Just dial 877-207-2276. And you can also email me. That's also easy. Just sent an email to info at carm.org at carm.org, the Christian Apologetics Research Ministry. I suspect there's probably a lot of people out there who have not been to my site yet.
When I say my site, the reason I say that is because I started it almost 31 years ago. We've had over 150 million visitors to the site. And I've been working on it a lot. We've had a lot of help. We have a lot of people behind the scenes, like Charlie and Laura and Dave.
Who helps out and Pete who help out and do things that keep this site running? And also, we have good donors. And just want to say thanks to all of you who have supported, which we still need that support. And just letting you know if you want to support us, you can. Just go to carm.org.
At the top of the page, you'll find the word donate. We really need that. Please help. But, you know, what we're here for is for the promotion of the gospel of Jesus Christ. The gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and who God is, the sovereign trinity, and that we're justified by faith alone in Christ alone.
Now, In light of all of that, I was in a debate last night. And I don't know if any of you heard it, watched it, saw it. I'd be interested in your comments if you'd call up and tell me what you thought. how it went.
So I was on for five hours with the debates and after-show. Four hours of going into it with this guy. and uh metaphysics mic and um Let's just say it's not very often that I meet people who are as rude and interruptive and even condescending as him. And at one point, I got so agitated by his constant interruptions that I just had it with him. He needs a man up, started acting like a mature man.
Let me finish my statements. Don't interrupt all the time. It was really bad. And uh this guy's a Unitarian. And I did my opening statement, and he wasn't able to refute it.
I said he wasn't able to. He said he was. He didn't refute it. There's no way. Because he did not go through the scriptures, he did not go through what I said, he did not deal with the issues of the logic, how the Trinity is arranged, and things like that.
But Two interesting things kind of arose out of it. And this is something I would tell my my late wife, I would say to her. In debates, discussions. I'd be in a discussion with somebody for two hours, whatever, online. And I would often come out with one.
Gold nugget. I came out with two last night, gold nuggets. And I'm going to share them with you, things that I didn't think about until I was in the argument, going forth in it, and then realized a certain something, some other stuff I've been learning and paying attention to. And then put it together. And I want to go through a little bit of that on the deity of Christ, on defending he was God.
Because in the doctrine of the Trinity, Jesus is God in flesh, that's part of the necessary doctrine.
So we're actually discussing the person and work of Christ.
So get there.
So It says in Colossians 2:9, and he was not able to do well with this. Seriously, he was not, along with John 14:28. And it says in Colossians 2:9, for in him dwells all the fullness of deity. in bodily form.
So, what he was saying is there's nothing in the Bible that says the hypostatic union. I said, Of course, the words hypostatic union are not there, but the concept is taught.
Nowhere is it taught? Yes, it is taught. Colossians 2:9. For in him dwells all the fullness of deity in bodily form, God in human flesh. That's two natures.
And So, what I'm going to do is present to you a more polished version than I gave last night because I worked on it today a little bit. I'm like, yeah, that's a good point that I came up with and stuff. And I'm going to go through it. a little bit uh that I'm gonna make it a formal uh Argument and presentation. I'm going to put it as an article on Carm on Colossians 2:9.
So, one of the things that, let me explain some stuff here. I think it might be interesting to the listeners if you're interested in this kind of stuff. Is that something that exists has, by definition, necessary properties to it?
Now This is not going to be hard to understand, it's just basic, but here's an illustration of something. a circle necessarily has roundness. It's an essential part of what a circle is. You can't have a circle without roundness. That's all just illustrating.
You can't have a square without corners.
So the essential properties are necessary and are part of what something is. And if you take away the essential properties, you don't have that thing anymore.
So that's why we would say essential properties are identical to the nature.
Now God has essential properties. I'm just laying the groundwork here. God has essential properties. He's all-knowing, all-loving, right? Or He's everywhere.
He has all power. He's holy. He has always existed. These are essential properties of God. There are no what we call accidental properties.
So You know, I'm six feet tall. And my friend, Dave, is about, I don't know how tall he's 5'8, 5'9.
Well, he has a different height than I do. I have another friend. Uh out in Florida he's like six, seven.
So we have di same indivi we have individuals who have accidental properties. Height can vary, uh but we're still human beings. And so these are the kind of things we talk about, you know, that what's essential is human-ness, but variables can change. Those are accidental properties.
Okay, oh, this is not a big deal. And um So if God has properties then all of his properties are essential. There's no accidental properties with God. That means that he is omniscient, is love, is holy, is everywhere. It's just part of what he is.
And you can't take away any one of those until I have the Christian God. All right, having laid all that there, okay, now.
So here's this issue. It says in Colossians 2.9, For in Him, Jesus dwells all the fullness of deity. in bodily form.
Deity. And that word means the God quality, the God nature, the God essence.
So, a nature is a set of essential properties that make something what it is. A nature. Like God's nature is the the divine being. He has the essential properties that make him what he is. They don't comprise him, he's not made of parts, not getting all that, but that's just how we word it.
So Essential properties cannot be possessed partially. You can't have part of omniscience. You're either omniscient or you're not omniscient. You're everywhere or you're not everywhere. There can be no degrees of these things.
because God doesn't have degrees of His properties.
Okay.
So whoever has a divine nature has all of God's essential properties. Also. Right? Makes sense. Anything is God, it must also have those same essential properties.
Now Colossians 2.9 says the fullness of deity dwells in Jesus. All right, all the faults of deity includes the essential properties. Therefore, Jesus has the essential properties.
Now there are verses Where Jesus is said to know all things, John 21, 17, I believe it is, where he says he'll be with us always, even to the end of the earth, into the age. Matthew 28, 18, or 20, actually 28, 20, where John 14, 28, he says he will indwell us. And other places, he knows the thought heart the thoughts of men, people. In 1 Kings 8:20, 39, I think it is, it says, Only God knows the hearts and the thoughts of people.
So, Jesus is exhibiting those same essential properties. Therefore, he is By logical necessity, he's God in flesh. This is really simple. And I love this kind of thinking, this kind of work. And if I remember, if I remember correctly, hopefully I do, my opponent last night, when I raised this to him, said there were degrees of divinity.
Which I just kind of chuckled at because you can't have degrees of divinity. God's either what he is or he's not what he is, and he is what he is. You can't have degrees of God's nature. And he went into, my opponent went into the stuff, well, look at the participation of the divine nature. And there's qualities in divine nature.
And I kept saying, we're not talking about that. We're talking about the nature of God and what Christ is, not about us participating in whatever it means in 2 Peter about participating in the divine nature. What does that mean? We could discuss that. It's a whole other topic.
We're not talking about that. We're talking about the issue of who Christ is. Yeah. And uh He didn't do well with that. And I realized I'd never put this argument together that way before with Colossians 2.9 with essential properties.
And it was something, one of those gems that came out last night. And so I'll be writing up on it and writing it in different ways. And then I'll get a caller here, and then after the school, I get hiccups. After the break, I'll get into another issue on John 14, 28, which we talked about in there. Let's get to Nelson from California.
Nelson, welcome. You're on the air. Hey Matt, great discussion that you had last night. I dismissed it. But hopefully the um uh you guys can put it on the on the comments there.
I can watch it today, y'all. Um so My question, it kind of um it's like a lengthy question and also I want to see if I got what I got so far,'cause I'm in a class. I'm going to Valley Church in Vacaville, and we're taking a year course long for the school year. And um and the first topic is about the the Trinity. And so, as I'm digging into the Word of God, Genesis chapter 1 just blows my mind after just really reading it.
Um. Mm. Correct me if I'm Uh quoting this right. Um In the beginning, Elohim, correct? Yes.
And uh and I see in the Word of God, that God speaks God. Said God speaks. Book, God made, God, and so on and so forth. And there's like over, I think, 31 or 32 times the name of God is mentioned. Wait a minute, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
Just a slight interrupt.
Okay.
You said the name of God is mentioned. That would be Yahweh. But it doesn't occur there. It's it's Elohim, which is just the word God.
Okay.
All right. Yeah, that's what I meant. I'm sorry.
Okay.
God is mentioned at least 31 or 32 times, if I'm correct, in that chapter. And then it blew my mind when it says. God said. Then it it goes back to um went to where the Holy Spirit told uh Philip go and speak to the Ethiopian guy, right? And um so There we go.
It just blows my mind.
So I guess my question is this. In chapter two, verse four, it says, The Lord God. That's the first time I see it says the Lord God The first occurrence, yes. Yes. Um Is that referring to Jesus?
Yeah. So this is what it says. This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created in the day that the Lord God made earth and heaven. Yahweh Elohim. Yahweh is simply the name of God.
So Yahweh is Elohim. 1 Kings 8.60, Jehovah is, or Yahweh is Elohim. And so in Exodus 3, when Moses says, well, what's your name? He's talking to God. He says, my name is I am that I am.
And we get the tetragrammaton, Yohe-Vahe, out of it.
Okay? Which is Yahweh.
Okay, okay. And that would also tie in with the Shama, right? Um Yeah, our God is one. Yes, okay. And so we go to Deuteronomy 6:4.
Uh Yes. And here is the Lord, Yahweh, our Elohim, Yahweh is one. Yes. Mm-hmm. Yes.
Yes. And so by just by going through this, and God is just kind of giving me. what he's giving me and how to present this, it's just like, wow. I mean, like you say, it's right there in Scripture. It's right there in Scripture.
That's a good observation, brother. Hey, we got a break. You want to hold or you want to go? Because we've got a break. Oh, okay.
Okay.
Hey folks, we have three open lines. If you want to give me a call, 877-207. 2276, we're right back. It's Matt Slick Live, taking your calls at 877-207-2276. Here's Matt Slick.
All right, everyone, welcome back to the show. That's going on with Nelson from California. Oh, wait, hold on. I got to do something before we get on here, Nelson. I forgot to do something.
I'm going to do it now. Yeah, I want to say hi to DG. He's a local guy. Hey, DG, man, waving to you. And also, Joanne and Matt, happy anniversary.
If you're listening, you'll know who it is. All right. Go ahead, Nelson. Amen, amen.
So, yeah, so you know, I just get so excited when I read the scriptures, and that's why I was talking so fast because I just love the word of God. And I guess I Um what is it uh so this also I think it's in John 14, verse 16, when Jesus says, I will pray to the Father that he will send another comforter to be with you, and then he will be you know, he's the Spirit of truth, and that he will teach you all things that I taught you. Then it dawned on me when he said, Are you talking about the Spirit of God? But then it says, But I will be with you. And that also's like wow.
What I received basically was this: is that as a person who's been born again, they instant salvation. The Spirit of God dwells in them, lives in them, and then Jesus is right there. Jesus is not saying he's a spirit. Jesus saying, I will be with you. Right.
So when you go to John 14, 16, and 17, this is really important too, because this is one of the verses that are brought up in 14, 23, which is right after this. Jesus is indwelling and he's withing. But anyway, with this issue here of the Holy Spirit, The Holy Spirit indwells us, as does the Father and the Son. That's right. The spirit of truth in the world cannot receive.
That's right. You're good, man. You're getting it. Good stuff. And so, um yeah, and then I guess um Um Okay.
And one last question. This is um Same topic but almost off topic. I've been speaking to a friend of mine who is an atheist. And um He just thinks that uh basically Jesus to Santa Claus. It's just whatever.
And so um And when they do that, I say, Well, Santa Claus rides rides around in the air on flying reindeer. Obviously, we know that's a made up story for children. Are you saying that Christ, who's written about historically, is also a made-up person, even though the evidence s shows that he was a real person? Yeah. Yeah, I mean, I I try to speak to him and say'cause he believes in uh evolution and he says that there's more uh truth uh evidence that theory is more This is what you do.
I don't know. No, it's more substantiated by science, but it's not.
So, one of the things you can do quickly is you can ask a question of the evolutionists. Have you ever read any books on the opposite side of evolution that attack it and show the weaknesses of it? Have you ever read any of those books? And their answer is no.
So you've only read one side. Known one side, and that's why you say it's true. You've not heard the counter-evidence, and there's a lot of it out there. There's an increasing list of scientists who are rejecting the neo-Darwinian theory of evolution. There are, seriously.
So I asked him, So you've not read the other side? No. And so, this is how you want to tell me how informed you are? You've not studied both sides? I said, I have.
Yeah, okay. Wow.
Okay, I never thought about that.
Okay.
All right. Yeah,'cause I mean, it just, yeah, something that I'm, I guess. facing right now. But again, thank you again for everything you do. And Thank you, Matt.
God bless you. God bless you, Riller. God bless. But All right, hey Just one more time. Hey, DG, just saying hi to you.
And hopefully, Joanne and Matt heard me say happy anniversary.
Well, I like to do that one time. I met a guy, I was with my wife. Late wife, we were shopping and I was talking to her, and some guy recognized my voice. And so I had a radio show here in the Treasure Valley of Idaho here for a few years, many years actually. And he recognized my voice.
We got talking. And he says, oh man, my kids love your show. We come home from whatever school or whatever it was. And we always turn you on. They love you.
And I said, really? I said, that's interesting. How old are they? And you know, like 10, 11, 12, kind of that range. I said, I have an idea.
How about if you tell me their names and tomorrow on the radio I'll mention them on the air? And he goes, Oh, that would be great. I said, But I want you to email me and tell me the reaction. I just, that's all I want. I just want you to email me because I'll do it.
So I gave my email address. And so the next day, I was, you know, on the radio. Oh, by the way, hello. And I gave the three names. Oops.
That's it. These three boys. And so then he wrote me a couple hours later, he wrote me. He said they're in the car driving to turn on Matt Slick. And so you're listening.
And then. I told him when I would do it, at the beginning of the show, you know, within three minutes of the beginning of the show.
So he said, that's perfect. And he said they just froze. They stopped moving. They stopped talking. They just stared at each other.
They stared at him and then they started yelling. And you're square.
So, anyway, I got a big kick out of that. I love that. It was fun.
So, I'm just saying hi to people.
So, that's reminded me of that. All right. Having gotten that out of my system, let's get to Steve from Utah. Steve, welcome. You're on the air.
Hello, Matt. Doing all right by God's grace. By God's grace, that's for sure. Doing all right. What do you got, buddy?
I had a question about uh Yeah. We're all If we're faithful enough to Get to heaven. and were saved. And then you have the Um Those of us who may have earned a lot of rewards in heaven, so a one of uh God's crown jewels. It's Lot of kudos.
And um is there I mean, and like Satan was one of his top angels. Correct? Yeah. So Satan rebelled.
Now could Would there be a possibility Bash. Individuals Thanks. Go to heaven and receive. A lot of rewards. Is there a possibility that there could be some rebellion against God in a similar way that Satan rebelled against God?
Yeah. That's a one-time thing. It happened, and a third of the angels fell, as 1 Peter 5:21, I think, says. Actually, Revelation says a third. But nevertheless, no, there's not going to be any more rebellion in heaven.
Nothing like that is taught in Scripture. Not going to happen.
Okay.
Does that mean that the in in heaven our free will is We don't have the free will that we have. Because individuals may have free will and decide to do something like that.
Well, the will is consistent with a nature.
So God has free will. He's holy. He can never sin, he can never do anything wrong.
So the free will Let me ba back it up a little bit and explain something. A nature doesn't do anything. It just is. A nature has properties and characteristics. Personhood or person acts and does things, but he does things consistent with his nature.
A fallen person acts in a manner consistent with his fallen nature. God acts in a manner consistent with his holy nature. What will be our state, our nature, when we get to heaven?
Now, there's debates about this. I can't say I know for sure. But we're going to be changed, new creatures, resurrected, etc.
So if that includes the issue of removing our fallen nature-in-ness, then we will behave in a manner freely, free will, consistent. I've got to put you on, there's too much. Hold on. Yeah, there's just too much background noise coming, okay? Woo.
Um So, in heaven, if we're as the new creatures and in the redeemed bodies, if we don't have that sin nature anymore. is part of us, then we have free will to only do that which is holy and good.
Okay, hey, we got a break, so hold on, Steve. We'll be right back. We'll get back on at the air. If you want to give me a call, the number is 877-207-2276. We'll be right back.
It's Matt Slick Live, taking your calls at 877-207-2276. Here's Matt Slick. All Robert, welcome back to the show. Let's get back along with Steve again from Utah. A lot of background noise there, Steve, so it's hard to.
You still got the background noise? Uh look now I don't know about now. Go ahead. How how about now? Is that better?
It seems to be.
Okay.
Okay.
Okay.
Yeah, I had my air conditioner up on high and That might have been given. uh the noise but Yeah. is um When God created the angels, Were they created with a sinless nature as Yeah.
So Why would Satan and a third of the angels replace? Bell. They don't have the quality of holiness, which is a property of God's nature alone. The created beings, we have the elect angels. Let me, I have a theory about this, 521.
I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and Christ and of His chosen angels, elect angels. Apparently, there are angels who were chosen by God not to fall. And God intervened, did something. We don't know what that means. And so when I looked at that one day, I thought, okay, his chosen angels, the elect angels.
It's the same kind of thing that happens with Christians. We're the chosen ones. He chose us before the foundation of the world.
So I have a theory, just my theory, that if you don't have the holy quality of God's nature, you will end up sinning. Period, because only God cannot sin, and that is a property that belongs to God alone, cannot be given to a created thing, and therefore just a matter of time before they do something wrong. And this is why there are chosen angels. God did something, chose them.
Something's in effect by which they would not fall. And then we believers, we fallen people, are also chosen for salvation. 2 Thessalonians 2:13 says so. All right?
Okay.
Yeah, I I I kinda get it. It's um Just a little bit of a I don't know. I still have I have a hard time Understanding that That specific. statement because I thought All the angels were created without sin and would not sin, but you're saying that the They needed to be created with the holiness of God and be sinless. Correct?
No, no. Uh my theory is uh that holiness is a an essential property of God's nature.
So, an essential property means it belongs to God. And It's it cannot be given away. It cannot be given to, it's like God is everywhere. That's an essential property of God. We and angels can't be.
everywhere. Because we don't possess that ability. It belongs to God alone.
So Likewise, I suspect that when God says, Be holy, for I am holy, He's talking about His nature. First Peter si one sixteen. and I conclude that holiness is an essential property of God. And it belongs to God's nature, and it cannot be given to us. like omniscience cannot be given to us.
Yes, I was going to say.
So omnipotence or omniscience is not a quality of the angels, nor would it be a quality of us. Right.
If we have salvation, correct? We have salvation, but we can still fall. I mean, still sin.
So this is something I've been working on. I don't have all the answers to it. I'm not going to die in this hill. But I lean towards the idea That all created things cannot share in the essential properties of God. His essential property of He's everywhere, He knows everything.
We can't have that. He's holy. It's part of His nature. We can't have that holiness.
Now people say I might say, wait a minute, it says be holy, you know, and uh what does it mean? I I the holiness deals with his moral purity. We can't have the equality of moral purity that God does.
So I suspect what's going on is that through the only through the work of Christ, the atonement of Christ, can the holiness that is Christ by nature be, so to speak, reckoned to us. As though it's ours. Because the blood of Christ, God in flesh, cleanses us from all sin, and we are then justified by faith, Romans 5:1, Romans 3:28, etc. And so therefore we are seen By God the Father through Christ were seen. as being holy.
It's counted like that. It's called imputation of righteousness, which is purity according to the law. And this gets into legality and the nature of the atoning work, and that's another topic.
So this is why I suspect that all created beings that are sentient are self-aware. They will eventually sin because they don't possess by nature the quality of holiness, which is the essential property to God. And this is why I think, I just think this, maybe I'm wrong. When it says in 1 Timothy 5:21 that chosen angels, I I think what that means is God chose certain angels not to fall, and He somehow intervened upon them and within them that they would not then fall. That doesn't mean he violated their will, but the Bible says that God moves the heart of the king where he wishes it to go, Proverbs 21:1.
So he can move things and do things, and that way they still have free will.
Now, some people make the mistake of thinking God will never violate our free will. Of course, he does, he does it all the time. Like my free will says I don't want to be disciplined by God. He disciplines me. People are going to, on their free will, are not going to want to go to hell.
They're going to be going to hell.
So, this, this, uh, This immature, uneducated idea that God will never violate your free will. He's a gentleman. It's just, yes. You know, I wish they'd leave the kindergarten theology and move into biblical theology. You know.
And so. Uh So he anyway, something happened, I believe, that happened to the angels by God's fiat, God's work, that they would not then fall. Another question that arises: what about now? Since, whenever that happened, a kabillion years ago, whatever it is, I don't know. Can they then fall?
Now and I would assume the answer is no.
Well, why? These are just questions I cannot answer. If they have that fruit. And then there's another issue. of what's called continuity of essence.
Because But essence has the inherence of properties. And so if the essence changes, the properties change. Or if the prop essential properties change, the essence must also have already been changed.
So if the essence of the angels are still the same where they don't fall, Does it mean that they're the same inner identity? These are just questions, and I know how to answer most of them, but I don't want to get into this kind of stuff over the air with people. But these are some of the things I think about and wonder about. Still thinking through, if that makes sense.
Okay.
Well, sounds like you think a lot like I do, so Your poor wife. Yeah, yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah, yeah. I mean, it's it's about everything. I come up with some of the most. Useless knowledge things that you can you can uh take a stick at.
So So what you're saying is the only the only omnipotent being would be God, and there are no omnipotent angels, nor will there be omnipotent humans. Correct. in in heaven. They will be um They will be guided by God on what to do and where to go and. Everything else like that.
There's going to be stuff there that we're just not even able to understand here. And when we get there, it'll make sense. And so I just don't have to worry about all of it. You know, we walk by faith. Yeah.
It says.
So I think about these things. I try and give answers to them. And I'll say, like I've been saying now, I think this is what it might be. I could be wrong, but I'm not going in. Mm-hmm.
Okay.
All right. Well, that kind of helps clear it up for me because I kind of thought. You know, once we Achieve salvation, and if we especially if we're achieve salvation, it's granted to us by God in faith that God grants to us. We don't achieve salvation. I use the wrong word.
I got it. I got it. When we have salvation or when we are saved, yeah, it's good. Right.
And then, you know, those with more rewards and stuff like that, they none of them would still be an omnipotent being.
So correct. It cannot be, because that's a property that belongs to God alone.
Okay.
All right. I kind of thought the opposite of that. I thought maybe we would be kind of all-knowing and stuff like that. No, that's like Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox heresy, where Mary can hear millions of prayers simultaneously spoken. These are degrees of properties of the same thing.
Yeah, it's really bad.
Okay.
All right. Well, I appreciate the conversation, and I hope you have a wonderful weekend. You too.
Well, God bless and thank you. All right. Okay.
God bless you too. Bye. Bye. All right, we got a break coming up like in a few seconds.
So, what I'm going to do is say we'll get to Dempsey from Virginia next, and then after the break, that is, and then Nick from Virginia. Ooh, look at that. After that, okay, there's the music, and we'll be right back, ladies and gentlemen, right after these messages. Please stay tuned. It's Matt Slick Live, taking your call at 877-207-2276.
Here's Matt Slick. Everybody, welcome back to the show. Let's get on with Dempsey from Virginia. Dempsey, welcome. You're on the air.
Thank you. How you doing? Doing all right, man. Hanging in there.
So what do you got? I was wondering. And again, you know how when you read and read, God, you can read the Bible. A million times and you're still going to get more out of it. I wanted to talk about Judas Iscariot and It seems to me that What he did could have been compassion and not necessarily betrayal.
in that at the last supper, if I get this wrong, Matt, I'm Let me know, but After Jesus sought the bread, and said that, you know, one of the guys here will betray me. Use left. And Then later on Jesus left. I know he took Peter, and I think he took Zebedee's boys. And he went somewhere else, another location, And that's where they kept falling asleep.
And he's like, stay awake, stay awake. And then he's talking to the father about. Can you take this cup away from me if it be your will? or anything, but How did Judas Nowhere Jesus was going to be unless Jesus had told him beforehand.
So I'm not sure what you're getting at. Um'cause there's a lot of different things you said.
So it's about Judas, right? You're saying was he doing something good? I'm sorry, Matt. I'm a little nervous, but it's okay. It's like the third the thirty pieces of silver.
Didn't Judas take care of the money for the the twelve and the whole group. As well, and I'll do it.
Well, hold on, hold on, hold on, let me jump in. Yes, he did, and he was stealing from the money box. That's John 12:6.
So you're saying that's a good idea. Yeah. teaching me, but I knew we knew the prop I mean, it had to be fulfilled it had to come to pass. Could there have been any compassion in that Because Jesus, I don't even want to use it.
Okay, just ask the question because you kind of ask the question halfway through, you then go into a different direction.
So I'm waiting for the question. It's a precise question so I could kind of see if I can answer it. I'll try to be a little more succinct.
Okay.
Could what. Could what Judas Would he Went and betrayed Jesus. Could it have been part out of compassion because he knew the. Prophecy had to be fulfilled. No, no, no, no, no.
No, because Judas is it's never said in the scriptures that he was uh motivated out of compassion. He was motivated by money, he was called a thief, Satan entered him, Jesus condemned him. Nothing in the scripture says it was motivated out of compassion.
Okay.
But it does speak of him rep just repenting, right? Yes, repenting, but that's after the fact, but it was too late, and he, you know, Jesus says he's the son of perdition. in John seventeen.
So that was better if he'd never been born. See, I thought any time they talked about the son of perdition, it was the devil or Satan himself. I didn't know. Yeah, he's uh Yeah. In John 17, Jesus says that none were lost except the Son of Perdition.
referring to Judas. Oh wow. I'm going to have to read that as again as soon as we get off because I've read that a few times and I always just assumed it meant the Antichrist or the devil himself.
Well, we can go there and take a look. He says like in verse 9 of John 17, I ask on their behalf. Do not ask on behalf of the world, but of those whom you have given me. for they are yours. He's talking about the disciples in immediate context.
And all things that are mine are yours, and yours are mine, and I have been glorified in them. I am no longer in the world, and yet they themselves are in the world. And I come to you, Holy Father, keep them in your name, the name which you have given me, that they may be one as even as we are. While I was with them I was keeping them in your name, which you have given me, and I guarded them, and not one of them perished, but the son of perdition, that the scripture might be fulfilled. That's that's reference to Judas.
Okay.
appreciate that. And I heard the real quick, and I know there's other people wanting to speak with you, but I heard the last caller. And it is a tough it's not a concept, but that we can't earn our way into salvation. That is a free gift. And You know, you can't be better.
Or Right. The false religions. The false religions say that we have to cooperate with God by doing good works to demonstrate our faith to God and to others in order to achieve, attain, maintain, or regain our salvation by our works. And all of those are false gospels. And Galatians 1:8:9 says those who hold them are accursed.
Yep. And I think well, I think Jesus, that was his covenant. With the that you know, you will die and you will rise again.
So I think everybody, right, That is going to go through that.
Now, what happens? After you arise again, You know, your judgment. But yes, seems like it's for everybody, but we still want to be able to, I guess, Again. The past teachings are so prevalent that It's just ingrained in our heads, but Right, there's a lot of money. Yeah.
Right, there's false religions around us. Mormonism is a non Christian religion, Jehovah's Witnesses, Christadelphianism, Christian Science, Islam, Roman Catholicism, Eastern Orthodoxy. Oriental orthodo orthodoxy. Yep, there's a lot of false religions out there. Oh wow.
The Catholic Church into it, and I've wondered about that because they treat the Pope like he is, or I think they even refer to him as God on earth or something. And that's just in itself. No, the vicar of Christ. And no, the reason the Catholic Church is a false church is because it preaches a false gospel and promotes idolatry. Could you go into a little bit about the idolatry?
Sure. They say they teach and hold the position that Mary, among others, Mary can hear millions of prayers simultaneously spoken and thought, that she's worth adoration. You can't even come to God except through Mary. Looking at the church, the Catholic Church says, when considering the church, there's no better way to look than to Mary. Yeah, things like this.
Yeah, and that is definitely blasphemous. Yeah, it is. Yeah, it's a cult. It's a false religion. Yeah, it's a false it's a and you know what's interesting is when I watch old movies now, they have Catholic priests as as the the the um representative of goodness, you know, in a in a bl old black and white movie, I just my I just snarl.
Back then, they were infiltrating it. He says, False teacher.
So that's just me. All right. Uh Yeah, real real quick. I think that When Jesus talks about, you're going to be surprised who's not in heaven. And I think there's a lot of people.
looking out the windows of these churches one Jesus doesn't say that you'll be surprised who's not there.
Okay.
Could he have been talking about the church or, you know, certain churches? I don't understand the I don't understand the question.
Sorry? Act. It's And again, I'm sorry if I can't see it exact, but he did say you would be surprised who's not there or how many aren't there. I don't know of any place in Scripture where Jesus says you will be surprised of who's there or not there.
Okay.
Thank you. How does it, if a person, you know, they go to this church and their mother went to the church, their mother's mother. And The same thing with the preacher. That preacher, his grandfather was a preacher, and before him, And they're teaching wrong. Yeah, don't understand.
Is there a question in there? Is there a question in there? No, I'm going to let you go because I could talk to you for hours. But thank you so much. And I'm going to get into what we spoke about earlier.
All right. Well, sounds good.
Okay, God bless. Thank you, Mr. Fully. You too.
Okay.
All right. All right, let's get to Nick from Virginia. Nick, welcome. You're on the air. Hey, Matt, how you doing?
Doing all right. Hanging in there, man. Hanging in there.
What do you got, buddy? Well, it's kind of a broad question, so I'll do my best to kind of narrow it down for you. But I know we don't have a lot of time, but what are your thoughts on the Ethiopian Bible? Yeah. It has good scriptures in it.
such as Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, etc., but it has extra books that are not biblical and are not inspired. First Enoch, Jubilees, Ethiopia Maccabees, 2 Maccabees, Baruch, Tobit, Judith, Esdras, Wisdom of Solomon, Sirach, Baruch, additions to Daniel, additions to Esther, Prayer of Manasseh, and the Book of Josephus of Ben-Gorion.
Okay.
Got a list here I'm looking at for my Research. Yeah, so so I guess my question therein is Um What's to say that the extra books that they have in the Bible shouldn't have been included in the Western Bible? Because Jesus did not include them, the Jews did not include them, and the early church did not include them.
Okay.
Um So I guess my other question would be oh, kind of touched on Okay. It kind of touched on, you were talking about this earlier. I can't remember exactly where in the Bible, but it talks about how. I I can't remember exactly which apostle it was, but the one that spoke to the Ethiopian on the road. Yeah, Philip, uh-huh, in Acts chapter 8.
Yep. Mm-hmm. Yeah. So there's just there's just debate going around right now about how like, oh, well, you know, these extra books that are in the Ethiopian Bible, who's to say that they weren't supposed to be in the Western Bible, like because unfortunately, there was like a lot of political figures that tried to take stuff out.
Okay, that's a bunch of crud. People are that's not accurate. All right. Okay.
So. The Jews were the ones given the The oracles of God, trusted oracles of God. Romans 3:2, Paul the Apostle says the Jews were trusted with the oracles of God. The Jews did not recognize those books as being authentic, they're intertestamental. That means between the book of Malachi and the time of Christ.
Roughly four hundred year period is when they were produced. The Jews knew about them, and Paul said that God had entrusted the Jews with the oracles of God, and they didn't accept those books. It it should be over at that point, the discussion.
Okay.
I mean, I got you.
Okay.
Yeah, don't listen to the O Ethiopian, don't listen to the Roman Catholics and their extra books and the Ro and the Eastern Orthodox. They say their church gave us the Bible, their church tells us what the Bible really is. All this stupidity that they do and their false teachings. All right. Okay.
Yeah, I was just curious, you know, because I mean, Yes, I was just curious basically as to like why those extra books in the the first Enoch and so on. I'm just curious like why they basically aren't in the Western Bible. Because they were never in the Bible to begin with. They were never considered scripture. All right.
The Catholics and Eastern Orthodox like to accuse the Protestants of taking him out. Nope. They were never in. And then they'll quote varying church history guys.
Well, you see, so-and-so considered this book true, and so therefore it's true. And I'll say another church father considered the same book to be false, so therefore it's false.
So I have a saying, My church father can beat up your church father.
So what they do is they argue one-sided uh arguments. They don't look at they don't do the whole Homework they need to.
Okay? We gotta go because we're out of time, brother.
Okay.
