And once again, thank you for being here. You want to call up you can eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven. You can find me on the Internet at JR Sportbrief. We've talked about Trey Hendrickson of the Bengals. The Bengals told this man, man, you want some money?
Go look for trade. Damn. We talked about Joey Bosa the minute that I got off air last night.
Joey Bosa was cut by the Los Angeles Chargers. And let me just say this. Hey, Chris, you can stop the music. This is almost important. This is almost important. It's still irks me every single time that I say Los Angeles Chargers like it really bothers me.
And shout outs to all of my people. Now I'm going off on a tangent. Why did that? That scared the hell out of me. We don't don't do that again. I hear enough of myself. Damn.
The fact of the matter is. We have enough teams and sports that got to move around. And I know we got a lot of people in Southern California.
Shout outs to all of my wonderful people in San Diego, all my friends and Dana Point. The Chargers don't belong in L.A.. The Chargers belong in San Diego. So nobody in Los Angeles care about.
Let's go through the list. The Angels. The Chargers. The Kings. Nobody care about all that. Lakers, Clippers, like nobody cares about all of the teams Dodgers. Let alone let's take a team and remove them from San Diego and slap them up in Los Angeles. Come on. Nobody cares. I'm trying to think about whether or not I want to stop saying Los Angeles Chargers and just say Chargers.
I think I might. They belong in San Diego, but that's that's long gone anyway. Just going off on my own little tangent here. Joey Bosa also gone from the Chargers, regardless of where they're located. So we talked about that. Trey Hendrickson. Right before we went to break, we talked about the new fancy contract that Dan Lanning got with the Oregon Ducks.
He's going to be around till 2030. They're paying him about 11 million dollars per year. And then for Bill Belichick. Bill Belichick, he just started spring games. Nothing new.
He's just not as grouchy as he was when he was with the Patriots. Who knows if he'll get back there? Who knows? Maybe the young lady will keep him young.
I don't know. Bill Belichick is starting spring practice. Everything that Belichick does for the first time as a college coach is, I guess, is going to be worth noting.
Good for him. In about 20 minutes, 15 minutes, 15 to 20 minutes. I'm going to talk some more football. We're going to get back to the pros. I want to have a chat with Mike Sando from The Athletic. He's going to come through and join us. I want to get his thoughts about all of these free agents. You know, I mean, yesterday I gave you a top six list of the best wide receivers that are going to be available.
I had DK Metcalf at the top of this list. And now with Trey Hendrickson allowed to pretty much go out and seek a trade and look for a new contract. Where does he go? What happens with Joey Bosa? I mean, we still got Von Miller, right? Von Miller. He ain't sticking around and going back to Buffalo.
So there are a lot of question marks. And I can't ever, ever remember seeing just a free agent class like this. There's a lot of players, name brand players, all pro players available here for the taking. An NFL free agency. The league year officially begins next Wednesday, March 12, eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven.
That's eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven. You can find me online at JR Sport Brief. Now, before I get back into football. I absolutely have to talk about this team. And this is the first time they have gotten anywhere close to, I don't know, this much time on the show in. I don't know, since LeBron James left. It's the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cleveland Cavaliers are running around right now like they are the best team in the NBA. A matter of fact, the Cleveland Cavaliers, they aren't running around acting like it.
If you strictly have to look at the numbers and percentages. The Cleveland Cavaliers are the best team in the NBA. The first team to fifty two wins. They beat the Thunder there by a victory. These Cleveland Cavaliers, after beating Miami last night, it depleted a Heat team. They had to come back and beat them one twelve to one oh seven. Donovan Mitchell, of course, leading scorer leading the way with twenty six points. The Cleveland Cavaliers have now won twelve straight games.
For the third time this season. It's nuts to think about them being head and shoulders above everybody else in the East is is mind numbing. I mean, the Boston Celtics are just kind of sleepwalking through the situation right now. They got a record of forty four and eighteen is sitting players here and there.
These guys are taking breaks. They like let us know when the postseason starts. But the Cavs well oiled machine. And so last night, coming back to beat Miami. They're just rolling. They're trying to stay hot to the postseason. They've added DeAndre Young from here in Atlanta.
They are just whooping every body's ass. And after the game last night, Donovan Mitchell, he was asked about the team and bouncing back in the winning streak in the playoffs and. Listen, that's the attitude, right? That's the attitude. The attitude isn't just to be good.
The attitude isn't just to go out here and try our best. The attitude isn't just, well, let's win 50 games. Let's win 60 games. Let's win 65 games. I mean, the more games they win, obviously, the expectation is going to be higher and more disappointing if they don't ultimately go out there and win a championship. The name of the game is to win a title. I didn't think that Darius Garland and Donovan Mitchell and.
You know, Mobley, Jared Allen. It's definitely a blessing. It's an honor. You know, it's a sign of our hard work as a group. But at the end of the day, don't really mean much. You know what I'm saying? Like, this is it's great to be in the playoffs. But, you know, when we you know, when we started this and when I came here, when we signed like this wasn't the playoffs wasn't the goal. You know, it's just another step, another another step on our on our journey. You know what I mean? And I'm definitely happy to do in front of the home crowd.
But, you know, we got a lot more to accomplish. That's how big he is. I'm taking video of this guy. And after his warm up, he's going into the locker room and looking at it on social media.
I'm like, man, why are you looking at social media? What I'm doing? You're supposed to be out there playing basketball. And then, of course, last year, this team goes into the playoffs and oh, the lights are too bright. They end up losing. Oh, we weren't prepared. We're not good enough.
Oh, now they come back. They whooping everybody's ass. And so with new expectations here. Also taking a look at their their incoming coach and Kenny Atkinson, who's had himself a sterling record.
I mean, he should have never got the boot from Brooklyn. Even Kenny Atkinson following the game last night, he made it very clear. Like, listen, folks. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's nice to win all these games, but our goal isn't just to to make the playoffs.
Listen to this. No, we don't talk about us. We're I think someone was. Yeah, we qualified. I think Ty said we made the playoffs. And but no one there's no like a let's give ourselves a hand or anything.
None of that. And even the first seed, you know, haven't really haven't really talked about it, but they're straight business because at this point, look. In sports, it is like three categories, really. They are the teams that are legitimately competing to win a championship. They're the teams. I got no hope in winning a championship. They're rebuilding.
Maybe they're tanking on purpose. And then there's just a bunch of teams that are just stuck in mediocrity. The Cleveland Cavaliers are a team that they're not quite at the top of the hump. They got to knock off the Celtics. That's the reality. And until they do that, they're just going to be looked at as like a a second tier team. We've spoken to enough basketball people here over the past couple of weeks.
I mean, damn it. Yesterday we had on a former coach in the NBA, Lionel Hollins came through and he joined us. He looks at the Cavaliers as one of the legitimate contenders for a championship in the league this year. With the Boston Celtics, with the Los Angeles Lakers and the Oklahoma City Thunder. Now, if you're asking me. Nobody and then we had a call to say this, and I found it a little hilarious. Nobody's talking about the Celtics, Jr. How come nobody's paying attention to the Celtics?
It's a real simple. For what? Like there is not a story about the Celtics.
None. Unless. Porzingis breaks something in his knee again. Unless Jalen Brown pops something in his leg. Unless I don't know Tatum, who's been ridiculously durable throughout the course of his career. I mean, the biggest conversation that's had about him is how boring he is and how come he isn't the face of the league like there's nothing going on with the Celtics.
Like there aren't even conversations about Joe Missoula saying wacky things because nobody cares. The Cavaliers people are looking at them and talking about their 12 game winning streak and this is the third time they've gone on a 12 game winning streak and they've done this and they've done this because they haven't won a damn thing yet. They have the team that you have to look out for. The Boston Celtics are like old hat. All they do is win.
They're all reliable. All they do is win. I mean there's a documentary on HBO Max or Max whatever the hell they call it now about the Boston Celtics. I mean the most noise that I think I've heard about the Celtics came in actually last night when you had both Peyton Pritchard and then also Devin White who decided to lose their minds. Peyton Pritchard had 43 threes or excuse me 43 points in 10 threes.
Like they were losing their minds. Between him and White combined for more threes than I think we've ever seen ever. And then Peyton Pritchard who's ever heard this guy speak? Last night at the postgame press conference he had an opportunity. Well Tatum was resting.
Listen to this. Unbelievable. It was amazing to watch because some of the shots he was hitting were incredible too and he wasn't hitting no rim just straight water so definitely fun to be out there with him and do it on a special night like this.
Yeah lots of fun right? Derek White had 41 points in 9 threes. Peyton Pritchard had 43 points in 10 threes.
And Jason Tatum all he had to do was sit down and just watch and take a break. The Boston Celtics they're just trying to ramp up. Chris Staps Porzingis has been out with a non-COVID illness.
The Celtics are back in action tonight against the 76ers. You want to know who's not playing? Jalen Brown is not playing tonight. He's resting. His knee hurts. His knee hurts.
Excuse me. And then on Saturday on ABC this should be a good one. Why not rest your players? The Boston Celtics are going to be hosting the Los Angeles Lakers.
I wonder why everybody is resting. This is time for the Boston Celtics to ramp up and congratulations to the Cleveland Cavaliers on going on winning streaks. Good for them. I know they got bigs. I know they got guards. I know they just got DeAndre Hunter from here in Atlanta. I know they're a little bit deeper than they were last year and a little bit more athletic. It's not going to be easy for the Celtics to knock them off.
But I still got the Celtics. I blame the size. Come on now. Darius Garland is not the biggest guy in the world. Mitchell is not the biggest guy in the world. I'm not counting on Hunter to go out there and just drop 20 and 30. Evan Mobley is going to have to just be dominant. And Chris Staps Porzingis would just have to be hurt.
It's a possibility. I'm still going with the Celtics out of the East. My apologies to fans in Cleveland. They need to find the positivity where they can, because it's certainly not with the Browns.
No, not not at all. It's the J.R. Sportbreeze show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. We're going to take a break.
We come back on the other side of the break. It's time to have a conversation with Mike Sandow, who covers all things NFL for the athletic. I'm going to ask him about Joey Bosa getting cut. I'm going to ask him about the reality of Trey Hendrickson leaving. Talk about the draft. There's a lot going on in the league and a lot of free agents. Mike Sandow on the other side is the J.R. Sportbreeze show on the Infinity Sports Network.
It is the J.R. Sportbreeze show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. Not a laughing matter if you've gotten cut in the NFL. Not a laughing matter if your team is trying to put together a contender.
Not a laughing matter if you're trying to figure out what your team is going to do to improve. To talk about some of the things that we've heard, some of the things that will take place in the NFL over the next several weeks and months as the new league year starts next week. Joining us right now is Mike Sandow, who covers all things nationally NFL for the athletic. Mike, how are you? Good. How are you? I'm excellent.
I appreciate the time. So much to get into. But I feel like and maybe I'm wrong.
There are just so many top tier names and free agents in the Hall of Famers. Do you feel that this is a first or am I missing something here? Just feel so unusual. You mean as far as becoming available or released? Yes.
All over the board. Yes. Yeah.
Yeah. I think that there's no one getting cut in their prime here. I mean, Devante Adams or some of these guys have entered into contracts to where they're not worth that anymore on the team that they're on. So the Bosa one with the Chargers was rumored a year ago that they were possibly getting close to that.
So I think each one's a little bit different. One of the things I think is a newer extension of things is when the team has a good player and they can't get going on a contract. Now it's, hey, go. You have permission to seek a trade. I think that's happening more even with some guys who, you know, Allen Lazard is not like a top player, but he's even doing that in addition to the D.K.
Metcalfs and, you know, Trey Hendrickson. That seems to be something that maybe was more of a last resort before. But now the teams are just saying, all right, hey, you're worth so much. Why don't you go show us what you're worth? Right. Someone's got to be willing to trade for you and pay that. Right.
That seems like what's happening a lot. But, Mike, you mentioned Trey Hendrickson and the Bengals, and we've heard from Duke Tobin about how they they want to retain all their big name brand players, both of the wide receivers and Burroughs already making fifty five. Do you see it as a reality that that Hendrickson moves on? Because realistically, they can't have all four of them on big deals, right? Well, Hendrickson's 31 and he's under contract. So the deal the question there is how much would they want to pay him on a new deal? I think that's the whole issue that it's not that they wouldn't want to have him on the team. It's just that at what age do you decide not to go to the top of the market?
He just led the league in sacks. Do you feel like you want to go to the absolute top of the market on that? Now, they are a different team than some others, too, in the way they allocate cash for, you know, for them. They may be saying, hey, look, we're going to have we're going to have to eventually do a big deal with Jamar Chase to keep him. Now, if we're going to do that, we're certainly not going to do a long term big deal with T Higgins because then we've got to top that. Right. So we'll do the next best thing, which is tag them, which is, by the way, twenty six million dollars in cash this year.
That's expensive. And now you're like, geez, with with Hendrickson, we're not doing all these guys. We're not going to have Chase potentially at thirty five million or forty million or who knows what it is. Higgins at twenty six.
And then Hendrickson also after we just saw the Max Crosby deal come in. Right. Are they going to do that? So I think they're kind of in a pickle where they're still the Bengals to some degree.
They're not going to go over the top. They got to please Joe Burrow, keep him happy. So, OK, we're not going to let his receivers go away.
And then Hendrickson's probably just sort of a. You know, the the odd man out a little bit least likely to get a big raise this year. Mike Sandoz joining us from the athletic, talking about another pass rusher, you had mentioned Joey Bosa. We know that he was owed a 12 million dollar roster bonus that he wasn't going to see based on his injury history. What do you think or what do you think is the most likely landing destination for him?
Everybody could use a pass rusher. It's just a matter of whether or not he's healthy. Yeah. So if we assume he's not going to get the deal that he likes.
Right. I think that's fairly, fairly clear that he's not going to get a huge deal. If he was worth that, the Chargers would keep him. So then you get into where would he want to play? Obviously, he's got a brother on the forty niners. You know, these are guys in California that have been in California, you know, so that's the type of place where, hey, maybe the 49ers it's a place he can go to win, be with his brother.
If you're going to take less money, is that the type of place you go? And maybe it's just a shorter term deal. Well, Mike, you talk about those those forty niners. We know that they've moved on from Deebo Samuel, moved him for pick. Are they working on a big contract for Brock Purdy? Where do you think that Brock, where do you think that number is going to fall in for him, knowing that they've had a deal for so many years?
Well, their first offer reportedly was at forty five million a year. The top of the market is 60. So I think you do the math and look somewhere in between those. You know, and it's a win for Purdy if he gets closer to a 60 than the midpoint of that. And it's probably a win for the forty niners if they keep it on the lower half of the midpoint of that. So what would that put it?
You know, he could be in the fifty four, fifty three, fifty six range, you would think. And that would to me, that would make sense for him because he has made any money. No.
Sure, you could press it to try to get 60. But what's the difference when you've made no money? Right. And I think he wants to be there.
No, it's a good place for him. So I've always thought that could be one that got done for less than the very top of the market, simply because of those factors. He hasn't made money before. Hey, Mike, I mean, his salary jump from just a couple of million dollars over the course of a couple of million years, his salary jump has to be it's going to be the biggest in NFL history.
No, am I am I thinking wrong? No, it would be because because in the past when we should they call Kaepernick making hardly anything either. But his deals were 16 million a year back in the day. That's not that long ago. But that shows you how far the salaries have gone up. So you're right. The ceiling's gone up so much higher now that and yet the floor is similar to what it was before.
So anyone going to near the top of the market now from nothing is going to have the biggest gain. He just couldn't have replicated that type of a game back in the day when the top quarterbacks were 30 or 25 million a year. So pretty, pretty awesome for Purdy to go from making like a million a year. Now he's making 53 tax.
Yeah. Tax man cometh. Mike, that's a different conversation. Well, maybe you get a trade to a Florida team where you don't have any taxes. Speaking of someone who's very familiar with California taxes, he currently doesn't have a team. His name is Aaron Rodgers.
Like what is what is is is he going to hang it up? He's not going to play for a loser team. Where could he possibly end up? Well, I think there's enough teams that are desperate. You know, when you look at the top of the draft, you've got Tennessee and you've got Cleveland. I think they wind up taking quarterbacks. So, you know, then after that, you're going to have teams like the Giants.
You're going to have teams like the Raiders, you know, some of those teams in there that maybe would need to get a veteran quarterback. And then we'll see what Sandor wants to do. Does he stay in Minnesota on a short term deal? Does he get something longer term somewhere else?
I think a lot of those dominoes have to fall. And what's different about this season is Rodgers isn't the first biggest domino. He's the biggest name.
But I don't think that he's, you know, as probably as coveted as he's been in the past. And one of the other things you've got to work out there is, you know, to what extent is he joining a team versus the team joining him? And when he went to the Jets, the Jets joined Rodgers. It was Rodgers coach Nathaniel Hackett comes in. Rodgers former teammates come in. I think that's not the way teams will want to do it now. Rodgers will have to fit in a little bit more on their terms.
So that's a process too, to see what the fit is. And maybe it takes time for Rodgers to come to that realization too. And Mike Sandor here with us from The Athletic.
It's the JR sport re-show coast to coast. You mentioned Sam Donald with the Minnesota Vikings. We know J.J. McCarthy is coming off of the surgery.
Sam Donald played lights out out of his mind until the final two games of the season. Do you think it's likely that he sticks around with the Vikings on a deal or did he kind of, we know he chopped his money down at the end, or does he just look for money elsewhere? I think it's to be determined. I have felt like he would leave.
Okay. And that maybe that's still the most likely thing. But I think he's also somebody who has, you know, knows what it's like to be in a bad situation and knows what it's like to be in a really good situation.
So is there a number there where he could come back and do it one more time? From the Vikings standpoint, you know, the players on that team certainly know that he, you know, how well he played that season. They would be kind of taking a chance with a with an unproven rookie who wasn't even healthy last season and J.J. McCarthy.
So there's things like that that maybe have to be worked out on both sides. I do see a path where he could come back. I don't know that I would do a longer term deal because I would assume they're still real excited about J.J. McCarthy, but it's a little more complicated than most of these are.
Certainly. We take a look at the team that's always competing for a championship. They didn't get the job done with a three p. That's the Kansas City Chiefs as they retool their offensive line, understanding that it's it's March. What are your thoughts on on what this team might look like moving forward? It's too early to say they're taking a step back.
Cano? Yeah, it's probably too early to say that. You know, everyone wants them to fix their tackle situation, but it's not like there's a bunch of great tackles out there. Now, maybe they you know, maybe they get one. You know, maybe they have some kind of a plan to even trade for one or or, you know, I think Ronnie Stanley's available this offseason. Short of that, they've just drafted a couple of guys, you know, second, third rounders.
You try to develop one of them. Do you go down that road again in this draft? You know, they're doing something. They're obviously going to pay some of their guys on the interior because they got rid of Joe Tooney. But, you know, I have faith in them having a plan. It's just not easy to find top tier, you know, good tackles when you're picking last in the draft or 31st.
Yeah, that's what happens when you are when you're winning. Let's talk about the teams at the top of the draft. So many conversations about the Tennessee Titans and whether or not they'll stick around at one or move out of the spot.
What do you think is most likely to happen? I would think they would stay there because they need a quarterback as badly as any of those teams behind them to quarterback. And I just don't know if you have that luxury to say, you know, we got the first pick in the draft. We could have our choice of any quarterback. We're just going to pass.
You know, we'll we got Will Levis and, you know, we're going to bring in Sam Darnold. Right. Is that really. Oh, my God. You know, the way they're going to go.
I believe it when I see it. Yeah, absolutely. Well, that's bad. You you you gave me a nightmare there, Mike.
Oh, my goodness. If you're those teams like I was, for that matter, you know, at the combine, one of the big themes was, you know, shooter Sanders, bad impression with these teams, you know, and all that. And I'm like. You're telling me that the top two teams in the draft are Tennessee and Cleveland and they're not taking quarterbacks. Like those teams in those situations, I think the odds would be quite high that they would. Well, let me ask. And the Giants are picking third.
Well, we know we know they need a lot as well. Having said that, you brought up Chidor Sanders every year. There's a prospect.
There's a player. But this guy's name is Sanders. That we hear bad things about him, negative things. It's just par for the course and trying to manipulate and get guys to fall down.
I've heard plenty of positive things about Chidor. Then you read negative things about him. This is all just normal.
What do you see? What do you think? Here's the truth. Well, I think he's different than most quarterbacks because of his dad being Deion Sanders. I think he understands how all of this works.
And then also, you know, he's also a product of the NL era, too. And I think so that awareness, I think Chidor Sanders is much savvier about how the league works than a typical quarterback coming in. And we sometimes see like, you know, when John Elway came in the league, his dad, Jack Elway, was a coach. What did he do? I'm not going to the Baltimore Colts.
He refused to report any manipulated the draft to go to Denver. What happened when Eli Manning came in? His dad played in the league, right?
What did he do? I ain't going to the Chargers. So Chidor Sanders, Deion, dad is a coach. Dad is not a quarterback, but he's not just a coach.
Dad is Deion Sanders. I mean, the man, right? Outspoken. And so I believe that some teams or some of these executives that you see quoted anonymously talking about him, they feel a little bit threatened by somebody who, you know, isn't going to necessarily be naive and just, you know, yes, sir, to everybody, right? Now, you know, so there could be a little bit of a fear of, hey, what happens in week three if he's taking a bunch of facts and guys aren't getting open? Do you think we're going to have Deion Sanders saying, hey, Chidor's got to play better? Or do you think we're going to have it be more like, what are they doing? And so I think so there's some people who feel like this could be a situation where not only is it Chidor Sanders, but his dad, Deion, you know, is he going to or is he going to get somebody fired, you know, if it doesn't go well early?
I think that's some of this. Well, Mike, let's wrap things up. I want to ask you about one of the teams that Deion played for. And that's down in Dallas. Yesterday, we got a contradiction from Jerry Jones.
Sounds a little normal. He contradicted his son about how aggressive they would be or not be in free agency. You know, last year to think about Ezekiel being the biggest name. And what what should we expect more of the same with the Cowboys this offseason or a little bit more? I think probably more of the same. You know, I think it's pretty clear what they want to do, how they want to do it. They did clear a bunch of cap space now, but I think that's, you know, just mechanisms of having super high paid guys and review the deals as they go along, as long as you think they're going to be productive. But, you know, Jerry hasn't been, you know, really pushing, pushing, pushing to add players in the veteran market. And they've done a decent job of drafting and they've generally paid their own guys. And that's what seems most likely to me.
Same old Dallas Cowboys. Hey, Mike, thank you so much for the time. Where can people follow you and read all of your work with the athletic?
Absolutely at the athletic dot com. Get the app. It's great. You can find me on at Sando NFL on X and just came out with actually a look through the top 10 picks of the draft through the eyes of league executives at the combine.
So that was kind of a fun, fun spoiler. I did put Chidoor Sanders going to Cleveland at two. So we'll see.
We'll see, because everyone's all over the place on that. Oh, listen, the Browns need all the help they can get, Mike. I'm just they chose a quarterback.
They went hard for one. And well, it just didn't work out. Let's work out. Yeah. There we go. Well, thank you so much, Mike. Catch you down the line. OK, we'll see it.
Thanks. No doubt that Mike Sando covers all things NFL coast to coast for the athletic. Pretty awesome to hear what what he had to say about Chidoor Sanders. He has Chidoor going number two to the Browns and he brings up an excellent point. When you think about the ability of just his last name and who his dad is, Chidoor Sanders can go out there and he can call call the shots. Or is Dion going to go out there and call the shots?
And there's so much more that comes with it. On a Sunday, you know, is Dion going to play the background, you know, following games in Colorado and Boulder? Or is he going to pop up on Sundays? Is he going to be known? Is he going to be seen?
Is he going to let his son go ahead and have the shine? And as Mike pointed out, we've had we've had cases of dads and fathers who are right there for their kids. You know, whether or not they've played in the league and their respective sport or not. I can look at someone like John Marin, his son or excuse me, his dad. See, these guys been kicked out of games on the sidelines. OK, Mike brought up an excellent point.
When you look at someone like the Mannings, Eli and I'm not going to no Chargers. And so, yeah, we can have we can have dads who are influential and maybe sometimes to a fault. I want to talk more about this on the other side of the break.
Is Dion going to be good or bad for his son at the next level? We'll talk more about this on the other side. It's the J.R. sport reshow on the Infinity Sports Network.
It is the J.R. sport reshow here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. Yeah, if I'm going up to Oregon, you don't need to buy me a beer. Dan Lanning needs to buy both of us a beer.
That new eleven million dollar per year contract through twenty thirty. He could buy the whole city a beer. Get everybody a beer. Get the whole state a beer.
Buy everybody beer. Eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven. That's eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven. Hey, thank you so much to Mike Sando from the Athletic for joining us in the last break. Mike came through. He said, listen, on my board and Mike talks to everybody. He says, I have the Cleveland Browns selecting Chador Sanders at number two overall. He says a lot of the talk that people have right now, it's about dad. Like people are scared of Deion Sanders.
People are worried that Deion is going to. Well, he's going to be a dad. Let's be real. What do dads do?
I mean, they can't hover. Come on. We got people listening all over North America. Y'all got kids. Y'all have daughters. You have sons. You have you have nieces. You have nephews. You have grandkids. And there is nothing worse than hanging out on a Saturday afternoon or Saturday morning, a Sunday morning. And watching a bunch of little kids run around or big kids, high schoolers, children, growing people is not high school is college is nothing worse than looking at adults, watch their kids play.
I feel like the adults lose their minds more than their kids. And so to that degree, we got to give we got to give Deion Sanders some credit for what he's been able to do with Chador to be able to coach him from a youth level all through his life. And the man is now an NFL prospect at quarterback like kudos to to Deion on that.
All right. And we've seen lots of father and son duos and combos over the years, just across the world of sports. I mean, just a couple of weeks ago in the baseball world, there's a conversation about Vladimir Guerrero Junior and what his next contract was going to be like. Where are the Toronto Blue Jays going to give him a lot of money?
Thinking about all these contracts that they wanted to hand out to guys like Shohei Ohtani that ultimately did not happen. Vladimir, let me tell you, hit Vladimir Junior. Vladimir Senior, that man was a monster. He like, I'll crush your skull.
I don't even wear baton gloves. I'll destroy you. We have other fathers and sons. Hey, Mike had mentioned the Mannings and then we got the Matthews.
There's so many families. If I think about basketball, you go to the Barry's, right? Brent had Brent had kids just and had one in the dunk contest. Who would have thought? Or Rick had Brent was in the dunk cause it was Rick shooting them free throws underhanded.
Nobody pays attention to Rick all that much. I feel bad for him. A great warrior.
Outside of that hockey, we had the holes, of course. You want to think about an influential dad with his son. Has there been a more influential father than LeBron James? I mean, Bronny James was in the McDonald's. He wasn't McDonald's All-American. He went to college, had the heart issue and all things considered for a lot of other people. He wouldn't have got the chance, but his dad is LeBron.
And so he got drafted and he got himself a seven, $8 million contract. Good for him. What type of dad is Dion going to be on the next level? LeVar Ball.
God bless him. Just had his foot amputated. This man had a taste of the NFL. He didn't play any NBA. He has two sons playing in the NBA. He has another son. I don't know what he's doing. I guess he's making records now.
Good for him. We heard how loud and boisterous LeVar Ball was, and I don't know, maybe it was strictly a matter of a health issue, but he's dialed it back since his sons got into the NBA. He's quieted down. Dion Sanders isn't going anywhere. Whether Dion Sanders is the head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes, whether he's moving on to another school, whether he's ultimately ended up coaching any NFL, something that he said he would not do, unless the Dallas Cowboys make the call. What is Dion going to do?
Is he going to step back? Or is Dion Sanders going to tweet on Sunday? Is Dion Sanders going to be sitting on his couch on Sunday after the Buffaloes went on Saturday? And is Dion going to say, my son needs to be in the game? Is Dion Sanders going to say it wasn't his fault? Or is Dion Sanders just going to keep it shut? This is going to be an interesting storyline so I can understand if you're an NFL team, if you're an NFL executive, if you do not really and wholly fully believe in Chidora Sanders, and if you don't fully and wholly believe that his father is not going to be the world's biggest helicopter parent, you leave him alone. If you want him, you got to take the whole package. You got to venture into the great unknown.
It's tricky. Everything that we hear, oh my God, it's Cam Ward, after Cam Ward, oh Chidora's not all that. Who wants a backup quarterback? And Dion Sanders, and I don't want to call it a bully pulpit, that's going too far, but wants that with the megaphone that comes with it.
I think the answer is nobody. We'll see what happens, regardless of what happens. Wherever Chidora Sanders ends up, we all know his dad, that man's nickname was Prime Time. Wherever Chidora Sanders ends up is going to be Prime Time. And if he ends up on the Browns, let's be real. They're going to be playing a lot of early games.
There won't be no Prime Time games. Maybe we'll see them on Thursday night in some ugly-ass uniform. But wherever Chidora Sanders goes, there's going to be attention. I think the best place for him to go is the Raiders. Dion has a relationship with Tom Brady. Tom Brady already has a relationship with Chidora. Is Dion going to respect anybody more than he would respect and get along, have a relationship with Tom Brady?
Probably not. Wherever this man goes, the cameras are going to follow. Let's just see how loud Dion decides to be on behalf of his son. It's the JR Sport Reshow here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. 855-212-4227. That's 855-212-4227. Would you draft Chidora or are you scared of Dion?
Let me get your thoughts. The phone lines are open. 855-212-4227. And speaking of father-son duos, one of the biggest stars in baseball. His dad played in the league. He had some words for Shohei Ohtani. I'm going to tell you who it is. The JR Sport Reshow. Don't move.
