This is the Truth Network. This is the Truth Network. Kingdom Pursuits, where you hear from ordinary people instilled with an extraordinary passion. Together we explore the stories of men and women who take what they love and let God turn their passion into kingdom pursuits.

Now, live from the Truth Booth, your host, Robbie Dilmore. I don't know if you knew it, but it's actually Super Bowl Eve. Yeah. And so I find it more than amazing that God continues to show me different things about all sorts of stuff. But here we are on Super Bowl Eve, and I have with me an old friend, a prolific author teacher pastor and And on his way to New England, not too terribly far from now.

And so. Pastor Lloyd Taylor has been on many times. It's so good to have you back, Pastor. And you got new stuff going on, but one of the things he's got, this is a. A plethora of books that we may give away later in our opportunity for you to call in and win.

But we have a new book he just wrote: What's Right in This Upside Down World? Right, Pastor? Yes, sir. And from what I understand, he's offering a free.

Now, this is his own. There's nothing. Terribly humorous about this, but nonetheless, it might be when you look it up, that he wants to have a trivia question just for people who can tell: where is the world upside down in the Bible? There you go. 866-348-7884.

You're going to get one of these books. It's great being with you, Rob. I really love this program, especially when it says ordinary persons or ordinary people. I'm certainly one of those. But thank you for having me today.

Oh, it's so fun. And I love this. What's Right in this upside. You know, that's looking on the bright side of things. And certainly, when you look at that passage, you might be surprised at what it actually is saying.

866-348-7884. Warrior is. Are things upside down? In the Bible. Where's the world?

Specifically, the world upside down in the Bible. And then we have his other book, a deeper study. It's called Reflections from a Simple Poet. Yeah, that's over 180 poems that I've written on various things in my life. That I've experienced.

Some are very spiritual and deep, some are very humorous.

Some are long, some are short. There are stories there that are put to poetry that I think you might find enjoyable as something to read. I think so too. And I happen to know that you're also a musician, and so you you write songs from time to time and so You know how cool. This last book, it may be an autobiography.

I don't know. It's called The Adventures of Mr. Pumpkinhead. Your young man in there said that his mother called him that when he was young. Pumpkinhead.

It's Nick's autobiography. No, no, no. It's Pumpkiny Tales by Lloyd, and I love it. You know.

some of the greatest writers in in Christian history Wrote you know, stories like this, you know, certainly, you know. Tolkien and the Chronicles are Narnica, Narnia by C.S. Lewis. And here we have the adventures. of Mr.

Pumpkinhead Pumpkin Tail.

So what a wonderful children's book.

Well, I was going down through Louisville one year during the fall festival time and someone had uh displayed a lady pumpkin woman On a bale of hay, and I told my wife, I said, Wouldn't it be nice if someone could create a children's story called Mr. Pumpkinhead?

So that's where it came from. Right. And so for those who are in Ohio this morning or Virginia, Louisville is not terribly far from Pastor Lloyd's. He lives in. uh area called Poftown, which is spelled P-F-A-F-F-T-O-W-N, and we used and and it was founded by Peter Poff.

And so I always would say Peter Poffer picked a pick and created Poftown. Anyway, now you're getting a little geography lesson in North Carolina. If you happen to be in Ohio today, you're going to have an opportunity to call in win, especially when we get to this speaking of New England. Right now. I love the money.

For now it's time. Yes, it is.

So you had your chance to call in on Where is the World Upside Down? We have more for you. But before that, You know what's coming, right, Nick? Oh, yeah.

So, speaking of New England, right, on this pre-Super Bowl extravaganza that we're talking about, do you know what the official snack food is of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots? Do you know, Lloyd? Mine is a little debious, but I don't know about this. This is the official snack food of the New England Patriots, just saying. Cheetos.

Really? Oh, you have to pass. Come on. Yeah, I can't help it. Anyway, probably not anymore, but back in the deflation days, you know.

Well, you can only throw that out a couple times and you've been six or seven or eleven times to the Super Bowl. That's the first time.

So what are the four seasons called in New England? You can try this one, Nick. What do you think? The four seasons are called in New England. Almost winter, winter, still winter, and three months of bad sledding.

And I bet they were experiencing that today. All right, this is my personal favorite. Of all my uh New England riddles this morning. What could you say about a girl who fell off a fishing boat just off the coast of Maine and was devoured? by a giant shellfish.

Huh. You might say a New England clam chowder. Yeah. Uh Mm. Oh well.

That one does tickle me, I gotta tell you.

So, with all that said, we actually have the Bible riddle today. And so, you know, when a lot of people think of New England, they think of Yankee Doodle, right? And so, you know, what's the best story in the Bible about doodling? Wow, what's the best story in the Bible about doodling? And I assure you, he was not a Yankee.

Or a Red Sox or a painter I did give away that it was a he. What's the best story in the Bible about doodling? 86634878848634 Truth. And if they can guess that, Nick, what can they win? It's amazing.

Absolutely. Yes, you will win a prize from our King of Pursuits prize vault. And in our prize vault today, we have LC Taylor's book. If you know the answer to Robbie's riddles, give us a call at 866-348-7884. And we also got back scratchers, we got water bottles, you know, we got a whole.

Yes, we do. They're not just back scratchers, Nick. They're not just back scratchers. These are gospel back scratchers. I strung them personally.

They have beads on them, so while you're scratching somebody's back, you can explain the whole gospel to them. You got the white bead and the black bead and the green bead. If you're not familiar with those, oh, I would love to share that with you. They're made of bamboo. Yeah, they're made of bamboo this time.

We don't have the cheap plastic ones anymore. These are first-class gospel back scratchers. That's, of course, and we've got these books, not to mention the adventures of Mr. Pumpkinhead. Looks amazing.

And. Pastor Lloyd's new book. Right? What's right in this upside-down World 866-348-7884-866-34 Truth. Tell us.

The best doodler in the Bible. It's amazing. I love this story of. doodling in the Bible. Not me, Robbie.

Do I really? Oh, yeah.

It just depends on where you're coming from with that question. Doodling is Yeah.

Now I have this Nobody knows what was said, so I would say it was doodling. I don't know. 866342. The book you just finished, right? What's right in an upside-down world?

This is not, this is, this is a small book. It's. Twenty What, 20? Six pages? Yeah, it's meant to be more of an evangelistic tool.

And it really can answer quite a few questions for someone who's confused about why the world is in such a terrible shape. Um In the passage that we're referring to, that we're wanting to use as a trivial question. The question was asked, or the statement was made, these people have turned the world upside down. See? In reality, the world was right side up when God gave it to Adam and Eve.

That's beautiful.

Well, we got to go to a break when we come back. We've got a whole lot more of this upside-down world, a little Mr. Pumpkinhead. You're listening to the Truth Network and TruthNetwork.com. Welcome back to Kingdom for Suits, where we hear how God takes your passion and uses it to build the kingdom.

So blessed to have with us today Pastor Lloyd Taylor. He is associate pastor at Fall Creek Baptist Church out there in Jonesville and author of several books that we're going to talk about here shortly. And on his way to New England on this Super Bowl Eve. Not that he's going this week, but, you know, it is Super Bowl Eve. But meanwhile, I couldn't be more excited because I have Andrea in Raleigh who knows about this doodler that was not a Yankee.

In the Bible. So, Andrea, who would you say is the best doodler in the Bible? I would have to say Jesus. Correct.

So in July 8th. And he bent down and wrote on the ground and doodled on the ground. Great. Yeah, when you said that, that was the first thing came to my mind. I'm like, who in the world do dudes in the Bible?

And I was like, Lord, who is that? And I started asking the Lord about it. And I mean, instantly, He brought me to that scripture. Of Jesus when he bent down and wrote on the ground. I'm like, yeah, that's it.

I once heard the most amazing. sermon on that scene. Um Max Lucato. Was speaking at the National Religious Broadcasters Convention that year, and he. went into that passage And He just highlighted Jesus stood up and then he stooped down, and then he stood up and then he stooped down.

And the different positions Um that he took Um It's one of the most profound Um I can possibly imagine. to actually be standing there just naked in front of God, your sin couldn't be more exposed. Yeah. And there he is, right? Yes, you're right.

And just talking about it, it just makes me want to go read about it now. Me too. It's just amazing stuff. God has a He has a purpose for everything. He does.

He does. Henri, I am so grateful for your call. I am so grateful for you're asking God who it was. Yeah, that's beautiful. First, when I don't know something about his word, I ask him first, and he's the one that would bring it back to my remembrance out of his word.

You know, I could not, and let me tell you how much I agree with that statement, Andrea. You know, one of the most wonderful things about Scripture memorization Right. It's been my experience. It's like, I don't know why, but God asked me two years ago to memorize the 119th Psalm, which is a little bit long. Yeah, it is.

Wow. And. What it did that caught me by surprise was it gave me such a conversational intimacy with the Holy Spirit because. By memory, there's no way that somebody my age is going to remember anything, right? Right.

And so the Holy Spirit just brings you the verses to your mind, and you're actually conversing with the Holy Spirit the whole time that you're reciting. Oh, my God. This is amazing. You're right. And if you're quoting the 23rd Psalm or you're quoting John 3:16, it is still the Holy Spirit that's feeding you what you've stored up in your heart.

And so what you said is exactly a beautiful, amazing picture. It was meant for me to call today and for me to hear it and for him to tell me and prompt me where it was so I can call so I can have this conversation with you because it is real you sharing what God told you about that psalm. I know I need to go read it too.

So that is well too. Oh man. He has a purpose for everything. Oh, he does. Thank you.

You couldn't be more wrong. God bless you. You have an amazing weekend. Again, I don't know which problem. You're going to get, but just saying that gospel backscratch is something that's happening.

Yeah. Thank you so much. Thank you. Bye-bye.

Okay. Let's see, I pre Yeah, he put her on hold so he could get her address. All right. Very good.

So, getting back to these very important books, because I really was looking at your chart. You know, this is. You know, how cool is it that that you took the time Because it's a real process. to write a book. And that's one of the reasons I love Kingdom Pursuits is like that you took the time and and obviously The effort to write this.

As an evangelist, you know, in other words, you got somebody you're trying to share Christ with. Say, let me, and they keep asking you about the upside-down world. You know, I love this these child these titles. of the chapters, the world upside down, can it happen?

So the world is upside down is number two. Seeing the upside down world is number three. Number four is right side up or upside down. And number five, a right side up world, and you don't have to be upside down. And number seven, do you want to be right side up?

Yeah. Well, thank you. And I love the idea that it's seven chapters. Is that a mistake, or do you did that on purpose?

Well, I think that was all of this was something I just felt led to do, and how it ended up is really gift that God gave me, and it's nothing profound in the least sense. You know, I just wanted to put something out there that could be a tool. The gentleman in our church had asked me the question, Lloyd, or he calls me, Elsie, what what's right with this upside-down world? And he said, Would you give that some thought? And the next thing you know, I'm jotting down notes.

And before long, I said, If it's okay, I'm going to just write a little pamphlet that we can use as a tool.

So at the very end, we have a gospel presentation and a way a person can accept Christ and then contact information, that type of thing. It would be a good little tool for any church to use. Right. Or, you know, to have on hand. For that inst, you know, that instant, somebody starts to enter into that conversation.

But, you know, it's absolutely beautiful, easy, 26 pages. You know.

Amazing. Amazing book. And then again, we talked about the book of poems. But the one I'm really, you know, being the child at heart kind of guy I am: The Adventures of Mr. Pumpkinhead, Pumpkiny Tales by Lloyd Taylor.

So. Wait. As you're talking about This thing is illustrated beautifully and it looks like a children's book. And it starts out apparently at the fabulous fall festival. And I would say that Mr.

Pumpkinhead is a very happy-looking Well what he does, he gets into mischievous uh Things and causes other pumpkins to join with him. And then at the end, I have like a little moral to the story. You remember, years ago, fairy tales normally would close with a very good, positive moral. And so, even though it's a fun story to read and colorful, at the end, I want there to be a message that the children or the readers take away that will help them to keep from making the same mistakes that Mr. Pumpkinhead made.

But what he does, Robbie, he creates a pumpkin man. In this episode, and they get into trouble because they stay up all night waiting for the fall festival. Then, when the fall festival comes, they're too tired to enjoy it. And doesn't that sound like Christmas to you? A lot of times, kids will wait up all night for Santa Claus to come, and then when Christmas comes, they're too sleepy to enjoy it.

So that's. That's the story of the fall festival. And then we have him learning how to ride a skateboard. You know, then we have the Frightful Friday event. Where he wants to go into Peopleville.

So I created all the images, the map, and all of that. Yeah, this too is these are chapters.

So there's Frightful Friday. And it looked pretty frightful. And then there's the big roller that apparently is the skateboard. That's the skateboard.

So, yeah, there are three different. But it's fascinating, having written screenplays for Christian Cargai Theater and all those kind of things, is I have an opportunity to write. Um stories. Um Mm-hmm. The fascinating thing is The more evil you can make the bad guy, the better the story.

Mm-hmm. You know why? Because your story. as a really, really evil bad guy. God's story.

In other words, all stories ball borrow their borrow their power from the gospel. I don't know if you've ever thought about that, but it's absolutely true that that You know, if you see a really, really good story, I'll bet you anything there's redemption involved. Oh, yeah.

I'll bet you anything there was some kind of character arc. Uh uh you know, where somebody was at the bottom and they find or they they're that reluctant hero. That all of a sudden if you you know you know If you go Study salaries of Hollywood actors, you're going to find that the bad guys get paid twice what the good guys get paid. It's not, it's not. Yeah.

Because it takes a lot of skill to be and when you really think about the great Disney. Experience movies, whatever, the the more evil they could make that wicked witch. Yeah. The more evil they could make, whatever that was, that you absolutely in your heart want to see him taken out, you see, then it draws you into the story and you begin to see. And again, you're looking for...

Christ, as was the woman caught in adultery.

Sounds great. I like that, Robbie. I like that you write and And then again, you put it out there. And so how did people get these books, Lloyd? They can actually contact you or contact me.

My email address is on there. It's Lloyd Snotes at Hotmail.com.

Okay. And they can do that. It's they're on Amazon.

So just go to Amazon.com, look up my name or the title of the book. Right. If you go to Amazon.com. Which I'll put this at kingdompursuits.com. And you just go to the author, Lloyd C.

Taylor. because he put Lloyd C on all of them.

So what does the C stand for in the inquiring mindset? Carter. Lloyd C. Taylor. And then you're going to find all three.

Well, there's a few more on there other than those three. Oh, you've written other books.

So but by all means, you need the children's book. Give that a, you know, for your grandson or granddaughter, as the case may be. Mr. Pumpkinhead, right? It's hard to find good Christian.

Books like that for young people.

So, we're gonna do a whole lot more with Lloyd C. Taylor. We haven't even gotten to New England yet. We're gonna be making the main thing the main thing. Here.

with Cheetos. You're listening to The Truth Network and TruthNetwork.com. Welcome back to Kingdom Pursuits, where we hear how God takes your passion. And uses it to build the kingdom.

So fun today. We have Pastor Lloyd Taylor with us. Prolific author. Yeah. of many books, Lloyd C.

Taylor again, and pastor of several churches. Over the years, and one of those he founded was in New England when he was a church planner. And that's, you know, kind of a neat thing about Lloyd is he steps out in faith. When God puts something on his heart, he'll either write that book or whatever it is that God puts on his heart.

So You've This church in New England that you're going to do this mission trip. From what I understand, when you were planning churches, why would anybody go to New England of all places? I mean, it's cold up there, Pastor. It certainly is cold. And a lot of Yankees for a southerner, and there's a shell shock there when you first arrive.

Yeah, glam chowder. But you know, down in the.

South, we have the Bible Belt. On every hand, there are good, good, good Bible-believing churches. In New England, even to this day, there's such a need for good Bible-believing churches.

So, when I accepted the call to preach and was looking for an opportunity to minister, I took that. phrase Paul said, where I would not build upon another man's work. And I thought, you know, I believe that's what that's saying to me is to go to New England and start your own ministry. And so we went there and. Was led eventually to Franklin, Massachusetts, which, by the way, is only a few minutes from Foxborough, where the New England Patriots play.

And that's where we became a New England fan. But getting back to the church, we started with just our family. And within a few years, we rented a little upstairs moose hall that was would accommodate probably about 50 people.

So we were able to fill that up and then started looking for property. And we found this old lamp factory. that was closed down. and we inquired about purchasing it. And uh the guy wanted I think he wanted something like $70,000 down.

So we had to raise quite a bit of money, but the Lord helped us to do that within a matter of a few months, and we were able to buy the building. And start renovation. There were people from several different states that came up to help us. One of the churches that contributed to our ministry was Liberty Baptist Church. Dr.

Falwell sent us an offering to help purchase that property.

So we had people from all over the country that helped us with purchasing it and renovation.

So that was back in 1983, 82 and 83.

So now the church is in need of some repair. And God had laid it on my heart. We went up for their anniversary last year, and I just broke my heart that there were certain things like in disrepair that I felt like maybe just a few helping hands could get that turned around and make a better public image in the community and help the pastor who has had health problems, help him to be able to get like a shot in the arm spiritually.

So we're organizing a group of people to go up and do some renovation work. And at the same time, we'll be doing some evangelistic outreach and children's ministry to try to help the pastor there. How exciting, right? Go back. How many years ago did you leave?

That was 44 years. Four years ago, I think. And he's been the pastor ever since you left? He became pastor about a year after I left. He's a really great guy, Dr.

Kurt DeVitro. And you've been friends all these years. And so are there still families there that you were involved in to serve? That's exciting. I mean, we went back just like last year, and still there are folks there that were led to Christ.

Baptized in that ministry and became members that are still faithfully serving the Lord from that church, which is so, so exciting. Isn't it to see what God's done and you know You don't know all the people that they've touched, been touched by them as essentially. You know, that's been a community that fed originally that God put it on your heart that you could be part of that. Yeah. Real exciting.

And so You are trying to raise funds to help that Approximately $20,000 to go up and replace some door units, which the one main door unit is a special order. That's very expensive. And then we need to replace the porch on the front of the church, which is a rather large porch. And then the par parsonage where the pastor lives, we've got to work on redoing his ports because of his health. He needs something that's a little bit more accommodating for his physical abilities.

And so, was that the parsonage when you were there? Yes, sir. So it's completely paid for. It's amazing. And the Lord blessed in being able to do all of that.

Yeah, that is amazing. Again, you can reach out to me or Pastor Lloyd, well, if you reach out to me, I'll get you up with that. ministry and and we'll get you going. We're actually funneling everything contributions through Fall Creek Baptist Church in Jonesville.

Okay. You can look that up online. Fall Creek Baptist Church in Jonesville.

So again, you know, really, really cool that God has taken you and and so many different ways 'cause to know pastor is is cool and I think a lot of people are this way that if you really get to know 'em, you'll find that they don't just have one passion that God's using, right? You offer up all your gifts and talents. And and so Really fun to hear him play. He loves bluegrass music. And so, you know, he's got that going on, as well as his.

Um authoring You know, different styles of books there. You can see from children's books to this evangelical book, and then. Yeah. And so now Associate pastor. And I loved what you described as part of the reason why that was a good fit for you.

Well, we came to Poftown. almost four years ago and uh was uh voted into a little church that was struggling. And for three years, three plus years, we did everything we could do to help it to grow and just could not see any growth. And the congregation had dwindled down to eight members. And then we found out there was a church in the area.

that had over eighty members and needed a building.

So we got with our church, then got with the pastor of that church. And basically, just gave them our church building, which was completely paid for. and all the facilities just turned it over to them. And so the Bible Fellowship Baptist Church now has become Old Time Baptist Church, which currently is worshiping in King. And they'll be moving to Poftown in April for their opening services in the same building.

So I tell people, the good news is our church went from eight people to 88 people overnight. But then the bad news, I lost my job. That's probably good news. But what came out of that is I met Pastor Don Hudson, who is pastor of Fall Creek Baptist Church, and he needed someone to assist him in his ministry, a rather large ministry, and asked if I would come and consider being an associate pastor there.

So, really, it's been such an answer to prayer for my wife and myself to be able to find a place to plug into. Where we feel we're loved, and the pastor feels like we're being such a help to him.

So it's really been a great combination and answer to prayer. Yeah, one of the things that you had mentioned to me that I thought was beautiful Is that because you live in Poftown, and he obviously lives up there in Jonesville, that there's a lot of folks that are in the hospital, and you're in such a convenient place because a big part of being a pastor, I can assure you, is wanting to be with people when they're in that crisis, whatever that may be, especially health-wise. And so. Uh You know, I think it's really neat that he saw that and and shared that vision with you and Uh Because uh you know, there's something special that happens. In hospitals and with pastors, I know that from a personal experience standpoint.

You're right. That, um, You know, God allows. things like that i i in order to build in a real wonderful relationships and churches, I'm telling you.

So right. And it happens not necessarily always in the church building. And so we got one more segment coming up with Pastor Lloyd. Of course, if you feel like calling in and commenting, we always love your calls. 866-348-7884, 866-34TRUTH.

We'll be right back. You're listening to the Truth Network and TruthNetwork.com. Welcome back to Kingdom Pursuits, where we hear how God takes Your passion then uses it to build the kingdom. Having so much fun today with Lloyd Taylor. He is Lloyd C.

Taylor. If you're looking up for his author page at Amazon, he wrote Reflections from The Simple Poet, which we're going to read from here in a second. Again, What's Right in This Upside Down World? And again, The Adventures of Mr. Pumpkinhead.

Pumpkiny Tales.

So, you know, very cool stuff for a children's book. You know, they make neat gifts. And so. I just wanted to read one of these here. This one that I saw that looked interesting.

It's called deadly temptation. And so He looked at me and grimaced. We got to know about this deadly temptation here. It says. We use the rodent's own lustful appetite to entice and bring it to its death.

Likewise, many men have fallen to the same end, allowing appetites to bring entrapment. and seal their fate. When we sensed the creature in danger, we longed to cry out, Run, little one!

However, it's too late. The trap slaps quickly and holds tight. What were the final thoughts of such a death snuffed life? Oft times, when sensing my fellow in danger, I wish to cry out, Run Some do, but others hesitate. Alas for many it was too late, and lust sealed their fame.

Their fate, not their fame, but their fate, and sometimes fateful fame. Then I think Maybe it would be different. If they could have known the end and the beginning. Maybe it would have turned out differently. Maybe if they could do it again.

they would decide to go hungry. Wow. Certainly in the times we live in today. Um Those things. It's interesting.

God gave you those. Amazing appetites. that you would be hungry for the right food. Yeah. And Satan can use our appetites to deceive us and trick us, much like the Mousetrap.

It's fascinating you mentioned this because recently I've become more interested in mousetraps. I don't know. We have a basement that just for whatever time, you know, if it gets really cold outside, it will attract them. Right. We we live in the country somewhat.

We live up in in s in um Rockingham County and Yeah.

So I came across this new one. I don't know if you've seen it, it's a five-gallon bucket. And you get this it's got this little Mouse ladder that goes up to the top of the bucket and then at the top of the bucket is this like you you load it up with peanut butter or whatever and then they when they step across this little thing then they go, Woo and and it it goes down into the water uh, you know, that's about halfway up the bucket. And the poor little guy, you know, he he he let his appetite get a cont control of him, but You know, I don't know. But the advantage to it is, from what I understand, I haven't experienced this yet, that if you have multiple little guys, you know.

The tra the trap isn't used up if they decide to, you know, flock the bait. you know, they're all gonna Find their end in the situation. But nonetheless, You know, even even our appetites for food. are such a snare. Right, and that's something you get to deal with almost every single day, and it's often You know, for me, a wake-up call like, Robbie, what are you really hungry for here?

Correct.

And You know, you you you haven't eaten anything decent in hours. Yeah. Well, I think that little poem came out of a study I was doing in James. where he talked about temptations How the the hunter will set a trap and a lur a fisherman would use a lure. And so Satan sometimes is like that.

I think James is implying we need to be very careful here. that we don't allow our appetites. to give in to the temptations to cause us to do wrong things. Because the end is death. Yeah, always.

And and certainly Solomon. Mm-hmm. in a rote You know, about the wayward woman, in the same way. You know, I couldn't help but think of that one as I was reading your poem: that you know, our appetites. are an interesting Gift, but they can also be a curse.

But how many things in our life are like that? Correct.

Correct.

And so it's it's it's It's like a check engine light in my mind. Right.
