Coming up on this edition of Judica County Radio, Josh Whitaker and Joe Hamer, managing partners, Whitaker and Hamer law firm and practicing attorneys here in North Carolina, going to dive into ICE, U.S. immigration and customs enforcement. They're in Charlotte, and there is talk that they're going to be in Durham and Raleigh.

So that will be a topic of discussion today. Plus, THCA, that's coming up next on Judica County. Whitaker and Hamer present Judica County. With Joshua Whitaker and Joseph Hamer. Welcome into Judica County Radio.

Your hosts are Josh Whitaker and Joe Hamer, managing partners at Whitaker and Hamer Law Firm. They're practicing attorneys here in our great state of North Carolina, and they placed offices across the state for your convenience: Raleigh, Garner, Cleveland, Clayton, Goldsboro, Fuque Verina, Gastonia, and down on the shore at Moorhead City. I'm Morgan Patrick. Always a pleasure to talk legalese with the attorneys, and we're going to get into a couple of topics today to start off with. But want to remind you too: if you've got a question you'd like the attorneys to answer, you can always send it to us: questions at judicacountyradio.com.

That's questions at Judicacountyradio.com. And as always, we will have complimentary consults in and around estate planning available today. As you listen to the show, and if you're thinking to yourself, you know what? I haven't really started estate planning. This would be a good opportunity to get the ball rolling.

You can call us at any time, 919-77270000. You can also visit wh.lawyer. Josh.

Well, it's good to see ya. It's good to it's good to be here. It's good to be alive. That's right. Good to be heard.

The uh. I'm super pumped, man. I'm excited. I know we talked about this a little bit last week. I'm excited.

The basketball season's here, man. All levels: middle school, high school, college. You big middle school basketball guy. Yeah, man. Where can I bet on those games?

It's going to have to be me and you that start it.

Okay. going going this afternoon going to watch some middle school Uh Going to watch some middle school basketball today. It's one of your kids, right? And you're not just going to a reference middle school. My children are involved.

I didn't know if you would. If you painted yourself in the school's colors and just went to Randy Middle Schools because you're that much. I'm gonna go to a lot of different area middle schools and just take in some middle school basketball. And I have my kids. kids on a on a middle school team and um I mean, I've been watching NC State basketballs down at Lenovo.

uh for the for the the most recent win and it's uh Nothing like basketball, man. I enjoy football. But when basketball comes, it's it's nice.

So give us a breakdown on what you think about the Wolfpack. Obviously, I think you said this week, so I'm assuming that was the VCU game.

So what do you think? They're going to be good, man. They didn't cover the spread. I know that much. They didn't?

What was the spread on that game? I think it was 10.5. Oh, yeah. It was a close game. What's up with Virginia Commonwealth played good defense?

You didn't cheer hard enough for him? Is that what it was? We were a little late. I got another kid wrestling, so we were a little late as practice ran long.

So we missed the first. four or five minutes of the game, so maybe that's what it was. You were doing better early, actually.

So, when you got there, that's when it all fell apart. We got there, I think it was 13-13 when we got there, but um. I just think it's bizarre, guys, because I remember just 10, 15 years ago, it was taboo to talk about spreads. The NCAA didn't want to do it.

Now it's everywhere. Oh, it's very legal. It's on the scoreboard because everybody's betting on everything. But yeah, VCU, 11.5. And the under was 164.5, and the final was 85.79, so did not cover.

Yeah, thanks, Josh. I did. Look, man, I stopped betting on NC State a long time ago because that's a good way to lose money. Yeah, but especially if you're a fan. I did too, but then you were so enthusiastic, you really made me believe.

You talk about it all the time. I am predicting an undefeated season that ends with the NCAA tournament banner. All right, right. Maybe. Yeah, start off with high hopes, yes.

But maybe. But no, it's good stuff. I was reading, there was a New York Times article on Will Wade and NC State, and Will Wade had this. I guess when we approached him about coaching, He said, uh His quote there is like, I told NC State that They're my best chance. And I'm their best chance.

That's a mutually beneficial relationship. That's what you want. That's exactly what you want.

Sounds like a confident guy. Um But you're right, you're right, Morgan. We are, me and Joe, we are partners. We run the law firm of Whitaker and Hamer. We do this radio show.

We do this podcast. We come to you to answer. Usually, we're going to answer a lot of listener questions. We're going to talk about things that we've seen in our office, try to give people who are listening maybe some legal. Knowledge, some legal know-how.

As part of our mission here on the radio show, we do offer. All you have to do is call in and contact us when Morgan gives you that information. But we do this to get people to contact us. We want to talk to you about estate planning. That's kind of what we're doing.

We're a law firm that handles many other things. We can talk to you about. You know, personal injury, car accidents, things like that. We have our business lawyers and our real estate lawyers, so we are a general. Uh firm in the in the in the idea that we can represent you on a lot of different things.

We have We have people who are knowledgeable about a lot of different things. Here on the radio show, though, most of our questions end up being. From listeners estate planning in nature, and so that's why we always offer If you contact us. Um free. Estate planning consults.

And so, of course, we're doing that again today, just like we do every week. Um And you know, we can do that a lot of different ways. You can come by one of our offices. We can talk to you via Zoom or via the phone to get that started. You can go to Josh Whitaker's personal residence.

Are we doing that still? Yeah, come come by the house. We'll sit on the deck, look at the woods. You can watch his kid play basketball in the backyard. That's right.

It's a middle school drop for an old school. Level basketball at all times at the house. Yeah. Yeah. Um.

But that's today we're gonna talk about some topical stuff though. Today. Um you know ICE has been in the news All week here in North Carolina and Charlotte and in Raleigh and potentially in Durham. And so I wanted to talk about that just a little bit, not making it political. Uh, really, just talking about ICE and federal agencies and what they can do and they can't do.

See a lot of stuff floating around on social media. uh that that that is that is false uh one way or the other. And so we're going to talk about ice a little bit because it's topical. Um I was talking to a good buddy not too long ago and learned more about what THCA was. the hemp stores and what's being sold and In Riley, North Carolina, there were some changes to that law in October.

I don't know if you run into this much, Joe. Uh, no, man, I don't have any buddies on my buddies. Yeah, no. You don't you don't run into any of this Delta Eight, this T H C, this fake marijuana type stuff. Um, not a lot, man.

Not a lot, you know. Uh. But I'm interested to hear your take. I know you've done exhaustive research, as you always do, for our segments, and I cannot wait. to dive in.

Well, it's you know, I think there's some confusion in the laws, and we're not going to have an exhaustive. Primer on it, but just some general discussion. And then, as always, we're going to delve into some estate planning topics, some questions that I've seen folks have in the office and You know, that's what we're going to do today, Morgan. For better or worse, that's what we're doing today. All right, and just uh to give you some background on ICE, at least for the state of North Carolina, the federal immigration agents uh descended upon Charlotte uh earlier in the week.

Uh they're calling it and this is from Newsweek uh sweeping operation. They called it Operation Charlotte's Web. And they arrested one hundred and thirty illegal aliens that have broken immigration laws. And of course, the the the bigger story is uh that web is going to spread. Apparently, they're going to be coming to Durham at some point.

Raleigh, possibly. But again, it's a frontline story. We'll talk about that today on the program. Plus, that THCA, and we will also get to some estate planning questions, some pretty common questions that are out there, and you can learn from that. And obviously, you can grab one of our complimentary again consultations on estate planning.

And how do you do that? You call our number 919-77270000. That's 919-77270000. You can also visit the website, wh.lawyer. That's wh.lawyer.

You're locked into Judica County Radio. Josh Whitaker and Joe Hamer are your hosts, the managing partners at Whitaker and Hamer Law Firm and practicing attorneys here in North Carolina. Offices located in Raleigh, Garner, Cleveland, Clayton, Goldsboro, Fuqua Verina, Castonia, and in Moorhead City. I'm Morgan Patrick. We're back after a short break, and we'll talk about, of course, ice in the state of North Carolina.

And we're not talking weather. We are back on Judica County Radio, your hosts, Josh Whitaker and Joe Hamer, managing partners, Whitaker and Hamer Law Firm. They're located right here in North Carolina, and that's where they practice law in our great state. Offices located: Raleigh, Garner, Cleveland, Clayton, Goldsboro, Pew Guayavarina, Gastonia, and down on the coast at Moorhead City. I'm Morgan Patrick.

Pleasure to jump on with the attorneys. We're going to get to this ICE U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement that's in Charlotte. And according to several reports, Durham and Raleigh are going to be on the list of cities where ICE could be showing up. Opportunity to get on the calendar with our good friends at Whitaker and Hamer for estate planning consults.

These are complimentary. You can call 919-7727000. That's 919-7727000. Also, visit wh.lawyer for more information there. We'll get to some frequently asked questions about estate planning coming up on the program.

But, Josh, we're going to start with ICE. If you've been watching the news here in North Carolina this week, or the past couple of weeks anyway. Uh lot a lot going on with with ice. Um and I guess border patrol and and uh And it's real it turns into a real political Topic, right? It's a real loaded topic, depending on how you discuss it.

And we're not here to. We're not here to say what's right and wrong, but I thought it would be interesting because I see a lot of stuff flying around on. on social media About what a federal agency can and can't do, what ICE can and can't do, and You know, Joseph, I thought it might be interesting. to to kinda discuss that because I don't think it's anything Is that anything crazy? You know, it's normal stuff from an attorney's perspective.

Yeah, from an attorney's perspective, it's normal. It's nothing new, really. Nothing new or novel. I just think there's. There's definitely an enhanced enforcement effort, and then when you as the media tends to do, it's amplified, right?

And so it's a much much more Hot button issue. And you see a lot of stuff out there.

So we like to boil things down, right? Boil them down to the core. and and take the emotion out of the equation and just look at it From our cold, lifeless legal perspective, zero emotion or feeling. That's what we give you on this show. Just nothing.

Just we're all dead inside. That's right. No, no emotion.

Soul soulless uh No, but ICE, you know, ICE is a federal agency, and you know, as the political winds blow one way or the other. You know, they're part of the executive branch. The executive branch is, of course, the branch that enforces. Uh the laws that are on the books. And just like here locally.

You know, um Sometimes agencies enforce laws more stricter than other times, and something, you know, and that's kind of what got me thinking about ICE. And the hemp marijuana laws and things like that. You know, there's laws on the books. Um the legislative branch The federal government, state government make these laws. The executive branch, a lot of times, Enforces it unevenly, or stricter than maybe the legislature intended, or less strict, and uh Then lawyers get involved, right?

That's how we get involved because we have to determine what What intent was, and what have you. But for general purposes, you know. What ICE is doing is legal, right? There's nothing illegal about it. There's, you know.

People have their personal feelings on You know, immigration and what's legal and what's illegal, and how we should treat. Folks here in our country. But the one thing I was gonna, the one thing I wanted to say, like out of the get-go. Is Every person has constitutional Due process in the United States, right?

So if you're a citizen, if you're here legally, if you're here illegally, if you're in, you're visiting, right? If you're in the U.S., Constitutional due process rights extend to everyone. Doesn't matter if you're. a citizen and and Joseph When I say due process rights, But what does that mean exactly, you think?

Well, I think you touched on something important, right? Because. You touch on the fact that ICE, which is immigration and customs enforcement, they have authority, and their authority is derived from a few different sources. But but but they have authority. Generally speaking, to to to do the things that they do.

Now on a case by case basis, It You talked about due process, and due process essentially, at its simplest form, means that the government has to follow. Fair procedures before they can act against someone, right? Like everyone has certain fundamental rights, and you touched on it. That's regardless of your legal, you know, whether you're here illegally, whether you've been here your whole life. Everyone has certain.

inalienable rights, right? And and so when we say that that generally speaking ICE has legal authority to do these things that that they're doing. That is not. That doesn't Alleviate their responsibility to afford the individuals that they're dealing with. their due process rights.

Like nothing nothing takes that away. any violation of those due process rights, right, on a case by case basis, that could Could be. illegal and it and it could be a problem. Um but but I think that's where That's The more interesting The part, the piece that deserves more analysis, I think, is case by case. Are these folks being afforded the due process rights that they're required to have.

Yeah, and and and ICE, you know, it's you know, you hear I've heard a lot of sound bites from like the governor and the attorney general and mayors and and what have you and and They can't. you know, states don't have they don't they don't for lack of a better word, right? States don't trump federal agencies, right? Federal agencies are above the sitting mayor of Riley, and they're above the governor of North Carolina. And they're going to do.

What they're tasked to do, and they have to do it legally. And you'll see, and there's been a ton of challenges, you know, people who are. Arrested by ICE have kinda, you know, there's tons of stuff going through the court system now. And I'm sure we'll get some guidance, you know, because that's. You know, that's the thing ice, um I think the due process issue is the biggest issue.

Like, ICE certainly has the right to be here. They certainly have the right to arrest and detain people who have violated. US laws, US immigration policy, that's That's just the way it is, right? And if you don't like that, That's too bad, right? Because that's just what ICE does.

And they're. And they've got the authority to do it. But but at the same time, it's like you said. Fifth Amendment. If you look at the plain language of the Fifth Amendment, which is where due process comes from, one of the places, it says, No person shall be deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process, right?

So. It doesn't say citizen. It specifically refers to persons. And that's a broad definition. And like you said, man, that's anybody.

Anybody has that same. Right. Uh to not be deprived of these things without that due process piece. Yeah. So I use the, you know, I was kind of thinking about it the other day, and, you know, I was thinking about, you know, we've had.

We've talked about on this show, like when you get pulled over, what the police can and what law enforcement can and can't do if you're pulled over. what they can search, what they can't search, you know, if they come to your house. You know, we've talked about how the police are allowed to lie to you. And if they're performing an investigation, they can lie to you about evidence. They can lie to you about a lot of different things.

They can tell you that you're coming to win a sweepstakes and you show up and they're serving a warrant on you. That's a thing. That's right. That's right. So.

So we've talked about that. And a lot of that translates to ice, right? If ice shows up at your front door. You don't have to let them in, right? Unless they have a warrant.

Most The way I understand it, maybe I'm wrong because this is just what people have told me. But ICE doesn't usually have warrants, right? That's not how they operate. If they show up. They're trying to talk their way into your house or whatever.

But if they do have a warrant, they can come in. If they don't have a warrant, they can't come in. It's just like the police, you know, and that's. Yeah, that's the biggest thing. They're not allowed to just You know, detain you without reason, right?

They have to have. You know, it's just like police. Yeah, I think that's the bottom line, right? Is that. Even if you're an undocumented immigrant and you're here illegally, you've got rights.

And it's not just an unfettered. These folks have carte blanche to do whatever they want to do without any restriction. That the constitutional restrictions. Apply and they are still in place and they are still afforded to everybody.

Now, Whether that's being violated on a case-by-case basis, you know, again, we, we. We don't know every single situation, uh but These individuals have those same due process rights. Regardless, and they can raise those rights, and those rights are available to them to. to offer them some protection. And so Regardless of whether, you know, like we've said, what ICE is doing, generally speaking, it's legal.

It's perfectly legal, they have authority. Oh. If they infringe upon those rights, then that could, like we said, be a problem on a case-by-case basis.

So Yeah, you know, just so much time is spent, especially when the, you know, I try to get the weather. I don't know why I haven't just started asking like Alexa for the weather or just looking on my phone, but I'll still flip on the local news to. To get weather or what have you. You can go outside too. Yeah, that never works.

Another plan that you can employ. Open your eyes right to the source. Yeah. I always automatically assume the weather will be just like it was the day before, right? Like, if I don't get any information to the contrary, if it was 70 degrees yesterday and sunny, I just assume it'll be 70 degrees and sunny again.

Yeah, I don't know that that's a foolproof plan, but if it's working for you. But um But anyway, yeah, that's that's that's ice generally, you know, and and You know, I know some folks don't like that they're here, and some people think they're maybe being more aggressive than they need to be, but. You know, that's just what they they can do. Just 'cause they haven't done it before doesn't mean they they can't do it, you know. Um It's kind of like in the next segment, we're going to talk about, I call it fake weed, right?

But like Delta 8 and THCA. Folks have been selling that in North Carolina. The laws have kind of changed.

Some places enforce them more strictly than others. You don't get to pick and choose. How those things get enforced if you're just. people like me and Joseph and and Morgan. Um, that's what we're going to talk about next, Morgan.

All right, fake weed coming up, Judica County Radio, Josh Whitaker and Joe Hamer, managing partners, Whitaker Hamer Law Firm, located right here in North Carolina, where they practice law. They placed offices for your convenience. In Raleigh, Garner, Cleveland, Clayton, Goldsboro, Fuque Verina, Gastonia, and in Moorhead City. Complimentary consult on estate planning. And we are going to get to some often-asked questions about estate planning coming up on the program.

But to grab one of those consults, come in again, no cost, no obligation to become a client. See if you want to get started on your estate plan. Good way to start that conversation. Grab one of the consults, 919-772-7000. That's 919-772-7000.

You can also visit the website, which is a great resource for you: wh.lawyer. That's wh.lawyer. We've got more. Judica County coming up on the other side. We are back on Judica County Radio, your host, Josh Whitaker, Joe Hamer, Managing Partners, Whitaker and Hamer Law Firm, located right here in North Carolina, where they practice law.

You can find offices across our great state, down on the coast, Moorhead City, over near Charlotte in Gastonia, Fuque Verina, Goldsboro, Clayton, Cleveland, Garner, and of course the Cap City. Raleigh, North Carolina. I'm Morgan Patrick. A pleasure to jump on with the attorneys. We've already talked about today ICE, U.S.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement. They are in Charlotte, Charlotte's web, and there are stories coming out that it's going to be also in Durham and in Raleigh. And apparently, we just hit bingo somewhere. The Jackson. Are you doing a bingo game over there?

I guess something.

Well, Candy Crush. I mean, we're crushing it here on the radio. The opportunity to get on the calendar with Whitaker and Hamer with a complimentary consult on estate planning. It's ongoing during the course of the show. All you got to do is call 919-77270000.

That's 919-77270000. You can also visit the website wh.lawyer.

So we go from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, ICE. Two. Fake weed, T-H-C-A, Josh. Yeah, so my, you know, when I was thinking about ice and kind of how.

Immigration laws were enforced four years ago versus how they're enforced now. versus how they'll be in Enforced in the future. These aren't new laws, right? These laws have been on the books. for years and then knew leaders of the executive branch, presidents, governors, whoever come in and they en they enforce those laws or interpret those laws.

differently. Right. How attorneys came in into the picture, right? Because legislative branch. Makes laws, executive branch has to interpret and enforce those laws, and then when those things get a little out of control, that's when attorneys step in and file lawsuits and.

And what have you, and so everybody. Seems to be fascinated with how ICE is enforcing immigration laws that have been on the books for a long time. And then that made me think about North Carolina. You know, back in 2018, North Carolina passed a law that legalized hemp. Hemp being You know, hemp that has under a certain level of THC.

So, hemp for farming and industrial. And manufacturing uses, which was a, you know, it can be a good cash money crop. It's a good, that's a good thing that now farmers. can can grow hemp if they can find the market for it. Uh but would it what it ushered in.

Was a bunch of again, I call them it's not a legal term, fake weed, right? It is now, man. You said it on the radio, so it's a fake weed. Yeah, so now it's legitimate. Yeah, it's going in.

So it is going on the books.

So all these THC products kind of flooded the market. and if they were derived from hemp and not enhanced and under a certain level of potency, Uh then in in theory you know it's it's kind of a gray area i'm sure it's not with the hemp bill what the legislature intended. But a lot of places that's how they're interpreting it. But there's not a lot of clear guidance. from the legislature.

They keep there were some changes in October. They keep kind of patching the bill. to kind of get rid of some unattended consequences. Yeah, I was surprised. I ran into a buddy I hadn't seen in a long time a couple of weeks ago.

And I guess they had opened up one of these hemp shops, had opened up near his house, and he had gone in and he showed me what he bought. And to the untrained eye, It's just like dime bags, right? It's just Packs of weed is what it appears to be, but it's THCA. which is under that level of potency. When you buy it.

And Joseph, I don't know if you I've just assumed you would knew that you knew this. What made you assume that? I don't know, man. You just seem like a guy who's in touch with the streets. Yeah, I spent a lot of time in the streets.

You know, we've got our beautiful historic. magnificent Clayton office. We're we're directly next door to a uh to a smoke shop, essentially, right? And and they they Have a lot of these THCA products, and I can tell you. as a place that's directly next door, you walk out back And yeah, for all intents and purposes, man.

It Smells just like The real thing. Very much so. And uh Indistinguishable in that sense. I'm not a scientist. No.

I'm not. Clearly. I'm not a scientist. You could pass for a scientist. I was like gifted with the scientific mind.

Uh. But Yeah, it looked like weed. It smelled like weed. And my buddy. Who's who's who is the scientist of of of A weed scientist specifically?

Just general. Just general scientists. Just lab coat. I don't know what he does. He just always has a lab coat on.

Okay. Yeah. I like that. But when you light it, when you burn it, the potency, the chemical reaction, increases the potency.

So you end up just it's just like you're smoking Weed. And so I think that's what the legislature is trying to crack down on. And depending on where you live, in a lot of rural areas. Uh the sheriff's office likes to take raid these places, right? And and and test the Test what they're selling to make sure it is in line with what the statute requires.

And then if you're in a more urban setting like a Raleigh or Charlotte. A lot of law enforcement just turns, they're not concerned with this, right? It's not, they're not going to spend resources trying to police this, and it just is, it's just okay. Um again Enforcement depends on where you live, of the elected officials locally. Um And so I just I just thought that was uh I thought that was an interesting uh You know.

Complement to what we were talking about with ice.

So, this is out there. If you really want to go buy some fake weed, man, you got a lot of places to go buy fake weed. It's a gas station, right? You can just walk right into some gas stations and just. Grab it.

Yeah. And you hope Right, so if you're a consumer of this thing, of this product, You hope that it meets. You have no idea, right? You hope that it meets the uh The legislative requirements to be legal to sell. Because if it doesn't, if you get pulled over and the cop's like, what's that?

And you're like, oh, it's THCA, I bought it over here, and they test it. And it You're rolling the dice. Yeah, you're definitely rolling the dice because you're just a drink. Yeah, it's more potent than it's supposed to be. And you've just got weed, right?

And you're going to get some criminal charges. And you can't tell them, you can't. It's not a defense that the gas station that you went to. Told you that this was, you know, that is a strict liability type issue where. You cannot say that the 7-Eleven told me that this was T-H-C-A.

If the gas yeah, the cop's if the gas station guy told you that it must be okay, right? The guy's like, oh. He's like, he's wearing a lab coat, though. Yeah, if he's wearing a lab coat, you can show him a picture. Always take a picture of your gas station attendant if they've got a lab coat on.

That's kind of like gas station sushi, right? I mean, you know. Oh, yeah. Yeah. I don't know, man.

If you go into my head, I've got to eat gas station sushi or I've got to do the gas station fake weed, I think. That's a no-brainer. Go hot dog man. Hot dog? Third option.

Okay. It's hard to mess up a hot dog. It's hard. You can mess it up. You can be on the roller for a couple of days.

Yeah, that's true. That is very true. They make those, I don't know if you've ever seen them, they make these kitchen top. Rollers for hot dogs, and then underneath it steams your buns. Yeah.

All right, so you can just have hot dogs and steamed buns ready to go in your house. Anytime. With your boys, I think that might work. I only eat lab-tested. Gas station hot dogs.

I like to make sure that they've undergone rigorous testing. And that they are under the threshold of whatever goes in hot dogs. When someone talks about lab coats, that always makes me think of like Nintendo 64 Bond, if you're actually playing the story. Like there's all these lab guys or a lot of lab guys. Yep.

Yeah. I do remember that. Easy to shoot those lab guys in Bond 64. Yeah. Been there, been there, done that.

Dot lawyer. Josh.

You go uh you know, I was thinking about lab coats. We're talking about lab coats and the last scientist.

Okay. Um I haven't been to the doctor in a little bit. Does your doctor wear a lap coat? Your doctor wear like the white mock. Yeah, the the white little thing.

Yeah, we're just. Is it scrubs or lap coats? Scrubs or nurses. I go to a cosplay doctor that dresses up like uh anime characters. You give great service.

You get a good discount there.

Sounds like a pediatrician. Yeah, they usually have a coat. I don't know if they use it. It's a schmock. I think that's called a schmock.

It's called a schmock. Yeah. Yeah. A smock usually has. I don't want to get technical here.

You got to get technical. But a smock usually has the head hole. and you put it on like a shirt, but then it has open sides. That's a sh that's a s Schmock, right? I don't own any, so I can't say for certain, but Morgan said it with a lot of confidence.

And usually when he does that, I just believe whatever he says.

So. Well I was wondering when we do we do our attorney consults. We're obviously not doctors. We should start wearing maybe throw some lab coats in there. We should mandate that for sure.

So I threw it into the World Wide Web. The official name of doctor's coat is typically referred to as a lab coat. It is also known as a white coat or a physician's coat in various physicist coats. That's what most of it is. Nobody calls it hat.

Nobody calls it. Nobody in the history of the world has called it a physician's coat. If my doctor comes in, I like the sound of my lab coat on. I tell him to walk out of the room, get the physician's coat. I say it just like that, and then come back, and we can do business together.

We can transact business. Yeah, exactly. And glasses. I don't care if you can see. Put glasses on.

It makes me feel better. We should just have a day where me and you have consults all day, and we just do a test on what's more. Our outfit, what is more comforting to folks that we're going to sit down with? I like that idea. I also like the idea of doing a consult.

You start, and then you say you got to go get something, then I come back in and we don't say anything. We don't even address the fact. And we just keep doing that over and over. We do it like the interviewing stepbrothers when they both went on the interviews and they just sit behind you. I sit behind you.

Yeah. I don't know which one of us would be in front, man. We're both pretty large fellas. I don't think we match up very well. The um I think I want my attorney in a Cosby sweater.

I think that's the most comforting if I have to go talk to anybody. Like a late 1980s Cosby sweater. But not Bill Cosby's actual sweater, just a style of sweater. And that would be the only aspect of Bill Cosby's personality that we're bringing into the console for the right. It's more art than it is sweater.

Is that what you're saying? Yeah, exactly. It's a style, it's a fashion. Yeah. But that's comfort you know, a big guy in a sweater.

Cosby sweater. It's hard to beat a big guy in a sweater. It really is, man. I don't know. A fat guy in a little coat would beat that.

Yeah. That'd be nice. That'd be nice. Elderly grandma, very comforting. We can't really pull that off.

We've got a lot of those on the firm roster. But if there's any out there looking for jobs, you know. We'll accept you. Anyway, I don't have any lab coats. I wonder, I guess they have to make a big guy a lab coat.

They got to have double XLs and triple XLs out there. Yeah, they've got them. They're out there, man. We could do some research. We could get you one.

Do some quick internet research. I don't think you're quite a double XL lab coat, man. I think an XL lab coat would be good for you. I don't want to risk it. I need a little extra room.

Yeah, you want it to be tight. You want them to be tight. Yeah, I don't want it to be snug. You want them to be able to see your muscle tone underneath your hair. Yeah, that's exactly what I want.

It's very important. All of your clients. They care about that. We've talked about some general stuff today, just kind of stuff that's in the news. Hot topics.

But now we gotta get down to the nitty-gritty, as they say. And that's estate planning. Trust, wills. Probate. It's like I'm SEOing our website.

I'm just saying key terms. I like that. Keep going. Keep you got more. Power of attorney.

That should be a if we so if we ever do get into wrestling and we form our lawyer when I take it when we do get into wrestling when we do it yeah that's a good special move power of attorney power of attorney yeah just want to just want to state for the record clock is ticking guys if you're going to do that just saying the uh the same we are going to age out the same yeah no man I think we're getting better I think we're getting more physically fit and more able every day that goes by it's counterintuitive but maybe you tour rest homes you know maybe they set up a ring for you I like that I actually really like that idea I take challenges from the audience.

Some of those early big wrestling fans are getting on up there, man.

So that's a billion-dollar idea, Morgan. We just have to do it. How many things at rest homes? I'm gonna wait to debut. In the wrestling ring, I'm going to wait until both of my knees are bone on bone, no cartilage left, and that's when I'll make my we're going to just roll you out there.

I'll have a fake neck brace on, I'll be in a wheelchair, but then you're getting beat up, and then I'll get up. I'm magically okay, you know. I like that, man. Yeah, it's good. It's a good angle.

But no, the reason we come to you every week is we do want to talk to you about estate planning. Again, the firm handles traffic tickets, the firm handles Car accident, negligence, personal injuries, just like the guys on TV who come to you on the TV commercials. We handle that area of law. A lot of business law, a lot of real estate law. Um, all different areas, so you can call us.

If you have any legal issue at all, We want to be the law firm that you call. But on the radio, we spend a lot of time talking about estate planning. And, Joe, our. We're We really we've spent a lot of time trying to make the process as easy As as possible, and I know you've spent a lot of time doing that, but You could almost call it my life's pursuit, man. You know, estate planning gives people pause, right?

It's a thing that's easy to procrastinate on. It's it's easy to sit back and Push it. to next week and then the next week. It's a morbid thought. Nobody wants to think about what happens when we pass.

But news flash, Josh. You're going to die. Everyone listening to this program is going to die. It's the unfortunate reality of life. It happens.

And someone's gonna have to to deal with the the fallout of that. Make it as easy as humanly possible. And that was what we tried to do. We wanted to, it's already a topic that can give you pause.

So we wanted to make it as streamlined, as efficient as possible. As easy, it may be the easiest thing you ever do. doing your estate plan with us. That's how easy we've made it. every single option in the world in terms of how we collect your data.

We do it in a in a smooth and easy and efficient way. We're going to give you all kinds of information in the simplest form to get your mind working on the things that you need to think about. And we're going to give you very flexible console options. And the the console for listeners of the show Very good price. What's that price again, Josh?

I think it's a zero, zero American dollars. What a bargain. The um You know, we did a couple of commercials that just were Google-ads.

So we did a couple of commercials a while ago. With soft, serene backgrounds, very natural. Yeah. relaxing, pleasing to the eye, kind of like um Water, you know, some flowing water, some trees, you know, some natural scenes. And then our tagline was.

You're going to die. Remember that? Yep. I remember that, man. They didn't test well.

People didn't like being told they were going to die. It didn't really bring in the clients like we. It's a real thing, man. You can't. What are you going to?

As of right now, we don't have the scientific tools to stop it, man. Maybe one day. Maybe we'll have to come back and revise this show one day. We'll all be living forever. But as of right now, man...

It's coming. It's coming for you. I saw Elon was talking about his robot was going to do surgery. One day we'll all have robots that can perform surgery and check us daily. And I tell you this right now, you better put it in a lab coat.

That's right. You better put it in a lab coat or else. It needs a I'm trying to think of a good name for a robot doctor that just lives in your house and checks you out. Needs a good name like... Uh I'm not getting anything.

Nope, nope. I'm gonna work on that. I'm gonna work on that for next week. Let's put us on a brief pause, 15 minutes of elevator music, and we'll come back and end the show with it. We'll come back with at least one or two good names for a robot doctor.

I was unprepared. Yeah, I got stuck in my head on Dr. Bots, and I couldn't come up with anything else. I like that. That's good, man.

I couldn't come up with anything else. I like that. But the point is, man, you're gonna die. Everyone's going to. Make it easy on the folks you leave behind.

But make sure that you're taking care of the people that you're leaving behind. If you got young kids, you want to make sure they're cared for. You want to have all these things in order.

So it's one less thing that your people have to worry about because they're going to be sad. And you're doing it for yourself too, because if you get in a situation where you medically cannot. handle your day to day and and you know, we joke a lot We joke around a lot, but I have dealt with just this week, you know, a handful of people. who are getting to that point in their life where they they know Their time to handle their affairs is limited. You know, they have some medical ailments.

Uh, just age in general, but but you know, I've dealt with some people who know the time's coming soon where. Their loved ones, or the people they're appointing as their fiduciaries, are going to have to step in and kind of take care of them. And so, your estate plan, you're planning for when you're not here. You know, like Joe said, but you're also planning for who's going to take care of you and make decisions. Uh when you can't.

And and and the the folks that I've talked to this week have the Luck, right, of seeing it ahead of time. And sometimes you don't, you know, a car accident or, you know, something sudden onset, a heart attack. You know, there's all kinds of things that can happen suddenly, but these people have time to plan. And that certainly is a luxury. But, um, going through that thought process with them.

um this week has has has you know been on been on my mind and and something that i i'd convey to to everyone out there is You know, we're all busy, especially if you have young kids playing the sports in the school, you know, you're working. Um but uh never a better time than now to to get it done. It's all about estate planning. Josh.

You remember You remember the original Nintendo? We all remember the original Nintendo. Oh, yeah, man. I remember that. I remember I remember being jealous.

Now, we were in a video game family back in the day. It was it was more I guess Atari was the first one that really came on and then then Nintendo. Yeah. I have two working Nintendos I'm very proud of. What do you need two for, man?

Just in case one goes next. Just in case you got a backup, Nintendo? Backup. Yeah. All right.

Are you playing them on a Cathroad Ray TV? Break glass in case of an emergency. They haven't been getting a lot of action lately. You know, I went through this phase, and my oldest son helped me. We put together all these old video game systems one summer.

Some of my old ones needed parts and we replaced some of them and just had a great summer. And now they I got them displayed. Right. So if you walk in you see my it's like art. It is art, man.

And they're all operational. Right next to your your Cosby sweater. That's right. The uh What was the but I'm sitting here thinking, I was thinking about robot names because of our last segment. We were trying to name a robot doctor.

And we have the best thing we got right now is Doctor Bots with a Z. What was the name of the robot that came with the Nintendo? If you got the Nintendo early and it came with the robot. I didn't Google it. I'm going to Google it.

'Cause it it only played like two or three games. Because I remember going over to a buddy's house and he had it. Right. He was Rob, the robotic operating buddy. Yeah, that's what it was.

That seems kind of anticlimactic. It seems like a bad name. Yeah, I mean, Rob is a good. I mean, you've got some friends named Rob, man. Don't hate on their names like that.

Think it should be named Josh? I have a lot of friends named Rob. I have to give them nicknames what they do. That and Dave. I know a lot of Dave's.

Yeah, yep. If you're not a robber of Dave, you can't be friends with Josh Whitaker. That's the way this goes. Owners. I wonder if somebody's got like a lot of friends named Josh and in their phone I'm like attorney Josh or lawyer Josh 'cause that's what I do to people, you know, plumber Dave and electrician.

It's a very it's a it's a good strategical way to account for those things, man, and I'm proud of you. Thank you. The daily, the legal knowledge you you give to us, man, is great, but it's the day-to-day knowledge that you give us that I feel like really improves my life more than anything. Mm-hmm. I want to retire.

Retire. When I retire from the law, you know, we can't do this forever. You know, at some point. Retire today, man. What's that happening?

I don't. Yeah, I'm not going to retort today. But I wanna I wanna retire one day and all I wanna do is I wanna sit at the fairgrounds and repair old video game systems. Like people bring me their old Nintendo and I bring it back to life. Yeah, man.

I think that could I I don't know that I don't know that you're going to make a ton of money. I'm going to have to charge like $1,000 for it.

Well, no, you've got to be careful. You don't want to be pushed into a higher tax bracket. You know, you've got to plan for these things. That's true, man. That's a very relevant thought.

You want to do it for the social engagement, the feeling of purpose. Helping them. I think that just repair their video game content. His purpose comes from repairing video game systems. If he's not doing that, he's just depressed.

Is that nothing I go for? I'll be the middle sword basketball. I'm going to do it in a lab coat, though. I'm going to put on the lab coat, maybe some goggles so people know I'm legitimate. Yeah, roll up in like a custom RV that's got a wrap on it, your Dr.

Robot or whatever. Dr. Bott, Dr. Bott, Dr. Vid, Dr.

Joshua Botts, Nintendo Repair Man.

Somebody brings me a Nintendo 64, I'm like, get that away from me. I only repair Nintendos. I'm talking about old school. Get that Sega Genesis out of here. You don't have the technology to mess with the Sega Genesis.

Maybe one day. I like Dr. Tendo. Dr. Tindo would work.

By the time you retire, man, they may have the new technology where you could be part robot. You could have some robot parts. Your two best knees could just be robot legs. I've told many people: I'm holding out. I'm not going to get any kind of knee replacements.

I'm waiting until I can get full-on robot legs. I like that. That's what I'm holding out for. I look forward to that. Then you're going to get into the adult basketball league.

Then there'll be a special basketball league. I've got a place on my team for you right now if you can come with robot legs. As you are right now, you're not welcome. Take up space and box out, Josh. Yeah.

The. These robot-legged guys would have to play in a special league, you know? Yeah. The robot. Couldn't play with.

And then we'll bet we'll bet on that for sure. Oh, we bet hardcore on that. Robot Basketball League, are you kidding me?

Well anyway. None of that was useful probably. We probably just wasted a couple of minutes of your life there. Um I got a lot of value out of it personally, man. Just the image of you in the robot coat.

Robot legs at the fairgrounds. At the fairgrounds, we're pairing only Nintendos. No one's coming next to the antique glass and the picture frames. I had a thought. We were talking about, you know, doing consults and and meeting with people and we were talking about what what how we could present ourselves that would make people more comfortable in a in a attorney client consult.

We we threw out lab coats, right? We threw out Cosby sweaters. What about uh monocle? What do you think monocle does? More trustworthy or less trustworthy if you're dealing with a guy that has a monocle?

Oh man, I think you got to look at, I think you got to have more context. We got to see him, you know, because that could be evil. Evil villain, I'm going to murder you. Or it could be. Are you dressed like the planter's peanut?

What's going on here? Oh, yeah, if you're a peanut for sure. 100%. Yeah, I trust you. Let's say you're in a Cosby sweater, but you got a handlebar mustache and a monocle.

So I feel like handlebar mustache by itself may be problematic. But if you add the monocle. I'm feeling better about it. I don't know. I'm thinking male librarian.

I mean, you know, the monocle and the nice sweater. Who do you even know that has a monocle? Like, what would you, what? Have you ever dealt with anybody that whips out a monocle and puts it on and looks at something? 30 years.

I don't know a lot of jewelers personally.

So, I c I can't say that I do. Maybe we should bring it back. It could work for you. No, it worked for you. You could be the attorney who uses a monocle.

And people would know who that was. I went to that attorney. You remember his name? No, but he had a monocle. He had a monocle.

Yeah. And he legally changed his name to Theodore Roosevelt. All right.
