It is the JR Sportbreed show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. I'm coming to you live from Atlanta, Georgia. Thank you to everybody listening all over North America.
It doesn't matter what corner of North America you're in. You could be in Vancouver, you could be in Miami, Florida. You could be in, man, you could be in Honolulu or you could be in Anchorage.
You could be in a submarine somewhere. Shout out to all our service men and women. I appreciate you.
Whoever you are, thank you. I'll be hanging out with you for the next three hours. This show gets started every weekday, 6 p.m. Eastern, 3 Pacific. I'm in Atlanta, Georgia. Our super producer and host Ryan Hickey is in New York City and we've already talked about a lot.
How about this? Cody Bellinger, newest member of the New York Yankees. Yeah, he's been traded from the Chicago Cubs to the Yankees. The Yankees are like, hey, we missed out.
OK, we got to go ahead and bring in a million other people. We talked about some of the football action from last night, Monday Night Football concluding another week. Minnesota Vikings have a share of the NFC North. Atlanta Falcons are just trying to stay alive. A matter of fact, to talk about Kirk Cousins and what the Falcons need to do to stay alive, joining us in about 20 minutes. Who do we have?
Carl Dukes, Dukes and Bell 92-9 the game here in Atlanta, Georgia. Yeah, we'll have Carl coming on through. I see him all the time. It's going to be nice to actually have him on the air with us. There's so much more to get into tonight. NBA Cup action. I guess we got the final game. This game counts for nothing but a payday.
We have the Oklahoma City Thunder taking on the Milwaukee Bucks in Vegas. Hickey, each player gets like half a million dollars. Good for them, right? Very good for them.
I'll take that for one night's work. And we're going to talk about Giannis and I give Giannis credit. He's like, yeah, this money is good for my teammates and the coaching staff. But he's just like, yeah, you know, if you got to play for money, then I mean, at this point, I'm like, Giannis, shut up, bro.
Like, man, that's easy for you to say. Hickey, without me looking it up, I'm going to estimate that Giannis career earnings, pre-tax, because I'm not the IRS. What do you think he's made? A quarter bill already? I would say so. Yeah, maybe, maybe just honestly made. I will say maybe just slightly under that. Yeah.
And his current contract is probably a quarter bill. I mean, sheesh. Easy for him to say, hey, I'm not, don't, don't do it for the money. You got the passion. Don't do it for money. Okay. Give me some money then. Give me some money.
Simple as that. And then also, yeah, by the way, last hour, we talked about Mike Vick, hired as the new head coach of Norfolk State football. Good for him. I don't think we'll be seeing Mike Vick take on Belichick at any point in time, but might as well. Hickey, you think he's going to end up in the, well, no, there's no way to say this. Wouldn't it be cool if Michael Vick actually ascended, no disrespect to Norfolk State. Wouldn't it be cool if he ended up in like a notable school at some point?
Imagine he went back home. That'd be pretty cool. To coach at Tech? Yeah.
Well, my guy Brent Prye, former Penn State guy, so I'm not, you know, exactly rooting for his exit, but if things go south and that job opens up in two or three years, that would, I mean, it'd be very cool. You got to start somewhere, right? Got to start somewhere. And let me say this, not many guys would talk back to Michael Vick when he just point up to the skybox and say, yeah, I see that number seven there. Yeah.
I mean, listen, man, I know what I'm doing here. Yeah, I think so. Hey, good luck to Michael Vick. And speaking of luck, and we talked about this last night and today we got an update. Good luck to Patrick Mahomes. We talked about that high ankle sprain that he suffered against the Browns.
He was a full participant in practice today. Patrick Mahomes tried to tell everybody, regardless of whether they would listen or not. He's just like, listen, this is not the same type of ankle sprain from a few years ago in the post season.
He's like, I'm good, I'm fine. And I'd still take a look at the Chiefs, what they want to accomplish, a 13 and one record. Obviously, they want to hold on to that number one seed in the AFC. They don't want the Buffalo Bills snatching it away from them. But at the end of the day, you want Patrick Mahomes healthy for a playoff run. You want him healthy to help take you to a Super Bowl.
And if you got to take a haircut just a little bit in the regular season, oh man, you take that. But the Chiefs are like, hey, fine. We play on Saturday. We play again on Wednesday on Christmas. We just played on Sunday. Right now, they're all just kind of going, eh, let's just see what happens.
Patrick Mahomes, he spoke to the media today and he basically said, my ankle, well, it's progressed. I don't feel as bad as I did two days ago. Okay. Yeah. I mean, I think it's done good with the treatment and the work that we've gotten in.
I mean, obviously it's a short amount of time, but I thought we had a good day yesterday and we had good work after the game as well. The treatment, Hickey, what does that mean? Does he have a human rubbing his ankle? Did they give him a shot? They got him in like Norma Tech boots. They give him the treatment, probably all of the above, right?
All of the above, probably ice warmth, ice warmth, like every 20 minutes for like what, 20 hours in a row. Maybe he sleeps in a hyperbaric chamber at night. I don't know. Yeah.
Whatever it takes. Right. They probably got his foot in like a robot or something, right? Not even a walking boot, just the highest end walking boot possible. Yeah. Just the, I'm sure his leg is getting massaged right now for blood circulation.
I'm sure. I was going to ask, with a high ankle sprain, does like massaging that helps with the blood flow to heal it? I don't, have you ever sprained your ankle?
Not to that level. Like you turn it like playing basketball and stuff, but never like that bad where you can't walk. Hickey, I don't know. I've sprained my ankle. I think, I think I had a high ankle sprain.
I don't know. It was, I felt it up on, up on the side of my shin, Hickey. It was, it was not good.
I know doctor, if you feel it on the shin, that sounds like a high ankle sprain, but again, not a doctor. It feels bad. No, no need for any doctors to call us up by the way. We don't care. Hey, no, I know.
Hey Hickey, I know there's some doctor going, Hey, I got to call these guys. I have to correct them for the, you know, the, well, I don't know. Ethics or something.
I don't know. We don't care. The amount of Twitter doctors, by the way, that have just come out of the woodwork. Now every NFL Sunday is crazy. Well, we had a, is it Dr. David Cho?
He joins us, right? Dr. David Chow. He like kind of started, I thought he was the only one.
It was a niche market. All of a sudden now every single player gets hurt. You type in their name and there's just video after video after video, MD, you know, whatever. This is what happened. We all now know about the reverberation of the Achilles showcasing the pop. Hickey, now I'm an NFL doctor. Okay.
Start putting out videos, start charging people. Yeah. I know when Kevin Durant pops a kill. Listen, I can look at kneecaps. I, everybody's a doctor nowadays. It's a shame.
Modern technology. Look, Andy Reed, not a doctor. He's a foodologist, but Andy Reed, he gave an update on Patrick Mahomes ankle. Let's see what he says. Go through some stuff and we'll see how that works out for him. Um, and if he can't, uh, uh, work, you know, then Carson, uh, will take those reps that, uh, that Pat doesn't. So we have full confidence in Carson. Uh, if he has to step in and play, then, um, I think everybody coaches and players have full confidence that he can go in and do a nice job.
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. Yeah. But he ain't Patrick Mahomes. He's not.
He also hasn't played extensively in a while too. Ain't nobody like full confidence. Okay. Yeah, sure. Fine.
Picky. Now I say that he'll go out there and throw like three touchdowns and zero interceptions. If they felt so damn confident about Carson Wentz, they tell Patrick Mahomes to have a seat. Don't you think? Oh, absolutely.
Wouldn't even be a discussion. Oh my goodness. And you know who would sign him if he balls out. What do you call Carson Wentz?
Yeah. If he goes out there to 53 touchdowns, no interceptions plays well. And like one game, the homes comes back for the Christmas day game.
So it's a small sample size. You know, who's signing them? Uh, uh, no, I don't tell me your squad, the jets, the jets would absolutely next year, next year.
Absolutely. No later. Aaron Rogers. We're too far away to draft a quarterback. Carson Wentz.
Come on down. You, you know, what's hilarious. The New York jets.
And I, I understand partially, but not really. I think it's Bush league when T when loser ass teams announce who they interview, right? Hey, I opened up my phone yesterday and I S and God bless him. Thomas Dimitrov. We've had him here on the show.
Great guy. Now he's working in an analytics and data and all this stuff. Former GM helped construct the Falcons that went to the super bowl.
We know what happened when they got there. But the jets, they put a photo of him up on Instagram and it's just like, we have concluded our interview process with Thomas Dimitrov and it's just like, who cares? Like what's the point of this to get other people hyped up, by the way, the New York jets can't talk to somebody working on another team because the NFL season is going on right now. And so they can talk to Lou Riddick and all these other dudes who are not currently working for an NFL team or franchise.
But it just comes across to me as just like real pathetic when you got, Hey, we, we interview this, just hire somebody it's December, get through now, get through the regular season, hire a GM and keep it moving. Nicky. Am I, am I, I sound like a jerk when I say that, like, why are we in that? You're a loser.
No, you're not wrong. Um, and it's also funny speaking of not only Thomas Dimitrov, do you see who else they interviewed in this early first round? Oh my God. Who? John Robinson, former Titans GM, which would signal if they hired him, you know, name this was popular. Oh no, no, no. I was going to say Mike Vrabel has been rumored right to maybe be interested. I think you can kiss that one.
Goodbye. If you hire John Robinson as your next GM. Listen, man, New York jets are dumb. They're just stupid.
It's just dumb. So you don't want any, so you just want to wake up one morning, let's just call it January 17th. And you just want to say, here's who were hired.
That's it. You don't want to know the process. You don't want to know who's interviewing the first interview. Second interview.
I think the public knows, but I think you make a mockery of yourself when you go on social media and announce that you interviewed somebody because then you also set yourself up for further scrutiny when you go, Hey, yeah, we interviewed these 10 people. We still don't have a GM. And then you start going, well, what are y'all doing? Like they were already mocked for bringing in Mike Tannenbaum, a former guy who they had running the team to help find the next guy. Like just, just do it. The rumors, the news is out there. They can utilize all the reporters, which they've done already to kind of get the messaging out there.
You don't formally need to kind of, and that's a slap in the face to the fans. Hey, we've been so bad. We're hiring yet another GM. And now look at the next five to 10 general managers we're talking to, which more than likely we're going to have to fire in another five years. It's just, just, just, we all know who y'all are talking to.
We all read the reports, just hire somebody. That's just a slap in the face. Poor New York jet fans. Not me though.
Hickey. I enjoy the pain. I know you do.
You're a rare breed. Yeah, I enjoy. I'm here for the dysfunction. So yeah, just, you know, they just, Hey, we're interviewing Bo's older clown for the GM spot. It'd be like, great.
He might do a better job than some of the other guys you've had in here more recently. Anyway, the New York, Hickey, what are the New York jets going to do in a couple of weeks? Are they playing football? No. Okay. No, no, no. Making sure. You think they're playing football?
No, no. I'm just, just trying to balance out the fact that they're a bunch of bums and the chiefs got a quarterback. They're going to be playing until maybe February. It's just New York jets don't know what February football is, man.
Oh my God. It's sad. I guess they've never played a game in February, right?
Considering that 1969 that was brought in January and 14, 14 games, I think at that point in time too. Yeah. Wow. That's pretty crazy. Yeah. They don't know what, what January football is more recently either.
That's also true. It's been about what 13 years now. It feels like, Oh my God. Huh? If you don't count that final week or two now extended at the regular season, thank God for that.
Otherwise jets fans are not no jet. Wow. That's crazy.
February or January football. My goodness. There are people going into high school. Is it high school? Right?
That's how old you got to be 13 for high school. I think. Yeah. Yeah. No, no. Wait, wait, wait, wait.
Yeah. 13 to 14. You start high school.
There are people getting ready to go to high school. I've never seen the jets in the playoffs. Think about that.
Not once crazy. It's kids walking around going, dad, why do you like the jets? It's like, Oh, well there was a guy, you know, Joe Namath. Well, great-granddad, I guess at this point, it's sheesh. It was pretty sad.
Yeah. My jets fandom was passed down from my uncle watching the sack exchange. I had to inherit that. It stinks. How come they couldn't root for the giants? Like you, why me? Well, I mean, you wouldn't, you would have two super roles, so that kind of makes up for it.
But right now, I mean, I honestly don't know who you would rather root for. Oh yeah. None of the giants have a banner flying over the stadium. That's some jet stuff right there. Yeah. That's ugly. Yeah.
Well, at least they all play in the same dump. How about that? MetLife, whatever. Misery for everybody. Yeah. They might as well call it misery field and not MetLife.
Oh my God. Hickey people were asking me, Hey, I want to come to Atlanta and see the giants play the Falcons. Can you give me some tickets? I'm just like, do you, you really want that?
I don't think it's going to be a hard ticket to get. So you figured out yourself. It's just, just wild, wild stuff. You know what? We're going to talk more Patrick Mahomes and more Andy Reid. You know, I want to talk about some good quarterbacks too, not just all the miserable ones that are getting benched. And so we got a lot more to do as we continue on with the show.
I want to talk about Caleb Williams and Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson. Of course, I want to get into the NBA cup. They're going to tip off in about, let's say an hour from now in Las Vegas, shout out to everybody who got money on the game between OKC and the Milwaukee Bucks. We got a lot to do, but we are going to take a break.
We come back on the other side. It's time for a chat with Carl Dukes. Carl Dukes. You can catch him here Sunday mornings on the infinity sports network, talking to the entire country. You can listen to him weekdays in Atlanta, Georgia, 92, nine the game Dukes and bell. I'm going to ask him about the Falcons.
I'm going to ask him about Kirk because I'm going to ask him about Mike Vick. I'm going to dive deeper with Carl Dukes on the other side of the break. It's the JR sport re-show here with you coast to coast on the infinity sports network. You're listening to the JR sport brief.
It is the JR sport re-show here with you coast to coast on the infinity sports network. Man, we're winding down the NFL regular season. We got Monday night football double headers. Ain't all, ain't all that pretty.
How about that? And last night, American, one of the games had to sit down and watch just a Kirk cousins still going in the wrong direction. At least the Falcons walked away with a victory against the Raiders last night, but the Falcons, they invested a lot into Kirk cousins. They put some draft capital and eighth overall spot and bringing in panics. And where the hell does this lead them in a division that they should honestly win, but they're not at least for right now to talk about what's going on with the Falcons, what's going on with Kirk, what they should do, what their future looks like is someone who covers them right here in Atlanta, George. You can catch them here Sundays on the infinity sports networking, catch them in Atlanta the afternoon, 92, nine, the game Dukes and bell.
It is called Dukes. Carl, how are you, man? Put them up. What's going on, JR? Man, listen, they need to bench cousins. That's what they need to do. Let's just jump in and talk about this. They need to bench him. They need to play panics on Sunday against the hapless giants and get this city invigorated again, because right now everybody's lost interest because of the way Kirk cousins is playing.
It's not that he's playing terrible, but he's not playing great. And last night was a prime example. I know you probably fell asleep, didn't you?
No, no. I sat down and watched the end because I wanted to see if Ritter would come back and beat his old team. There was a possibility. There was a possibility. There was at the end and it should never have come to that.
I mean, they had two plays to possibly win it. Bottom line is, and I know, JR, you've been talking about what Rahim said today, which is being noncommittal for the first time all season on Kirk Cousins. And listen, we get a chance to talk to Coach every week.
We have him on our show and we're at Fly Branch on Wednesdays usually. Today, he spoke to the media and that was kind of the news. This is the first time he said, hey, Kirk Cousins is our quarterback, Sunday and beyond. And he's been pretty adamant about it.
Today, that was not the case. He said they're looking at everything and he was noncommittal. So does it mean Pinnix is going to start?
Don't know, but it does mean that they're talking about it. Carl Deuce is joining us here from 92-9 the game in Atlanta, Georgia. When you talk about the job that Rahim Morris has done, we know this is his second time here, full time back again. What do you think about the job he's done so far this year?
Because the team as an overall, it's disappointed from top to bottom. Well, listen, I think everybody, I shouldn't say everybody. A lot of people were excited about the idea of Rahim coming in here. He's got an infectious personality. Guys love him as far as players. But, you know, this is still a quarterback league, man. And when you make a commitment to Kirk Cousins and you do what they did and paying him basically $100 million, you know, for the first three years and paid him a lot of upfront money, you are now tied to him. And then you go out and draft a Michael Pinnix and everybody says, okay, well, when is he going to play? And you tell us that, you know, that the public and Falcons fans, hey, he'll play in a few years.
It's kind of like, whoa, what's going on? I don't know how good Michael Pinnix is. I saw him at camp. I think the kid has a great arm. I think he has a lot of upside and potential, but you know what potential means they are?
You haven't done anything. So I don't know how good he's going to be. What I do know is they got a veteran quarterback who came in here and got people excited, throwing for over 500 yards early in the season.
You know, it was the player of the week and the NFC twice. And you said, Hey, this team can go somewhere. They're six and three. And this thing is completely falling apart. So to answer your question, um, yes, they have underachieved. This division should have been wrapped up three weeks ago. I mean, four weeks ago when they played the same game, blew a game against new Orleans. So I just feel like, you know, with the division games early in the season, they had a real chance to just kind of run away with this thing.
And now they're fighting for their lives. Well, if we get down to brass sacks, regardless of whether they get into the post-season or not, nobody's looking at these Falcons and going, Oh my God, they're going to, they're going to go on some type of run. And people are already starting to think about the off season. You had mentioned the amount of money, $180 million committed to Kirk cousins.
We know about panics. What does the off season look like? Yeah, we got a few more games to kind of, you know, branch out here, but they got to still make a decision. Well, listen, I think that is going to be decided between now and the next three weeks. I mean, if you're talking about, are they going to start clinics earlier than they anticipated, there's a real chance for that. You're in this business to win games.
You're not in this business to prolong careers or make people feel good. So Raheem and this entire staff and everybody in the front office understands that the public and the fans won't tolerate it either because again, what are we waiting on? It's seven years now since this team's been in the post season.
Um, and it seems like forever, you know, ago when that super bowl happened that nobody wants to talk about. So at the end of the day, I think the off season is going to be very interesting, but it could all be decided before the end of the season. If Michael panics is planning these next few weeks, there's your off season. It's a done deal. You're not going back to, to Kirk cousins. If cousins is playing and plays well, and he does something that potentially in the playoffs, if they get in, then it remains the plan, which was, Hey, panics was available, but he's not our guy quite yet. And now let's continue to improve our team in other areas. That's really what's going to happen here, but I think Jr, this is going to be decided in the next few weeks.
Carl Dukes is joining us from 92, nine to game in Atlanta, Georgia. When it comes down to free agency and the off season, more recently, it seems that the Falcons, they, they get a hit or they get a mess. You know, you get a big hit in a Bates and, but then you look at the money.
What happens with that cash? How does this, how would this potentially hamstring of the Falcons? If they have to tell Kirk cousins, Hey man, you gotta take a back seat. Well, listen, if you have to take a cap hit and sometimes you do, um, you do what's best for the organization. And the good news is the cap continues to go up. I don't want to be this guy, but I rarely have cap conversations because one is too damn complicated to nobody really knows the rules of the cap. And three, you guys tell me what team has never kept a guy that they wanted to keep due to the cap. It doesn't happen. You let a guy go because it's time they're old or they can't play. It's never because they can't pay them. Isn't it funny how this money is always found?
Oh, CD lamb. He wants X amount of dollars. The Cowboys can't pay him. Boom. He gets his deal.
It never fails. So if you got to take a cap hit, take it. But I don't think that's going to be the deciding factor. I think this is going to come down to who gives us the best chance to win. And can we win with Kirk cousins beyond this season?
And if we can't, we've got to examine it. I also get back to this three years, a hundred million, not one 80. And I only say that Jr because that's the money that is guaranteed the fourth year of this deal. There's no guaranteed money.
You walk away. I think it's a $10 million cap hit in today's NFL. That's nothing. So really you've got this year, which you've already paid next year, right?
I think it's 45. So it's three years at basically, you know, 40 million plus. I'm just telling you, if you said to me, Hey, we're going to have to eat that last year.
You do it. We've seen teams have to do that. And I don't think his trade viability is going to be anywhere where you can move him.
So it might be something that they have to think about. Hey, Carl, I want to, I want to switch gears just a little bit and talk about someone who was a quarterback here in Atlanta, Georgia. We got a lot of people who still opine for him to come back. He's way past his time, but we learned just a couple hours ago that Mike Vick is now the latest ex-athlete, younger athlete to go out and coach.
He's now the head coach of Norfolk state. What do you think about how Mike will perform as a coach? Yeah, there's a lot that goes into it, but his temperament and his background seems that it'll do him well. I agree. Listen, Mike Vick is a very likable guy for those people who never had a chance to meet him and maybe just have seen him from afar.
Yes. He was one of the most amazing athletes in sports history, but I think Mike through his life and trials and tribulations has learned a lot and has become an incredible man. And, and I think that the attraction here, Jr. is what we've seen with prime. It's what we've seen with Eddie George.
It's what we've seen with all these different former brand names, no matter how big they were, whether they're hall of famers or not, that there's an attraction to say, Hey, how do we bring more attention to our program? Whether Mike Vick can coach? I have no idea whether he can, you know, put a staff together and they can be successful. Like, uh, you know, prime is in Colorado.
I don't know, but everybody now is clamoring to this and give prime credit. He opened this door. Nobody was hiring black coaches with no damn coaching experience.
Okay. At major universities prior to Dion going, I'm going to go to Jackson state and then I'm going to leave and go to Colorado, which is a job nobody wanted. So I think this is kind of like, Hey, this door's been opened.
What can we do and how do these guys bring more attention to our program? And let me tell you something. If Mike Vick walks in to your room and you're thinking about going there, you're going to think about it hard. And I think that that's the appeal, but I wish him nothing but the best, man.
I just don't know. We didn't know if Dion can coach and now we think he's pretty damn good. Well, you talk about Dion, Carl, and I mean, he just helped produce a Heisman award winner, Travis Hunter, who's from here in the Atlanta area up in Solani. What are your thoughts on what he's been able to do? And now there's even, unfortunately for him, he wins the Heisman. There's so much more conversation about his personal life. How do you think all of this is going to translate for him into the next level? For Travis Hunter?
Yes. Well, listen, he's an unbelievable player. I've never, you know, seen anybody. And I covered Charles what's in all these guys that were quote unquote, two way players, not like this. Like this dude don't come off the field. It's a different animal now in the NFL. What's interesting is how teams will view him. Is he a better wide receiver or a better DB? Is he going to say, I want to play wide receiver? Cause I see these guys making 35 and $40 million compared to what the DBs are making.
I don't know. Or our team's going to say you can do both sort of like what Dion did in his day. I think Travis Hunter is going to have a major impact to wherever he ends up. He's got a great attitude, comes from a great family. We talked about this when he was here and everybody was like, how is he leaving the state of Georgia? Originally guys, he was, you know, going to go, I believe the Florida state. And then, you know, Dion snatched him up and took him to Jackson state and everybody said, he was crazy.
Why are you going to do that? Nobody's going to see your games. And then he ends up in Colorado and look what happened. Um, one famous coach once told me JR, if you're good enough, people will find you.
And that's exactly what happened with Travis Hunter. He is going to be a special player, I think, in the NFL because he affects the game in so many ways. Carl, I got to ask you about another team right down the road from us in Athens. We know the Bulldogs got about two more weeks off before that January 1st game. We're going to figure out who they're going to play, whether it's Indiana or Notre Dame.
What are your thoughts? We don't know what's going on with the QB. If Beck is there, if he's out, we have no idea.
What are your thoughts on what the Bulldogs can do here throughout the playoff? Well, everything I'm hearing today, and of course this could change, you know, in the next few days or tomorrow or, you know, next week that Beck's not going to play. Um, now is he going to be available at some point during the playoffs potentially, but right now that's what I'm hearing.
And that means Gunnar Stockton is going to be your quarterback. You saw him in the SEC championship game. He came in. I thought he did an admirable job of leading them. And, you know, people want to say that he was not, you know, talking about when he came in and made splash plays.
I just don't think that's important. I think what is important is that you realize he can lead the team and you can win with him. And so for Gunnar Stockton, I think, you know, this is going to be an interesting thing for him. He is a guy that if he leads Georgia to a national championship, what's going to happen is you have a decision with Carson Beck because he's got another year of eligibility for COVID, the COVID year. A lot of people were coming back there.
They're in school, five, six years. He could come back to Georgia and increase his draft stock, even if Gunnar Stockton leads them to a national championship. That creates a unique situation with Georgia, which is something that has to play out as well. But I think Gunnar is the guy, at least for next week, you know, whether it's Indiana or Notre Dame, and then we'll see where, where Carson Beck is.
But everything I'm hearing is he probably won't be ready. Oh, well, that, that certainly stinks. Well, Carl, let me ask you this. Would you favor Georgia? I mean, we got a field of 12. We got 11 other teams. You wouldn't favor Georgia and all of this now.
Would you give it a new? No, no. And the reason is simple for everything that I think about Gunnar Stockton. He's the 12th best quarterback in this tournament. All these other guys go down the list, start with, with Dylan Gabriel in Oregon, all have played major roles, significant playing time, and have had big games this season for their teams. I'm not telling you that he's the worst quarterback. He's just not the best of the 12 that are in this tournament. And so if you put that out there and you say, okay, Georgia's really good, but if you need my quarterback to make plays, I'm trusting a bunch of other guys in this tournament, whether it's Quinn, yours at Texas or Archie Manning or arch Manning, should I say, or, uh, you know, you look at, at Penn State situation with Allard, there's a bunch of guys that I would go, I'm putting him ahead of, of Gunnar Stockton. And that's the reason why I would not say hands down, Georgia's going to win this thing. Yeah.
Better to watch him throw the interception and, uh, Carson Beck, at least a little less indigestion. I put it to you that way. Okay. Hey, Carl, thank you so much for the time. Where can people follow and keep up with you here nationally on infinity and Georgia? Tell us, Carl, tell us.
Well, you can follow me obviously at, uh, put them up, uh, across all social media platforms, put them up, see Dukes on Twitter. I don't call it X and, uh, man, many ways to, to get at me, uh, across the board. I'd love to hear from you guys, but yeah, man, and enjoy the Sunday show. I heard some of the callers voices that call you. I'm familiar with some of those guys. So it's good to hear some familiar voices, but Jr keep crushing it, man. And we'll talk soon. I'll run into you in an elevator, Carl, of course, but of course, I'll catch you soon that Carl deuce. You can catch him. He has Sundays on the infinity sports network. You can listen to him a weekday afternoons 90 to nine, the game, Atlanta, Georgia Dukes and bell.
Thank you so much to Carl for coming through and dropping that knowledge. Yeah. I'm not, I'm not feeling good about the, uh, the Bulldogs myself. I don't matter who's going to be out there at QB kind of disappointing that, Hey, this football people going to get hurt. And that's just the nature of what it is. And I feel the same damn way about the Falcons thinking about next year. I wouldn't have pulled the plug weeks ago though. Yeah.
They've, they've run the course and I got to stick with Kirk and, uh, look, if, if Pennix in practice, if he was rolling, if the team was going to have confidence, I think they'd, they have him out there already, but I don't think it's that time yet. Thank you again. So Carl for coming through and dropping the knowledge. It's the Jr sport re-show here with you coast to coast on the infinity sports network, eight five five two one two 42 27.
That's eight five five two one two 42 27. We're going to take a break. When we come back, you know, speaking of, of young quarterbacks, Caleb Williams played last night and he continues to break a record despite the Chicago bears losing again. I'm going to tell you what Caleb Williams is doing on the other side. We know he's coming back next year for the Chicago bears.
And then we still got a bunch of other young QBs in the game as well. We'll talk about that. We'll get into the NBA cup. You're listening to the Jr sport brief. It's the Jr sport re-show here with you coast to coast on the infinity sports network. Thank you so much to Carl Dukes. You can listen to Carl right here on the infinity sports network, Sunday mornings, coast to coast.
You can catch him in Atlanta, Georgia on 92 nine the game, Monday through Friday, Dukes and bell Monday through Friday in the afternoons. And he came through to talk to us about unfortunately what most of America had to witness last night. And that's a mediocre Falcons team now seven and seven second place in the NFC South. This is a game behind the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. At least they, they got a tie break. Forget a tie breaker. They beat him twice.
If it should come down to a tie. And so thank you so much to Carl for taking the time to talk to us, not just about the Falcons, but then also the Georgia Bulldogs. It doesn't look like Carson Beck is going to play according to Carl. And then also even getting into a future prospect who's from right here in Georgia, his name is Travis Hunter. If you missed the conversation, go ahead and hit rewind on the free Odyssey app. The phone lines are open.
If you want to give a holler 855-212-4227 that's 855-212-4227. We had the chance and an opportunity. And also we got into Mike Vick who has a new job as the head coach at Norfolk state. Let's see what Mike Vick does. Hopefully he can, uh, you know, bring some, some positivity.
Let's see how he can, he can advance for himself personally as a coach and then also for the program. And then also earlier in the hour, we had a chance to talk about Patrick Mahomes. Despite Patrick Mahomes seemingly playing football on what feels like Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and just all the way through, it looks like Patrick Mahomes is, is going to give it a go to give it a go this upcoming Saturday as the chiefs take on the Houston, Texas.
Why? I understand the why they want to hold onto that number one seed. They don't want the bills to snatch it away in the AFC. Uh, but if I'm the Kansas city chiefs, I am sitting Patrick Mahomes down. There's nothing, not a damn thing that the Kansas city chiefs are playing for this year outside of just winning another super bowl, which would be their third consecutive, which would make them the first team in NFL history to actually three Pete in the super bowl era. Uh, but we'll, we'll see what happens with Patrick Mahomes. Ain't no MVP coming his way this year.
That's, that's not the case. That is going to go to either Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson and the way that Josh Allen has been playing, especially what we just saw this past Sunday, he has been balling out kind of crazy that Josh Allen hasn't been turning the ball over like we've seen in the past. Uh, he's, he's getting better and better, and this is what you love.
This is what you appreciate. The bills are 11 and three. They just beat the lines. The rest of the bills, this schedule, it's basically there for Josh Allen to pick the bones and pad his stats and try to take the AFC by away from the Kansas city chiefs. They have new England next. They got the New York jets, and then they got new England again. Buffalo bills. I don't want to call any NFL game and say you're out here skirting on easy street, but that's probably what it is.
And you notice it's kind of crazy. The man who left Josh Allen can't even play right now. Stefan Diggs who ended up in Houston and then ended up getting hurt. Stefan Diggs says that my former quarterback, he should be the MVP.
This is what he told the NFL network. It's impressive. I kind of, uh, somebody has said something to me on Twitter, uh, and I was like, uh, he definitely should win and he's been balling. I mean, obviously there's no secret that Josh Allen is amazing. You know, as far as like seeing them, uh, game in and game out, he's making those plays. Like you, you just, you, it's not new to me at all.
He was saying it's not new to nobody in the league. I feel like it's just his respect kind of coming full circle, finally getting that credit that he deserved. He's playing at a very high level. I feel like he, I feel like he deserves it. You said the only person that you could, you can kind of compete with is, uh, Lamar Jackson is playing a hell of a ball too, but damn, it's going, it's going to be some tough. It could be some tough decision towards any year, whoever's making those decisions because boys going crazy. Lamar Jackson, crazy ball.
Oh my God. His numbers are stupid. No one with this type of usage. And I'm not talking about Josh Allen, I'm talking about Lamar Jackson right now.
No one with this usage should be able to pull up numbers like this. 3,580 yards passing, 34 touchdowns in the air to only three interceptions. And then when he's on the ground, Lamar Jackson is lethal as well. We know that 743 yards rushing to go along with three TDs.
Yeah. And we know between this is ironic, both the Baltimore Ravens and the Buffalo Bills. The one thing that they want to do is not necessarily pick up an MVP in the case of Lamar Jackson, not pick up a third. Josh Allen and Lamar, they want to beat Patrick Mahomes. They're battling it out for another MVP award, but ultimately they want to beat Patrick Mahomes when it matters.
They want to go to a Super Bowl and they want to win it. But you heard what Stefan Diggs said. Lamar Jackson is probably Josh Allen's greatest and only competition. A couple of weeks ago, you could have put Goff in here.
Not anymore. I mean, even Aaron Rodgers, a multi-time MVP in his own right. The MVP, a pain in the ass. Even Aaron Rodgers had to show Lamar Jackson some love.
This is what he told Pat McAfee today. Can we just not gloss over what Lamar's doing? Amen.
I mean, can we not? Like, uh, he has, I think 34 touchdown passes, I believe. Yep. And just, uh, yeah, three INTs, I believe.
Um, and he's, uh, you know, he's flirting with the all-time, uh, single season passer rating record. Um, this is from a guy who was just a running, just a runner. Right. He could just run, you know, that's all he can do. Right.
Just run. Um, uh, I love watching Lamar play and, uh, love to see his, uh, continual growth and how he changes the game. I mean, obviously he's so dynamic, uh, you know, but, uh, he's really become, uh, such an elite passer of the football. Well, it's fun, fun to watch. They're going to give it to Josh Allen though.
That's it. Not going to give it to Lamar Jackson again. Josh Allen, the Buffalo Bills, their record. I mean, even, especially if they finish with the number one overall seed, if the chiefs should falter and or fall the rest of the season with this potential injury with my homes, I know everybody's saying that it's all good.
It's all great. This is Josh Allen's award. Everybody loves a good story. The next best story is to just give it to Josh Allen and not just hand it over to Lamar Jackson.
Come on now. Hickey Josh Allen MVP this year. He's on track for it, but I mean, we have like Lamar's having a career year. This his year is stupid for a guy who's won two MVPs already.
He's having a career year. I don't, there should not be voter fatigue. And I hope that's not the case.
That's that's reality, right? Like why, why hasn't Nicola Jokic won the damn MVP every year was what he's won three out of four. Like he's getting there and he's looking at another one. And the only reason why Embiid got the other one is because people got tired of giving it to Jokic.
Not wrong, not wrong. Look what Allen, they both are playing at insanely high level. The second place loser would be a winner probably nine out of 10 years or this being the one year it stinks. But I don't think you could just right now sleep on what Lamar is doing. The numbers are better. Yeah, the numbers are stupid. He has, he has running back numbers. He could stop playing today and his numbers would be nuts. Crazy. He's a video game character.
And so is Josh Allen. This is why I think every now and then people, voter fatigue, as much as it should not exist, you got to look at every season and every year in a silo. It doesn't.
People string these things together. I'd be shocked. And I get it. We got more season left. Everybody got three more games. I'd be shocked if Lamar walked away with the MVP.
I think it's pretty much earmarked for Josh Allen just because the Bills have a better record that may not be that way at the end of the season. But I think people are just going to go, hey, it's his turn. It's his turn.
Let's give it to him. That's just how it goes. But at 34 touchdowns at three interceptions, as Aaron Rodgers said, a lot of times I don't agree with the guy. This was supposed to just be the QB, just the guy who runs.
This guy is picking people apart. It's good to see. It's amazing to watch. It's the JR Sport Preshow here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. We're going to take a break when we come back.
Oh, my goodness. We are so close. We're getting ready to pull up on the second championship game, the second edition, I should say, for the NBA Cup. The Bucks and the Thunder are on the way. And then the NBA is tinkering with the All-Star game? I'll explain. It's the JR Sport Preshow, Infinity Sports Network. Don't move.
