I think there's some new people coming into the Winkler Verse lately, so let me tell you what this is. This is our flagship show. Is it really? I think so. It is.
How is it not? We've been doing this version for four years.
Well, just because it's on most consistently doesn't mean it's the best. But I didn't say it's the best. I said it's the flagship.
Okay, that's true. That's true. You said best.
Well, wait. It's not. I.
Well, I think I didn't say it was best. I.
I was casting doubt onto the idea that it was the best. Continue. The Winklerverse has a lot of Horvat maniacs. I'll tell you that. Lot, lot of Horvat maniacs.
So, people might. I'm one of them. I'm too. Me too. Card carrying baby.
Let me. Um. Do you? Are we? This is all brewers, right?
Paul, new people in the Winklerverse. Can you introduce us? You didn't introduce us. Huh? You didn't introduce us.
There's new people in the Winklerverse. You didn't even tell everyone who we are. I can't do all the legwork. Oh, this is Grant Bills. Thank you.
Grant is from Menominee, and he is a radio host on the Wisco Sports Zone radio network. That is. Name was fine, but thank you. Close enough. Grant is on from four to six every afternoon, including during the game yesterday.
That must have blown ass. It was interesting. Mostly talked Packers and then just reacted. It was well. Yours, I mean, to do it, but a little different because you're a Brewer guy doing a Wisconsin show.
I keep I keep thinking about what if I still had the national gig and was on. From nine o'clock till one a.m., which was the exact time of Game Four last week, that would have sucked. Paul Emig, Paul Emig has been a beat writer for the Green Bay Packers. He's previously with Fox Sports and on Milwaukee, and maybe the other one for a little bit. What's the other one?
I don't know. Aren't you Milwaukee Record or some other shit? No, but that none of that matters because that was like a decade ago. Paul's just our goodest of buddies. Goodest of buddies.
Goodest of buddies. So I mean, that's that's closer to a decade ago than I would like to admit. To like, you know what I mean? Like, when was the last time he was officially the goodest of buddies on the radio show? Yeah, it's not like that was last year.
Twenty twenty twenty one twenty twenty. That's a long time ago too. Anyway, we're here. To talk Wisconsin sports, I will continue to do the post game podcast. At some point, like I said last night, I'm going to want to get into a crowd of people.
I don't know how that's going to happen. I do think that we'll be able to do something with Pado Wadami as we're driving up to episode seven seven seven, lucky sevens. And when I talked to Pado about this, I figured that would take us through the end of October. We're at seven. This is seven seventy.
Wow!
So we're almost there. We're getting there quicker because the Brewers won't stop winning, which is great.
So I'm gonna figure out something either before. I don't know. TBD. Like everything I do, I say I'm gonna do it for four months. How long did I say is gonna open up a store before I finally started selling merch?
And I got a nice like two week. Hey, Bart's got merch. And then that went very silent, so I'm gonna rework on that in a couple of days. Here, anyway, short story long. Do you have anything non-Brewers?
Hmm. You why? Because we'll save it for the end. Is it Bucks? No.
Okay.
Okay.
All right.
Well, we want to talk about the Brewers. The last time that we talked. Was a week ago they were up two nothing. Oh, and I should set expectations. Paul will be on a of what do we always say?
Sojourn. No, get away. Oh, Paul will be on assignment. Yeah, on assignment. Have you got assignment the next two weeks?
So no. Yeah. All right, but the last they were up two zero against the Padres. We started flirting with. Why this feels different, and then they lost that night, and then they won against the Padres, and now they're up two zero on the Dodgers.
I think I would just like to say that this does still feel different. I think one of the reasons it feels different is everyone feels like it feels different. Everyone, everyone is a collective. Everyone's like trending positive. It feels like I don't feel like we're bracing ourselves for a downfall.
And when I say it feels different, it also feels similar. It feels similar to 2010 to me. It feels similar to 2021 for me. I remember in 2021, Game Six for the Finals. We all knew we were going to win that game.
The Bucks. There was no Game Seven to come. We were going to win that game, and I feel like Brewers fans. The crowd has been excellent.
So good job. But I just I feel like collectively we're all in the same place. I we're talking we're talking trying to price out World Series tickets and and even I think I think I was texting you guys. I say like, well, I because I keep saying I can only tell you how I feel. Obviously, we don't know what's going to happen.
You do say that, but even in saying we don't know what's going to happen, I just have a really hard time. Wisconsin sports misery that we've all collectively felt and all. The the Brewers are up two nothing on a Dodgers team that looks like we did a year ago. They can't do anything. Yeah, it just it would take the fuck this.
If this didn't happen, this would be the new worst. This would be worse than twenty fourteen.
Now I'm I'm thinking if this didn't happen because I am, I what did I say? What did I text? I feel like we've already won.
Now we just have to actually do it. I think you said that. That's the price of admission, though. The price of of going where no team or or no man has gone before is, if it doesn't work out, it's going to hurt more than it's ever hurt before. You know what I mean?
Like you got to visualize you're going to be on the moon. And and if you don't, you can't. Like Ed Baldwin of For All Mankind thought he was going to be on the moon, and then he wasn't. Exactly. But Neil Armstrong of real life knew he was going to be on the moon, and then they did it.
Real life. I I did allow myself sounds of the Paramount Warner Brothers lot about. Two or three minutes last night after the game, maybe I was in the shower. I did allow myself to imagine the Brewers have won the World Series. It's down the line.
Christian Yelich's number has been retired, and I am taking my son, who's named Christian, to the ballpark, pointing to the facade. This is a daydream. I was about two minutes. I allowed myself to think this last night. Hey, look at that number twenty-two up there.
And then I snapped out of it. I said, "All right, that that's enough. We got to rein that in." Because you know the Dodgers win Game Three, and all of a sudden you know we're gonna. No, yeah, we'll be.
Well, oh, if we're two things that I think, not that we accomplished on the plus game last night, but I would like to push forward. And this isn't like jinxing anything. This is just preparing. You know, you should always be prepared. I think if the Brewers, we'll still say F today.
If they make the World Series. I don't want any name brands throwing any first pitch. I want like I want like Chris Magruder's and Eric Kratz. He might even be too pop. I want like guys that you know only if you were in this.
Eric Thanes, Nigel Morgan, Chris Carter.
Someone referenced. These guys from the '90s, Turbo, Axford, those are even too big. You need like Canabel, too big, still okay. Jeez, you need like Denelson Lamet kind of guys.
Well, that's you need Jonathan Scope. You need Ray Durham. You need David Bell. You need Tony Gaffanino. Oh, who was the who was the one guy they called up the second baseman, the really short guy, Zach Or?
No, what was his name? Nedorf. Nedorf. You need Nedorf. There you go.
You need those kind of guys throwing the first pitch in the World Series.
So that was thought number one. How does that phone call go, by the way? When Nate Orf picks up the phone and "Hi, Nate," it's Rick Schlesinger with the Milwaukee Brewers. Do you like? Do you think Nate thinks he's being punked?
Yeah, for sure. He's at his office. He's at his office job somewhere. Like, it would just be an odd conversation. Nate Orf excavating.
How may I help you? This is Nate. And then Rick would say, "I was listening to the into the Winklerverse podcast, and this guy had a great idea, which was." You have to be like a real, like D minus Brewers celebrity, yeah, to throw the first pitch, and you were the first guy that came to mind, Nate. Like, I want them to call Brewers that forget the average fan not remembering their Brewers, but these guys themselves barely remember they were Brewers. That's the kind of stuff I want.
Number two, okay, number one.
Okay, you got it. Should there be a World Series parade? That needs to go down Blue Mound Avenue. That needs to go past Kelly's Bleachers, past Dugout Fifty Four, down General Mitchell, into the parking lot at the stadium. Not downtown.
Not Summerfest grounds. Not it needs to be by the ballpark.
So those are my two. Pie in the sky thoughts. The third pie in the sky thought is that we might win the fucking World Series. This is this. They've been here before, but they also haven't.
They've never been up two zero in an LCS. They have never been here before. No.
So they almost were before Justin Turner hit that bomb off Jeremy Jeffress in two thousand eighteen. Um, some things I didn't mention last night that I need to talk about more. Um. When Contreras or Tereng walked, they walked the bases loaded to get a double play, and then Contreras poked one in. That was great.
Roberts screwed up there. Also, Frelick's catch in right. He had like a. I thought Chris Taylor in my head. Sneaky, like not underrated, but like sneaky massive play in that game.
Where I think a run or several. I think Brewers fans watched that said, "Nice play, Sal," and then we didn't think about it again. Where if that had happened to my team, it's all I would have thought about for the next three days, or later in the game. Yeah, but it was so early. They were.
That's one thing the Brewers have been very well at doing in the playoffs: is if you get a run, you get a run. We're not gonna, we're not gonna go crazy here. And the Brewers, you know, I don't. I think they've been playing well. I don't know that they've been playing their best.
I don't know that, but they're they're playing well. It's just oh, Cooper Prats, you know, having a hard time, and some of these guys at the plate and whatever. Miz didn't go five, but they there's clearly a strategy to foul balls off, and then we did that on Yamamoto. That Bowers that bad, obviously. I'm assuming Paul did watch the game.
By the way, I probably that was a mistake. Game one. If you're new to the Winklerverse, Paul is an insane person. By the way, doesn't watch. And if you're new to the Winklerverse, we're giving you no more like welcomes.
Now you've been here long enough; you're part of it. In 12 minutes, we're brought to you by Happy Place M. Promo code Bart: twenty five percent off each and every order. HappyPlaceM dot com. Also, Carl's Place continues to bring you the episodes that you.
Claim to enjoy, Paul. You got some questions for us. It was announced that next summer, Matchbox Twenty. This is. I would like to talk about this, but we'll we'll hold it because the Brewers are up two zero.
Can we hold it until like until June, February? Yeah. Well, there's a couple paths that we can go. I want to go in the direction of. I don't want to put.
Okay, the biggest surprise of this postseason. The biggest, man, the surprise. I don't want to say the the biggest unexpected positive of this postseason. And Grant, I'm partially asking you this question, and I'm not trying to paint you into a corner because I know you don't like that. I'm not trying to say anything that you've ever previously said about the being painted it.
Paint me into a corner. I don't care. Yeah, I think you're going to take offense a little bit when I say it. You've had some William Contreras takes. Yes, the the biggest, the most important thing that has happened in this postseason for the Brewers is that William Contreras has been unreal.
That's the t here is a lot of great things that have happened. A lot of players have. I think the yeah, he has been unreal. He's been he's been unreal at the plate, and some of his challenges are unreal. Unreal all around.
So among among obviously the the most team sport of team sports in which you can really only contribute you know in your lane and hope that the rest of your teammates follow suit. But the biggest turning point, the biggest breakthrough of this postseason, the reason the Brewers are are where they are is because William Contreras has been otherworldly. Or would you like me to go first? After last night, it's really hard not to say with last night. If you look at every single game, I think it it might still be William Contreras, but Aaron Ashby is he's yeah so close for sure.
He's he's right there now. Contreras, for as much as I've complained about parts of his game. He has that competitive. Like, are you shocked that he's locked in and raised his level in the postseason? I, I am not.
Like, part of me, it's the same with Churio. Part of me thinks these guys are better in the postseason because they're forced to lock in and dial in and and and really rise up. Maybe whereas a a random Tuesday in June doesn't demand that of them, and they can get a little, you know, they can get a little fast and loose.
So I'm I'm not surprised that Contreras is doing this. I am surprised that Ashby is. Pitched as well as he has and covered as much ground as he has, and then the fact that he has done that has made life easier on so many other arms in the bullpen and on the starters.
So I think after last night, I have to say Contreras, but the only other player who had come close is is Aaron Ashby, and it is close.
So did Ashby also have a good game too? I'm live through game one. I'm just kidding. I think I think that's I think that's the right answer. But let's see what the Winkler verse.
Mastermind says Bart. The biggest reason the Brewers are where they are, up two zero against the Dodgers, is because William Contreras has been otherworldly. Or yeah, I want to give a lot of credit to Contreras. First of all, you could it pained him in that first and second inning last night. He was like he had his he had his.
There were so many pitches he wanted to challenge. And he would have been right on a bunch of them, but he—he's already burning them through these first innings. He just represents. Like I don't think he's the heart and soul. I still think like, well, Yelich is in there, and Murphy and Eucher and all this shit.
But Contreras, Contreras says when when I where we're at right now, when people think of the Brewers. I want them to think of, I want them to think. Fuck William Contreras. I want, I want them to think. God, that guy!
Oh, he's popping. He's got three home runs this postseason now. Um, he's challenging. He's the catcher, so you see him every play.
So he's gonna annoy the piss out of you. Yeah, if you already hate him, and then this thing where he's breaking his own records of long trots around the bases. Love that. Which, of course, you'd hate if you were the other team's fan base.
Well, this is something that I've talked about extensively, especially speaking to the one-time national audience. That was before I have now the global audience of YouTube. But people don't like Wisconsin sports. And I don't know why. We're very harmless.
You don't think people like the Brewers? No.
Interesting. Because I I felt it with the Bucks that they were scrutinized and they were picked. I I tell me more about the Brewers. I'm interested. People don't like that we're like plucky or that we cry poor and the the under the underdog the underdog bit that thing.
Yeah, even though that is true. I mean the Brewers. This is what they could afford, and they they did well to make it work. The Dodgers might bench Shohei Otani. That's a that's a topic I have, but yeah, go ahead.
And can afford to. Yeah, you have Kyle Tucker batting eighth, right? Two hundred forty million dollars. Our our eighth batter is a yearly spin the wheel of some buck ninety utility guy that hits lower than his weight. That's our eighth hitter.
Yeah, over the years, okay. How many years of Brewers eight hitters would it take to accumulate two hundred and forty million dollars of Kyle Tucker in the eight? Wow!
But then the other thing with the Brewers is an eternity of Brewers baseball. And this is what I don't get. This is what I don't get about the national like average person. Yeah, are we really gonna have Brewers Guardians? Imagine the ratings.
On what fucking planet do you average person even you don't even know the you don't even know what that means you don't even know how ratings are calculated you don't even know why ratings are a thing it's for ad dollars set during the show for the next go around and baseball and live sports are it doesn't live a lower rated World Series is not going to cost MLB or the owners rights like. The NBA had a lowly-rated finals of. Nuggets heat, and then they made more money than ever before. And you're telling me that you, as the average baseball fan, would rather see the Dodgers again? There's no way.
I don't. I refuse to believe that that's true. Rays or Brewers Guardians. I refuse to believe that that is true.
Well, I will. It's hard for me to think that someone had watched the last two games of the Brewers and think, "Well, I don't want to see that team in the World Series." Like you kidding me? There's that's electric. I do. I did switch over to the AL after last night, and I'm like, oh, like it's like when you drive to the other side of town, you're like, smells.
I turned on the AL last time; it smells like broke in here. Like, there's no life in the stadium. It's dark. I don't know any of these. I know some of the players, but like, like when you yeah.
Like when you have a really popular restaurant and it's a local restaurant and they're not a chain restaurant, but there's enough demand to open a second location on the other side of town, and that location is dog shit. Yeah, Fondulac mentions would be either Eaton's Pizza or Tucker's Hamburgers. Interesting. I just I really hate when restaurants go to that second location. If you don't have plans to chain, then stay the one.
I know. There's a second. There's a second Bennett O'Reilly's in the cross now. It's actually pretty nice. Bennett Southside.
They serve food. It's down by uh. It's the building where the old Mirage was. The Mirage. They built a new building.
It's in the old Mirage. It's nice. It's actually nice. It's more of a restaurant though than a bar.
So then there's just brand. I don't like that either. Bennett Southside. Pretty nice. You can open, you can open, manage, and run any franchise restaurant across the street from you.
It's yours to own and manage. That restaurant is. Culvers. But it can be national, it can be local, it can be a second one from whatever you want it to be. But it's Culvers, okay?
Bart Winkler. If I had to, what? You're you're you're franchising a restaurant that you're going to run, own, manage. It's across the street from your house. You'll eat there all the time.
You'll be there all the time. You'll eat there all the time. Oh, am I a businessman or am I a consumer? Because if I'm a consumer, the answer is Perkins. I can get anything I want any time of day.
It's the most well-rounded. Presumably, you're gonna eat there a lot. Am I make? Am I wanting to make money and run a successful franchise, or am I? Is this for my own?
Ideally, you. Factory's got everything. Everything. Ideally, both. Grant.
Well, you and I mean Culver's is great. I'd say Culver's.
Well, I already lived across the street from my dream, and that was Whitney Hall. Oh, so little lacrosse, little little little lacrosse for you. I'm not answering the question. Do I think you said to William Contreras being the the main reason? I think he meant more about the oh yeah the franchise restaurant.
It's not the Brewers are not where they are without William Contreras. I mean that's. I'm sorry if if you said they're the reason they're up two zero on the Dodgers and you were specifically saying this series, then yes, I would think Contreras. I just think Ashby has been effing unbelievable. Yeah.
So, but but so Brewers team MVP to this point in the postseason is. You can disagree. You can you can it, but it's because Contreras one, Ashby two, Chiril three, or well, Contreras is also calling these games as the catcher.
Well, kinda. I mean, it's not like it used to be. Like, I'm saying there's more input externally in the dugout than there has historically traditionally been in baseball, which he mostly ignores. To be fair, so okay, yeah. I mean, I I get it.
I'm not discrediting. I'm just saying being a dick. Yeah, I really am glad you said something last night. It's happened a shitload of times this year in baseball, where Yamamoto's in this twelve pitch at bat, and all of a sudden I can't hear. Yeah, yeah, I can't hear.
There should be a punishment for like if if then the umpire puts in the he's like, let me test it, and if you are lying, it's a balk. There is got to be something. Yeah, there is got to be ejected. Yeah, jail. You lose your challenges.
You do they have other languages for these pitch comms, or how does that work too? What are they actually hearing? Isn't it just beeps or something? Change up. No.
Can I say? Can I say something else? Like Matt Berry is Clumb Fandango. Please, Bart, go ahead. This is going to be edgy.
I can tell. Oh, you don't want to say this, but you feel like you have to. Even though he not yet said it, and there's still plenty of time to not say it. But, um, I get really annoyed when people pretend they don't know English. Oh, like you don't have to be fluent in it, but and you can still feel comfortable with a translator.
But you better hope Dan Levy doesn't see that. There's a. Think about Bard. Is he's a massagenist? I mean, show.
We're talking about Show Hay, right? Um, Show Hay, Show Hay for sure knows English. She's nobody needs to hear from Yamamoto. No one's like I want to hear what he has to say. Like people want to hear from Show Hay, and he's like, "Sammy," when he was like, "I only play baseball." What are you doing, Sammy?
Tim, I I commit I commit fraud. He he can speak perfect. He can speak English just fine. You you think Dalton Rushing is speaking Japanese to him in the dugout? How do you think he's talking to all of his teammates?
Yeah. Although languages languages useless because now we're just going to put AI things in our ear and translate. They think they're going to be able to have a thing where you can like. Understand what animals are saying? Would you sign up for that, or is that a bridge too far?
I mean, mm-hmm, mm-hmm. I think that's unnatural. Listen, I, I saw a movie once. Really interesting concept. Stop.
Yeah, go ahead. I'm just referring to Doctor Doolittle. That's I was going to say. Is it Robert Downey Jr.? Yeah, or or Eddie Murphy.
Or what about the one a hundred years ago? Right, they all they all stunk. Every single one of them was bad. It didn't matter. I do want to know what my dog is saying.
That'd be great. How did those pitch meetings happen? Like, fuck. We need another movie. One more movie this year.
Have you tried remaking Doctor Doolittle?
Well, we just did ten years ago, but with Robert Downey Jr. this time. But wait, but did it do well last time? No.
No, no, but but even if it like didn't do a box office, like people enjoyed it, right? Also, no, no, did it, but was it so damaging that the residue of ten years ago will still affect this one today? Yeah, undoubtedly, no one wants to see this. Green light, yeah, get that project moving. What if my dog doesn't like me?
I don't want to know that. Yeah. What if you What if you put the thing in your dog's ear, and he goes, "You gotta keep jerking off around me." Sick.
Okay, that's that was literally my first thought. I wasn't gonna say it though. It was my the first thought that came into my head. Yeah, well, we locked eyes. You know, I know.
Ruff, ruff. I'll go in the living room again. You disgusting pig! I'm like, oh, I. All right, Tim.
The bonus, the bonus win of this series is that the Brewers. I mean, it's not just from this series alone. It's not a two-game sample size that has gotten Shohei Ohtani on the verge of reportedly being out of the starting lineup. But the fact that the Brewers have elevated a conversation about. One of the greatest players of our lifetimes into being benched during the National League Championship Series is a fun little side win to the current two-zero lead.
Or I don't think it's the Brewers doing. I think he's he is he is playing like he's he he's. He's uptight, like there's an investigation going in. I I don't know. I mean, if if you tell me in three weeks, I'll actually show he did gamble, and he and he found out.
And he found out. Did you see how he played for two months? He couldn't hit a home run anymore. He found out on October seventh that it was real, and he was about to get in. You see what pissed me off?
What Brent Grant? Look at what JoJo Romero did to him last night. Like he almost dropped the bat on his swing when he struck out there. Show hey, I saw him in a New Balance commercial. Really?
Why do you need to do commercials? You have enough money, and you don't know how much money you even have, right? If you're not into money, like Giannis is doing commercials because he knows every single penny in his bank account. That one where he's on the grease for Kelsey—that commercial pisses me off. I think the thing that we.
Agree on perhaps most out of the many things we agree on is this idea that people who are so absurdly don't need to work levels of wealth, and yet constantly are like, I'll I'll do that commercial, or like I'll like I'll travel to London to be the extra play-by-play commentator for the. Jaguars Eagles game. I'm just like like Jason Kelsey. Like it's great, it's fine, but like I can't imagine having that status, that wealth. You can just literally show up.
How much do they get paid for just doing their podcast, like and nothing else? That they don't have to. No one listens to. It doesn't matter. Like who?
I mean, like yeah.
So many.
So many.
I mean, no. You guys hear what they said on the latest New Heights? No.
Like no. No one. People listen to. Pardon my take. You can go up to your friends and be like, "Did you hear someone on?
Pardon my take." That no. But I at least saw they were on. Like I don't know who listens to New Heights. I don't know where that's played or who's streaming that.
Well, I don't know who listens to. What's the like the.
Well, Paul probably does. Smartless. My mom likes Smartless. I have, I have. It's been a while.
But these guys get like forty million dollars to do a podcast. More than like you know, it's like we we we quote Arrested Development constantly. And between Bateman and Arnett, like how much did they make from three and then an additional two Netflix seasons? Like probably like one net one Smartless episodes worth of money. To have done multiple seasons of television in the early two thousands, it's like no, you can just sit down and like do a fifty minute conversation on your podcast and make more than you did in this highly quoted generational television show.
I do this ethically for the fun of the game, not well.
Well, I'm you know I'm trying to survive here, but as someone who's doing a podcast essentially for a living right now, I often wonder like. How did this become a form of entertainment? Like the main form of it, it's just people talking. Even not doing anything cool. This seems like this seems like just sitting here in a screen.
Now it seems more normal. But my realization of that was when I don't know nine years ago, my wife and I went to the live recording of the Dax Shepherd podcast. Like in at a theater, and it's like I I might even I'm sure I texted you about it at the time, but it was this idea that like I met a show that's being recorded that they're just sitting on stage and talking to each other while recording their podcast. What the what is this? Like it's then again like late night talk shows and talk shows forever have just been people talking.
And the other thing, and I'm gonna I'm gonna build on that for a second and say. We've talked about this one other time. I still think the greatest scam in sports is that people willingly pay hundreds of dollars to go to be extras on the movie set of this game. When, when you are watching a late-night talk show, they are all there for free. Like that's a free event that you show up and you're.
I didn't appreciate this take of yours at the time. I brought this up to someone in the sauna last week. Actually, I didn't credit you. They they don't know you, but we were talking about crowds, and I'm like, isn't it crazy that we they should pay us to go? I mean, you see these grown men paint their faces and put on these crazy wardrobes so that they can get two seconds on the screen, in which you can't even tell it's them.
If you were their buddy, like maybe you'd say like, oh, that's that's Bill, but like that in general. I don't understand why that is. If you were to rewind and like repaint this, you like, okay, so seventy five thousand people are gonna pay money to show up to the movie set, to the TV recording, to this show. We need them there, by the way. This product sucks without them there.
But we're not gonna let them come for free, even though we desperately need them there for the product to be good for TV. They're gonna pay a lot of money to go there. That's nuts! Like even SNL is like a dream thing to watch live. Those are free.
You got to do a raffle. They're free. Free. Yes. Any any like recorded in front of a live studio audience show in the history of television has been free to go to.
But also like the demand. Married with Children, nineteen ninety four. If you could go to any show, game show, sitcom taping. Um, I don't know. I've been to several in the past.
I'm trying a new thing. Many years ago, I'm actually trying a new thing where I'm applying to game shows as a contestant. Ah, yeah, I applied to be on Netflix Monopoly, and I was really proud of my application, and I never heard back. How would you do on Jeopardy? Bad.
Wheel. Very good. Do that then. Oh, I would. I would be.
I play wheel on one of these apps, and I just fucking smoke. I do. I smoke. I'm so good. Like sometimes I play wheel and I like surprise the show.
Like wow, how did I get that? I'm so fucking good. And I like want to tell people. Like I want to screenshot. I'm.
Oh yeah.
Someone finally asked. I'm glad this. Thank you. Did you know? Because I worry.
I I talk about myself too much. I.
Because someone just fucking asked me about what I'd want to be on, I won't be on Wheel. You have my permission to share your screenshots in our group chat. And I was like, "What do you think this is, bitch?" Because I got in two fucking letters. Yeah, not even R S T L N or E.
Son R L Stein is always how I read that. Stein. The category is around the house. Potent potables. Yeah, gotta have potent potables.
Thing. I hate the fucking cat. They're not helpful. The categories aren't helpful. And then, like, there's sports Jeopardy.
Not for me. But I'm not. These people are so fucking stupid. I'm not. If I'm gonna watch Jeopardy, I need it to be on linear TV.
Okay.
I'm gonna be like, that's the appeal. Oh, Jeopardy's on. Nice. Oh, okay. It has to be a surprise.
Or like, what time is it? Five fifty-five. Oh, Jeopardy's coming on in a few minutes. All right, I have a seat. Not, not.
Oh, I better, I better get some free time tonight so I can go to Hulu to watch Sports Jeopardy. Who's fucking doing that? In reference, also all too many of the game shows these days are with celebrities. Celebrity Wheel or Fortune, Celebrity Weakest Link, Millionaire. I watched a Celebrity Millionaire.
It was Matt Damon and Ken Jennings, and and I guess Matt Damon has beef with Jimmy Kimmel or like this fake beef, and they spent the whole episode just like shitting on each other. It's like I just want to see Ken Jennings. I want to see if Ken Jennings can do this right now any day easily.
Okay, I just watched one. And then we'll get back to whatever. But I just I just watched one with Jillian Jacobs and Danny Pudi. The Pudi, yep, from Community. Yeah, I know him.
And Marquette alum. Marquette.
So I I like I tape. I love Millionaire also. And so I tape the ones. And if I'm bored, I will go to my DVR.
So it's like counter what I just said, but it's different because DVR is different than streaming. Good take. Yes, thank you.
So, I was watching one with those two, and they kept like, I think they were doing a bit where they were they were doing after every question. They'd be like, "Uh huh." They'd always make noise, and then they were being really weird about how I had to turn it off. It was so fucking annoying. I went online. I was looking like, "What was this?
Was this a bit?" Very niche thing. This aired a year and a half ago, and I'm bringing up now. I believe there was a commercial for Kamala Harris during the episode, which I hope stays in the past. I was gonna say in that episode of Millionaire Watch, it was like a month ago. Ken Jennings did the smartest thing.
They had a question. They had like two questions left, and they had all their lifelines. And they thought, well, we could ask the audience on this one, right? But they didn't. They didn't talk about it first.
Ken Jennings goes. Matt Damon. Imagine doing this, Matt, Matt, Matt Damon. If we're gonna ask the audience, we should do it right away, is to not prejudice them towards a particular answer. And I am like, that's how I just saw.
That's how they.
Some other couple lost or whatever. It's brilliant. It's brilliant. Sorry, Paul. Matt Damon.
Matt Damon. Matt Damon. Speaking of things that like TV shows, like I was, I have been to taping of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, like fifteen years ago. Was it Meredith? Yes, yes.
Millionaire. What else? And the topic of I want to finish the show. Hey, thing and say like a year ago, you say, "Hey, on this date a year from now, the Brewers will be up two zero." In the NLCS against the Dodgers, and there will be an athletic article greeting you in your morning email inbox that says the Dodgers considering benching Shohei Otani. This is a thing that will never happen, or like it's not just like the lead; it's that you're talking about.
A generically, truly, if even if people overuse generational talent, it has never been more true than it is with a player like they're considering benching him for a guy who wears the number 95. Who would be the who would who would be the DePaula? The Paula. Yeah, he's. I mean, he's.
Yeah. Who I just found out about on Sunday.
Well, that makes sense. He's a rookie, right? I don't know who. And he was called. He's not a national.
You're not a national host anymore. You can't be expected to know global host. Global host has. I did have when I shit on because Fox had that report. They're like, "Well, the Brewers just missed on Tariq Scoobal." No, I and I said no, they didn't miss.
The Tigers gave him away for nothing, and I had a lot of Tigers fans like sending me. Minor league tape on River Ryan. I'm like, I don't give a fuck about this 30 year old rookie, top 70 prospect. Yeah. By the way, I do think that would be if Logan Henderson was in the deal.
Who knows? We'll see. But I'm glad they didn't. We were even glad Logan Henderson as the major league yips like that catcher, except only in the first base and not back to the mound. You can't throw over there.
It would have been it would have been hard to believe a year ago at this time, Paul, that that would be taking place. Yeah, it is a it is a beyond like the fact that how close forty four years later the Brewers are to getting back to the World Series. The fact that it is against the Dodgers, like I know we were sort of dreading the what if has to be Cubs again and then the Dodgers again, and that is you know. Carries weight from previous years going into it, but if you do actually get through and it is the Dodgers, it clearly is. I mean, again, you're you're taking from this wonderful universe either way.
If the Brewers in the World Series, who cares? But there is an extra bonus to it that, like, if along the way you put Shohei Ohtani on the bench for a rookie and you did it against the same team that four owed you the year before. There's, you know, again, it's not. I almost think, and I was trying to tell this to my kid. Like I was just trying to tell him, as I was like, "What's happening now?" I did not see the playoffs until I was 24, and he doesn't.
He that doesn't. He that means nothing, right? He doesn't care. But I was telling him, like when I was growing up. We kept running into the Cowboys.
The Packers kept running into the Cowboys, and we wanted to play the Cowboys as fans because we wanted to beat the Cowboys. I don't know that the Packers could have beaten the Cowboys back in '96. I think for the Brewers. They not playing the Cubs wasn't just a thing that we we didn't want to see that we didn't want to go through that as fans again. That's one thing, but I don't think the Brewers wanted to deal with that either.
I don't think the Brewers wanted to deal with the Cubs. That was they've already beat them. They didn't want to go through it again. But I do think the Brewers they could play any other team in the National League and they'd still like try to win a World Series. Obviously.
But they, it helps that it's the Dodgers. They specifically want it to be the Dodgers because they want to right the wrong. They want it to be this team. It's getting the most. I think there's such a small margin of you're you're trying to go to the World Series against the Padres.
Can you try a little harder if it's the Dodgers? It's like insane. But it is. I think it's just a little bit. It's just a little bit there.
That the Dodgers is the opponent that we are most likely going to beat to get there in a weird way. Like David can beat Goliath, but can he beat like Ken or Michael or Paul or Peter?
Some just fucking ten foot guy? No, he has to beat the fucking giants.
Okay.
Good take, thank you. I I also and I agree with your take from the post game show last night. I think this might be a bit of a perfect storm. We're assuming the Brewers are going to go on to to win the series. Let's just talk.
You know the fact that they're up two zero. Watching the Dodgers leave the field last night, they just look they look tired, man. They the the Brewers are like uh they're like an an adolescent young man who's just smelling the the you know the sweet smells of the earth for the first time. Like the the Brewers are just groined up. And I think the Dodgers, you know, maybe like the Chiefs a couple years ago, are like the Dodgers, the Dodgers, like yeah, I want to win a third straight.
But Jesus Christ, like I also have a mountain of money, and I love to go to Cancun for a week. You know what I mean? Like yeah, I don't want to. Jake Bauer's gonna fight off twelve pitches. I mean, for Christ's sake, like all right, all right, all right, all right.
Like fine, you can have this one. Yeah, like just kind of. Like Tanner, I'd really love it if you were home for trick or treat this year. Tanner Scott's wife's nagging at him. I gotta go to the World Series again, honey.
Yeah, that's my hope. I mean, watch the Dodgers come out and blow the doors off Robert Asser in Game Three, and it's a series. But you know, I'm interested if the Brewers get up a couple of runs. In Game Three, and it feels like, oh, here we go again. The series is going to continue along these trends.
I'm going to turn into Bill Simmons, the body language doctor. Are are the are the Dodgers? Not saying they're going to give up, but I just think the human the human element in the series is very real. You have one baseball team that could quite literally not be any hungrier. There's there's no way a team could be hungrier to try to do what the Brewers are doing, and the Dodgers.
I can't think of a team that's Less hungry, like yeah, okay. If you put a steak in front of me, I'll eat it. But like, good God, man! Like, we've been at this for three or four years now. The last thing I'll say on the and the MLB playoffs, there is something to the idea as the as the they're likely heading toward a lockout, right?
But there is something to be said that if it's Brewers Rays. A lockout is less likely, or there's something to be said for this idea that too small. No, the lockout doesn't matter.
Okay, there's no value to it. No, no, no hidden bonus to like.
Well, I mean, if these two teams can do it, then how do you say?
Well, with only the big market teams can win. Only the big payroll teams can win. I mean, it'll change the conversation a little, but it's still happening. It'll it'll do numbers on on shows like these, Paul. A show that'll have a very it'll like a very real, practical fact.
Do you do you think the owners really give a shit about competitive balance? Like, do you really think the owner of the Pirates is like, well, I want to win? It's like, no, they want an excuse. What about the fact that if the Brewers go, the Brewers could go to the World Series? Obviously, if they play Cleveland, there's the major league thing to it.
But that's who. Chicago beat in the World Series ten years ago. There's there's something like we're gonna play the same team Chicago played to win. Interesting, a team that wouldn't have made the playoffs in the NL, by the way. One eighty five games, just like oh well.
Which team are you referring to, Grant? The Guardians. The Guardians. Okay.
I'm very optimistic, by the way, that there's a good amount of Brewers fans in LA these next couple of nights. Yeah, you see Mad Max's tweet about how the the tickets are cheap and Badger. Like, if you're a Badger fan going out for the UCLA game, fuck it, let's just go out early. Let's go. You know, I mean, there's a lot of there's a lot of Wisconsin transplants in California.
There's a lot in Arizona. There's a lot in cones going, boots on the ground. To the he is game three. Yeah. Oh, that's awesome.
That's awesome. Yeah, dude. I, cause we're here, gonna be like, fuck, two grand to go, standing room only World Series game. Like, but it's on everyone's bucket list. That's the other problem is we all want the free tickets for this.
But if you're out somewhere else, you get to see the Brewers, like, possibly clinch. I think that I think I am optimistic. It's not going to be like seventy thirty or something stupid, but no. But you get to the point where if the Brewers have some big plays, you'll hear a reaction. That's about as well as you can do in a in a road game.
Speaking of Chicago, by the way, I wonder what he thinks about all this. You mentioned the Cubs. What do you what does he think? I've gotten two reports. That council is grocery shopping like a normal person.
He was at he was at Metro at Shorewood last week, and then he was at the new Sendix in Whitefish Bay. Also, you saw him recently, didn't you? Like a few weeks ago. No, he was at Metro, and then I raced there to go try to see him. He's the one buying.
He's the one buying all the diet do bottles. By the way, might be. But why, if you're Craig Council, like, first of all, you're making eight million dollars a year. You can afford to deliver groceries to your house and skip that tedious chore of the week. Second, people don't like you here.
What are you doing out in public? Do they like him to his face, though? Do they trash him behind his back and then ask him for, you know, baseball discussion when they see him in person? Even if that's the even if people like him and he's at some and he's at Sendix or he sees someone he knows growing up in Whitefish Bay, they're gonna say something to him about the Brewers. Why would he want that?
And and they might even say, "Hey, thanks for leaving. We might not be this far, Craigers." Why would you? What is he doing? What if Craig Council throws out a first pitch in the Brewers World Series? Whitefish Bay Zone, Craig Council Cubs catcher.
Plausible to think of Charles Tillman. Welcome back. That was bullshit. That was that was pretty.
Well, you don't understand. It was a sponsor's request. That's fucking worse. That's worse, Bart Grant. Name a person that should be lower on the list of who should throw at a Brewers World Series first pitch than Craig Counsell.
Does that person exist? Yes, Charlie Barons. You know what, though? He will throw. I mean, that's.
I know he was up there doing some shit. What are the odds on him not throwing? Yeah, it's got to happen. Obviously. He doesn't even.
That's that's another thing. He doesn't even do his shtick anymore. Like you got popular for doing Manitowoc Minute. Do him. I have watched less than sixty seconds of his content in my life.
I barely. I mean, I'm well aware of who he is, but I have no idea what he does beyond the fact that he talks about Wisconsin stuff, and then it's like, oh, isn't that funny? It's from Wisconsin. Do Sheboygan people think very little of Manitowoc? Is that is that what's at play here?
I have no idea. I I'm perfect. I like Manitowoc Fondulac Oshkosh situation. I liked Manitowoc growing up. I played a lot of tennis in Manitowoc growing up.
I didn't spend a lot of time in the walk. Sixty seconds or less. Coming off a Packers trouncing of the Bears, in which we can quick squeak in a Packers topic, that game has that game has changed your opinion of the Packers' season. It was a big enough trouncing of the Bears, who we all agreed last week was the best team in the NFC North. Yes, we did.
Caleb Williams was that? Yes, we said. We all agreed. This literally last week, the best team in the NFC North is the Bears. Yeah, they're not good.
So this game has changed your opinion of the Packers' outlook for this season, or clearly changed Bart's opinion on the Bears. Because yes, you did a week ago think the Bears, as I did, as Grant did, as we all did. Consensus. This did not change my opinion. Um.
This is the most I'm happy about one singular win that I've been in a while. There's something pure about that, by the way. Isn't there something nice about that that you can just celebrate one win without necessarily having to worry about? Kind of mean, yeah. I still think they're going to win nine games and lose in the first round of the playoffs.
And you thought that before this game, and I thought that before this game, even at two and two, as ugly as it was. They're going to win three games. They'll probably, you know, oh, oh, oh. That's the one other thing I want to get to you guys before we're done. And I've said this before, but people are now talking about what's going to happen for Game Six if the Brewers and Packers are on at the same time.
First of all, we're at the point now with the Brewers having won two that Game Six is. Either an elimination game or a clinching game, right? Is there any other math where it's not? Would be it could be a clinching game in theory for the Dodgers being up three two. If that, if you want to be dark, so it's an elimination game for us.
Yeah, it's an elimination game or for somebody or a yes. There's no way you can't get the game six without it being an elimination game because it's three two. Correct.
So. You are telling me in Game Six, people are still gonna watch Packers Cowboys? No, because there is gonna be bars that go, can't decide. We've got both. Fuck both.
Fuck both. You don't need to watch Week fucking Six if the Brewers have a chance to go to the World Series. Yeah. Having said that, it would it would be an easier call for a state that has always traditionally been Packers number one. Obviously, that if it was Packers Falcons, the fact that it is Packers Cowboys, if it was Packers Bears, Packers Cowboys, I'm not even sure that there's a third game on that list that it would make it at least like a discussion, but that it's like the two Americas teams, you know, like that's it at least makes it a worthy.
Discussion, even though it should still be unanimously. Of course, you turn on the Brewers game, but yeah. Like I don't. Unless I mean, unless it is three two Dodgers, then I can see the argument for like okay. I don't really like.
It's not that wouldn't be a fun viewing experience. Like even if the Brewers win in that theoretical that game six to force a game seven, it wouldn't be a fun watch. You know, that would be a stress watch. Yeah. Anyway, that's granted.
Grant, did you answer that your your point of view changed on the Packers' outlook for the season based on that win? Because, because I'm not with Bart. I didn't think they were going to. I thought they were worse.
So the fact that Lafleur got the boys up to play and yeah, that does something for me. I don't love. I don't love that we've just we don't we don't pass the ball between five and twenty yards anymore. It's either. A behind the line of scrimmage screen pass, or fuck it, let's see what happens.
I don't love that.
Okay, they are they are reliant on the big play. Yes, it's also their strength. They have the personnel for it. Paul, have a good vacation. Thank you.
Go Brewers! Is your entire vacation itinerized out to the minute? To the second, Grant. We'll talk at some point. Look forward to it.
Talk to you soon, Paul. Bye, friends. Thanks for stopping into the Winklerverse.
