At Edward Jones, we believe rich means opening yourself to new possibilities. That's why your dedicated financial advisor meets you where you are, helping you move forward with confidence. Let's find your rich. Edward Jones, member SIPC. Man, that first hour was nice, smooth, and easy, just the way I like it.
Welcome back. Good afternoon. I'm Jim Rome, and this show is presented by FanDuel. Not only presented by FanDuel, but as I mentioned, our FanDuel segment, which we do once a week, which is a great segment with James Kelly, was airing on Thursdays, but we're moving that back to Wednesday, a day early.
So, what we're going to do is do that segment right now. Meantime, telephone number is toll free one eight zero zero six three. Eight six eight six eight six. My thanks to Kevin Kiermeier, MLB Network analyst and a former MLB outfielder. Love that guy showing up from Wisconsin in the trees, bow fishing.
Now, I get to the big head, and the big head has a system. Believes in his system so much so that in years past, what we would do is pick four, five, six games, and we still do that on the air, but head. Has been betting every NFL game every Sunday, and going nuts in the college ranks with crazy parlays that aren't hitting, but crazy parlays. I've never seen my dude all over it. Oh, head!
And by the way, let me bring you in. Good to see you, bro. Thank you so much for meeting Janno and I at the airport in Denver, gnarly airport. Last week on Parents Weekend and taking us out for that long-awaited beer, dude. Good looking out.
Thank you very much, dude. We had a great time, didn't we? We had a really good time. No, we didn't. We didn't do it.
The hell were you doing? You can't find me at the airport for one beer after all I've done for you.
Well, I was going to go up to Boulder, and then you were stuck at the airport, so then it just didn't work out. And I'm like, okay, you know, I mean, things happened at the airport. Oh, I just made that part up, didn't I? Yes, you did. You did, okay.
But well, I wanted to get there Saturday. A long way from Boulder. How far are you? Five minutes.
Well, yeah, not that far at all. It's just right up Highway 93, so it's really not that far. But I did help somebody move, which I wasn't happy about that. But you know. You could have gotten out of that by saying, "I've got to go see my boss next time." Did you say?
Did you say next time? If there is next time, I am going to be pissed because next time would suggest that Logan did not get out of college on time, so there is not going to be a next time.
Well, you gotta be out here for graduation. May's a lot nicer out here, so I'll make it good. I'll be there in May. I'll be there in May. Last chance for you, head.
Last chance for you. All right, bro.
So, when did this start? When did you decide all of a sudden five, six games were not enough? I am gonna bet every single game, every single Sunday, and lose my mind on Saturday. How did you decide to step it up like that?
So for like four or five years, I monitor like three or four different kind of systems, and I know clones. My best bets that you're getting lately—they're absolute ass. But I have three or four systems, so I'm like, I'm gonna track every single bet all year long. Did you develop it, or did you rip from somebody else? I developed them.
I've developed them. I've got two or three different ones. You got to use numbers. You got to use football power indexes. You got to use.
Home field advantages. You got to use some of the stuff I learned from Billy Walters' book.
So I combine like three or four of these different things. You love Billy, dude. You love that's your guy. I have so many. I have so many questions for him because he was very vague in some things.
In his book, clearly.
So I have so I have so many questions. He'd come on in. He's been on. He'd come on. Yeah.
All right.
Okay. I got some questions. All right.
So why don't we jump into this? It's Wednesday. I know you like to wait as long as you possibly can. It's a little bit different for you, but we got to do it when we got to do it, and we're doing it on Wednesday.
So where do you want to start? Pats v Bears here. The top two quarterbacks from the twenty twenty four NFL draft class, not JJ and Bo Nix, but Caleb B Drake. Don't look now, but Drake is playing a lot better. Last three games, ten touchdowns, one interception.
Now is fourth in QBR for the entire season in the NFL. Yes, the quality of defenses lately haven't been elite. That's fair, but here he has Dennis Allen's D Jim since this rank tweet. Our friend Adam Rank putting it out there. Yeah, that one right there.
The Bears' defense has allowed 28 points in the last three games. Yeah, 27 points a game. Opponents have scored since Rank put that out in the world. Just calling you out there, Rank. And on the season, take a deep dive on Dennis's D here.
They've played one offense in the top 10 EPA per play. Carolina, that Panthers put up 478 yards of total offense. On these guys, point being, Drake May might ball out here if his line can protect him.
Now, as we know, so can Caleb Williams and his offense. He showed no restrictions last week in his first game back. He picked apart the Falcons' defense when he had time, twenty-six of twenty-six, I believe, when he was not pressured. But the Pats' pass rush is not the fail clowns, and you have to think they will be all in on the line and trying to stop the NFL's best running game. But can Caleb?
Love make him pay. I think he can. I'm going Bears minus three here. Cool, dude. I love that matchup so much.
What a great game! Really quickly, let me ask you: Dennis Allen or Brandon Staley? I'd rather have Dennis Allen than Brandon Staley. That's literally you think of Staley at this point because I know how literally you think of Allen at every point. Oh my gosh!
Yes. Wow. Yeah, no Staley. Thank you. Did you enjoy nine or eighteen lights?
Staley's defense on fire, dude. Of course, it was Staley's defense of all everything else. And now everybody's assuming he's going to play forward that way, right? But that won't happen. I can't see that happen.
But yes, I did enjoy it. That was an indictment on how great of a coach Staley is. Too bad, man. Good, dude. Anyway, you know what?
I'm riding with you. Bears minus three.
Okay, I like it. Beautiful. All right.
Same page. Great game. Great game. Sorry, half fam. I know you're not gonna like that.
Chris in Boston is watching right now, losing his mind. I'm sure. But Bears minus three at home. Caleb, I think, is playing with a major chip on his shoulder after taking all that heat for the way he went down with that hammy and his fingernail polish. He's channeling John Wick.
I like it. All right, who's next? Better game, Chiefs at Seahawks here. Seattle is favored against the undefeated Chiefs by two and a half points. This Spags D is doing Spags things here.
Look at these numbers here, Lauren. Pop them up there right now. I mean, there's a list of numbers right now for Spags' defense, and they're all elite. I mean, I'd read them all, but we'd be here all segment. Those are good numbers, but but here's the thing: can I jump in?
How do you lose your top two corners and then come back like that?
Well, I'm gonna say I'm gonna throw this out here. This is how, right? PFF left this part out of that whole tweet right now. Their passing grades of QBs they've played this year: last, dead last, third to last, fourth to last. I.e., Herbert, Willis, Dimes, and Nix, all ash.
Right, so that probably helps quite a bit. Yeah, right. Kirk Cousins is the only quarterback they've played who has played baby Jessica.
Well, you hear me? Thanks for teaching me that last week. But anyway, Seattle problem. Darnold's in the ass category. Damn, that backfired on me.
What a horrible pneumonic. Pneumonic. Dude, I learned it though.
Now it's just gonna say baby. He played good. They're playing. Baby played good, bro. Bro, play everything good.
Call everything good. Who's not good, Darnold, and especially without that Kenneth Walker guy.
So he happens to be on the other side of the ball.
So can Seattle's defense stop Walker? That'll be fun to watch. But one thing, Walker and Kerm have got to protect the football. An amazing thing about do you know Michael McDonald's defense? When they get one turnover, they're eighteen and three.
The last season and this season, two losses came to Kyle.
So basically, eighteen to. One outside of the best coach in the league.
So, and Kermit. Um, not throw it to the other team. He's thrown like nine last twelve games, nine of them interceptions there. But he's still thirteen, three and one ATS as a career dog.
So we got we got to go to the Chiefs here and take the points. That's tough, right? That one's right. That one's hard. Under three.
If you're like Sam Clemente, he's got to get right at some point. You know that Seattle defense will be ready. The twelve's out of mind. They're coots, yeah. But KC, yeah, KC, what points?
Yeah, bro, I'm gonna ride with you. I'm gonna ride with you. I'll take the points. My my system is split on that one, but I'm going with the better one.
So there you go. All right, let's take the points. KC plus two and a half. All right, so we're on the same page on everything. What's next?
Bengals v. Ravens here, so things are changing. The Ravens had been favored by three and a half points at home, and it's because the books thought Lamar would be back, but Lamar missed practice today.
Now, is it his ankle, or did Chanho Jackson get another case of the poopies? I do not know, but the number has now moved to Cincy minus one. Can you go one week without this?
Well, it's Lamar, dude. You're acting like I'm. This stuff up. Yeah, I had no idea. Did this stop being amusing like five years ago when you started doing it?
Yep, but for five years, Lamar has missed practice for weird reasons, and it's usually the usually this. Did Chan Hudson do this like twenty-five years ago? He he did too, and Rivera's in the background too. Great, great. Yeah, but anyways, good good news for Cincy here because Lamar has actually thrown more touchdowns and ran for more yards against Cincy than against any team in the NFL.
That's great for those guys, obviously. And really, the question now can Bland, Zach, and Al Golden adjust Al Golden's run? D the last three weeks, only the two New York teams are allowing more rushing yards a game than his D over. That time span, but the key number here. Owls use the light box more than anyone in football, so he needs to stack the box.
I'm assuming, especially if Lamar doesn't go. Also, Baltimore has used the second lightest box of anybody in the NFL this year, meaning bland Zach. Any creativity, dude, in that bland running game of yours is needed now. Why are we giving you a little bit of the benefit of the doubt? They're coming off a buy.
The time is now.
So I'm going to go with Joe. In the Bengals minus the one and a half, one right now. I'd actually wait though, because if Lamar does play, you'll get a couple points here. Interesting, right? And is Derek going to put it on the ground again?
Ah, Cincinnati needs it, right? I, I don't love it. I'm going Cincinnati minus a buck and a half.
Okay, not feeling great about it though, dude, because of Bland, Zach, and Golden. Not trusting either. Ah, my gosh, is Golden officially on the list? Remind me. Is he honorable mention?
Others receiving votes, or is he on the list?
So like the first two weeks he was coming off, he was kind of on the watch list. In the last two games, he's back close to it again. If he loses me this bet, he's absolutely back on the list. And so is Blandzak and his lame ass. Dude, how garbage is that division?
Dude, it's terrible. Everybody's looking up at the Cleveland like Browns. Yeah, lunch with a monkin', lunch with a monkin'. Crazy. That's that's that's kind of cool outside of the Cosby guy, but yeah.
Okay. Yep. All right.
So what what is that? Is that four? What else we got? That's three right there. I got a fourth right here.
I got a fifth too. Lions v Packers. Number is Detroit minus three. There we go. Initial thought is liking the Packers in those points.
They've won three straight games, but. That offense has been inconsistent. I mean, they put up only 318 yards of total offense against the serial last Cowboys defense. Only the Raiders' offense last season has gained fewer yards in the last calendar year against Dallas.
Now, the worry for the Lions is their defense, right over the top. Love did connect, yeah. Why they've been great? Yeah, because they've been phenomenal there, and Jordan Love connecting on six pass. Of thirty plus plays against Dennis Allen's D, who knows what they'll do against this Detroit secondary?
That is their absolute poop hole. Their numbers are the worst in the NFL. But here is the thing: they have the four-man front to own this Packers poop hole offensive line, one of the worst offensive lines in football. They can't run the football, so Aiden, those guys can do it. They just need to load load up on that back secondary.
As for Detroit's offense, their numbers are they're stupid right now: second in points, fourth in yards. I don't think they're that good.
Some of them are garbage time stats.
Some of Goff's are garbage time stats. But Green Bay's defense, dumb, they did look fantastic. Dallas credit for that, but Pinnix led the Falcons against these guys and almost gained 500 yards. An offense that's not even close to this Detroit team. And the Lions are home and extended rest, which Cannibal and Goff are elite with together.
Sixteen seven and one there ATS. I'm going to go Detroit and lay the three. Actually, the one thing you're not factoring in is Michael. Coaching everybody up on the sideline, not playing, mind you, still not playing. Patrick Kerm is playing and playing at a high level and suffered a similar injury right around the same time.
And Michael is not playing, but damn, he is coaching them up on the sideline. Is that not worth a field goal? It might be. It might be, but I'm just kidding. No, it's not.
Yeah, I know. Yeah, means nothing at all. You know that weird game. Why is it taking so long to? Why is it?
Well, his argument is, I don't want to come back too soon and risk overcompensating for this injury and getting hurt somewhere else. Did I talk to Michael? Did Kerb not consider the same thing? Why is he not back yet? Yeah, I don't.
I don't know, man. I'm actually surprised on that one. Why is he not back yet? And spewing lava on his pod and coaching everybody up on the sideline. And here we are, this far into the season, and still nothing.
Where? How do you think he and Gannon, Jonathan Gannon, will get along? Those two personalities, a little weird, right? As long as Gannon does whatever Michael tells him, they'll get along fine. Yeah, so what am I gonna that guy?
What are tell me? Is it three? Three? It's three. Yeah, lions laying three.
Yes, at home. Let's do it. Do it, all right. Beautiful. I have not disagreed with you yet, which means we're going to get our asses, Kane.
You might hear, you might hear, because this is a trap game. But Kane, keep in mind, these are the ones you feel good about. These are not the other ones that you are going to hit that you are not going to mention on air. These are the ones you feel good about. But we've had more success with the other ones.
Last two weeks, I've been absolutely torched with my best bets. But the other ones have actually carried the weekend for me on Sundays.
So why don't we flip that? Why why don't we bury the best bets and take the ones?
Well, they might have to fade me. It might have to fade me on that. Make that system number four. We don't play your best bets because they're actually your worst bets. We play the ones that nobody knows about.
System, you might have to. If if we miss again for a third straight week, they might have to do without a doubt. You might even want to start fade me right now until I get this back. All right, but I got the green on the day. You got one more.
I got to make money. One more. One more right here. Yeah, one more. Let's do it.
One more. Forty Nineers v Falcons. The undefeated Forty Nineers are a three point favorite here, but this is a tough ask. They are running out of players. They are coming off a Monday night game and very important.
Two and a half right there. Three or two and a half. Three, so it changed. It's three now. It's three and a half there, but it moved down to three just a second ago.
It had been three and a half, so I like it even better. It is three right now. Hate the um, yeah, I know.
So, so hit it maybe now if you want to with all those things. I thought it'd be higher though. My system right here, everything's written out. I got it like six point three four. I think we want to know, anyways.
Yeah. The hell do you know? Nothing. Right. Double.
Yeah. You got six point four. Got six point three four.
So why why are we not smashing your family at three?
Well, okay. Good point. Right. So well, we should be because that's what I'm gonna I'm gonna talk about right now. But why the numbers could change?
Four ahead. I know. I know. But the system. It does well.
It does take an account. The things that it's taking account to, right? Monday night game coming off that—that's hard. Going from the West Coast to the early East Coast, you very hard. You hate that.
You hate it. You got to take points off that, but we did, and we still get these good numbers from it. But somehow, some way, Kyle's going to have to scheme up some outside production for Brock. They gassed out as we saw without Mike Evans on Monday night. The good news, though, the Falcons have allowed.
Can I interrupt? You can't play that guy, right? You cannot rush that guy back. You can't play that guy, especially on their turf, right? Right.
I mean, they're going to play on a turf game. Right. I don't think you can, and that's what that's what the worry is about. Yeah, you're undefeated. It's not worth the risk.
Do not rush that guy, Kyle. Yeah, but I was very surprised how they talked about him. Do not eagle with him. I'm a little worried. I'm a little worried, but if they don't play him.
The good news is the Falcons have allowed the most receptions in footballs this season to Whiteout, eighty-nine bottom line receptions this far.
So that's a good thing for them, and they also have CMC and they have Kittle.
So that should be enough, I think, for San Francisco to score some points. As for the Falcons' offense, there's a chance Nick got somebody head. They have my quarterback. That's my quarterback. Yeah.
Well, I gave him credit for Kyle scheming stuff up for Brock. I think that's how it'll happen here. Still, still, I gotta be nice to Brock. Credit that's giving that's giving your idol credit, head. I know I gotta be nice to Brock.
Stop acting like Brock has nothing to do with them being undefeated. We'll see how this week, and if he could throw people open, because usually Kyle gets these guys open. But we'll see this week. I'll give him credit. Is Kyle under center for me?
Is Kyle under center? No, he's not. No, but he's had like Nick Mullins under there, and he wins. Crew station is not under center, man. All right, anyway, who do we like?
Who do we like? Who do we like? So, one more point too on the Evans thing. Nick Bose is getting close too, but I can't imagine it again. Rolling him out on that turf, that stadium there.
They need to get pressure on Penix. Last week, he was terrible. One for four with three sacks. I think his rib injury is actually legit. Hopefully, Tua might play.
I don't think he will. ATS Falcons are zero and three at home this season. We're going forty niners minus three. If Tua gets in, will the Niners be like Tua? Oh, dude, it's Tua.
That backfire. That was not handled well, man. You can't have a teammate sell or run another teammate under the bus like that. Tua, I'm gonna get one. I'm gonna get one.
If Tua, you can thank it, but don't tell the media that your teammate was saying that. You don't want to do that. That's like Jordan battle stuff. You don't want to do that. Don't want to do that.
All right, so we got five right there. We got five right there. I know you will hit every other game over the weekend. Every game, bro. Can you please direct us in?
We had such a good run of parlays on Saturdays. Can you direct us into a parlay? Like you've got this thing, head. For those of you watching right now, head's got this thing where he comes up with three parlays. One's like like a given, you know, maybe plus one twenty five.
The second one's a little diceier, maybe plus two twenty five. With some of the Teams and then the head will lose his mind. Like with a nine-team parlay, there will be twelve hundred bucks. I know, kids, because your thinking is if we hit one of those, the entire season it covers the rest. Correct, and then I always move my units down so I don't lose, go over the top, and I can't control how we spend money here.
I just not me. I keep my units the same, and I've been whir. I had way too much confidence in your multi and varied systems, Ed. I'm gonna have to move my units down too on the parlays, dude. The only thing that makes it great is it's fantastic with FanDuel, dude.
It it's fun throughout the entire day to watch so many games, and even if you're if if you're out and about to follow on your app, sometimes.
Well, if Texas or Oregon or Florida, absolutely. Freaking wrecks your Saturday at ten o'clock in the morning. Yeah, it's not very good when it happens on that kind of stuff. But usually November, I start doing better on my parlays. But we still have two more weeks before.
I still want to run out of money before then. All right, there you go. Head, good job on a Wednesday. I know this was different for your routine.
Well done. Let's get it, man. Are you putting the stuff up on X? Ah, the videos we're putting up on X. Yes, of course we are.
There we go. Good. All right.
So let's get paid. Good job, X. Appreciate you, man.
Well done. Thanks, Jim. Good job, head on X is what I meant. We do put the videos up. Dude, he he is out of control.
He all of a sudden started hitting me with, "I'm going to hit every game in the NFL, and then I'm going to hit as many games in college." I'm like, "Head, what is going on? How did we get from five to ten to twelve to twenty?" But we have a lot of action. Lot of action.
So, listen. If you don't like or respect what we're doing, fade us, fade us. We don't care. We don't take that personally. We just want community.
Do not play what you can't afford. Do not play which keeps you up at night. Do not play your mortgage. Play just enough that you get a bit of a sweat, and then we have something to share on the weekends, and we can commiserate or we can celebrate together. It's a lot of fun.
Nice job, head. All right, we'll take a break. We're open the rest of the way, so go anywhere you want with it. I've got a lot that I want to get to, including 18. JJ, man, I can't believe this guy.
This guy was left for dead five minutes ago, and now he's going to start for a first place team. What will he do with that op? We'll talk about that on the other side. One quick question: Why is Old Trapper beef jerky so amazing? There is something to be said for a family business which stands by quality, which has a standard, and that standard is to make the world's finest beef jerky.
That is their standard; they don't deviate from that standard.
So, do not be fooled by other brands. All beef jerky is not the same; far from it. Make sure you choose Old Trapper, where you can actually see the quality right through their clear view packages. They do that on purpose. Of course, every bite of Old Trapper is tender.
It's never tough because they use only the best ingredients, from their lean strips of beef seasoned with top quality spices to their real wood-fired smoke. Old Trapper delivers quality in every single bite. And truth be told, I eat it every single day. I love it. Get a nice energy boost.
Love the way it tastes. Just a great product. Really, really nice. Four different flavors. Grab and go with a four ounce bag.
That way you can try all four. Or if you already know, load it up with the eighteen ounce bag. That way there's enough for the entire team. Or I mean, just go ham, just go big on all of it. If you don't see it, ask for Old Trapper by name, because no other jerky compares.
Old Trapper, what is your beef? You are listening to the Jim Rome Show. Everyone talks about how challenging it is to raise kids, but what about protecting them? Outlet covers, kitchen cabinet locks, baby gates—where do you even start?

So as always, Jamie in Green Bay, very steady, very consistent, never misses, doesn't go over the top. But it's just right there. Always hits his target. Jamie in Green Bay. Quote: Did you mention bow hunting?
Did you mean bow hunting, not fishing, in the trees of Wisconsin, or is this some Bill Plashky sturgeon with a spear ish? Funny you should put it that way. No, that's not what that is. We found some B-roll of Kevin bowfishing, and here it is. Oh, dude, gnarly!
Holy crap! Look at my dude shooting bows into the water and reeling in fish.
Now I don't know if that's carp or not. That's serious. That is serious. I can't look at that. I can't say that I've ever seen anything like that.
So he was not kidding around. He loves to bowfish. He's not a golf cart right there. Off a golf cart in the swamp, dude. Look at that bow.
Look at that bow. That is high tech. That is serious business. My man's not playing. Look at this.
Okay, this is what he posted. Take notice, people, because now I'm in the forty pound club. Forty three point two pound buffalo carp shot in good old Wisconsin. What a thrill it was! Thing was huge.
Bow fishing is my passion, and fish like this just make me way too happy. Watch when he drops this fish. Look at the carnage, dude. We may not be doing that show together. I don't think that's bow and release.
That would not appear to be bow and release. Hey, my man. I'm not judging. I'm just saying I'm not about that life. Even if we have Wisco roots.
All right.
So that's video. Jamie and Green Bay started us off. Then this one chased that one. Jr. on the four one four.
Dear at Jim Rome. I heard you yesterday at the end of the show discussing fishing with someone other than me. That's it. I'm banning myself from your show again, and this time it's for life. For life.
P.S. I mean, you know, Ham, Eric, and Orlando. Me know Ham. I come and tease. All right, so that's Jr.
on the four one four. That's not actually Eric and Orlando. He's just making fun of Eric and Orlando, but incredibly. The actual Eric in Orlando is still paying attention. Why I've got no idea.
He boycotted this show. He sent almost the exact same exact email. He boycotted me and the show, but he's still paying attention. Eric wrote: There's only one true king of fishing smack, the most polished, successful, and consistent angler in the jungle. Still baffled as to why he's no longer part of the program.
Make it make sense, respectfully. E C J. Eric C. Jones. All right, bro.
If I have to make it make sense, I will make it make sense one more time. That I should have boycotted you for that. Are you watching on the stream, Eric, with a couple of paid models at a car show? Rocking Hooters gear, Eric at another show with a couple of more paid models. But but but you want to know why you're no longer a part of the program, Eric?
You boycotted me. Although I did not understand it at that time, given how well I treated you always, you boycotted me. I don't remember why, and at this point, I don't care why. But I'm somebody who's man enough to honor a boycott. I've seen this before, Eric, and I've seen it happen with guys that were much more impressive than you.
No offense. Where all of a sudden they like, they love the show. They love the show. They love the show, and then they turn villain, and then they hate me, and they hate the show, and they talk junk about the show, and they try to be bad guys. But that's part and parcel.
It's what I signed up for. I get it. I get it, and I don't care because I've got a show to do every single day. Eric, you're one of those dudes. You boycotted me.
I did not boycott you. I did not ban you. You banned me. Why are you asking me why you're not a part of the show? You banned yourself because you banned me.
You boycotted me. What do we not understand about this, Eric? Eric, a boycott is a boycott. You don't get to go before the parole board. You don't get to go before the XR4Ti and plead your case and say, Tammy, Tammy, I, I don't know what happened.
Make it make sense, Alvi, Alvi. You understand me? Me know how I'm. Hattie, Hattie, you understand? I just want to fish.
Hattie, which outs? Come on, put in a good word for me, bro. You've gone before the parole board, and they've said no every single time, Eric. But but but, Romy, I told you, I mean no harm. No harm.
I come in peace, Jim. You come in peace, Jim. You mean no harm, bro. You boycotted me. I accepted it.
I'm fine with it. I moved on. I moved on with my life. Always forward, never back. Don't look back.
I can't control so many things. Here are the only things in my life I can't control: my attitude, my preparation, my effort. What I cannot control are over the top fishermen who boycott me. Therefore, I don't spend any time on it, bro. Why do you keep asking me why you're not a part of this show?
The answer is for the last freaking time, Eric. You boycotted the show. That's why. There are lots of other fish in the sea. Oh, see what I did there.
Lots of other fish in the sea, Eric.
Now, maybe none of those other fish or shows are as good as this, but there are lots of other fish in the sea. Man, just take that boat to another fishing hole, bro. Here is my advice to you: if you find another fishing hole and you are able to pull a lot of fish out of that drink, do not boycott that hole. My best advice to you. Don't boycott that hole.
Yeah, shut up. Why are we still having this conversation, Eric? Rome, the biggest loser last night was Nick Van, forking out an average ticket price of over eighteen hundred bucks to watch them take a big dump on the court. Matt and Green Bay. I don't know, dude.
I bet they'd say it's worth it. They wanted to see the banner. They wanted to see the championship banner. It was opening night. They wanted to see LeBron.
They wanted to see the Seventy Sixers. It didn't go their way. They were pissed. I don't think they were upset about it. Being the banner go up, seeing the banner go up outweighed seeing them take a big dump in their pants on the floor or urinate down their legs.
It was all about the banner. It was all about the cloth. And finally, Mr. Jingles, Double O Seven, Philly, this is for you.
Now I'm going to walk to my penthouse after this win. Pretty much, pretty much. All right.
When we come back, I want to talk about JJ if I have time. And I'm still looking for your reaction by phones, by X, by email, by chat. I'm going to talk to a Super Bowl winner and an icon, Jim McMahon, after the program. I'm going to talk to him in a number of years. Looking forward to it.
Lots to talk to him about, passing Mike Ditka, Bears, Jim McMahon's business interests. I'm sure he's got a story or two. Jim McMahon, episode number 431 of the Jim Rome Podcast, and that is after this show. You're listening to the Jim Rome Show. Because, damn, did you ever luck out, bro? Did you ever fail upwards? Did you ever fail forwards, my dude? Because JJ McCarthy is officially the starting quarterback of the New York Giants, and I'm sorry, but this is one of the funniest things I've ever seen. No offense, nine eighteen.
Six minutes ago, eighteen. You were one of the biggest busts in recent NFL mystery. You were just discarded like garbage by the world-renowned QB whisperer KOC. Yet all of a sudden, this dude finds himself as the starting quarterback of a first-place team. Ten seconds ago, the Vikings left him on a curb with a sign around his neck that read, "If you can haul him, you can have him." Even though they spent the tenth overall pick on him only two years prior, come to find out, that was the luckiest thing that could have ever happened to that dude because now he's got the opportunity of a lifetime after being kicked to the curb and a bust.
Not only lost the starting job. But dropped all the way down to number three.
So he's got this amazing opportunity. The question is, what is he going to do with this op? Giant fan. I don't know whether to tell you to be hyped or to be terrified. Judging by his career so far, I would say nine is about to do nothing with this opportunity of a lifetime.
Just like he did nothing with his last opportunity of a lifetime in Minnesota. That said, I can't completely ignore that fourth quarter explosion. That spark against the Saints last week—that was a legitimate spark for the entire team, and that dude did throw it all around the yard.
Now, granted, the caveat there is it was against a Brandon Staley defense, a defense that has been routinely torched so far this season. I'm going to be calling the defense. And speaking of coaches, imagine if KOC. Couldn't get anything out of nine or eighteen, but it turns out that the brain trust of Matt Nagy, Greg Roman, and Brian Callahan can. Yeah, I am actually finding that very hard to believe, but I do understand why the Giants are making this move.
They're essentially just swapping Jameis for younger Jameis, who is also a hell of a lot more mobile. Because Jameis is not mobile at all, Jameis can be a stopgap for a game or two, but with the Giants in first place, and they are, albeit in a horrible decision division, now might be the right time to see if the offense might run better with 18 at the helm, especially after he set the field on fire in that fourth quarter on Saturday. By the way, did I mention what a joke that that division is? Because that's part of the why this is such a massive opportunity for JJ. It's an incredibly winnable division.
Somebody's got to win that division, right? And it sure as hell doesn't look like Philly, and it sure as hell doesn't look like the Commanders, which leaves only the two and four Cowboys, and they look nothing like a division champion. It's an amazing twist of fate. It's an amazing opportunity for JJ on almost every level. Almost every level, the Giants do need to get their run game figured out stat, because JJ throwing the ball forty times plus is only going to lead to a catastrophe.
The Giants need to run the ball to open things up for JJ. JJ can't throw the ball to open things up for the run game, and so far. All their platoon experiment is yielded. Is Najee Harris complaining about that platoon and getting cut? I would say one thing in fixing the run game is figuring out whether Cam Scadaboo is actually benched or not.
Because after no carries, zero against the Saints this week, Cam said that he got punished for the fumbles and he understands. I think we all get it on some level. The fumbles have to stop. Except John Harbaugh, then got up on the podium and defiantly declared that the running back was not benched, was clearly not benched, and it had nothing to do with the drops. Didn't bench Cam Scadaboo as far as not giving him carries.
No, that was that was not by design. I mean, we had all those guys were taking equal reps. You know, in the first half, we were trying to see who could you know who could make something happen. You know, who could who could kind of get a hot hand and earn it. Nobody's nobody's really taking the ball by the horns.
One of those guys needs to step up.
Somebody needs to step up and be the back, and and none of those guys have done that yet. And when one of those guys steps up to be the back, then they'll be the back. That's your answer, and that's as honest as I can be about it. You know, they know that too. And I believe believe me, they're all hungry.
They want to step up. One of those guys wants to step up.
Somebody's going to step up and take that job. We're going to see who it is. How much of that was a byproduct of the fumbling, or are you talking about just the overall? I think it's been pretty clear the whole story. I mean, there's really no more.
I don't even know what else to say. I mean, that's like that's the best answer you could ever get on that in a thousand years. There's not a coach in the world that would give you a better answer than that. That's if you if you if you're not like thrilled with that answer, I got nothing else for you. Honestly, dude.
I don't know who's more weird, you or your bro. The hell is going on with you two, harbros? I don't know how I could have given you a better answer. That's the best coach answer ever. That's the best answer in a thousand years.
You haven't even answered the question. What do you mean best answer ever? It wasn't even a good answer. Let alone the best answer in a thousand years. The question, Coach.
Ever get on that? Cam Scadaboo had zero carries. What do you mean he wasn't benched for dropping the ball? Damn, the Harbros are just getting so freaking weird. I got nothing else for you.
You had nothing else for us to begin with. JJ, man, this dude! I can't believe this dude. Left for dead, and now starting for a first place team. Stay tuned.
