Jim Costa with Mike Valenny. We shift the focus from football to college hoops. Playing that system that's not a system but sure plays like a system leading up to the tournament. We're looking for that value with the daily dimes. We look for the gross lines. Getting us ready for the tournament where we're going to break down all the matchups and have an eye on some future plays too. This time of year baby. It is. The JR Sport Brief Show here with you on CBS Sports Radio. I'm coming to you live from Atlanta, Georgia. Much love to everybody tuned in and locked in all over North America where I will be for the next four hours.

And this is when I start every single weekday at 6 p.m. Eastern, 3 Pacific. Wherever you're at I hope you're well. I hope you're safe.

I hope you're cool. Hope you've had a great Tuesday. Hope you had a great Monday.

Damn it I wasn't here but I also hope that you had an excellent weekend. It's good to be back. I've had no voice for the past couple of days.

It's been painful. And so I'm eager to see how things roll for the next four hours. I appreciate you for always tuning in on the free Odyssey app. Your local CBS Sports Radio affiliate. A Sirius XM Channel 158. And everybody tuned in and locked in on a smart speaker where all you have to do is ask it to play. CBS Sports Radio. Shout out to my main man Ryan Hickey holding it down on the boards in New York City.

And as always if you want to know what the hell we're going to talk about it's real simple. You can find me on social media. I'm everywhere at JR Sport Brief. You can call up and participate in the show. That is highly encouraged. The phone number is 855-212-4CBS.

That's 855-212-4CBS. There's a lot that I want to get into but before I do anything first of all Ryan Hickey how the hell are you doing man? You good? JR I am good and it's good to have you back. I missed you the last few days. Yeah it was real disappointing to be in New York for days.

And have a whole plan to sit down and work with you at least for two of them Thursday and Friday. And I started Thursday off the show felt OK. You know but by the time we got to the end of Thursday it was just it was too painful. And so thank you for holding it down. I'm here. I haven't spoken for four hours since last Thursday. And so let's see how things roll but so far so good. It's good to be back man. Yeah some people were wondering if I just scared you away.

You know we work together one day in person and all of a sudden two days you're not back. So I'm glad to put those doubts to bed. Nah not at all. No no no. There's plenty that I missed. First of all we know over the weekend Kaitlyn Clark went out and decided the bombs away more points and she's now the NCAA's all time leading scorer.

Doesn't matter if it's the men or the women's side. We know today was a big day in the NFL franchise tag deadline day. That deadline came and went about two hours ago at 4 p.m. Eastern time. And so we have some players that have been tagged. You have folks like and not not the quarterback Josh Allen but the quarterback record Josh Allen for the Jaguars. He's been tagged Antoine Winfield from the Buccaneers. He's been tagged and into the shock of no one you got somebody like Saquon Barkley and another one of his teammates Xavier McKinney.

They have not been tagged. And so we've we've had a busy weekend and then obviously you know Russell Wilson is officially been given the boot. We'll be given the boot by the Denver Broncos when the new league year starts.

There's just a lot going on. We got college players who are unionizing. We got Trey Wingo.

How about that. Trey Wingo is going to join us in about 15 minutes. Kirk Cousins a lot of Kirk Cousins talk here in Atlanta about whether or not he's moving on from the Vikings. Is he going to become a Falcon and his wife is from here in the Atlanta region. So we got Ryan Harris who played for the Broncos is going to join us as well. Ben Lieber who played for the Vikings and is now an analyst for them is going to come through and talk to us. It seems like the Steelers don't necessarily want Justin Fields.

We got Arch Manning who doesn't want to be in nobody's stinking video game. It's just a lot a lot going on. And I do want to want to get here because I wasn't here yesterday by the way. Hickey over the past I don't know two days that you've been holding it down. What the hell have I missed. What's been jumping.

What has been the topic du jour. A lot of scouting combine a lot of rumors a lot of reports a lot of guys running fast a lot of guys not running so fast. Oh boy. Oh yeah.

Breaking it all down. We got a guy who ran a 4 to 1 right wide receiver Xavier worthy. Is he. So that means he ran a 4 to 1 in the combine which means he has like terrible hands when it's time to actually catch the football in the game. He's going to suck right or get hurt. That was the history John Ross real fast couldn't be on the field to run fast. Yeah that's that's the cool part about the NFL combine.

You can measure the attributes and the skills of someone. But what happens when he gets hit. You know can he catch the ball. Yes he can run fast and I'm sure he's going to dart up somebody's you know board draft board.

But let's let's see what actually happens. And so we know the NFL has just taken over every single thing possible when it comes to the calendar for sports. And so last week was the combine. And then before we got to the combine we all know that we had the Super Bowl. Free agency will start on March 11th. The draft is April 25th. There's just so many dates that the NFL has laid out and made so public to garner attention.

And that includes what I told you today with the franchise tag. But before I get to that let's get this lady the hell up on out of here. Her name is Kaitlyn Clark. And why am I talking about Kaitlyn Clark because she continues to break records.

And plus I wasn't here yesterday to talk about it. This woman passed pistol Pete Maravich most points all time by a man or a woman in NCAA college basketball history. The game that she just participated in where Iowa beat Ohio State 93 to 83. It was the most watched women's basketball game since 1999.

We got to go back to UConn in Tennessee. Four million people at its peak. Four million people watched this game. The Celtics and the Golden State Warriors. Yeah, two NBA teams. The Celtics playing well. Golden State Warriors have picked it up.

These are two teams that might be in the NBA finals. Three million people watched that game. Yeah, that means that four million people watched the women. This was also an ass whooping.

The Celtics beat Golden State 140 to 88. This is a big deal. Kaitlyn Clark is a big deal. We know she put out her intentions to go into the WNBA draft. We know that Kaitlyn Clark is going to go out there and light it up presumably for Indiana. I don't see why not if you're dropping 35 and 32 points in college.

Why can't it translate to 20 something odd points by the time you get to the pros? And so this is from Sunday because I didn't get a chance to talk about it. This is what Kaitlyn Clark had to say about making history and breaking all these scoring records.

Tune in. So fun and so special. And like this is what we've built here. And this is these are the moments you dream of. And, you know, obviously our fans were incredible. Kind of feels like you're living in a little bit of delusion because this is just so awesome. Like honestly, if you would have told me that before my college career started, I would have laughed in your face and been like, you know, you're insane. Just to be in the same realm of all these players that have been so successful, whether it's Pete or whether it's Kelsey Plumb or Lynette Woodard, like all these people have just given so much to the game. So, you know, hopefully somebody comes after me and breaks my records and I can be there supporting them.

And that's what makes the game of basketball so fun. Did she say she she wouldn't have believed her own hype? Is that is that is that what she was saying, Hickey? She was. Wow. That's tough.

I mean, from everything that I hear. Like her dad had to find her the right competition. Her father had to have her play against boys because she was destroying the girls. And then when she played against the boys, she was whooping the boys asses and they didn't want to play against her either. And so I don't know how much of a shock it should be that Kaitlyn Clark is doing this much damage on a basketball court because it's six feet tall. Yeah, she ain't the biggest. She ain't no small woman.

Not by any stretch of the imagination. She's just gonna be out there busting ass. A matter of fact, what you just heard was from Sunday. This is Kaitlyn Clark today. She said that Sunday was her best memory of this entire season. This is what she told the Big Ten Network. I think just this past weekend at Carver, being able to be in front of our fans on Senior Night was super special.

And then Lynette Witter was here. Obviously, I had passed her the prior game at Minnesota and then obviously breaking Pete's record and then having Maya Moore in the house. So I think all of that combined made for this past Sunday to be a really special win for us. And obviously beating Ohio State who already won the conference outright is some great momentum for us going into the Big Ten Tournament. But just being surrounded by people that have supported me so much in my final regular season game at Carver was truly really special.

So if I had to pick one, I'd pick just this weekend Sunday at Carver. Good for her. Now it's just a waiting game. We have to wait to see what she does in the NCAA tournament and before we even get to the NCAA tournament.

Iowa, their next game is going to be this Friday as the Big Ten Tournament gets underway. And so we have more Kaitlyn Clark. We'll have an opportunity to see if she can drag this team to a national championship.

Hickey, I know you and I spoke about this last week. You got a guy like Jay Williams who got drafted into the NBA, wrecked his whole career by crashing into a light post on a motorcycle. This guy says that Kaitlyn Clark isn't great until she wins a championship. Well, it's hard to look at everything that she's accomplished. And because she decided to stay at home, because she decided to pass on some of these gigantic teams like the South Carolinas and the Yukons of the world. I find that to be even as impressive whether she wins a championship or not.

You don't bust everybody's ass. You don't go out there and score the most points by any man or woman in college basketball history and not be great. And so congratulations to Kaitlyn Clark.

The country will continue to tune in to see what she does. We got this last week. I cannot remember at any point in time where any woman has been as hyped.

I don't mean to say any man. We saw Zion a few years ago. Grant Hill had a lot of hype.

Shaq had a lot of hype. I can't recall a woman getting this much attention and people eagerly anticipating what she could do on the college side. Things are just getting started for Kaitlyn Clark. I hope really that it is just the beginning. Now that's for Kaitlyn Clark. I already told you that today on the NFL.

Average career is three, three and a half years. And then they get you the hell up on out of there. Well these players that I'm about to mention to you. These players have quote on quote. They've paid their dues. They've had their time. They've gone through their rookie contracts. And they now have an opportunity to continue on in the NFL.

God bless them. And some of these players because the NFL team can keep you for at minimum four years, pick up a fifth year, tag you for two years before the numbers get nuts. They can potentially keep you cost prohibitive for seven years to start your career. Seven years.

These players they've been tagged. The team basically says you're not leaving here unless we trade you. You're not leaving here unless we come to terms on a long term agreement. You're not leaving here until next year. Or unless we trade you.

And so players that have been tagged shouldn't go anywhere. Not expected to go anywhere. Josh Allen is sticking around with the Jags.

I mentioned him. He's going to earn the top average or the top five salaries when it comes to the linebackers. He's going to make 24 mill a year. Brian Burns is going to stick around with Carolina Panthers. T. Higgins. He ain't even Jamar Chase.

My apologies. But he's not Jamar Chase. He's hurt. He's going to make 21 million dollars a year. At least Joe Burrow, if he's healthy, is going to have somebody else to throw the ball to. The Chicago Bears not letting go of Jalen Johnson.

They're still trying to work out a long term contract. Antoine Winfield probably the best safety in the NFL. This guy is tackling everything. He's sacking quarterbacks. He's deflecting passes. He's playing deep. He's playing in the box.

He's playing in the middle of the field. He has been tagged. Lajarius Snead isn't going anywhere. Kansas City Chiefs are going to keep him around. He's been tagged. Chris Jones? Not tagged.

Not to say that they can't come to a long term agreement. Michael Pittman? Tagged.

Colts are keeping him around. Hickey, you feel good about that? You like that?

Or is that too much money for this guy? No, I'm excited. I'm excited.

Good start. Got to keep him around for hopefully what is going to be a good year for Anthony Richardson. How long before Anthony Richardson gets hurt? It's March.

What is it? March 5th? Can I have some optimism? I'm going to say week?

Two. You're going to say week 18? Never. Not this year.

He's playing all 17. End of playoffs. Let's go. Let's get nuts.

Okay. I'm just saying I see him dropping that shoulder and then I don't know disappearing for a couple of weeks. Good on Michael Pittman to hopefully be out there for Anthony Richardson to throw him the ball. Now here's some players that have not been tagged and this means that they are going directly into free agency.

This doesn't mean that they're not returning to their current or old teams. Saquon Barkley will have an opportunity to test the market. We know nobody wants to pay a damn free agent running back so the New York Giants may get a steal. Same thing with Josh Jacobs. He was franchise tagged last year. Josh Jacobs not tagged. He has a chance to be a free agent. Calvin Ridley wide receiver for the Jacksonville Jaguars. If you have any concerns surrounding him it's that hopefully he doesn't gamble. And then Baker Mayfield also not tagged but let's be real Baker Mayfield is likely to stick around with Tampa Bay especially with them bringing back Mike Evans. So I think a lot of these dudes you know maybe Saquon Barkley ends up elsewhere but I wouldn't be shocked if Saquon or even Josh Jacobs just return to their most recent teams. The running backs they're screwed. We knew this already.

This is nothing new. You're locked into the JR Sport Brief Show here with you on CBS Sports Radio. There's so much that we have to get into. We're going to talk about Arch Manning already a boss and the man has not even thrown five passes in college.

I'll explain. We're going to talk about Kirk Cousins and where he can go. We're going to talk about Dak Prescott. He has some words about the Cowboys.

March Madness is upon us. The Steelers reportedly don't want Justin Fields. We got Russell Wilson going to be out from Denver. We have college players who are joining unions. There's a lot going on but on the other side we're going to talk to a familiar voice to many.

His name is Trey Wingo. It's the JR Sport Brief Show. Happy to be back here on CBS Sports Radio.

Baseball lives right here on the free Odyssey app. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief on CBS Sports Radio. It is the JR Sport Brief Show here with you on CBS Sports Radio. So so happy to be back and in good health but right now I'm also happy to be joined by someone who's been covering sports for a long time.

Someone who knows the ins and outs of the NFL. He's also now hosting the alternate route podcast with Kevin Frazier, the chasing it podcast with Chase Daniel. This man is free to do whatever the hell he wants to do and there's nothing like it in America. Joining us right now is Trey Wingo. Trey, thank you for taking the time to hop on. Oh man, good to be with you. How are you? I'm good. I'm good. I love the fact that you have freedom to do what you want. You don't have to ask anybody. Tell us what the hell you've been up to in all the projects that you're working on.

Thank you, man. Yeah, the big one is the one you just mentioned, Alternate Routes is a podcast with Amazon and Wondery. Wondery is the biggest name in the podcast and Amazon is obviously the biggest company in the world so we're thrilled to be working with them. Myself and my former SportsCenter co-host Kevin Frazier and we basically take one play, one decision in sports and say what happened if it went the exact opposite way.

For example, what happened if the Seahawks had handed the ball off to Marshawn Lynch in Super Bowl 49 instead of throwing it inside of their fifth best receiver? And we take it out as far as we can take it, a real sort of sliding doors effect. So it's out on Wondery Plus today and it'll be out everywhere where you get your podcasts on March 12th. There's some really fun ones that we've recorded, we've got a bunch more to do, we're really excited about it. But it's just spinning whatever we think we know and making one change in it and sort of the butterfly effect and how far it goes and changes the sports world as we know it.

Beautiful, well congratulations. Trey Wingo's here with us, the JR Sport Reshow on CBS Sports Radio. You talk about one little change can make a whole big ol' difference. We know that today was pretty much the deadline for NFL teams to go ahead and tag their franchise players. Certainly, no big surprises when it comes down to folks like Saquon Barkley. Is there someone who got tagged today or did not get tagged today that caught your attention?

Well, there's a couple of them, right? Obviously, Chris Jones is probably the biggest name out there. But I think that both he, his representatives and the Chiefs are fairly confident that they'll find a way to get something done. I mean, I think that's why they chose to put the non-exclusive tag on Lajerious Sneed. My philosophy has always been, and Lajerious Sneed by the way is one hell of a cover corner, don't get me wrong. You could make the argument that Sneed on one side and all pro Trent McDuffie on the other side, Chiefs had the two best cover corners in football last season. But for me, if I'm building a defense, a cover corner takes away one wide receiver, a great pass rush takes away all of them. So for me, and I think the Chiefs and GM Brett Beech feel the same way, they have to get Chris Jones done.

And I think that's going to get done. The entire running back market didn't get tagged. There's literally nobody that got tagged. It just continues to show the devaluation of the running back position. And it's tough for these guys because they're, a lot of them are really good at what they do. But when you see guys come in like an Isaiah Pacheco in the seventh round for the Kansas City Chiefs and the production they've been able to get out of him, it makes it hard to pony up the big bucks for a running back. When you know that's a position, when you talk about value as opposed to dollar deposit, you can probably get a much better deal somewhere else outside one of these big names. Without a shadow of a doubt, Trey Wingo here with us on the JR Sport Brief Show. You talk about the devaluation of running backs, not to say that they're going to be playing for pennies, but we know that they ain't going to get the best of deals. Is there any particular running back who you think might or has the best chance of ending up in a different uniform?

Well, I mean, I do think that Saquon and the Giants feel like, I mean, there could be a whole mess of changes going in New York, you know, there are a lot of reports out there that people think the Giants already moved on from Daniel Jones as well. Look, Saquon is interesting, right? Because when he's healthy, he's as good as anybody.

The problem has been those three words, when he's healthy. So many of these running backs, you know, they say, hey, our injury rate is not that much different, but it is because of the nature of the position. I think the average running back career in the league is two and a half to three years based on the position and the collisions that they come into.

It's not a contact sport, football is a collision sport. And Saquon is a guy that has unbelievable talent, can help you in the running game and can help you in the receiving game. But just like all the other top running backs, he's had to battle the injury bug. I think Saquon could make a difference at a pretty decent dollar amount for a good team.

Austin Eckler was the same way. Outside of this past year, he was a touchdown machine. I think the last two years he had over 40 combined touchdowns. Things went a little sideways this year, but this is what you have to worry about when you've got a guy that's four or five years into the league.

How much longer do you see that top level production? Well, Trey, you know what? It's not just the running backs who might be moving around. We spent the past couple of weeks and even now talking about some of the QBs. We know Russell Wilson officially is going to be let go by the Denver Broncos. There are certainly rumors now about Kirk Cousins making his way down here to Atlanta.

What are some of your thoughts on who might move there? Even Justin Fields. We know he's likely to be gone. Yeah, I'll say this about the Justin Fields situation. That's obviously where a lot of attention is because of where the Bears are drafting.

They have those two first round picks. Everyone loves drafting a quarterback until they don't get it right, and then it's the worst thing in the world. Look, Caleb Williams could turn out to be great. I'm not denigrating anything with Caleb or if you feel more towards Jayden Daniels or whomever. But quarterback drafting is not really a science.

It's more of an art and educated guesswork. The best way I can describe it is let's take a look at two back to back quarterback drafts in the first round and see how it's going. In 2020, you had Joe Burrow first overall. I think that's worked out.

You had Tua Tongo by a while ago. I think that's worked out. You have Justin Herbert.

That's worked out. Then you have Jordan Love, who was a surprise pick by the Packers, and I think in the end that's going to work out, and Jaylen Hurts to the Eagles in the second round has looked really good. Now let's just go one year later, 2021. Trevor Lawrence, first overall. And there wasn't a scout GM or personnel guy that wouldn't have said, take Trevor Lawrence in the first round.

He ticked every box. They regressed this year. I think he led the league in fumbles.

They didn't make the playoffs after making the playoffs a year ago, so the jury's still out. Zach Wilson went number two. Well, Zach Wilson will never start again for the NFL barring massive injuries for whatever team he's second or third string on. Then you have Trey Lance, whom the 49ers traded three first round picks to get. He was inactive for the Dallas Cowboys as a third string quarterback when they got blown off the field by Jordan Love and the Packers.

Then you have Justin Fields, who might be traded. And then you have Mac Jones who lost his job to Bailey Zappi. Like everyone falls in love with these quarterbacks during the draft, but just understand it doesn't work out as much as it does work out, or maybe even it doesn't work out even more. Anthony Richardson last year was supposed to be the most athletic, freakish, strong, fast quarterback we've ever seen. He couldn't finish a game.

He literally could not finish a game before he was injured for the rest of the year. It is a crapshoot, man. So if you're going to move on from Justin Fields and not use all these draft picks that you have to build around him with guys like Marvin Harrison to go a long time, DJ Moore and Cole Komet and everything else, you better make sure you're right, otherwise you become the Jets. Darnold Zach Wilson to 40-year-old Aaron Rodgers and who knows what he's going to be after the Achilles.

Yeah, pretty ugly, we know that. Trey Wingo joining us here on CBS Sports Radio, the JR Sport Reef show. We know that there are a lot of prospects, especially quarterbacks on their way in. For the two-plus decades that you spent at ESPN, you certainly know about draft coverage. What are your thoughts on just how the players seem to have a little bit more pull when it comes to whether or not they need to participate in what has now been pretty much known as the Underwear Olympics?

Yeah, listen, I'm glad you brought that up because the players do have more empowerment because I think people don't understand this, okay? The run-up from when your college football season ends, whether it's at the regular season or a bowl game, playoffs, whatever, your entire job as a player is to increase your value during that run. And so Caleb Williams is likely going to be the number one overall pick.

So it's his job to make sure that he does nothing to decrease his value. There's nothing that he could do at the combine, in my opinion, whether it was his medicals or his throwing or doing whatever, that would change the years of film you have on Caleb Williams. When people say, well, what are you afraid to compete?

Well, go look at the film. Clearly, he's not afraid to compete. What he's doing is making a smart business decision, much in the same way so many of these players, if they're not competing for a national championship, have decided to skip bowl games.

It's not worth the downside risk. Players do get hurt at the combine. Players do get hurt at pro days. You want to maximize your value, and they're understanding that concept better. Jayden Daniels is the same way. If you think you're going to see something at the combine, it's going to change your opinion of Jayden Daniels. I question what you've been doing scouting for the last couple of years, okay? So it's smart for these players to understand the business of what they're doing. Maximize your value.

The other side is also true. Teams are trying to decrease players' value so they can maybe get them later than they thought they were going to get them by potentially leaking out some information. The combine is great for teams or players that need to prove something. For players that have already proven where their stock is, a combine, if you really want to be honest about it, is a meaningless exercise for them.

Without a shadow of a doubt. Well, listen, Trey, I want to ask you this question in finality just based on so much of your experience from now the digital space and the traditional space. We see so many changes going on in the sports media landscape from, I don't want to say the elimination of cable, but the elevation of streaming. We see the ESPNs and Foxes coming together to combat the Apples and the Amazons of the world. Where do you see sports media going in five, ten years? It moves so fast right now.

Yeah, well, in the way it's trending, whatever the next thing is that we'll figure out the next couple of years, that's where it's going to go. Like, Roger Goodell had a great line at the Super Bowl at his press conference. He does the State of the League press conference every year. People were very upset about the game that was put on Peacock between the Chiefs and the Dolphins, the playoff game, the first ever playoff game streamed instead of over traditional routes. And it shattered numbers.

It broke things. But Roger had a really good line. He said, we have to fish where the fish are. And that's where the fish are.

The fish are in streaming. The money is in streaming. That's where a lot of dollars are going. That's where a lot of advertisers are. More importantly, and this is so critical, that's where the younger demographic is watching things.

They have to fish where the fish are. And I think we're continuing to see that trend. Live sports is the only thing that keeps television and cable basically going, right? I think 70 plus shows or 80 plus shows on television last year, the top 100 were all NFL football games.

Like this is the thing that keeps it going. It's the only thing that's a destination event on traditional television or cable anymore. You know, I'll Shogun, the new series from Hulu, I'll check it out when I have time. What's new on Netflix? You know, I'll watch that whenever I get a second.

Live television or live sporting events and live football games, NFL specifically, is the thing that drives the bus and they're going to go wherever they think the dollars and the viewers are. Absolutely. Well, listen, you're in an excellent position with the content that you're creating and your experience. Trey, tell us one more time where we can keep up with you and all of your work. Thanks very much.

Yeah. The alternate routes drops today. I do stuff for the 33rd team. I post stuff for them. I also do a podcast with Chase Daniel, the longtime backup quarterback there called Chasemit and that's available wherever you get your podcasts.

We drop that every week. I work with my old buddy Mark Schlerit on the stunt app. It's basically Twitter just for sports. So if your feed is loaded down with everything that you don't care about, it's just sports takes and just sports conversations and live rooms on the stunt app.

You can download it in the app store or Google Play if you're on an Android device. And I also do work with the PGA Tour and we'll do some stuff for golf for NBC Sports this summer. So we're looking forward to all of that. Beautiful. Listen, Trey, we're going to talk soon. I appreciate you coming through to share all your insight. You got it, man. Anytime.

Take care. No doubt about it. That Trey Wingo, formerly of ESPN, you just heard about all the creative works and shows and podcasts that he's working on. You got to appreciate that. I mean, in the modern world that we live in, especially where sports is, as he said, and we say this on the show all the time, it's what keeps content.

It's the last pretty much live of anything that keeps people going. I mean, outside of sports and award shows, I don't know if people are watching outside of on demand. And then even to think about award shows, come on, what do we got, the Grammys? What else? The Academy Awards?

We got other award shows people don't even give a damn about anymore, MTV Awards and what have you. So thank you again to Trey Wingo for joining us and sharing insight not just on the media landscape but also the NFL. That Trey Wingo. If you missed the interview and all of it or you want to hear it again, you can go ahead and hit rewind on the free Odyssey app. It's the JR Sport Reshow here with you on CBS Sports Radio. Happy to be back. Happy to know that my voice has been working for the past, I don't know, 35 minutes and we're going to continue to roll on.

We know that media is changing. And today this morning, there was a funny story. I'll say a funny story about an athlete in college who has said no to money.

You heard that correctly. There is an athlete in college who said no to money. I'm going to explain who this is on the other side because who doesn't want money? I guess money can, hey, Hickey, in college, can't you get money for like your food card or something? Aren't college students poor and hungry? Oh, my friends would do a lot of things for money in college. Not me, but friends. A lot of classmen donated. Not you, but people do anything for money.

Yes. I'm afraid of needles. I would not go to the plasma donation center. That was too much for me.

They give you free cookies. You ever see those needles? Too big.

Too big. To take blood donation? Yes.

Oh, yeah. Well, free cookies. They pay you too. They gave money away for blood donation.

50 bucks a week. Oh, my God. I would give away blood. I've given away blood for cookies.

I have. So there you go. College kids will do anything for money.

Sign me up. I thought I've been getting flim-flammed. I've given away blood for cookies. They were giving away 50 bucks. And getting robbed. 75 too for the first two times you go. Oh, we're going to have to talk about this.

I'm about to lay out in the street and just say, somebody run over me or something like that. That's a good amount of money. Anyway, we'll tell you which college athlete doesn't want money on the other side of the break. You're listening to the J.R. Sportbrief on CBS Sports Radio. It's the J.R. Sportbrief show here with you on CBS Sports Radio. Thank you so much, media veteran, television host, podcast host, everything host. Thank you to Trey Wingo for joining us in the last break to talk about his new podcast with former SportsCenter host Kevin Frazier called The Alternate Route. Thank you for talking to us about today, the NFL franchise tag day, and then just talking also as well about the changing landscape of sports media.

If you missed the conversation with Trey Wingo, you can go ahead and hit rewind on the free Odyssey app. Speaking of changing media, last week, maybe even two weeks ago, we had a conversation here on air about a video game. Yes, for all the football fans out there who love a good video game, we know about the Madden's of the world, the NBA 2K's, Mike Tyson punch out depending on how old you are, but there's also a classic that's going to be coming back out this summer. It's EA Sports College Football 25. The game has been dormant for the better part of a decade because of all the, let's just say, complications between college athletes, NIL, the ability to earn money. They just can't throw these athletes into a game and them not make any money off of it.

Well, that's different now. Now that they've brought back EA Sports College Football 25, all the college players have had the opportunity to quote on quote, opt into the game and then make $600. That's $600 a guy, a $600 a player. You can opt into the game and you get 600 bucks, OK? Unfortunately, 10,000 student athletes, 10,000 college football players have said yes.

This is 87% of EA Sports College Football, their goal. Now, despite this, there's one player in particular who said, nah, no thanks. I don't want the money. I want you to listen to this from KVUE down in Texas, the television station. They're going to tell us what players said no, what college athlete said no to the money.

Listen. You won't find Texas quarterback Arch Manning in the next EA Sports College Football 25 video game this summer. The red shirt quarterback opted out of the deal.

EA Sports launched a new name image likeness deal to pay players $600 and a copy of the game to appear in the game. Texas starting QB Quinn Ewers opted into the deal. Hickey, does Arch Manning need 600 bucks?

No, no, it is not. I'm just making sure. The last time I checked, both Eli and Peyton made a combined $500 million just on their contracts, just on their sporting contracts with the New York Giants, with the Broncos, with the Colts. They made half a billion dollars just on the NFL contracts. We all know about his dad or his, excuse me, we all know about Arch Manning's dad. Cooper didn't get a chance or an opportunity to play in the NFL, had spinal stenosis. It was encouraged for him to stop playing the game.

No shock there. We know football is dangerous. I mean, his brother Peyton needed his whole neck basically reconstructed and fused together. So Arch Manning, if there was going to be a prospect in a college video game that did not need the money, does not need your flimsy 600 bucks, it's going to be Arch Manning.

Now reportedly, of course, everyone has a source. It's been said that he wants to wait until he is the man, the starting quarterback at Texas before he accepts any of this video game money. Arch Manning also, by the way, for as famous as his last name is, I guess he wants to stand on his own. He is not accepting NIL money. I mean, outside of Panini of America, the trading cards, Arch Manning ain't taking a dime and you can venture behind. He's received many offers to just show up, show face, take a picture, and let everybody know what his last name is. Arch Manning, not going to be an EA Sports college football 25.

You don't need just 600 bucks, 855-212-4CBS, that's 855-212-4CBS, you could have taken the money and given it to me, I'll take it. Hey James, it's Collin from Atlanta, you're on the JR Sport Brief Show, what's up James? Hey Jair, I was just wondering what you thought about the Falcons new head coach Raheem Morris. I like Raheem Morris, I think it's nice that Raheem Morris is going to be back. I like the fact that Raheem Morris is going to be taking over a team that has plenty of weapons, they just need a quarterback. I like the fact that it seems that players across the league respect Raheem Morris, so I think most importantly for the Falcons is who's going to be playing quarterback. So I got no issues with the coach up until now, okay James?

Okay. Alright, thank you so much James for calling from Atlanta, him or Belichick, right? Wants to give Belichick the keys to the castle, obviously nobody, 855-212-4CBS, Lee is here from Cincinnati, you're on the JR Sport Brief Show, go ahead Lee. Hey thank you for taking my call JR, and I got to add to what James is just asking about with Atlanta, here's what Atlanta needs to do in my opinion, because tell me, if Atlanta would have had Russell Wilson last year, okay, as a quarterback, how do you think they would have done? Oh I think they would have won the NFC South and gone to the playoffs. Exactly, so what they need to do this coming year in my opinion, they need to get Russell Wilson on next to, they won't have to hardly pay him anything, they'll still have all the weapons, and then they need to draft Michael Pinnix Jr., and that way they'll have their quarterback for the future and the quarterback for now, and they'll be playoff foul for the next couple of years, what do you think?

I think that's a lot to go ahead and take a quarterback at number 8, Russell Wilson I can certainly understand, and thank you Lee for calling from Cincinnati, Russell Wilson I can certainly understand if you want to add him as a quarterback, but now to double up and immediately take another quarterback at number 8 and eventually tell Russell Wilson hey go kick rocks, and it's tricky, because then you're setting yourself up, if you do have success with Russell Wilson, you got to think about a couple of years down the line, you might as well have a, I don't want to call it an Aaron Rodgers situation with Jordan Love, you know Aaron Rodgers was there for a long time, but it's similar, and why would Russell Wilson want to join a team, and he may not have a choice, why would he want to join a team that he comes in and he's babysitting and now he's got to think about his next gig, I don't know how attractive that's going to be, I think Russell Wilson might want to join a team where he feels that hey I'm going to be the guy, Falcons though, I think it'd be pretty foolish to take Russell Wilson, to draft a quarterback at 8, and then just, I don't know man, that's a little too much, the Falcons need defensive help, okay, and to take a quarterback or sign Russell Wilson and then go add another dude, that's a little dangerous if you ask me, I'm going to go ahead and avoid that one. It is the JR Sportbriest show here with you on CBS Sports Radio, I'll certainly get some more of your calls on the other side, that's 855-212-4CBS, that's 855-212-4CBS, speaking of the other side, since there's so much conversation right now about what the Falcons should do at quarterback, and I got a call on Raheem Morris, we're going to talk about another guy, he's been rumored to come to the Falcons, his name, Kirk Cousins, but I thought he was going to give Minnesota a discount, we're going to talk about it here, CBS Sports Radio, the JR Sportbriest show, don't move. Dana Carvey and David Spade here, you might know our podcast, Fly on the Wall. We decided to do a spinoff called Superfly, and it's fun, it's just two of us riffing on current events, pop culture, when I looked up the flight, when that door flew off, these people were dead silent, everyone's just quiet, I don't think I could contain it, I think that's free rein to wail on your call button in that situation, bong bong bong bong, hey, I don't want to be a pest, was there a door when I got out? Listen to and follow Superfly on the Odyssey app, or wherever you get here, podcast.
