All right, so we move into hour number three. Welcome back. Good afternoon. I'm Jim Rome. Starting hour number three, we are looking to set up a conversation with the WBC Welterweight champion Ryan Garcia.
And should that go down, that could come down in the next 20 minutes or so. We had that scheduled earlier, but he had a workout that ran late, so we're trying to get that done. It's got a big fight coming up this weekend. Also, if you want to call in, go ahead and do so. Resetting very quickly, we talked a lot about the Michigan game, Michigan v.
Western Michigan, and the fact that there was a secret clock. An official clock that nobody seemed to know about except for I don't know. Three or four people somewhere. And that's why Michigan got another shot at a Hail Mary and they converted and they won.
So Western Michigan actually won that game because the clock hit triple zero, only to find out they did not win that game and they had to play one more play. But they couldn't knock it down. They couldn't make a play. They lost. Also, I started the program by discussing that beatdown.
The lane kiffin. And LSU put on Clemson. and the fact that the SEC responded quickly by escalating, and they're going to have a meeting on Thursday whereby they're going to decide whether or not to vote to kick LSU out of the conference. Get the hell out of here with that. I mean, yes, I was critical of Lane last week.
Yes, I asked the question, Lane, how is this worth it? How is it worth it? Listen to what the SEC is saying. The SEC is saying that If you don't fall in line and you don't follow their rules, they will enact the following punishments. They will suspend you for half a season.
They will fine the program millions and millions and millions and millions of dollars. You will lose your right to vote. Oh, and now this. We could kick you out of the conference. And we might.
And if we get two-thirds of a vote from the conference, we will do so. The hell are you talking about? They beat Clemson down, and you're going to kick them out of the conference based on what?
some extremely tame smack That Lane Kiffen spoke at halftime in an interview, which would suggest a lack of institutional control. Damn, SEC, butt hurt much. What are we doing here? All of a sudden they look like a national championship contender. L let's be sure to kick them out of the conference.
What are we going to do then? At least there won't be any lawyers involved. At least there won't be more courtroom drama, man. Stop. Stop with the threats that you're going to kick.

So we talked about that too. Let me go to another topic. I want to talk about the 49ers. I want to talk about Kyle Jr. Lobster Shanahan.
My guy. ye ever consider this. You ever think that maybe Things are so confusing to you. Because you're making things way more confusing than they need to be. It's confusing because it's confusing.
When we first got that quote, It's confusing. Because it's confusing. I thought it was mildly amusing. What that referred to was Kyle talking about the Brandon Ayuk situation. He's like, I don't really understand.
Like, I've never had this happen before. We're reaching out to a player that we're paying a lot of money to, and that player is ghosting us. It's confusing because it's confusing. I mean, that was actually applicable. But really, come to find out, it's applicable to more than just Ayuk.
It applies to a lot more than just that topic. When you consider the 49ers offseason, In fact, you can apply it to almost anything. As it relates to the 49ers these days, as an example, why did Brandon Ayuk just essentially ghost the team and decide that he was on the commanders after the 49ers paid him a buttload and a bleep ton of cash? Why? For all of us.
Well, it's confusing because it's confusing. I don't have an answer. Also, for example. Why did Jed Pork Feel the need to try to procure a one hundred and sixty dollar hooker. in an Ohio trailer park while rocking a Yankee tee.
Why? I don't know, it's confusing because it's confusing. You see what I'm getting at? Here's a question. Why is there some weirdo?
Posing as a 49er wide receiver. and bringing his helmet everywhere he goes, and how did he get away with it for years? And successfully scam over 20 women for more than a million bucks. I don't know, but I can tell you this. It's confusing because it's confusing for all of us.
For all of us.
And finally, Why did we not find out? about Kyle Shanahan's bizarre car accident for weeks even though apparently there was nothing nefarious about it at all. He just dropped his phone and he took his eye off the road. But why did it take us weeks to find that out if there was nothing wrong? Um Again, it's confusing because it's confusing.
It's all confusing because it's confusing. It is what it is. See, it's like the perfect clip to sum up the entire Frisco offseason. But of all the insanely bizarre things the They've been going around lately. Around that team.
I was never as confused. during any of it as I was trying to listen to Junior Lobster explain what day it actually is in Australia. It's like listening to James Kelly try to explain anything. Check this out. This is from Sunday here in the States.
I'm still trying to figure out on Tuesday. What the hell was he talking about? This is Kyle Shanahan down under. On Sunday. Like I said, we're a little confused with When I look at my clock and it says the time, and then I try to see my family's time, and it says the time, but it says yesterday.
I don't even get how that's possible.
So I feel like I'm in the future. And then also when we play on our Friday, which I think is a Thursday in the U.S., we're such creatures of habit.
So I call today Tuesday. No, wait, sorry, I call today Wednesday, which is the first day we put in a game plan. But I think it's Monday.
However, though, it's Sunday in the present.
So like, I'm going to mess that up all week if you guys ask me. But today is just our first day of the game plan, which is a Wednesday. We'll put in some on a Thursday. Friday is the final part of the game plan. Saturday, we walk through when we play on Sunday, which is a Friday in Australia and a Thursday in the U.S.
So don't ever make me do that again. Damn lobster. I feel like The bag just deployed and smashed me in my head, and I don't know where I am.
Okay, so when you're talking about that clock. Is that the official clock or the secret clock? What clock are you talking about there, Kyle? Oh, I get it. I got it.
Thanks for clearing up nothing at all. This dude sounds like he doesn't even know what planet he's on, let alone what day it is. Yo, lobster, maybe that's why the Rams haven't even landed. In Australia, yet. Maybe that's why the Rams are showing up a day early so they don't have to acclimate, so they don't get confused what day it is and whether or not they're currently living in the past.
The present, the future, whether or not it's September or October. Or August. It's really not that weird, dude. Not as weird as you're making it. Or at least the Rams don't think it has to be.
Because their plan is not to consult a calendar every hour of every day or have some legitimate time crises. The Rams plan is basically just to get off that plane and play, and then get back on that plane and come home. Pretty simple. It's like Junior Lobster is getting more and more confused by things all the time. Like the IU situation. Was just so confusing, it broke that guy.

Now this dude that like one of the smartest guys in the room One of the greatest play callers ever.
Now this dude can't wrap his head around anything. It's like you ask him, hey, Kyle, what day is it? And he goes into. Mubajak mode, like I think it's a very good thing. He becomes Bill Belichick day.
Talk to the house in. Hey, Kyle, what day is today? What day is it right now where you are?
So I called today Tuesday.
So I called today Wednesday. Wait, you call it today Tuesday or you call it today Wednesday? What day do you call it today?
So I call it today Tuesday.
Okay, but what day? Tell me about what day you call it. What day is it? Bro, there's a significant time difference, but not that significant. Which is the first day of the day.
But you know what day it is. But at least I understood the words you used. I didn't understand what you were talking about at all. But at least you didn't say, quote, Yeah, son. How long does it ask him?
Yeah, I don't know. How long goes in? Hey, Radio Manor. Hey, by the way, dude. You're gonna find that iPhone.
Or is it still buried? Under the front seat of your Tesla. Look, I get it. It happens. I've even lost my phone in a seat.
Actually, I think that's a good question. But it was an airline seat. Not a car seat. I lost my phone once in an airline seat. Granted, it did not cause the plane to veer straight into another plane head on.
But still, it happens to us all.
Sort of. I mean, what are we doing? I mean, it's confusing because it's confusing. Am I right, Kyle? It's confusing because it's confusing for all of us.
So you imagine how it's pissed. And confused that guy's going to be if the Rams win that game. Because he's already furious that he has to go all the way over there. And he thinks it's because the Rams push for it, because the Rams don't want to play Frisco in their own stadium when it's not a home game for the Rams.
So imagine having to go all the way. Think how far that guy had to go. You wanna know how far that guy had to go? Listen to how confused he is. Like I always say, we used to say this when we traveled our horses: if you're going to make a trip like that, you better win.
Because frankly, as the saying went, They're never the same when they come back. It's asking a lot.
So the 49ers, if they have to go all the way to Australia and they get knocked the hell out, They might not be the same when they come back. They're already busted up. They're already confused as hell. Listen to their head coach.
So, what I'm saying is, Frisco, you better win that game. You're gonna be really confused if you go all the way there and you don't know. And by the way, they don't know what day it is. They better know what day it is so they show up for the game. What if you lose track of the days and you don't show up for the game?
And then you forfeit. Frisco, that would suck, am I right? But so I called today Tuesday. No, wait, sorry, I called today Wednesday. But I think that would be like the recurring dream that I've had where I never know when my finals were, and they don't know when the game is being played because they're so jacked up over the time change.
You know what's really weird? I don't know why I read this Frisco fan. I'll save it because I want to take a shout out to my guest. Who's coming up next? But I read somewhere once: the fix for excessive jet lag is to run a bath, make the water as hot as you could possibly take, and then get into the bathtub.

Two-time Pro Bowl selection Baker Mayfield. And the box Have reached an agreement. On a three-year contract extension that will prevent the quarterback from becoming a free agent after the season, per me and at rap sheet. Mayfield had broken off talks as camp opened. But with the regular season kicking off this week, a deal has been revisited and now struck.
Schefter goes on, quote, Compensation update. It's a three-year, $165 million deal. Adam Scheffter, I have one more post. Baker Mayfield initially signed with the Buccaneers on a one-year, $4 million prove it deal in 2023. He has since signed a three-year, $100 million contract and now has landed another three-year contract extension.
All right, so a few thoughts on that. Pretty amazing. Not that the Browns could have ever used a quarterback like that. Look at what this guy's done.
So he goes there on a one-year, $4 million prove-it deal. Had to follow. Bacon gets a three year extension worth one hundred mil, goes into the final year of that contract, wants a new deal, says that he wants that new deal done before camp or he's shutting it down because he doesn't want to discuss it during the year. And then says he has that presser where he lays it right out that he's disappointed. They've told me I'm a franchise quarterback.
Why are you not taking care of me like a franchise quarterback? There was some reporting that. The organization didn't care for that. And now the deal's done. Three years, 165 mil, and now paid like a top 10 quarterback.
So, you talk about a guy betting on himself over and over and over and over again. And that chip on his shoulder. He turned a one-year-old. $4 million prove-it deal into a three-year, $100 million contract into a three-year extension worth $165 million.

I like that. All right, so bring me up today, man. Are you happy with the way camp went? And how would you describe your headspace right now ahead of the fight? You know, it went amazing.
You know, I fought in February and I won the world title.
So. I guess Not having a long layoff and staying active, staying in the gym. has really made this camp very just smooth, sharp. and direct, you know, you don't have to really Like Find the rhythm or find what you have to do. You kind of already have that, and then you just improve as much as you can in the time strain that you're training.
All right, so I know you're not talking about weight, you're talking more about being sharp, but much easier to stay in weight. Or to stay in shape than to get into shape, right? Like, isn't that like a fighter's mentality, like that Spartan lifestyle, that if you don't let yourself get too far away and you like live that lifestyle, isn't it going to go so much smoother?
Well, yeah, there's a well-balance. You know, boxing camps require everything, it's an everyday thing.
So, you know, after you're done with your fight, As long as you don't get too far off, like you said, things are much easier and more peaceful. Um I mean that's what we did, so we feel great. Ryan Garcia joining us. He's the champ. Hey, Ryan, in terms of the fight itself, you're the champ.
Is winning the fight enough, or are you looking to win this fight a certain way? If I do what I've been doing all camp, I'm going to do it in a spectacular way. I'm here to put on the performance that will amaze the fans, entertain yourself. and entertain the whole world at the end of the day.
So I'm not one of those boxers that come and just look for the W. I'm here to show that. It wasn't even close and I could do it in style. We're talking to Ryan Garcia. Ryan, as a boxer, do you feel like you're more than a boxer actually?
There's so much that goes into the fight game. There is the business, there is the athleticism, and you've got to be a warrior. There's so much that goes into it. Do you feel like holistically you're more than just a boxer? There's a lot more that comes with it than just being a great fighter?
Well, yeah, you need to be uh quite Uh Aware of, I guess, everything. You know, the way you present yourself, the way you market yourself, but also inside the ring, you have to have that sixth sense almost. And a lot of people kind of miss that, that awareness that the elite fighters have in seeing punches coming at them and seeing what the opponent is trying to do and then ultimately countering it.
So there's a bunch of things that come into boxing that people don't quite see, but. Um, I mean, that's why, you know, there's professionals and people that are at the highest level and some that aren't. Hey, Ryan, that sixth sense you're talking about, like the ability to adjust, the ability to see things that maybe others can't see. Like when you were young and you were watching fighters come up, was there anybody better at that than Floyd Mayweather? No, he had um He had a read on almost everybody he fought, and he was always well-conditioned.
So, when you have those two attributes, it's really hard to beat you. I mean, Floyd only had a couple off nights, but other than that, he was one of the greatest at awareness, and that's what made him probably the greatest. Hey, Ryan, can you learn that? Can that be trained, or is that innate? Is that something you have or you don't have?
It takes a lot of repetition and it takes a lot of focus and to be in tune. Not only in the fight, but even before the fight. A lot of the times you. You really lock in on like uh on that when uh it happens way before the fight even happens.
So, um, just like Muhammad Ali, you either win the fight before or you don't. You don't win it that day. A lot of preparation goes into it before you even step in there. Ryan Garcia joining us, he's the champ. I thought you had a tremendous post.
You posted on social that your performance will satisfy the public's hunger for violence and art at the same time. It's a great line. What did you mean by that? What I mean is this is gonna be a beautiful display of artwork where you know the footwork, the movement, the fluidity of the the match, but how brutal it's gonna be when I'm landing these punches. They're gonna be so ferocious and I'm gonna do a number on this guy's face.
His body, and I'm going to do it in beautiful style.
So, you're going to, you're going to love every aspect of the fight. And that's what I, I mean, I can't wait to show you guys what I've prepared for and what I present come Saturday night.

So, Connor Benn is the matchup. He's the top-ranked contender. Ryan, do you like, okay, so in the lead up to the fight, he seemed like he was a little bit tired and in promoting it. But I go back to July where you guys had a moment. Like, we understand the promotion of fights.
We understand trying to get that energy up and sell tickets. Like, how much of it is contrived and how much of it is actually legit? Like, do you have any ill will towards this guy, or is this just the next guy standing in front of you and trying to take what you already have? I would say it's a bit of both. Tempers can flare up pretty quick, especially in such an intense situation.
Emotions can rile up, but I also know the element that this is the show biz. You know, you got to make people interested. But it doesn't take a lot for me to get going. Where I grew up, everybody. shot jokes at each other's twenty four seven and, um, Whatever he dishes out I'll be Be able to get come right back word-wise.
And it's fun. You know, it's all part of the show. I take it as entertainment. You know, it's nothing new to me. And it's all about knowing the difference and not letting that really play a role into your psyche, protecting your psychology and your mental before and after that moment, whatever moment happened.
Ryan Garcia is the champ. He's going to fight Conor Benn in Vegas this weekend. I'm glad you brought up where you grew up because I was going to go there next. This show that you're on right now is based in SoCal. We're about, this studio is about 90 minutes from where you grew up.
So this is a national show, but SoCal based. You grew up in Victorville, about 90 miles from here, as I mentioned. How much pride do you take in repping the IE? And then how much do you think being from there shaped you as the person and fighter that you've become? I think that living where I lived in the high desert really.
Main Made things that could have had an access to me not really able to. You know, we didn't have many options up in there except either people were on drugs or they were just living a hood type of lifestyle, you know, trying to be in little clicks and little hoods or whatever you want to call it. And all I had was boxing and having to defend myself with people that were trying to bully me or, you know, trying to talk because I was a boxer.
So I had no choice other than fight. and uh helped my family get out of the situation I was at and that was it. Frank Garcia joining us. Speaking of family, before you go, your father, Henry, has trained you since you were young. Like, anybody who follows this sport knows that with fathers and sons, man, when it's good, it's great.
It can be awesome. But we've also seen too many examples where when it's not good, it's not good at all. And let me ask you something. Like, if something happens in life or in business and it doesn't go well, you can lean on your family if you have a good relationship with your family. But if you're in a family business and things don't go well, then how do you deal with it?
I think that we've been doing this for so long. We've went through a lot of situations and a lot of disagreements, and then you kind of learn from that. As long as You know, whoever you're working with, whether it's your dad or whoever, as long as you're not overly sensitive, you should be able to work out any situation as professionals and somebody that has a job to do. I think that's the good synergy me and my dad have. We don't really get emotional too much.
We kind of just look at what it is and make the best decision we think is the right one. You know, that's what made me and my relationship with my dad work. We're thinkers, and we just kind of move in that flow. We just let things flow and let things evolve in the right time. I like it.
Ryan, one last thought. You've been through a few things now, and it seems like you're in a great headspace, dude. You seem like you're in a really good headspace. Like you're ready to go mentally, you're ready to go physically. You went through a period where you sought treatment for alcohol use a few years ago.
As you continue to prioritize your sobriety, how has your life changed? Oh, I mean, it's changed amazing. You know, you're able to make clearer decisions, you're able to. see things uh for what they are, you know, sometimes like any type of stimulant, it could ma you know, uh mess up your judge of thinking.
So I think making that decision and slowing things down. I mean, I'm not going to say that I'm sober as, you know, a monk or something. I don't know if monks are sober, but I will say that I don't indulge in the way that I was. And it's really helped my life to be at balance and at peace. And I just love being a true professional and just winning.
And I know if I keep doing that, I won't win.
So at the end of the day, you got to let go. Bro, I appreciate that. One last thought: what's it like to have the crown? I don't think any of us, I know none of us will ever know what it's like to walk around as the best of the best. I mean, the crown, it doesn't fit well for everybody.
How does it feel when you wear the crown? Walking around, you are the champion of the world. What's that like? Oh, man, I I just get the chill sometimes. I mean, it was a dream since I was seven years old.
I feel that I worked my ass off to get it. And I think that's what makes it That much better. It solidifies what I've done throughout my life and the sacrifices I made.
So I kind of wear it with strength and not with, like, oh, I don't know if I deserve it. I actually know I deserve it, and now I'm going to keep proving it every time I step in the ring. And that's coming up on Saturday night. Team Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Great matchup.

Jay Michael, 70-25, Ryan Garcia by knockout within eight. Ryan Garcia, actually, he didn't say it during the interview, but he's been on record as saying he's going to win by knockout within five.
Hey, look, I love that he said. Most, I don't wanna say most, a lot of fighters, when I ask that question, is it enough to win, or do you have to win a certain way? Most will say a win's a win. No, it's my job to win the fight. It's not my job to take a bunch of additional punishment or take unnecessary risks.

I'm here to give you violence and art. That was a really good interview. That was really good content. But that's what I meant when I said to him. I was kind of convoluted, I admit, the way I phrased it, but that's what I meant when I said: do you see yourself as a fighter?
pure and simple, or do you see yourself as more than that? That's a guy who understands the whole thing. I think that that's kind of a new breed athlete. That's somebody who would say to you, I understand the job. And the job is not just to keep my mind and body right.
That's a big part of the job, obviously. I need to live that fighter lifestyle, but there are other parts of the job. It's a business. I need to win. I need to win a certain way.
I need to entertain. I need to build out my brand. I need to create content. I need to understand social media. I need to understand that these things cannot get in the way of the main thing because I have to keep the main thing, the main thing, but I've got to give the people what they want.
That's what I mean. Like as an example, Floyd Mayweather. Floyd Mayweather He's one of the greatest fighters I've ever seen in my life. I mean, you could argue the goat on some level. An incredible fighter.
An incredible, incredibly Gifted fighter. And discipline, believe it or not, for all the problems he's had outside the ring, his dedication to craft. I'm not saying best guy ever, I'm saying one of the best fighters ever. But the only argument or issue I would have with Floyd was the way he won his fights. And Floyd was so gifted and so good with his feet.
And his hands and his defense. Floyd would go not only entire rounds without getting hit. Floyd would go entire fights without getting hurt. Floyd did not take unnecessary risks. Ever Why do you think he waited so long to fight Alvin's idol, Manny Pacquiao?
It's almost like he waited until he aged out because it was tactical. He wasn't nearly as dangerous.
So, Floyd's fights were boring because he was so good. He you you couldn't even hit the guy. He was so good defensively. What Ryan Garcia is saying is: hey, look, I know I gotta give them more than that. I need to give you a show.
I need to give you art and violence. I need to mess that dude's face up. I'm here to mess that dude's face up, is what he said. But he also said, Look, yes, I partied. There was a period in my life where I partied and it got away from me, and I partied too hard, and I've had to work on that, and I had to fix that.
Now he's like he said, I'm not like a monk. He goes, I don't know whether or not monks drink. But I've got it under control. And I'm very healthy mentally and physically. Even Tommy, I hate to give you up Tom.
Even Tom said, I'm not an enormous Fight fan? But that's really interesting. That's really good content. That would make me want to watch that fight.

Harbaugh got out of town one step ahead of the NCAA investigators.
His successor, well, he scored unfortunately off the field, and unfortunately, he wasn't with his wife.
So, this is what these people do. Hell, even Bacon faced with his overinflated balls think that his alma mater did Western Michigan wrong. You have nothing to be proud of if you had. any scruples, and that's a rhetorical question. You'd have handed the game over to Western Michigan first thing on Monday, but you're not going to do it.

That's why it was so hilarious that the Browns hired somebody named Monkin. And why initially I wanted to have lunch with the monkey. Lunch with a monkin. And that's why John ended his phone call by saying, I need to get on a bird. I'm going to have, you guessed it, lunch with the monkin.
Lunch with the monk. Monkey's monkeys, monkeys, monk. After he annihilated Michigan. John, did you really have a shirt about Ann? No, I am.
