Song of Solomon 7:9 The Goodness of The Awakening Bear

This is the Truth Network. Hidden Treasures of the Song of Songs, which is Solomon's. Oh, the goodness of the Teth verse.

The Teth verse is the ninth verse in the seventh chapter. I'm going to tell you, oh, this is good. Really, really, really good. And so we'll just jump right into it. I'll jump into it by actually telling you the story of, you know, what my brother told me about his salvation experience. It started off with, you know, they were coming to this boot camp and he and his grandson took the journey actually from Charlotte, Tennessee, down to Mocksville, North Carolina. And as they took off, his grandson, who was 16 by the name of Devon, said, boy, he really wanted to see a black bear.

He's never seen a bear. And my brother, interestingly, just kind of off the cuff, said, oh, we're going to see one as if he knew we were going to see one. And so, you know, they were definitely looking, had their eyes peeled for a bear as they headed to North Carolina. And then, you know, just miraculously, you know, God really came for my brother in this boot camp, as you may have heard me talk about in previous episodes, and he came under conviction. Well, that bear ends up being, you know, when he actually came under conviction, began to weep uncontrollably. They pulled over to the side of the road on the way back from Tennessee. And he, you know, they switched drivers.

And as they got back in the car and closed the door there, this bear goes across the highway in front of them, which is a recognition that God was there. And my brother also, a part of that was that he had heard his new name. And if you ever talked about our boot camps, you know, we have this new name talk, and it's really, really cool. When God gives you your new name, of course, you probably have lots, and we know there's going to be a different one you're probably going to get in Revelation when you get the white stone. But nonetheless, it's a wonderful thing to ask God, because He loves to praise you and is very much connected to this verse. God loves to give you something that tells you about your identity.

He just loves to. And, you know, at the boot camps, we do something called the covenant of silence, where people go out and listen for God, right? And so my brother had gone out and asked God his new name and listened and felt like he heard the word valiant, which is spectacular. And this morning, I started to dig into valiant at the same time as I was studying this verse, and they come together so beautifully. So let me describe this.

And then we'll go into it. So it said, I, excuse me, I'll begin again. And the roof of thy mouth is like the best wine for my beloved that goeth down sweetly, causing the lips of those that are asleep to speak. Well, you know, the roof of thy mouth, it's interesting that there's a word in Hebrew that is just specifically for that, that has to do with taste, right? And here again, this overarching theme of the Song of Solomon, the more I study it, the more I realize that Jesus is continually praising His church for how beautiful she is, because we have been attacked our whole life that we don't realize how beautiful we are.

And so He is coming after that. And now He's telling you that you have this spectacular taste. And you might even remember that in the fifth chapter, as we were, as the bride was describing Jesus, it says, His mouth is most sweet.

It's the same word that is right here, and it's actually interestingly the same description. And then it says thy mouth is like the best wine. And that word best right there is that word tav, you know, in the Bible, when God saw everything and thought that it was good. Well, you know, the best wine is that which God, right, did. And the idea of wine, as we've talked about throughout, it's such a common theme here, is this idea of this warm, loving, faithful, because it has everything to do with faith, that the word wine in Hebrew is two yuds and a nun. And those yuds are like the idea of light coming down, which is where you get the warmth, and then faith. And the idea is that, you know, there's this tremendous belief that comes as a result of this wine. And so what we're talking about here is that Jesus is loving to drink of the taste of your faith.

I mean, you know, the whole thing is about that. But more than that, because this one goes down sweetly, right? And you might even remember in the 119th Psalm, you know, how sweet are thy words to my taste.

Those are the exact same two words again. And he's talking about his words. And so as we use his words to go out, then it goes like that, right? And then here comes the really cool part of this verse, causing the lips that those were asleep to speak.

So here we are, for many of us, if you listen to this the day I record it, it is the day before Thanksgiving. And that idea of causing the lips to speak actually has to do with causing the lips to move, okay? And those lips move, and the root of that word that says move there, these dead lips that are now going to move, the root of that word is the same as the word bear. In other words, a bear, biblically, time and time and time again, is a valiant, and all these are going to come together.

See, my brother's name he heard was valiant. But a bear is a valiant creature in that it protects its home. Like time and again, a reference is in the Bible to how a she-bear will defend if her cubs are threatened in any way, shape, or form. In other words, I must protect this house. That's what valiant bears do, especially she-bears, mama bear, as the case would be. But the idea of that is that it's causing the lips of those that are dead actually to roar like a bear, like we must defend this house. And so when you see that idea, the word ends in a bet, and that idea of bet has to do with the house.

And so, you know, there's nothing like defending your house, and a bear understands that all too well. But the really cool thing is, is because, you know, God is just telling me this morning, because of my chance to speak into my brother's life as well as my friends speaking into my brother's life. What did we speak? His word. His word, right, goes down sweetly. Because we have it in our hearts, we get to share it, right? And as it comes over our mouths, then the people that hear it, it causes the dead lips of those who've been asleep, right?

Those who—not they, they weren't—you know, I love the word he says, that they were asleep. And now they're going to awake, and they're going to roar, because when you really think of the letter bet—and again, if you want to check it out, it's the second section in the 119th Psalm—there are there eight verses on the letter bet. And if you really look at those verses in order, you're going to see that it's the story of the prodigal son. Because bet has to do with house, and what if the prodigal son was trying to find his way home, okay?

How does a young man cleanse his way by taking heed? There too, according to thy word is the first one. But go on through all of them, and you'll see that it is literally what happened to the prodigal son after he repented, right?

So here was a dead one that, you know, in the case of the prodigal son, who came running back to the father's house. And as a result, right, he is now going to be valiant like a bear in so many different ways. As I've thought about my brother's life and the way he reflects God, he reflects him in the way that my brother has always protected his house.

It's absolutely beautiful, because as I thought about it, there couldn't be anybody that I know that's more valiant than my brother, because he's always, you know, that's just how that is. But think about what this verse is telling us, the goodness of this verse, right? That because of the words that, the taste that you have for God's Word. In other words, I know I'm preaching the choir, and I love that. In other words, all of you that are listening to this podcast and hearing this, you love the Word of God, and because that, he loves your taste. And as you have those words go over your mouth, right, they go down sweetly for those who are receiving them, and it causes them to not be asleep and begin to roar themselves like a bear on their way home, right? Like the prodigal, ready to eat some steak with dad. It's a spectacular, spectacular thing. And I, you know, myself have thought about this all morning, like, man, how beautiful a story did God choose to tell about my brother and the bear that went across in front of him? Because it was so much a picture of how valiant, really, when you think about it, God is for coming after his bride. Thank you for listening.
