The source of joy is in the Lord, and believers should rejoice in Him regardless of circumstances. Praise is a sign to the world of who He is to us, and it should be a natural response to salvation. A personal song, a passionate song, and a public song are all aspects of worship that should be expressed to God.

Welcome to the Kerwin Baptist Church broadcast today. Our desire is for the Word of God to be spread throughout the world.

So that all may know Christ. Join us now for a portion of one of our services here at Kerwin Baptist Church, located in Kernersville, North Carolina. Psalm thirty-three. Thank you for being here. I know that on the Sunday after Thanksgiving, we always have quite a few people gone, but sometimes we have.

People in, visiting family, but either way, it's a good crowd today, and thank you. I know knew we would be lower, but not as low as I thought.

So thank you for being here and being faithful. Psalm 33, we're going to spend our entire day in Psalm 33. Today and tonight at our five o'clock service. Hope that you'll be here. And we look forward to getting to hear from the Losada family, but not who you think.

Jolly, where are you guys at? Wave at me. Stand up, if you will. And this is Jolly, and this is Nimuel's son. And so Jolly's gonna be sharing with us tonight a little bit about the ministry, singing a song.

And we appreciate them coming through and glad that they made it in from the Philippines. And if you, you know, they have very great connection with Kerwin, but there's a whole lot of people here now that they don't have connection with because that was some years back. And hope you can get to know Jolly and his family this morning and tonight. We're glad that they're here and continue to pray for their ministry. You'll get to hear more about it tonight.

Psalm 33, and our subject today comes as my title is I like to, if can, it comes straight from the Word of God. Rejoice in the Lord. Rejoice in the Lord. Psalm 33. Verse 1 says, Rejoice in the Lord.

O ye righteous, It's not a suggestion. But it's a command. Rejoice in the Lord. All ye righteous, let's pray. Lord, we love you today.

We thank you for who you are. Not just what you do, but who you are. Lord, we just finished a holiday that proclaims us all to be so-called thankful. Lord, I pray that you would help us to look into your word here in Psalm 33. to learn some principles.

about our worship. And Lord, we love you. I pray that you would help. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

In this passage, we are going to deal first this morning with our worship. The chapter begins and ends with this. And then in the middle, it tells us. um the reasons we have to worship. It talks about God's Word, God's works, and God's watch over us.

We're going to deal with that. But what we want to deal with first is our worship. And from this passage, verse 1, rejoice. In the Lord. How many of you are familiar with Patch the Pirate?

Raise your hand, a lot of you. And Brother Ron Hamilton passed away not horribly long ago. And I asked Brother Jimmy and Miss Ashley if they would. Um, sing this song this morning. Lord willing, we're going to have him sing it this morning and sing it tonight.

I wanted to kind of be a little bit of a theme. for our day. especially this Sunday after Thanksgiving. And Brother Ron Hamilton. Um as a young man.

Um I started having problems with Vision in one of his eyes, and some of you know the story. He ended up having to get checked out, and the doctor said, You have cancer. In Um this one eye and we're gonna have to remove the eye. And of course having a difficult time. With that, I would, I don't know about you.

And he, um From that. Obviously. They began to wear a patch and God began to use him in writing music. and he became obviously known as Patch the Pirate. But he wrote this song particularly, and you guys know it.

dealing with We're wrestling with the sovereignty of God. That even when God allows things that I don't like. The discipline, the spiritual discipline to rejoice. in the Lord anyway. Can I have an amen right there, Kerwin?

that when you didn't get the report from the doctor you wanted. And when it didn't turn out the way you wanted, and then when the outcome wasn't what you expected. that as believers What does this verse say? Rejoice in the Lord, ye righteous. That we are to rejoice in the Lord anyway.

And I want them if they don't mind. Um I wanted to do Uh the first verse in Course. And then at the end, I'm going to have you do both. Verses, okay? Or the other verses.

Is that okay?

So I want them, I just want to get this in your mind. And then at the end of the message, they'll come up and do all the verses here. Go ahead and sing it, if you would. God name. Without purpose.

Or plan? We're trying his servant. And boring. Amen. Give thanks to the Lord.

Though your testing seems long. in darkness He gives A song rejoice in the Lord, He makes no mistake. He knows the end of each path that I take. Oh, when I am tried and pure and bright, I shall come forth as you let's do that chorus, and I want you to sing along with. the words back at the beginning of the chorus so rejoice sing it with him as we sing Oh joy.

Voice him. The Lord He makes no mistakes. He knows the end of each stage path I take when I am tried and glorified. I shall come forward as gold. I'm going to have him do that first and last verse at the end.

I want you to look, if you would, number one. at our worship this morning. And I want you to remember this song. Rejoice in the Lord. Number one, I want you to see the source.

of our joy. The source of our joy. Notice verse 1. Rejoice in the Lord. Ye righteous.

Now, what does it mean to rejoice? Let me let me make a can I give you a simple definition? It means to replay your joy. To rejoice means to show joy. in a situation to replay it.

to recite it. What's interesting here, it says, the source of our joy is this: that we are to rejoice. In the Lord. Notice what it says, O ye righteous.

Now the world... might have to look for other things. For their joy. The heathen might need other resources to try to find joy, but the righteous should know better. Yeah.

Are you here this morning to say amen? The unsaved world will not know better. The unredeemed might. Be out of the loop, but the saved, the believer, the individual that is righteous only because. He has cloned.

us in his righteousness.

So ye righteous, That is talking to the individuals who are redeemed now and we are only righteous in the sight of God because Jesus has applied his righteousness to our life and our soul through the blood of Christ. In other words, this: the source of my rejoicing. is in him.

Now I am not a journaler. How many of you here journal? How about that? I am amongst friends. How many of you here keep a diary?

Thank God. I never understood journaling. Why am I going to write something that I don't ever want anyone to read? And I don't keep a diary because why do I want there to be proof out there of what I've done? If you've ever seen a movie, that's how they get caught.

Somebody finds their diary. Don't write it down. Yeah. Bunch of idiots. Not you.

You obviously you don't do it. I don't do it, but I killed my coworker today. Why would you write that down? I buried the body in the dumpster. Don't put it down.

We had Thanksgiving this week and um as some of you may or may not at times find yourself not real grateful.

So I decided I was going to write some things down this week. I Don't like to write. I don't get enjoyment out of it. I do it out of necessity for what I do, but it's not like I just want to sit down and just write, write, write, you know, kind of a thing.

So I wrote some things down when I began here: that the source of my joy is in him. I am to rejoice in him. I wrote this: that we don't rejoice in circumstances because they're fragile. We don't rejoice in people because they're fickle. We don't rejoice in money because it's fleeting.

We don't rejoice in ourselves because we are feeble. We don't rejoice in our accomplishments because they're fraudulent. We don't rejoice in compliments because they're fake. We don't rejoice in our own strength because We are Failing. We don't rejoice in our plans because they will only frustrate.

We don't rejoice in our possessions because they will fade away. And we don't rejoice in success because it can fail. We rejoice in the Lord because he's everlasting. Amen. In the Lord, He is all-powerful.

We rejoice in the Lord because He never fails. We rejoice in the Lord because He never sleeps, He never slumbers, because He loves us with a perfect love. We rejoice in Him because He came to us, we rejoice in Him because He died for us. We rejoice in Him because He was buried and He rose again for us. We rejoice in Him because He's preparing a place for us, and we rejoice in Him because He's coming back for us.

We rejoice in him because his promises are true. We rejoice in him because his word is eternal. Because his love is everlasting. We rejoice in him because he will never leave us. Nor forsake us.

We rejoice in him because he will supply all our needs according to his riches. We rejoice in him because he makes me lie down in green pastures. We rejoice in him because he leads me beside the still waters. We rejoice in him because he restores my soul. We rejoice in him because he's with me through the valley of the shadow of death.

We rejoice in him because he is my comfort. His rod and his staff, they comfort me. We rejoice in him because he anoints our head with oil. We rejoice in him because my cup is running over with his blessings. We rejoice in him because we will spend In eternity.

Forever. With him. I will dwell. in the house of the Lord. Forever.

He is the source of my joy. He's the reason. He's the motivation. May I put it this way? He's where I go.

He's the one I call. He's the one I talk to. He's the one I trust. I rejoice in him because he's the alpha and omega. He's the beginning and the end.

I rejoice in him because he's the lily. of the valley. I rejoice in him because he's the bright and morning star. And one of my favorite old songs: I rejoice in him because he's all that I need. What I'm saying, I'm calling on the righteous today.

You are not righteous because of what you've done, you are not righteous because of what you've accomplished, you are not righteous because of your education, you are only righteous in the sight of God here today. If you have put your faith and trust in Jesus Christ, if you've been redeemed by the blood of Christ, then you are considered righteous in the sight of God. And I'm calling on you today, and I'm calling on me today to determine that whatever comes and whatever comes down the pike and whatever's on the news tomorrow night, I'm going to rejoice in the Lord. He's my source. May I say this, you don't need anything else to rejoice in if you have him.

The source of our joy. Notice, secondly, We see the sign of our joy. What does it say here? Rejoice in the Lord, ye righteous. For praise.

Is comely For the upright. It doesn't say homely, it says comely. What does this mean? It means that praise is appropriate. For those that have been redeemed.

Praise is appropriate. It fits. It looks right. It feels right. It's what should be.

For the righteous. Amen. For those that have been redeemed. In other words, Our sign to the world. That Jesus is enough.

Is that we rejoice in him? Our joy is a sign to the world. of who he is to us. Let me put it this way: when you are not rejoicing, you are not showing others a sign that Jesus brings joy to your life. When the world can't see joy in us, then they have to assume that this Christ that they serve obviously doesn't bring joy.

Because there's no sign of it. Praise is comely. Praise is that sign. It's something that should accompany salvation. is that we rejoice in him no matter what.

May I say that our joy is a sign to the world that He satisfies, it's a sign to the world that He fulfills. Our life. It's comely. For the upright, let me just say, if I can explain it this way, it just doesn't look right. For the child of God.

not to praise him. Did you hear me? It just doesn't look right. for there to be a believer, a redeemed by Christ individual. who's not praising him.

It's appropriate. And that means that it looks awkward if we're not. And this world is full of people who have been redeemed. In fact, the churches are full of people who have been redeemed, and it just doesn't look right. This world sees something wrong.

You say you have everything in him, but your body language and your attitude and your spirit. says otherwise. It doesn't look right for the child of God not to praise him. It doesn't seem natural if we're not rejoicing in him. It looks wrong.

It feels wrong. It looks like it doesn't fit if we're complaining. It looks like it doesn't fit right if we're discontent, if we're dissatisfied. It doesn't look right to your children at home when mom and dad are not praising God through difficult circumstances. It doesn't look right to your kids.

Because every Sunday morning you say, get up, we're going to go and worship God, we're going to go to church and make Him do that. But during the week, we complain, we're angry, we're discontent, we're always miserable, we're fighting like cats and dogs, but we tell our kids we go to church because he's everything. Praise is comely. for the upright. It's unattractive when mom seems discontent and angry.

With the circumstances God has given its It doesn't fit right when dad's complaining about what God has done. Where it all seems to fit right. Is when God's people are praising. And rejoicing. Amen.

The source of our joy, the sign. Of our joy. Notice thirdly. The song of our joy. Look at verse 2.

Praise the Lord. With harp. Say, Preacher, what are you saying? I'm saying, every one of you today. Need to get on Amazon, order a harp.

This is what God said to do. That's called taking scripture out of context right there, all right? Megan Farrington told me the other day that Nick is an angel. He's always up in the air harping. But uh Dan Sr.

joke right there, Dan Sr. What is it being our song? Praise God with your heart. But what are we talking about? It goes through here about singing, about praising.

We're going to talk to it. A song is not just what you sing, it's your life. Look at me. When we sing here at church, This isn't a performance. When the choir sings, but when we have congregational music, can you stand and sing?

It's not like all of a sudden we turn everything off.

Now I'm singing. No, your singing is just. portraying to God what's in your heart. It's your life. It means that we are so full of what God has done that it comes out.

We sing it.

Now, listen, some it sounds better. It sounds better when some sing, it sounds better to you, it sounds better to me, but to God it's the same. When it's from the heart and it's sincere. It's beautiful to him. It means this that God should bring so much joy into our life that we now have a song.

It means this, that we didn't have anything to sing about before. But we have a whole lot to sing about now. You agree with me about that. Would you say amen today? May I say something about over the years I grew up on the road in evangelism?

I spent 10 years myself in evangelism. It's been part of my life, and I can tell you: the moment a church begins to get revived, the moment God begins to move, the moment barriers are broken down, and all of a sudden God has freedom in a church, one of the first things you'll see is that they're a singing church. They begin to rejoice, they begin to praise, they begin to sing. All of a sudden, you sing congregational music. It's just loud in here because of the way we sing.

But you show me a church that's cold and dead and dry, they don't sing. See, preacher, I'm just not a singer. You should be. Are you saved? You ought to be a singer, not necessarily from this pulpit, but you ought to be a singer.

I want you to notice first, he says we should have a personal song. Look at verse 2. Praise the Lord with harp. Sing unto him With salt tree. and an instrument.

of ten strings. A personal song. Look at it. Look at me. What's personal?

What do you mean, preacher? My song is for me. Yeah. I rejoice in him. I sing.

to him. Yeah. It's personal. You say, well, preacher, I'm just not much of a singer. I get that.

I'm not saying you've got to perform. I am saying that Your song is, God, you've done this for me personally, and I want to personally thank you.

So I'm going to praise you today, and I'm going to let you know how grateful and thankful I am because you've done this for me, and because you've done this for me, I have a song for you. May I say, when we sing, it should be unto him, it should be for him, it should be because of him. It's personal. You sing in this choir, you ought to be singing a hymn. You don't sing to Nick.

You don't sing to the people. You sing the hymn. You get up here, you sing a special, you play an instrument, you're playing it for him. You teach a class, you get into ministry, you're ministering to him. If he's the source of my joy.

If joy is my sign to people of what he's done, then my song should be to the one who brought it. It's him. I want you to notice not just a personal song. but a passionate song. He said, Sing unto him A new song.

Boy, has this verse been massacred over the years. People have used this verse to justify about any kind of music you want to think of. Really? We got smoke and lights and we're wrapping up there. It's a new song.

Yeah, it sure is. It's a new something? What does this mean, singing him a new song? It means this. But I don't praise him out of habit.

I don't praise him out of tradition. I don't praise him because I've just established a system. It's not heartless, meaningless, thoughtless praise. It means this: that every day, look at me, folks, look at me at Colombian Baptist Church, every day you should have a new song to sing to him. Every day you should have a new song.

You say, well, what do you mean by that, preacher? I just don't necessarily agree into that.

Well, can I ask something? His mercies are new every day. Our songs should be new every day. He gives us new blessings every day. He gives us new breath every day.

He gives us new grace every day. He gives us new forgiveness every day. Why can't we give him a new song? Why do we sit in church looking like we're miserable? Like somebody done killed our dog.

I've never seen the likes of it. Can I tell you something? We meet here corporately on Sundays, and this is what should be going on. God's been good to me this week. He's been good to Nick this week.

He's been good to Frank this week. He's been good to Scott this week. He's been good to Sheila, although she got talked into some pickleball tournament. He's been good to me this week. He's been good to you this week.

So why don't we all get together on the first day of the week when he rose from the grave? The reason we even have all these blessings is because he's alive and well.

So let's show up together, sing together unto him, give our new song unto him. He's done a whole lot of new things for me this week, and I want to thank him for it. Yeah, that's good. Yeah, I see it. A passionate song.

Yeah. It's not just personal. I am moved with God's goodness. I want you to notice thirdly. We have a public song.

Can you see it in here? Notice what it says. We sing unto him. Look at verse 3. Play skillfully.

With a what? Loud noise.

Now, why do you need to play loud?

Some of you say, when I sing, that's a loud noise. That's fine. Why do we play with a loud noise so that God can hear us? No. God can hear us.

You can whisper. And God can hear you. In fact, the Bible says God can hear us in groanings that can't even be uttered. The greatest news that anyone can receive is the news of the free gift of salvation found in Jesus Christ. It is our desire for you to know him personally.

Would you take a moment to hear this today? Every man is born with a sin nature. Romans three twenty three says For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. No matter how hard we try, we're not good enough to obtain God's glory. or to get to heaven.

Because of that, sin carries the penalty of death. Romans 6.23 says, For the wages of sin is death. But the gift of God is eternal life. through Jesus Christ our Lord. The wages of our sin, or the payment of our sin, only equals death and separation from God.

But it's only through God's gift salvation through Jesus Christ that we can accept him our Saviour. Jesus Christ paid for your sin debt. The Bible says in Romans 5:8, but God commendeth his love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. All you have to do is receive Christ. by faith as your Saviour.

Romans ten nine says That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. Verse 13 continues, For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. It's as simple as admitting that you're a sinner believing that Jesus is the only way. and calling upon his name. Bible says whosoever that's anyone can call upon the name of the Lord to be saved.

Have you accepted Christ as your personal Savior? There is no greater day than today to take care of this. Would you accept Christ as your Savior? If you have any questions, please give us a call at 336-993-5192 or visit our website at Kerwin Baptist Church. Dot com.

or visits that person at one of our three service times. We hope you have a great rest of your day. God bless you. Mm-hmm.
