Live from the Car Care Studios, it's the CNC Auto Show. With your personal on-air and online automotive service advisors, Aaron Clements and John Ryan Mooney. So climb in, buckle up, and enjoy the ride on the CNC Auto Show. Alright, we do want to welcome you back to the CNC Auto Show.
We're here to share some information on ways to make your car, truck, or SUV safer to make it more dependable and to make it last longer. I'm Aaron Clements and John Ryan Mooney is off today. We are here to answer those questions. And along with that, we have a tech tip quiz, we want to share some holiday car tips, and we have two more guests to talk about the car clubs. We have everything that we need but you.
You can fix that by dialing 706-863-5800, Saturday mornings 805 to 10. And we want to start with a tech tip quiz. Now along with the fame and the glory, the winner will receive a prize package which contains the iAnswer, the CNC Auto Show tech tip quiz coffee mug. And also, this also contains a gift certificate. And this gift certificate is for a $25 gift card from O'Reilly Auto Parts. And O'Reilly Auto Parts has better parts, better prices every day, and we love O'Reilly Auto Parts.
They treat us very well. And one of the things that I like about O'Reilly Auto Parts is they have professionals ready to help you with any of your automotive questions that you might have. So remember, go to O'Reilly Auto Parts when you need information or parts.
Remember that if you answer this question, you'll receive that $25 gift card from O'Reilly Auto Parts. Susan and her husband went to a resort mountain area for the holidays. The city had a go-kart track. Susan's husband did something to her and the go-kart that she was driving that cost them $9,287.22.
What did Susan's husband do to the go-kart? And if you know the answer, you give us a call and that would put you in the winning seat, the possibility of winning the iAnswer detective quiz prize package and the $25 gift card. Okay, we have our next guest here. And this next guest is a longtime friend, Ernie Dinkins. Ernie is also a longtime member and past president of the Gas Car Club. And the Gas Car Club is a unique club because they have a lot of antique cars. They've been around for a long, long time and just filled with all types of vehicles that I see. Usually they're older vehicles, more antique cars, but you see Ford, Chevys, and just everything in between on there. Ernie, welcome to the C&C Auto Show. Thank you, sir and Karen, for inviting us down here today.
Oh, glad to. Tell us a little bit about the Gas Car Club. Gas Car, we call it antique cars, but I guess it's a lot of classic cars in there from the 50s and 60s and 70s. Gas Car was formed with a group from a few guys from Aiken and a few guys from Augusta in 1974. So we've been there for a while.
And that's where we got the name Gas Car, G-A-S-C-A-R, Georgia, South Carolina Auto Group. And we've been meeting every once a month at Fox Appliance Parts, second Tuesday of the month. And we have a meeting room right there. We do have a little business meeting when we do a program and we have refreshments. And there's a lot of information and knowledge around for people that want to help you and talk about your car.
And if you get up, they don't know. Usually they'll help you find out what's wrong with your car if you need help. And that's the reason I wanted to have this show here today is there's so many people that love cars, so many people that are some are interested in having an antique car. They might see one for sale somewhere. They're thinking about buying it. But they're wondering, well, one if it's a good deal, one if it's something that they would have the time to do. Well, joining a car club and getting to know the people in the club and then being able to discuss those type things with those other people that's in the club can save a huge amount of money, huge amount of time.
And not to mention you meet some really nice people while you're there. We got a lot of people collect. There's a lot of reasons why people collect cars, antique cars, classic cars. That's the car they learn to drive in. That was their first car. That was their first new car. And if you go to a car show, and I personally have a 57 Chevrolet, and somebody will come up there and talk about a 57 Chevrolet, about this is what I had. I learned to drive.
This is what I drove to high school in. And it's a lot of good people out there. And like you say, we do have a lot of good people in the group. And I call it a car club, but we do have a lot of little social events that do involve the women. And we got women that's got cars in the group too. Well, Ernie, one of the things that I see a lot of when they're getting together is all the car club people, when they're doing different things, they just seem to build a friendship over a long period of time and get to know each other really well. Well, Ernie, I've been in the club over 40 years, and some of my closest friends are my car club group. And I'll tell you an example, we've got five or six of us in our group.
Every year we go down to Myrtle Beach for a week, and we rent a house for a week and have a great time down there. And we talk cars, we talk everything else, but it's a good thing. Well, you know one other thing when you were talking about reasons why some people buy different cars. In some cases, some of these cars can be a very nice investment for some people. There's cases where somebody will buy a car for one price and keep it for 10 years, and it be worth a huge amount more than what they paid for it. Well, I bought my car 40 years ago that fits Sam Chevrolet. I paid $500 for it.
I had to be a little bit more than that for it today, but I really enjoyed it. And I don't hunt, I don't fish, I don't play golf, but that is my hobby. I have a garage out there, and I work on my cars and enjoy playing with them. I want to remind everyone, if you have the answer to our Tech Tip quiz or a question about your car, truck, or SUV, you give us a call.
I'm going to read that Tech Tip quiz one more time. And remember that if you answer this, you'll receive a $25 gift card from O'Reilly Auto Parts. Also, Susan and her husband went to a resort mountain area for the holidays. The city had a go-kart track. Susan's husband did something to her and the go-kart that she was driving that cost them $9,287.22. What did Susan's husband do to the go-kart that cost them that much money? And if someone knows the answer to that, you can give us a call.
And again, 706-863-5800. Also, if you have a question about your car, truck, or SUV. Now, as far as the cars in the Gas Car Club, and I'll say this, the Gas Car Club has been nice enough for many years. They did it for many years, would have their car show here at CNC Automotive. It was always wonderful. We had a lot of really good times. We ran into some cases to where a lot of the people who were helping us with the car show on this end had to go to, they started doing some schools or some training classes in Missouri at that same time.
So it was a little bit more difficult to do that, but hope to again one day. But those members, they just seemed so open for getting together and just enjoying the opportunity to be able to show people their vehicles and let people just see things. See the younger people would be able to see what the cars looked like many years ago. The older people could look at them and have so many memories of cars that they've had in the past.
Yeah, it's a lot of fun, a lot of knowledge. When the people that's got the cars in there, like I was talking to one of the guys a little while ago, I can raise a hood on some of the 50s cars and work on that, but the new cars, I can't work on that. I'll bring them down here to you, because you've got to be a computer genius to work on one of these new cars, and I can't do that. And that is one of the great things about some of the older model cars is you're able to do so many things yourself. You could probably do more on the newer cars than you think you can, but as far as the older cars, there's so many things that can be done.
And with being able to go to the internet and talk to other people or chat with other people about it, there's a whole lot of information you can get. Hey, we're going to need to take a real quick break. We'll be right back after these messages. And we do welcome you back to the CNC Auto Show. Give us a call at 706-863-5800 if you have a question about your car, truck, or SUV. We were talking on the commercial just a few minutes ago about Motorrad parts, and I just mentioned something to someone, what was that, yesterday, day before, about Motorrad thermostats. He had a vehicle that was an antique vehicle, I forgot what year model, I believe in the 60s, but he was having a problem with it building up a lot of carbon buildup, and I was asking him about his temperature hand, or what temperature the engine seemed to run at. And he said, well it's running very cold, it stays right around 150-160, and I mentioned to him that could be his problem. He also said his heater wasn't getting as hot as it should. And I said, you may need a thermostat in there, and that would bring the engine up to operating temperature and also make your heater get a lot warmer.
So I mentioned that he should go get a Motorrad thermostat, and get it at either 180-190, whatever the book calls for on that vehicle, and that would help with his carbon buildup problem, but also keep him a little bit warmer in the wintertime. So I thought that was a great, I thought of that as we were talking a little earlier. Ernie, do you think we should go to the telephone calls? Yeah, go ahead to the telephone.
I think we should do it. Okay, I'm going to look these over, and let's go to Billy. Billy, welcome to the CNC Auto Show, and what can we help you with?
I'm going to try to take a tip quiz, guys. Let me read the question real quick on there, and of course the winner will receive the $25 gift card from O'Reilly Auto Parts. Susan and her husband went to a resort mountain area for the holidays. The city had a go-kart track. Susan's husband did something to the go-kart that she was driving that cost them $9,287.22. What did Susan's husband do to the go-kart? And do you know the answer? Oh, Billy, you are on stage.
All eyes are on you. What's the answer? He cranked it up and let her drive it when the place was closed. Oh, and they fined him.
They gave her a big fine for doing that, and probably even listed her as stealing the go-kart. But, Billy, I have to tell you, you got that one. That came from our producer.
Mason Rogers did that to you. I did not do it. He has control of the button. That's all right. Thank you.
Hey, thank you. Hey, Ernie, how about if we go to another call? Go ahead. May I have a good time with this thing here? Let's go to Bob. Bob, welcome to the CNC Auto Show. Good morning.
Hello there. I think the husband bought the go-kart for his wife. Oh, the go-kart. Wow.
You know, I guess some go-karts could run that much money. But, no. Oh, Bob, I'm sorry. Bob, Bob, don't. Bob, it's not that bad. Bob, that's not the answer. Bob? Bob? Bob didn't like that. Sorry, Bob.
Okay, the number to call is 706-863-5800 if you know the answer to your car, truck, or SUV. They're laughing in there. Okay, let's go to Ron. Ron, welcome to the CNC Auto Show.
What can we help with? Aaron, I got a 2002 Ford Focus, and the oil light started coming on. I've checked the oil several times. I've got plenty of oil.
Is that something that... I don't have an electric oil pump on that, do I? No, that model does not have an electric oil pump. It's a little unusual to run into that light coming on on that vehicle. We haven't had too many problems with the oil sending unit on it. Have you driven the car any while the light was in the on position?
I have, and sometimes I have pulled it off the side of the road, turned it off, and then restarted it, and the light will go out. Okay, and this definitely says oil pressure, and it's a red light with a picture of an oil can or a red light that says oil pressure? It's just an oil can with the red light.
It doesn't flash or anything. If it's a red light, that means oil pressure. Now normally, what I tell people to do is if they see an oil pressure light on, go ahead and park the car. Don't drive it because it could be electrical or it could be pressure.
But you've already run the test because if the car ran more than a few minutes with that light on, and you didn't hear an unusual knocking noise like somebody was knocking at your door saying, and you saying, come in... Like a piston coming through the wall? Yeah, and if it didn't make that noise, that means high probability it is an electrical problem because they won't run without oil pressure, hardly any. So I would recommend having the car, the oil pressure tested, which what they'll do is take that old oil sending unit out, put a manual gauge in, and then crank the vehicle. If the oil pressure goes up to let's say 30, 40, 50 when it's cranked up, then we know you have oil pressure and then go back in with a new sensor.
Or if somebody's doing this their self and they don't have a pressure gauge, oil sending units are normally not real expensive, and if you're doing it yourself, you're not gambling that much, so you can just put a new oil sending unit in and see if it solves the problem. Well, you know, on another line here, prior to that, my battery warning light would come on, charging light, and it would come on, stay on for a few minutes, and then it would go off, and then it got to where it would stay off for a while, and then it would come back on in the middle of a trip, and then it would go back out after it was on for a while. You know, that alternator, and I'm assuming that's coming from... Hey Ron, Ron, can I put y'all hold just a second? Yeah, sure. If you don't mind, hold on just a few seconds, we'll be back with more of the CNC Auto Show very shortly.
It's time for more good stuff with Aaron Clements and John Ryan Mooney. This show is brought to you in part by Blaster Corporation, the makers of PB Blaster for breaking free rusted parts. Remember to always use Blaster products and work it like a pro. And we welcome you back to the CNC Auto Show, talking about that PB Blaster, that's one of the rules here at the shop, if someone is working with a vehicle, and they've taken some bolts out, and especially if they're exhaust bolts or bolts, coolant bolts that are prone to break, they have to spray them down with PB Blaster before we go any further, because if you don't, and the bolt breaks, it takes twice as long to get that broke bolt out as it does to spray them down real good, let them soak for a little tap on them, and then they pull right out.
That's normally the way to do it, so PB Blaster is a great product. We are back with you, and I did want to mention that we have another guest here, and we'll be going right back to Ron in just a second or two, but I wanted to mention that our guest is Mark Field, and Mark is with the CSRA Mustang Club, and Mark, welcome to the CNC Auto Show. Thanks for having me. Okay, and we had a caller here, Ron, and I was going to see if you could help me answer Ron's question that he has here. Ron has a 2002 Focus, and his oil light was coming on, and Ben coming on, and he was asking for advice. He's already done one test, and that was to drive it with the oil light on, and it didn't knock, so we think we have a electrical problem. Does that sound right, Ron?
That's about it. I was brought up to always turn the automobile off when that light came on, but I turned it off and checked the oil, and the oil was plenty oil. In fact, I had just changed the oil, and it was running fine.
I had no problem, and that's what kind of made me think it had to be some kind of electrical problem. I'm cutting up with you. FYI, I did, when I opened the hood, there were some hauled out acorns on top of the engine. There were some what now? Hauled out acorns. Sounds like you might have got a squirrel up in there.
Oh. And we got a bunch of them little chipmunks around here, and I may have to eradicate some of them. But later, like I mentioned too, later on, prior to that, my alternator light was coming on, or my battery light was coming on, and it would do the same thing.
It would come on for a while and shut off, and then it would turn off. Don, I think you hit on it with the acorns. Something is eating your focus. Yeah, I think so. I think you're right. I think you're right. Yeah.
It's just real. I'm sorry. And Ron, if you wait too long, you're going to walk out there, and all you're going to have is a seat laying in the driveway where the car was parked, because those jokers might be real hungry. Well, I've never known chipmunks in this part of the country before.
It seems like now we've got armadillos, coyotes, and now the notorious chipmunk gang. You know, if I could, can I take a stab at that tech quiz? Ron, you can do it. And I think we have solved your focus problem.
Do a good visual inspection on those wires. Okay, now let me mention that tech tip quiz one more time. Remember that if you answered us when you get that $25 gift card from O'Reilly Auto Parts also. So Susan and her husband went to a resort mountain area for the holidays. The city had a go-kart track. Susan's husband did something to her and the go-kart that she was driving that cost him $9,287.22. What did Susan's husband do to the go-kart?
Okay. Well, Erin, the way I see it, her husband had then took out a huge policy on his wife and was wanting to collect. So he had disconnected the brakes. And she winded up going into a hard air pen turn and was killed. And he filed for the insurance. And they seemed that it was bogus that it was not a car on the road and refused to pay off.
And he had to wind up paying over almost $10,000 for a funeral. Oh my. Ron, you gave this thing a lot of thought now.
It took about five minutes. But guys, I really appreciate what y'all do. It's incredible the service that y'all do for our community with this show. And I want to just tell you how much I appreciate it and I know others do as well. I want to wish y'all a Merry Christmas and a safe Happy New Year.
Well, Ron, we thank you. And I want to tell you that you're always a lot of fun when you call. And I appreciate you calling. Take care. You too.
Okay, the number to call is 706-863-5800. And we were, I want to mention just a few words on the Mustang Club here. And then we'll be going to Robbie and Billy and the others there. But there's no show can be complete without talking about Mustangs if you're talking about car shows.
American icon. Yeah. And of course, I have been to some of the Mustang car shows that they have had. And some of them, I've been to regular shows, but there was one, I forgot exactly when it was, but that thing was huge. We did, we're a chartered member of the Mustang Club of America. And so since I've been in the club in 2015 and 2018, we did a national Mustang Club of America show. So that's probably what you're talking about. We did two of them out at Grovetown at the exhibition.
Yeah. And so each time we did that, that's a Mustang only show. They do allow certain Fords, but they're display only. So it's a judge show from the Mustang Club of America. And each time that we did that, we had about 300, 350 cars out there each time.
You know, I did a video when I was out there, a segment. I still remember that because I interviewed a gentleman that had a brand new 65 Mustang. Yeah, one of the revology cars.
Yes, it was amazing. The radio was electronic, but it looked like an old radio. The windows had window cranks, but they were actually electric. You just move them in like a regular handle and it was an electric window that would go up and down.
The 15 show that we did also, we had some guys, they changed their name since they came to us. But what they do is they take an 05 to like 09, 010 Mustang, and they make it look like an old 68, 69. So when we were doing one of our shows, a gentleman had an 08 bullet Mustang.
And they made it look like the 68 bullet Mustang. Well, you know what I'm going to be doing? We're going to go to these callers.
And when we return, I'm going to be asking you, if money was no object, what Mustang would you get? But we'll go to these callers first. Okay, let's go over to Robbie. Robbie, welcome to the CNC Auto Show.
What can we help with? Yes, sir. I'd like to give the Tech Tip quiz a shot. Well, you know, we need to put you on stage first. Yes, sir. And you are definitely on stage.
And now we are ready for you to answer the Tech Tip quiz. And what is the answer? I believe that, I don't know if you said that the place was open or closed, but I believe that they got into a race. I watched a good movie a few years ago, Rubbin's Racin'. So I guess they got into like a, you know, he bumped her or whatever and knocked her in. And she had to go to the emergency room and acquired some emergency room visit bill, broke a leg or something. Oh, so the thing that he did to the go-kart, oh, he jumped the gun. But the bad news is out of the bag, Robbie, you didn't get it. But you were saying that what he did to the go-kart was he ran them off the road. Yes, sir. Because they were heated, they were a competitive couple.
And she wanted to win and he didn't, so he just ran her right off the road. Robbie, that was a good try, it really was. I appreciate it. Thank you very much for the call.
Number to call is 706-863-5800. And Mark, you think we ought to go over here and talk to Billy? Yeah, we can.
Let's do it. We're going to talk to Billy. Hey, Billy, welcome to the CNC Auto Show.
And what can we help with? I think a couple people being close, but let me try that tech tip quiz one more time. Billy, give us the answer and then we will need to take a real quick break.
And we will let you know whether you win or do not win when we return. Okay, Billy, what is the answer? I think he ran into the back of her and told them both out. Oh, so he really ended up with, instead of just having to purchase one go-kart, he ended up having to purchase two go-karts.
And then he also had to pay all the medical expenses because when he ran into the back of her, it kind of pushed her off the road and she was in the go-kart and boom, all of that stuff. Billy, we're not going to be able to wait on that one. We're going to have to go ahead and fix you right up. Oh, no. Oh, no.
Hey, Billy, it was a good try, though. Thank you, man. Hey, we appreciate it.
All right. Okay, number to call, 706-863-5800. If you have a question about your car, truck, or SUV, give us a call.
We'll be right back after these messages. Welcome back to more of the CNC Auto Show with Aaron Clements and John Ryan Mooney. As we navigate the COVID-19 crisis, O'Reilly Auto Parts is dedicated to serving you. We've been deemed an essential business, so our doors will stay open.
We encourage you to buy online, then pick up curbside. Together, we're committed to getting through this. And we do want to welcome you back to the CNC Auto Show, number 706-863-5800. And we have Mark Field here with us. And there was something I wanted to mention to Mark. We were talking and we were talking things to do in the things that we've done through our lifetime. I want to say thank you to Mark for his service to our country that he's given.
He has done a lot of things for our country and won't go deep into that. But I can tell you that we really appreciate it. Thank you. We sure do.
So many men and women have done so much for our country so that we can have the freedom that we enjoy. Okay. Let's go to another call.
You want to? All right. Let's go to, let's see here.
I want to make sure I get the one that's been waiting. Okay. Let's go to Nate. Nate, welcome to the CNC Auto Show. And what can we help you with?
Good morning, guys. Hey, like I've got a 17 Jeep Wrangler and I've got a slow tire leak coming out. I've had the tire taken off, gone to Firestone. They checked it out. They told me there was no leak. And I said, well, every morning when I get up, the tires got like 16 PSI in it and I got to blow it up to 37. Do you think it might be the TPMS or something else?
Very possible. But if you have a vehicle that the tire pressure is leaking down that much overnight, then there's no doubt you'll be able to find it. What you want to do is put a little extra pressure in it.
Maybe let's say if it calls for 35, you may want to put 50 in there and have the wheel off of the vehicle. It's the easiest way. You can do it on the car. But then just take your regular soapy solution.
I still, on a lot of things that happen on a vehicle, I still like the old way of doing certain things. And it's hard to beat a little spray bottle with some Dawn soap. We use a special solution for it, but actually Dawn soap works very well. And just spray it down a little bit and look for where the bubbles are going to be coming out. Now I'm going to tell you something a little different here. The TPMS sensor can leak.
We see those. But if it is leaking, you will see some bubbles around it. But we have a car sitting in the shop right now. Now I think this one is a Honda, if I'm not mistaken, because I just kind of was walking by and the technician was telling me about it. But he said, Aaron, on this vehicle here, they brought it in for a leaking tire, and it's got leakage through the rim. He sprayed a little spot on the aluminum wheel and bubbles come out through the wheel itself. So you could have a wheel leaking, but it could be any one of those things. It could be a TPMS sensor. It could be where the tire mounts to the rim itself. It could have some debris there letting some air come out. Or it could be something to do with the tire has a lot of permeation in one spot or something in it. But that's the method.
It just takes a little bit of patience and a little time just to go around and just spray each spot. Mark where you start at so you won't go around the wheel twice. But do it that way, and you'll be able to find it. Let me take a stab at the detective quiz real quick. Oh, you're going to answer our detective quiz? Yeah, you said they were in the mountains? Yeah, they were in the mountains, and they were riding go-carts. I think they got in to a little bit of moonshine. And so when they got into an accident with the go-cart, they had to pay for DUI charges and a lawyer and all that. Wow. So they were driving go-carts while they were liquored up?
That's right. How else do you ride on go-carts, you know? So they were having a good time. And Nate, I'm going to mention that the producer here says that O'Reilly Auto Parts really wants to give away that $25 gift card. So he wants me to try my best to walk somebody through this thing. So I'm supposed to give a hint or two. So the only thing I'm going to toss out there is if they were riding carts, that means that they were not at home. So that's all I got to say.
I can't say anymore, Nate. So maybe somebody can grab that memory. I'm going to say that if they were not at home, they were maybe in another state, and their insurance didn't cover them to operate a cart in a different state.
And so when they wrecked it, they got sued by the manager of the go-cart company. Yeah. Nate, that one's just not the one. Oh, no! Last tip for somebody is that what if a lot of people knew they weren't at home? I can't say anymore, Nate.
That's it. And why would a lot of people know they were not at home? Because they're on social media, and somebody got in their house and robbed their house. Oh, Nate! You got it, man!
Thank you very much! Susan's husband took a picture of Susan while she was driving the go-cart, and he posted it online. And there were some bad guys that saw the post and knew that they were out of town. The bad guys broke in, stole big-screen TVs, computers, jewelry.
All of it totaled up to $9,287.22. And the tip is not to post and tell the world that your house is empty, or it will be. So there we go. Nate, you're the winner, man.
Thank you very much! You're going to win that $25 gift card from O'Reilly Auto Parts, and the coffee mug or coffee cup that says and proves to everyone that you are a Tech Tip Quiz winner, so that on Christmas morning when you're sitting there, you can sit there with that smug look on your face with your I Answer to Tech Tip Quiz coffee mug. So enjoy that.
So stay on hold. Yes, sir. Hallelujah! All right, here we go. Now, let's go to where we're going. Man, I am worked up. We will go to Lois. Lois, welcome to the C&C Auto Show.
What can we help with? I have an Altima that my heater has quit working, or the fan has quit working, and it only works when you have it on the upper, like blowing in your face. It doesn't work for your feet. And I'm afraid it's the fan motor or the... But it works when you turn it to high, right? No.
No. It don't work even on high? It heats if you put it under mode, if you hit it to hit your face. But it does not if you put it on feet, like your feet get cold.
We were headed to the coast the other day, and it was cold, and my husband's feet were cold, and mine were, and nothing we did. No heat whatsoever. Do you hear any knocking or anything like that in the dash? Nope.
Nothing. What might have happened is a lot of the cars have little blend doors in them now. I know my Mustang has one.
A little what? It's called a blend door. Blend the what? Yeah, they open and they close the vents that go to your face, or the defroster and everything like that. A blend door actuator.
Yeah, if it's working in certain areas, what it might be is one of your blend doors has went bad, and it's either not opening or closing. So it's not a fuse or something else? Well, not likely to be a fuse. Now, the air, when it's blowing on your face, you say the air is hot when it's blowing on your face, right? It gets warm.
You have dual temperature control, so I can set mine and he can set his. Very well could be a blend air door or a mode door of one of those actuators. A long time ago, they used to work off a vacuum.
Now they work off electrical. But, Lois, we are out of time. I really do appreciate the call. Thank you, and don't hesitate to give the shop a call if we can answer any more questions on that part of it. Time clock's on E, and we need to pull over for now.
But we will be back on the road in no time. I'm Aaron Clements with show producer Mason Rogers, and we would all like to say thank you. I want to say thank you for joining us on the CNC Auto Show and thank all of you for riding with us on the CNC Auto Show.
