It is the JR Sportbrief Show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. I'm coming to you live from Atlanta, Georgia.
Thank you to everybody tuned in and locked in all over North America. I hope you're great. I hope you're well.
I hope you are absolutely amazing. March Madness is upon us and we have already had an upset, upset, excuse me, congratulations to McNeese. They just beat Clemson minutes ago, 69 to 67. We got more to get into. We'll talk about all the matchups. We'll talk about all the games. We'll talk about what's taking place.
We got some games going on right now and I'll give you an update about those in a second. This is when the show gets started every weekday, 6 p.m. Eastern, 3 Pacific. Thank you to our producer holding down in New York City, Greg Frank. And thank you to you for listening on the Free Odyssey app, your local Infinity Sports Network affiliate.
You could be listening right now on on Sirius XM Channel 375. And if you got a smart speaker, ask the speaker to play the Infinity Sports Network. I mean, outside of the March Madness, Celtics got sold for more than six billion dollars and Stefan Diggs is meeting in New England and the Steelers are still looking for QB. Your bracket, your bracket is probably busted.
And then this is no news. This is the off season here in Georgia. The Georgia Bulldogs, well, they got a couple of players who are already having some car issues if we want to call them car issues. Yeah.
Georgia players arrested for for speeding again. What else is new? If you want to be a part of the show, you can. You can call me up at any time. 888 710 for ISN.
That's 888 710 for ISN. You can find me online. I am everywhere at JR Sport Brief. Of course, we're going to be talking a lot of basketball today, a lot of March Madness here. Let me give you an update on the games that we have going on right now. This minute, this second BYU leads VCU 70 to 55. Meanwhile, Georgia, speaking of the Bulldogs, this is the basketball side. Gonzaga is beating up on Georgia 56 to 35. So we'll keep you engaged and keep you on the know about the games and the matchups that are currently going on the next later games.
They're not scheduled to get started for about another 50 minutes or so. A matter of fact, to get us caught all up to date with everything going on in the tournament is someone who covers all things college basketball for the sporting news. That's Bill Bender. Bill Bender will be here in about 20 minutes to break it all down. Once again, thank you to our producer, Greg Frank, holding it down on the boards for us. Greg, how are you, man? Doing well, JR. How are you?
I'm good, man. How's your bracket looking? Is it is it done?
Is it cooked? Itself to a not very good start. But fortunately, the losers I didn't have going much beyond the next round anyway. So nothing too, too cooked, but still not a good start. And not a well, a lot of people, I think 50 percent of the country, their brackets are already kind of a screwed up.
So don't don't don't feel alone. And we'll talk more about that aspect of it later on in the show. You know, Elon Musk had this big promotion. If you had a perfect bracket that you can get set up to Mars, if you should choose, that doesn't appear to to be the case, especially based on what we just saw minutes ago, right before we got on air in absolute hilarious fashion. If I want to call it hilarious, McNeese went out and beat Clemson 69 to 67. Clemson only scored 13 points in the first half. This is McNeese's first ever win in March Madness is their first victory ever in the tournament. And what makes this even more hilarious is the fact that their head coach will wait for all rumors is supposed to be on his way to North Carolina State.
Yeah, think about that. This man is leading your team. He's coaching your team. He's out here playing against Clemson. And everybody knows he's I don't want to call him a lame duck, but everybody knows that he's going to be out of the building, that he's leaving.
And so what happens? Not that McNeese is going to go ahead and shock the world they have Purdue coming up next. But what happens if they go on a decent run? Is he staying at McNeese?
I mean, this is a ridiculous world. We know they're not winning the tournament, but imagine he gets to the Elite Eight. Is he going to change his mind and just decide to stick around or is he still going to head on up to North Carolina State?
Think we all know the answer about that. I don't think McNeese think they got enough money to go out there and keep him. So congratulations to McNeese as they knock off Clemson. The final score is 69 to 67. Now, who in the world would have thought that Clemson would have been in this position? The McNeese didn't have any by any stretch of the imagination.
I don't think they had any thought whatsoever that they'd be in this position. And a matter of fact, let's take a listen to the final call right now, courtesy of Westwood One Clemson with the ball down for 10 seconds to go. Front court, Hunter over to Zachary got a launch Baker three will go loose. Scrum, Hunter drives, lays it in at the puzzle.
It's not enough. McNeese for the upset. Let the March Madness begin. And that, that wasn't even the final score isn't a real indication of what this looked like.
I mean, we're looking at about two, two and a half minutes left, a minute left. McNeese, man, they basically led by about 10 points and Clemson kind of, kind of bled them out. So McNeese, the 12 seed knocks off Clemson who is ranked here fifth. And now they get to, they get to move on and enjoy whatever the hell is left of their semester because we know that's why the student athletes they're playing basketball.
This is just for school. They're anxiously awaiting going back to school. And so we'll see this on Saturday as McNeese will take on Purdue, which beat high point 75 to 63 and Purdue has its own issues. If you think about the past several years, they just been smacked around at every chance and opportunity upset after upset after upset. I mean, since 2016 Purdue, they have four tournament losses to team seeded 12th or worse since 2016.
Good luck. If they don't beat McNeese, they don't deserve to pretty much go anywhere. And so Matt painter, he's trying to get to his eighth sweet 16 as Purdue said, coach, he's hoping it's not going the other direction, typically other Purdue will will choke and be upset, or they will go ahead and move on. Congratulations again to McNeese and their head coach will wait who pretty much already told everybody. It doesn't matter what happens here in this tournament, it doesn't matter how much winning that we do. I'm not going to be here next year.
I'll be with the Wolfpack at NC State. Congratulations to McNeese. And that's not all that we got earlier today.
How about this one? Creighton beat Louisville 89 to 75. Congratulations to Creighton and coach McDermott. They got Auburn coming up next Auburn of course they handled business via shock if they didn't go out there and beat Alabama State they did that exactly the final score for Auburn beating Alabama, Alabama State excuse me was 83 to 63. But let's get back to what Creighton did. This is their fifth straight March Madness opening when Creighton is going for its fourth sweet 16 appearance and five years and yet they got their work cut out for them.
They got to take on Auburn to go ahead and do that. And Creighton was out there handling business. They made 14 of 21 free throws while Louisville only made seven of eight.
I mean that's a nice percentage but it'd have been nice to take just a little bit more. And so the free throw discrepancy and some of the calls they did not make Louisville head coach Pat Kelsey happy at all. A matter of fact this guy he was so upset in the second half that he got teed up got a technical foul. And then we got what nobody wants to see at any sporting event. We got a fan who decided to go rogue. We had a fan who decided to express their displeasure by throwing a full water bottle onto the court. Listen to this.
This is from CBS earlier. Okay, well, we'll get to that in a while. But anyway, nothing worse than an angry head coach.
We have plenty of them. And at that point in time, the team was also able to go on a run. Creighton kept things moving. Creighton went out there and beat Louisville 89 to 75. They got Auburn up next. I already explained to you that Auburn beat Alabama State 83 to 63. Jenai Broom had 14 points. Miles Kelly went out there.
He had 23 points. And we'll see what happens on Saturday. I think I have a good idea how things are going to go for Creighton. And it's probably going to amount to them getting beat by Auburn. Speaking of an update on some of the games currently going on. So much basketball.
Right now this minute, this second. Georgia is still getting smacked by Gonzaga 58 to 37. And I don't know if VCU has a run in them.
And apparently the way they've played all game, I don't think so. BYU leads them 72 to 60. The next matchup that we expect to get started will be in about 40 minutes from now. That will be Wofford taking on Tennessee. Some other finals from earlier today.
We have plenty of them from earlier today as well. We got Wisconsin knocking off Montana 85 to 66. We have Houston as boring as they can be.
No shock, no surprise. Houston knocks off Edwardsville 78 to 40. And then some of the matchups we have later on tonight. Texas Tech, UNC Wilmington. We have Michigan versus UC San Diego making their first appearance in the tournament. We have St. John's out in Omaha.
And what we already know is a packed field. We have UCLA and Utah State. We have Missouri and we have Drake. We have Texas A&M and Yale. Kansas at Arkansas. We got a full slate of basketball. We're going to keep you up to date with everything going on here in March Madness. And I had mentioned to you a few minutes ago about head coach Pat Kelsey from Louisville being ticked off and being unhappy.
Well, let's take a listen to him being unhappy and let's listen to this fan's response. Don't do this if you're sitting at a sporting event. That would have been a big one.
Terrence Edwards can't get the three ball to go. And whoa, that was a full bottle of water too. That was very dangerous. And it went right over the crate and bench. I'll tell you, whoever did that, you should never be allowed to come into this arena.
And it came from the Louisville side. I mean, whoever's sitting next to that person or in that section needs to, and the police are going up there right now to go handle the situation. That's a joke. It's unnecessary. You get upset about a call. So what?
You don't do this because you got players on both ends that can be affected by that. Yeah. Well, I don't know if, what difference would it make if it was a full water bottle?
I don't know if it'd make a difference if it was a half water bottle. I got no idea. What I do know is if you're going to a sporting event, if you're going to be participating in March Madness, you're going to be in any of the arenas. Do everybody a favor. Don't be a jackass.
It's as simple as that. Enjoy the basketball, but do not, I repeat, do not be a jackass. It's the JR sport re-show here with you coast to coast on the infinity sports network. Man, we got so much basketball to get into. We have so much basketball to discuss. March Madness is upon us. I mean, the already one of our first four teams has been given the boot by Auburn, not a shock by anybody. McNeice moves on, Creighton moves on. And so we're going to take a break. When we come back on the other side, we're going to have a chat with someone who knows everything about college basketball.
His name is Bill Bender from the Sporting News. I'll get his thoughts on this upset of McNeice over Clemson, Creighton's chances against Auburn. We'll talk about some of the matchups that we have coming up tonight.
Like what the heck is St. John's? If St. John's is going to beat Omaha, of course, but how far can they go? We had a caller last night who was worried about UC San Diego beating Michigan.
Is that a legitimate worry? And then also, by the way, Duke is going to be in action, not today, but tomorrow. And Cooper Flag is scheduled to play as well. Does Bill have them going all the way as well? We'll get his thoughts on the other side. Talk about the Boston Celtics, six billion dollar sale. We'll talk some NFL.
We'll get into everything later on in the show. It's the J.R. Sport Brief Show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. Bill Bender coming up next.
Don't move. You're listening to the J.R. Sport Brief.
It is the J.R. Sport Brief Show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. March Madness is upon us. We've already seen, well, a few minutes ago, McNeese knock off Clemson.
We saw Creighton beat Louisville despite the water bottle thrown onto the court. We got some beatdowns going on right now. The Zags are beaten up on Georgia 69 to 48. And how about this?
I think they might be running out of time. But BYU is leading a V.C.U. is 75.
Make that 76 to 66. We'll keep you up to date on everything going on. But to talk to someone who covers all things college basketball, he does it for the sporting news. Joining us right now is Bill Bender. Bill, how are you, man?
I'm doing well. Thanks for having me on. Absolutely.
I mean, what better time of the year to have you on than right now, Bill? Right. Is your bracket busted yet? I took a small hit with Clemson.
That was a popular upset, but you got to give credit for McNeese, the boom box, all that. You know, they say we're going to do that. You got to back it up. And they certainly backed it up today. I mean, that was a blowout in the first half. Oh, well, yeah. Well, Clemson only had 13 points.
Explain this to me, Bill. When your head coach is getting ready to walk out the door, when he's already told everybody, pretty much he's walking out the door, they just they just playing with house money right now at this point, right? Yeah, J.R., I thought, you know, one of it was you when you see a coach, the way that that went down, you're kind of maybe they're going to pack it in.
Well, or. Do what they did today, which the defensive end was really impressive in the first half, but Clemson only had I think they had like eight points to the first three segments. And McNeese seems dangerous. I think they're playing with a lot of confidence. You know, they'll go play a pretty good Purdue team in the next round. Purdue went good today, too, though. Some people were picking that high point upset. I thought Purdue closed well in the second half around that size and very efficient guard play that they have.
Oh, yeah, we saw we saw what happened. Purdue be high point seventy five to sixty three. Another matchup that took place earlier today was pretty much I want to say the appetizer for the entire day is Creighton knocking off Louisville. Creighton always seems to do well here in the first round. What are your thoughts on their chances as they go ahead and take on Auburn? Auburn looks shaky in the first half. Well, they got going around and I broom, but Creighton's an experienced tournament team.
They're in the middle. Good guard guard play. McDermott's done this a lot. Remember, they should have theoretically been in the final four a couple of years ago. So that should be a really fun, competitive second round game. And as you know, over the years, that second round game where is where it can get a little bit dicey for these ones. They normally win them, but they're normally compelling games.
And I think that will be fit that description. Creighton really came out and just rocked Louisville. I always make the joke. I miss that noon eight nine game every year on my bracket. But this year I actually got it right. So that means I'm going to miss Mississippi State Baylor tomorrow. Bill Bender is joining us here from the sporting news covers all things college basketball. Well, Bill, there was nothing competitive about this game earlier today as Houston won against SIU Edwardsville and Houston. It seems like year to year it's kind of the same old. I mean, they pass that ball around and take a shot and they play tough defense.
Coach Sampson always has them prepared. What are your thoughts about what they can do moving forward? I kind of get bored watching them.
I think everybody does, but that boring is beautiful in some ways. And they I texted one of my best friends early in that game. I was like, they ball people in the first round. And sure enough, they came out and did that today with that defense. And, you know, I think Kelvin Sampson, there's something to be said about having a team that can be a one seed year in, year out last three years.
And they take care of business in the first weekend. This is a very good Cougars team came out very focused. And I mean, Gonzaga, you know, I pointed this out earlier in the week. They've never played, which is amazing. And I am so excited to watch that game because of the contrast in styles.
On one hand, a Houston team that doesn't give enough any points. And on the other Gonzaga, typically, you know, they're going to get their shots up. Does that have a chance to be the best game of the weekend?
Possibly. Well, we have another matchup that's pretty much been set up. What are your thoughts on what we'll see between BYU and Wisconsin? BYU just knocking off VCU 80 to 71. Yeah, I think BYU is a really good team. They were really eight out of 10 at the end of the year, I believe.
So they get up and down. Saunders is a really good player. And I think one of those guys that can lead that March run, you can look at it as 40 news is proof because I'll admit to this part first. I did have Clemson in the elite eight. Bad on me. I also had BYU in the elite eight. I was sweating that VCU matchup today because it's one of those either or I can see those teams making a run. But on that bottom part of the bracket where Alabama is, BYU can run.
And I like that. They've had a really good season. Bill, when you think about what we may see the rest of today, we got it. We got a few more matchups.
What are you expecting? What game are you looking forward to the most? Well, you know, I'm looking forward to see St. John's play now. Here's the game tonight.
You got to stay up late, watch it. I mean, the Michigan San Diego game is very interesting to me because on one end you have a San Diego team that hasn't turned the ball over much, uh, leads the nation in turnover margin, hot upset pick much like McNeice was today. So are we going to get two twelves to win? I thought Michigan was a little under seated after winning the big 10 tournament. But the other end of that with the Wolverines, dusty may obviously took up a U to the final four a couple of years ago. And how does San Diego combat that size with Danny Wolf?
And a lot of soft golden. That's going to be an interesting contrast styles matchup. And if San Diego can get into the second half of Michigan, that's sloppy. We could have another upset tonight. Bill bender is joining us from the sporting news.
So bill, we had a caller yesterday and I gave a much simpler explanation than you did. And correct me if I'm wrong. I said, dusty may and Michigan are here us. Excuse me.
You see San Diego. This is their first time here. Do you believe that they're going to walk? Of course, everybody has a chance. Do you think Michigan is going to lose to them? That's not on your bracket, is it?
No, I didn't know. I think San Diego is going to have trouble with that size and Michigan's played a lot of close games in the big 10 this year and really had a nice weekend. Now they, the one thing that can keep that close to the turnovers, they have been loose with the basketball and uh, you know, that's something within the big 10. They did kind of steal that Maryland game. I like that Maryland team a lot. The way that they were playing at the end of the year around queen, they've got a really good center. They've got a really good starting five.
The benches and deep. This is the first time in a while Maryland's been able to say, Hey, they may be able to make a second weekend run. Yeah, we'll see what Maryland does tomorrow against Grand Canyon.
You had mentioned the St. John's and even thinking about that, that whole region of the west. We got Florida taking on Norfolk state. Florida has been on a, on a heater and they're not getting a lot of attention. I guess that's Duke related, but tell us about Florida.
What has kept them so hot up until this point? Uh, guard play and better defense than last year. I mean, when you're building the team around call, uh, Elijah Martin Walter Clayton jr is awesome.
We, we wrote a feature about him last week at sporting news. He has a little bit of a football background and learn from Patino at Iona and now he's, he's rocking and rolling as their, their guard play. But they, you know, when I talked to Tom golden, he said, one of the big differences is there are more efficient defensive team. And that is clear that you can see that when you, when you see that, uh, the, the possibility of a Florida St. John's elite eight matchup would be amazing for nostalgic purposes.
I was telling my son last week, I mean, he was watching Rick Patino yell at guys on the sideline and I said, he's been doing that since I was, I was your age. And there's nothing wrong with coaching hard, but don't you love watching the way that St. John's plays though. They move the basketball, they play tough defense. It's not quite the Kentucky machine he had in the nineties, but the way that he's been able to maximize the talent out of that team, I think it's one of the dominant storylines of the tournament. No question. Hey, when you think about having the, the transfer portal and guys being able to move around, I think this is kind of stretched out. A guy allows someone like Rick Patino to get another lot at life and, and stretch out that career.
What do you think about the job that he's done and how much longer we might see him given that you can just attract new talent every year? Right. And then this, this environment means he may do all right. Right.
Because you know, you have the portal and you have the NIL options. I thought it was very telling. And one of his podcast clips where he said, I'm not even recruiting high school kids. Um, so that tells me on one hand, it's short term, uh, on the other, you know, as long as we have Rick Patino is the sports better for it. I enjoy watching him coach. I enjoy watching Tommy as a coach.
I know they lost last weekend, but the Spartans get going tomorrow and it's another really talented Michigan state team around Jason Richardson. You know, it makes me feel, I would say it makes me feel young, but it definitely makes me feel old that I'm watching Jason. And I remember being in college, watching his dad, Jason, do the same thing as a freshman with the start. Hey, you and I, you and I both, Bill, I knew I was getting old when I saw, uh, what, what's the running back? I can't, the Frank Gore. When I had to see Frank Gore's kid on the field, I'm like, what? I'm like Frank Gore's kid is playing football now. So Jawan Howard's kid is out here in the tournament. So there's, there's kids galore. And I, I, I'm about sick of it, Bill.
I want everybody to get old and be healthy. But at the same time, I'm like, Mike Miller's son is out. Like Mike Miller's old enough to have kids. I guess he is. Right. Exactly.
And you know, but that's what makes it fun because you can point those players out and, and enjoy the nostalgia of it. But no, I mean, this is a great start to the tournament. I think McNeese sets the tone. Maybe we'll get a, another really good upset. And I think, uh, if I, the one I had eyeballed, I think tomorrow is Liberty against Oregon because Liberty, you know, what's hard to judge in the tournament teams that shoot a lot of threes like they do and teams that defend the three point line well, like they do. So I think if they can kind of bait Oregon into a three point shooting contest, they'll have a chance. Bill Bender is here with us from the sporting news.
Well, since you're talking about that region, let's, let's go to the East. We've all heard that, you know who Cooper flag is going to be out there ready to go. This is, I don't want to say the welcome party for him with the rest of America, but this is the biggest spotlight even playing for Duke.
What are your thoughts on, on what they can do and what they will do? Are we talking final four? We talking championship? I think 25% of America thinks Duke is going to walk away with the championship.
I know Florida and Duke are really popular and what a title game that would be if we get there. But you know, one of the, one of the first tests here for John Shire is I pointed this out earlier in the week that under coach K they were one feed 14 times and they won those games by an average of 30 points. So they come out and just blow the doors off. Brian, that's the first or not.
Brian, I don't say marries tomorrow. Yeah. Um, now if they do and go on this run around the NBA talent that they had super flag and some others, then yeah, I think they can absolutely win a national championship. Will they win one? Um, Florida can get in the way, but when you have that many freshmen, you just never know. You know, we did this with Michigan and Kentucky and Kentucky did do it. Michigan did and Carmelo Anthony carried a team.
So that's what makes it so fantastic. I hope people flagged 100% because why wouldn't you want to see the stars shine in this environment? Do you think it's worth him just getting a light run tomorrow and kind of sitting down, warm them up just a little bit? What do you think his usage is going to look like? Yeah, if they have to limit his minutes, I would.
Um, but if he's full go and can go and let them go, you know, and I think that's the thing that what impressed me most about them last week was, um, they didn't have them and they still looked dominant in the tournament and I know North Carolina pushed them, but what a storyline that's become after how good North Carolina looked the other night after being pulled, you know, you don't belong in the tournament because you're a quad one record. Bill Bender here with us from the sporting news. You know, one of the thing that I always like to look forward to is watching additional prospects, not just Cooper flag, but any prospect who might be able to move on to the next level. Who are some other players that we should pay attention to that we might see any NBA in the future? Well, I, you know, I think the Duke guys, obviously I'm more curious on some guys like Janae Broom.
I know he will be playing the NBA. I think so. Um, you know, the guys like that that can, can improve their stock over the next two weeks. I think he's one of those guys. I know, um, yeah, you know, Michigan state and Jason Richardson. I mentioned them earlier. Uh, I think how much does he improved his stock?
Does he end up going? Cause Michigan state hasn't, I know there's that stat and I don't have it in front of me, but there's, I believe Mike, of course has told me that there's only been one national champion since 1986. They didn't have a first round pick on their team or no first round picks on their team. So, you know, you gotta have one or two of those guys.
And I was very conscious of that. When I looked at the bracket, I mentioned Walter Clayton earlier. I mean, how much can he improve his stock? I mean, he's been doing it all year, but there was some belief that he couldn't play the point.
I think he could prove that he was point at the next level. He reminds me a little bit of Trey Burke. Oh yeah. Well Trey, Trey Burke had a little bit of a run, I think a little too small in the NBA, but he had a good run.
Oh yeah. And this is where guard play matters. You know, I always loved the guard play in the tournament when a guy like, and when I talked to Walter Clayton last week, he talked about Trey Burke. He talked about, uh, um, it was the other garden, the Russ Smith and Peyton Seba. And you know, I go back to Jamir Nelson. I mean, when you see a guard carry a tournament, especially an East coast guard, uh, that always gets a little more, uh, pub and most of that Jamir Nelson, that dude was built like a linebacker, had a solid career, uh, down in Orlando.
We'll, we'll see who emerges. Hey bill, thank you so much for the time. It's always a pleasure. Where can people follow you and all of your coverage? Not just now of March madness, but college basketball every time of the affiliate set.
Yeah, I'm at bill bender 92 sporting news.com and you can absolutely follow all that. I'll be here. I'm trying to keep the green mark.
I always use a green marker to highlight my mates and then an antenna trying to keep the pen off the table and not get too many X's over the next couple of days. But enjoy the basketball. I always love talking to you. This is a fun conversation. No doubt.
Always a pleasure, bill. Yeah. Try to keep that, uh, keep that paper green man. More, more, we want more green in life in a general sense.
So keep it green. Okay. I will. Thanks so much. Have a good one. You as well. Always a pleasure having a chat with bill bender. You can catch all of his work via the sporting news.

That's eight eight eight seven 10 for ISN. Speaking of green, we come back on the other side of the break, the Boston Celtics, their owners are hauling in a lot of green as they will be selling the basketball team for a North American record. We're going to get into the Celtics green on the other side. Of course, we'll keep you up to date with everything going on in the college basketball world as the tournament continues on. It is the JR sport brief show here with you coast to coast on the infinity sports network. Thank you so much to bill bender for joining us in the last break. If you want to call me up, you can do that to eight eight eight seven 10 for ISN. That's eight eight eight seven 10 for ISN. We're coming down to the wire here. Somebody else is about to get the boot out of the tournament. There's nothing pretty about this as a Gonzaga is just seconds really away from knocking off Georgia. Eighty nine to 65 is the current score on that one as those Georgia Bulldogs are about to be given the boot.
Pretty hilarious. Last night, having this conversation with Ryan Hickey, I don't have a team like there's not one team that I look at and I got I got a root form. I don't care. I just want to watch good basketball. There's not one team that I care about. I'm just saying I don't follow a team year to year where I went to school.
We were not no basketball powerhouse in New York City, Bernard Baruch College. And nobody nobody cares. Who cares? We create accountants and somehow I came out of there.
I am not an accountant. But Georgia is given the boot. So if I were to take Hickey's advice, I would be rooting for a loser. I'll stick to Georgia football, not necessarily Georgia basketball. This will be a fun one as Gonzaga.
They're going to take on Houston, who smoked SIUE 78 to 40 earlier today. So that'll be a good one on Saturday watching Houston take on the Zags. Mark Few always has his teams together, man. Always fun to watch. I like watching him in that is a documentary out when Team USA basketball Mark Few has been a part of that for quite some time now and watching all of these established head coaches kind of follow around. Steve Kerr is always entertaining to me as they can only be one one chief.
They can only be one one ahead of the show. And that's that Steve Kerr. So we'll keep you up to date on all the basketball as things continue on. We're not too far away from Wofford getting ready to take on Tennessee Wofford a 15 Tennessee or two.
I think we can expect Tennessee to go out there and smoke them unless we get another upset. But one thing that we did discuss in the last break were some of the prospects that we'll see in this tournament that will go on and play in the NBA. And of course, these college athletes are making a lot of money today.
NIL, you can go school to school, you can move around. They're going to be making a lot of green. Earlier today, we learned that I guess you could only associate one team with green in the NBA.
That's the Boston Celtics. The Celtics are being moved. They're being sold for a whole lot of green. They're getting moved for six point one billion dollars. I had to put the whole price tag out there. I couldn't even estimate six point one billion dollars.
This is the highest amount of money, the largest amount of money that a professional sports team has ever been sold for in the United States of America. I want you to take a listen to this clip. This is courtesy of WCVP. This is up in Boston, new Channel five in Boston as they broke the news.
Listen to this. This is huge. Sports Center five has confirmed that the Grossbeck family has agreed to the sale of the Boston Celtics with William Chisholm. It's a deal we're learning between six and six and a half billion dollars.
Chisholm has been described as a longtime Celtics fan and does have Massachusetts ties. But it's important to note, though, that this deal is far from complete. The NBA still has to approve of the sale before it goes through with Grossbeck and his father, Irv, bought the team along with their investment partners for three hundred sixty million dollars. That was back in 2002.
Think about this for a minute. In 2002, you purchased something. You only only buy it for three hundred and sixty million dollars.
Almost 20 years later, you flip that three hundred and sixty million dollars into six billion dollars. It must be nice. And if you're a fan of the Boston Celtics, if you think about the past quarter century, the basketball on the court, it has been nice. You have transitioned from the the Paul Pierce era. You moved on to a championship era with Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett.
And and then you had the stink and then you took advantage of how terrible and stupid the Brooklyn Nets are. And then you end up with Tatum and Brown. You convert those draft picks for Garnett. Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce were basically the gifts that kept on giving for the Boston Celtics, because not only did they physically net the Celtics a championship. They traded them away for draft picks and ultimately turned that into Tatum and Brown.
It is really over the past quarter century, one of the best trades and one of the worst trades for the Brooklyn Nets that I've ever seen in my life. The Boston Celtics won a championship in 2008. They won another championship last year. We know that they're the favorites to go out and win the championship again this year. I don't care what Oklahoma City is doing right now.
I don't care what Cleveland is doing. They got to go through the Celtics, who have more titles than anybody. At 18, even the Los Angeles Lakers are looking at the Celtics going, man, we got we got 17. Now we got to catch up.
And so it's a wild world. The last time a team sold for any amount of money this high, it was $4 billion for the Washington commanders. Now imagine the next team that gets sold or excuse me, the Celtics. Well, not the Celtics, the Celtics sold for 6.1. The Phoenix Suns sold for four. And so the valuations of these teams just continue to fly sky high. And the last time I looked, the Dallas Cowboys have a valuation of like $10 billion.
And that was like last year. And so God only knows Jerry Jones. This man is not sitting on oil. He's just sitting on tons of money. But we know this man, Jerry, he will never sell the team. And I heard the Fox 5 report that this has to be approved by the other NBA owners.
Of course it does. Why wouldn't they approve it? Because if the Celtics are worth $6 billion, they got more championships than anybody. How much are the Los Angeles Lakers worth? How much are the New York Knicks worth? How much are the Golden State Warriors worth?
You want to approve that? Because you want to go ahead and maybe possibly sell your team to. Congratulations to the Celtics. And let's see if their fans can benefit over the next 25 years like they did with the gross backs of the past 25. The Celtics going to be paying a lot of money to Tatum and to Brown.
A lot of luxury tax money to the J.R. sport. We show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. 888 710 for ISN.
That's 888 710 for ISN. We're going to take a break when we come back. I'll give you an update on more March Madness action. And I'll talk to you about whether or not your bracket is busted. It probably is. Don't move.
