Good morning, everybody. Welcome to the Winklerverse. I'm Bart Winkler. I have a conversation with Bart Lundy, Bart and Bart, for the third year in his office.

We're going to bring you the latest on Panther basketball. Check it out. That'll be coming up later on in this episode in which Tim Shea is here. As Tim Shea and I were talking and I thought, you know, Tim, what we talk about, we essentially talk about our conversations when we do this. Not really any different from when we talk in real life, except for all the behind the scenes dirt we give each other. But other than that, it's good to see and talk to you.

Tim Shea, ladies and gentlemen, Tim Shea. Thank you, Bart. Great to see and talk to you too. How are you doing? Good. I'm still pulling for the New York really looking forward to your conversation with Bart Lundy.

I'm glad you two have a good connection now. You know, this is what you're two with your three I just said you're three. Sorry, sorry. Loose track real quick. So yeah, we talk about Panther basketball. Looking forward to the Bart, Bart on Bart talk. So I mean, it's a pretty dry 10 minutes. It's it's very much a Panther basketball interview. If you're not interested in Panther basketball. I probably would not listen to that part of the show. I'm sure you discuss this but high expectations for him this year. I'm sure you can't.

Thank you for the endorsement. I'm still rooting for the New York Mets I put money on them. I wanted the exact matchup of New York Yankees to lose to New York Mets in the World Series that would have played plus 3900 I couldn't find it.

Where we can gamble. So instead, I did put 10 on the Mets to get to the World Series. That would net me 60.

Wow, this is great. But then another 10 to win the World Series for 150. So it's, you know, it's something it's just and I found that even with the $20 that I have bet. I mean, it's not a lot. It's but it totally has eliminated my anger about the New York Mets like I'm still the meme team thing that sucks. I hate them.

But I don't care now because if they loot it's hedging hedging is a great strategy. I might have to do it for the election. Oh, Jesus. Speaking of betting.

We weren't gonna touch on that today. Well, I am obsessed. That's all I do every day.

I am only one track mine. Speaking of Betty, I need your help. I'm going to early vote though, Tim. I'm going to early vote.

Just like Jimmy Carter. I need your help with bedding. So I've been helping not helping my dad. I've been giving my dad $5 to put down a three team college football firelight to win 40 bucks every week.

I bought a lot of me. Okay. And it's always been the last game of the night.

I just can't hit it. So I need you to look. You don't need to give me three teams today.

But take a look. I'm going to call you back tomorrow. I need three college football teams that will be guaranteed that you think are guaranteed against spread.

So well, I think we're not kind of the guy you want to talk to on that. Yeah. I might go, I might take, I might take Texas to win against Georgia and cover the three and a half. I'll take Bama to beat Tennessee and cover the three. And I want to take Nebraska to cover the six and a half against Indiana. No, but I'll take Miami minus five on the road. So Miami, Bama and Texas, the big ones.

Okay. Those aren't very three. That's like one, two and three right there.

One, three and five. Or the other thing, if he wants, if he gets there Friday, Oregon is a 27 and a half point favorite against Purdue. I know it's crossed to his time zones, which big 10 teams have been struggling with, but I don't know that they should be fine. Okay.

I might have to take those. You going on a vacation this week? No, not this week.

Next week. You're going to big 10 Saturday night. I'm going to big 10 Saturday night, baby. Big 10 Saturday night. I would typically in a normal year and a normal year that they have a normal stadium. I would go to this game Northwestern. Yeah, but they are playing in San Jacobo. I want to go.

I actually, I was more inclined to go, but with the coaching that I do, I wouldn't get there really at all. Yeah. But otherwise I would want to go specific to this soccer type stadium. This soccer lacrosse field, whatever it is.

Right on the beautiful lake. Yeah. I mean, there was a point before they added some seats that a missed field goal could have gone into the Lake Lake, Michigan.

Yeah. That would have been crazy for, for our boy, uh, so let's talk about that. Um, first of all, the Packers beat the Cardinals 34, 13, Jordan love at four touchdowns. He was great.

Romeo Dobbs with a couple of Christian Watson scored Jayden Reed scored Josh Jacobs ran hard, and then Emmanuel Wilson still somehow ran better. A good win for the Packers all the way around the multiple multiple multiple multiple turnovers again in every game, all six weeks. Because people, uh, I got this one call from this Packer fan the other night. That was so like, he was really thinking that Jordan loves bad. And I said, well, I said, if you, the first five weeks have been disjointed, if you're thinking like he's not going to go out there every week and look like a $55 million quarterback, but people have to like, that's not, it's not exactly what is going to happen, but he has been playing well.

Okay. He's been playing well, and this was a really good game for him. Now they've got a tough matchup against the Texans and to do this, they are going to switch their kickers as everybody had anxiety about the kickers. They changed.

They changed again. I think Anders Carlson is probably going to be kicking for the Niners this weekend. Um, so that's great. He'll be good. Brandon McManus. And I don't know every detail about everything, but it seems like the Packers are an organization that if they were worried about it, they wouldn't have. Signed him with the exception that they're kicking is so bad. They might, they might like throw their morals out the window just to make a 37 yard field goal. We're never in these waters. If the Packers don't try to develop kickers the same way, they develop quarterbacks.

You don't have to do that. We should be signing. I mean, even though Greg Joseph now, I guess sucks, but these are the losers. We should be signing just these guys that are like, Oh, Joey slides available. That's who should be kicking for your team. They should be like relief pitchers, get a year out of them. Then they stopped and move on to have a 10 year kicker.

Just isn't the norm. Well, we were on that. You know, from Chris Jackie to Ryan Longwell for Ryan Longwell, it's a Mason Crosby.

And then from Mason Crosby 50s, Mason Carlson screwed it up. You know, back 1250 is back on one Oh five seven FM. And it like sounds good. Now I heard it. They're back on the FM dial. Huh? Yeah.

And I like, I like get it wherever I go. So does that mean like all 1250s on the FM dial? So even you are now on the FM dial? I am. So you can promote yourself that way too.

Bart is on the FM dial one of five sevens. Yeah. I cut a new promo. I thought that would be cool to say, but apparently you're not as excited as I am. Oh, just going past the Bucks arena or Bucks practice facility.

There's some players. Oh, look, there's Scott Godspeed. Really? If I pull out, hold on. If I circle again, shoot.

I should have tried to try it. There's a lot of stuff. I got to go faster. There's a lot of stuff going on. I'm driving.

I saw grad ski yesterday. Hold on here. I'm gonna I'm gonna try and turn this. I'm making a U-turn.

Oh, this is hilarious. I'm gonna ask him what went on at Bucks practice. He's just sitting on the corner. I'm gonna flip my phone.

I don't think you can on StreamYard. No, I can't. Hi, Scott. I'm live with Bart right now. How was Bucks practice? Bart on his podcast.

Bucks don't let him see practice. So he has no idea. Oh, I kind of heard that. So you're talking from the other side of the street. Yeah. Yep. All right. That's nice. Oh, there you go.

Scott back on the pod. Good. Thanks for thanks for risking your life and traffic to do that. Hey, no problem.

I was at a red light. Hey, the other. What?

Can you hear me? Yeah, I got you. Oh, okay. Sorry.

The other the other controversy in Packer land. It seems like and I'm not that into this. I don't know. Like I said, if I spend time online, I'm knee deep in the weeds about people bragging about their candidate going to win and with no decorum or civility at all anymore.

The politeness is dead in this country. But the Packers are wearing these white out jerseys and people are mad that it's a not cold enough and be there's not a yellow stripe. Are you following this? Yeah, it's going to be like what 75 degrees for this. Well, they're calling it the winter warning.

You got to get it right there. The winter warning. And it's bad because it's October.

I guess. So the Packers are trying to get Wisconsinites who famously defy every team effort to match in the stands. They're trying to get everyone to wear white. Yes, they're handing out scarves at the game. And people are mad about this. I guess it's too hot for a scarf. So they want to do that. So they want to have a white out when it's 20 degrees when everybody's wearing five layers of clothes and they're not going to put a medium sized t shirt over their body. And half of the half of the stadiums and blaze orange anyway. I take I take a medium shirt.

I'd wear it. I don't understand what the issue is. There's no issue. There's just people. People crying about it. Good.

Good for them. Those are people that are not going to the game. One guy said I'm gonna I'm going to the game and I'm purposely gonna wear green. Where you're green.

Okay. How do you become that much of a like Packer fan where you're like, Oh, the team wants me to wear white. So I'm gonna wear like, who are you sticking it to? They did this back in God 2006 2007.

2008 against the Bears. They handed out t shirts. Everyone participated in it. Really? Yep. They handed out white t shirts.

And they handed out something else like like white towels. Hmm. So I think just people are annoyed with it or people don't like it that it's called that it's legit called the winter warning and it's going to be 75 degrees outside. Yeah, I mean, you can't control the weather.

No. Well, so whatever. As far as we know, wear the scarf, wear white, wear a white Packer shirt and call it a day. The other things that upset me this week on the Bart Winkler show include the Steelers going to Justin Russell Wilson over Justin Fields makes no sense to me. Jerry Jones trying to claim he can fire people that don't work for him. Yeah, better watch out.

You might get fired too. And Aaron Rodgers like being like, look, here's the van. They like it's some great SNL cameo. Like that was so lame.

These two are so lame. The MVS is getting like, Oh, yeah, jets. I saw I saw someone that was like, Wait, so we get to watch the Packers in this new young form. And we still get to watch Rogers and Davante play.

We are so blessed. I get no joy out of watching Rogers and Davante play. No. And I was to the point with Rogers, where I'm not that affected by what he's doing. But now that he's back with Davante now I am more mad. Because now I'm like mad at Davante. I think Davante the way he's acted these last eight years is it's it's a he's a childish man. Can we admit that? Also, the problem I don't think is the offense for the Jets. But he followed this childish mentor is the problem.

Sure, that's fine. But he went from the Packers, he wanted to win a Super Bowl. He went from the Packers to the Raiders. That was a head scratcher. And now he's going to the Jets.

And that's another head scratcher. Sure, he's going back with his buddy, but he's not going to win there. They may they may not win seven games this year. No, Tim, their schedules pretty light, though. They're not winning this week. And how do I hear all these stories about Rogers being such a great teammate when he's on a career assassination of Mike Williams?

I mean, anytime you put a microphone in front of this guy's face, he's burying this guy under the bus. Dude, how do you work 40 hours a week? I don't know. I get to like night four of the week and I'm like 20 hours of content's hard. Well, during football season, it's gotta be easy. Come on. It's easier, but it's also going on right in front of you.

Well, yesterday I just woke up and then Fields, Davante, Jerry Jones, like I didn't talk about anything but that. I mean, it's it's pretty much thrown in your lap. Your troubles got to be like. May, June, July. Where it just drags on. Yeah, I think I'm planning on going through like a personal crisis where I can't work for two months and I'm just going to like hang out and I'll tell my audience I'm just I'm burnt out like June and July.

Yeah. And then you go back for preseason. There's people in radio have done it where they're just like I'm burnt out and then they just disappear and then they come back and it's like. He's he kind of you kind of maneuvered your way into two months off.

Maybe I'll try that. You know, I said the other night on the show, I said just in case you're wondering. If national Bart will be different than local Bart. I constantly dumb myself down to the lowest common denominator. So you guys understand what I'm trying to say. There's gonna be so many people that have no clue like where I came from or anything that just hate my guts. You know a lot of haters. Um, I don't, I don't think I hear from them because I think I think the people that like start to engage, you know you like what you're hearing you like it. If you hate me you just turn it off and never listen again and I'm so irrelevant to you that there's no reason to, because like I, like I said, I'm basically recommended for you I come on after what you were listening to. It takes a while before people are like oh Bart's on I'll tune him on. I'm popping up all over the country, no one has any idea how I got on their airwaves. Who is this guy.

Yeah. Well, you got a vacation next weekend what do you got going this weekend, Asian next weekend, big 10 Saturday night so we'll take care of that we maybe we can recap that in two weeks. This weekend, not much. I'll be, I'll be here. Maybe we should get together maybe we should go to potter and watch some game Saturday, what do you think about that. After, after your coaching.

There's like a 10 to 20% chance I might get the potter at night, or go for the prime time maybe go watch this week's big 10 Saturday night game. I have a buddy that will be there and I don't know, this buddy or no. Huh. Do I know this buddy. Maybe. Okay. I don't know who you know. Well, I was going more on them. Like, like, Rami or, or, or your brother. Oh, no, that.

No. Well, Tim. Thank you. Thank you for getting Scott Grodsky on the show. Hey, no problem. I hope I hope you were able to hear that. I was. All right, well have a good week. And I'll, I'll listen to your Bart Mundy internet. Yeah, again, if you don't like Panther basketball, I would dip out now.

But if you do stick around on into the Winkler verse. Panthers. What's up, it is year three of me sitting in Bart Lundy's office at the, well, it's just the Milwaukee Panthers there's a very clear distinction in the media books. There's Milwaukee, not UWM.

Which is great might take couple decades for that to get going but but that's great. The basketball team the men's basketball team coach by Bart Lundy. This is your third year with this program. When I first talked to you, kind of like throughout this journey of you becoming the coach and getting acclimated. It was sort of it kind of felt like it was like rushed a little bit and you're trying to figure out your bearings, and you had a schedule you didn't put together and you had a team you had to meet, how much more comfortable Are you in your chair in this office.

Do you feel like, you know, places around town you can you know you don't have to look at the map anymore. You're getting connections like how, how much do you feel compared to them that. Okay, I'm a part of Milwaukee now completely, completely. And you know I had had been here before at Marquette right in this seat. You know, it really revolves around, you know, your, your team and your staff and we've had the same staff for.

I've been going on 31 months now. So, we're about 10 months every 10 months we get to do this, it's pretty cool. With the with being here a little bit before did you draw on things you knew or did. How much did it feel like, yes, you've been in Milwaukee. But how much did it feel like you're also in a new kind of city and new kind of experience. Yeah, the, the university itself was a whole new experience and building a team, basically from scratch wasn't necessarily new but it was new here out of my North Carolina guy, you know, out of my region. So, hiring staff that guys that brought one with me, new one a little bit but guys I didn't know as much, and then recruiting a team of all new players. So, there's a lot of a lot of new faces, and obviously for the family as well. So, 30 months in the team is great we're, you know, comfortable with everything, when everybody knows what the mission is the staff has been here with continuity which never happens in college basketball.

I do know where to go the restaurants and the grocery store and not that I do a lot of shopping but I do know where to go. And, you know, feel, feel great about. I love the university, absolutely love the university I love that gives access to, to the community, where a lot of universities don't. It's affordable, but yet it's an hour one institution and gives that high level education so you come here. I was a poor kid.

You come here as a poor kid, and you can become the CEO of Microsoft. You know, that's pretty cool. Yeah. And I think the reason I want to touch on that. I think the reason I want to touch on that is, if you get more comfortable and if you get more acclimated, then I think it's easier to get the team more acclimated and then you can focus when you're not having to worry about where's my family here where's this where's that how do I, then you can focus on the basketball and the results in just the two years that you've been doing it are starting to show so close.

To the tournament last year, this year coming in as the preseason favorite in the Horizon League. So it's it's it's I think getting to the spot where you hope it does. And then now it's just continuing on that path because now you know two years in third year, but now there are some expectations I think. Yeah, hope so.

Hope so. You know, most coaches will tell you know, nobody puts more pressure on them than themselves and our staff is like that too. You know that we're we're trying to achieve something great and, you know, get the university to the NCAA tournament. We're the front porch of the university. If we do that, then people start to learn how good this place is. You know, you go into any room in Milwaukee, and you say, okay, raise your hand if you have someone in your family that went to Milwaukee, or, you know, you yourself did.

And most of the room will raise their hand. You know, we just need to give them something to be proud of to scream from the mountaintops that I'm a panther. And when you make the NCAA tournament you give them something to be proud of, then, you know, we compare it to the Marquette fans. Marquette fans are proud, right? They'll scream it from the mountains.

There's a lot less of them. You know, I want to, I want us to give Milwaukee alums, families, something to be proud of. And we've talked about it but sports is a good way to connect that. So, because based on that answer, you talked earlier, you know, with the Q&A, some people, I think, would like being in underdog attack mode. But it seems like, okay, we're number one.

That's where, at least in the preseason polls, we're number one. You want that. You want that for your guys, for you. You want to be, you want to be the hunted? Is that right? Yeah, I guess.

I guess that's where we are, right? You know, pick to win it. That's just if you put anything into the preseason poll. You do a lot. I think you want to be in that conversation.

A state of all night waiting for the release of the Horizon League preseason poll. I know. You're on 9 to 1, right? I am. I am.

At night, 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Yeah. You want to be in that conversation. You want to be, you want people to say, all right, that's the 30 months in. It's a recognition of the work that this staff has done to get this program from where we were ninth or whatever we were the first year. Yeah. To now there are expectations.

And that's okay. And, you know, our guys, the first year we made it to the Final Four in the league in a tournament go to Indy. And we made the Final Four we lost in the semifinal.

Last year we lose in the finals to Oakland, tied with two minutes and 58 seconds to go. So you start to break through those barriers and eventually you want people to, you know, think of a Horizon League men's basketball. Oh, yeah, that's Milwaukee. And, you know, that's where you're really helping the university. And you're helping your guys, you know, the guys at Oakland got lots of opportunities as pros or other universities. So, you know, winning kind of raises all the boats. The Milwaukee Panthers getting more attention, getting more excitement. And you're doing this in an era with the transfer portal, which has made college basketball fill in the blank.

The wild, wild west. In a worse way? In my opinion, it has become a little more difficult as a coach. I don't know if it's worse building a team. The way it's worse part is for the fans of college sports. Yeah, it is much more difficult to follow a guy from his freshman year to his senior year and to have that attachment because there's so much movement. And I hope that that doesn't hurt college athletics because I'm in this because I love college athletics.

I love the model. I love the education. I hope we don't lose that because with your program. So you've got some guys that come in when you knew him from AJ, you knew him from Queens. And then with BJ Freeman, who has departed, I think like what I saw with him, just, you know, following him online and seeing people like he makes connections and people make connections with that. And, you know, they leave.

And, you know, I think people are let's say, oh, well, it's good for him and I'm happy for him. But it's just you don't get as much the people that are here for four years. And it makes it harder for the fans. Like you said, I think it makes it harder for coaching staffs when you have to recruit throughout the season. But then, like, also sort of be recruiting your own guys at the same time. I feel like that is the toughest part of it. But you had some people leave. You've had some people come.

So you just got to do what you can with with what you know. And you feel pretty good about your team. I mean, they've got the rankings for you. Number one, how do you view your team? I really, really like our team. I like coaching them. I like going to work with them every day.

I just talked to Scott Waris. And over the first two years, at times, it felt like I was a manager. Yeah. I was keeping the pieces going in the right direction and not coaching the team. This team can progress and they want to be coached and they want to be great. And we can we can get to the point where we play a little more complicated basketball where complicated is not always the best thing. But for me, being a longtime head coach, if it's a little more complicated, I can manipulate the game a bit more.

There were times where the first two years where we had some talent out there and. You know, you try to put them in right positions and just hope for the best, you know, you're but this team really plays the right way. They're going to be able to guard. They're going to be able to change things throughout the game.

They play for each other. So it is is a team that the fans will really enjoy watching. Have you felt more excitement from when you were first here to the 31 months later? Do you start to feel that? Do you see that on campus that people are getting more into the team?

Yeah, I think so. I would love to have more student interaction. The community has been great in the community. They're awesome. Support from the community is fantastic.

I'd love to see more student interaction. Do you do the thing coaches do or the handout pizzas on the first day? Yeah, we did. We do some pizza. Yeah.

Bruce Pearl used to take his shirt off. I don't make anybody suffer through that, but I can't can't do that one. But OK, well, the pizzas, the pizzas is the way pizza, the pizzas is the way.

Well, good luck on the season. Always good to link up with another Bart. Oh, there's another Bart.
