This is the Truth Network. This is the Truth Network. Kingdom Pursuits, where you hear from ordinary people instilled with an extraordinary passion. Together we explore the stories of men and women who take what they love and let God turn their passion into kingdom pursuits.

Now, live from the Truth Booth, your host, Robbie Dilmore. How fun today from Colorado, I believe. We have Ashley. And I'll make sure I pronounce your last name right. Is it Glatter?

Yes, good job. Because I bet more than one person has said glater. But it's oh yeah. But it's Ashley Glatter, and she is living with Moxie. That's her uh website.

And uh a a mom. And and uh I'll let you explain your ministry t for yourself, Ashley. Yeah, so It's kind of just getting going, but um I started blogging. Oh, it's probably been Eight, nine years ago now. And I'm currently trying to write a book talking about my trials.

And how I've wrestled with God through them and continued to persevere in the faith. I love it. And wrestling with God, i you know. It actually Um Gives us that idea of Israel, right? Yeah, for sure.

And so this is going to be a wonderful. And you're working on the book. Does it have a working title at this point? Yeah, actually to wrestle and to embrace, which comes from Habakkuk. But it's kind of just the idea of wrestling with God and then coming to more of a trust and surrender to Him in the end.

And I was just listening to my Bible in a year this morning, and they were talking about Jacob and how he wrestled with God. Oh, and I'll tell you, it's a fascinating thing that you mentioned embrace. Because really a fascinating thing. That um And it's a bit of a story, but we got time. We'll share it.

So. That every year At the beginning of the year, or at the end of the previous year, I asked God for a word for next year. And Three years ago. The word he gave me was... to engage.

Right? Not unlike wrestling or to embrace. And so I am. Like, okay, God, what does this look like this year? You know, what you you tell me and instruct me and I'm praying every morning.

God, okay, I know my word is engaged. What does this mean? He goes, Aye, well, first thing he wanted me to do is he wanted me to memorize the sixteenth Psalm. Which is wonderful because at the end of the sixteenth Psalm it says, you know, In his presence is fullness of joy. At his right hand are pleasures forevermore.

And I thought, wow, how cool. I'll memorize this and get to know how to do all that. Which was wonderful. And I got done with that. I said, okay, God, how are we going to engage now?

And he says, well, now I want you to memorize the 13th Psalm. I was like, what in the world is the 13th Psalm? Never heard of it. And I'm just saying, man, I hope it's not long. Those were my exact words.

I hope it's not long. And so the very first verse, In the thirteenth Psalm. How long, oh Lord? It really is. And I was just, oh man, here we go.

And so I got done with that. And I said, okay, now, Our Lord. And he said, I want you to memorize the 119 Psalm, which is. You may know the longest chapter in the Bible. Yes.

And he was really, you know. And as I memorized the 119th Psalm, and I love Hebrew, and it's eight verses on every letter of Hebrew in the Bible. And so I was. Uh enamored by how much David wanted to be taught the statutes. And the statutes.

Or just the word statute in Hebrew is just two letters. It's a het and a kuf. And I could see that these two letters were a mystery to David, especially when you put them together. And so As I got done with that. I was like, okay, God, where are we going next?

Well, if you want to study the letter head, it's the seventh letter in the Hebrew alphabet in there. Um that that God had me Um Excuse me, it's the eighth letter in the Hebrew alphabet, and there are eight chapters in the Song of Solomon, and there will probably be a never better book on marriage than the Song of Solomon, and Het has everything to do with that, so I did that. Mm-hmm. And I said, okay, now we're gone. And he said Habakkuk Habakkuk.

And I And I went.

Well, that's interesting. Because there are three kufs. You know, the second letter in the st word statutes. Is that cuff?

Well, a cuff. has to do and it just to get to your point has to do with proximity. In fact, you could argue that Habakkuk Habakkuk's name means to hug. Hmm.

Well that's really cool. And so as you talked about this idea of embracing and wrestling, and again, you know, if you spend a lot of time in Habakkuk, which I have, then you will come to the conclusion that, wow, talk about a wrestling match between God and the profit. Yeah, yeah, exactly. It's encouraging, I think. When we see people in the Bible who are wrestling and so uncertain, you know, they don't know what God is doing, but they can come to this place of trust anyway.

And so I I find it fascinating. I was like, really? Like Habakkuk, you're studying Habakkuk.

So, you know, that's encouraging, Ashley. It really is. Especially with, you know, if you're writing a book on that subject, it's. It's it's absolutely amazing. And I don't know if you're familiar with um The word Holiness In Hebrew is kadosh, and that starts with that letter kuf, that same letter that you're talking about wrestling, okay?

Because it has to do with proximity. And you may know that the closer you get to God... Because he's completely holy. you know, he pretty much cooks off all your impurities. Yeah.

I mean, in other words, if you're not, if you got close to God and you weren't, you know, you're going to end up like Aaron's boys. I mean, it's not going to go good for you. Yeah. As as we Get into this idea of holiness. Not only does it have to do with how close you are to God, your proximity to God, like Moses, when he spent all that time with God, ended up with the shine on his face.

Well It also has to do with time. Hmm.

And the closer you get to God, the more you go out of time. And the evidence of that is like: if you've ever been in a prayer session or even in a Bible study or in a deep Discussion with another human being about the Bible, and all of a sudden you lose all track of time. You know why? Because you just went into the God zone. Interesting.

Right, because in God there is no time. And so when you Get to that place of Really, really intense closeness like you're describing. And um Then there's that other effect that comes with that letter kuff. You want to see evidence in the scriptures of what I'm talking about. If you go to the kuf section of the 119th Psalm, you're going to see.

um what I'm talking about, that the last verse in the cook section says You know, thy word is true from the beginning, and every one of thy precious commandments lasts forever. In other words, he's he's talking about time. And every every verse has to do with the letter. that it was written about, right? And so it's given you that idea that time And space Are very much connected to that whole thing, which, when you think about it, How long did Jacob wrestle?

Wasn't it one night? Yeah, all night. And I don't know, you know, Nikita Golov is a good friend of mine, the Russian Nightmare. He was a professional wrestler. And you know, to go an hour.

takes phenomenal conditioning. Yeah, right. Right. But here you are wrestling God. Like you're wrestling.

What? And you're going to do that all night? Yeah. It's pretty miraculous, right? And so it really is.

We're going to find out more about Ashley's struggles. And clearly, we've got a whole lot to talk about. The book that she's working on, she has a beautiful website. Again, it's Ashley. Gladder, living with Moxie.

And what's the address on that, Ashley? It's just AshleyGladder.com. Easy, which is A-S-H-L-E-Y-G-L-A-D-E-R dot com. And if you go there you can find it. And if you how close are you on your book, do you think?

Um, it's I'm trying to find an agent, so that's why. Oh, good, good, good. You're close.

Alright, well we gotta go to a break. When we come back, yes, we're gonna play shenanigans. and it's going to be fun because it's going to have to do with Moxie. And We have in my hand the latest edition of the Kingdom Pursuits Gospel Backscratcher. Available.

We'll be right back. You're listening to the Truth Network and TruthNetwork.com. Welcome back to Kingdom Pursuits, where we hear how God takes your passion. And uses it to build the kingdom.

So blessed to have with us from Colorado, Ashley Glatter. And she is living with Moxie. She's a mom, she's got much to share with us. We're going to get to that shortly. But, of course, this being Kingdom Pursuits, we have to, you know, think about shenanigans.

And so speaking of Moxie. Yeah. Cause now it's time for flation and agree. Oh, yes, it is. And so, Ashley, we can tell your age if you've ever heard that song.

I don't think that much younger than much, much younger. That was a game show that came on Saturday mornings in the early 60s.

Okay. And they would throw pies in people's faces. It was this typical slapstick kind of comedy that. But it was like a cartoon show, but it was all for kids. And they played all sorts of shenanigan games, which is what we're going to do.

So I get a chance to share some of my. Dad humor, granddad humor, as the case may be.

So. If you're trying to cast Dwayne Johnson in a movie, it takes Moxie, don't you think, Nick? Oh, yeah. It would take Moxie if you were like, man, I'm going to do a movie. On wrestling with God, and I'm going to use, and you know, because him being a wrestler, he'd be the one to cast, right?

Right. But if you actually did cast the rock What would that be? Oh, uh, mm. What do you think, Ashley? Have you got an idea?

I'm thinking, I don't know. If you're trying to cast Dwayne Johnson in a movie, it takes Moxie, but actually casting The Rock. Uh It's bolder. Oh, yeah. So I don't know, you heard about this recently.

There was a very bold robber. burglar in England and he actually broke into a police station. And he stole all the commodes, like all of them. Out of the police station. You know what the police are now reporting, Ashley?

You ought to get this one, Nick. What are the police reporting? Oh, I'm so bad. I don't know. They have nothing to go on.

Oh, brother. Yeah, that's that. There you go. That was a bold robert, right?

So if you had a dog with Moxie. If you had a dog with Moxie, right? What would he want to do? If you had a dog with Moxie, what would he want to do? Don't worry, Ashley, it's almost over.

Uh Oh, I don't know. He would want to embark on an adventure. That's what I would do. And so we got enough groaning in. You knew at the end of their shenanigans, I would actually have a Bible riddle for you to call in and win today.

And so the question today for our studio audience, not for our listening audience, is simply this. Who in the Bible, from your standpoint, had the most moxie? Who in the Bible had the most moxie? And if you answer that, You can call us at 866-348-7884. 866-348-7884.

And if they can do that, Nick, tell them what they'll win. Absolutely. Yes, you'll be winning a prize from the Canaan Pursuits Prize Vault. Like Robbie said, we just got more back scratchers with beads at the end that will. And we also have date the word calendars for 2026 as well.

So if you know the answer to Robbie's riddle, give us a call at 866-348-7884. That's 866-342. Yes, you can call in, and all you got to do is tell us who has the most Moxie who had, and probably still has the most Moxie in the Bible. 866-348-7884. And so I'm actually holding in my hand.

The official Kingdom Pursuits Gospel. Backscratcher. The reason why we call it a gospel backscratcher is because it does, in fact, have all the beads. In fact, you may have seen You know, the traditional black bead bead that stands for sin, and the red bead that stands for Jesus' blood, and the white bead that stands for purity, and the green bead that stands for spiritual growth, and the yellow bead that is the hope of heaven. But this has not only all those beads.

But we have added the clear bead. Do you know what the clear bead's for, Ashley? Yeah. So How cool is it going to be that when we are so... Cleansed.

that people don't see us anymore, they see Jesus. This one might like that. that there's a line in St. Patrick's breastplate, which is a prayer. That says, Christ in the eye of every man that sees me, Christ in the ear of every man that hears me.

Wouldn't that be amazing? To actually get that point.

So you can get now, this you can scratch back. This is bamboo. And it's long. It's way improved over the old plastic back scratchers we used to have. And we have added the clear bead to give you this all the excitement, and all you have to do is call in.

Tell us who are the most moxie in the Bible, 866-348-7884.

So, Ashley, tell us about your family. Yeah, so I have um Four kids, one in heaven, three on earth. Um And a wonderful husband. And yeah. And how old are they?

So, my oldest is in seventh grade, and then I have a fourth grader, and then Joshua, the one we lost, he. Is was our third, and then our fourth one is Jude, and he's in first grade. Wow, and I'm guessing a lot of your wrestling with God has to do with Joshua? Yeah, it it does. It kind of starts when I was 11 years old and my brother was killed in the Columbine High School shooting.

Wow. You do live in Colorado. Do you live in do you live in Littleton? Yeah. Yep, so kind of stayed in the same area.

It's actually a beautiful area right by the foothills. Do you know that I went to elementary school in Littleton? Oh, really? Peabody Elementary School. Is it still there?

Um I don't know. That it's kind of weird because we live in unincorporated Jefferson County and then there's actually the city of Littleton. Oh, okay. All right.

Well, I didn't mean to distract you. We were talking about when you were eleven. Take us back. I was just excited. I did not know.

that that that's where you lived. But Yeah. And so you were your brother Like, oh my goodness. Yeah. Yeah, so Um I was 11, he was 16.

And actually the night before he died, I kinda had this premonition that I wasn't gonna see him again. And so I said I love them. one extra time that night. woke up the next morning and saw him off to school. He had a old beat up pickup truck that he saved with his own money to buy.

And I heard that rumble down the street, and I didn't realize that that was the last time I would see him. Um So kind of I mean, our faith as a family was very strong. But it kind of led to some doubts. You know, it was like All right, why why should I pray? If it doesn't work, you know, if all those prayers that my mom prayed in her mom's in prayer group for safety and all of that.

Why should I pray? Or You know, people saying that God has such a great plan for your life. And I just, I kind of developed a little bit of this cynicism. you know, with all of Oh, I can't believe it. And yeah, it doesn't mean that You know, we still went to church.

I still read my Bible. I really dug into trying to find answers. as I grew into a teenager, college student, Um And I do think it strengthened my faith a lot. And I think just going through that at a young age, it helps you see. just the world in a different light and you kind of have your eyes open to the suffering in other people as well.

But then, when I was fast forward, got married. Um And had two children, one was my daughter and then we had my son John who I named after my brother. And then we were pregnant with our third child. And I started getting a lot of anxiety with that third pregnancy and I I couldn't figure out why. And one day I had actually just started writing my blog.

And I put in the blog I feel like God's telling me that. I'm going to make it through whatever's ahead. Not in my own strength, but in the strength. strength of Christ. And just a few weeks later, we went to our twenty week ultrasound.

and found out that our son didn't have a left arm. had possible stomach and heart issues. And we are left with a lot of uncertainty.

So you know, where do you go from there? we were devastated, but we knew that we were going to fight for our son. And he made it to 38 weeks pregnant. He was born and Went straight to the NICU. We spent the next two and a half months just with surgeries and honestly a lot of trauma.

And trying to figure out what was all wrong with him. He had a lot of anomalies. and birth defects that we discovered one after the other. And then we finally got to take him home. After a day and a half at home, he passed away.

And That kind of unleashed all of the doubts. And everything that I had ever felt, I knew that my only hope was in God. And in heaven. But Again, it was like, okay, why does God perform miracles on some people and not others? Why should I pray?

And we prayed. when I was pregnant and we had so many people praying for us. And it was just these questions, almost like a feeling of betrayal, you know. Wow, wow that music means we are fixed to go to a break. And imagine you're like me, I'm dying to hear More of this wrestling match, as I'm sure you are.

And again, if you've got, we've got plenty of time. If you want to call in and answer this question, who do you think really? Had the most moxie, and you can imagine how much moxie Ashley has now as you're hearing more of her story between her brother. and her son 866-348 You're listening to The Truth Network and TruthNetwork.com. Welcome back to Kingdom Pursuits, where we hear how God takes your passion.

And uses it to build the kingdom.

So blessed to have with us Ashley Glatter with us today, living with Moxie. And if you've been listening to her story, I'm sure you agree with me. My goodness. Talk about Moxie. And I would also point out, before we get too much further in it, that you still have an opportunity to call in and win that.

Prize of your choice, the date, the word calendar, the back scratcher. All you got to do is tell us who had the most moxie in the Bible. 866-348-7884. So. Ashley When we uh Left Unfortunately, it You were at that point that I guess we would all be like, Why am I praying?

What, you know, what is going on with all that? And So right. Right. You kind of have this. Um Question of Does God really care?

You know, if He cared, wouldn't He have intervened or done something? And it took me a lot of time. Um just you know, whether you feel like it or not. We still went to church. We still read the Bible.

I still went to Bible study, and thankfully, I had a lot of amazing women that. Just listened and helped me process everything, but I couldn't pray for a while. And eventually I just couldn't help it. I had to pray, and I think it's okay to come to God with, like, I don't get it, I don't understand what you're doing. Um And over time, I kind of tried to dig for those moments where.

I knew God was there. You know, the way people supported us. And brought us meals and seeing my little boy smile, finding those. moments of beauty and and so much trauma. It wasn't easy.

But as time went on, I honestly just came to the conclusion that we don't always. we aren't always going to understand why certain things happen. I think we will understand when we meet him face to face. And so that's where. My hope is, and just two years after losing my son, My 35-year-old other sibling was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer.

And so With that, I thought, okay. I'm not mad at God. Um and I just realized that We don't always understand the reasons why, but we still need to trust. And so, throughout my brother's life, He passed away a year ago today, actually. Um His life really changed.

He became closer to Christ, and my prayers changed from just healing, you know, asking God to heal, to God, use this. be close to my brother. Um You know, let this change us for the good. Let this bring others to you. And it's okay to ask for healing, but that shouldn't be our main concern.

And one of my brother's last things he said to me was, Surrender everything you are to God. And at the end of his life, I felt like I finally had, I had finally surrendered. To the unknown. Um And you know, just to all those questions that will never be answered, and so many things that happen in the world that. We don't get why they're happening.

It's okay. We don't have to have the answers to that, to trust in God. And to keep our hope in him and what's next, you know, which is eternal life with him. Right. And I imagine.

You know, to go back in your story a little bit, I didn't want to interrupt. when you were describing it, but I know a lot of people probably have similar questions that I do. Um you're The brother that lost his life at Columbine. Mm-hmm. Was there some story that went along with that?

Um Did did you get word on how he was actually killed or anything like that? Uh Yeah, I mean. He was one of the ones murdered in the library of the school that day. Um A girl, they were all, all the students were told, you know, back then you didn't just. practice lockdown drills.

It just wasn't something schools really did.

So it was chaos. Um So everyone was told to go under the library tables. Um, a girl next to him asked to go under his table because she was scared, he didn't know her. And of course he said yes, and he was comforting her and She said he was completely calm and peaceful. Yeah.

You know, the shooters just came around and sprayed bullets, and they also came up explicitly to him and shot him in the head.

So really Columbine that day was a lot of Good versus evil? And I I know society likes to paint a lot of you know, well, it's mental illness, it's bullying. No. There was good and evil that day. And I believe God was with John.

you know, when he was under that table and he gave him that piece. that he needed. And the girl he was with actually survived. Wow. That had to be Um And I I just can't imagine.

Um, because obviously you're hurting like crazy, your parents are hurting, your other brother's hurting. In other words, it's it's just Um And a whole and a whole nation was hurting 'cause You know, the whole thing was so shocking at that point. Um Yeah. I it it it really changed a lot of things. Right.

And so then Yeah, but that's a completely Like the What happened with Joshua? was radically different because You know, here was a life that didn't get a chance to be lived at all. From your perspective, right? Yeah, and I think the contrast too was kind of hard because we saw so much actually good come out of my brother's death at Columbine. Um And so it was kind of hard with my son.

It's like It felt like he just suffered and then died. It felt like, what was your purpose in that God? You know, I couldn't see it as much as I could with my brother's death.

So I think that contrast was difficult. Yeah, absolutely. And it's fascinating to me that I taught special needs at our church for a number of years. And, um, the one one boy's name was Joshua. And Joshua was um You know, there's people with special needs and then there's people with special needs.

You know, some have Down syndrome, but they speak and they function pretty well, and others, you know, are autistic, but they speak and they function, or some of them are nonverbal, and yet they seem to be able to You know. engage in life. But Joshua was one of those that was... You know, look like hopelessly in a wheelchair, so skinny you, you know, you couldn't even imagine that he was alive. Um And his head cocked back, you know, kind of with this device that held his head in place.

And he didn't He he couldn't speak, but what he did do was he tend to moan and scream. Yeah. And at the time I met him he was I think he was about sixteen. Yeah. And Yeah.

You know, I don't know that I ever saw Joshua r really smile or I d I don't remember an expression on his face showing me that he was communicating in any way. And so it it was a difficult student compared to other students, and often I would be trying to teach either in sign language or something along those lines. And Joshua would just begin to moan and scream. And It was really disruptive from my perspective at that moment in time, being the ignorant fool that I am, essentially. And I was just like, man.

Oops. And and asking the same questions like God Why would you allow this? I mean, this is just horrific. This poor boy is in complete misery, and he is just completely. you know, going through a horrible time.

Yeah. After a year and a half or so, and by the way, the family, every time they came in, they would go, Oh man, we're so grateful you guys do this. Joshua just loves coming here. And I always felt like You got to be kidding me. You know, this this can't be what's going on.

But nonetheless, we had a Christmas party. And at the Christmas party, you know, of course, everybody came and we always demonstrated all the you know Bible books that we'd learned and people would share Bible verses they'd memorized and stuff like that. And you know, when we began to do the the presentation that we had for the class, all of a sudden, you know, Joshua right on cue starts screaming, moaning like Yeah. And Of course, his mom Just jumps in and says these words which will forever change my life. Joshua.

It's not your turn. Yeah. What I realized in a flash was, oh my goodness. Joshua is trying to communicate He wants to take part in it and he wants to share. And what I so totally didn't understand.

was that, oh my goodness, And from that point, Josh only lived about a year or so after that. But every time I would just go, okay, Joshua, it's his turn. And when he did, he would let all that out. And that was his. I don't remember a smile, I don't remember but.

He he had He taught me a lot. I call him Josh for the giant killer. You're listening to the Truth Network and TruthNetwork.com. Welcome back to Kingdom Pursuits, where we hear how God takes your passion. And uses it to build the kingdom.

What a joy it has been today to have with us Ashley Glatter. Her story is more than amazing and She's got a wonderful blog that she's been working on for years, and then she's got an upcoming book. But it's all there at AshleyGladder.com. And so, Ashley We only have one about eight minute segment left, and I want to make sure you got said anything that you want to make sure you got said on the radio today. Sure, yeah.

Um, no, I'm just grateful that uh you had me on to share a little bit about my story. There's you know, only so much I can share in this short amount of time, but Um I just I guess I just want to encourage anyone out there who's been through the fire and and feels like they keep going through the fire. Um Just to keep persevering and even when you Don't feel like you can worship, or you don't feel like you can pray, or you don't feel like you can go to church. Keep doing The next thing, as Elizabeth Elliott would always say, um, just keep doing the next. right thing and Just keep wrestling and asking those hard questions and looking for answers.

And you will you will find it. You'll find You'll find God. You might not find the answers that you want here in this life, but. One thing I realized Is that God's greatest promise to us isn't to offer healing or wealth or anything like that, but it's to be with us. Joshua 1:9.

Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. And that's something I would like to leave with people, that he's with you, even if you Can't feel him right now. That's beautiful. Absolutely. And so the question that you You mentioned four or five times, actually.

is why pray. Yeah. Yeah, that's I think like Bible reading and everything like that comes easily to me. I really enjoy. Doing Bible studies and digging into the word, but prayer has always been a little bit more difficult.

And then, especially going through this stuff, it. It's made me, you know, ask the question: you know, why do we pray? Is it only for us? Is it only for? You know, just us to see, you know, name our shortcomings or.

Just for that relationship with God. And so I researched things in the Bible and I saw that. You know, there's many instances in the Bible where God actually does seem to directly. relate his actions to someone's prayers. Um And so I think prayer does make a difference.

I think I just changed the way that I prayed and the focus of my prayer.

So, you know, I'd pray for obviously always God's will to be done, but Like I said, not my focus it was really hard for me when people would ask me to pray Right after Joshua died, for things like for healing for someone or things like that. And so, of course, I always would want to pray for people's healing, but that wouldn't be the main focus. Pray, you know, that God would work through that situation, that God would bring those people closer to Him than they ever had before. That they would feel him and feel his peace.

So, yeah, to answer your question, I think prayer is extremely important. And I think just our focus needs to be on, you know, how God wants to use the situation and. Of course we should always ask for healing and for the things that we want as well, but always leaving our hands open. do what God might want to do, you know, in that situation. Yeah, I I hate that we have so little time.

I could spend a great deal. Um On that subject, as for me, you know, prayer is. Um it's where the rubber meets the road and even Bible Study is prayer. Because you're learning your lover's heart, right? Yeah.
