Bible Wonders - Giving Birth To Darkness

Did you ever wonder? Did you ever wonder?

I do. Did you ever wonder? Why the sun always rises, but the stars never fall?

Why dry land is never satisfied by water? And why fire never says enough? Enough. Today on Bible Wonders, we're going to take a look at those fiery darts that come out of Satan's mouth, as it's described in Job 41, 19. It says, out of his mouth go burning lamps, and sparks of fire leap out. Well, as you look deeply at this verse, as I have been thinking about it, it's really, really cool, a couple of things that God is showing us here about evil. And yes, it's no doubt Satan is described, but unfortunately, often I find this evil in myself, and it's perhaps this that I am feeling God wants me to spot. So when it says out of his mouth, I mean, in Hebrew, it's clearly the mouth where this stuff's coming out.

It says go. It says out of the mouth go burning lamps, but that word go is quite significant, because it actually is the same word, the exact same word in Hebrew, as God used to describe Noah as he walked with God. That word walked is the same word that's translated go here, or Enoch, that walked with God. A few programs ago, we did a whole section on that word walk, which really has to do with God sharing his plans in his heart with Noah, or with Enoch as the case may be.

When you walk with God, he not only shares his plans, but he shares his heart. Well, here, unfortunately, you know, we're getting what's coming out of Satan's heart. And when you look at this, you might recall Matthew 15, 17 through 20, where Jesus is teaching on this very subject, and Jesus says, Do you not understand that whatsoever enter in at the mouth goes into the belly and cast out into drought? But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile the man, for out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, and blasphemies. These are the things that which defile a man, but to eat with unwashed hands, you know, devileth not a man. So, interesting, this little short verse here in Job is kind of been, you know, Jesus's commentary on it is that which we were talking about there in Matthew 15. If we look at this, that this stuff is coming out of Satan's heart, well, unfortunately, if we start this kind of stuff, we're coming out of our heart, which, if our Father is the devil. Even though we're saved, our flesh is still in this stuff, and we still can find ourselves doing these kind of things. So, when you look at that word go, you're literally walking with Satan, and you are sharing what's in his heart. And when it says burning lamps, again, that word might be better translated torches, because this is the same word that you might remember when Gideon, 300 men that God had picked to help defeat the Moabites. You know, they had the sword of the Lord and Gideon and all that.

Well, those pots that they broke, they were burning lamps that were underneath that, in other words, torches, that when the oxygen hit them, that they would come up and light things up. Well, yesterday we talked about, you know, that other passage, that other passage back in Matthew 6 22, where Jesus talked about if you had that light in you, that light was very, very dark. Well, these things are things that Satan is accusing.

He's bringing light, bad light. He's looking for evil. He's looking for ways to accuse you.

Or he's looking for things that will entrap you. Because as your mind or your heart goes towards these dark things, this dark light, well, that stuff gets stored up in your heart, and at some point in time, it comes out of your mouth. And when it does, it comes out as fiery darts. And unfortunately, quite often, I find myself saying things to either my wife or children or people that I dearly love that are clearly messages from Satan.

And so when I'm doing that, you know, putting them down or accusing them of things or their motives or judging them, all those things are coming out of a really bad place and they're really bad darkness. Now, here's the scariest part of the whole verse, as you really, really study this, is it says that these are sparks, which clearly are sparks, of fire that leap out. Well, that word leap might be better translated hatched or gave birth to.

So often that word is translated escape. But the idea is that when you are planting these fire bands or you're planting this kind of evil, you are literally giving birth to something that will multiply. You know, just like sow the wind, reap the whirlwind. Well, here you're sowing this darkness that you've received and now you're going to share it. And once you sow it, you've literally given birth to it and it will grow and grow and grow. So I'm hoping that as you look at this verse, Job 41 19, out of his mouth go burning torches and sparks are hatched or birthed. Right. And these sparks are that dark light that Jesus was talking about in Matthew 6 22. Let's make sure that we keep our eyes focused on God's glory, not on our glory or Satan's glory, because as we get that darkness in there, it will come out and we'll give birth to some evil. That's something I certainly would rather be giving birth to light.
