It's the JR Sport Reshow here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. We all know we're getting ready for the Super Bowl. We're getting closer and closer. Media day, media week, media row, everything is going on.
But we have to talk about not just the game, but some of the business elements, some of the sponsors and the ads. So joining us right now is someone who's a columnist, an award-winning columnist for USA Today. It's Nancy Armour. Nancy, how are you? I'm good.
How are you? Happy Super Bowl week. Happy Super Bowl week. After about two weeks of waiting for the Super Bowl. We're getting a little bit closer and closer before we talk about some of the work and information you have as it relates to some of the commercials and ads that we'll be seeing. What are your ultimate thoughts on this game and the Chiefs going for this three P and the Eagles defense?
Come on, Nancy, tell me. You know, I know that there is fatigue with actually with both of these teams, considering that they've you know, they only they just played each other two years ago. The Chiefs feel it feels like they're there every single year because they pretty much are. You know, you can't deny that these are the two best teams. And it's something special to see this three P. I mean, we've never seen this in the Super Bowl era.
I mean, the Green Bay Packers had won the NFL championship the year before they won their first of two Super Bowls. But, you know, this is this is rare and we should appreciate it while we can. And also, too, we should appreciate what the season at Saquon Barkley has had. It is just amazing. And especially, you know, what a turnaround after coming from the Giants.
You know, there's so much history with both Jalen Hurts and Patrick Mahomes. So there are plenty of good storylines to watch. Like I said, I get it that some people are fatigued, but, you know, we're all going to watch because it's what we do.
Well, Nancy, you talk about that fatigue. And with these teams having a rematch, things are relatively quiet. There is no gigantic story. It seems to be that there's business as usual. I would say the largest theme have been people beating up on the Chiefs about A, the fatigue and then also this element of rest. And we've even had Raj Goodell kind of chime in. I don't I don't get it because it's a huge business.
They would tank the entire business if they just said this is the WWE. What say you, Nancy? I know I wholeheartedly agree with you. You know, are there concerns or are some issues with officiating? Absolutely. You know, I beat the drum a couple weeks ago that they need electronic spotting that, you know, the fourth and one call that when Josh Allen didn't get the first down in the AFC Championship.
Was ridiculous. And in twenty twenty five, you cannot tell me that there's not the ability to, you know, have electronic spotting. But you are completely right. There's no way that the NFL would would, you know, scheme this out, would script this out. There's too much money. And also, too, when you have twenty two very, very, very large and strong humans going out, you know, going at one another.
Good luck planning that, you know, you just you can't. The game is too fast. The players are too big. They're too strong. It's just nonsense. But we are a country that loves conspiracy theories.
And so this is a perfect one for us. The unfavorableters that are seen by our internal authors and presenters. It's hard to say what that means.
But you know what, they're not supposed to do. What are your thoughts on how a lot of these conspiracies and thoughts just permeate on NFL Twitter or on social media? These aren't conversations that people are having with their friends. It's like all online.
day. And I guarantee you are probably talking about the fact that the fix was in. But absolutely, social media amplifies it and it gives life to something that might have stayed local. It allows it to explode into a national conversation or a national wondering if this is going on.
So yeah, I think these conversations have always been had, but social media allows them to have a further reach and a louder voice. Well, Nancy, when we get down to brass tacks, what do you think is going to happen in the game? We're going to see a three-peat or do you think these Eagles are going to kind of put the Chiefs down? You know, the Chiefs have been living dangerously all season and I keep waiting for it to catch up with them. They do seem to have found their groove in the playoffs. And I think betting against Patrick Mahomes in any situation is a stupid thing. That being said, this is an Eagles team that has been there before. You know, I think it would have been a much different story if the commanders had won because it would be all new for all of them. Whereas this is a very similar Eagles team to the one that was just here a couple of years ago. They have some motivation.
Nothing is going to take them by surprise. And Saquon is such an axe factor that I could see the Eagles winning that. And I'm not just saying that because, you know, I'm seeing the Chiefs win. Well, listen, Nancy, we spoke with Hall of Famer Champ Bailey and he felt the same way. So I'm in good company then.
You're in good company with Champ Bailey. Nancy Armour is here with us from USA Today. We know that there's going to be a lot of folks watching the Super Bowl that aren't interested in the X's and O's or who ultimately walks away victorious. They're going to be looking at Kendrick Lamar and the commercials and what have you. I know you being with USA Today, you guys follow the ad. You have an ad meter.
We're in, what, seven to eight million dollars spending just on a 30 second ad. Yeah. Yeah.
It's crazy. But you're right. I mean, this is the Super Bowl is one of the very few events that pretty much all of America gravitates toward. It doesn't matter if you like football or not.
Doesn't matter if you're a Chiefs fan or an Eagles fan in this case. People are tuning in. It's a communal experience. And the ads are a big part of that. We've been doing ad meter since 1989. And what it does is it allows you to go on our website as of about 20 minutes from now, admeter.usatoday.com. And you can watch some of the commercials that have already come out.
You can rate them. And we have the ratings going on or allowing you to rate until one a.m. after the Super Bowl. So you can give your opinions on which commercials you liked, which ones you didn't like, which ones you thought were the best.
And we'll announce the winner on Monday morning. And it's fun because, first of all, you get to see some of these commercials even before they come out. But you also can, I don't know, it kind of gives you more of a stake in the game, like, oh, I really like this commercial. I can't wait to see what everybody else thinks about it. Or, man, I really hated that one.
I want to see if anybody else liked it. That's usually what I'm doing because I've not agreed with the winners the last couple of years, but personal preference. So, yeah. So I highly recommend it.
There are already some really good commercials out there. If you are of a certain age, you will love the ones for Hellman's Manage, which recreates a scene from When Harry Met Sally. And like I said, if you're of a certain age, you know exactly what scene I'm talking about. It sounds like a big O or something like that, huh? The diner scene. Yes, correct.
All right, Nancy, I'm going to check that out. I'm still looking for the Budweiser frogs to come back. If there are no Budweiser frogs, I'm a little cautious on that one. I love the frogs. They did bring back the Clydesdales kind of sort of this year. There's a baby Clydesdale.
And then you see the, you know, the whole team in one shot. So maybe like hopefully they're getting the message that they need to bring back the old favorites. We'll see.
We love the old favorites. Nancy, you gave us who you believe is going to win. We talked about the commercials. I need you to help settle a conversation that we had on the show last night. We understand that the president is going to be on site. We assume that Taylor Swift is going to be on site on planet Earth. Who's the most famous human being between the two of them?
That's a great question. I would say I'm going to say Taylor Swift because you have obviously the world knows Trump and I apologize to the rest of the world for that. But, you know, there are eight, nine year olds who have no idea who the president is, who don't even know what the president is or does. Every eight and nine year old knows who Taylor Swift is, can probably sing some of her songs and, you know, would probably beg their parents to take them to the eras, probably beg their parents to take them to the eras tour or the eras tour movie.
So I'm going to say Taylor Swift. Good deal. We know the security is going to be real high down in New Orleans at that that Superdome. Nancy, we appreciate the time, all the insight that you've been able to share. Where can we follow you and all your amazing, award winning work with USA Today? You can find me at USA Today dot com backslash sports and just search for my name. I think I've got a page, but I don't know exactly what the URL is for that.
But USA Today dot com backslash sports is the easiest way. OK, Nancy, enjoy the game. Enjoy the commercials. We appreciate the time again. OK, thanks. You enjoy, too.
