JR believes too many people are crapping on Bill Belichick these days

His name is Peter Baldwin, and he's the founder of Bird Dogs Shorts. You've probably seen him on Shark Tank, where Mark Cuban obliterated his pitch. Look, Mark, he'll admit it.

The invention of the first ever stretch khaki shorts that feel amazing, look amazing, and can wear literally anywhere wasn't his best idea. But he's got more, like Dog Trader. Just like Auto Trader, but you can sell your old dog.

Eh? Mark, I know you'd invest if you just gave him one more shot. So go to BirdDogs.com slash radio and join the two million men who think Bird Dogs shorts are a great idea.

Or DM Mark Cuban and tell him to give Peter one more shot. Thank you to everybody tuned in and locked in all over North America. So you could be as far as Vancouver. You could be in Honolulu. You could be in Maine. You could be closer to me in Miami. You could be in New Orleans. You could be in San Diego.

You could just color in the dots. Fill in the whole damn map. Go go further up. Go to Montreal or something.

I don't know. Thank you for being here. You could be locked in on your local CBS Sports Radio affiliate. You could be listening on the free Odyssey app at UDACY, Sirius XM Channel 158 or smart speaker.

Thank you very much. Super producer and host Dave Shepherd. He's holding it down for us in New York City, and we've had a busy night. I think our last caller.

Oh, my God. If you missed him before the break, Douglas. Hey, Shep, where'd he call from? New Orleans?

You'd be correct. Man, is he still talking somewhere? Is he still going? Unfortunately for us, he's not. OK, wow. He's probably somewhere.

Damn. He's like, hey, how you talk about Houston Astros cheating and Bill Belichick? No, man, we talk about Bill Belichick a lot.

Why? Because people love football. People don't love baseball the same damn way. When we talk about the Astros for what I'm supposed to say about them right now, nothing. People care about the Patriots. Been the most successful football team in the NFL for the better part of two decades. And now they're talking about Bill Belichick. He's on the hot seat. So, I mean, there's a reason to talk about him every time I mention Bill Belichick.

I'm not going to talk about the flake gate. Hey, Douglas. When they give you a show on W.W.L. down in New Orleans for you to talk about sports, maybe after my main man Bobby Hebert. Maybe, maybe, uh, maybe you can talk about Belichick every day and tell everybody that he's a cheater. I don't know. Maybe Bill Belichick has a camera in your house right now, Douglas.

I don't know. Bill Belichick. Everything that he accomplished, he just cheated everything. Yep. Lawrence Taylor cheated. He cheated. Lawrence Taylor cheated. Yeah.

Bill Belichick gave him the Coke. I don't know. Come on.

Damn. Anyway, outside of Douglas and hopefully he saved some air on the planet for the rest of us. We got a lot more to do. We talked about the Kansas City Chiefs. Patrick Mahomes showing up early to training camp. We talked about Belichick on the hot seat of Sante Samuel just throwing him under the bus and just rolling back and forth. And we heard from Kirby Smart. SEC Media Day. Kirby Smart is just like, yeah, our biggest threat to three peating is just complacency.

So we've talked about a lot. A matter of fact, just just because of Sante Samuel was hilarious in speaking to Brian McFadden. Let's hear from a Sante Samuel and get his thoughts on Bill Belichick.

Let's hear that again. Is he the best coach in the NFL history? Absolutely not. Are you crazy?

Why not? Well, look at his record without Tom. You got to win without Tom. So you're telling me. What's the thing I learned about being great?

You got to be great in different situations. It was all Tom. I was there. I saw it. It was Tom. Everybody know it. Tom know it.

But he ain't going to admit it because he want to be politically correct. That's why I'm here. That's why I'm going to tell the truth. And you're not afraid.

And you got experience to talk the truth. I've been there. I've seen it. I confronted him. We've been through it.

And that's how I do. OK. All right. OK, fine. It just sounds like a delusional ex player to me. And you would think a player would would have a little bit more more say, more understanding of what went on. Bill Belichick has given credit to Tom Brady, knowing that, hey, if I don't got Tom Brady, man.

Yeah. What am I doing? If I had Kirk Cousins out here as my QB, things ain't moving. There's no expectation that I'm sorry that Drew Bledsoe would do what this man did, especially the fact that he's older. Let's just leave Bill Belichick alone. Crap on him for the draft. Crap on him for free agency.

But to say that this dude is just, oh, he ain't nothing. Not one of the greatest coaches without Tom Brady is not fair. It's not easy to dominate for two decades. Keep the ship afloat for two decades.

Let's think about this. Keep the system. Have a place where Tom Brady can operate for two decades.

And that's all Tom Brady. Stop it. Please. Stop.

Always something to complain about. Give this man his due. He's one of the most successful coaches in the league. You want to tell me that he has you got cameras in your bedroom? Is he cheated his way to the top?

Like, come on, stop it. He's one of the greatest football minds the world has ever seen. And I can tell you this, and I'm not somebody who sits around and goes, oh, my God, I need to know this and know that. I was actually gifted years ago with Bill Belichick's book. Bill Belichick is a football savant. It's in his family. It's in his blood. This is what he knows inside and out.

There was so much to actually learn about Bill Belichick. There's no surprise that he's had the amount of success that he's had because he knows football, man. He does.

He also has two rings with the New York Giants. And you know what he also does? He gives a whole lot of credit to the players that were there. But he puts his players in a position to succeed.

His ideology is to be admired. He's not someone who thinks that he knows it all, but he's prepared for it. He knows it's the players. He's not that arrogant.

He's a jerk to the media. But he ain't that arrogant from a football perspective to not give credit to his players. Somebody has to organize the team. Somebody has to lay the groundwork. Somebody has to lay the foundation. Somebody has to cultivate the environment. That's not the players. The players make it move. Somebody has to give them a canvas to work with. Somebody has to inform them, hey, we want you to ply your art and ply your trade.

We want you to color in between these lines. That's the coach. And Bill Belichick is one of the greatest. It's not an argument about who the greatest is.

People will run up and down and give you a different name. Bob from Maryland. God bless him. Vince Lombardi. Who's going to argue? Somebody might tell you Don Shuler. Who's going to argue? Somebody might tell you Belichick. Who's going to argue? Who cares? There's a lot of great coaches sitting around arguing about, oh, my God, this guy is the greatest and the best.

OK, everybody's going to have their opinion. But to not put Bill Belichick in a conversation is ridiculous. Asante Samuel. Go coach your son. He's looking great for the Chargers. Or maybe stay away from the Chargers. Stay away.

There's always something to complain about. 855-212-4CBS. It's 855-212-4CBS. He's a cheater. That's it.

Everything he did in life, he recorded. Chris is calling from Colorado. You're on the JR Sport Brief Show. Hey, Jay.

Our first time caller here. I agree with you on the Bill Belichick theme. People want to throw Tom Brady out there as if he ran that team. With every other coach, with every great coach, they're going to have a great player with it.

That just makes sense. Bill Jackson had Jordan, Kobe, Shaq. Bill Belichick had Tom Brady. But remember the first three Super Bowls? Tom Brady wasn't that dude until the second go around.

But the next three. Bill Belichick's defense carries him to those Super Bowls. And that's what makes him a brilliant coach.

He was a game manager and so he got let loose. You're 100% correct, yes. Exactly. And I agree with that. And the people who want to throw the cheating out there. Don't look at the cheating. Look at the history for over 20 years that he's had that team going. Yeah, it's a full body of work, man.

I don't know. People want to look at the hot shot thing. It's always what stands out in front and what makes people jump.

It's tough leading any player. Especially, I don't think people understand this. And thank you, Chris, for calling for Colorado.

I don't think people understand. We heard from Patrick Mahomes last hour about repeating. The last NFL team that repeated was 03 and 04.

It's not easy to repeat. Let alone sit at the top for 20 years. I don't care who the hell a quarterback is. Tom Brady, we could we could scratch his name off and give it an arbitrary name. It could be it could be John Doe quarterback.

And this could be the New England Rat Dogs. OK, I don't care what the team is. It's not easy to maintain that type of success for 20 years in professional sports. OK, not with the way salaries are constructed, not with egos. To be able to maintain the same philosophy for 20 years is ridiculous.

And so anybody who craps on him is just it's short sighted. It really is. Dale is calling from Birmingham.

You're on the Gerald sport. It's going good there. What's great?

I just want to say you guys said everything pretty much. It's just amazing how you can be so successful and be in the area. What have you done for me lately? You know. The man is great.

He's a mastermind. That's all. Well, that's that's the world that we live in now. So what have you done for me lately? World. Cue up the Janet.

What have you done for me lately? That's that's all people remember. And so now Bill Belichick needs to get crapped on. And look, I'm not going to argue whether or not it's time for a new voice. If the Patriots stink this year, they're going to be so many conversations about. Oh, is it time for Bill Belichick to go? Is it time for Bill Belichick to leave? And those conversations might be legitimate. I mean, you hear and you see and you read the stories. People are looking at Gerard Mayo and saying, oh, well, he can he can come through and take over if Bill Belichick is gone.

And at this point, what you holding on to? Are things going to deteriorate? Do you think that he can can kind of maintain what Bill Belichick has done? Is Bill Belichick going to want to go upstairs and and just kind of chime in from time to time?

I don't think so. If Bill Belichick is going to be told, hey, we don't want you as coach. I think Bill Belichick is going to say, I screw you. I'm gone.

We'll go sit on the beach in the boat with my my girlfriend and my my my husky, which is his dog. And he just call it a day. Sometimes you've got to be careful what you you ask for.

Sometimes the grass isn't always greener on the other side. There's going to come a day. There's going to come a time where Bill Belichick is gone. He ain't coaching forever. If you think about Bill Belichick, he's 71 years old. That is certainly not ancient.

It's old. If you want to think about an NFL head coach, I don't think Bill Belichick has lost anything in regards to sharpness, in regards to enthusiasm. This is what he loves. This is what he's done. This is in his blood.

This is in his family. But look, if he stinks, if the team stinks, they're going to tell Bill Belichick sooner than later. Hey, man, bro, you you got to go. It's time to move on. Is he going to move on on his own? Or is Robert Kraft going to tell him, hey, Bill, I think it's time to go?

It's going to come at some point, I think, over the next five years, maybe sooner. Eight five five two one and two for CBS. Eric is calling from Texas. What's up, Eric? Hey, Jerry, thanks for taking my call.

Sure. Hey, I just want to bring out, I think I'm with you. I think Coach Belichick's one of the top coaches. I don't know if he's greatest, but he's one of the one of the.

And I'll tell you why. When Buffalo had that bad weather game against Patriots, Belichick, he just pounded it and pounded it, pounded. And he didn't switch like he knew that if Buffalo stopped him, that his defense was going to stop Buffalo. I think they won six nothing. I can't remember the end of the score, but I thought that was genius.

Well, I don't even I don't even know how many times because we've had it for 20 years where I have looked or watched the game. And Bill Belichick has manipulated the clock, manipulated timeouts, manipulated the rules to his advantage, while other head coaches are kind of standing there scratching their asses. And that's that's not something that everybody can just wake up and do. I mean, we can look at enough coaches who make decisions and you just go, what is he doing? Like, I'm sitting at home and it's easy for me to do from my couch. But what are you doing?

And then you got Bill Belichick outsmarting the competition strategically at so many steps along the way. That's something that stands out to me. Eric, I appreciate it. Have a good night. Thank you. You as well. Shout outs to everybody calling and listening out in Texas.

It's the J.R. sport we show here with you on CBS Sports Radio. But some folks are never going to be happy. It doesn't matter what you do or what you present or or what you do. They're just going to be miserable. And speaking of that, you got a lot of miserable NFL players. This doesn't have anything to do with Bill Belichick. We got NFL players mad at their Madden ratings.

Yes, NFL players upset about a video game. We'll talk about it on the other side. I'll get some more of your calls. Eight five five two one two four CBS is the J.R. sport brief show CBS Sports Radio.

You're listening to the J.R. sport brief on CBS Sports Radio. Hey, how you doing, man? I listen to you every night on the way home from work. I appreciate what you're doing, man.

You're a bad mamma jamma. Call in now at eight five five two one two four CBS. It's the J.R. sport brief show on CBS Sports Radio. Told you people always going to find something to complain about. What are what's the what's the more recent complaint?

Part of me, while I take a deep breath. Madden ratings. Yes, from a video game. Madden. We've heard professional athletes kind of rail about their video game ratings in the past, but it continues on. Madden 24 is on its way and EA Sports has decided to, you know, sit down with a few of the players and and talk to them about. Their ratings, talk to them about where they stand in the game now. Now, I haven't played Madden and I don't know a long time. OK, if I turned on Madden right now, I'd probably get my ass whooped by somebody who just plays. I don't know.

I guess people still make money off of it. Same game. I don't I don't have no PlayStation five. I don't I don't have time to sit down and play. I don't I don't know. But somebody cares about Madden.

Somebody does. The players, I guess. And so Aaron Donald is rated a ninety nine again. When you get to these video games, nobody is rated 100 basketball, football, whatever it is, hockey. Ninety nine is the highest rating that you could have.

And in the video game, Aaron Donald is the strongest player. OK. He also happens to be rated.

Yes. Ninety nine. I think this is the seventh consecutive year that he's been rated a ninety nine, which breaks the record of Peyton Manning, who at one point had six consecutive ninety nine ratings. The official quarterback ratings aren't released yet, but it's been reported that Patrick Mahomes will be rated ninety eight. What that one point from ninety nine is that's missing. I have I have no idea.

My apologies. But then you got rookies. They come in and what are you judging them on?

You don't have anything to judge them on. Madden actually adjust the ratings throughout the course of the season, depending on your performance. And so someone like Joe Burrow, it's been reported that he is at a ninety five with the quarterbacks. Justin Jefferson, highest rated wide receiver at ninety nine. Myles Garrett, another end. He comes in at ninety eight, along with Nick Bolsa. Tyree Kill is a ninety eight. Michael Parsons, ninety seven.

And then we got some rookie QBs. To create some hype and and put some content on social media, EA Sports sat down with someone like C.J. Stroud. And they asked C.J. Stroud, hey, what do you think about your rating? And they started off by telling him your arm strength is pretty high.

And they then gave him his rating. Listen to this on Power 89. It's all right. I got more, but it's cool. I know you have more to go. You know who got the highest? You do that a little more?

I know I do. OK, don't get mad at me. Are you ready for your overall rate? Oh, no. Seventy three. Come on, man. Seventy three.

Yes. Seventy three for a quarterback rating for a quarterback who has yet to play in the NFL for some perspective. The unofficial ratings so far. Mahomes, ninety eight. Burrow, ninety five. Lamar Jackson, ninety one. Josh Allen, ninety three.

Justin Herbert, eighty eight. Dak Prescott and Jalen Hurts, eighty seven. Aaron Rodgers, eighty six. Kirk Cousins, eighty four.

Tua, eighty three. Trevor Lawrence, eighty two. Geno Smith, eighty. Jared Goff, seventy nine. Kyler Murray, seventy nine. And those are the top fourteen rated QBs unofficially. And so if you want to talk about Stroud. You may play a game, man.

Just just be happy that you're sitting around at seventy three. It's kind of funny. He's complaining about his video game rating. It was only a few months ago that he pretty much pretty much crapped on his former rating. Like he was sitting down with complex sports. CJ CJ Stroud did. And he told everybody, he's like, listen, I don't I don't I don't even play like I don't play video games.

And so you crap on the game and then you get mad that they they hand out this rating to you like get get your life together. Eight five five two one two four CBS. That's eight five five two one two four CBS. David is calling from Maryland. You're on the JR Sport Brief Show.

Go ahead, David. Hey, man, I appreciate the intro with Let Me Know by Cam'ron. But you like Cam'ron?

Man, that song was fire when it came out. Have you listened to Cam'ron's sports show? I have. Yeah. What do you think about it? I mean, you know, it's for the culture, I guess. Is it?

Yes. How do you feel? I didn't ask you what you think the culture feels about it. How do you feel about it? I'm not going to lie. I kind of need some receipts based on the knowledge and, you know, of what it doesn't sound like you're too much of a fan here. No, I mean, it's entertaining.

Is it? You know, I like to get down and dirty with the numbers and the facts. I can't watch more than two minutes before I go, man, I feel too old listening to Cam'ron talk about sports with Mase. Two fifty year old, two fifty year old guys just making sex jokes. You know, I can't do it.

Right, right. They could talk about hip hop back in the day, but I don't know. To what you said, it's entertaining, but it ain't entertaining to me. What else is on your mind, David? Well, I want to talk about the value or the greatness of Belichick. Now, mind you, Baltimore Ravens fan all day. But, you know, this guy went on record and saying that, man, he loves Ray Lewis.

He loves that read. If you want to talk about a great coach, regardless of Tom Brady, if he was coaching the Ravens during the times that we had that solid defense and subpar quarterback play, I guarantee you will probably have about four rings by now. So that's, you know, you cannot deny and don't get it twisted. It's mainly about the defensive scheme that he delivers. You know, we had some good defenses in Baltimore. You know, Ravens were great defense. We had the players and we had the general on the court on the field was Ray Lewis. Just imagine Ray Lewis and Bill Belichick coordinating that defense. Well, throw Ed Reed in there, too. He has he has waxed poetic about Ed Reed. That's exactly so.

So, you know, don't get it twisted. The offense is one thing, but he's a defensive minded coach. Well, we we saw that from from what he did with the New York Giants in the 80s and when he picked up two Super Bowl championships. And we can look at the record of twenty five and twenty five post Tom Brady. I think one of his greatest achievements, please.

I know it's difficult for people to even want to think about or address. Go back to the Cam Newton COVID year. They were pitiful and pathetic.

They had no reason even scraping up on 500 with anybody else and anybody else's system. The New England Patriots. They'd have been looking like at a one win season. And he was able to squeeze something out of that crap roster. But hey, hey, wait a minute. And now Bill Belichick is garbage.

So hold on, hold on, hold on. What do they have now? What do they do last year? What have they been doing? They've been keeping their head above water the last few years without Tom Brady, even with that diminished roster with nobody.

I mean, that's got to come. You got to give that man credit for at least keeping them above water. Now, as far as the general manager, I you know what? Whatever you do, all I'm worried about is what I see on the field. And for those games that he is, I'm telling you, I mean, sometimes you just don't you put an ordinary coach with this team. They're losing 16 games. Yeah.

No, whatever. This guy will coach his way to get close to 500 as he can. And I'm not going to lie. He needs one or two pieces. And I guarantee you, he won't be dominant, but he's going to be a problem. Yeah. In the playoffs, people look at people have looked and thank you, David, for calling from Maryland.

Appreciate you. People looked at at the ultimate success and he's measured by that now. So it's tough.

Let's be real. He's gone to the playoffs. He's gone to the playoffs twice. Okay.

He's he's been able to to move along. Is the record great? No, it's average 500. Is there a championship? No. Is there a playoff victory? No, definitely is no Super Bowl victory. Is the roster and then some of the draft picks?

No. But he's they've been alive. If they didn't have Belichick there, man, they'd suck. They'd be in a full ass rebuild.

They wouldn't even be where they are right now. Eight five five two one two four CBS. That's eight five five two one two four CBS. I do want to talk more about these ratings.

I want to get to your calls. Speaking of legends, we're going to get into this. There's a basketball legend. He gets respect.

People look at him as one of the greatest players of all time. We got a new basketball documentary that you probably need to check out. I'll tell you who it is. We'll get to your calls and more. It's the JR Sport Brief show on CBS Sports Radio.

You are listening to the JR Sport Brief on CBS Sports Radio. Such a fan of yours, man. Thanks for taking my call. You know, you don't always get the most sane of callers, but you always handle it with such professionalism.

And I really appreciate your content you put out, man. Call in now with eight five five two one two four CBS. It's the JR Sport Brief show here on CBS Sports Radio. Eight five five two one two four CBS. That's eight five five two one two four CBS.

That's eight five five two one two four CBS. I want to get to you about a new documentary dropping from a star player. I do want to spend some more time talking about just just just sports video games. Like, I don't want to sound like the I don't want to say.

Well, I guess I am going to sound like a party pooper for lack of a better term. I guess the games are played out right. Or am I just too old to sit down and play? Used to be fun. Now, I feel like the games have been around for so long, like like how much more can they evolve? I mean, we've gone from 2D and now they're in 3D.

And now the guys, you don't just play basketball in the game, you're buying shoes. I don't care about that. Well, we'll get into that. We got a lot of callers here. Eight five five two one two four CBS.

Let's not waste any time. Let's go to Hamilton, Ontario, and talk to Steve. You're on the JR Sportbrief show. What's up, Steve? Hi, JR. First time caller. Thanks for taking my call. I really enjoy the show.

Thank you. I just want to talk about the New York Yankees. I've been a New York Yankees fan for over 50 years. JR, this group of Yankees has to be the worst in 50, 50 plus years.

Oh, my God. Don Carlos Stanton is hitting like 200. Anthony Rizzo hasn't hit a home run since May 20th. They cannot hit. And it's it's a shame with the tradition of the New York Yankees to watch this team night in and night out. And they can not hit. And nothing is done. I don't understand it, JR. Well, I don't know why.

Why? It's tough to understand. And yeah, the Yankees are currently in action right now against the Angels in Anaheim. I'm watching the game and it's just night after night. They have two hits and they lose to teams that are are not even in the playoff race. And like, well, I just don't understand how how some of those guys aren't benched. Like, how can you win?

There's nobody. Well, well, let me answer you, Steve. I mean, I can I can sit here for two hours and talk about how bad the Yankees have been.

I do it on weekends in New York City on the fan. So, OK, if you want to hear me real about the Yankees, tune in on a Saturday on WFAN. Now, having said that, to give you a short answer, as you just said, the offense sucks. The New York Yankees are not the Bronx bombers right now. They have nothing to do with the murderers row. Aaron Judge went out, is gone with that, that strained or excuse me, the sprain in his foot, which is basically a tear in between his damn toes, and they're below 500 with or without him. They're bad.

OK, Josh Donaldson, he might be out for the season. You are a little Mayhew is below. If you want to blame anybody, Steve, to save us some time here. Look at the guy who constructed the roster.

And that's Brian Cashman. OK, absolutely. One hundred percent. I agree with you 100 percent. And also, having said that, he's on a four year deal that extends another three years.

I think maybe four. So get used to it. Yeah, you're absolutely right.

And he's been a member of the Yankees organization for the past 40 years and he's been the GM for the past 26. So good luck. No, I understand it. And like I just watching them is just unbearable. J.R., it's just unbearable. Really, it is.

Yeah. You don't listen, man. You don't have to. You don't got to convince me. Thirty five million years.

He is also the reality. Let's let's not ignore the fact that the Yankees every year, year after year, they're going to get you approximately 90 wins. A couple of seasons ago, they had more than 100 wins. And yes, this season they might be closer to being a 500 baseball team. Not everybody is going to go on the run that they've gone on, even though they haven't won a World Series since 2009. They've been they've been more competitive. They just haven't gotten over that hump. Both catchers should be in the minors. They're both hitting 200 for years.

They've they've had Goshioka. He shouldn't be on the roster. He shouldn't have been there. They haven't had a decent catcher since Sanchez.

Steve, how good are your knees? Why? So maybe you can go back there and be catcher. I don't want to talk about the two bum catchers on the Yankees.

Nobody cares. No, I get it. I'm just it's just really frustrating. I I as a Yankee fan, it's really frustrating. Well, if you got good knees and or if you can lay down a bunt, maybe you should give Brian Cashman a call.

Well, I'm too old for that, my friend. Well, you might be better than these bums they got out there. They're about to lose another game. Thank you. I know they are. And like I said, they only have.

If they're making their make. Thank you, Steve. Yes, sir. Appreciate you. Thank you. Took us some time to get there. Yeah, man. The Yankees suck.

How many different ways you want me to tell you? Everybody knows they suck. What are we supposed to do? Blame Brian Cashman.

OK. I mean, if you got to look at the Yankees or you're going to look at the Yankees in general terms, look at everything. They've been a successful franchise in twenty seventeen.

They lost. You can blame the Astros if you want to for banging on cans. Somebody will bring up the Yankees using watches. They haven't won a championship since 2009. But come on, is Yankee fans have been spoiled here. If you are older than, I don't know, 20, 25 years old, you're a Yankee fan. You've been spoiled. You've seen some good old days. Good old days don't last forever, man.

You don't. So the Yankees are having a bad year. Whoopty doo. They're still above 500. But it's the Yankees every year. They got to win eight five five two one two four. CBS.

That's eight five five two one two four. CBS. Let's go to South Carolina and talk to Elijah.

You're on CBS Sports Radio. What's up, Elijah? All right. Hey, man. How are you? Oh, good. How about you? I'm amazing. How old are you?

Fourteen. Oh, that's cool, man. What are you doing this summer? You got a job. You're going to camp. What's going on? Oh, right now I'm at the beach. You at the beach?

Are you living the life, Mr. Okay. Summer vacation.

What's on your mind? I was wondering, how do you think the Panthers were there this season when Bryce Young's quarterback and everything's changed up? Oh, man, I don't even I wouldn't even look at wins or losses. The Carolina Panthers, I don't expect them to be relevant in the NFC South. What you want to see from Bryce Young, you just want to see him be a serviceable NFL quarterback who isn't too short to play.

That's it. Yeah, I wouldn't look at wins or losses. I mean, look, if the Carolina Panthers can squeeze out six or seven wins, I would consider that to be a success.

All you want to see is whether or not Bryce Young is going to be your franchise QB into the future. Anything outside of that I find to be irrelevant. Oh, yeah. All right, Elijah, when you go back to school, man. Oh, yes, it's like 18th or something. August. Not too.

Do you like going to school? I mean, it's all right. Yeah, I understand. So what you do on a rusty vacation? Just hanging out at the beach.

Yeah, pretty much. All right, man. Well, you enjoy that.

Get some beach days in for me. OK. All right. I got you. Call me back. Call me back when the season starts. OK, if it's not too late.

All right. Bye bye, Elijah. He's just he's just calling me up.

Ask about the Panthers. Probably better for him not to call me during the school years, probably past his bedtime out in South Carolina. It's almost midnight. Just hanging out at the beach, living a life. Kid don't got no bills. Just just calling me up.

He should pay my bills. Eight five five two one two four CBS. Bubba.

Call it from Alabama. You're on the J.R. sport brief show. Well, you know, we talk about those video games and all that. Would it be cool to have a video game on radio host and see what the ratings would be?

Oh, OK. Yeah. What do you think you would be? I'd be a 68.

I've had you around 85. You know, you got a little too much sarcasm and not enough humor. Oh, well, thank you, Bubba. I appreciate it. But I got you right behind, you know, Amy. Amy. All right.

Well, thank you. Will she be? Will she be a 95? Well, no, she's 86.

She laughs a little bit too much. So you got to get on strike about it. But it'd be interesting to see. I tried to find your ratings, you know, on the media stuff, but a punchy name and I come back to who? Oh, well, damn Bubba. I know.

Would you use the Google? Yeah. Oh, we don't.

Well, we don't. Well, we operate via via syndication. So we count the amount of stations that get this show, which is about 300. Yeah. So you got it.

You got it. You want to ask the shows? Well, well, well, Bubba, I'll let you do the math there. You want me to start counting some of the cities that listen to the show?

No, no. I mean, you know, I'll ask you a question if you have an idea. If you're in the top 101. Well, I told you it comes in via the amount of stations that you get, Bubba.

And I'll tell you, I got a lot of stations, Bubba. I see. OK, well, I'd like to be interesting to see a lot of, you know, I got five minutes to turn them off and do them. And I don't want to stick around a while. Thank you.

Like I say, sometimes you'll get a subject and you'll take way too long. Oh, well, thank you, Bubba. I appreciate it. I ain't knocking, man. I'm just trying to get you some constructive feedback.

Well, that's why. Well, Bubba, I mean, that's why I said I should be rated a 68. I think you're too generous, Bubba.

Bubba, just let me add one quick thing. How many radio shows have you listened to? A lot of radio shows. OK, that's a lot of radio shows. Have you ever heard of a national show that takes as many calls as J.R.?

Uh, mmm. One that guy, the boxing guy, he has a lot of calls. Oh, boxing guy. A boxing guy?

Well, you know him so well. On a national show? What boxing guy has a national show?

Nobody. I might be the boxing guy with a national show. Oh, well, here he comes on. OK. You don't even know who he is, Bubba. That's the point. Well, I was going to say, his name didn't stick.

It's just a gimmick he has. Oh, OK. All right. You know, you calm down.

I know you took a break and you come back and you're a little more gentle now than you were before you took your break. Uh, OK, Bubba. Well, you are, man.

Yeah. OK. What do you do for a living, Bubba? I'm retired. No, OK. What did you do?

Well, what didn't I do? I was a cop, bouncer, boxer. Oh, I could tell you were a boxer. How many fights were you in? I was in 14, all first round knockouts. You beat, what, you were 14 and 0? Fourteen first round knockouts.

I just wish I could have won one. Oh, you got your ass whooped 14 times? Well, yeah. OK. I finally had to give it up on the count of my hands.

Yeah, I think so. I think after you lose 14 times. Well, the referees kept stepping on them.

Yeah, OK. We blame the referees. Well, listen, Bubba, I appreciate your generosity on a scale of 1 to 100. Thank you for rating me in 85.

I would still rate myself a 68, OK? OK. Well, you know, I just thought it'd be nice to see you. I'll listen to some more and see if I can. Well, thank you, Bubba. You can't stick around long. Oh, well, we don't have to crap on other people. Thank you, Bubba. All right. Have a good evening. Cheers.

You too. Shep, that man said he was in 14 boxing matches and he lost all 14 of them? First, it made it sound like he was 14 and 0, the way he described it, right? He said he got knocked out 14 times? I mean, he got knocked out 15 if you count this radio appearance. What did he do? Get, like, nobody says stop after two times?

And by the way, the best part about that is he had to retire because the refs were stepping on his hands too much. Yeah, well, that was his joke. Right, right. Damn.

0 and 14? He sounds like a video game character. Yeah, who loses every single time and doesn't win. He said he was a cop, a bouncer, and a boxer. Yeah, it's like the lion, the witch, and the wardrobe.

That's a hell of a life. We need to give him his own show. Do you think so?

He'd be fascinating, him and Douglas in New Orleans. Oh, my God, no. No, thank you. It's the JR Sportbreeze show here with you on CBS Sports Radio. I'm going to get some more of your calls on the other side of the break.

That nightmare of a show, oh, my God. I'll be back. Don't move.
