It is the JR Sport Brief Show on CBS Sports Radio. I'm coming to you live from the NFL Draft Experience in Kansas City. I was live here on CBS Sports Radio with Zach Galb, Andrew Perloff, as we went through the entire first round of the draft. Some surprises, some things you would expect, like Bryce Young going number one overall to the Carolina Panthers.

No big shock, no big surprise there. But then you did have some surprises, like the Texans. Okay, they took C.J. Stroud at number two overall, but then they traded up to get Will Anderson at number three overall. Anthony Richardson going number four, the former Gator, he's now an Indianapolis cult.

I got a lot of people, all my friends in Atlanta, hitting me up, Bijan Robinson. Yep, the Falcons took a running back at number eight. Cordarrelle Patterson doesn't get the love and attention that he deserves, and Algier is still there as well. Falcons are going to be running the football down everybody's throat.

It's just a matter of whether or not Ritter can throw the ball as a compliment. Jameer Gibbs, he was shocked as hell, another running back. He was shocked that the Detroit Lions took him at 12.

And then the Eagles, I guess they just trying to go right back to the Super Bowl with no problem. Speaking of Atlanta, more specifically speaking of Georgia, the Eagles, they wasted no time in saying, you know what, we'll take Nolan Smith. They drafted him at number 30, and they also had no issue with grabbing Jalen Carter at number nine. Will Levis, not drafted tonight. He has to wait until tomorrow where I believe he will be drafted. We found out that one of the reasons is potentially a toe injury. Hendon Hooker not drafted as well, the quarterback out of Tennessee.

And then this name might be familiar basically because of his daddy, but Joey Porter Jr. Cornerback, not laying the wood down like his dad. He was not selected here in the first round either. And so things were pretty swift tonight. There's some fans that are happy, some that are not. I'm still kind of scratching my head just a little bit on the Texans. They originally were selecting at number 12. They swapped picks, the number third overall here with the Arizona Cardinals to select Will Anderson.

And so the Texans, they went offense, they went defense, and the Panthers, they went somewhere that we all knew that they would go. That was Bryce Young number one overall. This is what Bryce Young had to say following his selection at number one with the NFL Network. Take a listen.

It's still crazy. It's a blessing. I'm super grateful to be here. I'm super grateful for the blessings from God for allowing me to be here. I'm grateful for all the people that allow me to do it. As amazing as this moment is, I'm going to try to live in the moment. I can't wait to get to work tomorrow and start building off of that. Everything I have, you know, I'm going to give everything to the franchise, to the organization, to the coaches, you know, that believed in me and drafted me. And, you know, I'm forever indebted for that.

So everything I have, preparation, not just on Sundays, but throughout the entire week, I'm going to give it my all. What about the man that's writing his checks? What about David Tepper? Yeah, the owner spoke about this selection. The owner is very, very confident in Bryce Young. He says, I'm not expecting 10 victories a season. I'm not expecting competing for a Super Bowl. He says, we got a guy that can help us win multiples.

Listen to this. We thought this guy had the highest probability of winning Super Bowls. And I think for myself and I don't want to speak for Frank and I think he fills the slot. Listen, you want to win Super Bowls.

And, you know, there's no sure thing here, but it's a probability sort of. We thought this guy has the best probability of winning a Super Bowls. You know, the way he throws the ball, the way he's a point guard, how you can use the different players in the field, how you might not have to have as many elite receivers because he's a point guard, right? So he distributes the ball to people with routes so you can save some money there. You know, we believe we can save money. Other places we cost him and put that money into the defensive side of the ball.

OK. There's some some strong words there from the owner. It's kind of crazy because Bryce Young, he didn't just talk to the NFL network. He spoke to Westwood One and he basically said, yeah, I didn't even know if I was going number one. I wasn't confident in anything because I didn't really put a lot of stock in and what was going to happen. You know, I felt like, you know, where I got drafted is something I can't control.

You know, I try to do my best to, you know, to present myself in the best light and try to be transparent and open and talk with all the teams that, you know, that took time and, you know, were able to give me the time to, you know, to express that. And I didn't know what was going to happen. But I had, you know, I had peace and, you know, whatever did happen. I knew it was where I was supposed to be. I knew God was going to handle that stuff. So, you know, I didn't know anything. And for me, I was I was good with that. There's a lot of peace for me in that. So I'm super excited. OK. Good luck to him.

They don't got too much help on that squad. Are you just going to throw the ball at the feeling all the time? Good luck. Eight five five two one two four CBS. That's eight five five two one two four CBS. Much love to everybody locked in on the free Odyssey app.

Your local affiliate Sirius XM Channel 158 and everybody tuned in on a smart speaker. We got a lot to do this hour before I roll out. I've been sitting here all night.

Typically, you get four hours. I mean, I've been here. I don't even know. Let's see. How long I've been here?

At least six hours, because I mean, the amount of prep you put in, having to get there and test and do all those things, you know. Oh, no, I didn't. I just showed up. I don't know what you're talking about. Fair enough. Now, I know just I would guess you don't want any caller bringing up what they had for dinner in the last few hours.

That's not going to do you any favors. I'm not I'm not hungry because I ate before I got here, man. Gotcha. Gotcha.

I'm good. I don't know. All I do is smell food. Somebody's cooking.

I don't know. Maybe I'm smelling the remnants of food. It smells good, though.

I ain't eating it anyway. Bryce Young goes number one. C.J. Stroud, the man that everybody is worried can't throw outside of the pocket.

He went number two. C.J. Stroud going to the Texans. The Texans, new head coach, new enthusiasm with D'Amico Ryans leading the way.

I don't know how enthusiastic people are about their general manager, Casario still being there as well. But C.J. Stroud, he told everybody what he's bringing to the Texans. I bring me. I bring a man of God. I bring a leader. I bring somebody who's going to go to work every day and work their tail off.

Somebody who comes from a winning tradition, somebody who wants to win. And that's all I care about, man. So I'm going to be the best teammate, the best leader, the best quarterback I can be. When I ask somebody what they're bringing and they say the first thing is I'm bringing me, I ain't all that excited about what you're doing. You come to my what you're bringing for Thanksgiving. I'm bringing me to stay your ass at home. Tell us something else that you actually do. I bring me.

No, that sucks. We don't want you. Are you going to throw outside the pocket? You're going to throw touchdowns? What else you bringing? I bring me. I don't want that.

It's terrible. Anyway, good luck with the Texans. I think this move was made just to excite the fan base. I go down to Houston quite a bit. Man, the fans down there tell me, man, we're not going to this game. I'm not going out to NRG to watch this.

Why am I wasting my time? I could sit and watch this at home. Good luck to the Texans. And then they got Will Anderson. They traded for him or traded up to get him. These are why these teams are selecting high. I hope all these dudes work out.

We certainly know there are no guarantees. Speaking of Houston, Cody is here from Houston, Texas. Cody, you're on CBS Sports Radio, the JR Sport Bree show. What's up? JR, what's up, my friend?

How are you? Speaking of barbecue, it's obvious that a taxi is far more superior than Kansas City. We'll get into that because I heard you a little bit hungry there.

No, I said I'm not hungry. You could say whatever you want, but go ahead. Yeah, you know, I think we gave up a lot, you know, trying to get Will Anderson there. But, you know, shout out Daniel Jeremiah, who's a genius. And we predicted this in his latest mock draft ahead of time. I don't think anyone else had had even fathom of us doing this. But think of the smart move at two going quarterback first with the thought that at three, it was known that Arizona was going to move out, whether Tennessee was going to move in there, whether it was the Colts to move up for a quarterback. So go ahead, take your quarterback that you wanted, too.

That way you don't have to worry about, you know, anyone else coming up at three and taking it. Yeah, no, there was obviously a strong conviction there in getting Stroud. If they were going to be consent to go defense first and settle on a QB, my thought process was, and this could still ring true, there are no guarantees here.

Well, let me be clear. The Texans are still going to stink this year. There's a good possibility that they're still going to have a high draft pick by the time we roll into the 2024 draft in Detroit, Michigan. And so it wasn't necessary for them to get a quarterback this year. They either A, love C.J. Stroud or B, they want to put butts in the seats. Oh, for sure. I think them coming up for some without quarterback would have been an absolute nightmare.

And whether they had the, you know, will let us Intel that you're alluding to with the toe remains to be seen. But let's just think about this again with bringing in that San Francisco offense. We're going to be running the ball. So you don't got to have flashy guy at quarterback. You got to have a guy who can make the throws be on time. Be that traditional quarterback, you know, whether it remains to be seen, he can throw outside of the pocket. We'll find out.

You mentioned it. Pierce is going to get tons of work. I hope that they don't run that young man into the ground. But when you start off here with a young QB, that's that's likely what the case is going to be. He's going to get a heavy, heavy workload. That's that's what happens when you have a young running back. That's why taking a guide 8 or 12 with your against it.

I think it is tough. You run these guys into the ground, you get three, four years out of them, and then bring the next guy in. That's by the 8 or 12. Yeah. By the time and thank you, Cody, for calling from Houston by the time that the Texans are good.

He probably won't have too much tread on the tires. Sorry. 8 5 5 2 1 2 4 CBS. Kevin is calling from Louisville.

CBS Sports Radio. What's up, Kevin? How are you doing, my friend? I'm amazing.

How are you? You are a KC, right? Yes. Yes, I am. The best thing that happened tonight was Lamar, my boy, getting paid, man.

Lamar Jackson out of Louisville. Yes. Yes. Yes. I'm so glad, Lamar. And you know what?

He's going to show somebody something. I guarantee you that. But anyway. So. Yes.

Help us out. You still there, Kevin? Yes, I am. I was having a moment. I'm sorry. It happens. Shep, he's having a moment.

Help him out. I was having a moment, man. Give me a break. Kevin, we get it. You're ecstatic because you have your guy from Louisville who was 32nd overall pick, who no one saw having this kind of money, now signed the richest contract in NFL history.

Congratulations. What is my boys going to do in San Francisco? The 49ers?

Yes. You should be more worried about the San Francisco 49ers and their current quarterback position. I mean, I wouldn't give a damn what they do the rest of this draft, man. Is Purdy going to show up later this year and be healthy? Or are you going to have to look at Sam Donald throwing the ball? God knows.

Nobody wants to see that besides his parents. No. Hell to the F, no. Well, be careful now. I know. Okay, good. JR?

Yes? They were talking about a minute. Lamar coming in. I'm just ecstatic. Lamar got his contract. That's what I'm saying. But I don't know what we need to do to win the Super Bowl against them damn Eagles.

Oh, my God. Them Eagles and them Kansas City Chiefs. Them Chiefs. Yeah, worry about the AFC first. I mean, I wouldn't necessarily hit the fast-forward button to the Super Bowl. One step at a time.

Hey, Kevin, I appreciate you, man. Do you have a prediction? Of what?

Joe Burrow's going to be higher paid than Lamar. Oh, yeah. Yeah, that's what happens. I mean, it took a week. And thank you, Kevin.

It was a pleasure talking to you most times. Last week, Jalen Hurts ends up with $51 million. Aaron Rodgers, all things considered, I know the New York Jets are realigning his contract, converting money into bonuses to create cap space, et cetera. He's at 50. So if I'm not a mathematician here, but if I'm going 50 and in 51 and then today, Lamar Jackson got 52, you think Joe Burrow sitting around at home telling his agent, yeah, yeah, I'll settle for 49. No, he's not doing that. He's going to 53. If you want to think about what might actually happen here, think about Justin Herbert.

Like, what type of deal is he getting? Okay, he's broken every single rookie passer record. I've been around for five years. I own every rookie record for the first five years of QB.

But what does that really matter? That these quarterbacks are throwing a football around more than ever. Herbert, he hasn't had no real playoff success. He doesn't have an MVP. He didn't go to the Super Bowl like Joe Burrow. And so I don't know where Herbert will fit in, but based on his potential, I assume Justin Herbert will also get a deal in that 50 range, give or take.

Maybe he gets his deal and maybe Joe Burrow says I'll wait to see what he gets paid. 855-212-4CBS, Steve is calling from Maine. You're on the JR Sport Reshow. Go ahead, Steve. Hey, JR. How are you doing?

It's good to talk to you. Likewise. I'm just thinking about Will Leviss' situation. I'm a Kentucky alum, but that doesn't really matter.

It doesn't. But, you know, I think that Charlotte could pull a Washington Redskins redo. Uh-oh.

Schuler and Farrant? No, when they drafted RG3, they also drafted Kirk Cousins, I think, in a later round. And RG3 ended up getting injured and Cousins took over the job. And I think that could happen with Bryce Young.

I mean, I think he's a great talent, don't get me wrong. Wait, wait, wait. You think the Carolina Panthers will also add Will Leviss somewhere down the line?

I think they'd be smart to, as an insurance policy against... That's why you bring in a veteran quarterback. Let me ask you this. And if you don't want to answer, feel free. Don't. It ain't none of my business. Are you married? Twice divorced. Okay.

Well, you might already know the answer to this. Would both of your wives be willing to be, you know, your wife? Would they be co-wives, like two wives at one time? Would they sign up for that? No.

No, I'm not from Utah, so... Oh, well, much love to everybody listening out in Utah and a lot of other places in the world. But I think you understand my point. When you hear David Tepper talk about how Bryce Young is the guy, he don't want Will Leviss kind of lurking in the background. It don't matter where they draft him. They have Andy Dalton as the veteran backup.

That's it. They don't need to rock the boat. You don't need these two dudes standing in the quarterback room, staring across from each other, Will Leviss plotting to take his job and Bryce Young sweating. You want Bryce Young to be comfortable. And sure, yes, it's the NFL.

Everything is always about competition and the next man up and the backup quarterback wants to start, unless he knows he sucks and he's just happy to collect the check. But that's just a totally bad idea. I don't see Carolina doubling up. If anything, you want to get Bryce Young help.

You want to get him protection. Well, I'm just saying I wouldn't be surprised to see it. And owners talk about it both sides of their mouths all the time. Not not not in this regard.

I'd be shocked if they went ahead and got him as well. Thank you so much, Steve, for calling up for me. Look, I know there's a lot of places, a lot of cultures. You bring two people in and you say, I got both of them. Sometimes it's not worth the headache.

Not at all. It's the JR Sport Reshow here with you on CBS Sports Radio 8 5 5 2 1 2 4 CBS. Speaking of a headache, Jim Irsay, he finally hopes that he does not have a headache with the quarterback that he selected with Anthony Richardson.

I'm going to take your calls. We're going to hear from Anthony Richardson after he spoke from his selection earlier this evening. And then I heard there was a basketball game tonight.

Somebody else got eliminated. My my friends down in Atlanta, the Hawks are done. It's the JR Sport Reshow here with you on CBS Sports Radio coming to you live from the NFL Draft experience in Kansas City.

Don't move. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief on CBS Sports Radio. I certainly appreciate your show. I really think you do the best job on the radio talk shows. First of all, I want to say, man, I enjoy your show because it's a different voice and I've contemplated calling before. Call in now at 8 5 5 2 1 2 4 CBS.

That's right. It's the JR Sport Reshow on CBS Sports Radio coming to you live from Kansas City at the NFL Draft experience. Where the smell of barbecue is permeating throughout the air. Anyway, I'm going to continue to permeate here throughout your airwaves. 8 5 5 2 1 2 4 CBS.

That's 8 5 5 2 1 2 4 CBS. You can find me online, of course, at JR Sport Brief. I want to run you through some of the big things, big names, big decisions that have taken place here in the first round.

The draft. I'm going to get to your calls, get your understanding of what took place. Are you happy? Are you sad? Are you upset with your team?

And then I'll mention to you on the way out the door about these Atlanta Hawks. And by the way, yes, Will Leviss was not drafted. Joey Porter Jr. was not drafted.

They're just going to have to wait maybe another 24 hours, someone who did get drafted. I was a little surprised by this just a little bit. That's Anthony Richardson going number four overall. We know he is an athletic freak. It seems like he's faster than everybody. He's bigger than everybody. He's stronger than everybody. He's he's doing backflips into the end zone.

He's just he's a freak and he's going to have time to develop. And he spoke right after he was drafted. And this is what he had to say about his selection. I knew it was going to be emotional for me because I always into this. But when I got the call, it just hit me like really hit me deep that I finally made it to this level. And I just got to keep working and do best. I'm going to be a dynamic player for the franchise. I'm going to work hard. I'm going to be a leader.

But it's time to make my own legacy now. No more Karen Jackson. It's Anthony Richardson now.

Okay. He sounds very, very, very comfortable there. Gardner Minshew likely going to be the starter, but they're going to get a heavy dose of Anthony Richardson, especially for a team in the Colts who are likely really going to want to run that ball between Anthony Richardson and Jonathan Taylor. If you continue on looking through the first round of the draft, the Raiders at seven got Tyree Wilson from Texas Tech, probably the best edge rusher in this draft.

The Raiders did not touch a quarterback. There's a lot of back and forth about Bijan Robinson going number eight to the Falcons. It's like, do you want to draft the running back that high? Jameer Gibbs, he went high at number 12 to the Detroit Lions coming out of Alabama. That's another running back. Jameer Gibbs said, I didn't expect them to take me at number 12. The Tennessee Titans at 11. They did not go QB. They went to Northwestern.

Much love to everybody in Illinois. Peter Skoronski, so Ryan Tannehill. Get used to another year of him unless they end up with Will Leviss in the second round. And Derrick Henry, it looks like he will be a Tennessee Titan once again. Jalen Carter goes number nine to the Philadelphia Eagles who are stacking up on Georgia players.

The Green Bay Packers at 13. Lucas Van Ness, we know the Packers are totally rebuilding. They have enough young wide receivers, I gather, so they get a rusher. Pittsburgh Steelers go Broderick Jones from Georgia, offensive tackle. Christian Gonzalez, the New England Patriots actually selected someone that people have heard of. The cornerback out of Oregon. Jackson Smith and Jigba out of Ohio State.

He goes to Seattle at number 20. He'll be on the receiving end of passes from Geno Smith. Quentin Johnston from TCU, surprise team last year.

I guess none of the receivers for the Chargers can stay healthy. Zay Flowers from Boston College at number 22. He will be with the Ravens.

Congratulations to Lamar. Jordan Addison goes to Minnesota with the Vikings, replacing, helping to replace Adam Thielen. Nolan Smith at number 30. And the Kansas City Chiefs. Felix Onuduke Uzama out of Kansas State going hometown.

Nolan Smith going to the Philadelphia Eagles. 855-212-4CBS, that's 855-212-4CBS. Let's go ahead and go to Pittsburgh and talk to Justin. You're on CBS Sports Radio. Hey, J.R., love the show. Also like to give a shout out to Chef.

He's always doing a great job also. For the draft for the Steelers, I love that fix of Broderick Jones at 14. I didn't see us trading up, but I was surprised to see that. Would you see us being able to trade down the 32 pick? Because I don't see us like Will Levis is there and teams could also need him. What do you want to do, pick up additional draft capital? Well, I mean there could be like you have 24 hours basically to think about this one. I mean Joey Porter Jr. is there.

I would love to see him. Well, the Steelers are already going to be picking at number 32. They pick again in the second round at number 49. And then they pick again. You've got to wait another round at number 80. And then you go all the way to the seventh round. So, yeah, I can understand if you want to pick up additional draft capital. And I hear what you're saying. Would you not want to just grab Joey Porter Jr. there at that spot? Yeah, I think that would be like the smartest move to do. Well, you know, I still want to give the Steelers, and I always try to give them a little bit of credit.

They don't necessarily – they don't just sink. I know everybody wants to always change up management. People get sick of the coach. The Steelers are one of the organizations that I actually trust when you think about stability.

So I wouldn't worry about it too much there. I'm happy that they got Kenny Pickett a little bit of protection. And let's see what they do to start off the second round. Yeah, I hope they do like something with the defense. Well, in due time.

I mean, the Steelers can't run out of a steel curtain forever, okay? It takes time. Hey, thank you, Justin. Appreciate you, man. Have a great night. Thank you.

You as well. Yeah, sometimes teams – teams got to reset, man. You can't be a great defense forever. We got another team in the NFL that's currently rebuilding. Go ahead and look at the Bears. I mean, how many years did you look at the Bears and go, oh my God, the defense, the defense, the defense, and the offense could never catch up? And then it got to the point where the defense got old, and now the offense is better than the defense.

And it's just like, well, now you got to fix both sides of the football. 855-212-4CBS, speaking of the Bears, Eric is calling from Chicago. You're on the JR Sport Brief Show. What's up, Eric?

What's up, number one stunner? JR, I need you to talk me down, man. Talk me down. I'm out of here, man, on the rooftop ready to jump.

Don't do that. Ryan – what – I need – you got a calm – you got a calm demeanor. I value your intellect and your opine. I need you to explain to me why did Ryan Polis – basically he just let Philadelphia scab, and for nothing, give up Philadelphia, gave them a fourth round for next year, so that they can take the defensive three technique that we needed and give it to Philadelphia. I think one thing that the Bears really need right now, and this is what Ryan Polis said at the end of the season, Justin Fields needs to improve as a passer.

I think that is a number one for the Chicago Bears. You just – you heard what I said right before I picked up the phone about their defense, right? You heard me say they need to fix it. You heard that, right?

I heard it. It does not matter if the Chicago Bears can just go right back out there and just stack up a defense, if the quarterback does not have help and if he cannot put points on the board. They were able to bring in D.J.

Moore. We saw last season, in season, they traded for Chase Claypool, and what you need to do now is protect the man. And so I'm not mad at the Chicago Bears for picking Darnell right out of Tennessee at number 10, because, hey, this is the NFL now. Everybody always loves to say defense wins championships, defense wins championships. Yeah, sure, a big defensive moment, plenty of them.

If you can get some stops, it's going to put you in a good position. Look at the New York Jets. The New York Jets had a damn good defense, and all they needed last year just to stay alive, stay afloat, actually make the playoffs, is a quarterback. And so the Bears have one, and so I'm not too upset at what they've done. Give them some time. It's not going to be fixed. It's just in a draft.

But, J.R., you said it. They need defensive line, offensive line. Okay, the best offensive line tackles, they can get them in the second, third, fourth round. The top ones, they are from the second and third and fourth round. They've got ten picks.

Here it is. The Chicago Bears are not going to fix all of their problems just right now tonight, this weekend, in this draft. Also, you have to think about the quarterback, Justin Fields. He, him and his contract, it's on the clock. And so when you think about the clock that exists from we need to figure out who and what he is, we need to surround him with some talent, you've got less room for error there than you would for the defense. And so that's why I understand your frustration, but it's in time, man. Look, if the Chicago Bears can improve incrementally from what they did last year and get a little better, if we can see Fields improve as a passer, consider that a plus.

They have time, next draft, in free agency, et cetera, to get better. This is not just a one hitter quitter. Sorry about that. Call me the number one stunner. It's the JR Sport Brief Show here with you on CBS Sports Radio. When we come back, I'm going to get some more of your calls.

I'm going to get ready to roll out. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief on CBS Sports Radio. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief on CBS Sports Radio. It's a work night and you keep your company while I'm out here on this rainy night. I appreciate it. I love your show, man. I've been working nights for the past two weeks, so I love watching your show and listening to it. Hey, JR, thanks for being the best person in your line of work.

Call in now at 855-212-4CBS. It's the JR Sport Brief Show here with you on CBS Sports Radio. What a Thursday it's been. First round of the NFL Draft is a wrap. Lamar Jackson finally gets his deal. I guess people can relax on, oh, he needed an agent. Oh, he screwed himself. Yeah, it was a possibility, but it looks like his contract is in line with everybody else's.

Right now he is the highest paid QB in the NFL. Also tonight, the Atlanta Hawks eliminated by the Boston Celtics. The final score, 128 to 120.

It was a back and forth game. Tatum with 30 points. Trae Young ran out of gas at the end of the game. Trae Young had 30. He missed like 12 of his final 13 shots. Kind of crazy, but the Hawks kept fighting.

They just couldn't get the job done. Jason Tatum, he spoke to TNT after the game and said, man, I'm glad we got this crap finished. We made winning plays, and we talked about it before the game. Do whatever it takes. And essentially, don't ask the guys to do anything I wouldn't do. Pick up full court. Block shots. Dive on the floor.

Start from the top. The rest will follow. We made winning plays. Extra kickouts. Al made big shots. Mark made big shots. JB. This was a tough one. It feels good that we won.

I'm sure it felt good that they won. We got another busy Friday. I'm going to be live here on CBS Sports Radio with Zach Geld tomorrow night for the next several rounds of the NFL draft from 6 to 10. Jody Mack is going to hold it down for me starting at 10 p.m. Eastern time, 7 Pacific.

So if you're looking for me, look for me a little bit earlier. 6 p.m. Eastern time, 3 p.m. Pacific. We got a full Friday night as well of some basketball games, some good ones. The Golden State Warriors trying to eliminate the Kings. They lead that series 3-2. Same thing for the Los Angeles Lakers trying to knock off the Grizzlies.

They lead 3-2 as well. Let's get in some of your calls before we roll out. 855-212-4CBS.

That's 855-212-4CBS. Jason is calling from Baltimore. You're on the JR Sport Brief Show. Go ahead, Jason. How you doing, JR? I love your show. Thanks for taking my car. I appreciate it.

Sure. I want to talk about the Lamar Jackson deal. You know, I'm from Baltimore, I'm a Baltimore native. I love Lamar.

I'm glad he got his money. And I really think that they, they flowers was also a good pickup for us. I really love that, that, that pickup. I also wanted to talk about, I think he, I think he needs, I think Lamar needs a little bit more help on the offensive side. I think we also need another wide receiver, but a lot of people has been talking about DHOP, hitting DHOP. Well, we have heard, we've heard, and thank you, Jason, for calling from Baltimore, we've heard that the, that the Cardinals aren't necessarily moving on from, from Hopkins. I will agree with you. Does, does Lamar Jackson need more help? Yeah, we can say that about anybody. I think he would need more protection between Bateman and O'Dell and picking up Zay today and DuVernay and still having Andrews.

I think they have enough weapons to go out there and do some damage. Marty is calling from Westchester, New York. My old home. Hey, Marty, you're on CBS Sports Radio.

Yes. Good morning, JR. I'd like to talk about the Giants, obviously. Joe, Joe Schein, I was looking to look up one pick.

He sees something in Beyonce Banks. I, truthfully, I don't know anything about him, but the Giants didn't need a shut down corner. So hopefully, rounds two and three today, they can go after a wide receiver because you talk about quarterbacks needing help. Daniel Jones does need help with a wide receiving corps. Sure. Absolutely.

Yes, I'm with you. Not all that familiar with Beyonce Banks coming out of Maryland. I know he plays corner.

I know the New York Giants. They had some concerns last year with Adore Jackson and what his workload looked like from returning kicks to also playing corner, and then from a strong safety perspective, having another defensive back like Julian Love, who's now out in Seattle. I'm not all that shocked that the New York Giants went with some defensive back help there.

I agree. Quarterback is a need. And they would talk about, of course, wide receivers a need. And they need a center, too, because they lost both their centers to free agency this last season.

Mick Gates and Joe Feliciano. So they definitely need to look in that direction also. Yes, we'll see what the New York Giants do over the next few days.

I am much more interested to see what resolution they come to, if any, with Saquon Barkley. We just got to wait on that one. Always a pleasure, Marty. Thank you so much. Have a good day, JR. You as well. Thank you. I'll try my best to have a good day, a good night here in Kansas City.

Rick is calling from Baltimore. You're on the JR Sport Brief Show. Pleasure as usual, brother. You've got a great show. Thank you.

Brief as I can. I'm very happy Lamar is getting that money, brother. Very happy. Very happy with the young man they drafted out of Boston College.

The only thing that I'm bewildered about, I'm looking at the five perspective. We've got five picks. What do we need a quarterback for? Another quarterback. Another QB? A backup QB? I'm confused. What are you saying? I'm looking up there and they had the needs.

You know, the graphic. No, I think yes from a backup perspective, but that's for later on. I wouldn't be too concerned with that. The reality is, yes, Lamar does get hurt. I would like to see them get another offensive lineman. Preferably somebody like a tackle, pass block, to protect Lamar, you know? I agree with you wholeheartedly, Rick.

I think that's what they're going to do. I appreciate you for calling from Baltimore. Thank you very much, sir. No doubt about it. Speaking of Lamar Jackson, the man that got paid today, a five-year deal, $260 million, $185 million guaranteed. Lamar Jackson, he was the first dude to go on social media and pretty much announce it.

Take a listen to what Lamar Jackson had to say earlier this afternoon. You know, for the last few months, there's been a lot of he say, she say, a lot of nail biting, a lot of head scratching going on. But for the next five years, it's a lot of flock going on. Let's go, baby. Let's go. Let's go, man. Can't wait to get there. Can't wait to be there. Can't wait to light an M&T for the next five years, man. Let's get it.

I'd be excited, too, if I had a $185 guarantee coming my way. General Manager Eric DaCosta, he put in his two cents on the Ravens' Twitter. He sounded like he's been working all day and all night. Take a listen to him.

He sounds tired from negotiating. Ravens fans, very happy to announce that we have agreed in principle with our quarterback, the franchise quarterback, Lamar Jackson. Very excited. It was a long, long process.

But family is never easy. We're thrilled that we're able to get this done. And the question now is, what do we do for an encore?

OK, what do we do for an encore? Well, you know what, he didn't even get a break because he was able to complete this contract with Lamar. And then he has to work the rest of the draft. There's no rest for the weary here. I was going to say maybe tonight he's having himself a drink, but I'm sure he slipped one of those in there as well.

He has more work to do the rest of the weekend. You've been listening to the J.R. Sport Brief Show here with you on CBS Sports Radio. And you have a great show tomorrow as well. Thank you. Look, I'm in the same spot as Will Leviss. Not drafted.

He probably has better odds than me. Listen, folks, the J.R. Sport Brief Show on CBS Sports Radio, it's a wrap. But don't move here on CBS Sports Radio because Amy Lawrence, she is awesome.

And she's coming up next. Thank you, Kansas City. I'm J.R. of the J.R. Sport Brief Show on CBS Sports Radio. I'm also the host of the new podcast, Agents of Inclusion. We talk to a different Special Olympics athlete every week to learn how sports can bring us together. We're bringing both the disability and non-disability community to one community.

All one people, one family. It took me a little while, but I decided to claim autism as my superpower. When you hear the word autism, don't let that hinder you from doing whatever it is that you want to do. That's what Special Olympics tells you. You get involved in sports, but then you take it from the playing field out into real life. Family means to me community, acceptance, love, embracing a person just as they are. That's what Special Olympics did for me. It's all about family.
