So Terrace blast in the Philippines how Christians respond stage for the line of fire with your host activist, author, international speaker and theologian Dr. Michael Brown your voice of moral cultural and spiritual revolution Michael Brown is the director of the coalition of conscience and president of fire school of ministry get into the line of fire now by calling 866-34-TRUTH.

That's 866-34-TRUTH here again is Dr. Michael Brown looking looking for the line of fire. This is Michael Brown has always many important things to talk about. We always wanted bring you a kingdom perspective of what's happening in the world perspective from the attitude of faith from the attitude of how we should see things as God's people is often very different than the world sees things in case in point today how Christians in the Philippines respond to a terrorist attack.

This is Michael Brown you're listening to the line of fire 866-34-TRUTH away in 866-34-TRUTH 87884 a few days ago terrorist attack Islamic terrorist attack in the city of Del Valle and that's very close to home for us here at fire when I say us to fire me and or or base here, out of which the line of fire broadcast also emanates because we have our largest missions team in the world. Spiritual sons and daughters based in the Philippines in that very city so we have on the air with us now. Eric Miller, he's been on the mission field for many years now his wife Casey and their five kids serving in Del Valle and I want you to hear from the perspective of believers in the midst of a very intense situation, how they are responding, how they are seeing this how we can pray. Hey Eric, thanks for being up in the middle of the night. Welcome to the line of fire back Dr. Brown good Buick.

Hey out what what time is it in in Philippines right now about 2 AM right now to MRIs is not even like my bedtime over the area saw this this works Eric when when you went to the Philippines. What year was that we moved to the Philippines in 2003, 2003. Alright so 13 years on the field. How many kids did you have been only moved here we had two children, two kids are suggest five kids now, and when you moved over how old was Sierra. Your your oldest Pierre was about five years old five arises. She is a full-blown teenager approaching her. 20 so that's pretty wild, yet pretty amazing that she 18 now and have grown up your novella. Alright. And in what is that meant to your kids where's their heart in terms of missions. Having grown up on the mission field. While I care have really all they've known the Philippines.

They've grown up here. They eat right, every day they pay their more Filipino than they are. American really it in his Sierra joined you on any mission strips that you been on outside the Philippines. Oh yeah, she's been to Japan several times a man even outside of our city. Occasionally, she's been on trips to the mountains to you know other church meeting gatherings in the Philippine needs niece and as far as your your team to where you live in the teams in many different locations and in some other islands as well, but at your own family.

How close are you to the.

The blast terms where you live and where it happened.

Eric only about 2 1/2 miles away, 2 1/2 miles did you hear it.

No we didn't.

God, it was about 1130 at night, but we can really hear that you did you hear the news that night. Did you wake up to the next morning. Oh yeah, I heard of that night within minutes after the bomb took place, we heard about it in the first thing of course when I saw the report do so that's that's a city that's role.

If you live in are so close to right we come back want talk to Eric about what has the reaction been how are they responding our missionaries leaving. Is this a heightened opportunity for evangelism and and what precipitated this what's going on with the Prime Minister, the Philippines and major crack a couple come back for cleansing. It's the line of fire with your host Dr. Michael Brown to the line of fire now by calling 866-34-TRUTH here again is Dr. Michael Brown back. I've got a bunch of things going on in Greeley New York the next two days.

I want to make sure that you know all the places wrong to be all the places where you can join me.

But if you have to run if you're unable to hear the announcement to give me a few minutes just go to my website, asked her to Brown AES K DR Brown.org ask Dr. Brown.org and you see on the itinerary. Pastors meet is that I'm doing a public talks church meetings list the rallies.

All of the website asked her to Brown.org. Also, while you're there, just click on our digital library and look at my latest videos is America mentioned in the Bible you will get a new video on that get another one.

How transgender activists are making parents into the enemies. So when you're at the website asked her to Brown.org just check on lease videos or click on the digital library for comprehensive list of all of our recent videos. Alright, let's get back to the Philippines with Eric Miller, one of our missionary leaders. She's been serving there since 2003 with his wife, Casey, and now their five kids, Eric, what's, what's the background to this terrorist attack what's happening with the leadership of the nation of the crackdown, and how does that tie in with the city of Del Valle well our our president. Pres. Mayor who was merited curtailed about 30 here with fear. When we moved the bow and he really cleaned up about 30. I really believe the Lord reviewed this man.

He is not a believer as far as I know, but he he he got really euthymic cleanup drugs. We don't have a drug problem in our city infective bow was one of the top they picked it up in the world per for many years and if it's really an amazing place. We had our crime rate very low.

And so he's become the president. June and in June he is really even told people ahead of time that he was going to come very strong against corruption in the Philippines, which is a large problem in the drug problem and so while he's been going after the drug issues in the Philippine third been about 1900 I stay at thirsting extrajudicial killings across the Philippine and so you know there's a lot of different opinion that people have about that if you look at the track record from the bow city that he had to influence here, the city really is quite a unique place. I don't know that I've ever been anywhere in the world where there such a low crime rate, and very little drug joy. So what then provoked the bomb blast. Well, I believe it terrorist. We have an a group called the upper thigh have to live and on an island called Polo, which is off the western coast of Mindanao and they been causing many problems over the years. Lots of kidnappings. There were two Canadian Filipino that was kidnapped. The two Canadians were beheaded. The past May or June. I believe it was and they were they've contemplate of you know been causing trouble for many many years.

So the president has really gone after them and you know with the drug issue he he cracking down on corruption.

I really believe that the terrorists and I and I believe Dave taken ownership of it already for the recent bombing this past Friday are trying to so terror in the city especially. That's where the president is from aware of the bow has grown so many different ways and trying to relate you know come against his leadership. Todd Solis is he is going after terrorists as well.

Even living in the location.

This is home city running for Jim's Prime Minister Senate President course.

So this is the way of of hitting back that Eric, you're not leaving the area from is not leaving all of our missionaries in the Philippines are leaving in fact you're going on with with life as normal. Obviously, with wisdom, but your hearts voice burn for evangelism what's happening now with this bomb blast will wear you out where the churches you're working with adding terms of a heart to win the lost. In light of this will, the day after the bomb blast that Saturday morning. We have a Saturday fire school of cultural impact. We have about 100 people from different churches and ministries to come together for training and a whole month of September was really a focus on evangelism, you know different styles of evangelism methods and ideas. We have some guests coming from prior church in Charlotte got married will be with us at the end of September but evangelism that is really been a crutch for our ministry here and so it was so awesome to me on that Saturday morning when we began to worship with the student where people just went after this and prior think we have got to go when sold. We've got to be transformation in our city were praying for terrorists to get saved in and that this is from people. Some of these people not been with the war for many years but then there are many who haven't been with the Lord that long and yet there's a burning passion on our heart for the law and if that's often the fee them. You know just so hungry to see God when they want to see revival. They wanted the an outpouring of the Spirit. They want God to move in many lives changed so in other words, the DC what darkness does and they want to see light move even more yeah absolutely and and Eric have you met with any of the families of the victims or those that were injured and survived the blast. Yeah Sunday during church service. We have one of our one of our church members. He's actually from India mimicked Jacob and he was there during the bomb blast. He would they go down to the area regularly to evangelize you with eating with a friend of his and Nancy was they usually just get up and he may start evangelizing people but instead of doing that.

The other friend asked him to just wait a few seconds before they go, and within that 15 second Windows when the bomb went off, and if they had gone in the direction where the bomb went off date they would've been injured, but that there was no injury and in God's really using this young man he so hungry to share with people how God saved them protected and and what God could do in your life you turn in the situation around for the good.

We went to the hospital on Sunday afternoon. You know, we met with one young lady whose inner 20s and had her spinal cord. Severed met with another man who had some shrapnel injury, and then with his wife.

His wife blustered sister all you know I was praying over a young man 18 years old who had some truth injuries, but looks like you'll recover but you know, just begin to pray for him and we that you know God has so much more for this young man in his life that he wants to do and we shared the gospel with him and his father and everyone in the hospital room because usually there several of people to one room and you know it, we just want to see God touch these people and restore them and give them hope Finish with them.

Amazing to be right there so redemptive. The Eric you know a lot of times in America for the parts the world you hear about terrorist attacks and they do produce terror, fear, and it paralyzes people. But the gospel response.

Yes, use wisdom, but rather be paralyzed be demobilized because these. These are times when the church needs to reach out when we have a message of life and hope. How much more is needed. At times like this. Yeah, there's no doubt we've got it for God move now or never. II think you know what persecution came against the early church in the book of acts. That's when they finally went to Samaria and in Judeo you know originally where Jesus was telling you know the early believers to go to after the Holy Ghost would come upon them, but there were such a move of God in Jerusalem that didn't seem like anybody really wanted to leave but then when persecution came. That's when the church began to grow and and and the people went out and spread the gospel spread the message of the kingdom is tremendous and then weird. We're just so blessed that all of you folks are part of the family. There's solicit friends this not to some distant location Philippines maybe never heard of Del Valle. Maybe, maybe you're not familiar with the country the Philippines.

Here you have a direct connection fire missionaries serving on the front lines grants for ministry school. Spiritual sons and daughters part of our extended family shining the light and dark places.

So pray for the missionaries there and pray for the people of the Philippines for time of awakening Eric appreciation making get some sleep now but thank you so much for joining us and sharing this good report in the midst of the challenges there. Yeah, thanks, Dr. Brown. I want to give a shout out. My buddy got Scott everybody's best friend. I love you man man I file the line of fire with your host Dr. Michael Brown get into the minor fire now by calling 866-34-TRUTH dear again is Dr. Michael Brown, the Bible is written for us wasn't written to us was written in another language to another culture. With all the cultural assumptions that went along with that because when we take our Western modern culture and impose it on the text word putting in meaning that wasn't there and were missing the meaning that the text has all right this is Michael Brown and in my hand I am holding the NIV cultural background study Bible, and last night, among other chapters read I read through the book of Amos by the way there's a passage you're wondering about and want cultural historical background to give me a call 866-34-TRUTH 8663 for 87884 but I am read through Amos last night and didn't have the cultural background study Bible with me. It's it's here at the office at our studio that my home that I was reaching for it. I was looking for it because I want to see with the comments on this passage in that passage and and really there's no way to fully understand the book of Amos without really understanding the cultural background. It's just taken for granted and in verse after verse after verse sold.

I'm looking here and a map with a full-page article and map Amos's judgments against foreign nations. When you look on the map you understand the the dynamic of what happens.

It's almost as if the prophet draws a giant acts over the nation of Israel and then then begins to focus on Israel itself.

It's, it's fascinating, I'm just turning the page here and place names we've got tons on place names or what about the constant issue of oppression of the poor oppression of the poor. There is so old that of page and 1/2 article with picture on economic changes and social classes. In eighth century BC, Israel is not about that.

The profits of the term the sovereign Lord, the administration of justice. These are always with pictures and things like that in massive amount of notes for the text of just this one encourage you to take advantage of this offer. We've extended it from last week.

His response was so terrific, so go to the website asked her to Brown.org Cascade your Brown.org and when you're there when you're there you'll see it right on the homepage or special resource offer all right. I wanted my schedule for New York in a moment when you give that schedule in a moment. But let me come back to theme of talked about a lot in recent weeks that of multigenerational thinking that of having an impact that last beyond your lifetime. My desire is to see Jesus return in my lifetime is not your desire. My desire is to see him come and establish his kingdom on this earth to put an end to human suffering. To put an end to human rebellion to fully establish his kingdom on the earth and to rule and reign forever and ever.

And above all, so we can be with him. That's the thing.

Most of all, we can be with him be with our father forever and ever and ever. That's that's my passionate desire and and I still think in terms of running hard for filling the commission is given me which will culminate in the salvation of Israel and the glory of God filling the nations and in the midst of darkness and Satanic activity God's kingdom triumphing so that's what I long to see but obviously everyone that's long to see that up until now, beginning with the first generation never seen it. They've all died and gone to be with the Lord before his return and in so I often think about okay if I don't get to finish the task.

What can I do to help the next generation finish the task with the generation after that finish the test or how have I been helped by people with previous generations. What can I do to be a help to the coming generations.

What legacy can I leave when you think like that you don't get so discouraged about a given election or negative court ruling or or the latest bad news because your thinking longer term and we know ultimately that God's kingdom will triumph. Do we not.

We know that ultimately, regardless of if this world collapses that ultimately Jesus will return and his kingdom will be established forever in the ways of righteousness will continue forever and ever. Billions and trillions in endless years, the kingdom of God will triumph and we will be part of that so we weave. We think more in those terms, and embrace that mentality more. We think in a multigenerational way so make sense to sometimes we have this moment by moment hit the panic button mentality is supposed to live with urgency, but live with long-term faith and expectation live as if today was your only day plan as if you had 100 years to live in you and you bring the two in together all right. Everybody listening to me in greater New York boy. We have been planning this trip for some time. We got some very gracious hosts. Find out more at the website asked Dr. Brown the legacy of life on our itinerary wait count the days it's the light a fire with your host activist, author, international speaker and theologian Dr. Michael Brown voice of more cultural and spiritual revolution get into the line of fire now by calling 6643 here again is Dr. Michael Brown. Looking back on the fire. 866788 is the number to call. I want to play a clip for you and then want to get into some social cultural issues, but will play clip for you from my interview with Prof. Craig Keener about the IV cultural background study Bible case you missed it were talking about the gospel of Matthew. So Joey gripped clip number nine. This is some extended interaction that we had and I want you to hear this as we talk about the gospel of Matthew and cultural background to the Bible and remember one of the first things were, the light went on will you you got the cultural background you'd read it takes a certain way that is all that's what it means you are one of those within Matthew 1818 about the binding and loosing yeah you know I was always prayer you know binding the devil and loosing things and and and then when I read it in context and realized what was really talking about and then I got the background and it reinforced though this is what it's really talking about.

I was upset it will you know it works.

When I pray that waste going to keep doing it to work anymore because I knew better, but the Lord answered prayers in Jesus name. But anyway, but but that passage was one of the ones with the light really went on and if you can explain it in brief what what you do understand to mean sure I'm in the context of 18 verses 15 through 20. It's talking about church discipline or congregational discipline, and that the language of binding and loosing was very familiar into a circle for like the legislative authority of the rabbis, but also report if we take it literally binding like kind nobody up letting them know imprisonment if it has to do with the judicial authority of the assembly to fear K will follow the procedures this person is not repentant and therefore just a jump jump in there. I'm not sure what happened with her audio clip.

I will need to check something isn't isn't isn't playing much but it was just coming up badly of yes so so again again when we go back to the word and put it in its cultural context hits historical context we now better understand it so that we can now make application from the Bible to where we live today. If you realize that a certain text was dealing with an aspect of economic oppression in the ancient world and in and you understand the background to it. Now you can more readily apply that text to economic oppression today. If you see that there was a particular issue that Israel was facing in the ancient world that dealt with unique challenges and those unique challenges are things we are facing today. It's much easier to then take that text and apply and and that's that's my big thing knowledge. For knowledge, sake is not the goal.

While I never knew that that's amazing. While whoever heard of that. A fascinating, great, and if it gives you greater interest instead of the workers are more fascinated great, but the goal is practicality. The goal is practical application. Understanding what God's word was saying to a given audience enables us enables us then to make application to contemporary situations today and sometimes as the word has come alive for me in its cultural context. As I learned the background more I sit that's how I can apply it to situations today invite him to give you a fascinating example in the book of Zephaniah and you'll be amazed how it speaks to preachers and leaders today and by the Expo line of fire with your host Dr. Michael Brown voice of more cultural and spiritual revolution.

Here again is Dr. Michael Brown way by the way yesterday.

The first hour is Labor Day so we were live on Labor Day and and I offered you shows like that on holiday days if I don't need to take a day for myself that I love you and live radio and it gives many listeners an opportunity to call that would normally have the opportunity because they're there working. So we we often hear from folks we don't really hear from but somehow almost all the calls in first hour yesterday ended up being about Black Hebrew Israelites, police and theology, and that the original Israelites were black and are black.

Today, etc. so it was an interesting discussion as much of it was very civil and respectful of some seem to to not really have the ability to to interact fruitfully, but for the most when I'm on that attribute that to that happens within any number of callers any groups you have people that are more respectful of the less respect for those that are willing to listen. Those that just want to talk such a habit any anybody get enough calls, but for the most part I find it to be very constructive interaction discussion. I know there many different groups that are out there that are quote Hebrew Israelites were talking about black Americans that I identify as being original Israelites and claim that Moses would've been black and that the Israelites were black and that Jesus was black, etc. there are some who hold to a more orthodox gospel of salvation and yet have these other peripheral beliefs. There are others who says there is no salvation for the white man.

There are others who have other other bizarre bizarre leafs so so it was, the more that I speak with the more the more I understand where different groups are coming from because there's so many that are out there, but that gets us back against cultural backgrounds, doesn't it, that gets us back to okay what does the Bible say what really matters in Canada.

Larger theology be upheld by Scripture, and where are the errors historically, archaeologically, anthropologically, linguistically, where are the errors so want to give you this example right it is. It is from the book of Zephaniah and there is somewhat a somewhat obscure reference that God is going to judge the priests who leave over the threshold.

Think what what is that me early on, God says, for example, verse four, I will stretch out my hand against Judah against overly intrusive. I will destroy every remnant of Baal worship in this place. The renames of the idolatrous priests.

Those who bow down on the roost to worship the story. Host those who bow down swear by the Lord will Cicero by molar. Those who turn back from following the Lord need to seek the Lord require of him. So there it does mention overtly the idolatrous priests.

Verse eight on the day of the Lord sacrifice. I will punish the officials and the king's sons and almost clad in fine clothes on that day I will punish all who avoid stepping on the threshold, who filled the temple of their gods with violence and deceit so what is was that mean those who avoid stepping on the threshold.

While the footnote here in the cultural background study promises this this judgment appears to be related to the Philistine custom in first Samuel 55 concerning priests of doggone who did not quote step on the threshold, probably representing a belief unacceptable Israel.

The evil spirits congregated near the doorway, stepping on the door still allow them access. Many religious structures in Syria aided added a raised platform that elevated this protected the object of worship from its surroundings.

However, the Assyrians and others in the spirit, more commonly buried holy objects such as a Patrick pack figurines under the threshold of houses, hoping hopefully to prevent the entry of evil spirits.

Mobile was not allowed to step on the threshold as it was considered sacrilegious and dangerous. Either of these possibilities as possible so there is something in the culture.

There is something in the background where pagans did not want to step on the threshold of the door leading to a temple or a house under which these idle statues were buried. So if we go back to first simulate out you say what is got to contemporary preachers, I don't get that off okay will first Samuel eight. Excuse me for Samuel five there is judgment on the Philistine deity doggone right seat you remember what happens right. You remember that the ark of the Lord is carried into doggone's temple and when the people of Ashdod Roseville the next day there was doggone falling on his face on the ground for the ark of the Lord. So they took and put them back in his place, but the following morning when he rose there was struggle fallen on his face on the ground before the ark of the Lord his head and hands been broken off and relying on the threshold of his body remained. That is why to this day the did the priests of doggone there any others who enter Douglas template awestruck step on the threshold so what's what's it say what happened well what happened was that the this deity this false deity this idol represented by this statute is is defeated by Yahweh, the God of Israel, so he's just the statue. He's not a God at all, and there part of his remains laying on the threshold of the temple because of which and in an ancient religious superstition.

The priests of doggone would no longer step on the threshold they would they would avoid it.

You have ever seen is the old superstition in baseball that you never step on one of the lines on the field when you walk in and you'll actually see it. To this day, managers players as their walking their normal stride would cause him to step on it, but they'll take like a small step or larger step to step over it. Okay silly superstition.

What you had, you had you Dan priests. Are you getting this you had Judaism priests who were now practicing with the pagans did either directly borrowing what the pagan priest. It was doggone or for other reasons in the ancient near East some type of of spiritual superstition that they wouldn't step on the threshold.

That's what the pagans did without the Israelites were were copying it. The Israelites did you dance they were doing the exact same thing as the pagan priest did and if it does go back to the Doug on temple among the Philistines that would mean that that Yahweh's defeat of this false deity, always exposing him as an idol, then led to a custom where they borrowed what the pagan priest did alright so you said I still get it. What's the point.

The point is that we do that to this day in the church we see what is trending in the world.

We see what is happening in the world wheat we see that the mindset the mentality of the world and we think we have to borrow that if we don't borrow that, then we won't get people to come in and somehow with this idea.

This is how will you win the world impact the world. We become like the world that that would be like sinking that way.

That will get to help people get in shape is to get out of shape as they are the way that we are going to help alcoholics is to become alcoholics ourselves.

The way that we are going to be most effective in reaching the lost is by becoming lost ourselves. It is absolute spiritual folly and ministry suicide. In terms of having an effective impact is one thing to empathize with the lost is wanting to reach out to the lost is one thing to be with the lost, it is one thing to have cultural sensitivity. So, if you live in a certain area and an the way you conduct yourself is completely offensive to the people and has nothing to do with the gospel. When you avoid cultural offense, we can avoid the guilt become like the world will be sinful to win the world and yet get their pastors to think in less they know what's happening on TV and less there conversant with the game of thrones in less there conversant with with the, the latest sexually explicit violent series and in and less they can quote from this trending movie with this profane perverted plot this they can do that that they won't quote be relevant and therefore will be effective. That's nonsense that is complete spiritual garbage. First, you gotta defile yourself by taking in things that are unclean, then you've gotta tell your congregation hey I watch these things you want to also. Or there's nothing wrong with doing it and then you're somehow thinking that the power of your message is that you're conversant with with with the latest sex scandal. All MobileMe knowing about what's happening in the news you're conversant with with the latest perverted theme on some show watching something worth incest is celebrated and now you can be effective knowing of the effect was preaching repentance we don't preach repentance. You'll be entertained by the trash anymore. Oh, I don't mean that you can't know what's happening in the world but you don't partake of the sin of the world to win the world. That's what will destroy you. In the process rather than help the world with me like that.

The line of fire with your host Dr. Michael Brown get into the line of fire now by calling 8663 here again is Dr. Michael Brown to much for joining us on the broadcast. The number to call so I I did a poll on Twitter. I did a poll on Twitter and when you're doing a poll there you only have a certain amount of space to write your limited 240 characters in your overall tweet, then you are you are limited with how many choices you can give a four choices total and then your limited with how long the choices can DCF to figure out how to phrase them correctly so I'm out when I do a Twitter poll, I fully understand that it is not a cross-section of America. It is simply those that respond on twitter so for example, demographically. I have a lot more male followers on twitter than female Facebook. It's a little higher female than male again why that is. Don't know and I love the demographics are in our YouTube channel or or Instagram account but I do know on on twitter.

When I asked that it was overwhelmingly male as opposed female with a set of Facebook's little higher female compared to male and I would say demographically in terms of percentages of African-Americans follow me on Twitter that would work out pretty much to the this national percentage of African-Americans in our country that seem to be representative in that regard. But again, that would mean if I ask a question I get 100 votes regular a thousand votes or respects his new responses to my question then say African-Americans might make up about 13% of those responses or mails as opposed to females who make up the majority of those responses or say people between 25 and 44 would be far more represented than those 18 to 24 or 44 to 64 dissenters were demographics of I'm not this a scientific poll okay it's asking a question, getting feedback from my my twitter family and even though we only have 20 the 22 1/2 thousand twitter followers as opposed to about 415,000 Facebook followers in three easy to do a Twitter poll. Hence, we often do them so I asked what is the single greatest threat to African-Americans today know know why did I ask that I'll tell you one animal I gave four choices now, you could given three choices you could give 30 choices is completely subjective in terms of of what you can come up with but my limit was for so which for which would we put in this not the city.

The best list, but I did it for reason is all explained so I I gave four choices. What is a single greatest threat to African-Americans today. Number one the welfare system number two police brutality number three break out of the family number for systemic racism with the single greatest threat to African-Americans today. So what you think. How would you answer the need to call how US it is as African-Americans, white American, Hispanic American, Native American, Asian American, how would you answer that was the greatest single greatest threat to African-Americans today welfare system. Please recalibrate out of the family systemic races with the finances of the 80% respondents a breakdown of the family breakdown. The family 10% to the welfare system, 8% said systemic racism 2% said police brutality now.

My goal in asking the question was not so much to ascertain okay what is the single greatest threat to African-Americans today. How can we determine that sociologically, anthropologically, spiritually and culturally.

How can we determine that what what service can we look at what the guiding principles can we look at just a Twitter poll rhyme asking people their opinion, but it does indicate what people perceive to be the issues right and notice with constant talk about police brutality with with Colin Protested with the president, even weighing in and say hey look better that people talk about these issues and not talk about the I agree, but I believe that the greatest emphasis is being put on the wrong things.

The greatest emphasis is being put on on the wrong issues. By all means, by all means let's talk about racial injustice and other forms of injustice, where they exist in America by all means let us expose blind spots that we each have, by all means, as followers of Jesus, may we advocate for righteousness with her it pertains to her own ethnicity or skin color. Let us advocate for righteousness. By all means, but let us put the emphasis in the right place. Look, if you were hospitalized with cancer and it was a treatable form of cancer and and also you had yet a touch of of tennis elbow in your in your right elbow from playing tennis a lot.

You develop some tennis elbow with with the hospital. Have you primarily doing therapy to to get your tennis elbow in good shape, or would they be treating the cancer to be treating the cancer so my concern remains the same, that the emphasis often gets put on the wrong issue. I think you could make a large a much larger case for disparate sentences in court disparate court sentences black Americans versus white Americans or others, and you can draw more attention to that that the police brutality and again where there is police brutality needs to be addressed, but it is not primarily a white on black thing it does exist. At times policemen do their best but their human beings and their some bad apples in there some that are good apples but they react wrongly in a given situation. And yes, these things need to be dealt with fairly and righteously, but is not primarily a white on black issue that is the big issue for African-Americans today.

So what is me the right to say it. The facts the facts and interacting with African-Americans for years around America both those calling and leader friends, etc. so were we can address issues we need to we must, but let's address the right issues. This put the emphasis in the right place, and again based on this polling data even African-Americans if they responded equally to others and maybe responded a high percentage they are not saying that this motel is the biggest they would be agreeing by enlargement, because otherwise if their sentences largest thing and that number would be eight or 10 or 12 or 13%, or maybe even higher if they responded in large number so let us together constructively were adaptively address the largest problems that that are African-American brothers and sisters are facing. Let us have understanding that is have empathy where there is pain and yes a YouTube video is going to draw more attention than than lots of day by day situations in the home, but let us major on the majors and work together to bring help and relief where it's needed and to find out what we can do to rebuild that which has been broken down because we know ultimately the one behind that is the devil himself, friends, remember, if you live in the greater New York area. Be sure to join me.

I'm going to be in Queens. I'm gonna be in Brooklyn going to be in the Bronx going to be a long island Manhattan gobbling many different venues. Many different settings going as many as you can. Can't wait to see you face-to-face my bottom line today as we sort out the problems that surround us. Let us not be driven by the media not so easy to get caught up in partisan politics, we can actually lose the spirit of Christ in the process is time for the line of fire with your host activist and author, international speaker and theologian Dr. Michael Brown your voice of moral cultural and spiritual revolution Michael Brown is the director of the coalition of conscience and president of fire school of ministry get into the line of fire now by calling 866-34-TRUTH. That's 866-34-TRUTH here again is Dr. Michael Brown. Are you a conservative first and foremost or a follower of Jesus first and foremost, are you a Republican or Democrat.

First and foremost, were you a follower of Jesus first and foremost, are you an American patriot first and foremost or are you a follower of Jesus first and foremost, sometimes there's a conflict in our allegiances as devotion to Jesus is in first it's gonna confuse a lot of the things we say and do.

This is Michael Brown. Welcome to the line of fire will get you thinking in a moment. Write out a written article chatted about these things little bit over a week ago, but when it come back to them. But first let me grab some excerpts of a terrific interview I had last week with Prof. Craig Keener as we are talking about cultural backgrounds to the Bible and hear the book of Romans, click number seven will start their, I just had a question about how I'm in Alamogordo bridging the cultural gap between Romans 911 two somebody who isn't outdoor Delaware obviously not 11 focus on Gentile and Israelite relationship how to how we bring back to life and contact such as how today I think it's an excellent question, and it's actually one of you for further Jewish Gentile question in Romans. If this prevents the filter through during the surface when I actually was getting ordained in an African-American church and it became a burning issue. My life in terms of ethnic reconciliation beyond that. That was when I first began to see how the principles apply because in the beyond Jewish Gentile in that gift. If God would surmount the barrier that he himself established in history. How much more would he invited to surmount every other barrier been established by especially human sinfulness and so you just think like in Romans would be good to Romans just think that the theme of the Jewish Gentile issue over all the way through me. Romans one. Gentile is lost.

Romans chapter 2 Jewish people walked to Romans 73 everybody lost but in Romans four he talks about being children of Abraham through faith and in in Romans five, in case anybody wants to say well I'm definitive Abraham. Paul reminds us that were all defended from out of and then like in Romans seven I talked about how the law can inform us of right and wrong, but it doesn't transform us by by itself. Yeah, and great insights from click here that's that's just a little snippet of the fascinating to our interview that we had done cultural backgrounds to the Bible remember extending our special offer from last week. You can such a great response when you order the NIV cultural background study Bible from us. Not only will you be helping us with this radio broadcast will be paying the postage on the Bible and then giving you free on CD to listen to on your computer or your MP3 player to our interview with Craig Keener digging into these very kinds of issues, always with the goal to practical application today. All right, we come back. I want to ask are you a conservative Christian capital conservative small Christian or are you a conservative Christian capital Christian small conservative where is your primary emphasis point of identification what shapes your mindset. What fuels your attitudes, you know you might be challenged when I discussed physicians would come back thinking of the line of fire with your host Dr. Michael Brown voice of moral cultural and spiritual revolution. Here again is Dr. Michael Brown before high did you hear about the American the Maryland school district that that's it.

Don't tell parents if if transgender males bunk with the daughters until the parents if if there's a guy 17 years old, identifies his girl babies been identified that we just read in the school year and he's going to go on a camping outing with the 17-year-old girls and they're going to bunk together. Don't tell the parents that the question later. Five adult tell the parents of a video addressing the social madness as well as videos on questions like is is America in the Bible is Jerusalem. Babylon the great, and the number of other articles to challenging speech include the one I want to talk about now to conservative Christians have the love of Christ for Obama and Hillary to watch that video about Maryland school district and and the latest in transgender activism were parents become the enemies of to read the articles.

Grandma website. The line of fire.org the line of fire.org go there. You can also find out about the special resource off with the cultural study Bible give a question for you want to interact on any of these points give you call 866-34-TRUTH. That's 866-34-TRUTH 87884 okay, I have noticed something for many years now and it has always disturbed me and I have had it on my heart to address and finally, last night was able to articulate it and write it in an article and I didn't know if it would get as much attention as her mother articles.

I didn't know how viral it would get but I'm writing an article not so little viral, but to get a message out. I have a burden on my heart. I want to communicate and to the extent others resonate with it though, share it and they'll help get the message out. Sometimes it's less popular and I wonder if it's because it's convicting so here's my question. Do we have a Christlike attitude towards political leaders, and others who we strongly differ with you. See what I mean by Christlike attitude.

Okay, let's say your son was elected President of the United States. Your 65. He's 43 and is elected now a young president of the United States, but for 20 years now you have passionately disagree with his politics.

He is ultraliberal.

You are strongly conservative. He is a committed Democrat your committed Republicans all right just to give you that scenario so he's now elected. On the one hand you're proud that your son may now many parents get to have a child in the White House right that's exceptional that's extraordinary. That's one and multiplied hundreds of millions with its gonna happen but you grieve over his politics. You you you grieve over the stances he takes in that sense you're ashamed of what he is doing, but also proud which you tweet out abusive things mocking him would you send out pictures where he looked bad in and say what a jerk we have in the Y has no know why because it's your son. However, if the media interviewed you say yeah we said we completely disagree with his policies is our son. We love them. We have meals together when we can. Your special times he's treated to CS but there we disagree, we disagree passionately for many years now, you say that that you say it in a certain way and would you be praying for him. Of course, should be praying for his rude protection but should also be praying for God to get hold of his life in a deeper way and forgot to open his heart to righteousness and things like that.

Correct. So what is our attitude when it comes to the President of the United States when it comes to Hillary Clinton the Democratic candidate for the president of the United States is one of sinful scoring is it one that takes the light and their problems isn't one that mocks them as human beings as opposed to one that says I wholeheartedly differ with many of their policies. I believe they've hurt America as I start my article essay along with many other conservatives. I believe Barack Obama's been one of the worst presidents and dread the thought of a Hillary Clinton presidency. I believe both of them have damaged our country in significant ways and I steadfastly opposed some of their most cherished policies God's that does not give me permission to harbor a visceral hatred for them God for bid. There is a difference.

There is a difference between an attitude that despises a candidate stand on a certain issue but said there was a proslavery candidate, 170 years ago would Apsley despise their stand on slavery and and human trafficking selling people into lifetime servitude, we would despise that and we would stand against them and we would oppose them as candidates and we would do our best to expose whatever they're doing.

That is wrong and harmful and destructive. Absolutely. But the board we scorned them as human beings would would we just pray imprecatory prayer is God destroy them would be praying nothing redemptive when we have no broken heart for their souls wanting them to know the Lord and walk with the Lord this in the spirit of Jesus goes against the spirit of the age. The spirit of Jesus goes against that the spirit of the world of the way that we we differ. It is going to look and feel different now.

I I have it in my article that some of you say yeah. Well, Jesus called Harry Fox so you know I will use the Rush Limbaugh epithet and I'm I'm going to call Bill Clinton slick Willie yeah and and and I'll get a call Hillary Clinton this I'm going to call Harry Reid that call Nancy Pelosi this is Jesus called Harry Fox it's in my article my responses that people use conveniently forget that there are far closer to the character Bill Clinton and they are to the character of Jesus.

Yeah, sorry to say that but it's true we so self righteously attack others. So here is give an example example of some it's wrong and ugly memo and Rev. Jerry followed eyes.

Christopher Hitchens went after him. He aggressively spoke against the day he died Chris Richards on CNN blasting your careful's human being posting this article, salon.com, where he referenced very false carcass.

That's a refute that referred to his his body was found in a study he referenced his carcass and he said quote. Like many fanatical preachers fall was especially disgusting and exuding an almost sexist personality. While railing from dawn to dusk about the sex lives of others and he said the evil that he did with after him in the end of his article by stating it's a shame that there is no hell for Falwell to go to and then few words after disgusting.

It's one thing to passionately differ with rev and false beliefs or actions and and and to take issue with that and then even after his death to say I still believe he did more harm than good.

If that's what Hitchens felt, but to go after him the way he did. We fear that was SSS wrong but are we much better than Christopher Hitchens. In that respect. So yesterday big news philosophically conservative icon. 92 years old. She dies she was to be with the Lord yesterday. So within hours. She's getting blasted by various hostile voices on twitter and Breitbart.com put a few of them together at tweets like these first from a fellows now with Rolling Stone on the one hand, it's a shame for the Schlafly die, but on the other hand, it's always heartwarming when Satan calls one of his own home. This is within hours of her death, and from a gal named Julie with over hundred thousand twitter followers. God never takes Gene Wilder without relieving us of the filler Schlafly with reference to actor, comedian Gene Wilder who also died recently and then another.

I gal Katie on the Katie speak show host B. Shall we absolutely get to celebrate the passing of someone who work for 70 years to reinforce oppressive violent systems in this country we celebrate their death is civil. We are not doing that will hang on hang on what when you see the latest video Hillary Clinton coughing you, get a kick out of that. Send that out to your friends all check that out every like a baby shorter be able to talk at all.

Ha ha ha.

As opposed to okay I don't want her to do well in her campaign. I don't stand against her oppose her in so many ways.

I believe she's done many wrong things and stands for wicked causes this lot of corruption. There I believe all that it should be expose but I'm not glorying in her coughing or poignantly a pantsuit who put that on her.

That's pathetic.

No hay. She deserves and she's wicked that this is not the spirit of crisis, not a righteous attitude yes expose the strongest stand against what's wrong. Absolutely. Pray for the person's salvation will and desire see them come to repentance.

That's priceless that I care on the line of fire with your host Dr. Michael Brown. Your voice is more cultural and spiritual revolution. Here again is Dr. Michael Brown joining us on the line of fire is taken of the moment.

What I was talking in terms of what what our attitude should be the midst of our differences with political leaders.

There are columnists there are TV hosts.

There are radio hosts who have become especially famous because of let's say the rough edges what they're willing to say about others the way they will mock others the way they will know some depending on how far they can go with how their broadcasting the profane ways they can talk about others and Esther selling point. I remember listening to radio host in New York decades ago when out of it what it was awful long time. Many many many many years and I remember I used to listen specifically to listen for when he would lose his temper, yet not the nicest thing, but that's kinda what he was famous for some caller would get him upset and he would lose his temper and bail on that person and it just like his.

If you pictures face getting granted any rep the person a shreds and that's what you listen for. Ultimately, he had to tone down his approach, but that that's not something that a godly person can do.

All I I will correct error and some has to be reviewed.

I've rebuked it of rebuke people on the air, the one pastor saying that we should be rejoicing when Geiser murdered the government you just line them off and slaughter them all the rebuke and for saying that while I stand against homosexual practice and sending its goals with gay activism order sought also do a soft news all Jesus overturned the tables of money changed the correct yet so I speak out against merchandising things of the gospel and and that's on ever with me when we have resource offers through a ministry, we do our best to to be blessings to everyone what we do and be righteous in what we do and not personal and not merchandise the gospel get rich off it, or take advantage of it to hurt other Shirt we would live by the principal but are you telling me that because Jesus overturned the tables of the money changers that we see something wrong. We should just file. Drunken bar should be going there and start kicking the drinks out of their hands.

The people going to strip clubs should be tackle them on the way in and say that's immoral should be have have the ladies attacking the strippers when they leave the place. I'm obviously not icing, not as in the do with being strong has to do with being righteous has to do with being Christlike so I know I'm quite aware that I can get more readers and thankfully we've got great readers articles good great circulation on a good number of websites they have. They have a been the most read because you're such faithful readers and and forward bite my my articles to others and things like that.

So of I'm blessed with the readership we have, but I know it's in conservative circles on TV, radio, I could I could get the message out more if I was more outrageous in the way I presented. If I was more nasty if I was more condescending if I was just a little bit vulgar in tone.

If I was a little bit more off-color and hey I'm not judging a worldly person does that, I'm not judging a job. A nonbeliever does that they do monopoly was an and that fine whatever this is part of who they are but I am say when it comes to us as believers when we are now intersecting with worldly issues when we are now intersecting with with cultural issues.

We were not going to do with the way the world and culture does it were not at an end where it were not going to grow and expand. At other people's expense. Here, have you watch my video yet on transgender activists make parents into enemies. Have you have you watch that go there, go to the line of fire.org the modify.org and you'll see it right there on the homepage latest videos you see it soon as you open the page. In fact, if you have them visit our new radio website.

Please go it. It is wonderful.

It is beautiful.

It is so helpful so nicely laid out.

It is a night and day improvement from from old Regulus can compare the bigger the night and day comparison, but listen to how I address this issue.

I know me on some perfect guy doing I'm saying. Contrast that with just something else that's going to bash and pervert the mind as if others don't even deserve the land for because there are these problems or issues we must conduct ourselves in a way that glorifies the Lord in the midst of deep and pro profound differences so from the depths of my heart. I oppose Pres. Obama's abortion policies and Hillary Clinton's abortion policies. II deeply oppose their LGBT activism not there.

Their desire to treat everyone fairly not there desire that every American has equal rights under the lie from those things. I differ with LGBT activists passionately, passionately, but Barack Obama is my president. Yeah, he is widened both from God and vote from either but since when is it only the president when you vote for them. George Bush was my president Ronald Reagan on the mod print all liberal say the same thing is just immature and silly. He is our president and we pray for him as our president and I will speak about him or to him that that have had a face-to-face, but if I've written and a letter to him with respect as the president and with Hillary Clinton. I despise stances that she's taken. I despise the pressure she's put on other nations to conform to radical activism here in America.

I despise that I rejected the core of my being. I believe she's doing many things that are wrong, and from what we can tell, with Clinton foundation money with email service can sit email server scandals this a real corruption. There and it should be exposed. Yes, absolutely. But if she gets elected for presence of a hope that doesn't happen, but if she gets elected for president. She's really my president and I'll pray for her. Accordingly, and II won't just take the liberty of all, just she's like the wicked witch of the West Sorry, I'd like tell you the wicked witch only use that no you don't do that for president you call a person to repent. If you are a prophet nation Israel. You might be sent with a particular word in a particular way. You might pay for with your life because you're confronting the king there is a posture that were to take place without first Timothy the second chapter you remember, you come up with like Nero madman like that and Paul still says this is this is the stance he says this first Timothy to first of all the nerds that supplications, prayers, intercessions the thanksgivings be made for all people for kings like Nero, Caesar, and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good and is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior desires all people be safe to come to the knowledge of the truth in any says in Titus three not to slander anyone wanting to review for righteousness but not slander. In one room, remembering that we to work once foolish, disobedient letter straight slaves. Except it's the line of fire with your host activist, author, international speaker, and Dr. Michael Brown voice of more cultural and spiritual revolution get into the line of fire now by calling 6634 through here again is Dr. Michael Brown welcome a line of fire. This is Michael Brown your joyful host last to be alive at this time in world history.

We can be shining lights in dark places America's messed up, which means this is the church is great opportunity to shine a few minutes I'm going to bring on Johnson Iraq.

He is one of the regular contributors to the stream and we got some fascinating things to talk about but I've got a brand-new article up to conservative Christians have Christ's love for Obama and Hillary you could read it by going to the line of fire.org and it is the lead new article that's been posted straight to the phones in Gaithersburg, Maryland Joshua walking to the line of fire.

Hello, Raven merely yes okay, I want to go over the Baker talk about the presidential dislikes of Christian and how we should be yeah okay I can't speak of the Gentile because another light being in all day in America which is moderately busy like slavery. My people were not really the partaking boating and things like that on the political aspect of the Gentile. So or not to involve ourselves in any aspect of their other lives that are like in crisis. I walked in urban Jerusalem. You know, the Roman occupied that led and they were voting for Gerard people or either be like that for Himself, separated even in this aspect right now America about America policy debate like that Christians by the euro converted Gentile weather you're not reported light on this will make government and are seldom think of that nature.

Joshua, let me just ask you questions should we pray for our elected officials and scriptures. The pray for the king. Then there are people that are in the provision that we have people on earth right right correct and we should pray for their salvation right that we pray for the salvation all right, but know the way but Vincent so just let me just clarify this. I absolutely agree that that this is not our eternal home and that were citizens of another kingdom living here in this world, but let's say you pray for the president and the president gets saved based on what you're saying to the president then resigned from being president because now there saved the president all way out of the department. Whatever they are like that she Joshua the Lord and Savior walking in the polar walk in the law. All they would probably they shouldn't revive and I think Todd running the light of yeah contacted okay so then why shouldn't a Christian is ready, a Christian who are some who generally knows the Lord and is following Jesus. Yeshua, why shouldn't that person run for office.

Why just pray for a lost person is in office. Why shouldn't the safe person a true believer make a difference part by running for office in one yeah, how does that apply all your religion on the problem got a problem with the public from helping out. Yeah, it's visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world you that's that's out you know that all might be part of the world as far as my despise people bow down to the god of this age. Second Corinthians 4. First John five understand that but being keep Melissa from being unstained by the world, Jacob James 127 is actually time of the sin of the world.

For in this world but not of it. Let us shine the light ever.

We can hey I got a break they want. Continue this conversation another day for the Expo line of fire with your host Dr. Michael Brown into the line of fire now by calling 866-34-TRUTH here again is Dr. Michael Brown, though there are, I loved interact with those who are Christian thinkers and who are looking at what's happening in the world and giving us Christian responses to those one of them is a colleague Johnson Iraq and John writes regularly for the stream stream.org and John your errata mission of mercy right now aren't you.

Where are you as we speak. I am at my dog oncologist 15-year-old beagle named Susie and she had amassed shelter Margie to fit your radiation and now she got her second round of therapy seriously.

There a dog oncologist. Well let's ask Samantha hey hey that's that's compassion for an animal right. That's the thing about 1100 you enjoy when they're young you have to take care of them when they're all that good practice for human yeah yeah and in fact that's right now my mom is nearly 94 and got but yeah and she's she's been in the hospital and just seeing her every day and yet this is the time I consciously thank God for the opportunity to care for her when she so needed now so yeah I'll organize your thinking. This writer yeah if we can do, or for for dog a thousand times more for for our our family.

Hey, so if you like barking in the background so we just keep talking everything's okay I'm outside right got it. Got it.

John, I actually quote a conversation we had in a book I just finished set up yet about a year from now where I talk about it. It's on the theme of saving a sick America and I talk about how negative things can look right now how bad they can look that I referred to the conversation we had about communism how your Yale profs just thought communism is the way of the future, etc. no one dreamed that we compression on the way it did, or the players that were used so light. I appreciate your insights on that what your mindset now what your mindset in terms of where things are out in the nation and the political campaigns or frame of mind. While I'm concerned that the churches are being swept by the wave of the culture. I think you know, often Christian year rightly being like the Pharisees in the New Testament, but there is something you can be, that's worse than a Pharisee you can be one of the strategy Sadducees were basically the theological liberals of their day. They worked hand in glove with the Roman they did not believe in an afterlife.

They rejected large parts of divine revelation. The later books of the Torah. There were a lot like name some of the mainline Protestant churches, and from the Catholic Bishop in America, but seemed eager to go along in order to get along with the secular power that is in place in the secular power in America and in Europe is increasingly anti-Christian, anti-God. Secular utilitarianism which Steve life has no purpose but have no point there is no afterlife were just mistakes of evolution so the only ethical thing to do is to make people as happy as possible until you have to put them to sleep like animal we call utilitarian hedonism and basically the most greatest number of happy moments for the greatest number of voters to boil down to soak unborn Road.

The dying can't vote the mentally handicapped.

Can't vote, they don't care they don't matter that they're not factored in. So if it makes adult voters happy to have abortion and euthanasia available that's older and that is the kind of antilife antihuman mindset that were facing in the degree to which our churches don't stand against it prophetically. They are acting just like that you see over the ones you handed Jesus over to the room yeah great insights and there are also the ones that that led the persecution against the early believers in the book of acts and of course the high priesthood with a been controlled by Sadducees and that was that was often corrupt in those days, and really became a puppet of Rome while right. Somehow I think about there for sure.

As we consciously write about the Pharisees but not the Sadducees right so when I see like a religious coalition for abortion rights. When I see bishops of various churches going along with same-sex marriage.

Going along with abortion and euthanasia and abusive sex education and just nodding and smiling at the culture and talking about climate change and that of the salvation of salt. All I can think of is Anna's entire know it's fascinating.

I just glanced I was looking at an article you'd written which I want talk about the moment and next to it was my latest article on the screen stream.org and which asked to consider the Christians have Christ's love for Obama and Hillary and at the end of the article just a couple common so far but someone said this. No Christian can vote for Donald Trump as you believe you and Don are special. I am in the Eisenberger Christian will vote for straight Democratic ticket Democrats put the butter on ordinary people's bread. It isn't that kind of the very thing you're talking about, never mind the temptations in the desert.

This Christian felt like you think Jesus made a wrong decision that he should have turned those down to Brett that he should have a shouldn't unpopular miracle you should multiply the loaves and fishes every single day and brought the vote of the mob in Jerusalem.

Maybe the Romans would've made him their puppet king instead of Pilate or Herod the weather very much more powerfully yet again prophetically insightful as always, John, you got article on the stream that Obama just betray Syrian Christians to please the Turks seem so tell us about this out with an appalling situation at door only to action in the increasingly splintered countries. An offer any protection to the Christian. The Saudi government, which has plenty of human rights violations by night, for political reasons.

It find it advantageous to protect the Christian and and also the our light to have been the dominant minority in Syria, but they will be subject to persecute subjects persecution. If any of these rebel groups including some US is supporting the path were to come to power. Isis or the Al Qaeda affiliated with Syrian rebels were funded by Saudi Arabia any of them kind of power to get violent religious freedom for the Christian say goodbye religious freedom for the Shiites in the our light felt the Syrian government for all its flaws is protecting religious freedom for Christians there and also the current Kurds have made an alliance with the much smaller action on the Syrian Christian who were there been there for thousands of years. Some of the names we see in the New Testament are placed in area and they have a Democratic region with free elections where women take part in parliament. Human rights are protected and that discourages Christian alliance had been getting support from the United States until that perhaps Craig attempted to enter Turkey now and again is turning Turkey even more quickly into an Islamist dictatorship cracking on Christians even more. He wants to obliterate the curtain. She did not want the Kurds to have any kind of autonomy in Syria that will lead to the Kurds wanting independence in Turkey, Kurds are nation, like the Jews were in the tens and 20s a nation without a land doesn't have a state that really is entitled, the Kurds have been fighting alongside the Christian beating Ison in part with some modest American helped all of a sudden Obama wanted to patch things up with Turkey wants to keep Turkey and NATO Turkey have started coaching up to Russia though it is incredibly cynical, strategic calculation throwing the Kurds in Christian to the wall and often letting Turkey take over these places that Kurds and Christians paid for with their blood fighting against Isis and it's just tragic. So this is this is more than just see appeals in Iraq that we should help on the Kurds because they are effectively fighting against Isis and they haven't back down there much more courageous and most of them would be would be Muslims this this is this is in that sense and that's a real issue. There why we haven't done more to help them as as they are being attacked is there losing their lives as they are fighting courageously but this this is is a misgiving people over the slaughter talking Christians and of course when you look at the immigrants from Syria coming over to America when we have the three Christian so far out of the Army thing is so bizarre, why are we hearing more about this. I think the media is caught up in political correctness and Middle Eastern Christians are wanderers groups. It's okay to forget about yeah one of those groups don't really fit neatly in our categories to make an ability to think, okay, book quite anonymous. And while it's weird that's of confusing but why can't they get candidate get with the program.

Now your fundamentally be a Muslim at your own fault if you're going to insist on stubbornly holding to an unpopular religion and what you expect. If I could use a Vermont there are still several thousand Jews in Iran were not treated well at all and people just basically take it for granted that Israel is all the other Jews were driven out of the Arab world, and in 1948 hey John, thanks as always for your insights. Love reading your stuff and take care your dog there. Thank you God bless God bless you file the line of fire with your host Dr. Michael Brown get into the minor fire now by calling 866-34-TRUTH dear again is Dr. Michael Brown born because of the figures of speech. When we explain things and then the Bible becomes intriguing and incomparably get what the Bible is really addressing. Yes the words of Craig Keener about backgrounds to the Bible it's it's a major reason I got into the studies I got into to understand the Bible in its original languages and in its cultural context so you get your copy of the NIV cultural backgrounds study Bible and with that the two hour exclusive interviews Craig can we pay the postage as well just go to my radio website. The line of fire.org you can order right there. I make it's a player Fessenden clip with Craig about the Pharisees and among first week of the phones in Bethesda, Maryland Rob walking to the line of fire showing the agreement that you love your enemy. I heard what you said about the not attacking out fishing pier commander and wondering if there ever is an appropriate time for such a ticketed profit picked up Mark King Ahab in front of Jehoshaphat without appropriate very fair question Rob note number one, there are actually times to call to account absolutely times to speak against to denounce the call for repentance in the strongest possible terms, absolutely and there may be times for some type of satire or sarcasm. It's it's possible that that that that can be appropriate.

But what makes me uncomfortable is that it's one thing for a prophet to have a word from the Lord to do something. It's another thing. Once an extension of of our own personality. You know by by my New York Jewish nature.

It's very easy to be sarcastic and we rejoice. Literally I have on my desk, and reaching over to get it.

It's an excellent old book of Mads Al Jaffe spews out snappy answers to stupid questions and you die. I grew up with this and we joke about it as as a as a family you know in the end there is a time when it is really really fleshly or really carnal you know and it and it's it's her, it's hurtful.

There's no respect in it. There is no desire for redemption in it and that's what I'm concerned that that many of us think were being prophetic and were just being self-righteous or hypocritical, and now we have the example of Jesus to overcome evil with good. To bless those who curse us to pray for those who persecute us. So it is possible that God could raise up some of the prophetic word, to speak in a sarcastic way of rebuke for a government leader but I believe that the general spirit of the New Testament would still be one that would have yes rebuke yes judgment but with the spirit of respect for the leadership with a started of of honor for the leader that you are rebuking him, but out there to our country. We are all equal. Though some people are more people another and politicking for particularly themselves out with their or conduct in life and lack of moral and whatnot to be opened, and I also like to go. But that is a chuckle with the lock people who are blocking the politician by doing a condescending voice about them. I found irony in that. Yeah, well, just that the other thing the Rob. Let's say Bill Clinton was guilty but he was guilty of he's not slick Willie to me that you still the president and I grieved over his his immorality and and the influence really had over people, even introducing a particular sexual act as if that's now you will become normative for the Sutley Saxon and things like that, you know, and in the culture is thought of a certain way.

There were the real negative implications for that but which rebuke him in such a way that we become the self-righteous hypocrites failing to acknowledge our own moral weakness. Like I said, the people would say well, Jesus called Harry Fox many people rebuking you know are mocking Bill Clinton their characters close to the letter Bill Clinton than it is to that of Jesus. And that's that's where we need to be so careful. Hey Rob, thanks for weighing in. You know, I don't think I have time to play that whole clip not to be too long that the Clippers can play from Craig Keener talking about the Pharisees take Joey that second clip resettlement Romans. I played the first if you can grab that second clip is timeout Romans and cultural application you commemorate let's let's listen to that issue.

It was obviously a burning issue import.

Doing this you today, but her back then Gentiles were the minority within the church within the churches they were. And today the other way around. But also the issue. Many of the Jewish people, especially the food, leaving in Messiah Jewish leaders had been expelled from Rome around here 49 Paul is writing Romans probably run dear maybe 55 or somewhere just before that. 54.

The Emperor had died. Jewish people were allowed to return to Rome and fill what you had was the congregate congregations that were largely Gentile now have an influx again of Jewish believers and so it sets the stage for a clash between cultures, but that also provides a model for the day of ethnic reconciliation because of God.

But like in Romans 14, you know, your different customers may be different. Even here, even though there the day you fell everything clearly different but if God would do that with something he himself established in history that the model cross regulation for nucleation. I would like considered analogous to segregated lunch counters like that. Realizing the thing that actually it was an associate minister in an African-American church and myself so really helpful yet.

So again, great comments from Craig Keener understand the Bible and its cultural context enables us then to apply to our context today and we see is that that many similar things arise in each generation in the Bible is ready to address those challenges. So be equipped with the NIV cultural background study Bible again when you're through a website you're helping us with a radio ministry will pay the postage on it and giving you free the CD.
