It is the JR Sport Brief show here on CBS Sports Radio and it appears that we are minutes away, in NBA time, seconds away from crowning a new champion. And it looks like it's going to be the Denver Nuggets. There's about 14 seconds left on the clock.

Denver leads 94 to 89. This has now devolved or developed into a battle of free throws. Miami, Jimmy Butler had a turnover on their second to last possession. The possession that they last had the ball, Jimmy Butler took a three. Bruce Brown got the rebound, went to the free throw line. And the Denver Nuggets fans are in ball arena, waving their flags.

This will likely, possibly be it. Jokic with 28 points and 16 rebounds on the night. And the Nuggets, and it's over. It's done.

It's finished. The Denver Nuggets are your NBA champions for the year 2022 or 2023 season. And the Nuggets walk away with their first championship.

Miami goes home, they fight. Kevin Love goes over and shares some words with Jokic. Jokic's family and crying in the stands.

Show of sportsmanship. Jokic not celebrating. Jokic showing some love to all of the Heat players and fans, dapping them up, even the bench guys. He's going over and congratulating them. Jamal Murray standing at center court, tears in his eyes. He gets handed his championship hat.

He puts it on. Mike Malone greets Jokic. Jokic not, you know, last break, we heard from Jimmy Butler for whatever reason. NBA TV asked him about his Hall of Fame potential. We know Jokic is now going into the Hall of Fame.

He was. But Jokic gets the award and he will get the award that is going to cement who and what he is. And the reality is he, he's still in the midst of it. I don't want to even say he's just getting started. Two NBA MVPs, an NBA championship. He's seconds and minutes away from officially becoming the NBA Finals MVP. Jokic is the guy with the legacy that people will be discussing. And the Denver Nuggets are your 2023 NBA champions.

And this is their first title in franchise history. The final score one more time. 94 to 89. Nikola Jokic on the night, 28 points, 16 rebounds, four assists. Michael Porter Jr. started off hot. He had 16 points, 13 rebounds. Jamal Murray, 14 points.

Contavious Caldwell-Pope, 11. Bruce Brown with 10 off the bench. Aaron Gordon coming off of his career high, 27. Tonight he only finishes with four but had a big block at the end of the game.

And Jimmy Butler, man, he finished tonight with 21 points. He's walking off of the court, confetti falling all over the place around him. And Jokic is currently being interviewed.

You wouldn't even know that he won. Yeah, Jokic sure knows how to celebrate. It's the JR Sportbreeze Show here with you on CBS Sports Radio.

Thank you to everybody listening in Lockton, all over North America. As Eudonis Haslam also walks off of the court. It'll be the last time that we see Haslam in a NBA uniform or Miami Heat uniform, the only uniform he's ever worn. And in a few minutes, we will hear from Nikola Jokic.

A matter of fact, let's not waste any time. Let's go to the Nuggets radio network and hear the final call where the Nuggets have just won their first NBA championship. Eight seconds left to go.

Casey's across the timeline and he'll dribble it out. The 47-year wait is over. The Denver Nuggets stand on top of the NBA world. They are champions. And Nuggets fans from sea to shining sea can rest or die in peace.

Yeah, all over America, huh? From sea to shining sea. And you gotta give the Denver Nuggets credit. This is a team that played all year long. They played all season long. There was no load management.

There was no, is he going to do this? They're the epitome of a team. So it's no shock and no surprise that they are where they are right now.

Let's think about this. They were first in the Western Conference with 53 victories. They go to the playoffs. They get the Minnesota Timberwolves out of here. They beat the Phoenix Suns, which is basically a two-man team. They go ahead and beat the best team.

Let me not even say that. They beat the Lakers four to nothing. Got them out of here quickly. As Jokic is celebrating with his brothers.

Oh my God. Jokic's brother picked up Jokic. Yeah, his brothers are some big dudes. And so now Jokic takes some time to celebrate with his family. And so yes, they knock off the Los Angeles Lakers and they beat the Miami Heat in five games. As Nikola Jokic is now embraced by his brothers, his family.

Stan Kroenke, the owner. Jokic's brother is also big as hell. And now we finally see Jokic with some emotion and some celebration. That's 8-5-5-2-1-2 for CBS. That's 8-5-5-2-1-2 for CBS.

This was for all intended purposes. This closeout game was a good one as Aaron Gordon stands on the court visibly. Big old tears flowing down his face. This wasn't the best shooting performance by either team. The Miami Heat were 9 of 35 from downtown.

The Nuggets were 5 of 28 from downtown. Miami Heat actually started this game off very aggressive defensively. I would say they got away with quite a few calls.

Even a ridiculous call towards the end of the game where Jimmy Butler was trying to will them back into it for a victory where he got a three point play or three foul shots on a ridiculous shot where they said Aaron Gordon fouled him which was not the case. Miami led by 10 at one point. At halftime Miami led 51-44. But then Denver went on a run. The Miami Heat went on a run to try to get back into it but they could not.

And the Denver Nuggets walk away with their first championship in franchise history. Nikola Jokic, I told you he just spoke to Lisa Salters and then he decided to go celebrate. This is what Nikola Jokic had to say to Lisa Salters after the win. Listen to the conversation on ABC. Nikola, they didn't go away. You had to take it.

What was the difference down the stretch? We knew it. They are a great team. They are a great, great team. A talented team. Amazing team that I respect a lot. It was an amazing effort by the team. It was an ugly game. We couldn't make shots but at the end we figured out how to defend. They scored 80 something or 90 points. That's why we won the game. Coach Malone said that he wasn't sure how the team would handle this situation. You've never been in a final scores out game before. He thought maybe you guys were a little bit tight. Missing free throws, missing some wide open shots. Did you feel that? That's why basketball is a fun sport. That's why it's a live thing. You cannot say this is going to happen.

There are so many factors. I'm just happy that we won the game. Now you are an NBA champion, Nikola. How does that feel? It's good. The job is done. You can go home now. It's good. The job is done.

I can go home. This is the same Nikola Jokic over the weekend he was asked. Hey, if you win the title, what are you going to do? He's like, I'll probably get a horse. He's like, I'll probably get a horse either way.

Win or lose, I'll probably get a horse. Nikola Jokic is a very simple man. In the Denver Nuggets, I told you they were able to turn things around in the second half of this game and keep the Miami Heat at bay. In the third quarter, the Nuggets outscored the Heat 26 to 20. And in the fourth quarter, the Nuggets outscored the Heat 24 to 18. Jimmy Butler really had a bad game, which leads to a lot of the conversation surrounding Hall of Fame or this. Why were we doing that?

Why was that presented to him? Like, win something first. Yeah, sure, he's now going to two NBA Finals and he has pulled out some ridiculous performances in the playoffs throughout his career. But look, we can put Jimmy Butler to the side for right now. And the Miami Heat certainly deserve all the credit in the world for getting here and getting to this point. Because let's all be honest, it was a shock that the Heat got here. We can have a lot of fans pop up and say, oh my God, the Heat discounted and don't count on the Heat and this and that. Credit to the Heat for what they've done.

Okay, this is a squad who had to go into the playing. They got smacked by the Hawks. Not the prime example that I would look at and go, oh man, this is a great NBA team. And then they almost lost to the Bulls. They beat the Bucks. We can look at an injury to Giannis, but still amazing what they were able to do. And in Jimmy Butler's performance there, they beat the Knicks as they should have.

It should have been close. They beat the Celtics. I think because the Celtics just played like a bunch of idiots. And now they go on and they lose to the Denver Nuggets. It's a credit to the Miami Heat that they were able to even get to this point.

And who knows if we see him back? You know, I don't think this roster is going to go out and do anything. Tylee Herro was available to play in tonight's game.

Tylee Herro did not even step out onto the court. Right now, the Larry O'Brien trophy being handed over to the Denver Nuggets. They celebrate. Nikola Jokic seconds away from receiving his MVP award, Finals MVP award. And I think everybody in Denver, they're going to drink well tonight. There's going to be quite a few children that are conceived this evening. And speaking of children, Nikola Jokic holding his baby.

And in a couple of days, they will have a hell of a parade. Nikola Jokic, 28 points, 16 rebounds, 4 assists. The Denver Nuggets win 94 to 89 over the Miami Heat to close this one out in five games. And the Denver Nuggets, they win their first championship in NBA history. And year after year after year, we know winning a title is not easy.

It's not a simple thing to do. But if you take a look at this Nuggets team, I don't think they're going anywhere. It's the JR Sport Brief Show here with you on CBS Sports Radio 855-212-4CBS.

That's 855-212-4CBS. Mike Malone is currently speaking. Nikola Jokic is on his way to formally getting the MVP award. We got so much more to do. We'll hear from the players. We'll hear from the losers. Sorry, unfortunately, to the Heat. And then we're going to hear from more of the winners because the folks in Denver are going to be celebrating for quite some time.

As Nikola Jokic, he has stepped into a completely different category as one of the best NBA players, one of the best NBA bigs that we have ever seen in the league. A ridiculous player. It's the JR Sport Brief Show here on CBS Sports Radio. I'm going to get to your calls on the other side of the break. We'll start to hear from some of the players and coaches as they start to celebrate. It's the JR Sport Brief Show on CBS Sports Radio.

The Denver Nuggets are your 2022-2023 NBA champions. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief on CBS Sports Radio. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief on CBS Sports Radio. This is the first day that I've heard your show. And what a fine, great show. You have a smooth delivery and the way that you handle talk radio.

Call in now at 855-212-4CBS. And tonight is the first night that the Denver Nuggets have ever got their hands or gotten their hands on an NBA championship. The Denver Nuggets beat the Miami Heat in Colorado tonight.

The final score, 94 to 89. And Denver wins this series in five games, 4 to 1. In this closeout game, Nikola Jokic finishes tonight with 28 points, grabs 16 rebounds. Michael Porter Jr. gives you 16 points. Jamal Murray has 14. Aaron Gordon with four. And four of the Denver Nuggets.

Yes, this is not only their first championship. Nikola Jokic continues to just, I almost say set records and abuse the books. But he is the first player in NBA history to lead the playoffs in total points, total rebounds, and total assists. And Nikola Jokic walks away tonight with the NBA Finals MVP in addition to an NBA championship. And for all of the ridiculous conversations about him stat-patting. Well, he stat-patted his way straight to a championship, I guess. And yeah, he didn't win the NBA's regular season MVP award. We know that went to Joel Embiid. But let's be real.

Who's the last dude standing here? I think if Nikola Jokic had a chance every year whether or not he was going to win the MVP award, whether or not he's going to walk away with the title, I would think he'd choose a title. And now he's a champion. And Nikola Jokic, he could quit tomorrow. He'd be going right into the Basketball Hall of Fame given his accomplishments, given his contributions to the game, given how he's abused the competition here over the past three seasons.

And dammit, let's also be honest. I don't see him quitting tomorrow. And he is only 28 years old. He is likely entering into his prime. And we have heard from his opponents when Del Carter Jr. was here with us about a week ago, two weeks ago. He said he believes Nikola Jokic can get better. Jamal Murray over the weekend, speaking about his own teammates, said, I believe Nikola Jokic can be better. And when you go ahead and look at these numbers of what Jokic is doing right now, tonight in a closeout game, 12 of 16 from the field. How how is life this easy? How is this man this efficient?

It's ridiculous. And it's not like he's parked in the paint. It's not like he's Shaq overpowering everybody. He's stronger than most of the dudes out there. But it's the skill that surrounds it from every corner and every point on the court. Jokic is special, folks.

And now he's an NBA champion. 8 5 5 2 1 2 4 CBS. Adam is calling from Toronto. You're on CBS Sports Radio.

Hey, I really appreciate you taking my call, man. You know, everybody's going to talk about Jokic and he definitely deserves his flowers, man. But I want to talk about Jamal Murray. It's funny because I'm actually in Kitchener right now where Jamal Murray is from.

I'm working away. But man, this this kid, he tore his ACL last year and he came back and he's he's played. He's played unbelievable, man. And he's I just want to say he's made this this city, this province and this whole country proud, man. And that's the city of Denver, man.

I mean, I know other than the Broncos, they've had some really, really tough years with the Rockies and then the Nuggets. And just going back to 2019 when the Raptors won it all, man, I'm thrilled for that city. And just just it's just amazing what Jamal Murray's been able to do and come back. And he's an NBA champion, man.

And Jokic is going to go down as one of the best big men of all time. So love your show, JR. Thank you again for taking my call. No doubt about it.

Thank you, Adam, for calling from Toronto. And you talk about Jamal Murray. We know he had to miss an entire season.

This is first one back since going out there and tearing his ACL. And he had tears in his eyes when he spoke after the game. And we'll hear from Jamal Murray shortly. Someone who did speak is the Denver Nuggets head coach Mike Malone. And Mike Malone, just even even to himself here, he's been coaching the Denver Nuggets since 2015. They have not given him the boot.

He didn't get fired, obviously. And when you think about how quick NBA coaches just get the plug pulled on them. And despite any type of success, Mike Malone has he's still here. And it's taken the Nuggets quite some time to get here through through injury and drafting and developing Jokic. And Mike Malone pretty much said, hey, listen, we ain't done yet with the winning.

This what he had to say on ABC. All the hard work, all the sacrifice, all the dedication, all culminated with us winning a championship. But I got news for everybody out there. We're not satisfied with one. We want more.

And they realistically might have more. Well, you have Nikolay Jokic at twenty eight years old, eight five five two one two four CBS. That's eight five five two one two four CBS. Brandon, he's calling from Washington, D.C. On the J.R. sport ratio. What's up, Brandon? Hey, what's going on, J.R.? How you doing, my man? I'm good.

Go ahead. Well, first off, I want to say congratulations to Denver. I mean, I'm a fan. It hurts. But I mean, I know the feeling of winning, you know, the championship. So congratulations to you all. I want to talk about heat culture.

You know, they are exposing he lost three finals in a row. I mean, you know, how do you define heat culture? OK, well, Brandon, I'll put it to you this way. It's it's it's been a nice it's been a nice phrase. I would say buzzword, but it's it's two words. It's been a nice buzzword. It's been a nice phrase that we've had to listen to for the past two months.

How about this? It's just a winning it's a winning organization. It's not haphazard. It's not a joke. This is a team led by Pat Riley, who's one of the most winningest individuals that the NBA has seen.

And it's what now? Seventy seven years of history and NBA champion as a player. We know he walked walked away with five rings as a coach with the Lakers and also the Heat.

And then he picked up another two with the big three coming over approximately 10 years ago, which is even wild to think about. It's just winners, man. We know that in professional sports and it's not just basketball. There are teams that that win. So whether it's heat culture or Yankee culture or we want to or Spurs, even the San Antonio Spurs for a team that has ain't been all that good for the past few years in a building back up. I think I think we'd be all stupid to think that, oh, my God, now this now the Spurs are not good as an organization. We can look at the Patriots. You know, anyone who wants to run around and say, oh, my God, they only won because of Tom Brady. It's it's it's a misnomer.

Yes. Tom Brady was the player who helped take them there. You need players. It doesn't matter who the coach is, but you have to have a positive environment. It's like anyplace else. You can get a job at a you can be in a great individual talent working at a company. But if the company is garbage surrounding you and nobody goes anywhere, you might get a paycheck. But the company as a whole doesn't succeed. And so what do I think about heat culture? I'm glad that we can maybe stop hearing about it. But the fact is simply they're well run organization that has standards.

And it's a cool thing. We have a lot of teams that could certainly learn from it, man. So if you're trying to look at Spolstra and go three strikes, three straight finals losses, what do you what do you want him to do?

He can't go out there and play. Look at who he know. Yeah, I'm sorry.

No, no, no, no. I'm not, you know, looking at him in a bad light anyway. But, you know, just is this kind of, you know, frustrating, you know, even though you can't you can't win them all. You know, I'm just a little frustrated right now.

But, you know, I agree with everything you did say, you know, so I mean, we'll see. We all know it's hard to get back next year. So, you know, you the Celtics, they're going to be there to mix and they're going to get better. This is the this is the cool thing about the NBA offseason.

Thank you so much, Brandon, for calling from Washington. We're entering into free agency. We have no idea what any team is going to look like next year.

Whether it's the draft. I mean, we I've seen rumors and articles and reports about the Pelicans now trying to move further up into the draft to get Scoot Henderson. We have no idea what will take place with Kyrie. It seems like every week there's a new story surrounding Damian Lillard and and where he wants to go and end up or not end up in some of those conversations have been surrounding the Miami Heat. And so, yeah, we know every year is a little bit different. I know these Denver Nuggets are going to be here. But even in that regard, injuries play a massive and huge part in how things develop as well.

So one step at a time. No, it's not easy to repeat or even get back. We saw the Miami Heat be a shot away from the NBA Finals last year. We saw them get to the NBA Finals this year. What are the chances that they they turn things around and go back next year? Not high.

But that's why we got roster construction. Let's see what happens over the next couple of months. Eight five five two one two four CBS. Let's go to Toronto and talk to Daniel.

You're on the JR Sport Brief show. How you doing today? Very well.

What's up? Well, first of all, I found it interesting how you talked about Michael Malone, because I think that their culture, not to use the term lightly because it's used so much talking about the heat, but their culture in Denver was also shown with what they did with Michael Porter Jr.. I mean, you know, they drafted him, they believed in him and they kept them throughout this this term with their coach. And, you know, when there were multiple trades happening, they got they brought in Aaron Gordon. They got rid of a bunch of players that bought in KCP, but they always believed in him. And the other thing I told your producer was, you know, like your last caller, who was talking about the heat and the frustration with the heat and when Eric's both. It's not about that.

If you're you know, I'm 48 years old. I've been playing basketball my whole life and watching Nikolai Okoch is a pure pleasure because he's so unique in this year's story. In this in the age of this NBA, there is no other player like him.

And not only that, you know, like it's watching him is it's such a pleasure that when you see the defense that's thrown at him, it must be frustrating for the other teams. You know, every time they throw a double team at him, he's able to find players that are cutting to the hoop. Every time you leave them open, he can hit the three. He can bring the ball up the floor. He can find cutters going back door in his zone. He has there's so many his basketball IQ is so high and for a player his size that gives him the ability to do all of those different things. It's like something that we've never seen before.

It's a pleasure to watch. You know, the fact that there are all these conversations around the MVP and about people not watching him because he's in Denver. Listen, if you're a basketball fan and you're not watching him, then that's your problem. Yeah. Well, thank you, Daniel, for calling from Toronto or or you're not staying up late to watch.

I think that's reasonable for some folks, but I don't think we have to worry about that. I think the Denver Nuggets are going to get a lot of attention next year. I think we can expect to see the Denver Nuggets playing on Christmas. I think we can expect them to.

We can see him on a Saturday night on ABC. I think we can expect to see them more on ESPN because they're the champs. So let's go ahead and set the matchups right now.

What is what is our Christmas Day game? Is it going to be the Lakers and the Nuggets? Probably. Will it be the Nuggets and the Warriors?

Maybe. So, yeah, people haven't necessarily seen Jokic over the past few seasons. The world learned more about him by watching him here in this playoffs as he just annihilated the competition for the first time in NBA history. One player leading the league in both points, rebounds and total assists here in one postseason.

It is your NBA Finals MVP in Nikola Jokic. It's the J.R. Sportbrief show here with you on CBS Sports Radio. Phone lines still open eight five five two one two four CBS.

That's eight five five two one two four CBS. You know, one of our callers mentioned Jamal Murray. We're going to hear from Jamal Murray on the other side of the break.

I'll get to you on the lines. You're listening to the J.R. Sportbrief on CBS Sports Radio. You're listening to the J.R. Sportbrief on CBS Sports Radio. They appreciate your show and the way you are.

And there's a reason you are where you are. Thank you. But call in now at eight five five two one two four CBS. It's the J.R. Sportbrief show here on CBS Sports Radio. Denver Nuggets NBA champions for the twenty twenty two twenty twenty three season. Champagne is now flowing in the Nuggets locker room. We see the goggles we see the NBA championship shirts and we see the bubbly is flying all over the place.

And in a few days I don't think we'll see this. You know the same same parades that we typically do. I mean if you've been watching the Golden State Warriors and Klay Thompson if you remember a few years ago. Well I mean we saw Tom Brady almost lose the Vince Lombardi trophy. It's like every year we see a drunk. Somebody out there maybe had a little too much to drink.

I'd be a little surprised if somebody on the Denver Nuggets kind of just went a little overboard. I can't see Nikola Jokic being the drunk at the parade. I don't think Jamal Murray will be the drunk.

I think we're going to have a normal parade with no shenanigans. But it's still early. Maybe DeAndre Jordan will be that guy. I don't even think that'll be the case. But Jamal Murray we just spoke about him before the break.

This is a dude. Tore his ACL. Missed the entire 2021-2022 season.

Returned this year. Dropped 20 a game. 6 assists.

4 rebounds. Is only 26 years old. And I don't think. This is not a stretch.

This is not a profound statement. We've seen it over the past few seasons. Like they don't get to this spot if Jamal Murray is not available. Michael Porter Jr. as young as he is.

I don't think they get to this spot if he doesn't develop and he's only 24 years old. So this Nuggets team still has room to grow. And Jamal Murray very emotional after the game. Tonight 14 points. 8 rebounds.

8 assists. And he spoke to Lisa Salters on ABC after the victory. And this is that conversation. Comeback even better than you were before. Can you describe to me what this championship journey has been like? Just amazing feeling.

You know, I love sweat and tears to get back to this point. Everybody on my team in here. Everybody on the floor believing me.

Believing to get back to myself. And we proved a lot of doubters wrong. I mean look at this. We proved a lot of doubters wrong. OK. I think by the time we got rolling here in the postseason I think there were more doubters surrounding the Heat.

I think that's a little bit more legitimate. But congratulations to these Nuggets man. 8 5 5 2 1 2 4 CBS. Brian is calling from Virginia.

Go ahead, Brian. Well, man, I just love hearing that voice from Jamal Murray. I love the romanticism of the NBA, man. I love the way your kicks and the team pulled this out. I just as a basketball fan, man, you just you just this is just good stuff. And I've been a Spurs fan my whole life. Shout out to my Spurs family. I remember watching the ninety nine Spurs championship in New York City with my dad as a kid. And man, it's just fun being a basketball fan and I'm sitting in a parking lot in Richmond, Virginia, just soaking it all in. And I really I'm just loving it right now. I just congrats to Denver. Jimmy Butler is one of the greatest of all time and deserves all the respect for this performance in this playoff. Incredible.

So much love from Virginia. Hope you're doing well, brother. All right. Thank you so much, Brian.

All the best. Yeah, I don't know about Jimmy Butler being the greatest of all. He's a great competitor. There's been plenty of times he's elevated his game. We've seen that.

But one of the greatest of all time. I don't know about that, man. Eight, five, five, two, one, two, four. CBS. Let's go to D.C. and talk to Flute. You're on the J.R. sport brief show.

I'm at J.R. with my brother, Mr. Cool. And, you know, for now, they took a close observation of this series because, you know, it's not just a plan on the court. I also look at the coaching and that guy Malone, he really takes like a mental approach to coaching, like kind of like the Phil Jackson approach to coaching. And, you know, that's why his team sees always stay in rhythm. They don't go out of character, you know, and the competitiveness that they maintain, you know, either really up 10 or down 10. And the thing that I'm really hoping, though, is that the media doesn't try to carve this team up and make the Joker into the Superman and Murray into the Batman. This is a team right here, man. And then they're young and you can see in each one of their games, they have a lot of growth, you know, room for growth in their team.

And the kid, Pope, came off and really excelled today. And I hope that it doesn't come down to like, you know, everything is Zion, Job down in Memphis and the kid in Atlanta. You know, it seems like they're trying to bring a new wave in, individuals, individuals, individuals. And I think this is going to shake things up with this situation going on here and then, but they're just showing team ball. And what do you think about that, J.I.?

Well, I think, well, thank you, Flute, for calling for DC. I look at this as the NBA has done an excellent job in marketing stars. We've had plenty of players come down to the pipeline over years and just kind of exceed that into just being selfish.

But I don't think there's anything with marketing the stars. You want to look at the Golden State Warriors and tell me that Steph Curry isn't a great individual talent who's highlighted. Obviously he is. But the Warriors, look at how they play, just moving the ball all over the place.

And so I think it's based on personality. Steph Curry is one of the greatest individual talents that basketball has ever seen. But I don't think to a certain degree that people go ahead and look at him and go, oh, my God, he's not a team play.

He's not this. Yeah, he'll take some some shots, but he's about the only guy who can go out there and make them. Now, having said that, if you look at the personalities on the Denver Nuggets, ain't nobody on the Nuggets out here who's just gonna, gonna jump in front of folks.

I mean, for the most part, everybody is getting paid. Jokic is not going anywhere unless he decides to up and quit, which would not surprise me. But he got 61 million dollars coming his way if he should choose in the year 2027 to 2028. Jamal Murray, two more years left on his contract after this. Michael Porter Jr. And we know back injuries and surgeries. You've got to be very wary about that. He's on a long term deal.

Aaron Gordon has two more years left on his contract. So unless somebody wakes up and decides to be a complete jerk. I don't think it's going to fly. And the beautiful thing about the Denver Nuggets, the beautiful thing I'd say about sports and teams and the NBA, especially with their smaller rosters in comparison to the NFL and MLB, the teams typically take on the attitude and the behavior of its best player. And when you look at Jokic, it's going to be very difficult for somebody to just pitch a fit because you're going to look like a complete idiot. You're going to look like the kid screaming in the middle of the grocery store and everybody just looking at you like, what's the problem? We don't we don't do that here.

Like everything is fine. What are you complaining about? 855-212-4CBS. Ashano calling from Charlotte. You're on the JR Sport Brief Show. Hey, JR, what's going on? I appreciate you and Shep, man. You have a great show. I listen often.

Don't get a chance to call this month because I'm out getting my grind on. Do you want to ride here for Lyft? But anyway, I just want to give props to the Nuggets for a job well done. I lived in Denver.

I'm a native New Yorker, but I lived in Denver throughout John Elway's entire career. Had some great basketball moments out there. Becoming a high school basketball official, going to Nuggets games at Old McNichols Arena and seeing them surrender 140 and only could score 30 in a lot of games. You know, but it was some entertaining basketball. This is an interview with Alice English recently, man.

Great interview. But again, I got to give a lot of props to the Nuggets. Had some great basketball moments out there. I tend to play pick up ball with Chauncey Bellows back in the days. Met him a long time ago. Play pick up ball at Utah Park with Mark Mood. When he got kind of ousted by the NBA in like 97.

So had some great times in the late 90s and kind of like early 2000s. But anyway, great job, Nuggets. Well deserved.

I'll take it off the air. Thank you. Thank you for calling from Charlotte and Chauncey Billups, a Denver native. And also, we can put Nikola Jokic in this category. Multiple MVPs in an NBA title. Some of the names that Nikola Jokic has joined the company of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Larry Bird. Wilt Chamberlain. Tim Duncan. Steph Curry.

Giannis. Magic Johnson. Michael Jordan. Moses Malone.

Bob Pettit. Bill Russell. LeBron James. Nikola. Jokic.

Simple as that. And he has put himself in a totally different category. And for a guy who just won two MVPs and how the hell is Jokic going to win an MVP? How the hell did Jokic win two MVPs?

Well, now he got an NBA title. And I'll reread that list of names again because he's in there with them. It's the JR Sport Reshow here on CBS Sports Radio, 855-212-4CBS. We'll get to more of your calls on the other side. We'll also hear from Eric Spolstra.
