Three internet sensations, guys. Tune into The Drive weekday afternoons, three to seven on WSJS. You are on a Monday drive, WSJS News Talk Sports for The Drive, where this week is both the start of Carolina Panthers training camp in Spartanburg and ACC Football Media Days. By the way, our show will be live from Uptown Charlotte for three days. It's live action, Tracy! Tomorrow? Yes!

Live action, Tracy! So that should be fun. However, the top news of the day actually is not football. Instead, it comes from college basketball.

And how about this? North Carolina and Kansas have agreed to a home-in-home in basketball that's going to begin an Allen Field House starting next year in 2024. This is incredible for the sport, because aside from the Final Four, when the sport goes from playing in arenas to massive football stadiums where 75,000 can watch in one sitting, Kansas and Carolina playing on campus is as large as college basketball can feel. And that's exactly the feeling you get whenever you're inside one of those two buildings.

I know because I've been to both places. When you're in Chapel Hill and you're walking up to the Dean Dome, you get that feel of big. You see it literally perched on top of that hill on Skipper Bowls Drive. And when you walk in, you just see how high those ceilings are and how many seats there are.

Eighteen, nineteen thousand in the building. When you go to Fog Allen Field House, the way it's nestled at the center of campus, and there's a statue of Dr. James Naismith who created the sport and the literal rules of basketball are in a Hall of Fame adjacent to the arena. And you have the old wooden seats there. It's what college basketball is. It's what's great about the sport. It's as big as it can feel. It's a different sensation than you feel when you're inside Cameron Indoor, for example.

Cameron is unique, nothing like it. Not rare, unique, but it's not how big college basketball can feel. You're talking about eight thousand seats in the building. Rupp Arena sure can feel big, but it's mostly it's a highly overrated atmosphere that you get in Big Blue Nation. W.D., I've got a lot of fans in Lexington, Big Blue Nation. We've heard that.

Huge fans of the show. But it's mind boggling when you start thinking about the history that North Carolina and Kansas shares. The history of Dean Smith going to Kansas and Larry Brown having gone to Carolina and Roy Williams having a Hall of Fame basketball coaching career at Kansas and then having another Hall of Fame coaching career at his alma mater in Chapel Hill. They played in a national championship game in 1957 where Wilt Chamberlain's going up against Lenny Rosenblue. And they played in one two years ago where Hubert Davis is on the sideline during a media timeout yelling at Tracy Wolfson.

Yes, it's live action, Tracy. So there's a lot of history, but this is new. Regardless of how long these schools have been intertwined with each other, in spite of that, Kansas has never played a basketball game at the University of North Carolina. They've never been to Chapel Hill. Never going to Carmichael, never going to the Smith Center, they've never done so. And that's going to change in 2025.

How special that's going to be. North Carolina is going to Lawrence. The only time North Carolina's ever played Kansas on campus in Lawrence was 1960. You want to know how long ago that was?

That was a year before Dean Smith became the head coach of the Tar Heels. So this is new. This is special.

This is historic. This is as big as college basketball can feel. And we need this in college basketball.

We need these home and homes. It's a critique of the sport and it's a good one that November and December doesn't really feel like it matters much anymore. The big games are in these sterilized NBA environments, which is counterintuitive.

Well, if it's going to feel like the NBA, why not just watch the NBA? What's great about college sports is campus, is Lawrence, is Chapel Hill. So having these types of programs play each other on campus, it's a cool deal. It's something that Mark Few and John Calipari understood when they scheduled a home and home with each other. It's something that John Shire understands when he scheduled a home and home that starts this year with Arizona. We need more of this to make November and December feel bigger for a sport that we all love.

North Carolina facing Kansas. Excellent, excellent news. On Twitter at WSJS radio, if you want in on today's show, that's where we're streaming video. In addition to YouTube and Twitch, Will Dalton, the executive producer of this show. W.D., how much have you found yourself thinking about Oppenheimer since we watched it Friday night in IMAX? Literally all weekend long. I've been looking at Oppenheimer videos.

YouTube, going through the history. Did you really know Albert Einstein? What's the deal? By the way, did you know? Well, I might spoil something. No, no, no. No spoilers on this show.

I'll ask you in the break. No, no, no. We're not.

We're not doing that. But it's all I thought about this weekend. I even thought about going to see it again. I probably will end up doing so. By the way, Jake Delome later this hour is going to be our guest. He'll be here in about a half hour.

So make sure you're around for that. Speaking of Jake, Carolina Panthers vets will report to training camp starting tomorrow. And believe it or not, there are more storylines surrounding this team other than Bryce Young. Sure, he's the number one pick. He plays quarterback.

So a lot of the oxygen. He will suck a lot of the oxygen out of the room when it comes to Panthers conversation. But I think the guys he's throwing the ball to just as fascinating as Bryce himself. Especially when you consider Carolina had to give up one of the 10 best receivers in the league in order to get Bryce. There's a lot going on in the receiver room. And it's pretty clear the way they plan to replace D.J.

Moore is by committee. Let's just go through the list of pass catchers that they've added this offseason. Adam Thielen, D.J. Chart, Jonathan Mingo in the draft, plus Miles Sanders can catch the ball out of the backfield. Hayden Hurst is an addition at tight end. That's a lot of names. That's how Carolina plans to replace D.J. And then you got two guys who are wildcards like that next group has a lot to prove.

Laviska Chenault. Great potential there. There have been comparisons. Frank Reich was even one of the guys to speak on it that he could have a Deebo Samuel-like impact. And if you don't think that's realistic, well, they both were second round picks. And when you look at Laviska Chenault's numbers he put up in Jacksonville prior to arriving literally a week before the season started a year ago with no real opportunity to have the playbook molded around him or to learn the playbook properly. There is some potential for that being the case that could hold up when you look at the numbers that he had in Jacksonville his first few years side by side with the numbers that Deebo Samuel put up with San Francisco.

So there's some potential there. And then there's Terrace Marshall Jr. who showed some flashes last year. Remember, he was a second round pick a couple of years ago. Some felt like he might be a bus going into last year after Matt Ruhle was fired.

Oh, it seems like this might not be a coincidence. Terrace Marshall started to show those flashes. You're now pairing him with an offensive minded staff that can be creative, that can do a lot of things that Matt Ruhle can't or Ben McAdoo can't. All due respect to Ben McAdoo, the offensive coordinator. There are just some things that you can do with this staff with him to fully maximize a guy who had a first round grade attached to him just a couple years ago and was taken in round two by Carolina.

Those are some interesting guys. There's going to be at least one good wide receiver who gets cut by the Panthers. When you look at the position, they also got Shy Smith. They've also got Damir Byrd who they brought back. He's got a little ass!

According to Ron Rivera. Oh, that's who that was? That guy. CJ Saunders. That seems to be your kickoff and punt return specialist. Do you prioritize that so much if he's not going to be one of the receivers catching passes and keeping him on the 53 man roster? Derek Wright was a great story during OTAs. So it seems to me you've got four guys fighting for two spots and maybe three fighting for one if CJ Saunders is your designated kickoff return and punt return guy.

Shy Smith might not make this team and that's not really a slight to Shy Smith. It's there are a lot of dudes, a lot of bodies that are in that room right now. So the receivers, for all the attention that Bryce Young's receiving and rightfully so, we get why that is.

That is a fascinating storyline. What's going on with the receivers. I think the sports world knows when the six man at Tar Heel basketball is set to come on the show.

Because we got not one, not two, or I guess it would be two. We have two Tar Heel headlines that dropped today that are commanding the headlines around here where North Carolina, South Carolina is going to be the college game day site for week one in Charlotte. It's the first time college game day will be broadcast from a North Carolina game since 2010 when they opened the season against LSU in Atlanta. And then with Carolina basketball, for the first time ever, Kansas will be visiting Chapel Hill for a game in 2025. And it's a home and home that will start in Lawrence, Kansas next year in 2024. The Tar Heels haven't been there since 1960, which was the year before Dean Smith became the coach in Chapel Hill, became the head coach.

So kind of crazy when you consider that history. Looking at the Carolina piece of this, Allen Fieldhouse is a special place. That's a place that you need to go if you're a basketball fan. Do you have sports bucket list items like places you need to go that you haven't been before?

Oh, absolutely. And Allen Fieldhouse is definitely on that list. Like I want to go there and I want to go to a game where we aren't playing the Tar Heels so that I can be fully invested in the Jayhawk culture because my wife is a huge Kansas Jayhawk fan being she's from Kansas City.

So I want to go in there and I want to sing like I want to go and experience that. Going for the first time being against my Tar Heels is going to be something that's going to have me extremely extremely nauseous, to say the least. Do you think that your first experience at Cameron earlier this year, the fact that the Tar Heels were the opponent, may just struggle to enjoy that experience? It was awkward that Duke Carolina came in.

I don't know. It was very awkward. It was very interesting. The seats that I was in, I was very, very high up in Cameron. I really wish that I would have very selfishly been a little bit closer.

I felt like I could have affected the game a little bit more, but it was interesting, man. Like you think that the entire Cameron indoor stadium or Hansborough indoor stadium, however you like to call it, you would think that the energy that the Cameron Crazies has is the energy throughout the entire building. All the fans, upstairs, downstairs, but it's not the case. The Cameron Crazies, who you see on television, they're legit going crazy. But the rest of Cameron indoor stadium is not as vivacious as the Cameron Crazy section. So I was a little bit, I wasn't as impressed as I thought I would have been. And this is no shade.

I just wasn't as impressed as I thought I would have been in Cameron. All right, let's get to grammar school. We've got a lot for us to do. I want to talk movies with you in a bit.

First, let's go to grammar school. All right, let's try heritage hardwood floors. Fantastic. Beautiful. Great. Like heritage hardwood floors to hold niggas down when it comes to flooring.

They have no ceiling. I have a caustic question for you before we get to some of the questions you'll have for me. And we have disturbed and slightly stupid tickets to give away if you would like to be bribed in order. And you get, it's just the attempt.

Like you don't even have to get it right. If you're willing to help me out with the grammar school work, yes, you will. You can go to one of those shows. They're going to be disturbed is going to be in Charlotte a week from the day. They're going to be in Raleigh two weeks from the day.

Your choice of either of those shows, not this Saturday, but next Saturday, slightly stupid is going to be in Raleigh. Okay. I got a caustic question for you. Who's slightly stupid.

I'm just kidding. How about you tell me the name of the team that's on my cap. This major league baseball team. For those who are watching on the stream, I'll take the cap off to help. Here we go.

I got the cap here. It's my favorite baseball team. Oh, the Orioles, the Baltimore Orioles.

Yeah. There you go for Josh. Someone who doesn't follow baseball.

I mean, I'm not a freaking sap, Josh Graham. That is true where I can't tell you how many times I feel incredibly white, like incredibly caustic. When I walk up to someone who has an Oriole cap or like a hockey logo on a flat bill cap and I ask if they like the team and 90% of the time they say, nah, I just like the hat. I just like the color. It makes me feel so white every single time that happens.

Yeah. What's strange is I always argue or debate back with people with Duke hats and in North Carolina, if I see somebody with a Duke hat and I say something, there's always some back and forth banter. Today I was walking down peach tree down here in Atlanta, Georgia. I see a guy on a Duke hat. I give him some trash about it. And he just sort of looks at me with an angry face and keeps walking. I'm like, is this because you're a freaking Georgian Duke fan? Like what is that?

That was so weird. Okay. Let's get this thing started. Earlier in the imaging, you said I'm going to put one in the air. I asked you that back in January. So today is a review session, Josh Graham.

A review session. What does it mean, Josh Graham, if I say that my dogs are in the kennel. My dogs are in the kennel. Free my dogs in the kennel.

What am I saying? My dogs are in the kennel. Yep. Three, three, six, seven, seven, seven, one, 600. I think, I think this is an easy one. It should, because it's a review. I think that means that your, your friends are in jail.

My dogs are in the kennel. Is that your final answer? Yeah. That's correct. That is correct. There we go. That's it. I'm just seeing if you've learned anything, Josh Graham. Are you ready for your second? I don't remember that one.

Being a word, but I do remember, I guess it just like made an impact on my psyche where I remembered it where I guess there was some recall there, which is good. It's growth. What's the second one? Exactly. It's super growth.

I'm trying to make sure these things are, are printing. Second, what does it mean, Josh Graham? If I say I beat those charges up like Rocky, I beat those charges up like Rocky. I beat those charges up like Rocky. Yes.

Um, does it have to be said that way? Verbatim. I beat those charges up like Rocky. Not hard. Not hard. Well, speak for yourself. Not hard.

I just did. Like anytime I say, well, everybody's seen that movie. You always tend to say, well, I have it. So if it's to the eye of the purveyor here, you know, I think I beat those charges up like Rocky just means that you, um, one, your case, like you had like a case against you dropped. You won. You were victorious.

I beat those charges up like Rocky. Is that your final answer? Yeah.

That is correct. Okay. Okay. Beat the feds. Beat the case.

You're doggone right. Beat them charges up like Rocky. Boom. All right. Have you ever beat the charges? Have you ever beat the charges up like Rocky?

Yes, I have. As a matter of fact, but that's a whole nother show. Thank you. Next show.

Yeah. This is musical. Can you please fade down the music? W D. Okay. Here we go. Here we go. Three for three. Let's go. Let's go. Again.

I feel like this is reviewed because I feel like we've had this song before, but this should still be very easy for you to go three for three. Okay. Who did DMX say was going to make him go all out and lose his mind? Y'all.

W D. That is correct. I got nervous because I heard I didn't hear the L on those way. Is it going to be y'all?

Is it going to be y'all? Made me lose my mind. I love this song.

Gets me hype every single time. Absolutely. Okay. I wanted to get to movies really quickly with you before we let you out here.

Okay. Because you earlier today, see a lot of people have been talking about movies. I hear people on both sides of the political spectrum talking about this movie, Sound of Freedom.

I hear obviously Barbie Heimer, Barbie and Oppenheimer people are going to see. It made $233 million, $236 million over the weekend, fourth largest box office weekend for two movies ever. You had Mission Impossible last week that a lot of people were talking about because of Cruz in that context. You were not recommending I see any of those. It was another movie that you suggested to me earlier today. What movie are you recommending to the audience that maybe is not on their radar screen?

Jamie Foxx movie, They Cloned Tyrone. And a lot of and a lot of people are saying it's like a modern day urban version of Pulp Fiction. Wow. Whoa. It's good. Yeah, it's got one of those joints where you really don't understand the tie-in until the very last scene when the credits are rolling.

Whoa. Have you seen Pulp Fiction? Have I seen Pulp Fiction? Yeah. I think I've seen it, but it isn't one that I think I saw. I was locked in enough to really remember it. So I just say no. I feel like my eyes have seen it.

Let's do Sammy Robey or something. I feel like I've seen parts and bits and pieces, but not well enough to tell you about it. W.D. has seen Pulp Fiction. Darn right I have.

Just like I've made strides in grammar school. Tasty burger. W.D. Wow. Dropping references.

That is a tasty burger. Making references. He's dunking on people. It's amazing.

Just flexing, flexing a little bit. I like it. I've been very proud of that. You still haven't seen The Big Lebowski either as well, B.

Dot, haven't you? That's a movie that it seems that white people really like, but none of my black friends have seen Big Lebowski or care much about it. I've never seen The Big Lebowski ever again. OK, so I'm going to watch this movie.

I'll make it an assignment. I need to see Barbie still, but I'm going to go see Barbie, maybe Oppenheimer again. I want to go see that again, even though it's three hours long. And I need to see what's the Tyrone movie called again with Jamie Foxx?

I'm sorry. It's called They Cloned Tyrone. They Cloned Tyrone on Netflix. Jamie Foxx is in it. It's like one of those movies is one that is a conspiracy theory. Is this really going on?

Of course, it isn't going on. Good movie. I'm in.

I'm all in. Just like I think I sold you on Oppenheimer. Yeah, I'm interested in Oppenheimer. Not so much in Barbie movie anymore. I heard the Barbie movie shot. I want to see Oppenheimer.

I've heard mixed reviews on Barbie, so I need to see it just so I can have my own opinion on it. Next time we visit with you next week, it sounds like we'll have a lot of things to talk about. That part. Dot, love you, bro. Thanks for doing this.

Love you. Be good, guys. When you take a look at week one, there aren't a lot of great games on that first Saturday, but one game that does stand out is North Carolina, South Carolina and Charlotte. And that's where College Game Day should be to open the season. The SEC powerhouses, they're all playing cupcakes. Plus, if there was a top SEC game in week one, that game would likely be broadcast on CBS. The Big Ten's exclusively out of the Disney business. North Carolina, South Carolina, in Charlotte. That's where I think College Game Day should be.

That's where I think they're going to be. What a way to start a year for the SEC. We told you that was about a month ago that we looked at the week one schedule and forecasted that the headline that dropped today would be a reality to kick off the college football season.

Reece Davis, Lee Corso, Pat McAfee, Kirk Herbstreet, where Sarah Bradford calls him Kirk Herbstreet. They will all be broadcasting. And Desmond Howard, who could forget about Desmond, will be broadcasting from Bank of America Stadium ahead of North Carolina and South Carolina.

And it's the right choice for some of the reasons that I outlined there. You have a bunch of cupcake games that the SEC is playing. Georgia is facing UT Martin. You have Alabama playing.

Nobody. LSU is facing Florida State, and that would be the game that they would go to highlight. But that's on a Sunday night that they're playing. It's Labor Day weekend, so you have that rollout of Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, since there aren't any NFL games at that point. So you're not going to have college game day on Saturday on campus or at a stadium that isn't going to be playing a game until that next night.

That doesn't make a lot of sense. If there was a top SEC game, it would be on CBS. ESPN doesn't want to promote those Big Ten games because the Big Ten is out of the ESPN and ABC business. This is the first time in our lifetimes that that's happened, that there aren't any Big Ten football games on ESPN since the network launched in 1979. Essentially, they were carrying Big Ten games. So I doubt they're going to want to promote Indiana, Ohio State on CBS or Penn State, West Virginia on NBC that night. North Carolina, South Carolina was already getting the primetime treatment on ABC.

So it makes all the sense in the world that this is the game you showcase. South Carolina got hot towards the end of last year, knocking off Tennessee and knocking off Clemson. And North Carolina has the quarterback that everyone's talking about being a top five caliber pick. North Carolina, South Carolina, the right choice for ESPN. Jake Delome, he's going to join us in about 10 minutes. Carolina Panthers legend the day before training camp starts in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Tomorrow morning, as the Panthers are checking in to Wofford, Jim Phillips, he's going to kick off ACC Football Media Days by holding an hour long press conference at 930 tomorrow morning.

At the end of the day, Jeff. And when he does, there are three major issues he's going to have to address. Number one being what's become the obvious topic, the legal situation at Northwestern. Just today, a former volleyball player filed another lawsuit against those in leadership at Northwestern. It hasn't been reported whether or not the focus of her lawsuit will be on past administration, like one of the lawsuits were focused on Jim Phillips, who was named as the defendant.

But there's a chance that could be the case. He is the defendant in at least one of these suits, which led to Phillips and the ACC putting out a statement last week where he pretty forcefully said, anybody who thinks that I condoned hazing activities at Northwestern is mistaken, and I will forcefully push back on that. Okay, we'll see what that looks like outside of a release tomorrow, when that question is going to be asked of him. Falling back on his statement, I think would be a mistake. Falling back and saying, you know, it's an ongoing legal matter. I'm not going to talk about it.

I don't want to comment. That would be a mistake, because what the ACC needs from this right now, what they need from Jim Phillips is leadership. They need somebody who is going to be forceful, or at least as forceful as he was in that release. But to be fair, he is a defendant in a lawsuit that seems to be pretty serious, and he is limited in what he can say with that.

So the way he chooses to handle that topic will be fascinating tomorrow. Television and revenue, these two things are linked. Partnering with the CW, we haven't heard from Jim Phillips since that happened. Don't think that's going to be a huge help when it comes to picking up revenue for the ACC, but it can't be worse than being attached to Zombie Raycom and Valley Sports and RSNs that are bankrupt. So that seems to be a plus for the ACC.

Interested in some of the details on that. Since spring meetings, which was the last time we heard from Jim Phillips, the revenue model that was discussed quite a bit there, that is going to incentivize performance rather than just splitting it all down the middle 15 separate ways, or 14 separate ways, Notre Dame just getting partial revenue distribution. That's going to change now.

And this is the first time we've heard him, we're going to hear from him since that actually happened. It seems to me they're making strides financially. Jim Phillips is doing what he set out to do. I'm going to figure out ways for our members to make more from a revenue perspective, but it's just not under this TV deal. The grant of rights is a blessing and a curse. The blessing is it goes so far back to 2036, nobody can leave.

That's the plus. You're not going to get poached by the SEC or the Big Ten for another decade. But the negative is, while that's happening, the SEC and the Big Ten are going to lap you financially.

And there's nothing really you can do about that. You can make strides, but is it going to be enough to satisfy a Florida State or to satisfy a Clemson or a Miami? Probably the answer to that question is no, if they see a path to get to one of those top two big conferences.

So television and revenue, that goes without saying. The last one is kind of on the horizon. I say the landscape in 2024 is going to be a topic.

And here's what I mean. Think about all the changes that we're going to see in college football into college sports, starting at about this time a year from now. That's when UCLA and USC will officially join the Big Ten. That's when Texas and Oklahoma will officially join the SEC. That's when the 12-team playoff is going to begin.

Those are obviously all pressing topics. But most pressing to the ACC is something that was probably overlooked a bit this offseason, the announcement that Notre Dame's long-time AD and one of the most powerful people in college sports, Jack Swarbrick, is going to step down after this athletic season. And he will be replaced by one of the top executives at NBC Sports. So you have Jack Swarbrick stepping down, a TV exec stepping in, and the ACC's top goal and mission from a Notre Dame guy and Jen Phillips, who has a lot of ties to that place, is to try and get Notre Dame to join the league, which they're contractually obligated to do so. If they choose to join a conference, it has to be the ACC up until 2036. That is one of the top things on the agenda, is trying to figure out a way to convince them to join. And a lot of that is going to be depending on TV revenue.

So you could see how a lot of these things are linked. Those are the big issues Jim Phillips is going to have to address tomorrow morning at ACC Media Days, where again, we're going to be broadcasting from in Uptown Charlotte tomorrow, Wednesday, and on Thursday. You know our next guest for being the legendary Carolina Panthers quarterback and the dazzling analyst for the Panthers Radio Network.

That's how you know. We know him as being the Bojangles' defender of the fresh biscuit from back in the day. It's, of course, Jake the Loam that's joining us. And Jake, let's actually start there.

We know Bryce Young stepping into big shoes at quarterback, but how concerned are you that he's going to be able to operate in the big shoes at quarterback? Well, we're going to start there. We're going to start there. We're going to be able to operate in the big shadow you cast in terms of being a Bojangles' spokesman now that he's followed in your footsteps in that regard. Man, I'm excited he's doing that.

Bojangles was very creative when we came up with those ads, or should I say when they came up and you know, the spoofs and whatnot. And I love doing it. I had fun doing it.

I laughed. I wasn't afraid of myself. And certainly the locker room was not afraid to tease me about it.

But I think they were just jealous. And so it was a lot of fun doing those and they still get brought up from time to time. Yeah, the players, the vets report to Spartanburg starting tomorrow. Bryce Young among the rookies that reported for orientation over the weekend. As a player, does training camp at Spartanburg and staying in the dorms at Wofford, the whole experience, does that get, does that get used to what do you remember about camp? No, I loved it. I mean, listen, we were there for almost a month.

And, and honestly, most of my life, the good majority of my life, even from high school on, I mean, I was 14 years old, I didn't, I didn't know the month of August, the month of August didn't exist. That was strictly camp to me. So I love camping. I was probably one of the ones that were a little different. I didn't bang on every play like the most of the other guys do. But I like getting away.

It's strictly football. And it's you really truly, you develop your identity of your team at training camp and being in the dorms. And yes, it does get a little bit long. And certainly they'll get a little monotonous. And sure, there's going to be a fight or two at practice.

But that's part of it. And I miss camp. I love camp.

I enjoyed it. And I'm glad the Panthers are still able to just get away. I know it's not as long, but Wofford is such a fantastic setup. The fields are immaculate that you practice on.

What has been done over the years, the money that Mr. Richardson I know put into the facilities and things of that nature and the dormitories. It's, it's something about getting away, I just truly believe as a team, you get away and you really start to develop that identity that you're going to have. Were you ever one of those? I know you were a fiery guy, Jake, were you ever one of those that got into the fights?

Oh, gosh, no. I mean, when somebody started out, we were just back up and watch. And then it was almost a running joke, because it's hot, everybody's tired. And I used to laugh right after the ones that would do the pushing and shoving, because you're punching somebody with a helmet on.

I mean, what good is that? And then you have to get back in the huddle and they can't breathe. I think that was the funniest part to me.

Because if it was the offensive player, I'd be like, was that worth it? You're about ready to die. We have to go run another play. You know, so I used to think it was kind of funny. But, uh, you know, both things happen. And, you know, you just kind of, you just roll with it.

Darn it, I was expecting you to say, yeah, I got into a fight, but they had to have the helmet off. And also, I've watched Bull Durham back in the day, and Kevin Costner's advice is never throw any punches with your pitching hand, or I guess in your case, would be that right hand that's made you millions. Jake Delone with us here, Panthers Radio Network, Panthers Hall of Honor inductee. I'll also throw in their defender of the Bojangles Fresh Biscuit as well. If I'm taking Bryce Young off of the board as a topic, what storyline are you most interested to follow, most excited to follow heading into camp regarding this team? Um, I think the biggest thing is, and certainly I'm probably going to stay on the offensive side of the football.

Maybe two things. One thing, I want to see Jeremy Chin. I want to see what they have in store for him. That's something that I truly felt anytime he was closer to the football. That's where I thought he was best.

And certainly I thought last year, maybe he was a little too far away from the football on the back end. I want to see him be near the line of scrimmage, so to speak. I want to see him blitzing.

I just, I think he's such a weapon just because his physical kind of presence and stature and how he can run and hit. And that's what I want to see. I want to see how that chest beat kind of plays in this defense. And on the offensive side of the ball, the offensive line was such a bright spot last year. And Austin Corbett, I'm not so sure when he'll be back, you know, uh, am I hopeful early in the season?

Maybe, but I'm not so sure that's going to be the case just yet. So how does that all mix of lines gel and, and really, and truly you lose the number one receiver in DJ who's going to be that guy to step up. I think we have a ton of really good pieces.

Um, and kind of word that I've, I've kind of caught away in is Adam feeling. I think it's been a pleasant, I don't even want to say surprise, but the word that I'm kind of hearing is that he's not an afterthought. You know, it's not like somebody that, Hey, yeah, he was really good and he'll show these guys the way, but we know he's lost a step.

I haven't heard that at all. Matter of fact, I've heard the other way around, like this guy's really got some juice left. So I think that's what I'm excited about seeing a healthy DJ chart, Terrace Marshall. Can he continue to build on, uh, what he did and Levisca Chanel? That's one that I think he's, uh, he's another, he's the chess piece on offense. I'm, I'm anxious to see what he can do with the football team.

Glad you brought up the offensive line with Austin Corbett. That's a storyline that Frank Reich has brought up a few times saying he's probably not going to be ready for the start of the season, but one of the guys they drafted who potentially could have been a replacement in a short term context, Chandler Zavala named this weekend onto the, uh, he was put onto the pup list. So we don't quite know when he's going to be available to the team. And obviously he's a rookie too.

So that's difficult as well. Everybody expected Julius peppers to be into the hall of honor. We expect him to be a first ballot hall of Famer and being enshrined at this time a year from now moose and Muhammad though was, I'll say it a pleasant surprise as the next guy, given how many other greats still haven't gotten in, how pleased were you to learn moose? We'll be joining you in the hall of honor this year. Oh, very good for moose.

You know, I truly felt that he probably, you know, he probably should have gone in before me when the initial class came out. I, uh, I just thought moose was a, um, was a great Carolina Panther and a great, great wide receiver. And, uh, I got him for a couple of years, about year seven or eight for moose. And then he signed a big deal with Chicago and then he was able to come back and kind of finish up, uh, his career in Carolina and just kind of what he brought.

And, um, I truly believe that I think Steve Smith will say the same thing. They brought out the best in each other. I think Steve kind of made moose, uh, kind of hit another gear. And I know for a fact, Steve learned so much about watching moose and moose took care of his body. By the time I had gotten there, moose that had hamstring issues, and then he kind of really started to take care of his body extremely well. Um, and just his blocking his presence, the demeanor that he brought day in and day out. Um, and I think that's something that permeated throughout our football team. Certainly John Fox wanted to run the football and be that physical defense and hard nose and Hussein Muhammad was ideal for that. Um, and not only that, he could catch a football and score also just very aggressive, uh, big strong hands, you know, like vice grip type hands.

So he was someone that really set the tone for us offensively just because of his physical nature and presence. What do you imagine the spectacle is going to be like when the Jets are in Spartanburg for a week? Aaron Rodgers is on the same field as Bryce Young for a week. Hard knocks cameras are going to be in Spartanburg for a week. What do you imagine that scene is going to be? Well, hopefully it's not a lot of fluff to be honest with you. And there's a lot of good work.

I'm looking forward to it. I'll be down there for those practices and, uh, yeah, there'll be cameras. But, um, I think the thing about it is that these practices have kind of almost become almost, it seems like almost more important than preseason games. That's where the starters get a ton of reps. And I know the Jets have a quality quality defense, uh, all three levels. They have really good players. And, uh, from Quinnen Williams, uh, to CJ Mosley as, as one of their backers and certainly saw Starner on the back end. That's just from each level of their defense. So I'm anxious to watch the Panther offense, go against them, um, and, and see what they do.

And certainly it won't be live, but you'll get a very good test. And then on the, on the flip side, listen, it's Aaron Rodgers. We know he's kind of seems rejuvenated. Uh, they do have a ton of talent, uh, on the, on the jets, the office of law is a question mark, but receiver wise, Garrett Wilson is being talked about in almost reverential terms to be quite honest. So I'm anxious to watch them and see how we do defensively against them. And I understand it's just a practice, but you'll have a couple of weeks in the camp already. You'll start to get the dog days of camp, and then everything's going to get ramped up for these couple of practices that will go against them. And, and you kind of get a baseline, you get a test of your football team. And that's what I'm excited about to see.

Jake the loan. Great to have you on. Thanks for spending the time. Enjoy camp and we'll see you when the season starts. Thanks for doing this. My pleasure, man.

Have a great day. We've got tickets to not one show, but two shows that we're giving away right now, slightly stupid is going to be in Raleigh, not this weekend, but next weekend. This is Saturday, August 5th reggaeton music.

It's a vibe during the summer. Usually those are very fun concerts to go to disturbed. Meanwhile, is going to be in Charlotte a week from today or the following week in Raleigh, they're going to be in Charlotte a week from today in Raleigh, the week after that, a couple of Monday shows, the winner gets to pick the city three, three, six, seven, seven, seven one 600. If you'd like to go to one of those two shows, all you have to do is call in and tell us something good a little bit earlier than usual, but it's an unusual week. Given the fact we're going to be at ACC kickoff tomorrow, Wednesday and on Thursday, but we all could use a Monday pick me up.

So how about a Monday edition of weekly positivity? Oh, yeah. Yeah. I am become death destroyer of world.

Oppenheimer still. Wow. Hi, Will. Hi, Josh. You want to start by telling me something good?

I will. I played a little tennis this morning early. How early? Probably talking around like eight o'clock ish.

Who was your competition? I got a buddy of mine lives out in Virginia and his mom lives down this way. So sometimes he'll come down to visit.

And when he comes, we, we play tennis together. How did the match go? Oh, I lost.

How badly? Six to four. So I was in there. I was close. So you played one set? We played a set. It was all I had time for, but it was good to start my day with some tennis. Cause I enjoy it. Good. Wow. There's so much good going on with me.

My sister's getting married on Saturday. That's good. Here comes the pride. And also the Orioles are first place in the AL East by a couple of games, beat the Rays three out of four at the drop. So that's all good, but let's go to Scott and Clemens. 336-777-1600 if you'd like to chime in and win tickets to see Disturbed or Slightly Stupid. Hi Scott. Hi. How we doing, sir? Oh, I'm doing good. Tell me something good with you. Well, actually I just found out that I'm possibly getting some free concert tickets.

That's about as good as I think it can get for me. You see, you have the options. You could go to Slightly Stupid next week or Disturbed next week or Disturbed the week after that, depending on what show you'd like to like. What show are you thinking about going to? I guess I'm going to have to do Slightly Stupid. I'm more of a metal head as you can hear from my tone of voice, but Slightly Stupid. That'll be a fun show.

Oh, I never, I always wanted to see Slightly Stupid 311 Sublime. Yeah. So this is bucket list trip I'm marking off. That is very good. Well, we're going to help you out with that.

So that's going to be good. I appreciate you giving us a call. There goes Scott in Clemens and, you know, he earned some points in terms of knowing the different types of bands that fall in that genre. 311, very similar.

W.D., are you familiar with 311 or Slightly Stupid's work? I'm not. That's, I'm not really. Oh, I think there was something else I was supposed to say to that.

Well, there you go. I never want you to hear. I never want to hear you say the words.

I don't know what that is. Okay. I just don't want to hear it. I'm so sick of hearing it. I'm sorry. There you go.

Especially when you have the Steve Forbes drop that allows for you a chance to convey that expression or convey that thought if you had it. Oh, I'll tell you another thing that was good. I went to an ice cream stand Friday night before we went to the Oppenheimer movie with my wife.

Your wife. And it was Harry Potter themed. Wow. Yeah. What is that like?

Okay. So it was a long line and this is right off of Stratford. I think they only do it Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday during the summer. So I wish I remembered the name of the place off the top of my head, but I'm sure context clues you could figure it out on social media since it's Harry Potter products. And they had something called the Hermione Graham-ger, which is like a bunch of, it's graham cracker ice cream with some bits of Teddy Grahams inside.

A lot of Grahams. Yeah. And it was good. Sarah Bradford got the dough B. So it's like cookie dough B. That's what I would have got. There's some other clever names too. You don't know what else was on the menu.

How do you know what you would get? Because I love cookie dough. Wow. Have you seen the Harry Potter movies? Well.

Have you read the books? Well. Really?

Yeah. None of the, there are seven of them. You've seen none of these movies?

Well, that's, that's really surprising. I spent all my time on star Wars. I hadn't even seen the Lord of the rings till a year ago, but you, you at least see it. You probably seen all these Marvel movies too. Have you not? Some of them, not all of them, but some you strike me as a franchise guy that would consume all the Harry Potter movies.

Sarah Bradford, this is where I go. I outsource things to you. If you're watching, if you're watching or listening to this, uh, how do we fix this is I'm not going to make WD watch eight movies. I'm not going to do that, but is there one that would capture the Harry Potter experience? Is there one movie we could do? I don't know.

At any rate, you would absolutely have me watch eight movies. No, I want to do that. That's been weekly positivity. Genuinely surprised by that. Yeah. You don't surprise me much anymore, but genuinely surprised by that.
