I learned that in kindergarten. Anyway, in about 20 minutes from now, we're going to be joined by Jay King. He covers the Celtics for the athletic. The Celtics are in the NBA Finals along with the Mavericks and we've talked about the Mavs going into the Finals. We talked about the Timberwolves. They lost. They're going home and we talked about the Kansas City Chiefs. Well, they were at the White House today.
They gave President Biden a helmet. I'll keep my jokes to myself. If you want to talk to me, it's simple. Listen, it's 855-212-4227. That's 855-212-4227. You can find me online.
I'm everywhere. I am at JR Sport Brief. That is at JR Sport Brief. Tonight, we got the Oilers and the Dallas Stars going at it. They're tied 2-all in the Western Conference Finals. We got the Rangers and the Panthers tomorrow. And so, yeah, the Final Four is still rolling in hockey. We wait on the championship in the NBA to get started next Thursday. So, before Jay King joins us in about 20 minutes to talk about these Celtics, we actually just got an interesting message. Oh, yeah, by the way, we shared with you that Mike Tyson, if this was going to ruin your day or your weekend or your month of June, Mike Tyson is going to, well, the fight between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul has been postponed.
Okay? Mike Tyson is dealing with ulcer issues. And so, this fight that was scheduled for July 20th, it will be rescheduled. So, if you got tickets in Dallas, no, no, use them for some other time. Mike Tyson is about to be 58 years old.
You don't think something else might happen? Anyway, speaking of tickets, and we're going to talk about Kyrie Irving. We got a lot to get into. I'm going to talk about Kyrie and the Celtics.
We even got some news, some other news from the Kansas City Chiefs that don't involve the White House. And we'll get into all of that. You know, when I got off air last night, and I'm looking at what's going on, and I'm like, all right, let's get this Dallas Mavericks beat down over with as the Mavs beat up on the Timberwolves. My sister had messaged me. I'm like, what the hell does she want? And she's like, hey, you know, what's going on with the Atlanta dream?
I'm like, I don't know. You tell me what's going on with the Atlanta dream. Carlos, can you believe this? She talked so tonight, the Atlanta dream are here at home in Atlanta. And the defending champions are here. The Las Vegas Aces are here in Atlanta. And of course, you know, it's a hot ticket. Who doesn't want to see the champs?
Asia Wilson, Kelsey Plum. People want to see this. Sure. My sister hits me last night and says, hey, can you can can you help me figure out what's going on? Because she says she got a message that the tickets that she bought were now invalid. And I said, whoa, what are we talking about? I said, here, let me reach out to the team.
Like, what happened? And she told me. She's arguing with, you know, Ticketmaster representatives in a chat box, they're telling her, well, your tickets have been invalidated because you did something invalid.
She's like, what are you talking about? And eventually, while she's arguing with a stupid chat person, human robot, whatever it is, customer service, she gets an email from Ticketmaster. And a lot of people here in Atlanta who bought tickets to see the Aces take on the dream got this message.
And it basically says this. We are sending a message on behalf of the Atlanta dream due to an error. We inadvertently made tickets available for sale that had previously been sold to season ticket holders. Because of this error, we've had to cancel your tickets for Friday's game against the Las Vegas Aces. Come on now.
They offered them refunds that will appear in five to seven days. And then due to this issue, we would like to offer you a 10% discount on tickets to an upcoming game. Come on. This offer will expire on Friday, June 7th.
Come on now. This is what they sent them. Do you know how many people had drove or planned to drive into town to see the Aces play and to get an email the night before that?
My bad. We sold somebody else's tickets like where they do that at? No wonder Ticketmaster and Live Nation break them up. They got a monopoly on all of this. And I get it. It's a growing league trying to sell tickets, but you got to do better than that. You got to do better than that. And then you're giving everybody seven days to use a 10% discount.
I don't know how many more games there are. People plan out there. This is a social event.
This is not like making a trip to the grocery store. People are planning this out. They're traveling. They're taking days off. They're getting together with friends. They make travel arrangements. Maybe they get in a hotel.
Oh, we can come into Atlanta for the weekend and go see the Aces and the Dream. And this is the best that they could do? Y'all a big ass company do better than that. This is terrible. Awful, awful, awful, awful. You want to holler at me? It's simple. 855-212-4227.
It's 855-212-4227. Carlos, you had any thoughts about this, man? Yeah, JR, as it happens, the Dream actually made an update to that. So they posted this on Twitter this morning because I saw what you were talking about, about the tickets getting refunded.
They looked like it was ghost purchases. This is a quote from the Atlanta Dream Twitter page. Our team is working with the staff at Gateway Center Arena to accommodate all affected fans with standing room only tickets. They will receive complimentary entry into the arena, as well as a meal at tonight's game. In addition, the Dream will also offer all fans who are impacted with complimentary tickets to an Indiana Fever versus Dream game at State Farm Arena.
And it goes on to talk about the particulars of it. So it looks like the Dream got the original criticism and they just said, you know what, no, we got to make good. And that's, they were about two seconds from me killing them if 10% is all that you were going to offer fans. So wait, they're going to go see the Fever? Yeah, so it looks like they're going to try to get people in the building tonight that had those ghost tickets to standing room only tickets. So it's not a seat, but at least you can get in the building. Still sucks, but they're also going to offer tickets to see Kaitlyn Clark or a comparable team according to the Atlanta Dreams Twitter page. That is a decent thank you for the update.
I'm glad that that's an okay make good. That place ain't all that, I get it. The place is not all that big. And so to say standing room only, it's not a 20,000 seat arena.
It's one of the smaller ones, holds a couple thousand people. So I guess, but that's just it. The fact is, it shouldn't be that way. And the WNBA is growing.
I'm happy that they're growing. But come on, could you imagine that for anything else? Could you imagine that for a baseball game?
And maybe I'm missing this. I can't imagine trying to go see the Braves or the Yankees or the Brewers. And all of a sudden it's just like, hey, man, the tickets that we sold you, they belong to somebody else. Sorry. Mike, you can't, you can't do that.
You can't. Shout out to the Dream for fixing it. But last night, let me tell you, there was a lot of upset people here in Atlanta. And Carlos, you just got an email as well. What happened with you? Yeah, so my cable provider, they, I'll just go ahead and quote it.
Hello, customer. We were recently notified by Pac-12 that on or after June 28th, 2024, the following channels will cease programming will no longer be available. So end quote, the Pac-12 network and its affiliated channels, it looks like they're done so next month. Damn.
Wow. It stinks. Like we knew the Pac-12 was down to two. We knew that they stopped the live programing.
And it was always it was always odd to me that, hey, we're going to end the you know, the live programing, but. We just going to keep studio programing supported by what? Who's paying for all of this? Do you think ESPN is still going to fit the foot the bill for all of this? Pac-12 network is done just like the Pac-12. Call it the Pac-2.
What the hell would they talk about anyway? And it really stinks because all the folks who will lose jobs and people who will lose work. There's so much. Oh, man, it's so unpredictable in college sports. I mean, trying to choose a school, trying to grab a university.
This is this is such a wild world that we live in right now. I even saw a story earlier today about a baseball team. Birmingham Southern. This is a school. That is in the College World Series.
This is D3. They're in the College World Series, but the school is closed. I'm not joking. This is a school that is basically defunct. The school shut down, but the baseball team is still playing in the College World Series.
You can't make this stuff up. I mean, when it comes to college athletics, I feel like I'm in a space of of what will they think of next? And it's like, oh, yeah, we'll pay the players. And oh, yeah, now we'll put now the latest thing is jersey patches on the players and on the field. And it's just like, well, as long as you all understand, you've got to give them a cut of the revenue.
No complaints by me. Pay the players, man. I can only imagine you think about some of the stupid bowl names that we have in college football. What are some of these patches going to be? When teams start selling the inventory? I have no idea.
I'm trying to think of it now. I mean, here in Georgia. With the Bulldogs out in Athens, we got a burger place. I don't know if they're going to pay for a jersey patch, but we got a place grind house.
They should put grind house burgers on the on the chest. Carlos, you got any you got a favorite team you like? In college? Yeah, football. Yeah, not not necessarily football because I grew up in, you know, in Chicago and not that many football teams and college wise to root for. My alma mater is Western. No, not at all.
No, no, no, not really. My alma mater is Iona. So I'm a college basketball fan.
Go gals there. So but I'm a free agent when it comes to football. Maybe I should get like an NIL tour and have one of these schools like bid for my fandom.
You need help like getting a college football team? Yeah, I could. I could.
I wouldn't mind being wine and dine. You know, I'm a three star fan. You know, maybe I could play up to a four or five star fan recruit. Oh my God. I was just going to tell you, come down here and see the Bulldogs with me. That's it.
But I ain't whining and donning yet. You don't got to do that. But, you know, have some school officials get in contact with me and, you know, we'll take a campus tour, have them talk to my grandparents and, you know, we'll go through the whole pitch. Now, I would love to be recruited, J.R. To be a fan of a team. This is what it needs.
This is what you need. You need to be one and done to be a fan of a team. There is so much NIL out there. Why can't the fans get a piece of it? Why can't I get mine, J.R.? I want to eat. Let me eat.
You want money for being a fan? I'm saying let me, you know, explore the experiences right now. I'm a college free agent.
You know, I deserve the experience just like the recruits. Visit the cities. I was going to say hang out in the town with the college students, but that may not be a good idea. Go to Austin. Austin would be good for Texas, okay? You can come down here to Georgia if it's stopped by Athens. You can go by Columbus. It'll be fun at Ohio State. Ann Arbor, Michigan is fun. UCLA has a nice campus. It's right off of Sunset. You might like that.
I'm trying to think. Anyplace. Oh, Arizona. Arizona's good.
Arizona's nice. I'm trying to give you some options here, but you need a little too much, Carla. I need it. Go ahead and just take this segment and send it to management and let's pitch the idea over here. Just send me on a college recruiting tour. You want a college recruiting tour to be a fan? Okay. You like the tailgating aspect? You need the food? I need all aspects of the college football experience.
You know, tailgating, the all-day Saturday benders or whatever it is that they do in the parking lots or on the field. I don't know anything. Okay.
I gotta be recruited. Not bad. Okay. I get it. I get it. Well, one thing you don't have to worry about is buying tickets and being told that they belong to somebody else, so you'll be okay in that regard. And shout outs to The Dream for actually trying to help out, because last night's disaster, that's Bush League. Do better.
It's a ticket master. Do better. Much better. It's the JR Sport Reshow here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. We're going to take a break. When we come back, speaking of doing better, the Boston Celtics are going to try to do real better.
They're going to try to actually win the championship this year, something that they failed at two seasons ago. We're going to have a conversation with Jay King. He covers these Celtics for the athletic. That's on the other side of the break.
You're locked into the JR Sport Reshow here on the Infinity Sports Network. Well, good thing Instacart shoppers are as picky as you are. They find ripe avocados like it's their guac on the line. They are milk expiration date detectives. They bag eggs like the 12 precious pieces of cargo they are. So let Instacart shoppers overthink your groceries so that you can overthink what you'll wear on that third date. Download the Instacart app to get free delivery on your first three orders while supplies last.
Minimum $10 per order, additional terms apply. It is the JR Sport Reshow here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. Oh yeah, that's that was the final call from the Celtics radio network. As the Celtics, they wasted no time advancing to the NBA Finals.
Feels like forever ago because it was. The Celtics have been resting. They got more resting to do, more preparation to make. After last night, we know their opponent when the NBA Finals get started next Thursday, June 6th in TD Garden. Joining us right now to talk about it is someone who covers and knows what's going on the ins and outs of the Celtics and the organization. It is Jay King joining us from the athletic. Hey Jay, thank you for taking the time. Yeah, thanks for having me. Absolutely.
I guess the first question that people want answered. I heard he's feeling better. What's the latest with Kristaps Porzingis? As practice ended today, he was out shooting around.
He did some drills in practice, according to Joe Missoula. At this point, based on how much time has passed, based on the progress he's said to be making, I would be surprised if we don't see Kristaps Porzingis early in the finals. Jay, when you talk about early, what do you think we're going to see from a a minute standpoint?
The Celtics have been rolling. We know this is a different type of opponent. He's susceptible to leg injuries throughout the course of his career.
Are they going to throw him into the deep end of the pool or are they going to babysit him a little bit? Yeah, I think you just have to be cautious and obviously, you know, it depends on how the series goes too. If it's early in the series, you go up one, go up two games, then be as cautious as possible. If he has pain, be as cautious as possible, but I think he's really important in this series. I think he'll need to play significant minutes if he is available. I think just because of how much rim protection the Mavericks have, because of how much size they have with Gafford and Lively down low, you need a big man to be able to stretch those guys out to the perimeter. You need somebody to punish them for when they spend too much time at the rim and with Porzingis and Al Horford when both those guys are available, the Celtics have 48 minutes of that and I just think that's going to be a big deal in this matchup.
They didn't need Porzingis to beat the Heat, they didn't need Porzingis to sweep the Pacers or beat the Cavaliers, but in this matchup I really think he's important. The Celtics reporter Jay King is here with us, the JR Sport Brief Show on the Infinity Sports Network Coast to Coast. It feels like it's already been forever. How have the Celtics decided to, you know, spend this time? A couple days off, a little bit of film work, what exactly have they been doing?
What will they be doing? They had a couple days off. Today was their first day of practice, I believe, since they closed out the Pacers and they're used to this by now. They had a week after the regular season while other teams participated in the playing tournament.
They had basically a week after the first round, another week after the second round. It's kind of been the most restful playoff run that I've ever covered and especially for the Celtics team, which over the recent years has just had seven game series after seven game series, bloodbath after bloodbath. This has been a welcome change for them, I think.
Well, you talk about the success that the Celtics have had over the past few years, two out of the last three Finals. Joe Mazzulla is in the big boys chair in the biggest moment. Based on how things went last year and how things are going so far this season, have you noticed any changes in him, his behavior, how he interacts with you, the media, the team, or has he just been the same exact guy? I think the biggest change for him was just being comfortable in his role and knowing from day one that he's going to be in the role. Last year, he took under such unique circumstances, took over days before training camp when Imeo Doka was suspended and eventually the Celtics part of ways with Idoaka. It was just really hard because he wasn't supposed to be coaching the team.
He hadn't even really thought about being the head coach of the team. With an off-season, to map things out, to really think about changing the culture, and how even the Celtics operated on a day-to-day basis, that was really important for him. On top of the crazy circumstances last year, he didn't want to change anything because that team was loyal to Idoaka. That team loved the way Idoaka coached them and if he had changed anything significantly, I think guys would have looked at him sideways. But after the way last season ended, it's Joe Mazzulla's team now and I think he's done a great job.
I think he's gotten everybody bought into sacrificing for the team, which I don't think was an easy sell. This is a loaded roster. They've got Drew Holliday as the fifth option and he was an all-star last season and he used a great dip as much as anybody in the NBA this season and he's been okay with it. Jason Tatum, Jalen Brown, those guys have given up shots and touches. They're okay with it and I think a lot of that goes to Joe and what he's taught them and the synergy that they've shown and the camaraderie that they've shown through ups and downs I think is really important.
And I think a lot of that goes back to Joe. Jay King is here with us from The Athletic. You talk about the depth of the Celtics and we know that the tip of the spear with the Dallas Mavericks is going to be Luca and Kyrie. Kyrie getting ready to make his return. How much fireworks should we expect? At what point do people at the Garden get tired of bullying him or is that impossible? It's funny because the emotions had kind of died down.
When Kyrie comes to Boston, came to Boston recently, it just hasn't felt the same. But this will ramp it all the way up again. It'll be like he just left. It will be people angry, people upset, people chanting I'm sure cuss words at him.
It will be a revved up TD Garden on Thursday night for game one. And that's not the only storyline like that. Kristaps Swarzingis, obviously he played with the Mavericks and I don't think his time there was always smooth. So this theory lacks no storylines, that's for sure.
Not at all. And for people who aren't as familiar, what was kind of the final nail in the coffin in the relationship between Kyrie Irving and the Celtics fans? Was it ultimately rooted in the promise to return and the love?
Is that the root or is there more? I don't think it was just the promise to return and then he left. It was the entire way his final season in Boston unfolded. And that team had all sorts of issues. It was pretty dysfunctional from the start and not everything was due to Kyrie.
But he could have been a force to lead people back together and instead he was divisive. He called out the young players in press conferences. He just constantly criticized them for not being championship ready. And I just thought that he approached that season all wrong. In the playoffs, they played the Bucs and he just didn't have the appropriate focus. He had a terrible series against Milwaukee. And it was just things went really, really sour between him and the fan base. So it wasn't just the promise to leave or to stay and then him eventually leaving. Everything about that season was just really rocky. And I think he handled it all wrong.
And I think if he had to do it again, he would have done a lot of things differently. The Celtics reporter from The Athletic, Jay King, is joining us here on the JR Sport Brief Show. It seems like he has things figured out with Luka Doncic right now, especially after the mid-season trade last year. How do the Celtics, and they got plenty of size and plenty of guards to throw at him, how do they handle Doncic?
Yeah, I think in the regular season, at least, the primary matchup for him was normally Jalen Brown. And I think that could be how they start games. But they'll throw Joe Holiday at him. I'm sure they'll throw Jason Tatum at him sometimes. They will throw different bodies. They'll switch.
They'll play drop covers. They'll try everything because you have to against Luka. The one thing that I'm interested in seeing is if Porzingis is back, who do they match him up against?
If he's guarding Derrick Jones Jr. so that he can sag off and protect the paint and help out on Luka and take away some of Luka's driving lane, how does that work? And are the Mavericks able to punish that? Can Derrick Jones make enough shots to punish that? That's going to be a huge, huge theme for this series and a factor that I think could go a long way toward deciding whether Dallas is able to score enough in this series. Do you think we get a long series? We go on six.
We go on seven. What do you foresee happening? I actually think this is a really bad matchup for Dallas. I think that the Celtics just have so many guys you have to guard and Luka and Tyree, those guys have bought into defense this year, but you can go after them a little bit.
Lively has been fantastic as a rim protector, fantastic as a rookie with just his polish defensively, but I think he's going to have trouble against Porzingis and Horford, two guys who space the court as well as any big man pretty much in the game. So I just think this is a bad matchup for Dallas, as good as Luka is, as fantastic as he is, as great as Tyree Irving and his skill set is just mesmerizing. I've got Celtics in five in this series. Okay, wow Jake, Celtics in five? Should we get ready for the parade? Do I need to get like, they still do the duck parade out there? They do.
I could absolutely be wrong. It could come down to, look, Luka's a better player than anyone else in this series. He can control the game in a way that nobody on the Celtics can and maybe I'm not giving them enough credit for their defensive improvement. Over the last 20 games of the regular season, they had the best defense in the NBA. That has carried over to the playoffs. They have, they're big, they're athletic around Luka and Kyree, but I just think it's going to be a different beast for them guarding Boston and just all their shooting threats, all the guys who can put it on the floor. It's not a similar offense to Oklahoma City or Minnesota, the last two teams that the Mavericks have played.
Okay, no, I'm not, I'm not doubting you. I mean, I take a look at the Celtics. Come on now, it's a deep team. It's a deep team. Come on now, it's a deep team.
This is my final question for you, Jay. You follow this team, you cover the team. We've seen some wild parades, players getting over served and stumbling and fumbling and having a good old time. If the parade takes place for the Boston Celtics, who the hell are you keeping your eye on?
Who is must watch? I think Joe Missoula, after winning a championship, would probably be electric at the parade. I don't know what he would do, but I'm sure it would be crazy. Sam Houser, based on the shotgunning that he did in the locker room after the Eastern Conference Finals, I think he's someone to keep an eye on. That man can really shotgun a beer. Okay, Joe Missoula is going to show everybody a little bit more personality. He's going to show America a personality? Yeah, and he's done a much better job of that this season. He is a competitive, a ruthless competitor.
He's kind of crazy, and I think he's just been more comfortable being himself this year. Hey, that's all anybody could ask for. Hey, Jay, where can people follow you and your great work with The Athletic? Read up on me at The Athletic, follow me at byjking on Twitter, and listen to my podcast, Still Potable, about the Celtics.
No doubt about it. And what are you going to be doing between now and Thursday? You got a lot of time. You taking a break, too?
I do. I have a six-week-old baby boy at home, so I'll be with him a lot of the time. Beautiful, beautiful. And congratulations to you, man. Enjoy the time. It goes by fast. I appreciate it.
I sure will. My man, thank you so much to Jay King for joining us from The Athletic, without a shadow of a doubt. It's a lot of storylines, and that's what people want, right? I know the NBA on TNT is about to be done. I remember the tagline for TNT used to be, and maybe it still is, we know drama. This NBA Finals is full of drama. Yeah, even Chris Staps Porzingis going back to Dallas. Chris Staps Porzingis not as, quote unquote, problematic as, I don't know, dare I say a Kyrie Irving.
I think there's a little bit of a difference there. It's the JR Sportbrief Show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. And speaking of problematic, if you need some of the reminders, on the other side of the break, I'm going to fill you in on a few things that have just made Kyrie Irving problematic. But right now, everybody loves him. They love you when you're on top.
They got a week and a half to see if they could win the whole thing. We'll talk about Kyrie. And then I want to tell you about a man who is, this is crazy.
He's never played in the NFL. Now he's going to try. We got a lot to do. Don't move.
Don't go anywhere. It's the JR Sportbrief Show on the Infinity Sports Network. But right now, it's a newsflash with Rich Ackerman. The JR Sportbrief Show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. Thank you so much to Jay King for joining us in the last break.
Jay King covers the Celtics for the athletic. NBA Finals is set. Damn it, as soon as tomorrow, half of the NHL Stanley Cup could be set. Rangers trying to avoid elimination. Oilers and the Stars trying to finish it up. Well, not finish it up, break the tie tonight. Denver wins.
Takes a 3-2 series lead. Yeah, this is that time of year, folks. Championship season, right? June. Get the championships out the way.
It's crazy, man. The NBA, NHL, both winter sports get started in, eh, October-ish, September, October-ish. Runs all the way to June. Now we pass Memorial Day. And boom, we're going to blink. And a matter of fact, tomorrow is June 1st.
How the? I feel like we just did New Year's. I don't remember what I did for New Year's. Maybe nothing. Probably that's why. But here we are.
I mean, damn. Yeah, I did nothing. I was at home. Carlos, you know what you did for New Year's? Uh, as soon as you said you did nothing, I have started to think back.
What did I do? I don't remember either. Is, does that, is that a, does that mean you did nothing or you had a good time?
It probably means I had a good time because if I remember working, that means I didn't. Oh, there would be no in between? No, no, no. I mean, I don't mind working on New Year's Eve, just not for the countdown.
Okay. The five, four, three. No, they, they start at 10. No, do they go from, uh, they start at 60, like 59?
I'm, I'm not counting that long. I'm pretty sure most people just consistently go at 10 though. No, but I think they start at 59 and then by the time you get to 10, that's when everybody gets going. You know, it's 10, nine, eight. Get me to 10.
I think it's a minute. I've lost all, I've never had a desire to go stand out there. Like, oh, I, you're missing nothing. I did it once and I felt like such a bozo.
Where do you use the bathroom? That's exactly, that's precisely the issue. Well, that, and there were people fighting in front of us. We weren't close enough. Everything was like barricaded off. And then once it's over, you're like, all right, a hundred thousand people trying to get to the subway to get out of Dodge. It was not an enjoyable experience.
I recommend it to nobody. Yeah. Now I could have told you that, man. I could have told you that. Oh, I was in my tourist phase and a couple of buddies we wanted to go. We're like, all right, fine.
We'll go do it. But ridiculous. No bad, bad job. I mean. Oh yeah.
Yeah. Terrible idea. Because what you got to use the, you got to get there at like what?
Noon. And then you got to use the bathroom. And then once you get in, there ain't no getting out.
Right. Once you get out, forget it. It's like going to one of the arenas. Like no, no tickets are refunded. You leave.
That's it. So excuse me. I'm trying to be as clean as possible. How do you use the bathroom? Wear a diaper? I, you know what?
I can't confirm this for, but I am certain that is what a few people ahead of us did do. Oh boy. Okay. I can't do, I can't go nowhere. I can't use the bathroom for 12 hours just to watch a ball drop for 10 seconds.
No, thank you. And imagine that even if you do go through the diaper and go through all the extenuating circumstances to avoid going to a bathroom, you have to stand there in that. How committed could you be to watch this ball drop? There's there's good diapers out there. Aren't there some good diapers? I don't know.
I'm sure quality diapers and you know, maybe they can sponsor a segment or two here, but until then, no publicity and I wouldn't do it. Why are we, why are we talking about this again? What, what, what rabbit hole?
We went down the rabbit hole of New Year's Eve because neither of us can remember what we were doing. Oh yeah. It's about to be June 1st. Yeah. It makes no sense.
It makes no damn sense. Yep. Thank you for tying it together. Somebody had to remember what the hell we were doing, but anyway, yeah, it's about to be June 1st.
You got a couple of hours before the calendar kind of flips over to a new month. And then we got the NBA finals and the Stanley cup that are going to be underway. And as we just discussed with Jay King, something, this is going to be the biggest storyline, Kyrie Irving going back to Boston. And I asked him, I said, Hey, do people in Boston not like Kyrie Irving just because he said he was going to stick around. And then he reminded me about how he used to throw his teammates under the bus.
And he used to say wacky things. It just goes on and on. A matter of fact, do you need a refresher? Do you need a reminder here?
Let me help you out. This is Kyrie Irving. This is November of 2017. This man wanted to tell everybody about the earth and the fact that the earth, well, may not be round. When I started actually doing research on my own and figuring out that there is no real picture of earth, like there's not one picture of earth and we haven't been back to the movement in 1961 or 1969. And you start and then it becomes like conspiracy. He must be best friends with Aaron Rogers.
It's a possibility. And then this continued on. I mean, even when he was in Brooklyn, come on, man, the guy missed more games and he played fine. He didn't want to get vaccinated. He's doing zoom conferences with politicians. He's just all over the place in Brooklyn, got suspended for sharing that film. A lot of people consider to be antisemitic and now Kyrie Irving doesn't do anything.
But there was a point in time where he had a little bit of a beef with a reporter. This is October of 2022. It's actually hilarious because out of all the things I posted that day, that was the one post that everyone chose to chose to see. It just goes back to the way our world is and works. I'm not here to complain about it. I just exist. And to follow up on the promotion of the movie and the book, you please stop calling her a promotion. What am I promoting? You put it out on your platform. But I'm promoting it?
Do you see me doing, do you see in front of the title? People are going to say that you are promoting it. Yeah, I put it out there just like you put things out there, right? Yeah, but I... Okay.
You put things out there for a living, right? Right. But my stuff is not filled with antisemitic stuff. Let's move on. Don't dehumanize me up here. I'm not doing that. You're free to post whatever I want. So say that and shut it down and move on to the next question. But Kyrie, you have to understand that... I don't have to understand anything from you.
No, damn. Now Nick Fredell covers the Nets. I guess maybe they're both glad that he's not in Brooklyn anymore.
It just, it goes on and on and on. Well, I can tell you who likes having Kyrie Irving. It's Luca. Luca Doncic. I like saying his name like that.
Probably saying it wrong, but I like saying it like that. He's happy to have Kyrie on the team because he's a distraction. A distraction.
A distraction. Listen to him. Like I always tell you guys, it's been great to have him. You know, it helped him mature.
It helped me see the basketball in a little bit different ways. So everybody's glad he's on our team. Yeah, everybody's... Well, including Jason Kidd.
Listen to Jason talk about them. It's great. We know we still have a lot of work to do, but it's great to have Kyrie. When you have talent, you know, to be able to have a talented young man like Ky who's playing at a high level. A lot of people missed on it, but it's all right because now they're writing about that it does fit. But those two worked at it. It just didn't happen overnight. And that's a beautiful thing. And so it's all right to be wrong. We're not always right.
Yeah. You might remember when they acquired Kyrie Irving last year from the Brooklyn Nets. They were in playoff contention. They added Kyrie Irving and they fell out. You hit the fast forward button and now you look at this year. They have Kyrie Irving in addition to some other players. You bring in a Lively, you draft him, a Gafford.
You also trade for PJ Washington. This is a team that's going to the finals now. And so I guess Kyrie Irving, he should feel a little vindicated, but at the same time, there's just basketball, right? There's no vaccine mandates in New York City or Texas.
No talking about the earth and its circumference or lack thereof. No fights with the reporters. No crazy Instagram stories or live streams or meetings with politicians. It's just Kyrie Irving back to playing basketball. And the beneficiaries? The Dallas Mavericks and their new owner who I had no idea who that guy was yesterday.
I guess. Carlos, did you see the new owner from the casino man who picked up the trophy? Did you see that?
I did not. You know, this is supposed to be Mark Cuban's world. And Mark Cuban sold part of the team now for 3 billion bucks. And now he's involved in the casino business, trying to get one into downtown Dallas. And so the new guy, whatever the hell his name is, I'm like, who's this guy standing around? And they gave him the trophy. It was like a Dallas Mavericks governor. And I'm like, that's the new owner.
I said, nobody knows who this guy is and nobody cares. He just, he should agree to stick around in the back. Go get Mark Cuban. Anyway, it's the JR Support Reshow here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. It's nice to know that Kyrie is finally loved, except for in Boston and maybe Brooklyn and a few other places. Anyway, when we come back on the other side, I'm going to tell you about somebody who, for the most part, should be loved. He's a Buffalo Bill.
And he has never played football in his life. The Buffalo Bills are reaching now, aren't they, huh? They are really reaching. You're locked in. It's the JR Support Reshow here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. Oh, such a clutch pickup, Dave.
