Good afternoon, everybody. Welcome into the Winklerverse. We're here on a Thursday afternoon live. And in technicolor, great to be with you. Packers post-game preseason.
Tomorrow night, Friday night, live. I was going to do zero. Uh then I end up I'm gonna do all three But got to got to got to Due on tomorrow night, it is the La Fleur Bowl. As the Packers take on the Cardinals, it is the only preseason game at Lambeau this year. Remember, there's just three games.
In the preseasons now, and the Packers, unless you're in the Hall of Fame game, you get a fourth. But the Packers will be at home for their only home preseason contest. It is a Friday night. The last couple of years, they've had these noon games on a weekend or maybe earlier in the day. I did take my kid.
His only Packer game he ever has been to is a preseason game. It was a couple of years ago. There were a lot of kids there. It was a really great opportunity. I think it was a way to take Family Night, but then actually have a real game where, you know, there's going to be preseason ticket prices.
And not $10, but you take your kids there and they get to see somewhat of a game, and they get to watch a game.
Now, He's seven, going to be eight, nine, ten, eleven. I'm not, we're probably done with the preseasons, but it's good to get him to a game, see it. without you needing to be like shut up son it's third and nine I have to watch LaFleur Cola Jet sweep here. Or I have to watch a the running back go into the flat and We need a three-yard reception. from Josh Jacobs.
So, preseason, I think, is a good starter and then go from there. But the Packers have a game this Friday night.
Now, one of the things I don't like about the shortened preseason. Is that there's a bigger gap between the last game And when we actually see the Packers Again. And I'm already all messed up. I think Labor Day is Monday. It's not.
Monday is the last day of August. Labor Day is always the first Monday of September.
So we're not getting Labor Day until the 7th. Typically, that wouldn't throw me off too badly, but my kids start school next Tuesday. And not Monday. Did the school calendar not understand that it wasn't Labor Day?
So that's what's. Throwing me off here all over the place. But the Packers play on the 28th, and then not for another whole week. We'll get a Badgers Notre Dame game in there at Lambeau. But then the Packers kick off the season not until the 13th against the Minnesota Vikings on the road.
And that will be in the late afternoon. Window. Great to be with you again. I'm Bart Winkler. You are into the Winklerverse.

Place. If you'd like to get on board the Winklerverse, shoot me a note. I'm readily available. Possibly. too much Robert says, I just jumped in.
Did you announce any celebrity deaths? No, not today. The guy from Transformers. Yeah. The guy who does the voice of Optimus Prime and a bunch of other characters, and Tim Curry.
Passed away.
So we're losing a lot of people in Home Alone 2. Not all of them, but we're losing a lot of people in Home Alone 2 this year. Pigeon lady, Catherine O'Hara. And then um Tim Curry, who's in a really underrated movie, Clue. I hate the board game clue because I never can figure it out.
My brain cannot do clue, but I love the movie clue. And I love the last line of the movie is I'm going to go home and sleep with my wife. I was going to attribute that to Tim Curry, but it was actually Michael McKeon. Maybe a good rewatch of Clue. I have Clue sitting on the DVR.
So, the way that I watch movies isn't, I don't go to Netflix and chill. When I get the free movies from Showtime and HBO. For the weekend, I record what I want to watch. There's a few movies on there. Clue I've seen, I want to watch again.
I actually haven't seen The Naked Guns, and I want to watch that. And I've only watched Wolf of Wall Street in Instagram real form, so I'd like to watch the complete movie. on a 50 inch TV rather than a 13 inch. Um Not even that, a five-inch. Phone screen.
So that's the latest on the celebrity deaths. Elsewhere. This is Not a normal time I do a podcast, but I had to jump in. We call this an emergency pod. The emergency pot aspect is that We're changing yet another name.
Of a body of water. That's right. Lake Ontario. is now Lake America. Nobody will call it that, and it makes very little sense.
But this is what's happening. In US politics. As there is a tariff war with Canada for reasons. Um I mean, it's just not hitting the way it used to be. Trump's second term has quickly delved into like.
Season 17 Simpsons. Like the painstrokes are the same. You know. The animation's the same. Characters are the same.
But the voices are starting to fade. The plots aren't connecting as well. Doesn't seem like You know, the writer rooms aren't as connected as they used to be. It's just not, it's not the same. It's not hitting.
These are this. This probably should have been canceled. Years ago. But until then. Uh we get to do emergency pods for Um Breaking news on bodies.
of water. Actually, there's a new Simpsons out. On Disney Plus, this is like the sixth Disney Plus exclusive they've had. And it's, you ever read, I think this was an episode of Black Mirror. I've that's that I gotta see too.
But there was a story on Reddit, and I don't know which one came first. But there was a story where a guy lived his life. He lived his life. And then He started noticing. That this one lamp was like, he got fixated on this lamp in his house.
It just looked out of place.
Something wasn't right. And then he started to get like obsessed with it. Everything crumbled in his life, and he realized. He wasn't living, this was not his real life. He woke up from a coma and had imagined his entire life.
So he had a wife, he had kids. Who he adored, and they were just gone, and they never happened. But to him, that's a life he lived.
So the Simpsons did that, where Homer woke up. He was back in high school. Marge wasn't really Marge, the kids never existed. I thought it was really good. We're on like season 38 of The Simpsons, and a bunch of these episodes are.
Behind a paywall now. I think they're back. They're putting out good content. It's just that the problem is. This administration needs a poochie.
The poochie was Anthony Scaramucci, Anthony Poochie Mucci. Of the first one.
So, yeah, we need a poochie.
Well, what's her name? Natalie. Natalie's about to get sent back to her home planet. That seems like it might go down. Anyway, there are some good Simpsons happening.
It's just... Why would you still watch? But I watch every New Simpsons. I've seen every Simpsons. I watch them all.
And then and some of them are good. And I Text everyone I know and they don't They don't seem to care. Other news and notes. Um in the world of sport. We have a Brewers win in New York last night.
I'm in a fantasy playoffs. I picked up Dustin May.
So far, he's been solid for me. I'm down like eight one to one. I can still scratch my way back, but I need solid pitching to get there over the weekend. Dustin May was a guy I was relying on. Dustin May threw one pitch last night.
And that ball ended up Almost ripping his arm off.
So, Dustin May. left the game after one pitch. This rarely happens in baseball history. I think the last time they said on the broadcast was. There was a suspension that barreled over from the day before.
I vaguely remember that. But Dustin May Only got the one pitch, and then credit to Robert Gasser. I mean, five and a third, he goes in relief duty. He had a quality start as a reliever. He got the win.
Gave up six hitches, one earn, six K's. Anderson and Wilson. Who's back? Did a good job from there.
So, good job from the Brewers bullpen last night. Good job from their offense. Good job from Terrain. Got it going.
So the Brewers pick up an 8-1 win against the Mets. They're currently six and a half up of the Cubs. As of this recording.
Now, the interesting thing about the Cubs, and I said I'm not really scoreboard watching as much. Cubs played in the day yesterday. I did catch some of that. But if the Brewers win, I got no reason to poke around. and and check out what's going on anywhere else.
As long as the Brewers win. But now the Brewers are about to play. The Cubs a bunch of times in a bunch of days.
So if you're a Cubs fan, they could. Cubs could win the next seven games they play and have a lead in the division.
Now, that's not going to happen. But You have a cushion. Will this hold up?
So the Brewers have the Cubs starting on Monday. Finishing up the Mets tonight. Rangers this weekend. Cole Swindle postgame on Friday. Don't say I didn't warn you.
Big churrio weekend. Then you've got the Cubs for four at Wrigley. Series against the Reds, then back Cubs for three.
So, the Brewers are going to go straight from Texas to Chicago. They'll play for the next 10 days, seven of those games. will be against the Cubs. And we'll see from there. What goes down, but a big stretch coming up for the Milwaukee Brewers.
As we all watch that one pretty intently. I thought the story I don't know how much you guys know of the guy that pitched yesterday for the Mets. He had spent some time in the Brewers organization. His name is Robert Stock. Robert Stock was drafted He's first of all, he's 36.
Robert Stock was drafted as a catcher by the Cardinals. In the second round in 2009. He then spent time with the Cardinals. Then the Pirates Then he eventually became a pitcher. Played for the New Jersey Jackals of the Can-Am League, which no longer exists.
Got in the minor leagues for the Reds. Then minor leagues in the Padres.
Now we're up to 2017. This is Roberts stock. Eventually, cut, waived by the Phillies, cut, waived. Red Sox and COVID, cut, wave, sign, cut. Cubs, Mets, Ducan Bears.
He was with the Brewers in 2023, started with the Nashville Sounds. Was 0-3 with an 8.22 ERA in four starts, 11 games.
So we cut his ass. Long Island Ducks, then Tecoletes de los. Dos Laredos. of the Mexican League. Then he went and played for...
Naraneros di Hermosilo. He won the triple crown. He actually took fifth in, I believe, Mexican League MVP voting or Cy Young. First place was Trevor Bauer, which leads us to today's question. Should the Brewers take a look at Trevor Bauer?
414, 799, 1250. 414, 799, 1250. What say you? Should the Brewers? Take a look.
Ed Trevor. Bower. All right, now he's back with the Mets. He also pitched for Team Israel. into 2023 World Baseball Classic.
And since I'm already. Almost done with his Wikipedia page. He married a girl who he met on a blind date. She was on spring break in Palm Beach. while he was in the area for Cardinal Spring training.
Hey, it's Ryan Reynolds here for Mint Mobile.
Now, I was looking for fun ways to tell you that Mint's offer of unlimited premium wireless for $15 a month is back.
So I thought it would be fun if we made $15 bills. But it turns out, That's very illegal.
So there goes my big idea for the commercial. Give it a try at midmobile.com/slash switch. Upfront payment of $45 for three months, $90 for six months, or $180 for a 12-month plan required. $15 per month equivalent to taxes and fees extra. Initial plan term only greater than 50 gigabytes means slow when network is busy.

Pretty good situation for Robert Stock. Or for the girl, she goes down to Palm Beach, meets a baseball player. But it turns out to be Robert Stock. Peter Bukowski has a similar story meeting his wife, the massive disappointment that followed. He joins us now.
On the Winklerverse, Peter, good to see you, buddy. Yeah, disappointment for her, not for me. You're growing out your hair. A little bit, yeah. How are you doing, buddy?
I'm good, man. How are you? I was going to shit on you the other day. For what? What did I do?
Well What did I ever do to you, Bart? Nothing.
Okay. Only good things.
Okay. W you uh I think Lily Zao was in City Field for the game. Oh, yeah, she was at City Field. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And you were like, I just walked by there.
But you were like, I just walked by. From the US Open.
Well, the US Open was going on during the day. She was there at night. I know, but I saw your little like sweater around your neck. I was at the US Open literally. It was hot.
I did not have a little, a little, I've never been able to pull that look off. I've wanted to. But have never been able to like. Make it feel like I could do it. I'm not cool enough.
I'm sorry. Oh, then we made fun of you Tuesday. Because it seemed like you got bullied into liking the Packers' jerseys in record time. I okay, so here's what I'll say. The original leak.
That my buddy Jason Hershorn posted was just Christian Watson and Jordan Love in the jersey in the stands. Yeah. And I did like. That looked bad. It looked gray and just kind of like dumb.
Then, with the whole ensemble, they finally got the yellow stripe on the white helmets. We got a little bit of a close-up on the jersey. I liked the detailing with the white pants, like the whole ensemble. Ended up being fine. The problem is.
And I said this on Loxon Packers.
So you can listen to the segment. I am philosophically opposed to the whole project. I don't think. The iconic franchises need a million alternate uniforms. We agree.
And so I just am like. There there's like the bar. Is so high With these, that I'm just, they're never going to be above like a five and a half or a six.
So, like, I ended, I'm fine with them as far as they go. And I think it helped that I saw some of the other ones, and some of the other ones are truly terrible. Like, the Lions are playing in a Panthers jersey. I don't understand that. The Bears are playing in a lion-eye jerseys or Syracuse jerseys.
Vikings are in a Ravens jersey. Right.
So, like, the Packers aren't that, although it is pretty balary-y, I have to say. Like, it does feel like a bailer all the time.
Well, G-Fed thought they were stealing from Bethune Cookman. I don't know if you saw that. He got a lot of shit for that. I mean, who says they're not? Nick Collins, Bethune, Cookman, Cookman, you know.
Hero.
So I don't Think that throwback jerseys, Peter Bukowski locked on Packers. I don't want it spin. Too much time on jerseys, but I don't think that. Um I don't think they need to do it every year. I'm not against the throwback.
I don't like Nike. Having as much influence over what teams are wearing seems like more than the teams do. And if you're gonna do it, Go back to 94 when it was the 75th year of football, and everyone had a throwback that they wore half the season. I thought that was neat. If you're going to do it, do it.
But don't you think that if they tried to bring those throwbacks out now, everyone would go, what is this nonsense? Because they were just like, it was just colorblock jerseys. Like, we would think that that was stupid now. Even though at the time I thought they were pretty cool. Yeah.
I just don't like when they wear all white at home. That's my real gripe. Yeah, why did they have to do that? And why did they call them the like? The white out jerseys, which implies a blizzard, and they wore them like the second week of October.
Yeah. Well, it is Wisconsin. Yeah, I mean, it could happen, but like. All right. There are four.
How about football at some point? Yeah, I have five. People. that I want to talk to you about.
Okay. Okay, so we'll start with Grandpa. Not a Packer yet. But everyone thinks that that could happen, and that's Josh Sweat. Oh, okay.
He's with the Cardinals. Cardinals are here. It is the LaFleur Bowl on Friday. Which Fucking Christ. Um What's going on with Josh Sweat?
I don't know anything other than people saying that the Packers and Cardinals had the lights on late last night. Yeah, um Okay. I think the thought for a long time was the Cardinals are just not going to do anything. But it was clear. That Josh Wett wanted out.
Now, he would not be the first superstar athlete, and he's not a superstar, but a star athlete. to want out and not get it. And ultimately, like they work it out. The thing is, is he's not, he's not asking for a contract. He's asking for them to get me the fuck out of here.
And that's a very different thing. And so that is a harder thing to solve because they're not going to give him a new contract. He just got a new contract. He wants to play for Jonathan Gannon. He wants to play for meaningful football in December, January, and he does not want to be in Arizona.
Imagine preferring to be in Green Bay. December, January over Arizona. That's the NFL. That's the beauty of it. And even people in Green Bay are like, I'd love to be in Arizona right now.
That's why half of Arizona is Midwest people. That's true. That's why there's the 18 Culvers down there. Exactly. And so.
I don't, I don't, I think there's any. Like even even the people that don't think this is going to happen. Um that I've talked to. They understand that Josh Swed is unhappy. But my understanding of it is, there is a certain level of interest from the Packers.
Now that's to a point, right? Because the cost is going to be a problem here. The Packers do not have a first-round pick. And they're not going to offer a first-round pick, but. If you're going to offer a day two pick.
Which the reporting was that that's kind of what they they wanted, Arizona. Then Now you've really strapped yourself from a cap or a draft resources perspective, right?
So That becomes problematic. If the price has come down, Justice Moscata the other day suggested that. What he had heard was that the price had come down. I had not necessarily heard that part of it, but that is what Justice Soft reported, reported. I don't know what you would want to call it, but that was what he was told.
That makes it easier then.
Now, it's interesting back when this originally happened, back in April. The reporting was Bill Huber. From Sports Illustrated. Reached out to some people in the NFL. And it seemed like the thought was early day three pick, maybe a late day two pick.
was the cost.
So, like, if a fourth-round pick Was the NFL their perceived value of his cost? Then the Cardinals were never going to get a two. And maybe that was the point, right? Maybe they never really thought they could get that. And they just go to Josh Sweat and say, hey, we looked around, we tried.
We couldn't get anything that made sense for us. Why don't you come play and we'll revisit this at the trade deadline? That may be where they ultimately land here. But it doesn't seem coincidental. That Josh Sweat who As I mentioned, had a really bad case of the my contract hurts.
Um early in training camp. Right before they play the Packers, he shows up and practices like two days before it gets activated. And then we get these reports. Oh, the prices come down. Oh, the Packers were in the office late.
Oh, the Cardinals were in the office early. That doesn't seem coincidental to me. Do you think it gets done? If he wants to be here so badly, let's do it.
Well, I think if you're the Packers, yeah, I mean, absolutely. The question then becomes: what is fair compensation? What do the Packers have anything that the Cardinals want? I asked Alex Clancy, our locked-on Cardinals host, about that, and he was just sort of like, no, I'd rather have Josh Slatt. If the LaFleur Brotherhood can do anything, let's lower the cost of this.
Can't LaFleur be like. I'll give you. You take something out of dad's Will or something? You can have the car he's given me. Yeah, I don't like what would, what would be, what would be the appealing thing if you're the Cardinals?
You'd have to, it'd have to be a young player with some upside. Um like Would they want someone like Lucas Van Ness? I don't know. You're getting a cheaper version of. Like if Lucas Van Nessi is good, and that's a big if, he'd get the Josh Sweat contract.
which Josh Sweat is already on. And if you acquire Josh Sweat, you're doing it without any future guaranteed money. I'd kind of like, if they would take Lucas Van Ness, I would do that swap straight up. And I probably would not think twice about it, honestly. Would you do that?
I would do that. I think I would do that. I think we're kind of still waiting on Van Ness to. I think Vanessa can be a really good player. But if you're the Packers, you'd rather have the bird in the hand.
And it's a little bit like the Peter Griffin. Like Lucas Vanessa could be anything, he could even be as good as Josh Sweat. But to date, he's not. Right? You'd much rather, if you're the Packers and you fancy yourself a contender, you'd rather have the good player than the theoretically good player.
The Packers today, good insight. The Packers today signed Jonu Smith. Yeah. Jonathan Smith is 31. Oh, God, he's so old.
Get him out of the league. His best year statistically was a couple of years ago in Miami, 88 catches. Eight touchdowns. He did have an eight touchdown year in Tennessee. He has been with five different teams: Patriots, Falcons, and Steelers, also Steelers last year.
I just feel like. Goody. Is having the same experience. that many fantasy football players have had the last eight years. Where they're like, oh shit, I need a tight end.
Johnny Smith is available. How can that be? And then you'll find out why. after a month.
Well, but if they're like, it can't hurt. I just. That's true. No, I think that I like, I like the metaphor there. But also in the case of the Packers, he gets to be tight end two, right?
So it's different than, hey, I need a tight end because my mind's on bye. You know, Brock Bowers is on bye. Let me just pick up Jones Smith for a week. This is Like you just get to use him when you want to use him. And it does have to be said like two years ago.
Two years ago is not that long ago. In 2024. He was awesome for the Miami Dolphins. He was like. And that whole offense was awesome, but he individually was also really, really good.
Mike McDaniel. Kyle Shanahan guy, one of Matt LaFleur's best friends. Um so there's some schematic overlap there. I think you're going to, like, if you thought some of the wild stuff that Matt LaFleur would do with Alan Lazard was annoying. And, like, those kinds of things.
Like, wait till you see what and Josiah DeGuara, wait till you see what they do with Johnny Smith. But the cool thing about Johnny Smith is he is the perfect compliment to Tucker Kraft. Because crafts can line up anywhere. And Johnny Smith can line up anywhere and more.
So he can line up anywhere on the positional tight end spectrum. You want him to line up in line and block? He can do that. You want to line up in the slot? He can do that.
H-back, wing back. Fullback, he can do any of those things. He had a touchdown run last year for Pittsburgh as the true halfback. That's right. They had a toss to him, and he scored.
He can split out wide. He can play anywhere. And so, what I said on socials was: he's kind of. Exactly, the player, not kind of, he's exactly the player they were hoping they were getting when they drafted Josiah DeGuara.
Someone who could play everywhere for them. And Josiah DeGuara, as you put your head in your hands, where is he? He just got, I think he just worked out from for someone, or just got cut from somewhere, or both. But he is a fringe NFL player. And man, that 2020 draft is a brutal one for the Packers.
It's Jordan Love. And some yikes, unfortunately, for them. But when you get the franchise quarterback right, it doesn't really matter.
So I think John New Smith is a. Terrific compliment. My only question, and I've been saying this for a couple of months on lockdown Packers bart: like Johnny Smith makes a lot of sense for. for a lot of different reasons. My question was the price.
If you look at the money. I thought a team would give him real money. you know he that he could make eight nine ten million dollars But that obviously did not materialize for him. And so, well, we don't. As we record this, we haven't, I haven't seen the money reported, have you?
Um, so like. I don't, my guess is he's not going to make that much. Probably more in that, like four to five, but could be seven to eight with incentives and those sorts of things. That makes sense to me. And so.
He is a terrific fit and he's better. He was better two years ago than Luke Musgrave has ever, ever been. Ever.
So, I just think that this is kind of a no-brainer for the Packers. Whether or not Luke Musgrave is healthy or not, I think it makes sense. And don't you think this is the end then for Luke Musgrave? Like, you only make this move. If he was supposed to be the guy and then Tucker Kraft took over and now he's And remember, he was the guy.
He looked good early in 2023. He looked like a nice player. And he'd be like, he'd be open down the seam, and Jordan Love would miss him and stuff like that.
So, like, Yeah, I don't, it's one of those weird things. He looked like he was ready to be. I'll never forget Tom Pelo Cerro saying that that's the, he, he was on NFL Network, and he goes, that's the biggest fast guy or the fastest big guy I've ever seen. Like, that's pretty high praise, and he just never materialized. Day one starter at tight end in the NFL.
That's that's pretty rare. Matt LaFleur, like, very excited about him, openly excited about him. That's that's pretty rare for rookies.
So, yeah, it's just he's had a kind of a weird career. Injuries have been a part of it. I hope he lands somewhere. And does well because tight ends, it usually takes a while, but it's a bummer, honestly. Classic Winkler verse audio.
Here is Horvot, Ryan Horvat and I, the night. Josiah DeGuara was drafted. We were live on the fan. I watched more guys. I have muted the website.
Tim, if you could edit that in post. I watched more guys. I'm not even, this isn't like a brag. I watch way too much college football. Like, my wife probably wants to leave me because of it.
And I honestly have no clue who the hell this guy is. How his name is Josiah DeGuara. He had bleached blonde hair in a senior year pick.
So that's what we judged that pick on, and we were right. That it would suck. All right, I got three more guys for you. And then a Pro Bowl one, and then I'll let you get on with your very busy life. But thanks for coming on.
You're very welcome. And I'm sorry, it is like crazy thunderstorming here today.
So if you get any thunder audio in there, you can keep it. That's good background. It's good if I like if I had time to take a nap, it would be great for that. I would love that. I walked by your old house today.
Again, did you? Yeah, it's a beautiful day in Shorewood. I love it. Um My mom was just at that city market the other day. She said she was, they don't go back there very much, but she was there for a while.
Peter, it's a block from my house. I know. It's a great. I used to walk home every day and get. One of three things.
A cinnamon roll or a croissant. And they were like: the best thing was the Toll House cookies were a dollar. Are they still a dollar? Peter, it's 2026. Nothing's a dollar.
Well, so what are they? What is it? Do you know how much they cost? $4.99? Oh, geez.
Yeah. Um That'd be dope if they were a dollar. Marshawn Lloyd. Yeah. I don't see it with him.
And I'm judging this off five carries. Right.
He's got five more carries in the NFL than you and I have. And you're like, I don't see it. I don't see it. I just I don't know. I I'm I'm not gonna Plant a flag here.
But everyone's been Marshawn Lloyd for two years, and he ran. It just smelled like he was running. You know, like A.J. Dillon would run like. Five yards, but only move one.
Yes, I do know what you mean. Marshawn Lloyd will move five yards and only get one. Yeah. And that's a little bit like one of the, he needs to get his feel back a little bit. This is a different style of offense in terms of the running game than he ran at USC.
And so that's part of this. He is a far inferior inside runner. Compared to what he can be as a guy in space.
So like you saw it. I know it was an outside linebacker for the Broncos, but like that little choice route. Which by the way has worked in Madden since Madden 97. Oh, that's my move. Yeah.
He left that guy standing still. Yeah. And that and like, remember the play last year he got hurt on a wheel route. From Malik Willis, where if he doesn't rip the hamstring off the bone on that play. He probably takes it for a 65-yard touchdown.
And, like, how many running backs in our lifetime, Bart Winkler, could have made that play? There's just not, it's a very, it's a pretty short list. It might be like peak prime Aaron Jones, and that's it. Brent Fulwood, Daryl Thompson, Reggie Cobb, Vice Province, Travis Jervey, Travis Jervey. Ryan Grant, Tony Fisher.
Tony Fisher, Najee Davenport. All right, we've now we've named dudes. Um Like they're party Smith. I didn't hear what you said. Barty Smith from the 70s.
Thank you. That's a good one. Raymond Harris. Um. He's an explosive guy in space.
And so that's what they have to lean into with him and index with him. What I'll be fascinated by is. How do they balance the carries on third down with him and Chris Brooks? Because Chris Brooks is obviously the best pass protector. CB30, baby.
But. Watching him run the ball in the same game where you watched Marshawn Lloyd and Pierre Strong Jr. run the ball is just sort of like. Does that guy play the same sport? Like, does he play this?
It was like. You know, watching the difference between like John Coon and Ryan Grant run the ball. Like, there just is a marked difference in explosiveness. And I do think you could use Chris Brooks sort of like a fullback. And remember in like 2011.
When John Kuhn would be the only guy in, like, Rodgers would be in the gun with four receivers, and then Kuhn in the backfield. Like, I think the Packers could do stuff like that with Chris Brooks. But you also like with Marshawn Lloyd, his ability in space on a check down, he could take a check down. A three-yard pass for 15-20 yards. He could take a screen pass and score it from 60.
So, like, He They'll have to find a balance for that. But I think the lion's share of the carries are going to go to Josh Jacobs, assuming he doesn't get suspended. And I would think we'd have to get a resolution to that pretty soon here. I am going to blow past that because I got no idea either. But I need to tell you about speculation.
I think he's getting suspended for a game. Yeah Has a story ever gotten swept under the rug quicker? And just like gone away faster? I mean, besides Shohei Otani gambling and throwing this guy under the bus. Allegedly, allegedly.
Well, I'm past that. I want to bring this up because you mentioned Kuhn.
So Uh oh. No, it's fine. I had to send, I sold something on eBay.
Okay. To a city in Pennsylvania called Mechanicsburg. And then I thought, well, that reminds me of Schippensburg.
So I'm thinking where Kuhn went.
So I'm thinking, was Mechanicsburg made by mechanics and Shippensburg made by like shippers? Mechanicsburg was made. As a village of mechanics, they called it Mechanics Berg. Yep, very creative. Shippensburg.
is named after someone whose last name is Shippin. And that guy's granddaughter eventually married. Benedict Arnold. No way! How about that?
That's crazy. I just looked it all up yesterday and I was like, when am I ever going to need this information? It turns out when you're a podcaster, all information is useful information. And is that a problem if he has?
Well He, if he plateaued last year and you get 17 games at that level, that's not a problem at all because he was very good last year. Is he ever going to be? Jamar Chase? No. Is he ever going to be George Pickens, who they could have drafted right in that same spot?
No. I don't think so. But I the Jeff Harrison I have used Jeff Janice. Jared Aberdeer. Jeff Janis.
Kittrick Taylor.
Now we have fully devolved into just Corin Robinson. Oh, oh, now you're speaking my language. Corin Robinson, he was one of my favorite Madden players of all time. That 2007 Packers team is probably my favorite to have played Madden on ever, of any Packers team. But Um What was the question you asked?
Just if Watson plateaued and it doesn't matter. He was, if you look at like yards per route run, the pro football focus numbers, the grades, he was very good at the end of last year. The comparison I made when he was coming out was he could be. Tall T. Y.
Hilton. And then that became the running bit of me calling him Tall Y Hilton. Which is not the best. It's not the best one I've come up with in my life. And T.Y.
Hilton had seasons where he caught 80, 90 passes, right? Where he had 140 targets. And he was never. A top three receiver and never a top six receiver, but he was kind of always a top eight, top ten, top twelve kind of receiver. And if that's what Christian Watson is for 17 games, even if he's like the 16th best receiver in the NFL, the 18th best receiver in the NFL, That's really good because Tucker Kraft might be the best tight end in the NFL.
So, if you have that, plus Christian Watson, plus Matthew Golden takes a little bit of a step forward and just kind of gives you. Romeo Dobbs adjacent play. That's really good for the offense. I'm totally fine with that being. The plateau of Christian Watson.
Okay. Now Plateau is not in my vocabulary for this last gentleman. As I give Peter a five-pack of Packers. Sponsored by You got a sponsor you want to plug? Mm.
Not really. No free answers. No free ads. Yeah, free ads. Value added, Pete.
No, thanks. All right. I want these nice ultra pouches. I do like these. These are a sponsor of the show.
I do I really like them. I really do. Oh, yeah, take one right now, then, bastard.
Okay. Last one. You can see, you can see. Oh, last one. Convenient.
What is it? Is it like a Zen? No, well, it's meant for people who want to get off Zen. There's zero nicotine, it's natural nootropics.
Now we're getting people off Zinn?
Well, 'cause nicotine's addictive. I suppose. I don't know, man. They're sponsor of Lockdown Packers. Locked on, I think the code is locked on NFL if you want to get some locked on or some ultras.
They taste really good, I will say. I believe you. How many quarterbacks one year? This year. You need the win.
You need to win the Super Bowl this year. And you get Let's not get weird about it. You get the best coach. You get the best defense.
Okay. How many quarterbacks are you taking over Jordan Love?
Okay, so I think the easy ones: Mahomes, Allen, Lamar. The problem with Burrow right now is the guy can't stay on the field. Mm-hmm. Um And I kind of think he's been skating a little bit on having gone to the Super Bowl in 2021. And then, like, he's got nice aura and dates Olivia Ponton.
And so, like, that's so cool that he does that.
So I probably like on legacy have to put burrow. I think Jordan Love is in the next tier of quarterbacks. for me that I would I would have there with Dak Herbert. Love. I think that's the tier.
Okay, I love Dak. I do love Dak. I love Dak more than the next guy. I think that's the group. And you know what?
When have we seen Justin Herbert have a positive playoff moment ever? Ever.
Like his team blew a more embarrassing game than the Packers Bears game. And that was partially Herbert's fault. Whereas Jordan Love had 300 yards and four touchdowns in that game, and his kicker missed seven points. And then he was an atrocity last year and the year before.
So, okay. Why does he belong? If I have to win the Super Bowl, why does he belong ahead of Jordan Love? That's just sort of where I am with it. I think if I were just ranking quarterbacks, I would have Justin Herbert ahead of Jordan Love.
But the question was win the Super Bowl. And there's no evidence for me. In the playoffs, honestly, there's not a ton of evidence for Dak either, which is why I think love is in that conversation. At least the other guys. Like Joe Burrow's been to a Super Bowl.
Josh Allen is just like kind of unquestionably the best quarterback in the NFL. Mahomes was on his way to be. you know, the greatest quarterback ever. And then Lamar, again, also in the playoffs, TBD on Lamar. Um, I reserve the right to change my mind on that one if he has another playoff stinker.
But I think that's the list.
So, I gave you four and then a tier of three.
So, top seven, top eight. And that's about where I have Jordan Love in the hierarchy of quarterbacks: like top seven, top eight. I would take Josh Allen and that's it. That's why me talking Packers is. It's a very hard time for me personally right now, Peter, because I hate LaFleur so much.
Right.
You hate that he's bad. future is tied to Matt LaFleur. But as much as I hate LaFleur and actually think he's bad. Inversely, I think love is that good. That's kind of the way Bengals fans feel about Zach Taylor and Joe Burrow.
Well, then we maybe we make a Super Bowl. I I can't believe we will. with Maflur, but That's where I rest. I'm going to wrap up with Pro Bowl. Do you want a part of that action or should I let you go live your life?
Um, I would love to answer. I think the Pro Bowl has been an abomination for a very long time. I think it is stupid. I think it is pointless. But I would like to go back to some of the, like, I liked when, remember, Brett Favre, like, trying to throw harder than everybody else, like, who could throw the ball the farthest?
I'd like to get back to some of those kind of skill competitions if the players were willing, but they don't seem to be willing.
So. But my argument has always been. The Pro Bowl.
Now, I'm not talking 1993 when, you know, growing up. But the Pro Bowl, even as of 2012. was bad. The Probo was a bad product. Yeah.
But People wanted something to replace it. And they replaced it with a worse version. of a bad product. I would kill to go back to the bad product now. But you made it so bad, and my issue.
Mainly with sports fans is every time we sit down and watch a game. We need to be so entertained. Every game needs to be the best game ever. That's why we deployed it. No, no, no, no.
Because we watched us. We watched Titans Jaguars on Thursday Night Football, and it was Blake Bortles and Marcus Mariota and gladly shit all over it because it was fun. And we changed Thursday Night Football to be the best games of the week. But what we are annoyed with, and I think rightfully so. Is in a game with a bunch of good players.
The product can't suck. And it's the same thing at the NBA All-Star game. In a game where you've got all good players, the products can't be shitty. Like, that's the issue. And I think that's what pisses people off.
I will say, the other part of this. that I love. And it's very good. Is now we cannot have 18th alternates for Pro Bowl spots. You make the Pro Bowl or you do not.
And that's it. Like, there aren't, like, imagine if the all-star game, there were a bunch of guys that could just be like, well, the 17 guys said they can't be in it.
So, like, Ursan Ilyasova is an all-star. Like, no, that's that's the Keyshawn Nixon Pro Bowl. Like, Keyshawn Nixon being a Pro Bowler and Jordan Love. Oh, he sucks. I want him off is a fucking joke.
He's so. Like, this is why I think this is good. Just make it a list. Bring everybody out there. They can get dressed up.
They don't have to come. You can be Al Pacino and decide you want to stay home. Like, it's okay. And then you don't have to get it to like the 18th quarterback. And all of a sudden, Shadur Sanders is a Pro Bowler.
And he's got more Pro Bowls than Jordan Love. Like, that's the stupid thing. And so, this fixes that, which I'm all for. This is how I became an all-star goalie. For the Masonic All-Star game, my senior year of high school.
Is because Nobody wanted to go to the game.
So I was like the 12th alternate called. And they had gotten. They had the goalies that wanted to go. And then a bunch of goalies couldn't. And I was not.
Good at all. But then they got down for so many goalies that they're like. We just need a body. And then someone's like, oh, isn't Greg Winkler's kit of goalie, he'll do it.
So that's how I got made an all-star game. I gave up two goals. Did you win or lose? We lost. It was my fault.
Bummer, dude. Peter Bukowski, locked on Packers. Thank you for your time. Good to see you, Bart. Yeah, I'm going to sign off for the show post-game.
Are you doing a post-game tomorrow? Do you do them for the oh man? Am I doing a post-game? We got locked on Packers live on YouTube after, and then an hour of Locked on Packers squad show: Brandon Snyde, Jason Hershorn, Jacob Wessendorf, and me on the post-game show. Having a blast.
I thought I was going to be doing that all summer. You gave me two visits. You you didn't follow up? He said, You want to come on more? I go, Yes.
And then that was it. I agreed. What what do you want me to tell you? He didn't follow up. Other people followed up.
The squeaky wheel gets the we gets the grease part. You asked me to come on and I said yes. What was I supposed to do? I already did. And then you came on.
And then you came on. You said, Will you do this more? I said, yes. And then that was it. Yeah.
I'll admit part of it was my fault. I could have been like, hey. Let's get you set up with HR. Let's do the whole thing. And we just, we didn't.
All right, well. But then you didn't follow up. If you didn't follow up, I'm following up now.
Okay, it was too late. Peter and all, thanks for stopping into the Winklerverse. Love you, bud. Good to see you. At Edward Jones, we believe rich isn't about having life all figured out.
