Thank you so much my main man Jack and thank you to you for listening. You can tune in on the free Odyssey app. You can tune in on your local infinity sports network affiliate if you got Sirius XM at channel 158.
And if you have a smart speaker you ask it to play the infinity sports network. History was made tonight. The Los Angeles Lakers select Bronny James at number 55 overall. We got a father and son duo in the NBA.
Angel Reese is continuing to make history or even in a loss sorry. And then we also talked about some NFL news like Tua Tonga Valoa still wants one of these big contracts. The Dolphins are like uh no not yet sir. And so we've had a busy show as the NBA has pretty much the draft spanned two days. And two days of who's that? How do you say that guy's name? What country is he from?
That number one over our guy who? Zachary Risache. Here I go Zachary Risache. Risache. He's French. Not Risacher.
He's French. Anyway if you want to practice your accent live here on the radio you can do so. 855-212-4227 is the number. It's 855-212-4227. If you utilize social media I'm there. I'm at JR Sport Brief. You can go ahead and look at what the hell I post and what I say and what I don't say. I'm right there. I ain't causing no problems, no beefs, no issues okay.
The phone number again 855-212-4227. Okay let me get this out the way we get back to some NBA basketball. Congratulations to the Las Vegas Aces. 95 points they beat the Chicago Sky. Asia Wilson 31 points and six rebounds in her first professional meeting against Angel Reese. Angel Reese continues her double double streak. 18 points and 11 rebounds that is I believe I believe eight consecutive games. Non-consecutive games.
Damn. Non-consecutive games that uh Angel Reese has come out here with a double double. Angel Reese is like I want the rookie of the year. People are gonna hate this but wait until they give co-rookie of the year to both Angel Reese and Kaitlyn Clark. People are gonna hate it. They're gonna do it on per if you know what if the WNBA wants great marketing. They should just give them both rookie of the year and just wait for the world to burn the hell after.
People are gonna have a great conversation around it. Angel Reese another double double. Non-consecutive double doubles for a rookie in a WNBA.
She still lost 95 to 83. Okay that's enough about that. Let's get to the big story.
Let's get to the story of the day. It took place approximately three hours ago because the Los Angeles Lakers had picked number 55 on the board and to the shock of absolutely nobody the Los Angeles Lakers decided to do this. With the 55th pick in the 2024 NBA draft the Los Angeles Lakers select Bronny James from the University of Southern California. Good for him and Bronny James was sitting at home with his family and this it almost and I didn't make me cry but it was sweet. His mom gave him the Lakers hat. His family was surrounding him.
He was smiling. Mom was crying. I like could you like like forget LeBron for a minute. Forget Bronny James for a minute. Think about Savannah James. Like this woman was with LeBron James since they were babies.
She was with this man from high school. LeBron James goes on to become one of the greatest basketball players of all time. Her firstborn son. She's now been old enough to get drafted into the NBA. Like if you're Savannah James your husband and your son are in the NBA. She's the first person ever forget LeBron and Bronny you know her father's son do forget that. Savannah James is one of one.
She's the first woman ever to have both her husband and her son in the NBA. And damn it dare I say if LeBron lasts long enough Bryce might be in the NBA. And if you've seen Bryce James play basketball Bryce has looked better than his brother offensively for quite some time. LeBron James was not playing about no James gang. This is an absolutely amazing story and it's been years in the making and we all know about the cardiac arrest and in the bad year that that Bronny James just had at USC but the story is wild.
It's something that we have never seen in NBA history. I want you to listen to LeBron James because he sat down on his own show a while ago the shop. I'm sure you've seen it and he has talked about potentially playing with his son but LeBron also made it very clear that Bronny James he wants to be Bronny. He doesn't want to be LeBron and a matter of fact it was also his own thought to say I don't want to be called LeBron James Jr. I just want to be Bronny. Listen to LeBron James explain this on the shop. Bronny is number one on my list.
That's dope. He's number one on my list I want to play with for sure. You want him to beat you? You think? No he can't beat me. Hey Bronny beat your daddy. Not too long ago I said um I asked him I said you want to what you want to do with this like you want to get to the pros what you want to do like yeah I said why he said because I want to make a name for myself and when I heard that I was like that's a bigger motivator than money what you gonna say today nothing I said I said well let's let's get it let's get it let's get it say no that's all I need to hear what he says in your face is I appreciate what you did back to fuck yeah yeah and I love it by the way he changed his name to Bronny I didn't he changed his name to LeBron James Jr. yeah he made him a junior yeah I made him a junior Bronny though but he Bronny and he Bronny to the world yeah he's Bronny to the world but he's he's gonna be in LeBron James shadow right like what the hell is Bronny James gonna do he ain't gonna get no burn on the Lakers or is he like am I making this up in my head like this is so damn cool like like forget whether or not you love LeBron you hate LeBron just as a sports fan people don't get a chance or an opportunity to do this okay we have not and we will not highly unlikely to see an NFL player and his son on the football field we won't okay hockey we've seen it we can think about the house and the oars we can go on forever baseball oh we've seen this okay I've seen this with the Griffey's it was amazing but basketball a basketball player is not supposed to last 21 years long enough for his son to come into the NBA and ball out with him like the image of LeBron and Bronny on the court checking into a game at the same time is going to be freakish to see it will be even more freakish if one of these guys whips the ball to the other dude and swish it's a three amazing it's gonna be even more freakish if dare I say at some point over the next I don't know the 12 months nine months that Bronny James is throwing an alley-oop to his father or LeBron James is throwing an alley-oop to his son it makes no sense it's crazy to think about it imagine to actually see it in person but is Bronny James gonna play I don't know I assume he is right he's gonna back up guard off the bench third guard off the bench fourth guard off the bench eventually we'll see him right we can all argue back and forth about how he got here he got here because of his dad he also got here because of his own merit there has to be some type of talent some type of potential and I've seen Bronny play up close and personal with him and I've seen him play up close and personal with my own two eyes I saw him play before USC and I said damn it this guy's smart what a shock he's LeBron's son this guy's smart he knows how to play and since then he's become bigger and faster and stronger bigger athlete also since then the poor guy had a cardiac arrest and since then we know why he got the gig because of his dad obviously his dad obviously his dad thinks he can live up to the potential of being a solid pro otherwise I don't think LeBron James would have his kid here in the league oh yeah and Bronny James is gonna get tested whenever he plays wherever he plays he will and sure if he was just gonna play basketball he's better off staying in college better off going to the g league but you know what like a lot of people nepotism reigns supreme and he got a job based on his talent and what he could do and his father LeBron now it's up to Bronny James to show that yes my dad helped me get here but this is what I'm capable of doing I said weeks ago or months ago that right now Bronny James is not that good and I will I will still lay claim to that he's not he has to go out there and prove that he is I'd love to see it because this story is absolutely amazing and it was only a couple of days ago that Bronny James spoke to the media and I want you to hear this Bronny James spoke to the media and he told everybody listen it was not a dream of mine to play with my dad listen to the reporter's question and then listen to the response of Bronny James one time your dad was like oh like my dream would play with my son but um I don't know if like anybody ever asked you like did you ever like dream about playing with your dad like for you or like what what went to it from your perspective no I never uh you know all my dream has always just been to put my name out make a name for myself and of course you know get to the NBA which is everyone's angle is here and you know I never thought about just playing with my dad but of course he's he's brought it up a couple times um but yeah I don't I don't think about it he doesn't think about it well it's a it's a reality right I think this is more amazing than than the Griffey's or we we saw Ken Griffey Sr. and Ken Griffey Jr. go back to back in home runs that was amazing can you imagine the minute the second and maybe we don't see it who knows but can you imagine when Bronny throws a lob to LeBron James his dad that will be every moment of this will be history for the Los Angeles Lakers and for a team that likes to make the money and be Hollywood is there more of a Hollywood story than this ironically a few years ago Major League Baseball was highlighting the Griffey's Ken Griffey Jr. Ken Griffey Sr. we've seen the clips the back to back home runs we we've seen Ken Griffey Jr. step in front of his dad and easily snatch the ball when daddy lost it as a part of of just highlighting the Griffey's Major League Baseball they sat down and they spoke to guess who LeBron James LeBron James who as many of you probably know he didn't grow up with his dad I want you to listen to this clip from Major League Baseball Peter Gammons Major League Baseball historian probably one of the most attached to baseball people ever he talks about the Griffey's and how amazing it was to see a father and son combo play on the same team at the same time and then I also want you to pay close attention because then you'll also hear the voice of LeBron James listen to this the reunion of father and son the improbability one of those things I would never see that in my lifetime to be able to be out there and play the game you know with your son and with your dad as a kid without a father or something that uh that would have been a dream come true well it's a damn dream come true now for LeBron James it may not have been the dream of Bronny Jr but this is another let me say another dream come true for LeBron James we've had a lot of father and sons in the NBA forget sports we can go on down the list from the Matthews and and football and I can go down the list in the NBA Scottie Pippen ain't played with his son Kenyon Martin ain't played with his son Michael Jordan's sons didn't make the league Shaq's sons haven't made the league he ain't played with his son we can keep on going we can think about some of the legends of the game Lebron James is the only dude who's going to have that privilege and have that honor and I mean damn it his son last year suffered a cardiac arrest don't let that get lost on you is this nepotism yeah it happens all over the damn place not in basketball not in basketball Lebron James is going to play with his boy congratulations to them fun story and for the Los Angeles Lakers yeah good luck you still got to build a team it's the JR sport pre-show here with you on the infinity sports network 8 5 5 2 1 2 42 27 that's 8 5 5 2 1 2 42 27 yeah when's the last time the guy selected a number 55 in the NBA draft caught attention well it would have to be brawny james you you it's the JR sport reshow here on the infinity sports network greatness right we've seen it kind of manifest manifest itself in a different way today as Lebron James now is on the same team and his son as his son brawny james first time we've ever seen this in NBA history and now we just gotta wait to see whether or not if and when they step onto the court at the same damn time it's just a waiting game that's all it is and i told you how difficult it is to think about just any professional sport where father and son are playing let alone playing at the same time what at the nfl you could think about generations of players and families baseball you can do the same i mean come on now we we we had bret boone on the air a couple of weeks ago the boone family matthews family like we just whatever sport right football is tough we will probably never see this in football a father and son on the field at the same time don't count on it even for somebody like tom brady was never gonna happen you know what for patrick mahomes never gonna happen as great as he is i think he doesn't even have a son unless the world keeps changing and is one of his little girls plays football but besides that anyway speaking of patrick mahomes he's he's great in his own regard patrick mahomes is great patrick mahomes is so great that with all the trouble that guys like rashid rice and isaiah bugs are getting into with the kansas city chiefs i guess patrick mahomes has to get into a little bit of trouble himself right right i guess not we know patrick mahomes is one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever grace a field and so you know with that you can call a little bit of your shots you can do what the hell you want and so patrick mahomes is kind of skirting some current nfl rules patrick mahomes is actually promoting something that he's not supposed to promote patrick mahomes is talking about cores light patrick mahomes is selling beer patrick mahomes is in a cores light commercial that he's not supposed to be in patrick mahomes is breaking rules in the nfl that says players are not supposed to promote alcohol and so how is patrick mahomes promoting cores light by making fun of the fact that he can't that he can't you want to know how i want you to take a listen this is from a new commercial and this is genius marketing by the way whether or not the nfl agrees i'm sure they would but they probably don't like it there's also free marketing listen to this this piece from a new cores light commercial featuring patrick mahomes patrick uh i can't let you shoot this core is like commercial why not it's really cool and high stakes it says so right here no player shall be allowed to promote a beer while they play professional football no matter how cool and high stakes it is they even bolded that last part so that's it no children sorry rules are rules people so they they release this clip online it's like one minute and it's like the behind the scenes of a of a commercial shoot with patrick mahomes is getting ready to shoot the commercial the lady walks up so what you just heard and says we can't shoot the commercial cores light says this was behind the scenes footage and that they will never air the actual commercial until the nfl changes the rules i don't know who came up with this i don't know who at cores light or cores lights agency came up with this they're a genius they were genius this is actually the third year that patrick mahomes has kind of teased some type of promotion with cores light and i guess if you're the nfl do you want to get into a legal fight or litigation with patrick mahomes i think the answer is no like for what it's it's a waste of time unless you just kind of put the the the the foot down quietly there's no reason to make a big old fight that patrick mahomes is promoting a course light this is genius level marketing the next thing you know they're going to be making fun of patrick mahomes and his dad bod because he got a gut this is genius is it going to encourage me to drink cores light uh no i've had myself a course light or two more not my thing but patrick mahomes this is like free free marketing hey jack you like cores light i uh it's not my go-to but i'll i'll drink it if it's around oh damn it sounds like you it's like you open up the cooler and it's like oh it's the last thing is that it's that and water the ice is even melted so i got two options it's the melted water and the cooler or it's the cores light yeah it's yeah i mean and basically the same thing so yeah i mean honestly yeah yeah yeah no course light might as well you're right it might as melted water that's what it tastes like right yeah it's not again not my go-to but if it's there you gotta gotta get you gotta get what you gotta do so okay yeah cores light tastes like water i understand that's why that's why i don't drink it i'd have to anyway yeah it'd take a lot of cores light a lot of them like one two three can the last time i put it to you this way the last time i had a cores light i was at a racetrack i was in brooklyn michigan this must have been i don't even know 10 years ago i'm in brooklyn michigan i'm at a nascar race that's the last time i had a cores light i think i've done okay for myself since then but congratulations to mahomes do you dig the idea of of him promoting it but secretly promoting it you like that idea i think it's genius it's uh good way to yeah good poking fun of the nfl for making like they think it's a silly rule it is a silly rule but yeah this is definitely genius on you know patrick mahomes and cores lights and just coming together and saying okay like this is kind of a ridiculous rule but let's poke make commercial poking fun of that it's i think it's a great look and it's it's nothing wrong with it they're not breaking any rules so might as well go for it yeah listen the nfl we've heard this for so long it stands for no fun the nfl is the no fun league and so for patrick mahomes which is their best active player in the league to make fun of the nfl i guess this is one of the few times that the nfl just says you know what this is this isn't even worth the fight patrick mahomes fake recording commercials that aren't commercials so we can't we can't beat them up wild stuff nfl ordered to pay five billion dollars in sunday ticket lawsuit league inflated price for satellite only games marco balletti marco what does that mean i get like 25 for all the money i spent over the past i don't know 10 years you know i gotta look in do we get anything i would imagine no maybe you get that one thing if you want to be part of this class action lawsuit and you go down the list and after about six months and you go down through everything maybe you get a quarter but i feel like no we're not going to get anything where's that five billion dollars going hmm that's a hell of a question where does five billion dollars ever go so what do you mean to ask steve cohen like do i need to call steve balmer like hey you know what and don't because it's a federal antitrust lawsuit the nfl could get fined up to 14 over 14 billion over 14 billion dollars you realize that they can they can quadruple this or whatever it is i i spend i don't even know how much how much a stupid sunday ticket 300 bucks 400 bucks i like that i got it it's been a long time since i got it i'm not home and i work luckily i guess enough on sundays that i stopped paying that ridiculous bill a long time ago they are i feel like they auto renew it man i feel like they auto renew i don't even know how much they take i know i want my money back good luck with that good luck with that look i listen this is kind of weird bloody i don't know roger gadell is on x on twitter right probably no he is okay i know this because he follows me oh wow look at you roger gadell oh he's upped it oh he's really upped it roger gadell follows 192 people on twitter and i am one of them look at you i have no it's not look at me that's cool no it's not i've tried to figure out for 15 years 15 years why roger gadell follows me i have no idea none i looked it up last i looked it up last year the average for uh you guys are talking about how much tickets were cost the average last year for an nfl ticket was 377 dollars oh yeah there we go well i want it back i've been flim-flam they should give me at least half back for the past i don't know five to ten years i should get my money back i just want to go down the deep dive and see who are the other 191 people that roger gadell follows other than jr sport brief now now you got me curious oh well let's let's take a look i mean is this like a mishmash or are you just the only oddball in this thing and not that you would be an oddball but you know is it a bunch of billionaires and you like how are we doing this well roger gadell follows me the pro football hall of fame ed werner jason lock and fora judy batista brian macar bob papa he follows bob papa we all love bob papa merrill hodge yeah i don't fit in with none of these people none of them well i mean your media so that does i mean that's he's following a lot of media people okay in 2009 i was me i had the biggest youtube channel out there what's roger gadell looking at me for in 2009 or what is his intern looking at hey right yeah well you know what that's that's media and that's that's eyeballs across see they're on top of it don't tell me that anything goes past the nfl nothing gets past them no yeah yeah when me when me i made fun of him and they're like we need to keep an eye on this that's exactly what it is the wall street journal the new york times carson wince roger gadell follows cbs news mike torico dak prescott the wall street business news nfl network of course with just a couple of random quarterbacks then ian rapoport and time tyron matthew and me and richard sherman and michael sam great company by me great company that is quite a crew of people that he follows yeah well i'm pretty sure if you put x in front of uh roger gadell he wouldn't know what to do with it so we can thank his intern from 2009 who's never deleted me off of the following that's what it is hey thank you roger gadell for the follow i uh i appreciate exclusive company i should send him a dm and i know how to get unfollow oh yeah when am i getting my check for sunday ticket damn right send that in a dm or you know what worse send that in a regular tweet tag him on there you're out in a heartbeat oh take two seconds whoever the pr person that's reading this thing that's the first thing that they're gonna say you know what i'm gonna hit up uh i'm gonna help my friends at the uh players association they could join in and kind of get angry with me not that they care but i know people who know people who know people anyway i want my money back i really do it's the jr sport b show here with you on the infinity sports network when we come back i'm not getting my money back but we're going back in time to things that took place this day in sports history you you it's the jr sport b show here with you on the infinity sports network eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven that's eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven let's get to the phone lines and then i want to share with you quite a few things that took place this day in sports history mark is calling from california mark go ahead get to it quick you're on the jr sport brief show jr what's going on um what do you think of the bridges trade to the nix do you think this makes them a championship or buff contender yeah and thank you mark for calling from california i think the new york nixon bringing in mikkel bridges the point of bringing him on is to compete for a championship the new york nixon most certainly already one of the best teams in the eastern conference we saw what they were able to do with a jalen brunston running around with a bum hand a bum foot with no julius randall and so the new york nixon and bringing in a mikkel bridges and re-signing an og ananobi and whether or not it's a hartenstein and or a mitchell robinson a josh hart a dante diva cenzo they've added length they've added shooting only guy that really needs to go ahead and fit in marco balletti and i talked about this a little last night is someone like julius randall so the new york nixon they've tried to improve they did improve i'm not too concerned with the draft picks because the fact of the matter is the new york nixon are going to be good and decent and there's a good chance that unless there's a catastrophe injury wise the new york nixon are going to be selecting at the bottom of the draft they're going to be in that 20 to 30 range and that's not to say that you're not going to find a star but over the next several years the nixon should be competing and pushing for a championship i like the move and yes you can look at four first round draft picks and go hey you find a star i think the new york nixon they have one in jail in brunston i think they have multiple guys who can go out there and just go out there and get it and uh look it's not the first time that we've seen a quote-unquote team actually come together to win a championship with their unique skills go ahead and take a look at the pistons find me that star i think the new york nixon have a well-rounded lineup in a very unique way all up and down the roster let's see if julius randall can go out there and adjust his game it's the jr sport re-show here with you on the infinity sports network that's thinking about the future right now i time i think it's time to think about the past back back back back back in the days when i was young i'm not a kid anymore but some days i sit and wish i was a kid again it's time for this day in sports history you see back in those days we had radio and you couldn't see anything and it was primitive and lousy and we liked it on the jr sport brief show i wish i was 50 years younger and i'd kick your ass and damn it speaking of ass kickings that's exactly what michael tyson yes i called him michael tyson because i'm specific this is what michael tyson did to michael sphinx this day june 27th 1988 knockout nice and along the ropes doing damage michael sphinx is going to be a seven nineteen eighty eight knockout nice and along the ropes doing damage michael sphinx has keep moving because every shot uppercut landed inside and sphinx went down it was the left uppercut i was surprised there was a body shot that put him to the canvas and that is the first time michael sphinx has ever been down in a professional fight and he's down again and in serious trouble a right hand right on the chin six seven eight he's not going to make it it's all over yeah that's michael on michael crime mike tyson beats up michael sphinx knocks him out 1988 what else took place on june 27th let's go to 1999 how about this one this is crazy tony hawk lands a 900 spin at the x games what the hell is that you're damn right i'll talk about the x games that's two and a half spins on a damn skateboard it's the first time it was ever done in competition let's listen to my skater folk lose they mind so yeah just imagine a big tall guy spinning around on a skateboard yeah that took place in 1999 use your imagination june 27th two years after that you don't need your imaginations for this one of the biggest busts in nba history he was on the list yesterday kwame brown was selected number one overall this day in 2001 why in the hell did michael jordan select this guy well listen to michael jordan tell you michael kwame brown missed a lot of rumors about you guys possibly trading a pick what possessed you to keep him and go for one of these runners well obviously you can see he's a well-educated kid i think he's done a lot in terms of his basketball capabilities i think it's up to doug as well as the washington wizards to help this kid develop and he certainly has the skill now we entertain a lot of possibility but none could change our minds in terms of what this kid could do in the long range for for the washington uh michael jordan great basketball player bad talent evaluator because kwame brown sucked michael jordan tell me what skill and talent he had besides i don't know sucking nothing anyway june 27 2006 some guy named roger federer who can't play anymore won his fourth consecutive wimbledon title he beat a rival another guy with a busted up knee rafa nidal listen to this consecutive wimbledon championship this looks approachable which the 14 seems possible for this guy but you know rafa nidal is going to win some more also nidal again handling himself just magnificently in this moment as he did a week ago so yeah well now they're now they're both kind of old and and done and washed it sucks for them hey also this day in june 27 2013 anthony bennett was drafted by the calves he was my number one bust yesterday he was uh numero uno yeah a lot of busts and hey also hopefully this guy's not a bust okay brawny james that took place this day in sports history like is it still history if it takes place today i guess i don't know i i don't know these things i don't know hey jack if it took place today is it history or we gotta wait a year i guess maybe you gotta wait a year but i guess it's still considered history yeah from three hours ago yo congratulations to brawny james man and good for the family i'm happy for them i hope it works out and all that good stuff what you gotta be a real me what do you you gotta be a real mean you know what to be like really angry about this this is life it happens if the guy has a good career great and if his career sucks then people are just gonna diss lebron about it anyway he's used to it i'm happy for him hey jack thank you for hanging out the past two days are you here tomorrow with me or what i don't know i am not with you tomorrow this is our last day together okay i'll just cry my way out the studio then are you gonna cry no right you don't cry i mean i i am gonna be upset that i'm not working with you tomorrow but okay i don't know if i'd cry but oh well thank you what a way to shatter my confidence headed into the weekend i appreciate it i got you man no no oh easy it's like yeah no problem anyway listen folks it's been hanging good hanging out with my main man jack i i didn't get drafted into the league jack didn't get drafted but we'll be here tomorrow to do more and i guess by the time we get to tomorrow to be this day in sports history and so now that we've concluded the nba draft it's it's time to see what what happens next what goes on in free agency okay jamal murray accepts accepts a contract extension with the nuggets og ananobi is going to be sticking around with the new york nicks but what happens with a paul george i think it's a foregone conclusion unless you're stupid that lebron james is going to be sticking around with the lakers so now we have to get through free agency this is certainly an interesting time of the sports calendar we're moving towards the sbs we got another month towards training camp we have the fourth of july is exactly a week away and i don't want to say summer is like flying by officially summer started a few days ago but damn it we already a month away from memorial day and we're already at the fourth of july i'm gonna blink and it's gonna be august i'm trying not to rush it but damn and take your time and give somebody a hug love somebody if nobody loves you i love you a virtual air hug ver verbal hug for me jr okay the jr sport show here on the infinity sports network is done i'm gonna be back with you tomorrow 6 p.m eastern 3 pacific if you missed a minute of the show you can hit rewind on the free odyssey app i'll catch you tomorrow okay thank you to our guests caleb and zach and thank you to you for listening there is no show without you you can find me online at jr sport brief don't leave here on the infinity sports network because bart winkler is coming up next thank you jack have a good night y'all be safe be cool be smooth be well
