Today on Summit life with Jeannie Greer. Two characters got miracles in the story are pretty unequal gyrus was a religious leader. She religiously outcast divide. He is probably one of the ones that are outcast. These red seas, for he has servants.

She is a servant Jesus gives healing to both of them in response to faith. He makes no distinction their stature, their accomplishments, even the righteousness if you ring them strangers on the street where they think they'll go when they die. Odds are that think they are going to happen and why most people will probably answer because they're good person or because they've done something good with their life. But the truth is our salvation has nothing to do with anything that we've done today. Pastor JD Greer describes what it really takes to go from spiritual death to eternal life. He titled this message from Mark chapter 5 not dead to take a look at the next several weeks at some of the most challenging, divisive things that Jesus ever set these statements or to do two things for us. One find some of the most confusing things Jesus said actually answers on the deepest questions that you what I've ever asked about life second to show you exactly where you stand with Jesus. The first one will you look at is a statement that Jesus made a little girl's death.

This statement is going to be in Mark five verse 39 and so Jesus walks into the place where her little body is is lying on the on the bed and he said why are you making the commotion and weeping this child is not dead. She is sleeping. Maybe that statement and sing like that big a deal to you, but just imagine if you're a parent. If that were your little girl.

Furthermore, what you to find out in the story is that her parents kinda blame Jesus for Deb.

Is he Jesus had been on his way to heal her. When he got delayed and because he delayed she died me Jesus. If you really cared. If you really care why would you let this happen.

Why when you've gone immediately. This really is one of the most bizarre encounters. In Jesus life Go back to the beginning of the story of Lysistrata walk through it.

Verse 22 is where it begins. One of the rulers of the synagogue, which means he's a pretty important guy. His religious ruler gyrus by name came and fell at Jesus feet and implored him earnestly saying my little daughter is the point of death, and what your hands on her so that she may be made well and live on these rich so he's hired. I'm sure the best doctors that money can buy, but they've now told him there's nothing left that they can do and so in desperation, he thinks Jesus maybe maybe Jesus he's heard about this miracle working healer. Finally, he finds him and he falls on his face and probably says something like like like I know, I know that I haven't been the biggest supporter of yours. I know that that I haven't really believed, but you can do something please my little girl.

She's dying. Please, verse 24 Jesus what women next verse, but as they were going a great crowd thronged about him now. Gyrus is fighting through that crowd try to push people out of the way because he's got a get Jesus to his little girl, and that crowd was a woman who had a discharge of blood for 12 years.

Discharge of blood means that she had a disease that gave her menstrual irregularity.

She also had heard the reports about Jesus and so she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his garment because she had thought if I could just touch his garments will be made well. They looked around to see who would done it.

The woman knowing what had happened to her came in fear and trembling, and fell down before him and told him the whole truth, and he said to her daughter daughter by the way, that's the only time he ever uses that term in all the New Testament. It's a word that means precious child. She's the only one who ever gets called this precious daughter, your faith is made you well. Go in peace, and be healed of your disease, which is an awesome story, but gyrus is like Jesus. My daughter is struggling with every breath, every second counts. What Jesus was still speaking with this woman. There came from the rulers how someone who said your daughter just died. Now, could you imagine as a parent what's been like to be gyrus of this moment I would you feel you know you know Jesus you knew she was hanging on, and you stop some, but it was not urgent and while you delayed.

She died. Would you be confused I would be, would you be angry I would be overhearing what they said. Jesus said the gyrus. Do not fear, but only believe became the gyrus's house, Jesus all commotion people weeping and wailing loudly and then that statement because instead of the child is not Deb sleeping and they laughed at him, but he put them outside and took the child's father and mother and those were with him, and when and where the child was taken by the hand he said to her, Talitha, whom I Talitha is an Aramaic word that means little girl who Myers is a very gentle word that means get on up, get on up and immediately the girl got up and began walking five crucially important things about life and death. Jesus teaches us and that story number one.

Jesus, that this is easy to fix is waking somebody up out of a short nap.

What scares you most.

What scares us most is it not our death or the death of someone that we love you.

See what a beautiful picture of death. This is she the tender details you want to know what it's like for a believer to die just like this little girl Jesus sits by her bedside. He takes your hand when you awake, the first voice that you hear is his first face that you see is his.

That's what Jesus is showing us here about the death of a believer number two. Here's the second thing that the story teaches us is that Jesus is the way, is not inconsistent with his life. Jesus delay is not consistent with his love gyrus could not fathom why Jesus delayed.

If you love me if you cared surely you have gotten there in time to help my little girl Jesus no that the delay listen to this. He knew the delay would make any real difference because the him death was as easy to fix is waking somebody up out of a short nap would hard for him to raise the dead, that was for him to heal the sick, and so this little girl's death was of no lasting significance. Just a temporary delay.

Paul would say this way. Second review supper for our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us and eternal glory. Watch this that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen but on what is unseen since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Our afflictions are troubles. Paul says matter how bad they seem.

Listen only light and momentary.

So what does it feel light and momentary little girl is dead this and I'm not trying to minimize your pain there. Some of you right now at this moment are walking through chapters of your life that I probably can't even fathom. There should work not try to minimize your pain and try to maximize Jesus's victory over death and set a date Jesus had a plan for gyrus plan for you.

Number three. Jesus both offers more and requires more than you've ever imagined both offers more and requires more than you ever imagined both people. In this story came to Jesus, for one thing, but ended up with something far greater. Jesus required a lot more them and they were expecting.

For example, gyrus came to Jesus in need of a healing. What he got was a resurrection that's that's that's a miracle upgrade is not Jesus required gyrus, not just to believe that he had power to heal. He required gyrus to trust him in the midst of completely bewildering circumstances, the woman with the issue of blood. She wanted to hit number Jesus did and get her healing get out get home.

That's what you wanted, she got only got her healing she was called precious daughter. The only person in all the New Testament he called that she got called precious daughter by the son of God, but the cost was that she had to expose yourself to Jesus and publicly profess and before the crowd coming listen, coming to Jesus always offers more and also always cost more than you've ever realized. Here's always said if anybody would come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross and follow me see when you take up your cross. That means you lose any semblance of control you believe you have in your life is when your fashionable cross you're not call the shots anymore and she said that's what it's like to follow me is total trust, total surrender, total denial see I make this point because I thought I'm talking everything we can let this a lot of people who say they believe in Jesus and assuming that's why most of you here. I believe if I said are you a follower of Jesus, you would say yes, I'm a follower of Jesus, but it seems like for many people there follower of Jesus, more like. I would think of myself as a follower of Justin Bieber on Twitter, I yes even with all felonies. I'm still a believer. Okay, here's the thing I follow him. He gives advice you think the jail sentences would like tone and elevator know he still tell me how to run my life like he knows the best so I am looking at what he says he gives advice and berries think. I don't pay it if you don't have the time. He made many influences that here they are, but I take it or leave it because I'm not a really a follower of Justin Bieber of fan back that up. I'm not a fan of Justin Bieber either. I is a curious spectacle to me that is is why I'm not a fan of this is make it really clear right minis who are you going to have a follower of Jesus which are actually a fan of Jesus because some things about and you find intriguing, sentimental, but you're not a follower of him because you have not forsaken all that he's forbidden you never really pick up your cross and begin to follow him and you're still in control is only one tray that Jesus will ever make. That is all of him for all of you the offers you far more than you ever imagined far more he wants not only to help you with your problem. I forgive your sins. He wants to give you an eternity that you could not even begin to fathom your trading make for that is complete and total surrender completed total denial. All of him for all of you that is the only trade he will ever make. There is no third way. There is no negotiation. He's either Lord of all we say or not Lord at all. You actually come to him. Number four number four. Personal stature contributes nothing to overcoming death issue two characters got miracles in the story are pretty unequal gyrus was a religious leader.

See religiously outcast. In fact, he is probably one of the ones that are outcast. He's rich, she's poor. He has servant. She is a servant.

He's got a name everybody knows gyrus earnings not even recorded because nobody knows nobody cares that Jesus gives healing to both of them in response to faith. He makes no distinction there stature their accomplishments. Even the righteousness mean nothing to you. I was a little interpretive clue in this story that unites them together woman has this issue of blood, I told you that in their day in Jewish law that meant she was a picture of uncleanness. She was unfit for the presence of God they believed gyrus looks like her office and he is a religious man of stature. He's got it all together.

He wears the beautiful garments there is your guy. That is the best of the best yet. Isaiah 64 six says that all of our righteousness is to God like a filthy rag, which means our best works on our best days are two godlike filthy rag scholar say that that means one of two things either means a bandage that you would use to wrap a leper so it's now fill with with costs in blood and disease court means menstrual rag and what you're showing you is that this religious leader watch is the same as this woman because both of them have the same disease in their heart and that is the disease of sin answer Jesus, salvation is not a reward for righteous living.

Because there is none that are righteous in his sight. We are all staying to the core by sin is not by works of righteousness that we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us a washy of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit enemies that Jesus can and will save all who call upon him, because the point is never how righteous you are before he saves you the point is the power he exerts when he saves you one of the words that matter how bad a sinner you are. It matters how great of a Savior. He is born is not a wickedness of your sin is the power of his grace, you might be like that woman here. You'll feel like you have a name you know you don't want people to know you don't people know what you've done during the crowd your broken you feel dirty. I tell you this. Reach out your hand in faith and he will save you, he will cleanse you from the real uncleanness and he will call you my precious daughter, on the other hand to think of God to accept you because you're pretty good person you want to scale people on pretty good, not private, but that other people and not bad grades on the curve on want to be fine. You have no part in his forgiveness, no part in his resurrection at all.

Michael Bloomberg, former mayor of New York City, said in an interview point to his work on gun safety, obesity and smoking cessation. He said this in the New York Times quote I'm telling you, if there is a God when I get to heaven. I'm not even a stop to be interviewed I'm head straight. He and I earn my place in heaven. It's not even close.

Now I know some you conservatives like yes ticket to the lives you are Bill O'Reilly say almost exactly the same thing the other night.

Okay, so what you find is that everybody, everybody has the streak in them where to say why do you think dodging what you would heaven you'll start to give me a list of things that you've done that set you above other people on the good person while I'm a good dad. Well, I'm a good worker. Well good to the poor will I come to church whatever it is that you think that you do as long as you have righteousness in your heart a sense of righteousness. You will never receive the gift righteousness of Christ because Christ only feels empty hands.

You have to come with empty hands. Nothing in my hands I bring, simply to thy cross I cling is when I know that I am not fit for the kingdom of God that I am then open to his resurrection and his righteousness which he gives as a gift. You see, the good news is that all you need is me, all you need is made in Christ righteousness is sufficient for you, what will get in your way is not the death of your say uncle getting your way is a false illusion of your own righteousness all the righteousness all his righteousness didn't help. In the first bit was leaving the number five our victory over death came only at great personal cost to him. Verse 30 says that when a woman touched him power went out from them, which is an odd phrase scholar say what it means is in a moment he became weak and here's why that's odd.

It's the only time it's used in the New Testament and Jesus you know this had been far more impressive miracles and that IEEE not O'Hara came out despite his finger were doing break a sweat tested legion of demons out of somebody without even raising his voice. So why is it that this miracle would make him weak. Why did it take power from him because our cleansing. Listen like this woman's and our resurrection like this little girls would only come to us at great personal cost to him see in order to give us the power of forgiveness and the power of new life. That power would have to come out of him and he would have to be made week in order to cleanse our sin, he would have to become dirty for us. Exodus 38 says that if the priest was wearing righteous garment, a religious garment and someone who was unclean touched him. His garment would become unclean. This woman touched Jesus, she became cleansed, but Jesus took upon himself. Her uncleanness God made him who knew no sin to become sin for her so that she can be made the righteousness of God in him. In order for Jesus to raise that little girl. The new life you have to be struck down in weakness and death for an order for God to forgive your sin in order for God to give you new life had become sin for you, had become death for you and dying your place. That's what the gospel is substitution Jesus in my place. God made him who knew no sin had never tasted death, he made him to become sin, uncleanness book on death and dying your place so that you by faith in him could receive the power of new life. Jesus in your place. I told you us in our struggle to believe in my life and that's sincere that the not pastoring when I tell you that. But this I do believe that Jesus came from heaven to do what I could not do, and that you live the life I've always known I should live always wanted to live and die the death that I've been condemned to die my place and then he overcame the one thing that scared me the worst and that was the grave he walked into it. He walked out of it and he said it is finished because he did it for me that's the gospel and Jesus is the only Savior that can do that people say why do you think Jesus is the only Savior because he's the only one that ever overcame sin and death.

That's my problem is trying to save me me to be able to overcome the things that I need to be safe from the Yucatn leaving the story about the grandmother who you goes and sees her earlier two-year-old fall to the deep end of the pole. She goes out there to try to rescue her two-year-old to 1/2 hours later they pull out of the deeper the pool the body of the two-year-old and the grandmother why she cannot swim either the one who wants to be the Savior can have the same problems. One of these be saved so I can go to save you want to Mohammed say me because their centers and they died. That's why Jesus Christ went into the tomb as a perfect man, bearing my sin, and he conquered it because he was the only one who could do what I could not do, that's what it means to be saved and you never trusted Christ personally as you run your receive him as your Savior. It's a gift.

He said God so loved the world that he gave his only son, that whoever would believe in him is to receive and give them everlasting life become the children of God, you better believe it you receive it as your own. If you ever done that and if not Mike, I implore you might. I implore you, in light of what you know is your coming death which might be 50 years from now it might be tonight to think very seriously about what Jesus is offering you you think about what it means to walk away. Jesus would ask you this way very logical question you're religious or not logic easy to follow what you profit a person what you profit a person if they gained all world and the loss. There's nothing about them with you to gain the whole world and lost her soul light and momentary joy for an eternity of sorrow if you try to make us make sense of teenagers or alternator. So Mr. this grandmother taught in high school soon as I once ignited $10 billion on stage if it fit on stage was to say was of your and I was an offer to you $10 billion cash, but you won't appear on stage only bought a knife to cut off your PQ right in the state in front everybody was asking him if you take that think that 99.9% of ever writing audience raises their hand. There's always a one girl that will do it you notice you might think is awesome.

You know that now. It also right but now when I get Pamela think is right was go from your PQ essay: lift your wrist $10 billion, and if you do that, usually about 70% of the audience to raise their hand.

So that's okay. When I just your wrist was goalie up to your left shoulder at this point, so about 40% of the audience raise their hand and are always all guys right. Like, whatever, $10 million by my throwing arm. You know so so now say left arm, right arm, both legs put out your eyes, put up your nose plug.

Cannot you talk present. There's no but so is one guy out there. The raises hand and on my theory is lazy gentleman that your class clown is your fool because nobody in their right mind would treat $10 billion trade African $10 billion will get a $10 billion. If you have no faculties with which to enjoy Jesus's question is why are some of you giving up far far more far far less you're consumed with the pursuits of dreams and Jesus becomes irrelevant. So you put them on the back burner like I get that when I'm old. What's your profit you if you gain all world MM lost your what you give in exchange for your offering their sin.
