Are you dealing with the problem today.
Listen to Adrian Rogers, never have any problems. You do well wonderful congratulations because you see a problem really is an opportunity in disguise and you need to learn this, that God wants you to see your problems as potentialities and that's what we're going to learn as we study together the book of Nehemiah under the general heading of how to turn your problems and possibilities welcome to love my featuring the brilliant truth of the gospel shared by pastor, teacher and author Adrian Rogers as we just heard problems are really opportunities in disguise. And if we ever need reminding of God's wonderful plans for us. We can look at the book of Nehemiah.
There are three basic steps that we need to take in order to do anything glorious in the name of Jesus. If you have your Bible handy turn to Nehemiah chapter 1 beginning in verse one as Adrian Rogers shares how to turn problems into possibilities where beginning in our series through this book. I want us to notice what I consider to be the verse that sets the tone for the book Nehemiah chapter 2 in verse 20 where look of adverse amendment go back to chapter 1 verse one and began their but I love this verse. I believe it is so applicable to us today and Nehemiah chapter 2 and verse 20 then answered them and send them by the God of heaven. He will prosper us. Therefore we service will arise and build. Don't you like that verse by God of heaven. He will prosper us. Therefore we service will arise and build our message today is entitled. This how to turn your problems into possibilities. How to turn your problems and possibilities. Anybody here ever have any problems. You do well wonderful congratulations because you see a problem really is an opportunity in disguise and you need to learn this, that God wants you to see your problems as potentialities. A Christian is not someone who sees a difficulty in every opportunity, but to the contrary, he's one sees an opportunity in every difficulty, and that's what we gotta learn as we study together the book of Nehemiah under the general heading of how to turn your problems in possibilities. Now let me give you a clue as we study the book of Nehemiah or study any book of the Bible. If you want to understand it and if you want to make the Bible come alive to you. Ask these three questions number one what did it mean then you study it in its historical setting.
What did it mean then number two.
What does it mean now because you see you have to take it from yesterday and put it into today. What is it mean now, which is not finished yet. After you asked what it meant band and what it means now asked the third question, what does it mean to me personally. Matthew will look at the Scripture that way. What it meant band what it means now and what it means to me personally in the Bible will burst of flame in your hand and it will become a very living out a very vital book to you where going to look at the book of Nehemiah.
That way, why then what it means now and what it means to us personally.
Whether we as a church are going to try to turn a problem into a potentiality call whether you as an individual are transforming your problems into potentiality we going to see that God has a wonderful plan for now. There are three steps in getting ready to do anything great and glorious in the name of Jesus. Three steps in achieving our maximum potential number one we call this to visualize to visualize.
I want you to notice here in chapter 1, the first three verses the words of Nehemiah, the son of Heights, Ohio, and it came to pass in the month of choose Lou in the 20th year as I was in Shushan the palace that had not me. One of my brethren came, he and certain men of Judah, and I asked him concerning the Jews that had escape which were left of the captivity and concerning Jerusalem and they set me the remnant that are left of the captivity.
There, in the province are in great affliction and reproach the wall of Jerusalem also is broken down and the gates thereof are burned with fire. Now Nehemiah is in Persia and he has seen certain brethren who recently met in Jerusalem and I had no television. They had no radio they had no newspapers as we know them, they had no telephones, so he's wanting some new. He said what is the city of God, like the people of God. What commission I want to know me so I can visualize it so I can see and they brought this report they went. I'm certainat all. Nehemiah you cannot believe the degradation you cannot believe the desolation you cannot believe the danger you cannot believe the poverty, the city is in disarray and burned with fire walls have crumble. The streets were filled with weeds and trash and debris, but people understood areas, but people are in poverty before and under and Nehemiah solvents are city with walls that have crumble.
Now these walls were literal walls and that David were asking a question not only what did it mean then. But what does it mean today because you see walls are also symbolical.
While Stan for protection.
Walls are symbolic of separation will speak to us of conservation well spoke of the glory of God walls in the Bible and especially the walls around the city of Jerusalem. Symbolic meaning.
They spoke of the glory of God.
They spoke of the salvation of God. They spoke of the protection of God over his people and the walls had fallen know what does this mean to us today.
Ladies and gentlemen, we too are called to rebuild some walls that are indicated and I want you to think with me for a moment about some walls today that have fallen to the ground. Some walls that are in disarray, I think, for example, about the walls of national security. We must face the grim fact that America is in danger.
Now, whether you like it or not that is true, and you may think that I am an alarmist before I'm finished but I am agree for America. I believe that America has a general trend, which is toward Sodom and Gomorrah and I believe that the wrath of God is in the eminent ground for America unless we were and get right with God.
We are losing our freedom in America by degrees every day that we live, and freedom is like health.
You must lose it. Sometimes in order for to be appreciated.
John Philpott Carranza said in 1808 that eternal vigilance is the price of liberty, but we have forgotten to be vigilant for we have forgotten God and what has been a result, you look around us. We have seen the collapse of Morrow's we have seen the disintegration of a home we have seen the highest crime rate of all time and the bloodiest century in human history. This is the harvest that we read because we have forgotten God, and what we need in America is a sweeping revival of the Christian religion I'm talking about the old-time religion that made America a great nation that she is walls are crumbling before our very eyes. You've heard this before, but they tell us that the average age of the average nation and civilization is 200 years and they tell us that nations decay on the walls of national defense fallen nine cycles. People go from Palm Beach to spiritual faith.
Number two from spiritual faith to encourage number three from courage to liberty. Number four from liberty to abundance number five from abundance to selfishness number six from selfishness to complacency number seven from complacency to apathy number eight from apathy to deep pendants and number nine from dependence back again the bondage and I believe we are somewhere right now between number seven and number nine. That's where we all handle crumble and I'm telling you, ladies and gentlemen, that it is time that some of us to place the fence had gone blind nation. I'm talking about Morrow armament and spiritual defense now.
Second, not only have national walls fallen, but domestic walls have fallen. May I tell you, ladies and gentlemen, the American home. Today is a disaster area. Walls of decency are decay. What's happening to pass the newsstand and the average corner drugstore and pornography will steer you in the face as if a broken sewer line were overflowing in the newsstand.
We have ceased to be shot in what used to amazes now just simply uses us and what was horrible yesterday is acceptable today and has become a steppingstone for something worse tomorrow if it can get worse and some of us believe that we've almost reached the bottom of the garbage pail as we laugh and make jokes about the cloning of God's holy commandment that says thou shalt not commit adultery. We have accepted pornography in America like we have accepted taxes and hot dogs, pornography does well, it doesn't make any difference if he doesn't affect our children if he doesn't affect our marriages. How can you get us to say that pornography does not affect the mind can a man go up on hot coals in his feet may not burn can a man take fire in his bosom, and be not burn down a person feel garbage and another effect is hell. They say that what the kids watch in the movies does not affect them. They say what the kids watching television has no effect it has no effect then would you tell me please sir why industry and commerce spends millions and billions of dollars in advertising is what people see has no effect on what you tell me why that people will spend hundreds of thousands of dollars for one minute of television time to tell about their product. If what they see has no effect on them and you cannot tell me that someone sitting there and watching some sex saturated show for one hour is not going to be effective if someone will pay 100,000 affected by what they see as a matter fact what we see makes us what we know is the stimuli that come into our minds and into our being. But I'm telling you that Morrow decency has decayed and that wall has fallen look if you will have the decency in our educational system.
What's happened to our educational system. Why are students running while I'll tell you why we have put in prayer out of schools. We got out of our SKUs and with that with the Bible out and with God out. Suzanne sexuality is in illicit sex is in murderous abortion is an aerial disease is in and God is out. I feel sorry for schoolteacher who stands up and tells kids.
You must do right and I say teacher what is right and where you get right from who says what his right hand says what is wrong, unless there is a God in heaven who does.
We got to get back to God. How can we morally govern anybody unless we come back tomorrow foundations. The Bible says if the foundations be destroyed, what shall the righteous do what's happening in America we have forgotten God liquor dealers by having their way. Beer is an acceptable thing we can have gospel singing in a bigger bus alarm all in our city. At the same time and seems to when we sing God bless America. Why should. Why should unless we repent. I'm saying that the walls of decency have crumble walls of doctrine have fallen. I believe with all my heart is not a lot wrong in America that could not be changed if we had a generation of preachers would stand in the pulpit and preach the say the Lord, I believe that with all of my heart. But we have many ministers preaching the gospel. I think God told him that we have many believe that the Bible is the inerrant and infallible God and many times the patient doesn't know that because they don't have the courage to stand in front of the people and say I believe this book and their dishonest and taking the seller intervals pretense to get out there covering the ground. Liberalism is a parasite it has no power to build the doesn't build orphanages and colleges and churches is a parasite that calls into institutions that have been built by Bible believers and I'm telling you that walls of doctrine and walls of theology have crumble and it is time to God's people started to rebuild and I know what you're thinking now brother Rogers, we must be tolerant certain things. We must tolerate a friend if you keep own tolerating.
Before long you will evaporate trite. Now I'm not saying we are not to love people as individuals who ever they are where they are what ever their philosophy. Whatever the creed one of the race whatever color they are to be loved for Jesus Christ loves him. I don't care who they are, but we are not to tolerate godless philosophies that are taking our country apart based on time fallen and it is time that we open our eyes and then we saw that motivated and move Nehemiah so long ago was that he was able to visualize. He saw the situation as it was now the second step. If you would change problems in the possibilities. Not only must you visualize what secondly you must agonize. You must agonize continue to look you in the Scripture we left with verse three Celeste began in verse four and it came to pass, when I heard these were that I sent down and and more on certain days and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven. What kind of prayer. Was this was a prayer of contrition.
It was a prayer when Nehemiah went salty tears over the condition as it was, was wrong with our society. Society has forgotten how to blush and the church is forgotten how to weep. No longer do we we when's the last time you spent a night in prayer, when's the last time you fasted and prayed. When's the last time you shed a tear over some soul. It was mortgage to the devil.
We pray without crying. We did without sacrifice we live without fasting. Is it any wonder that we so without reaping weeping fasting and praying seeking the face of God has become a lost art, but there is no way that America will come back to God until God's people began to pray a prayer of contrition, a prayer of brokenness. One preacher preached a sermon entitled a dry I sure and I hell bent world.
But not only was Nehemiah's prayer. Prayer of contrition. It was a prayer of confession I want you to look as he prays he says here in verse six let an outline ear be attentive and mine eyes open. Thou may steer the prayer by servant, which I pray before the now day and night for the children of Israel by servant and confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we have sinned against me both I and my father's house of sin not want you to notice the confession in this prayer, it was national and personal.
He said Israel has send and I assume night you ladies and gentlemen, we must pray for our city.
We must pray for State Farm nation and we must nationally repent. But that is no good unless we individually repent and he repented don't you sit here and weep and bow your head and model the condition unless you're willing to repent, because if you will repent you will never be a part of the solution you're part of the problem is not enough just to weep salty crocodile tears Nehemiah prayer.
Prayer contrition and a prayer. Prayer of confession, but I want to go on and noticed that he prayed a prayer.
Ladies and gentlemen of confidence. Notice in verse eight. Remember, I beseech thee, the word document is thy servant Moses, saying, if you transgress I will scatter you abroad among the nations, but if you turn on to me and keep my commandments, and do them, though there were a few cast out unto the uttermost part of the heaven yeah will I gather them from things and will bring them into the place that I've chosen to set my name there. Now these are thy servants and I people whom thou hast redeemed by thy great power, and by thy strong hand. What he's doing the same God.
Remember what you said in your word you remember those houses you made in your word.I'm holding you to your word in that great. You see, that's what real prayer areas. Nehemiah audaciously came to the father and he said father. I am praying a prayer of confidence. I'm believing you God because you promised it because you promise. Lord, I am holding you to your word all listen. We serve a great God and someone as well said prayer is not overcoming God's reluctance is laying hold of his willingness find a promise in the word of God that means is something God wants to do and then stand upon and pray big prayers thou art coming to a king's petitions with the brain's power and wealth for such thou canst not ask too much so he prays a prayer of confidence but I want you to notice also and pay attention. He also prays a prayer of commitment look in verse 11. Lord, I beseech the letter an outline ear be attentive to the prayer by servant and to the prayer of our service who desire to fear my name and prosper like crazy by servant this day and grant him mercy in the sight of this man.
For I was the king's cupbearer and here was Nehemiah Kings cupbearer and he had a job of luxury. He was so far removed from the polity and the degradation of the fallen wall was clean his little place security is all messed but he couldn't stay there and when he saw the condition of the walls. He said grace of God. I'm going to get involved and he says Lord I'm starting to do something Lord I feel a fire burning in me and I feel something for me. Roger calling me now and prosper me Lord and what I'm about to do because I'm about to get out of my warm this I'm about to get committed limitations something friend is not enough for you to pray the prayer of contrition.
The prayer of confession and the prayer of confidence unless you also willing to pray the prayer of commitment and will continue with part two of this message coming up tomorrow but right now if you have questions about who Jesus is or what he means to you.
