Hey everybody, welcome to the show. It's me, Matt Slick. And you're listening to Matt Slick Live. Today's date is October 13th, 2020. 2025.
Just want to say that I'm going to be out of the studio for two weeks in. Starting in November, because I'm going to out of country, Lord dwelling, and going to Jordan. I'll be there for two weeks and then come back, and we'll start the radio again. And uh I'm gonna go see Sodom and Gomorrah. I'm gonna go see Petra and other things.
And um Looking forward to that. A lot of good fun, a lot of good time. I've done this many times and Um The reason I'm able to go is because, and go, you know, about once a year, is because. We have people who sign up underneath me, and then therefore I'm able to go. Just how it works.
So it cuts the cost down significantly for me to be able to get there. And. And just enjoy, you know, and enjoy the scenery. You know, been to Israel, been to Turkey, been to Greece, been to Italy, been seen a lot of stuff. And now we're going to go to Jordan.
And then after that, I think it's about it. I've seen everything I can see. Except if we were to go to England and do a Reformation tour, I think that'd be interesting. I'd like to do that. But England and Germany and France and stuff like that.
My wife has relatives in France, and my ancestors are from Germany.
So I wouldn't mind doing something like that. You never know.
Well anyway, I'm just blabbing. If you want to give me a call, the number is easy. All I have to do is dial 877-207-2276.
Now I mentioned on Friday that we are having difficulties with our one of our systems, one of the systems we've been using for a long time. And let's just say it's become very problematic to work at. Yeah, I don't know what's wrong. I don't know why. I don't know what's going on.
But um We're trying to move to a new newsletter system. I didn't know that the newsletters weren't going out. I mentioned that. And I've got a a lot of work. for that.
We got two weeks to get a new donation uh shop system in. We've got two weeks to get the The site is ready and all of its little bitty things that we're working on.
So making progress there. And hopefully everything will go well. And what we're going to do on Friday, which is on the twenty fourth of this month, is Friday twenty fourth. My the the anniversary birthday of Carm is October twenty fifth. which it'll be thirty years old, the website I've been working on.
for thirty years and um We're going to have a thing on that evening where we're going to have people call in or get on EV Mucks actually and just talk. We're just going to have an open kind of a mic thing and stuff like that and testimonies and whatever. And that's it. When Carm was 20, we had a really, really nice shindig. We had people flew in, and it was great.
We had a great thing. My wife put it together. uh with a local thing and and she took six months to do it. She did a great job, but Uh They're just not up to doing that again.
So we're just going to have a um A nice get get together online. That's what we're going to do. Lord willing, Lord willing. All right, now look, if you want to give me a call, all you have to do. Is Val 877?
2276. You can give me a call. I want to hear female. And um So uh Ooh, wow. Mm, yeah.
I just saw something. There's in near us in Burleigh. Idaho, there's going to be a a Mormon temple opening up. And I'm gonna see what they just saw this. Yeah.
Oh man, I'm gonna be in Europe. Darn. I would absolutely go out there. The day that it opens is the day I go.
So, um I will be back. I'll be back in time to go out there a little bit, so I'll be able to do that a little bit. But anyway, it it's uh in Burleigh, which is, for those of you who might know, that is a little east of uh Twin Falls.
So from here, my house, it's about two and a half hour drive. And that's not a problem at all. Yeah. So there's that. And um I'm looking for something a friend of mine gave me.
And Where is it? He sent me some stuff and I'm gonna find it because he he's in Southern California And He um is going to a church They're trying a new church, whatever it is, and they have women pastors there. And he's been talking to That pastor. And also. He uh met somebody online they have a connection and there's some other stuff going on.
Anyway. He My friend Dave, I have a lot of Dave, friend's name, Dave.
So, uh I said to him, I'm going to probably use this on the radio today because it was a profoundly bad example of what we call exegesis. To exegete scripture means to read that which is in it, to look at what's in it and get out of it what is there.
So, this is on the topic of women, pastors, and elders, and he was saying. To his friend, that the Bible doesn't support women pastors, women, elders. And um The argument Let's see if I can get this in. the argument that he said was so bad Not not my friend, but uh it's uh the other guy of his from his It said, We're in the end times now, and so it's wide open in the Bible. And it says the rocks will speak out if someone doesn't tell us about Jesus, so therefore women can preach.
And I have never heard that argument. In my 45 years of apologetics, I've never heard that argument. And uh It's one of the worst arguments I've ever heard in my life. It it is so bad. And so, people very often, what they'll do in order to justify their error, their heresy.
is they will Go to Scripture and shred it. They don't know what it means to interpret scripture properly. They don't know that you can't take something that's a metaphor. And then turn it into a literal biblical teaching to contradict something in a pastoral epistle that has direct instruction on how you behave in the church.
So You know I was dumbfounded by that argument because it is that bad. And yet so this is what was presented. And so, uh It was just an example of the lack of critical thinking that is so relevant, prevalent, I should say, today. Which reminds me.
So my wife and I went and checked out a Better fellowship. Yesterday. And we went there and nice people, great people there, you know. And um Oh And so in a discussion after uh the fellowship. Um We got talking.
This one guy and apparently his wife. I don't know. I haven't. They were talking about flat earth, and I'm looking at them with disbelief. I said, do you affirm the flat earth theory?
Oh yeah, of course we do. And You know, I'm like like I've met some people in real life who really believe this. And um So I said, well, it's easily refutable. By using the moon. It is.
It's easily refutable. And so I proceeded to explain it and Let's just say That I'll go to what I said. Let's just say that you know, respectfully, lovingly. They had no clue about about basic physics. No clue whatsoever.
And something as simple as this.
So imagine this. Flat earth model, right? You have a, and this is what I explained to him: you have a dome. over a a a a circle, a disc. Let's say the three it's a three foot diameter disc.
Mm-hmm. And that's the flat earth. And then over the over there's a dome and the dome's maybe a couple of feet high. And I said, is that the model that you believe? They said, oh, yeah, that's it, that's the true model.
And I said, Young, you have two orbs of equal size, the sun and the moon. In the upper middle of the dome area, either embedded in the dome that rotates or just underneath it. And they said, Yeah, that's right underneath it. And it says, okay. And I said, all right, now let's look at this.
There's several things I brought up.
So from that, if you imagine that, and I had my hand about two feet above the ground, I said, above the table, we're talking, I said, if the moon is right here, then that would mean that any place in that circle under the dome, you would always be able to see the moon, right? And they said yes. Mm-hmm. Okay.
Now it also means you'd always be able to see the sun, right? at any time. The suns are always visible. And That's just logically necessary. And they said, no, it doesn't mean that.
And this is uh Yes, it does. Because it's logically necessary It's physics, it's basic physics, it's line of sight. You can see it any place up there. And then one guy goes, the guy said, Well, you see, there's atmospheric conditions that block out the sun.
Well then why can you still see the moon? If 'cause the moon's not as bright, as the sun. And yet you can't see the sun, but you can see the moon? because of these same atmospheric conditions. And then the lady, you know, bless her heart, um said that the sun acted like a flashlight.
that it was being directed. And uh I said, but it's a glowing sphere. Are you saying there's a hood around it that points it down? Is that what it is? You know, it it and they said, Yeah, it it's like a flashlight.
It only points at a certain part of the uh. Yeah, okay.
Okay.
So let's get back to the moon, I said. In this model of three-foot diameter circle, and about two feet up is where the moon is, then. And I said on this side Motion my left hand. They'll see one side of the moon, and I'm motioned on the other side to the right side of this sphere, you know. this imaginary.
table. I said you'd be able to see a different side of the moon, right?
Now this is where they actually started To see. There's a problem here. And One guys. If I remember if I remember correctly, he said, no, you'll see the same side.
Okay.
I said, let's try this again.
So they're on opposite sides of this circle. and the moon's in the upper middle, They're going to see different sides, right? From the angle, you won't see the same side. Right? And finally, you know, the guy Yeah, and I said, then why is it whenever you go to a place in the moon, you always see the same, I mean, any place on the earth, you always see the same side?
I said, I've been to Turkey, I've been to Greece, been to Italy, looked at the moon, it's the same. I've been in the Philippines, look at the moon, it's the same.
So uh you know I've been to uh Venezuela, the moon's the same. I've been to Columbia. the moon's the same. And Mexico it's the same. Panama.
You know.
So Why is that? I said, the only way you could do that Is if the moon, I said, I raise it up, you know, it's like 10 feet in the air, then the angle of incidence, the angle of viewing, would be virtually identical from any place on this circle. and they would see the same side, the same underside. in this in this analogy. And uh You could hear the crunch weak.
drag as the wheels came off the cart and um They're trying to explain how that didn't make sense. And the guy actually said to me, Well, you don't understand the basics of how things work. And Okay.
Okay.
Yeah, okay.
And then I'll tell you what he said on why. This is important. Right after the break, if you want to give me a call, 877-20-2002. 72276. We'll be right back.
It's Matt Slick Live, taking your call at 877-207-2276. Here's Matt Slick. All right everyone welcome back to the show now we've got a couple callers coming in And uh let me just get to the reason. that uh That This Great. Deception.
Of the spherical earth. uh exists. It's uh to deny God. That's what they said, is to deny God. because the Bible says the earth is flat.
And um I said, Well, okay, well, okay, you know. Uh One of the things here is There's an issue called falsifiability. There's no way to falsify somebody because people don't they don't care what the facts are. This happens in cults, it happens in science, it happens in all kinds of stuff. You know, my wife and I are watching a series about uh Amanda Knox and how she was railroaded uh apparently in the series it railroaded into being convicted of of murdering someone she didn't she never did.
And the, and this has happened so much, I've heard on other shows, other detect my wife likes watching that stuff, so we watch it together. True documentaries on this and that, and people jailed and the whole thing. And sometimes the police will get on a narrow idea, and then they just, whatever the evidence is, it fits that model. They interpret it to fit that model.
So, uh for example, this woman young woman went back into the into the crime scene and it it was emotionally overwhelming for her and they interpreted it as her feeling guilty. And it's not what it was, you know.
So, uh, People have a way of filtering facts to make it fit with their presuppositions. The same thing with the flat Earth.
Now, one of the ways of determining that. There If they're really Objectively a watching. and paying attention and if they could be is the issue of falsifiability. And you ask them something like, is there any way to prove that that model is incorrect, the flat earth model? and they'll say, There's no way.
So, if I were to buy you a ticket and you go up in a balloon. up into the stratosphere, whatever it is. And uh you look out and you see the the curved earth, would that convince you? And you ask these questions like this. There's even a, maybe someone knows where to get the information, a documentation.
A flat earther got a gyroscope, and they pay like $20,000 or $30,000. And they. got a got a series of of uh tickets to go around the world. The supposed globe. And the gyroscope was supposed to prove that as long as they were flying, it would stay level.
And it didn't. It actually. altered, twisted, just like a wood going around the globe. And then they said, Well, the the equipment's defective. You know, it's just stuff like this.
It's ridiculous. Anyway, uh That was my weekend, entertaining. Let's get to Carl from Ohio. Carl, welcome, you're on the air.
Okay, let's see if I can explain this. I have these group of friends. Un well, I'm black, they call themselves Old. referring to themselves as Black Hebrews, They're in Christ, they say, but they're adding to grace. They're going back to keeping all these dietary laws.
Holy Sides shelters Leviticus 23, keeping all this stuff. Who are these people? They're wacko wacko racists, uh cultists, okay? Uh Yeah, that's what it is. And so, let me give you a little bit of information.
They claim they're the descendants of Jacob and are blessed. The descendants of, these are my notes. file. I actually have an outline on on BHI. Uh the descendants of Esau the Edomites are the white people and they're cursed.
So uh I've been called a black a white devil. Because I'm white.
Okay.
And, you know, and white people are evil, basically. They're Oedomites. And uh They are the descendants of the transatlantic slave trade and are the true Israelites. Yes, that's what they were saying. Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, and I had mentioned Christ. I said, Well, you know that we all have to come through Christ, whether you're black, white, Latino, Asian, doesn't matter, Jew, doesn't matter. And they just scurried past that and just got back on this agenda again. You know, they want to hear about Christ, they just want to talk about this thing.
So Okay, I'll be right back. It what? Are they in the kingdom or not? No, no, no, no. It's a cult.
Okay, that's what I because you know what? They live in like a compound with these groups of people, they all share cars. They graze their own vegetables. And I've been knowing these people forever, but they went back to these Levitical laws. dietary laws and all this stuff.
It's fascinating to me. Yeah. Yes, so they deny the Trinity, deny that Jesus is God, deny the deity of the Holy Spirit, deny justification by faith. Christian holidays are pagans. And now there's a lot of different, there's a variation of BHI.
or they just call themselves uh Hebrew Israelites now. They don't want to say black Hebrew Israelites because there are different skin colors sk different skin colors that that are allowed in as long as you're basically you're not white.
So and I've talked to BHI people before. I said, you're just a racist. You're a racist. I said there's only one race in the in the in the world. the human race, were just of different colors and sizes.
There's only one race. I don't believe in this crap. about black race, white race, Asian race. I don't I don't buy that for a second. We're all one race.
this year in Christ. You're done. You're out, period. There's only going to be a remnant of Jews saved. Not all Jews are in Christ, okay?
And I understand that. And but they just don't see it that way. They're like, you know, they're on this black thing and this I don't know, man. It's it's strange to me because I thought that they were like Well, they were once enlightened of thought Then all of a sudden they have reverted back. to all of this and I I just don't understand it.
And they are dogmatic about it, you know, so uh Yeah, it it's a cult and um I know a guy who's one of the experts, United States experts. He's one of the top experts on it. And uh So Um, I need to bone up on these guys. I need to get to the point where I can just argue with them off the cuff. I'm not there yet, but I have my notes and I open it up and I can, I, you know, I'll just do that.
So, uh they uh They twist the word of God a great deal. They use a 1611 King James. and only they are the ones who have the right to use the Bible.
So they're the only ones who could truly understand it.
So uh They uh generally uh include the apocryphal books as well.
Okay.
I'm gonna stress and these, you know what? They are very bright intellectual people. They're very bright, very smart people. They are trained to brainwashed. Your brain.
You have to bring one.
Okay.
So get this: the 12 tribes of Israel were all black. Judah is the American blacks, Benjamin the West Indian blacks. Levi are the Haitians, and Ephraim is a Puerto Rican's. Manasseh is a Cubans, Simeon is the Dominican, Zebulon, Guatemala to P to Panama. The Mayans.
GAD is Native American Indians. Reuben is Seminole Indians. Asher is Colombian Uruguay. Ishakar is Mexicans, and Naphtali is the Argentinians.
Okay, so they will include Latinos, Native Americans. But white people are the devil. And I'm not going to hold you long. This makes me think of 1 John. 219, you know, how you know they left us because they're not really of us.
I'm like, were they ever of us? Then, because the spirit of Christ lives in me, I could never believe in something like that. I wouldn't know how to believe that because truth lives in me.
So, I'm like, were there ever of us? Yeah, another word about it. It's just manifested. It's uh uh uh it's just a racist group. It's and that's why I call them all the time when I talk to them, you're just racists.
Because they are. You're ungodly, unbiblical. Legalistic racists, and I call them out on it, and man, they do not like it. But that's where it's all. And I tell them the same thing.
I say, there's only one race. God created one race, the human race. Adam and Eve are our ancient parents. We're just different in sizes, in colors, and you know shapes and that's it.
So, yeah, this racist stupidity. All right, buddy, there's a break.
Okay, go ahead. Thank you for explaining that to me. I appreciate it. All right, man. God bless Carl.
Alright, hey, if you want to give me a call, all I got to do is dial 8772. Zero seven. 2276, be right back. It's Matt Slick Live, taking your calls at 877-207-2276. Here's Matt Slick.
All right, everybody, and welcome back to the show. If you want to give me a call, all you got to do is dial 8-772-072. 2276, just like always. Let's get to Patrick. From North Carolina, Patrick, welcome.
You're on the air. Uh hello, Matt. Um How you doing? I'm doing all right, hanging in there.
So what's up? Um Now you know on Friday the man called in about a pastor that had adultery. Yeah. convicted of that adultery, he had to immediately leave his pastoring ship My question is, did he also lose his salvation? You can't lose salvation if you really have salvation.
Jesus says he will lose none. I know, but the will of the father is that Jesus will lose none. John 6, 39.
So Jesus can't lose his salvation.
So he didn't lose his salvation after having adultery as a pastor.
Okay, so then that's what Jesus says.
Now, I'm telling you, Scripture, Patrick, we've gone through so many things over the years that that's what the Bible says.
Okay, if they went out from us, they were never of us. If they were of us, they would have stayed. 1 John 2, 19.
So can someone commit varying degrees of sin and still be saved? That is true. This is not, yes, they can. And this is not to approve of such things. but they should be severely disciplined and they forfeit their right to preach and teach.
Okay?
Okay.
Well then um my question too is If you're an elder and you do not follow the requirements to be an elder, are you? Can you be a pastor? Can an elder be a pastor if they're not required to be an elder? By definition, a pastor's an elder.
Okay.
So are you You personally, you're not required to be a An elder because your daughters are atheists. Is that true?
Okay, so a pastor by definition is an elder by definition.
Okay.
Now When you're in the middle of the morning, A pastor is different than an elder.
Okay.
Okay.
Um Patrick, you know Europe You repeatedly demonstrate a lack of understanding of Scripture, And I repeatedly correct you.
So let me Let me help you out here. first Timothy five seventeen. The elders who rule well are to be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who work hard at prayer. preaching and teaching.
So the pastor is someone who preaches and teaches. by definition is what he does.
So it says the elders are to rule well, especially those who work hard at preaching and teaching. Therefore, a pastor. is an elder.
Okay.
Well, what about a pastor elder that is not required, doesn't have the requirements to be a elder? Can they be a pastor? No, if they don't have the requirements to be an elder, they shouldn't be an elder. And they can't be a pastor. Right.
But that's why I'm asking you personally because you've admit your daughters are atheists, and so your family is not. One is. One out of three is.
Okay.
Well, one is okay, but but according to you on m on carm, you say that If a elder's family isn't in order, they're not allowed to be an elder. Yeah. And now here's the things you have to. to deal with here. Because we've talked about this or I've talked about this many times over the years.
What do you do with an elder? a pastor. As the Bible says, for example, he is to be the husband of one wife. All right. I think it's a very good idea.
So what happens if his wife dies? Is he no longer able to be an elder because you'd be a husband of one wife?
Well, no, that's not what it means. Is talking normatively about the conditions and requirements of a man in order to be an elder. He's supposed to have his. Family in order.
So the family, when they're in my house and I'm responsible for them, then everything's in order. When they leave, if they become something other than Christian, Then what do you do? Because they have then left the house, they're not under your headship anymore. Because the Bible says you're supposed to manage your household well, but they're not in my household.
So then the question comes up: if they're outside the house living on their own, and one becomes an atheist, whose fault is that?
Well, that's that child's fault. It doesn't disqualify the parent from being an elder. Because if he's done his job right and had his household in order the whole time, then he's blameless and that person has apostasized.
Okay?
When your kids were teenagers, did you see any signs of that one daughter that she was? not believing Okay, I'm not going to talk about my family like that.
So you got other questions, that's fine.
Well, I mean, this is helpful for the people listening. You know, that might have a Yeah. Did you hear me? I said I'm not going to talk about my family like that, okay? All right.
Well, I mean, you should, I think, as in your position.
Okay.
So, um, I just hung up on him because I don't want to talk about my family like that. I don't I don't like talking about the children, how they were raised, other than generics. They were raised in a godly home. My wife and I both. Both, you know.
raise them in a godly way. Bible studies and church and and um encouragement and things like that. And that's it, that's as deep as I'll get into it. And That's it?
So, um If you guys want to call, the number is 877-207. Two two seven six. All right. Hey, let's see.
So, by the way, I'm just going to let you know that we stay on the air by your support. If you like what you hear on the radio, if you want me to stay on the air and hopefully give answers and, you know, do the best I can, then please consider supporting us. Going to carm.org at forward slash. Donate and everything you need. Oh, excuse me.
Everything in ease right there. And also, if you pray for the release of the karm site in two weeks, in less than two weeks, on this on October 25th, that's the anniversary. It will be a hundred It'll be uh 30 years old. I was just thinking ahead of myself here. I'm going to open up my file to see how many visitors we've had to the site in those 30 years.
And Yeah, it just went over 169 million.
So we've had a lot of visitors. This is what's really neat. You know, we've had 95 or 95.8 million returning visitors. That's a lot of influence. In fact, I got an email from somebody today who In fact, it was uh the guy who called last week and uh He was going to the missionary work and we gave his information out, vesselsforchrist.org, and he's in Japan right now.
And he sent me a picture of which he's with some Japanese Christians. And he said that they knew about the site, the carb site, and they they liked my teaching and stuff like that. It was just it's a smile. It's a smile, that's all. The internet makes things possible.
And some of my favorite stories that I've had from the internet about the website and its influence has been. One of them is uh O a a small island chain off the coast of Madagascar. Off the Madagascar coast. It was this, I had to look it up, and I'm zooming into the ocean.
Well, where is it? And it says dot out there. And that people were saying that they were using the material there. And then I love this. I forgot which church it was, but it was in Turkey.
And um There's one of the church churches like Sardis. I think it was Sardis actually. And I've been to all seven locations. And they said that what they did in their Christian church is they printed up an article or two from Carm and read it to the church. And I got a kick out of that because I said, oh, that's the letter of Slick to the Church of Sardis.
Yeah. Like revelation. And you got a kick out of that because, you know, it sounds so wrong. But anyway, it was a nice response. And then I got this an email from.
From another island chain in the middle of the Atlantic, southern Atlantic area. And that was really interesting. And then, one of my favorites is, and I've told this story many times: a Vietnamese guy. Pretty broken English, but just got enough information to be able to understand what he was saying. and he would take articles from Carm and he would print them up.
And then he'd get on his motorcycle and he would go into the hill country. of uh of Vietnam Then he'd walk up to where there was no more road. And he would leave his bike, his motorcycle there, a small moped kind of a thing. And then he would walk in miles ahead into the villages and teach using the material. It's just amazing.
So, those are some of the good stories that I'd love to tell. Anyway, let's get to. Ohio.
Someone's from Ohio. What's your name since What's what's your name? I'm a sincere. You are asince y you are asincere? Sincere.
That's your name? Yes, a spell with the Y, S Y N C E R E. Oh, cool.
Okay.
All right. Well, no big deal. All right. Since you're uh what do you got, man? What's up?
My question is: if someone gets saved, right, and they get born again, filled with the Spirit. Once they're saved, are they always saved? Yes. Because I have like. about the text of like if you Continue to like woefully sin, like, there remains no sacrifice for sin.
So, how do I was having a problem understanding that and thinking that it It didn't apply. Yeah. And what you're talking about is in Hebrews 10:26. And what we'll do, we'll get back. after the break.
I'll go through and address that. We can address for example Hebrews six, four to six also, okay. And we'll dress if we're on a break right now.
So hold on, buddy, okay? Hey folks, be right back after these messages. Please stay tuned. If you want to give me a call, the number. is 877207 2276.
Be right back. It's Matt Slick Live, taking a call at 877-207-2276. Here's Matt Slick. All right, everyone, welcome back to the show. If you want to give me a call, it's easy.
8772-272222222222 072276. All right, let's get back on the air with. Since here, are you there? Yes, I don't know. All right.
Okay, so the key to understanding this is to understand. Who the book of Hebrews is written to?
So in Hebrews chapter 1 and 2, Jesus is shown to be superior to the angels.
Now, the traditional belief among the Jews was that the law was given to the angels. In Hebrews 3, it talks about Moses and that Jesus is greater than Moses.
Now, that wouldn't be important unless it was to the Jews. In Hebrews 4 through 10, it talks about Jesus as the high priest. the sacrificial system. Levitical priesthood, animal sacrifices, the tabernacle, and the temple. These are details.
He goes into details.
Now this assumes that the audience knows the Old Testament sacrificial system. That would be the juice.
Alright. Make it clear. Then he says, if we go on sinning willfully, I have to receive the knowledge of the truth. What's he talking about? Does he mean you're born again?
Or does it mean that you Jews have received the knowledge of the truth of who Christ is? You've got to understand, he's the one who fulfilled the law. He is the one who's greater than the angels. He's greater than Moses. He's the high priest.
He is the high priest sacrifice from the Levitical priesthood. He's the one who performed his work and is the temple in heaven. He's the high priest after the order of Melchizedek.
So, what he's saying there, the author is saying: look, if we go on sinning willfully, if we're receiving all this, there's no sacrifice for sin. He's not saying If you as a Christian Sin continually, willfully afterwards, that you're no longer saved. It doesn't say that.
Okay, makes sense? It makes sense. Thank you. And go through Hebrews 6, 4 through 6 if you want as well. All right.
It's okay. If not, it's up to you. Do you want to do that? Yes. Okay, all right.
So Hebrews 6, 4 through 6 is another area. of Scripture that people will go to. to try and demonstrate that you can lose your salvation. And so, what it says there is for the case of those who've been enlightened.
Now, let me ask you: would you say that the Jews were enlightened? About who Christ was? Yeah. Yeah. and they tasted the heavenly gift.
And made partakers of the Holy Spirit.
Now, think about that. Jesus is walking around doing miracles inside of of Israel. The Holy Spirit would be poured out upon them. upon the people whose prophesied of Joel. Does it mean that they were saved?
And Judas He was never saved to begin with, John 6, 30 to 63. I think says Somebody says he was never saved.
Well, he tasted of the heavenly gift of Christ. And what does it mean to taste the heavenly gift? People say, what means you're saved? Tasting it means you're saved? Where's the word?
How do you get tasting it means you're saved? Where's that? Is there any other place in Scripture that says anything like this that says something like that? No, it doesn't. What what is it?
It says, and tasted the good word of God. And the powers of the age to come, and have fallen away, it's impossible to renew them again in repentance. That would make sense if it's this is to the Jews who have gotten the understanding of Christ being greater than the angels, greater than Moses, obviously greater than Abraham. and that he's the high priestly sacrifice according to the Levitical system. Which is why he was baptized, incidentally.
He was baptized to fulfill all righteousness, so he had to fulfill Levitical law. In order to be baptized. And so as baptism, it's a verbal blessing given, and that's one of the requirements. Of entering into the priesthood had to be 30 years of age. Jesus was 30.
That's a requirement in the Old Testament. He had um thirty years of age, uh anointed with oil. And that is the representation of the Old Testament of the Holy Spirit's coming upon them. And he had to be sprinkled with water. And that's what Numbers 8:7 says.
So Jesus, according to the law, had to be sprinkled with water and not immersed. It is in baptism.
So I know that shocks a lot of people, but that's what it is. That's it. That's the instruction of the Old Testament that he fulfilled, Matthew 3:15.
So, what he had to do was fulfill that law. And he did that. And that means the Jews understood everything, which is why Matthew records these, because Matthew is a Jew writing the Gospel, so the Jews will understand stuff. And he's picking these things out to show he's fulfilling the Old Testament law. And so the Jews get this idea, this understanding.
Oh.
So those who have been enlightened made partakers of the Holy Spirit, not in that they're regenerated. but that the Holy Spirit's working in and upon them, just like he did to the saints of old in the Old Testament. And they tasted the good word of God. The pun intended, right? and the powers of the age to come.
And then they fall away from that and there's nothing left. And so then it says it's impossible to renew them again to repentance.
So, what he's probably doing here is talking about those Jews who walked towards Christ, who received Christ on a superficial level, and then. went back to their old ways.
Well, if they went out from us be they were never of us. If they had been of us, they would have remained.
So Then it says they can't be renewed again to repentance because there's nothing there. Makes sense?
Okay.
Thank you. Alright, hope that helps, buddy. All right, you're welcome. God bless.
So, what I'm going to do just to go through this, I know a lot of people say, no, you can lose your salvation. Mad. The reason I say it that way is because that's how I get it told to me. Matt, you don't know anything. And I go, oh, okay, thank you then.
Well, can we go through scripture then and go see what the Bible says? And anyway, so that's what they do sometimes.
So, can we lose our salvation?
Now, think about this, ladies and gentlemen. Think about this. If you can lose it, how do you lose it? How good you have to be to keep it. Can you pet yourself?
On the back on the Day of Judgment? Yeah, you know. It was closed a few times. But I managed to be holy enough and And do enough good things and not do enough bad things. And I just I continued to choose to believe because you know that's what you got to do.
And here I am. I believe they have a Is that what the attitude would be? Ah, I hope not. You know? Um And so uh I always ask people: if you lose your salvation, what are you going to do to keep it?
This is what Jesus says in John 6:37. All that the Father gives me will come to me. Notice he does not say, All who come to me, the Father will then give them to me because they came to me. It's not what it says. All the Father gives me will come to me.
That means they're first given by the Father and then not come. That's what it says. And so Jesus says something similar in John 6, 65. You cannot come to me. Unless it's granted to you from the Father.
Mm. Ooch, that hurts a lot of people. And the one who comes to me, I will not cast out.
Okay, and in verse 39, this is the will of him who sent me, that all he's given me. I lose nothing. But raise it up on the last day, the will of the Father that Jesus not lose any. And people, you know, in their stellar Examples of logic.
Well, you can lose yourself You know. It's like uh it's like this. Let's just say there's a uh a field. a really big field. You know, it's 500 acres.
And there's a tower in the middle of it and There's a guy in there with binoculars and And his instructions are: you don't lose anybody who's in there. You always keep track of where they are. And so he could see everything. He's got heat sensors, he's got heat detectors, he's got motion detectors, okay? Is he ever going to lose anybody?
As long as they're in that area, you know, it's an analogy.
Well, of course not. But if someone says, well, I can lose myself. In there, you could go, what? Are you talking about lose yourself? Yeah, you could lose yourself.
You're still in there. Yeah. And I can see you right now. Yeah, but I lost myself.
Okay.
Yeah, well what church do you go to?
So, anyway, let's get to Jane from Idaho. Jane, welcome here on the air. Oh, I know who this is. Hey, Jane. Yeah.
Yes, you do, Matt.
So I've listened to you a lot since I met you on Sunday. Oh wow. Yesterday? That's right. Yes.
I'd sure like to hear you more often. But one question that came back. You and I said so much.
Somebody Sunday morning. said um something about the Bible has been tampered.
Well Was that you? No, no, no, no, it's never been tampered with. Oh.
Okay, 'cause I thought I didn't I talked to different people and I thought If you said that, I'd want to know. No. No, let me explain stuff. I don't know who said it, but it's probably that one guy, you know, and we're talking to. I don't know.
I'm not saying it was, but I don't know. Maybe he'd say, no, it's never been Tampa. I don't know. But it's a common thing for people to say the Bible's been messed up, it's been rewritten, it's been falsely translated, etc., etc.
So this is how it works. The Old Testament In the New Testament, both when you write Hebrew and the Old Testament, Greek and the New Testament, the letters are also numbers. The reason this is so significant is because the people who are copying this document believe they are copying the very word of the creator of the universe. And if they're going to represent his word, they better do it accurately, otherwise, they're bearing false witness of Christ in their work. They want the judgment of God on them.
So they're going to be carrying the the responsibility very well and very thoroughly. And so after they would copy, you can add up the letters to check them mathematically, not just linguistically. And so, this is how the Bible was produced.
Now, In the New Testament documents, for example, they're written in Greek, and there's roughly 6,000 supporting Greek manuscripts. And I've just read studies on this, and there are something like 98.5% textually or 98.5% and 99.8%, I've heard different ones, textually identical. in all these 6,000 different manuscripts.
So, the originals are reproduced. There's only three areas in the New Testament of any great concern. That's the. Kama Jahanium in 1 John 5, 7. These three bear witness that three are one: Father, Son, Holy Spirit.
That doesn't appear in some of the more ancient manuscripts. Then there's the woman caught in adultery in John 8. She appears in different places, or the Pericope, the section of scripture, is different places.
So some people have. Questions about it. And then there's the ending of Mark, Mark 16, 9 through 11. And I'll never preach out of that because there's 17 words that suddenly appear in those 11 verses that don't appear in the Gospel of Mark. The writing style is different, and it has a doctrinal error in verse 12.
And I didn't get into all this, we're just almost out of time. It's less than a minute.
So, know the Bible's not been tampered with. It's exceedingly reliable. And anyone who says anything different does not know what the facts are.
Okay.
Okay.
Okay, and thank you. I guess that's Yeah. That has to be what we rely on. That's the Say it once for all delivered to the saints. That's right.
So then I also Alpha mentioned that it wasn't reformed, and I'm reading all your stuff. That's right. I think my problem was Reform. Even though I see all the verse that you say is that I don't like it. And That's awesome.
Well, I'll tell you what, look, we we've only got like 15 seconds in the show left before the music starts and we're out of time.
So you have my cell number. You know, I gave it to you yesterday. We can, you can, you know, I can always come out and hang with you and some people who want to get together and do some QA. I'd be glad to do that in Boise or go out to Emmett. That's fine.
Or you can call back tomorrow and/or call back tomorrow. We'll go over Reformed theology if you want, okay? But I love it. He said you don't like it. Get a kick out of that is awesome.
Okay, Jay?
Okay, Matt. Thank you. Bye-bye. All right, God bless. Yeah, Jane and I talked yesterday.
She was a sweet. I really, really enjoyed talking to her. She's a good woman of God. We're out of time. May the Lord bless you, and by His grace, we'll be back on there tomorrow, and we'll talk to you then, everybody.
So God bless. Have a good evening. Another program powered by the Truth Network.
