It is! The JR Sport Brief Show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. I'm coming to you live from Atlanta, Georgia. Thank you to everybody tuned in in Lockton, all over North America. I'm going to be hanging out with you for two more hours. And man, I've already had a lot of fun.
Super producer and host Ryan Hickey is holding down with us in New York City. And thank you for listening. Wherever you might be, whatever you might be up to, I appreciate you.
Everybody leaving work, going to work, picking up them kids, driving them kids home. Maybe you're driving around with somebody you got no business driving around with. Or maybe you're like Alex Rodriguez. We just talked about him last hour. Just casually shopping in Trader Joe's.
Alex Rodriguez probably doesn't even know how to pay at Trader Joe's. Anyway, we got a lot more to get into. We've had a fun show already. Besides talking about Alex Rodriguez, we learned that Tua Tonga Veloa is going to be on injured reserve.
You will not see Tua for the next four weeks. We talked about the Falcons staying alive against the Eagles and beating them, avoiding an 0-2 hole. We talked about some of the 0-2 teams in the NFL that got no chance in hell. Like the Panthers, like the Giants, like the Broncos.
Maybe the Ravens and the Bengals can still turn things around. We talked about the changing landscape in college football. That's Georgia, the state, not the Bulldogs. But the state, the governor of Georgia, Brian Kemp, he says, I'm going to allow state schools to directly pay the student athletes.
As you can imagine, the schools are not necessarily rushing to that, but they now have the ability to do so. We learned today that Justin Fields is likely to get another start at quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Russell Wilson is still dealing with that calf issue. And Mike Tomlin just, he's a funny dude.
I'll tell you this much. He is a funny guy. Unintentionally funny, just a funny guy. So A, he told everybody that Russell Wilson has to go through the process before he plays and he hasn't gone through the process. So right now we're preparing like it's Justin Fields. That's what Mike Tomlin said first. And then someone in the media asked Mike Tomlin about this pass game where they, the Steelers played another ugly ass football game and they won 13 to six over the Broncos. Russell Wilson did not play in the game. This would have been a revenge game if he played and they still gave him a game ball like he went out there and lit them up. And so a reporter asked Mike Tomlin about handing out a game ball, a petty game ball to a guy who didn't play. And Mike Tomlin was just like, it ain't none of your business, what we do and how we do it respectfully. And then he, he had a funny rep. I don't know if it's a funny reference. He had a reference about a hot dog.
Listen to this. Justin mentioned how rewarding it was to get the win in Denver for us. He said he gave out a petty game ball. Is that something that you've done often?
Is it rewarding for you to get that one for him? You know, none of your businesses respectfully. There's certain things that go on among teams that I don't talk about whether it gets out or how it gets out is unimportant to me. And I'm not overly guarded against it, but it's just certain things as a leader that I talked to the collective about that I have zero intentions of sharing with the larger public. You know, I can't give you all the ingredients to the hot dog.
You might not like it. What? Okay.
All right. Hickey, what's in a hot dog? What's in there? I don't want to know.
Nothing good. What's in there? Nitrates?
What is a nitrate? What is that? I don't know. So it's not good for you, right? I don't know. The hot dog is like, well, if it's a beef hot dog, it's, it's cow scraps, right? Is that what it is?
The cow scraps? Something like that. Like everything else that you don't want? Yeah.
That's a good way to put it. Everything you don't want from the cow is put together in one nicely wrapped package. They squeeze it into that slimy. You don't like a hot dog? I rarely eat them.
Rarely. And this is not helping. No, I'm, I'm not a vegan.
I'm not, not by any means. I just had chicken in a salad. How great is that? I don't have a, I think I had a hot dog. I had a sausage like a month ago.
Trying to cut back, Hickey, you know, just trying to, trying to cut back. That's smart, you know. I could eat this stuff every day, all day. I don't know how I would feel, but I could.
Or look. Oh. If you had hot dogs every day. Oh, well, there was that.
That won't stay the case. Remember that guy who ate McDonald's every day? That's right. And you know what happened to him? It took 20 years. It took 20 years.
20 years. That had to be a staple, like in every elementary school. You watch that video. I think it was Morgan Spurlock. That is his name. Yeah. Morgan Spurlock.
He had to pass away, what, like five years ago? Something like that. Morgan Spurlock. Oh my God. 53. Wow.
Born in 1970. Oh my God. Whoa. It was only this, well, it was only a couple of months ago.
Wait, what? It says May 23rd. May 23rd. Really?
I thought it was like five years ago. Same. Oh, wow.
I think that still is that COVID effect where like five years of life just seemingly got wiped off the face of the earth. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow.
Well. R.I.P. For real, man.
Listen. A man ate McDonald's. Did he eat it for a year? It was a year?
No, I think it was 30 days every meal. Could you imagine if he did that for a year? Oh my God.
I think we would know how that would end. Every day, all day, every day, McDonald's, McDonald's, McDonald's, McDonald's. Oh my God. I want to just regurgitate thinking about that.
Anyway. 855-212-4227. That's 855-212-4227. Shout outs to the guy pulling up into the McDonald's drive-through.
A shout out to the work at McDonald's right now listening to the show. When I come through on Ponce de Leon later on today, just remember me. Hook me up.
855-212-4227. We're going to have a chat. Let's talk some college football. Let's do that in about 15 minutes with Matt Murchell.
We're going to join us from the Orlando Sentinel. I'm going to ask him about them Gators. He also covers everything national. I'm going to ask him about the year in whole. I'm going to ask him my favorite guy, Arch Manning. And then we'll ask him about some of these guys on the hot seat, Notre Dame and Mississippi State. There's a lot of questions. We'll ask Matt Murchell in about 15 minutes. 855-212-4227. Mark is calling from Tampa.
Only Tampa I know is in Florida. You're on the JR Sport Reshow. Go ahead, Mark. Hey, long time no talk to. The only problem we have is real simple. If we could get Carolina out of the NFC and the Chicago White Sox on a Major League Baseball, then we'd be down to odd numbers of teams. But we can't do that. It's just impossible. It can't be done. That's what you're worried about? You're trying to eliminate? I'm not worried about it.
All right. No, it's just the NFC, the NFC South would be good without Carolina and the MLB Central would be good without the White Sox. But you can't do odd number teams. Is there any other teams in professional sports you'd like to get rid of? No. You're in Tampa. Do you like the Rays? No, I'm a Yankee fan because I'm in Tampa. You're a transplant.
You're retired. Well, Steinbrenner, yes. But Steinbrenner built Tampa. And that makes, yes.
Yeah, you got the Buccaneers and the Yankees right across the street from each other. Yes, directly. You know that. Yeah, I do. All right. Well, go ahead.
And to finish, it's just like when A-Roy was pushing that shopping cart, you know who was sitting in it. Uh-oh. Hold on a sec.
Gilbert Arenas. Bye-bye. Okay.
Thank you, Mark from Tampa. Hickey, I don't get it. Do you get it?
No, I don't get it at all. He thought it was funny. Why would Gilbert Arenas be in a shopping cart being pushed by Alex Rodriguez? I'm going to look at, I don't know if there's a beef.
I don't know if there's a love affair. I don't know if that was a positive or a negative dig at Gilbert Arenas. What does Gilbert Arenas have to do with Alex Rodriguez? Do they have anything in common? I looked up just Alex Rodriguez, Gilbert Arenas.
I don't see anything. I wouldn't be surprised if these guys were never even in the same room ever. Alex Rodriguez, and he called him A-Roy, so I know how he feels about him. Gilbert Arenas. I don't know if Gilbert Arenas goes outside. I think he just does podcasts, goes to basketball games. I think his son or daughter is actually a good basketball player, a very good prospect. Yeah.
But I hope so. You know, have those genes go through. I know Carmelo Anthony's son is good. Carlos Boozer. I think he has twins. The twins are good. Yeah.
We've entered into a new world. Okay. Maybe that was just some inside joke that, what's the guy named Mark from Tampa, he thought of? Yeah. Bad joke. Keep it to yourself next time, Mark. Damn.
Hickey. Who put the battery in your back today? I'm just saying.
I think you're rubbing off on me now. He told the guy. He told him keep the joke inside. Damn. Only we could make A-Rod jokes, all right?
Nobody, only us. If you got a better A-Rod joke, you know, make sure it's a good one. Anyway, 855-212-4227.
That's 855-212-4227. I wish what I was about to tell you all was a joke, but it's not. We all learned yesterday that Bryce Young is being benched. We have the wonderful Andy Dalton who's going to take over in Carolina for the Panthers. And of course, people aren't too enthusiastic about that.
And if you're Bryce Young, you cannot be enthusiastic about it. You may not get your job back. Probably will at some point because it's Andy Dalton. But the fact here is they might be done with him. They might be prepared to give him the boot. You know, we heard Dave Canales yesterday kind of explain to everybody that I don't know what's going to happen.
But he did say this. He said the goal is to make the roster as good as we can be every week. Every single week we're evaluating our roster. We're challenging all spots. We're looking to just be as competitive as possible.
And that's the part that we owe again to everybody is to really continue to evaluate who we have out there and who can help us. Uh huh. And he had a simple answer for this one as well. Is Bryce Young sitting down? Is it is it going to work out for him? Is it gonna make him better?
I certainly hope he just shows up every day, works hard, focuses on his job and continues to push himself. OK, now I want to share with you all something that I read. Shout out to the AP. They provided information on some other first round draft picks, not even first round draft picks. The guys who were drafted number one overall and how their careers turned out. And so Bryce Young is in the same space.
Hickey, get ready for this one. That's John Elway. Oh, OK. So there have been thirty six quarterbacks selected number one overall in the history of the NFL draft. This thirty six quarterbacks selected number one overall. John Elway, the number one overall pick in nineteen eighty three.
He was benched after five games. We saw how John Elway's ended his career, got them two Super Bowls at the end and he went out on top. Terry Bradshaw select the number one overall in nineteen seventy. After seven starts, Terry Bradshaw had twelve interceptions and two touchdowns. This man ended up winning four Super Bowl championships. Troy Aikman selected number one overall in nineteen eighty nine. This guy was old and eleven as a rookie. Ended up with three Super Bowls Hall of Famer. Bryce Young. He ain't going to end up like John Elway, Terry Bradshaw or Trey Aikman. Sorry.
That's the that's the worst of it. Now, there are some other guys who've been benched. There's a guy selected number one overall.
His name is Jamarcus Russell. It didn't work out well for him now, did it? Tim Couch selected number one overall in nineteen ninety nine. He found the bench. Didn't work out for him. And Jameis Winston.
I mean, maybe this is the best case scenario. He eventually got benched after four seasons. And now he's backing up everybody's favorite massage parlor attending quarterback into Sean Watson.
Maybe maybe Bryce will end up somewhere in the middle. There ain't going to be no John Elway story here. Ain't going to be no Terry Bradshaw. I won't be no Troy Aikman. Hickey, he can't be as bad as Jamarcus Russell, right? Can't be that bad. No, I mean, Jamarcus Russell didn't even try.
At least Bryson is trying so he won't get that. He won't be that bad. Did Jameis Winston best case scenario?
Um, right now, yeah. Like, well, I mean, best case scenarios, he turns around as a franchise quarterback. How realistic is that? Maybe Jameis Winston, I would say, is the most realistic scenario where he's, you know, a 10 year backup quarterback. Yes, better than being. Well, Jamarcus Russell doesn't seem to have a problem with being a bust.
We play the audio all the time. If I'm the bust, I'm the biggest bust. He has no problem.
None. And good luck to Bryce Young. He did said his faith in getting it. I don't want to miss say his words. Did he say his faith is improving as in the Lord? Is that what he said? Something like that.
His confidence, his confidence. OK, good. Oh, that's good. That's good. Jamarcus Russell, his confidence was in Waffle House and Krispy Kreme.
So yeah, you're right. I think things are going to work out much better for Bryce Young. Maybe if Jamarcus Russell had confidence in other places, he'd be better off. He said he ain't a bust at life.
So good for him. Although I think he let me just Google this real fast. I feel like he was coaching at high school somewhere.
That sounds right. And he got fired. Oh, he got fired?
I'm going to Google this right now. Oh, former NFL quarterback Jamarcus Russell would was dismissed as a volunteer assistant coach at Williamson High School in Mobile, Alabama, and is also the subject of a lawsuit that accuses him of taking a check that was supposed to go to the high school as a donation. Oh, boy, you've been taking career advice from Brett Favre. What a guy. What's going on out there?
What's going on, Alabama and Mississippi? Why are y'all football legends stealing from the community? Allegedly. I don't need Brett Favre trying to sue me. Brett Favre got them people listening.
You're trying to sue everybody. I just found out today. Did you know he was active on Twitter or X?
No. Brett Favre giving out political advice, too. Oh, he does not take the person that maybe should be on social media. I don't think he's going to welcome much positive response. The last thing we heard about Brett Favre with a phone. He was sending things on social media. So yeah, he should just put the phone down away. We should take away his bank account and his phone and access to lawyers.
Brett Favre is a man of many talents. Let's leave it there. It's the J.R. Sportbree show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network, 855-212-4227. We're going to take a break. Let's talk some college football.
Have a conversation with Matt Murchel from the Orlando Sentinel. You're locked in. It's the J.R. Sportbree show. Don't sue me on the Infinity Sports Network. You're listening to the J.R. Sportbree.
The J.R. Sportbree show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network, Coast to Coast. College football season's in full swing. NFL season's in full swing. We've seen some adjustments here when it's come down to the AP top 25 rankings. We see some coaches that on the hot seat might get the boot. We have finally seen Arch Manning. I'm thrilled about that. We've seen some embarrassments.
We've seen a lot. To talk about everything we've gotten so far in the college football season, joining us is Matt Murchel, who covers college football for the Orlando Sentinel and Tribune. Matt, how are you, man? I'm doing well. How are you doing tonight? I'm very well.
Happy to have you here. I guess my first question is outside of Miami, what's going on with them schools in Florida? Tell me about FSU.
Why do they stink? Tell me about the Gators. What's going on? Well, I think for Florida State, I think what happened is that, you know, the overlap the first couple of years that Mike Novell was at Florida State, he did a really good job of using the transfer portal. He got the kind of right that the players that fit well in the system he wanted to run. Things worked out well.
I got to be honest. I think this past year, I think he really kind of missed on some things. One of the areas they have some concerns are the offensive line. The offensive line hasn't been very good. They're not running the football, which is something that Mike Novell wants to do. And their quarterback, DJ O'Golay, I mean, he's struggling. He's struggling kind of getting the offense. He's basically they're one dimensional and he's had to put a lot of the load on it on the shoulders. And because they're struggling, that means their defense has had to step up.
And that's been a huge issue for them as well. And Matt Merchell is joining us. You talk about Mike Novell. I see his buyout is sixty five million dollars. Contract ends in twenty thirty one. Is there a possibility that we got enough donors out in Tallahassee that are going to raise this money to give him the boot or is that kind of a fantasy land?
No, I think that's fantasy land. I mean, I think Mike Novell's job is going to be safe. I mean, they're coming off a year where they went undefeated. They won the ACC. They were just basically left out of the college football playoff.
Yes, expectations were high this year, but I think, you know, the fan base will probably be more receptive to the idea of if this is a bad year, kind of brush this off and go into next year. And let's not forget, Florida State's trying to get out of the ACC. They're in the middle of a lawsuit. If they have to get out of that, they don't win the lawsuit.
One like that to pay to get out of that. You're talking anywhere around, you know, one hundred and fifty million dollars to do that. So there's no way that Florida State can come up with that kind of money and a sixty six million dollar buyout to make those kind of changes. So I think, you know, I think Mike Novell is safe at Florida State.
Now, Billy Napier at Florida, probably not so much so anymore. Yeah, he's only owed twenty six million dollars. Hey, Matt, if I should be so lucky to get fired and just take that money, you know, it's very profitable to be a college football coach.
Let me tell you that way. And Billy Napier's situation, it looks like he's probably more than likely going to get up getting getting fired. You know, reports over the last couple of days are that, you know, a lot of the boosters have sat down and have actually scraped together the twenty eight million dollars already, really, if they want you to pull the trigger and get rid of them. But, you know, the school's in a situation where they've got an interim president who really likes Billy. He's been, you know, wants to see if he can keep this thing and make it work. They've got a athletic director, Scott Strickland, who's been there a long time. If they end up firing Billy, you've got to wonder how long if Scott's going to still be there because he's the one that hired him and he's the one that hired Jim McElwain and Dan Noll before him, two guys that were also fired.
So you got to wonder how that's going to go. And, you know, again, I think if anything's going to happen, it's probably going to it would probably maybe possibly happen at the end of this weekend if Florida goes to Mississippi State and loses that game. I think you could see a move being made because next week would be a bye week for them. So they have time to do that. But also, I can also see them maybe holding off because, again, they got to wait to see who they think might be the next guy to take over the program. And that, Michelle, is joining us here from the Orlando Sentinel and Tribune covers all things college football. There's a guy and a team that doesn't have to worry about any of that right now.
And it's Texas. I've been waiting for this for a long time to see Arch Manning run around and throw the ball. Didn't expect for him to run like that, knowing that Quinn Ewers is dealing with a little bit of an abdominal issue. Arch Manning is on borrowed time as a starter, right? There's no possibility that he just excites everybody so much that he continues on. Is there?
No, I don't think so. I think this is borrowed time. I think Arch is going to get a chance to play, obviously, as Quinn kind of gets a little healthier. And I think that will give an opportunity for Texas fans and for Steve Sarkeesian to kind of see what they have there. They know how talented Arch Manning is. But now they're starting to see, OK, what can he do in this offense?
This is really kind of tantalizing people for possibly next year. I think Quinn Ewers when he comes back from being healthy, I think he goes back out there. I thought Quinn's played really well so far. He's looked really good. If he continues to play like that, I think he'll be out there as well. And then I think Arch comes in next year and assumes that mantle and takes over as the number one guy and leaves that offense.
So it's great to see. I think if you're a Texas fan, this is the future. And you're seeing him get a chance to play right now. But I think if all is said and done, if Quinn comes back healthy enough, I think he's out there playing because I think Steve Sarkeesian knows, listen, I've got a guy who's really playing well in Quinn.
I've got a guy in Arch who's going to be playing well, who's obviously playing well. We'll let Quinn get to go see what happens. If Quinn struggles because of the injury, then don't be surprised to see Arch get more play gone. And Matt, when you think about quarterbacks, Michigan just decided to go with Alex Orji to go ahead and start a little bit more athleticism. Hopefully less turnovers.
What will you expect when they take on USC and Miller Moss? Well, I think they're going to try to, you know, again, what they need is maybe some explosive plays. You know, I mean, I think Michigan is really just kind of struggled getting the ball down field. You know, that's where they, you know, they and I think that's where that's why they decided to make this move. You know, they really felt like, OK, we got we need a little more explosiveness. We need someone to take care of the ball a little bit better. They know that USC can put up some points.
You know, I think that's going to be something that they're going to have to be careful of. And so that's why they made this move and finding Alex. I mean, obviously, he's got talent. He's able to run the football. That's a little bit different than what Davis Warren was.
Davis also has, what, two touchdowns and six interceptions. Just kind of a little bit not as steady as they thought. So they've got to play perfect ball. I mean, USC comes in this game. There's a little bit of a thought 10 years ago that USC and Michigan would be a Big Ten game.
But here we are. And, you know, USC has got an opportunity to really kind of make a case for themselves and they can beat Michigan. You know, that really kind of sets them up really well in the Big Ten moving forward.
And Matt, Marchelle is joining us. You mentioned the conferences and it just triggers my brain. The advancement of what are we going to have now? A Pac-6? It's not a Pac-12, but give us about a year or two. We're going to have a Pac-6. What else can we expect here? They snatch the schools from the Mountain West.
What can we look forward to? Yeah. I mean, this is just kind of what the way things have gone. That, you know, conference realignment, you know, they're obviously the Pac-12 was able to go out and grab a few more teams. They grabbed some programs from the Mountain West and Boise State and San Diego State and Fresno State. Programs that have actually been really good, solid programs over the last few years and a group of five conferences.
So they grabbed those. I think you'll see the Pac-12 try to get more. I think they'll try to add some more schools. They'd like to get to 12 teams again. Obviously, that's kind of what the NCAA would like to have them do. So look for them to look for schools like Memphis and Tulane and maybe some programs that have been, you know, at the top echelon of some of the other group of five conferences and try to bring those along.
You know what I mean? You know, it's amazing to me how much conference realignment has changed the way the landscape looks over the last few years. I mean, you've got the American Athletic Conference talking about trying to add Air Force, possibly, so they can get all the service academies under their conference umbrella. So we're not done with conference realignment just yet.
It's just not the big boys going on right now. Matt, you mentioned Tulane in Louisiana. I know the Big Ten is snatching up everybody from coast to coast. You're suggesting that Tulane could move where now?
To the Pac-12. Oh, my goodness. You can see them.
You can see them. Oh, my goodness. I know the idea of conferences based on geography is gone. That has failed.
That ship has failed a long time ago. And now, basically, it's just looking for where can you add value. If you're the Pac-12, you're looking for a new television deal.
You want to make sure you add some value. Well, Memphis has got a lot of TVIs there. Big, major city. They've got a school that has major donors and has some money. Tulane is now in that really kind of great area in New Orleans.
They can add some things. They won the American Athletic Conference title a few years ago. This is really a good mix for if you're the Pac-12. Hey, come on. Come aboard.
Join Oregon State and Washington State and all those things. And I mean, yes. So when you look at that geography there, it's going to be something to keep a hold off. Matt Marshall is here with us breaking down everything going on in college football. You talking about going on. I don't know if they're going up. I don't know if they're going down. One week, Notre Dame is getting smacked by Northern Illinois. The next week, they're smacking around Purdue.
What is Notre Dame? Are they somewhere in the middle? They can't be trusted. I think they're kind of somewhere in the middle right now. You know, I think that it's taken them some time to adjust a little bit. I know they've had some injuries. They just lost two of their offensive linemen last week. Their offense is nowhere near what I think they would like it to be. I mean, obviously losing to Northern Illinois, it's not ideal for anybody. And I think it just showed where they had some deficiencies. Riley Leonard isn't as comfortable on the offense as I think they thought he'd be at this point.
It takes a little time to get adjusted. They were able to obviously get explosive plays against Purdue last week. They get Miami this week, Miami, Ohio this week.
So I think that should hopefully offer them an opportunity maybe to continue to see what they can do. But then they're going to play a good ranked Louisville team the week after. So this is a Notre Dame team now that really kind of had its way. It could have walked really kind of into the college football playoff based on how easy their schedule was. But now with that loss to Northern Illinois, you know, they're going to have to find a way to finish strong to win all their games.
If they want a chance to do have that happen. Mike Gillis- Matt Marchella is joining us from the Orlando Sentinel and Tribune coast to coast here on the Infinity Sports Network. Is there a team that that isn't getting the attention that it deserves so far this season? It's still early. Matt Marchella- You know, a team that's not getting the attention early. I mean, I would say, you know, Tennessee's getting a little bit of attention. You know, they're going to get a big test this weekend going to Oklahoma. It's Josh Heupel, Tennessee coach, is coming back to where he played and starred at.
Won a Heisman and now he's going to have an opportunity to play against Oklahoma. I think Tennessee's a team right now that no one's talking about so much. So I mean, everyone's talking Georgia, Alabama, Ole Miss. I think Tennessee's a team to think about. I think, you know, Kansas State, which played really well last Friday against Arizona, really kind of dominated their team right now.
They're 3-0. I think they can find if they can get things and keep going the way they're going. I think they have an opportunity to make a big push as well. You know, Miami has been kind of quietly doing what they're doing. Miami's problem is their big game has kind of already gone through. They played Florida. They have a pressing against Florida. Really, they get Louisville down the road and that's kind of it. You know, they don't really have another big game going on, but I think Cam Ward is going to do enough to make his case to be a solid contender for the Heisman.
So those right now are my modern teams that can really make a solid push and push themselves in the top echelon. Yeah, Cam Ward is out here trying to hit records. What is it, 14, 15 something thousand yards passing already? He's hitting records out here, man.
For sure, for sure. And I think he can continue to do that. I mean, he's going to do it against some, maybe some subpar opponents. But again, he's got an opportunity. This is what Miami in a lot of ways wanted. You know, Miami wanted the opportunity to go out there and really kind of showcase itself and have a good season. Mario Cristobal knows this can help with his recruiting. And if they can get Miami back on the national landscape and we're talking about him, I think that's good for them.
Well, listen, if I could put up 40, 50 and 60 and 70 points against somebody and blow them out, I think I would go out there and do it, too. Pretty, pretty wild stuff. Hey, Matt, thank you so much for taking the time to join us. Where can people follow you, read your work and all your good stuff with your coverage?
Yeah, they can go to orlandocental.com to read all the latest or follow me on social media at OS Matt Michelle. Hey, Matt, I appreciate you. We'll talk to you on down the line, OK? All right. Sounds good. Take care.
You as well. That Matt Michelle of the Orlando Sentinel and Tribune here in Georgia. We talk about Tennessee. I got a lot of fans of Tennessee, a lot of my friends. It was smacking around Kent State.
I think it was 65 to nothing at halftime. I said to myself, why are they still playing this game? Oh, my God.
Beyond demoralizing, beyond. What do you even do? Hickey, what do you tell them in a locker room at that point? You're losing 65 to nothing at halftime. What do you say? Fellows are going to play like it's 0-0. You lie, you lie.
And to their credit, I mean, the score is only 71 nothing. So they played a lot better than the second half. Oh, my God. I didn't watch.
Spirited effort there. I didn't watch none of this game. I was texting back and forth with one of my boys. And I'm just like, what are they doing? The game is 65 nothing. How did they even finish out the clock? Did they just rush and let's just kneel every play? Like, how do they even finish this game up? Give me the check for this game now and we'll just leave it at halftime.
Oh, man. Hey, Ack, what do you do? You're in the locker room. You're the coach. You're losing, you know, 65 to nothing.
What do you tell the students? You're just you're just working on whatever you need to work on. But we're just practicing. Okay. All right.
Practice a beat down. It's 71 to zero. Tennessee beat Kent State. Demoralizing. Awful. It's the JR Sport Reshow here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. 855-212-4227.
That's 855-212-4227. That is a long, terrible, awful bus ride home. Plane ride home. Train ride home.
You just lost. When we come back on the other side of the break, I'm going to tell you about someone who is going into the Hall of Fame. It involves Kyla Murray. I'll explain on the other side of the break.
You're listening to the JR Sport Brief. Yeah, I want to hear from you. 855-212-4227. The phone lines are open.
That's 855-212-4227. Thank you so much to Matt Murchell from the Orlando Sentinel and Tribune for joining us in the last break to break on down some college football. I love it. And you know, I wasn't a fan of the expanded playoff. I'm still not really. But the fact that you have so many other teams that are going to get hope and an opportunity and a chance and there's a little bit more clarity. We could talk about a team like Notre Dame and yeah, they got their asses whooped. At least a surprise against Northern Illinois. But to even think about them being in the top 12 kind of expands the conversation.
They would have been completely out of the playoff just off of that loss. And so now there's a little bit more to talk about, a little bit more to evaluate as you got to cram 12 teams into the playoff as opposed to just, hey, give me a top four. So that looks good.
You know what they look like on an expansion. I'm still not signing up for that. I will go ahead and decline. But look, if we know there's one thing about life, it's change. Change is inevitable whether you like it or not.
That's always what it is. Oh, Hickey, how about these New York Mets, man? What are they doing? Winning. Don't sound so surprised.
I'm saying, wow, this is. Listen, the Braves keep winning. Mets got to, you know, keep going here. Best record in baseball since May 30th.
No big deal. You you felt good about. I thought they would just be average. Just average. And they're good, man.
They are good. World Series for the New York Mets. You said it. You said it, JR. Let's go.
Let's go. Well, people leave Steve Cohen. People were kicking his ass in the offseason.
Oh, he's killing the team, destroying the team. Where are those people that used to complain to me on WFM? Where they at? Quiet. Quiet. Are they waiting to come out the woodwork or what? What's going on? Some are, you know, just some people just love being negative.
And, you know, we always look at the downside of everything. But I bet you a lot of those people right now, they called you in February and March and April complaining they're eating crow right now. They are full of crow. They want to fire the president who just showed up president slash. What is the president or GM Stern? David Stearns is the president of baseball operations. They still don't have a GM. They do not, because every GM they gave the job to, they all end up in trouble. Well, they were in trouble before they got there.
Yes, that's correct. Don't follow the Brett Favre playbook. People don't don't don't send photos to people who don't want them. Just just don't do that. Act normal. How about that?
Act. Is there such a thing? Yes. Yes. I would say I'm normal. You're normal. Most people can't act the way we act.
OK, if you say so. I read a story today of Puff Daddy. They seized one thousand bottles of baby oil.
That don't don't be like Puff Daddy, allegedly. What are you doing with that? Hickey, that's what are you doing? That much baby oil, a thousand bottles? I don't want to know. You know, I'd rather just be in the dark on that one.
How big is this party? It's a great question. One. Hickey, have you seen the movie Blade? Probably not. Uh, you are correct. I have not. Did you see the Matrix? I know about the Matrix. There were a couple of scenes in both movies where there were a lot of people doing a lot of things. Let's put it that way.
OK. All right. So maybe it was that type of thing where you needed a thousand bottles of baby oil? I mean, at one time he was pretty connected, pretty popular. Puff Daddy? So you think there'd be a lot of people at those parties? A thousand bottles of baby oil? Seems to me a little excessive, but. I don't ask. I don't think I have one bottle of baby oil in my house. I don't think one. This guy had a thousand FBI rate, a thousand. Anyway, we know where Puff Daddy might be going. I know something else. Kyler Murray is going to the Hall of Fame.
Condisorter. Kyler Murray of the Arizona Cardinals, who finally looks healthy, looks great coming off of that ACL tear. A full season removed last year.
He had to come back just over two games here. Kyler Murray has completed 73% of his passes. 428 yards, four touchdowns, zero interceptions, 116 yards rushing. I mean, damn it.
If fixing your ACL repaired or broken one is going to do that, then why not? And just this past Sunday, we saw the cards destroy the Rams. The final score was 41 to 10. He had a perfect passer rating. Three touchdowns.
He rushed for another 59. The only other guy to play for the Cardinals to ever have a perfect passer rating in a game is a Hall of Famer himself, Kurt Warner. And with that game, Kyler Murray is only the second quarterback in history to throw for 250 yards, rush for another 50 and finish with a perfect passer rating.
And so what happens? Kyler Murray's jersey and the game ball, they are both going to the Hall of Fame. Now, is this the closest I think Kyler Murray will get to the Hall of Fame?
I think the answer is yes, but I'll tell you this much. It's great to see him healthy. It's good to see him throwing and running around. It's nice to see him this past game connect out there with Marvin Harrison Jr. He certainly found himself a freak of a wide receiver to go out there and work with. But I still think about the the Cardinals as just a team.
They just light it up and they get into shootout with teams, shootouts, and then they don't win anything. And so, I mean, good on Kyler Murray. I'm happy his jersey is going into the Hall of Fame. The ball is going into the Hall of Fame. Good for him. But I can never, ever feel confident about the Cardinals.
I don't. I don't know what Kyler Murray is going to do. Just put up fancy numbers and be good and good enough to be paid, never good enough to win. Hickey, what are your thoughts on the Cards, man? They always are either sticking a joint up or they're kind of sort of in the mix. And they're like a video game team, not built to win anything, but be fancy.
That's a good way to put it. I agree, like they're fun to watch. And now Kyler Murray and Marvin Harrison Jr. should be a really fun combo.
But in terms of taking them seriously, in terms of being a playoff contender, even in, you know, forget this year, in the next two or three years, it doesn't feel like it. I think in part, like we see Kyler Murray have so much athletic ability, which allows him to make some of these highlight plays. But you go back to when he signed the big contract extension and they put that homework clause in there for lack of a better term. I don't think he fully exerts it. Like, I don't think he gets the most out of his potential. I think that's partly why you don't see him as consistent and why that the Cardinals, especially when they play good teams or later on in the year when the tape is out on them, why they always stumble and fall. Because the better teams know how to corral them and he can make just pure athletic ability, you know, athletic plays. But when it comes to doing the things enough and the things, you know, that winning teams do consistently, he's just not consistent enough and never will be. He's a video game quarterback.
I guess it run around, be athletic. And I don't I don't know, even with a new head coach now, I just don't just don't feel nothing about the cards. Maybe they get into the playoffs every now and then as a wild card team.
But until the 49ers just completely fall apart, I got no I got no hope in them. Nice to go into the Hall of Fame, though. That might be the closest that Kyler Murray gets.
No disrespect. He might have been better off as a baseball player. Maybe not. I think the think the A's had his rights.
That would have been a disaster. A's don't know if they're going to play in Sacramento or Las Vegas. They got issues with the stadium. Last game of the season, not even opening up the full state.
It just yeah. Kyler Murray, you chose right with football. It's the JR sport show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. Hey, I got another football baseball combo on the other side. I give you some news on Mike Trout and then musical superstar Jermaine Dupree. I'm going to hear from him. It's the JR sport show. Don't move.
