So, what we have here is a three-hour daily show, except on Wednesdays when I kind of refer to it as a four-hour show because we've got the podcast, which airs after the show. And today it's going to be with David Fizdale, so I'm looking forward to that. This program is presented by FanDuel every Monday through Friday, and then on Wednesdays we have our FanDuel segment where James Kelly and I chop it up. The big head's got his own system, and we pick games, and we talk about action and what we like to hit and how we like to get down. And sometimes we get paid, and then sometimes we don't.

But either way, we have engagement, we have fun. It's an absolute blast. When you hear that music, you know there is a big head that's going to be on your screen. Not long thereafter, let's go to the big head, James Kelly. Yo, bro!

Thanks so much for picking me up at the airport a few weeks back, buying me that beer, showing me the town. Good looking out, dude. I'm looking out. Yeah, I just man, my wife just lectured me too. Welcome.

She said my fourth grader has is more mature than I am. She didn't. She didn't really get the John Denver joke and the slinging batter joke. She heard that stuff. I told her about it.

She's like, "Why you laughing?" I said, "They just said John Denver." I said, "You get it?" And the music comes up, even worse. I was going to say, "Why do you let your wife listen to the program or watch it?" And but but she didn't. You told her. You thought that was a good idea.

Well, I think I just told her about the slinging batter. Isn't that funny? She she heard the slinging batter. She didn't understand because she was in the other room cooking. And yeah, John Denver explained cooking, and they're slinging batter.

Oh my god! That's kind of cool, you know. Like I said, they're clones, honey. They're funny, dude. She wasn't making pancakes, right?

No, she wasn't. She made dinner loud. Yeah, he was like, "Oh wow, for once we have something in common." I am cooking. They're slinging batter. You know, like no, no, that's not what they meant.

That's that's not the kind of. She's like, "They weren't cooking. They were cooking something a little bit different." All right, right, head. Before we do what you're here to do, is there anything else you'd like to bring to it to bring us down?

Well, I mean, they covered most of it, but I do think it is fascinating the Swifty dynamic and her husband being a part of the Chiefs organization. I mean, Rasheed, the Be Enemy family, the Reed family, Kareem Hunt, Tyreek, and now Bustin, the Punt God. Which he might have been. I am not sure about that one, but anyways, I think it's a funny dynamic. Like, how do you explain that?

Like, you know, three times a year about what your bosses just did again. Yeah, it's an interesting dynamic. I think, as one clone said, Big Red likes to give people second chances. Oh, he does. I love Andy Reid, but hey, listen.

Let's not absolve the organization of this. This is as powerful as he is. He's not operating in a vacuum, although he's got a lot of power. Like these are organizational decisions too, right? But oh yeah, the Hunt family signs off on this type of thing.

Yeah, oh yeah, you know he is. You know what dynamic is interesting to me? Chat could not have been deader than it was yesterday. There was nothing good happening in chat yesterday because all we were doing was talking about things like I don't know, baseball, football, basketball, hockey, sports. Thank you.

But the second busting tugger is back in the news. Chat popping. My mentions started going off, like, "Hey, you better mention Bustin' Tucker in today's show." I'm like, "I would never do that if it wasn't for you, clowns." Penis mentions started popping off, like Bustin' Tucker. All right, anyway, anyway, can we talk action? Because it's been pretty.

Dude, it is Halloween week, but it does remind me of that one Halloween tree. Remember that one? Because he just played Penis Man. What was that? The hockey announcer.

I did not play penis man. I don't play anything. Alvin is. Alvin did that first of all. Penis butter and cups.

Just absolutely hit the lottery with a bunch of Reese's penis peanut butter cups trick or treating. That's what's on the table tonight. It is bedtime. Oh, see, y'all communicate before you do this. No, he just got that one.

He's he's good at his job. Reese's penis buttercup. No, I I have nothing to do with that. Reese's penis buttercup. I'm not giving that out at Halloween.

We're in that country neighborhood. I don't even know what we're doing. I don't know what we do. If you did that, wearing a Justin Tuck. Never mind.

I'll stop. Never mind. We'll stop. A busting tugger, cost jersey gamer. Reese's penis buttercups.

Reese's penis buttercups. I don't know, James. We may get through an entire segment without picking one game, unless you're ready to move on. Let's move on. Let's be more mature.

Any other drops that that I don't know are coming? That are I'm shot? No way. How did that happen? No, we're good.

Because you and I were on the phone at 6 a.m. talking about it. All right.

So it's been bloody of late. I need some help, man. I need some help. What is this system telling me about what? Where do you want to start?

Let's start in Thursday. Panthers v. Packers here last week. Coach Bang and his Panthers took it in the Tavares. If you feel me, a forty-three to thirteen beat.

Bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, just like that. Stop playing Tavares. But it kind of is with Coach Bang. He took it in Tavares on both sides of the ball. Offense.

Bryce Young looked like the guy everyone thought the organization. Who coach Bang is? What? Dave Canales because he's addicted to banging sex. I call him some other word.

What did I used to call him? But Coach Bang was better because that's the guy's addicted to sex, and then he made a whole thing about, "Oh my God, it's so hard. I'm addicted to sex. Please forgive me. I'm a I'm a changed man." I don't know, dude.

Unlike you, I'm accountable because I don't remember who it was that said they had a sex addiction and that it was ruining their life. Back in the day, I said this on the show. Oh, you have a sex addiction, which is running your life. Really?

So do I. We all do. It's sex. Yeah, and then those that were actually afflicted were like, "Hey man, not cool. You don't know what the hell you're talking about.

Back the hell down, Rome." And I'm like, "Oh, all right. Maybe I don't know what I'm talking about. I can't control my horny level. Down, all right. You don't know what you're talking about.

Ask the coach, Bang. Perfect name for him, though. I mean, Coach Bang. That's what you do. OC Bang, Coach Bang.

I don't know. Caroline, Dave says he knows him. Caroline, Caroline, Dave self colostomized. Man, oh, he does. The Coach Bang.

We've had some really good segments, and this is not one of them. This is not one of them. It's already seven minutes in. We've talked about nothing that matters.

Okay, Carolina's offense. I'll change off Coach Bang. Bryce Young looked like the guy. The everyone thought the organization was going to move on from last week. Two interceptions, sacked five times.

Green Bay's defense first in the NFL in takeaways. Can Bryce get back to who he was? If he can, he can move the ball. The Lions put up 415 yards against these guys, but they turned it over twice. As for Coach Bangs D.

Their back end is decimated by injuries, so that's not a Tavares joke. I was just actually trying to say that. Trying to overcompensate, and they're paying the price for it. 258 yards rushing against Tampa Bay last week.

Now the D line via the Packers O line battle could win this. The Panthers actually have the second best hurry rate in football, and the Packers line—it's one of the worst in football, if not the worst—and they just lost their best. Linemen, so love could torch this secondary if he has time. Key battle, though, red zone. Packers thirtieth on offense, Panthers D twenty eighth on defense.

Obviously, in the red zone. Let's go with Carolina and Ritz Packers Panthers here plus three and a half. I'm taking the points. Wow, really? Game on, Coach.

Dude, here's a number for you for Bang. The Panthers are in a 13-game ATS win streak, coming off a straight-up loss. Um, it's tied for the longest ATS win streak. I'm sorry, Ritz. Yeah, Ritz, straight fire.

Yes, straight fire. Ritz, let's go, Ritz. War on war. Violence. Denzel picks off Cam.

I sent that to Lauren. #HashtagNFL. Let's go, Garrett. Isn't that the most RIT tweet in the history of RIT tweets? I mean, you know, he sat around.

He's like, "Oh, never that one." Yeah, look at that. You know, he sat around like, "Game on." Game on! One hit wonder, my butt. Damn it! Let's go.

I was gonna make the point. Damn right! That's how I roll. That every year there's one or two of those teams where I'll hit, I'll hit, I'll hit, and I'll just keep getting burned. I'm gonna say I hit them last week, and although I probably, yeah, we did hit them last week, didn't we?

Yeah, I hit the Bucks, but yeah, you did not. I did. It was one of mine, and you were on the Panthers. We were on the opposite of that one. I'm so pissed.

Yeah. All right.

So you're gonna lay the points.

Okay. Yep. No. No. No.

I'm taking them. I'm taking them. I'm going Panthers. Exactly. My bad.

You're gonna take the points. Three and a half. And there is a hook there. Hey, one last thing about that. Uh.

Hey, Micah. Micah. Not to get all spicy with you or anything. Anytime, Micah. I know I've got it.

Anytime. Threshold for your recovery and your pain. We can see this guy. I don't know. I think next week is what they're saying, but who knows?

Yeah, maybe. Anytime, Micah. Anytime, Micah. I don't know what's going on with you, dude. Anytime, anytime.

All right, so you are going to take the Panthers plus three and a half. What's next? That's it. Yep. Ravens at Bills.

That's it. Number done. Anyway, have a great weekend. That's it. Ten minutes in, game done.

Are you going to play baseball? Are you going to play tonight's game?

Well, I wasn't going to, but they just named their pitcher. I believe. Rasmussen is going to go for the Rays, so I might go. I might go baseball here. I might go Tampa Bay.

Yeah, take the A's. Might I love? I love. You might or you will. I will.

Let's go. Let's go. Raise tonight on the money. Brewers fan, you're still gonna get it done, but maybe just not tonight. I already went the other way, but but unlike you, you're you're better and smarter than I am.

I did not wait. I just assumed kind of bullpen game. They're burned. They're fried. Yeah, screw it.

Like I, I don't know. I thought the Rays were gonna take it six to seven games here.

So I've been kind of wrong about the World Series.

So we'll see. All right.

So you have no analysis, just that you heard that they're gonna go with Rasmusson.

So you're gonna come on the money. I mean, we could probably break some. Stuff down, but I'm running out of time. Yes, you are. I got more.

I see what you did there. I see what you did there. You know you're on the clock. All right, so we're we're on the opposite side. I'm going to go money line Brewers.

In fact, I already did. Your money line raise tonight. All right, what's next? Ravens at Bills. Number is Buffalo minus three.

Jesse Minner's defense numbers look good, but a deeper dive tells me they played two offenses that are in the top seven in EPA per play. Six Dallas, seventh Cincy. We saw that what Cincy did to him last week. Dallas put up over four hundred yards of offense on them. Jim Dennis Allen, Jim.

Yeah. Now they get the team ranked first in EPA per play in the NFL. In Buffalo, the key. Baltimore is strong against the run without a help. The question is, can James Cook draw some dudes in?

If he can, Josh Allen, Jim should be able to move the football at will. It also looks like he will get DJ Moore back, and that adds another downfield threat for him. Lamar Jackson, Jim, how about Lamar Jackson? Buck Chano Jackson. Let's talk about that guy right there.

He is expected back. He'll want to play against this defense. The Jim, I'm going to say, Leonard Hard, aka Leonard Defense, worst defense in football. Thirty-second in EPA per play, but a deeper dive there. Maybe there is some hope.

They played some good quarterbacks. Only Loverboy Justin Herbert's been asked. Everybody else pretty good. I'm still going with the Bills and minus three here. Yeah, you don't like going against them.

Yeah, you don't go against the Fam more than you go against them. I know. I know, and my number is the same. That one's that one's tough. That one's tough.

And I love Jackson. Yeah, I know you love Jackson, but we don't know about Jackson. And I'm assuming he's going to play. If the system says Bills minus three, I'm going to hit that before that turns into.

Well, I mean, I would say I want to hit it before it turns into a hook. But as soon as we know for sure about Lamar Jackson, maybe get a half point on the other way, maybe. You might. I feel they think he's playing for sure, without a doubt. But you might.

Yeah. Fair enough. Yeah. Fair enough. Yeah.

So, but then again, if we're talking about them and it's three, then on neutral field, that's a coin flip game. Anyway, I'm with you. Bills. I'll lay the points minus three. Let's do it.

Beautiful. All right.

Bengals v. Titans here. Biggest spread of the week, ten and a half. There's a hook on this. I do not like that.

But I can't remember being more pissed. You know it. I kept texting you last week at halftime of the Cincy game. Be Baltimore. I was done with them.

Blanzak Taylor. Let me correct you. I can't remember you ever not being pissed about something.

So what do you mean more? Dude, I was so pissed off. Just because your hero had run for forty-seven yards in the first half. Yes, and Al Golden's defense was garbage. I was done with the 2026 Super Bowl season.

It was all done. They needed to clean house. Is Golden officially on the list, dude? Or do you still talking? I told you last week at halftime he'll never come off the list.

But then thirty-five straight points, and guess what? No, no, you said he's back to trending. You said Dennis Allen was going to come off the list. Oh no, and then and then you said, oh no, he's never off the list now. He's never off the list now.

Dennis is not off the list. Never, ever. Yeah. All right.

So, is Al technically quote trending ass, or is he on the list? Dude, it's if he goes Al this week against Cam. This is like one of the games that can absolutely even make you more mad, right? He's got Cam freaking Ward, dude. Cam Ward this week.

If they're like half as good as they were last week, he should still be on that guy. He has. We keep in the book right now. We have the best game of his season. If they win by seven, is he on the list?

Yeah, he's on the list. They won by seven. Yes. In other words, he he's got to cover. He has to win.

He has to cover. This guy had the best game of his season. No touchdowns. One interception. And one hundred and eighty-one yards passing.

Al Golden has to beat these guys by more than ten and a half points, or he's back on the list, without a doubt.

Okay. Yeah. Fair enough. Yeah. We're going Cincinnati minus ten and a half.

Went to hook minus ten and a half. You know what? I'll do the same thing. I wonder if the Titans could trade Tony Pollard before then, dude. I kind of hope because he's their only chance.

Then we'll be fourteen, though. Yeah, nah. I probably would move up quite a bit. All right, what else we got? Chiefs v Broncos.

Casey is favored in Denver by a point and a half right now. The first time they played each other, Week One, Broncos missed twenty-eight tackles that game. They lost thirty-one to ten. They were horrible in all phases. Home dogs, man.

Home dogs, yeah. But the defense since then has played really, really baby Jessica well. As the world knows, Bo Nix has not.

Now he did play better last week against Arizona's defense, but it did take a while. I think the key for Denver here is Jonah Coleman, running back for Denver. He's good, and if he could be just himself, and if he gets the carries, if Sean gives him the ball, if he can get that Denver running. Running game, the average. They might have something in Denver right now, and there's more excuses for Bo Nix.

The worry for Denver, Waddle injury, not a smart move by Sean. Actually, was really stupid. What's the update on that? Do we have one, dude? I don't know if he's going to play, and that's what's worrying the hell out of me.

But the good part, Bo really hasn't used him, so what does it really matter, right?

Well, he did on that play. You did on that play for like a minus four yards. Not good, all Sean. Lose your head, dude. Anyways, for Pat, he should be getting some help back.

Maybe an offensive tackle, and maybe Rasheed Rice is getting help. Bustin Tugger has arrived. Bustin Tugger has a lot. Uh. Anyways, yeah.

You're you're welcome, clones. Yeah. Bustin Tugger. And but the Broncos keep on keep going. I'm gonna say the Broncos might get some dudes back.

Sertain, Sertain, he might be one of them.

So it should neutralize all that. I'm going Denver, plus one and a half. Get this number for Patrick Mahomes. Since 2024, Kermit is 0 and nine ATS in November. What?

So I'm going Denver. Yeah. What? Yeah, I'm here. Repeat that.

Repeat that one more time. I'm here. In November, since 2024, so that'd be one, two, last two seasons, 0 and nine ATS for Kermit. Wow. Yeah, that's something.

Denver. Yeah, going Denver.

So Denver, and you're gonna take a point and a half. Taking point and a half. Yep. All right, head.

Some interesting picks. I trust you're done. I got one more.

Okay. Let's play a game here, Jim. Yeah, Seahawks v Bears. Let's play a game. Clones.

One of these two defenses is allowing an NFL fewest four yards per play. The other an NFL worst six point three yards per play. They are giving up. Which one is? Do you know Michael McDonald's D?

And which one do you think Dennis Allen's defense is? Jim, that's a hard one. Let me think. That's a hard one. Let me think.

Let me think. Which defense is allowing? Six point three yards per play. Yeah, Dennis Allen, Jim. That's it, right there.

I knew it. Let's start with a good one, though. What do I win? That was hard, man. Uh, the good defense here.

This is actually a fascinating matchup. Them vs. Bears offense. Here is the actual list. Yeah, we're gonna move Dennis up.

Yeah, no. I love that Bob Sutton just has the goat next to him. Still, like we haven't talked about Sutton in years, dude. How long you get to carry that around? I don't know, but for a long time, he cost me a lot of money.

He cost me like forty five hundred dollars once. The goat of ass, yeah. Didn't he cost you like four grand actually? Oh yeah, you know he did. Absolutely did.

Him and Frank Clark, another guy Kansas City brought in. I know, dude. It was posted. It was pinned to your Twitter feed when Twitter was still Twitter for a long time. It probably still is there, bro.

We get it. All right, we. It's a bad bet. Bad beat. We get it.

Okay. The the fascinating thing here for Seattle against this Bears offense, Seattle's defense, right? KC couldn't run the football against these guys. They got work. Chicago is the best running attack in football.

Will the Bears force Seattle into moving more people in the box? If so, Caleb will have the matchup in the passing game. As for Dennis's, the screen passes in the half, they suck ass at. They actually suck ass at everything.

So almost anything will work. No, they don't. This will come down. They're good at taking the ball away. You know that they are good at that.

That's what this is going to come down.

So they don't suck at everything.

Okay. If Dennis goes Dennis or Sam goes Sam, Sam was great last week, but back to back great Sam really isn't a thing. He's thrown an interception in every game this season. He's finished, but his line it did look better last week against Kansas City, and it's meat season in Seattle and adding Big Quinton, yeah, and Charbonnet, kind of like that too.

So I'm going to go Seahawks minus three on Monday night. I think Big Q changes everything. Everything on that line, man. Everything. They they need to run the football.

They know that starting with that, the guy starting with that, they will be able to run right now as long as he's out there. And I think in pass pro, he's going to help too. And I think he's going to help. Look, if they can run, and he can even help in pass pro, how different is my man Sam Donald? Way different.

So way different too, Jim. And I know everybody's on him about Kenneth Walker the third, rightfully so. But last year, Charbonnet was on his level for the you know for most of the season. He was really really good. And now they're going to get him back, so they might be able to turn this thing around in Seattle.

I've got a feeling you're right. I think that I would not, I would not sell Zach Charbonnet. I think that I would not give up on him yet. And hey, Kenneth had his chance to make his statement in his revenge game. He's still having a great year, but when they needed him in that revenge game, they locked him up.

They shut him. They locked him up, and not with a fat box too. Right. All right, head.

Twenty minutes of you is like. Eighteen too many, but you did it somehow. You did it. All right, dude. I gotta get some candy.

So go get some candy, man. Yeah. What are you giving away this year? Reese's penis butter cups. Those things.

I figured. All right.

See you, dude. Thank you. Later. Thank you very little. Thank you for buying.

If we can cut through all that, at least make some money. That'd be fine. All right.

There is your Fanduel segment. I hope my friends there did not hear it. Fanduel. They present the show every single day, and they present that segment with James Kelly. You know, if you if you can cut through all of the nonsense that he spews, and you listen to the good stuff that he has, because there is good stuff right there.

You can get down, you can get paid, you can get rewarded. It is worth it. He and I do not agree on everything, but I got to be honest. The things that we do not agree upon, he is usually right more than I am. But I can't go with the system.

The system. Every single time, got to play a hunch once in a while. When we come back, probably a shorter segment, but Jake Dickert will be joining me at forty past. Speaking of my pals at FanDuel, welcome to your most rewarding season ever, only on FanDuel. How rewarding are we talking?

More rewarding than a half-court buzzer beater. More rewarding than a twenty-nine-point comeback. Maybe even more rewarding than a center knocking down a three. I mean, everybody loves it when the big man lets it fly.

So this NBA season, that feeling does not stop on the court. Look out for FanDuel Rewards Club. I'm talking exclusive offers, surprises, and more.

So every week, check out that FanDuel app to see what's waiting for you. More rewarding than a game saving chase down block. Yeah, all right, that one's close. Make this though your most rewarding season ever with FanDuel. Download the app or visit FanDuel.com/rome to get started.

Like this guy did. Let's go to Kansas City, JJ in Kansas City, JJ. What's going on, Roomy, my homie? For the love of God, Jim! Why didn't the Chiefs, my Chiefs, go with the thicker kicker?

Harrison Davis, he was right there. The dude had no zoo roots. Brendan Jips are just as bad, if not as worse. And Harrison Fucker, but no, let's go with this senior citizen of a kicker, Austin Tugger, old thirty-six year old with more salt and pepper on him than an Olive Garden next to an ancient asaurus spa. My only rationale, Jim, is.

Boston Tugger is going to be cheaper and save some cap room for some wide receivers that we desperately need. Chat do your worst, you know. If Kansas City gets another Super Bowl ring and Boston Tugger never sees an active roster, this whole argument is moot. War fading the big head this weekend. Kansas City to beat Timber again because on War the big head.

In bad jungle caramel, and not picking this boss up for a beer, I'm out. All right, JJ. Like I said, if you don't like what you hear from that big head, go ahead and fade him. Because if you fade him and you get over, it's going to feel good, right? And you can talk a lot of junk.

But you're not wrong about a wide receiver. They need wide receiver help so badly. I'm not saying they don't need kicker help. Butler all of a sudden is not reliable or somebody you can count on. I don't think you want Beavis.

What a choice! Can you imagine? Butker, Beavis, or Bustin? Butker, Beavis, or Bustin? How's that for a choice of kickers?

I don't know. The reports were Buston went thirty for thirty in his tryout. I don't know that Beavis would have done that. In fact, I know he would not have. But again, Butker, Beavis, and Buston—damn, those are some options.

Hey, fade the big head. Go ahead and do it. Fade him. Talk some junk, or get down with us and celebrate with us. Just whatever you do, do not wager what you can't afford to lose.

And we just do it for community. Man, it's fun. You talk some junk. You commiserate with us. You talk junk.

If you get over on us, it's a lot of fun as long as you don't get in beyond what you can afford. Keep that in mind. Let's go to Robert in Tampa. All right, now this guy called up prior to Game Three and said, "I'll be there." I'll be. He gave a full breakdown, and it was great.

And said, "I'm calling you after the game." And then they got lit up, blown out. One of the biggest embarrassments ever. And he was nowhere to be found. But but he's back, Robert. What's going on, dude?

Jim, Jim, I know what all the clones are thinking. I am only going to call after the big wins, right? That's not really true. Yesterday, my priority was watching the World Series, not talking about it.

So I got an eight-hour workday in, and four hours busted my ass across that bridge and waltzed into Game Four, only to be surrounded by cheese-guzzling, rotworm-smelling. Mustard stain, Gruber stains all around me. To the right, to the left, up and down. And I got to tell you, I am going to compare it, and I think it's appropriate today. It's Hump Day.

We're talking about Justin Tugger. I'm going to compare it to what we call the porn industry as cuckholding. That means when you invite a stranger into your house, into your bedroom, to wrestle with your wife or girlfriend. No, dude. No, actually, not going to talk about.

You don't like that. I don't like that. I understand that Bustin Tugger may have opened up the floodgates for some of you, but don't do. I'm going to talk about something we we talk about in the porn industry, bro. I think.

Damn, dude, you got awfully comfortable. First of all, you start the call with a lie. You say, "I know the clones think that I only come in after big wins," but that's not true. Yes, it is. And then you're going to go from the trop.

Directly to Chatsworth, and then you're going to start educating us on certain popular phrases that are thrown around in the quote porn industry. For instance, bro, I think that we all know that phrase, and I think we know what that phrase means. And I don't think we need you to come in here and educate us on certain phrases that are known in the porn industry. In fact, why don't we just make that a rule? If there's a popular, well-worn phrase in the porn industry, you don't need to use it to make your point.

Much less educate us on what it is. Like, oh, okay, everybody, stand back. I'm going to hold court here and educate you on something that we all know in the porn industry. But what do you mean we in the porn industry? Are you in the porn industry?

That's how you made it sound, Robert. A phrase that we use in the porn industry. I think that's how you phrased it. That we use now. You are done, God man.

Now I am done. Jake Dickert.

Now he's done. Jake Dickert.

When we come back, damn Robert, that what's the matter with you? Wake Forest head football coach Jake Dickert joins us next. You're listening to the Jim Rome Show. O'Reilly Auto Parts is a huge part of the program and of this pod. They're in the business of keeping your car on the road.

Can we get this train back on tracks, please? On the tracks. Yes, we can. That's my job. All right, as promised, we are joined right now by the head football coach at Wake Forest.

He is in his second season there. He was head coach at Washington State for four years prior to that. Last year, the Demon Deacons went nine and four. They won their bowl game. This year, they are six and one, four and one in the ACC.

They are ranked number fourteen in this week's AP poll, and they host Virginia on Saturday. We are joined right now by Wake Forest head coach Jake Dicker. Jake, you are. Absolutely killing it!

So I had to bring you back. How you doing, Jake? How are things? It's great to be on the best sports program in the country, Jim. And I know this things must be going well.

We're back on Built in the Dark is working and excited to be here. Oh man, Built in the Dark is working. First things first, and thanks for making time for it. How is my dude Jeff Dicker doing? How is Pops?

I'll tell you what, Jim. I don't know if you caught it, but we go on the road and beat a ranked Louisville team. They're interviewing me on ESPN after the game, and he catches some much articulated FaceTime in the background.

So he's just doing as well as ever. He's making all the games, just enjoying it. Retirement's been great, and the Brewers are in the World Series, so it can't get much better. Yeah, you beat me to that. I was asking about that really quickly, though.

How old were you the first time you remember him telling you that everything you want in life is on the other side of? That everything as good is on the other side of hard. I would go back, Jim, to as early as fifth grade. I mean, he coached us in Pop Warner growing up, and you know there was one time we won a a second place trophy, and he was like, "Give me that!" Like we don't celebrate second place. You know, he's actually like, "You let the team down today." You know, he taught me some good lessons as we went through it.

But he he knows, you know, just kind of how special that was growing up, and I've got a great perspective now on him being tough on me and why we ended up this way. It's it's great. I love. Pops Jake Dicker joining us.

So Jake, you're coming off a buy on Saturday, so I'm really curious how you approached that week. Did you continue to lean on the players so they don't lose their edge, or did you do the opposite and give them a chance to rest, recover mentally and physically because they did play seven straight games? Yeah, I think it's a little different this year. It's back to being a one-by-week, so going through seven straight. I just think not enough people talk about the mental strain.

Our guys prepare at a really elite level. We demand a lot out of them. You know, at Wake Forest academically, you know these guys are in all the classes.

So you know, we took you know four days off. We had some light practices Thursday, Friday, gave them the weekend to get back home and get ready for the final stretch.

So our team has put ourselves in a position to control the destiny.

So One game at a time, getting back to it and getting the team freshened up, I thought was the main priority. Wake Forest head coach Jake Dickert joining us. Jake, what about from a coaching standpoint? Did you yourself and your staff use that time to self-scout what the team has done, and if so, what do you like best about what you've seen so far, and then what are you looking to clean up? Yeah, tremendous amount of self-scout.

I think you get to this point in the season, you know, all teams, even though you're having success, have to take a really critical eye. Like we didn't watch the tape, patting ourselves on the back, saying, "Look what we've done so far." I would say this, you know, we got to clean up the penalties. It's the number one thing, you know, across the board. When you get against really good teams and big moments, you know, it's hard to get out of second and fifteen. It's hard to have false starts at the one yard line going in this year, which we have three of, and just.

Being a little bit more disciplined in our defensive communication, so you know we worked at it, we repped at it. Our team is very veteran, so when we give them something really targeted, our players do a really good job of going out there and saying, "Let's get this stuff corrected." Then I think as coaches. You know, I got a chance to watch my boys play. You know, youth football. We got you know family pumpkin carving this weekend.

I think it's good to every once in a while take a step back, be dad for a little bit. Because, as you know, Jim, in college football, these next five, and then obviously player retention, portal. There's a lot of things that come on the back half of the season. No doubt, Jake Dickert joining us.

So, Jake, do you coach your kids? Is hard? Is pops coached you? Take a little different perspective. I know this.

I love watching it. My wife, to be honest with you, you know, she keeps these guys rolling pretty good. I'm just all about effort. Like if you're not out there playing hard and giving effort, you know, then we got a problem. Other than that, I just try to be dad and enjoy it.

There has been a couple moments though, Jim. You know, I got to come down from the stands and have maybe a private conversation. But at the end, I always start with something they did well before we get into what we need to do to get better. It's so interesting, right? I can remember when my kids played baseball.

Jake and my wife would say, "Dad, don't talk to him. Don't talk." I'm like, "Listen, can I talk to my kid? Can I talk to my son? Don't worry, don't worry, don't worry. I do have some things that would like some observations I would like to share, but it was just so funny.

I don't know how you negotiate that dynamic in your family, but my wife Janet was always like, "Don't break the kid down." I'm like, "Why would I do that? Why would I do that? I would never do that. I love it. I love our kids." However, I do have a.

Or two, right? Yeah, you have to, and I think at the end of the day, she reminds me often be dad, not coach. And I tell her you need a blend, you know, because just like I learned, you learn a lot about yourself, you know, kind of getting pushed and challenged.

Well, I was really proud of the boys. One one forty two to zero, and one one in overtime on a on a big catch and touchdown.

So it was a good day in the Dicker household. Good, glad to hear it, Jake.

So when you and I spoke in August, you talked about your high expectations for Geo Lopez, your quarterback. This dude's been incredible. Twenty-three touchdowns overall. He's only turned it over once. What do you like best about Gio right now?

His decision making and ball security, or his mobility and his playmaking ability?

Well, I would say this, Jim. It's his competitive character. Every situation we put this guy in, he delivers. And I get to see him, you know, obviously behind the scenes and his elite preparation. But this all started back in January, and I told you that in August, he came in, he commanded the team, he took ownership of last season that didn't go as well as he wanted to, and he learned from it.

And it also a good lesson, Jim, about in this portal era, fit matters. Who you're with matters, right? The program, the scheme, like he's thriving in doing things that we knew he could do at an elite level. And man, you know, I believe he's one of the top ten players in the country, and he's played that way through the first seven weeks. But he's not satisfied.

He's extremely humble, and man, is he a pleasure to be around each and every day. Man, it's got to be right. He's been absolutely awesome, Jake. I'm curious, it's been a minute, if ever, that somebody has said that Wake Forest has a target on its back, and that now you're going. Every single week, and now you are the look.

I know you will tell me you're hunting, but you are certainly being hunted right now. Do you go into every single week feeling like that, and that you're going to get everybody's best shot? Is this something you talk to your team about? Yeah, I think I'm a. Big fan of just open communication and being honest.

A about the distractions. You know, we have the most scouted roster in the country. Period. These guys are fielding calls and how to prioritize your time. And we always talking about keeping your circle tight.

No leaks, no cracks. We're in this thing together in a special moment with a special team, and we can't let our distraction. You know, get the best of us.

So I think our guys are doing a good job of that on a daily basis. It starts with me. And how we emulate, like what we demand out of each other, and just making sure we're being honest.

So I know the one thing is when when we don't do it right, man, we get after our guys, and they respond each and every time.

So it's been good. But I'll tell you what, Jim, we got to play from an aggressive state of mind. I've seen teams get to this point, maybe arenas they're not used to, and get on their heels and play conservative. We're not going to do that. We're going to stay aggressive.

We're going to push the ball, and we're going to make people beat us on our terms. Period. So I'm excited about this weekend and getting back out there. I like it. Speaking of this weekend, Virginia is cooled off after a strong start, Jake.

But you know, Tony Elliott is going to have his team ready to play on Saturday. What stands out to you about the four and four Cavaliers from what you've been watching on tape?

Well, they play a different style of ball. I mean, any time you know you're in the top twenty in the country in defense, you're elite at ball control. You're going to be in every football game, which they have been.

So we got to counter that with you know playing at a little bit of tempo, making sure they're trying to guard us, making them defend fifty-three and a third, then taking advantage of our opportunities with our skill players down the field.

So well coached team, they're not going to beat themselves. Excited to get back at home and see this type of environment. Because you know Winston Salem has been waiting for a team like this, you know, to be back in the top fifteen in the country after not being there for a few years. I mean, just the excitement around our university and campus is at an all time high, and you know our program's never been in better shape.

So, to that point, Jake. For instance, this is who you are, and this is what you do, and you're a star in this business. But has this thing flipped even faster than you thought that it would? It's interesting when you really look at the last ten years of Wake Forest football. Besides the collective era of twenty two, twenty three, like we've been a top, you know, five ACC football program.

Not many people know that the facilities match that, and the biggest thing that we brought in is just kind of a new energy, Jim. Like our players love being here; they love how we treat them, they love how we coach them tough. They crave feedback, and our competitive spirit, atmosphere around this team, culture. I think is really at an elite level, so we brought that here. Our players loved it; they're like sponges, and we've made some really good personnel decisions.

And at the end of the day, I think our coaches are elite. You know, my number one job is get the right people in the right chairs at the right time and let them do their jobs. And I think that's why our program is ahead of schedule right now.

So quickly, Jake, I talked to Scott Frost yesterday, and he's getting ready for Baylor. And Dave Oranda was just fired, and both those schools are four and three, and then. You witness NC State fire Dave Dorn in the middle of his 14th season. Man, the business is so gnarly; it is so tough. The flip side is when you have guys who are crushing it, they're being aggressively pursued.

We're seeing it here in LA with Bob Chesney. My question, Jake: What do you tell nervous Wake Forest fans who have to be thinking, "Man, our guy's phone is ringing too." Yeah, this is the new college football that we've all accepted and created, Jim. You know, I I like to use my example as the same example as all the players, and it's what you prioritize, it's what you focus on. I signed a new contract eleven months ago, but I want to do it here with our team, with our coaches, with our people, the people that know what we need. Those are the conversations that I've been in depth with here, and at the end of the day, Jim, we can bring back seventeen of twenty.

Starters on this football team next season. That's my priority. We've never been, you know, in better shape in a football program.

So excited about the future being here.

So all Demon Deacons should be excited to do it with us. Love it. Love the program. Love what you're doing there, Jake. Dickert joining us has always been very, very good to the program as well as Pop.

So you tell Jeff, I said what's up. Always good to see you, Jake.

Sorry to come back to you so soon, but like I said, you were killing it.

So I had to get some of that energy. It's good to see you, Jake. Thanks so much. Anytime, I'm always available. Let's the Brewers are going to shut the door tonight, Jim.

Let's go get this thing done. I think you're right. I think you're right. I think so. All right, Jake.

Good to see you, man. Great talking to you, brother. Jake Dicker is a star. He he's a coach's coach. I'm telling you, man.

Those who know know that is a great bleeping coach. And he's going for the Brewers to shut the door tonight. I've got them too. Big heads going the other way, but I'm taking Milwaukee to shut the door tonight. I mentioned his dad.

His dad was an administrator, school, academic, coach, all the above. Coached his son hard, but a big jungle guy, Jeff.

So I was like, shout now, pops. All right.

When we come back, hour number three, I want to talk about the Cavaliers. We haven't talked about them in a minute. Have they choked away another lead since I last spoken about, or since I last talked about them? No, but Kenny Atkinson apparently has got the fix finally, and I want to talk about all the early season injuries in the NBA. Those topics coming up next.
