying from John Eldridge this week, actually, in Romans 6:4, it talks about. That Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father. That's the power of what you're dealing with. And it's inside of you.

Is it a surprise it scares us? Scared Moses. Yeah, it's phenomenally. It's powerful. Beautiful.

Yeah, Darren, go ahead. No, and from a biblical standpoint, Moses. Perfect example. David, perfect example at times, different people. I mean, there's a lot in Scripture where people receive the glory of God and God had called them to release it upon the world and the kingdom at large for the good of the kingdom, and they were scared of it.

And Solomon was one too, but he is a great illustration for what Sam said about. wanting to give it all back. You know, I'd This just didn't work. But everybody has it. Yes.

You know, and in your union with Christ. You know, as you draw into that relationship. You know, it It empowers it because apart from it, you can do nothing. And as that happens, like. The Holy Spirit hopefully will help you be able to actually do what you were gifted to do.

And it it's really cool to be around people to see it happen.

Well, thank you, Robby. Go to masculinejourney.org if you want to see what we have coming up. And if you want to get a hold of us, reach out to us on Facebook. What we have at our boot camp is something that makes you stronger and gives you the strength to go on your regular walk with God. It's something that will make you be bigger than you were when you got there.

God's really touched my heart. He's shown me that he loves me. He put his hand on my heart and he says, I love you, Mike. And that's the way my dad used to do it. You know, he used to tap on my heart, give me a squeeze with my hand, and then tell me he loves me.

And I'm wonderfully made. And God loves me the way I am and who I am. And he's going to be there with me. I have the tools now from this boot camp to follow him and conquer the enemy that comes against us every day. God loves us and shows us that here.

Register today at mascularjourney.org. Uh Hallelujah. May we see your kingdom come, Father. May your will be done in all the earth in all the earth you gave to me. to your children and you crow Them, oh God, with glory.

So that's Shane and Shane. Which is which? Both. They have the same problem, oddly enough. We found his two friends.

Both of them are named Shane. It could be one guy. I don't know. They could just go by Shane's. They could go by Shane.

I'm sorry. Anyway, you're talking about. But the that's Psalms 8. I mean it's Psalm 8. And it's right there in Scripture that God is going to crown us with glory.

So I know we probably have listeners that are going, Oh, but you know, I mean you you worried about Because we live in such an arrogant society, right? We live in a society that's full of arrogance and false humility. And just because one exists doesn't mean That the truth doesn't. And the truth is that God. has crowned each and every one of his creatures With his glory.

And so, how you bear that out on the world. is an amazing gift that you get to give to the world. It can be scary.

Well, and as we've talked about before, no two people have the same exact part of God's glory. And so you can't say, oh, well. He can pick up the slack because no one can pick up the slack because you're the only one that uniquely has that glory to show the world. Not out of pressure, because God trusts you and knows that you have what it takes to do it. Don't do it.

Not to mention, we all have our own kingdoms and our spheres of influence, and you've got to bring it to that. I mean, you can't. Expect somebody else to step into that in your world. If his mission is for us is for his kingdom to come, well, part of the way we bring the kingdom everywhere we go. is by taking His glory everywhere we go.

And that's more than The Bible. I mean, it's definitely in there, don't get me wrong. But it's so much more. If you beat somebody up with the Bible, it still feels like you're getting a big Bible, you know, it still hurts. It still hurts.

Yeah. Fortunately, I never got hit with one. Oh, I have. Not physically. Robby, you have the next clip.

Yeah, so really beautiful movie. If you hadn't seen it, is Churchill. And this particular clip is from the early parts of World War II. And, you know, he is. you know, working to politically you know, energize the country.

As well as get a feel for the people. And so very neat. is going to call out He's going to go to the underground. He gets on a subway train amongst the ordinary folks. to kind of let them see their own glory and at the same time encourage him that he's moving in the right direction with what's going on.

But the beauty of it is, again, that they have Every single one of us. has God's glory and every one of us has a sense of what's right and wrong. Mm-hmm. And and when called upon to fight to the death, You know, it's pretty beautiful to see these guys step up, but Churchill does a beautiful way, very warm, friendly, and humorous way of bringing it out.

So go ahead. Joe! This is the underground! Mm. Does anyone have a match?

What are you all staring at? Have you never seen a the Prime Minister write The Underground before? What is your name? Or who will send, sir? And what do you do, Mr.

Wilson? Brick glass, sir. Bricklayer. We shall have great need of bricklayers soon. Our business will be looking up.

Yeah. Progress. Five months ago. It looks like you. Madam, all babies look like me Dimpson Alice Miss Margaret Jerome Jerome Ah, well my mother was at your home.

I I expect we're closely related. Please, please, sir, sit, sit everyone. Uh let me ask you something that's been Weighing on my mind. Perhaps you can provide me with an answer. View.

The British people, the worst came to pass. And and the enemy. were to appear on those those streets above What would you do? Fight. Fight the fascists.

Fight them with anything we can lay our hands on. Broom handles if we must. Straight by straight. They'll never take Piccadilly. Never take Piccadilly in Jeep.

What a it's amazing to see the grace. that he has. right, that every one of those people feels like, wow, The Prime Minister I'm his favorite. Like, I'm closely related to him, or you know, my baby looks just like him, or whatever the situation may be. In other words, here's this amazing grace that is calling out their glory.

Well, the amazing thing about it is, according to John, you know, Jesus has exactly that kind of grace. And then take that time to about 50 to realize that this is, and just like Churchill's validating them.

Well, Jesus is there to validate us. And we talk about this at boot camp that. Satan doesn't care all that much about Robby Dilmore necessarily. What he hates is God. And so that part of me that reflects God.

Really disturbs Satan. And so, what he's looking out across the horizon trying to find God. And when somebody begins to reflect God's glory like that, like what just happened with Churchill, then he's like whack-a-mole. That's when you're going to begin to feel this attack. And so it's amazing from the point that you're born, Satan is very aware of your glory, and he attacks it from the very onset.

Mostly with the people within your own family or your closest friends. That he begins to speak into that and You know, to try to get you to make an agreement that that's a bad thing or that's something that I need to hide. You know, that's part of the beauty of this ministry is to help Jesus to set the captives free because you're set. You're bound by your own glory to some extent because it's probably the most attacked thing in your life. You know, in this very week, you know, I Was Jesus took me to some deep places in Uh where I realized when I was a very small child that I'd seen some evil.

Actually, in a form of a being. And I pointed it out to some people, which I was. became the laughing laughing stock of the family. At my you know, when I was nine years old. And the agreement that I made back then, that I'm sure Satan delighted on, is.

People don't believe you when it comes to spiritual things.

Well, think how You know, if if if You know, God's gifted me to be able to talk about spiritual things, and I really believe He's given me that platform in so many different ways. But you know, here's the idea that, like, oh my gosh. At a young age, I made this agreement That nobody would believe me. in an attempt to get me to hide it, quite effective. Right?

And and and and if you look in your own life, I would be shocked. when you begin to dig around at what actually God gifted you with, that you wouldn't find the attacks right along those lines, which again speaks to your identity and speaks to why you hide it. Because Believe me, it's been attacked your whole life. I think the other part of that, though, is once you believe it, you look for evidence to support that belief.

So if you're sharing your faith with somebody and they don't respond in a way that you think they Not should, but You th you just don't get anything from them. You're like, Oh, they just think I'm crazy. Right, when they may just be processing it, something else may be going on, but the enemy will continue to spend that to try to lock that down even more. One of the things Paul says about himself often is he doesn't care what people think as long as he is telling them the truth about Jesus Christ. And much of our blockage of both Guarding our own glory and not going after the glory of others comes from our fear of.

Being exposed and being attacked and humiliated and Once you get enough of that as we get older, it that becomes less of a problem, but it's always there. When you were talking, Robby, I just kind of thinking back as a father, did I? Call out. The kids go, or did I stifle? Their glory.

You know, and you want to hope that you you help call it out. when you saw it, but I I think of one of my daughters especially, she has always had a spirit of justice. She wants to see the right things done. But when she would stand up for her little brother when he was being punished, I had no. Time to hear it.

And so I often would correct her, saying, You're not the parent, I am. kind of thing, but I I just wonder how often she heard You know, something negative in that response or in that thing. And I can think of other times, fortunately, God's helped me to see to call it out. But man, we're the ones that's supposed to believe in them the most. And we're if we're the ones that that that start that ball rolling, it makes it even harder to get past.

The answer to your question is yes. Did you do both? Of course. My greatest joy is seeing what God did with all my screw-ups with my children who turned out well. Yeah.

Harold, I got a question for you. If if someone had asked you, what's your wife's glory, right? Wouldn't you say something about how she loves on people, right? She makes the bread for them, she does all these things out of service. She's always looking for what she can do for somebody else.

Right. But the most important thing is she loves me. Yeah. Well, that's the hardest thing for sure, yeah. Wait a minute.

You didn't let me finish my song. I never wanted to. There was a comma followed by in spite of me. Oh, there we go.

Okay, yeah, that makes more sense. Yeah. We actually uh Just put them. Think that uh Our marriage is showing God's glory. Because everybody that knows us knows that we've been married for sixty two years.

And that Our world revolves around each other. And I wouldn't have it any other way. Yeah, well thank you. This week, I want you to just spend some time asking God a few questions. Who are you asking me to help call out their glory?

Who do you have in my life right now, and how can I do that? Lead me through that. And am I willing to let others call out your glory in me? Right. And what that might be.

And to help me move past the fear or the things that's always attacked you in the past. But spend some time with him this week and love everybody else well. We'll talk to you next week. Yeah.
