They beat them 120 to 111. The New York Knicks. They beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 99 to 79. The New York Knicks take a 2-1 series lead.

And I actually went to this game before I came into the studio. The Atlanta Hawks. They beat the Celtics 130 to 122 here in Atlanta. And the Atlanta Hawks, instead of being down 3-0 and facing elimination on Sunday, the Atlanta Hawks now earn a deficit of 2-1. They have an opportunity to tie the series on Sunday.

Let's see if they do it. So we've had a busy night so far. We spoke to George Foreman. We've talked some basketball. We talked about the suspensions and NFL players out here gambling. And it's a tough world.

And so I'm going to play you some audio. We're going to take a trip around the world of the NBA tonight. And then we'll look at some of the games tomorrow. Don't expect to see Joel Embiid. He didn't get suspended but he has a sore right knee. So he won't be in action for the 76ers against the Nets. And then Kawhi Leonard.

What else is new? He has a sprained right knee as well. He's going to miss his second consecutive game as the Phoenix Suns just try to go up 3-1 against the Clippers. 8-5-5, 2-1-2-4, CBS.

Hey, how you doing, Jake? I wanted to talk a little boxing with you. I heard you guys bring up Sugar Ray Leonard.

You were talking about the fight with Tamar Knight and Tank and Ryan, of course. But Ray Leonard's name always comes out of nowhere. And people call him the greatest.

I don't know why. When there's Bernie O'Whittaker and people like that, that's the greatest U.S. Olympic boxing team in 1984 who really outshined Leonard's 76 team. You know, hand speed defense and all that.

But they always eluded Ray Leonard. I guess he's a pretty boy. I guess it weighs a lot in the fight game and everywhere else. Well, I think it does. And this is the cool thing about boxing. People are going to go up and down as to who they think the greatest of all time is. We can sit down here and start rattling folks off, whether you want to go into Marciano or you want to look at Mayweather or you want to look at Ali. There's plenty.

I don't know. The Ring magazine said Pernell Whittaker was the greatest defensive fighter of all time a few years ago. The defense was clearly a plus for Whittaker over Leonard.

That's also very subjective. I mean, if I have to think about Ring magazine, I can go back and I'm into boxing, man. There's a bunch of dudes who I sit around and stand around. There's guys that I know. I don't sit around telling you that I know Roy Jones. And I'm around fighters. And one thing I can tell you is fighters don't sit around and have these conversations about themselves. The fans do. And so I appreciate greatness for what it is.

And it comes in different forms. And we sit around forever going, who's the greatest of all time? That's like me looking at Babe Ruth right now and saying, oh, he's the greatest baseball player of all time. Well, is he? Possibly. Maybe. He's amongst them. But, you know, like you say, opinions, right? Yes.

So I think there's plenty, man. I mean, you could legitimately look at Floyd Mayweather. I don't I don't necessarily believe it because I don't think he always fought the best of the best when they were at their best. Right. But he's still amongst them. Floyd, you know, just like Marciano, you don't get that zero without being expected. Right.

But but the word amongst, amongst. Here's the here's the here's the worst thing about boxing. And this this has not changed. That will never change because there's too much money involved. And this is where boxing is different from the UFC. You can go forward. And treat boxing is like the circus boxing is I'm going to set up my tent, I'm going to make the most noise.

I'm going to attract as many people and then I'm going to leave. And the point of boxing is to set up as many circus stops as possible over and over and over again. And as a result, we see a lot of fighters go out and cherry pick their opponents. And so we don't always see the best versus the best. Not today.

We did with the net. Correct. Correct. But even going back in time, we saw more of it. But then at the same time, I'm like one champion, you know. Right. Well, now we got we got four belts and we got honorary belts and it's kind of dilutes.

It kind of dilutes a lot of what we see today. And so my point about Mayweather is, OK, he fought young Canelo Alvarez. All right.

All right. Made him look like an old man. He sure did.

What what would this look like after Canelo would have matured? And we can't we can't change that. OK. I mean, he put he put what's his name on his resume? Conor McGregor. Like, come on. Yeah.

So it's subjective. I appreciate anybody going out there to throw hands because God knows I ain't doing it. What do you think of the fight tomorrow? Tank or Ryan? Body shot, man.

And you know, Ryan, he has pretty good body work as well. Who knows? Right. But I think Tank will prevail in the end. You know, it'll take Davis. Tank Davis will win. There's going to be I feel it's going to be something crazy about tomorrow.

You know, boxing is such an interesting sport. I don't think winning. Ryan is going to hurt him. He's going to hurt him before Tank wins. Ryan can watch him. He's got hand speed like Tank too.

I don't. Yeah, but he don't have power like him. And I think once the smaller guy gets into his body, it's he's going to wear him out. Let's see Curtis. OK. Yeah. Thank you for calling from Baltimore. Yes.

Look, Ryan Garcia. If he wins, if he wins, it's even it's it's so difficult for me to say if he wins. It's going to have to be something controversial.

There's going to be something tomorrow. Is it going to be a knockout? Will it be a draw? Is it a controversial draw? Does Ryan shock the world?

Go ahead, Alan. That's one nice fight is definitely has the hype and advanced billing. Davis is 28. No, it's 26 kills in Garcia's 23.

You know, with 19 chaos. And think about this. Both in their prime at their zenith and most important of all, seemingly invincible. And, you know, they're both extremely confident, but seemingly invincible.

I can't picture anyone losing. And Garcia has the reach and Davis has to get inside. Whether he can do it or not is it is another matter. But Garcia can't.

He can't show bravado. He can't go toe to toe bombs away with him. You know, if he does, then that's an early knockout for Davis and Davis can't.

He can't stay outside and try to box him either. So it's it's going to be very interesting fight. I don't want to make a prediction because it's too tough to call. You can make a prediction if you want. That's your right. But I'm not going to make a prediction, though.

Yeah, I'm not sure. I'm not sure that that that Ryan Garcia. To be honest, I'm not sure that either one of these dudes have necessarily hit their prime. I still think both of these fighters are on the come up.

I just think it is a very cool thing that they have both reached this point of their careers and that we do see them fight. I, I, I held the press conference. I moderated the press conference for Tank Davis's last fight when he took on the other Garcia.

And we had the press conference in Washington, D.C. And I posed a question to Tank's trainer. It's like, hey, how are you going to look towards Ryan? And you got Hector right in front of you. And they said, man, we ain't thinking about we ain't thinking about Ryan. We got to take care of Hector first. And then we have to move forward and then we have to move on. And I respected that answer. And I think this is the first time that either one of these fighters are really, really going to face adversity.

And tomorrow is going to be cool. I don't think I don't think they're evenly matched unless there's an issue going on with with Gervonta Davis. I'm not I'm not looking at at Ryan as as his equal.

Say what you have to say quickly. The Philadelphia 76ers. I was just thinking about those guys and the beard. He's a great regular season player. But when it comes to the playoffs, he never shows up. And I don't think they can. They're talking about going all the way and I just don't feel like they can go all the way with that guy as guard.

Yeah, I don't think I don't think anyone is looking at the Sixers to go all the way. And I think most people understand that James Harden isn't the same player. Is he still serviceable? I mean, the other night he put up 21 points before he got the boot.

Thank you, Dale, for calling from Alabama. But he can have his moments, but it's not going to be the consistent outbursts like he used to, where you just knew that any game, any moment, James Harden could just go on a tear and walk away with 37 points, with 40 points like them days are over. Age, injury and God bless his soul. James Harden did not load manage. James Harden was the Houston Rockets for nine years and he just went he went all the way to the wall.

He really did. Speaking of all the way to the wall, the Atlanta Hawks, they had their backs up against the wall tonight here in Atlanta, and they were able to hold on. Trae Young lighting it up 32 points. De'Jaunte Murray lighting it up 25 points. They had Bogdanovich had 15. Sadiq Bey had 15. They both had 15 apiece off of the bench in the Atlanta Hawks. They live to fight another day, not just on Sunday, but this series, if it's going to go anywhere, it's going to go to five. And Quinn Snyder, head coach of the Atlanta Hawks, he said, man, my guys got busy in the third and that helped us win the game.

Listen to this. You know, I thought Trae and D.J. from a leadership standpoint, really the beginning of the third quarter, I thought was a crucial time for us when we came out of time out. And those two guys, you know, over the course of the game, I think not just with, you know, the other guys in the team, but with one another, you know, connecting and pushing each other. Our bench was really good.

We've been getting contributions from a lot of different guys. And I think that a lot of that had to do with our fans. Yeah, the fans. Fans were hot in State Farm Arena tonight. They were really into the game.

And so Quinn Snyder had no choice but to go with the hot hand. It's similar to the Boston Celtics. I mean, Grant Williams has been in cobwebs. And tonight he finished with 14 points while Jalen Brown was was sitting down. And so it's not all that easy.

People think, oh, man, someone has autism or they have a disability that they are now, you know, let's put them in the corner. And you heard you heard Michael this morning. You heard him on WEEI, right?

Yes, I did, sir. There's nothing wrong. There's nothing wrong with communicating or speaking to Michael like Harvard.

Harvard hired him to be their their public address announcer for sports. And he has autism. So, I mean, let's put one and one together here. Everybody's.

Go ahead. J.R., the Lord works in all of us, man. He just he just he's just there. That's what that's how I believe, man. Some people just are less fortunate than others. And that's where I believe God kicks in. Yeah.

I don't look at anybody as as being more or less fortunate. It's what you got in your gut and what you do with it. And we have your soul, man. That's where everything lies.

Donovan Mitchell only had twenty two points and the New York Knicks were able to spread the wealth. Jalen Brunson with twenty one. R.J.

Bat with nineteen. Julius Randle. He had a crap night. Eleven points of three of fifteen shooting.

But they even got help and work off the bench. Josh Hart coming off of his bad ankle. Thirteen. Emmanuel quickly.

Eleven. And this was the first home game this series for the New York Knicks. And so Madison Square Garden was unhinged in a positive way.

The energy in there was off the chain, especially with a block like this. And the fans even took it outside after the game. A lot of comments tonight about the fans, about the energy and being lifted up.

Tom Thibodeau, Tibbs. He talked about the defense and how the Knicks were able to hold the Cavs to only seventy nine points. We had good overall activity, good intensity. Guys were connected. Did a good job challenging shots and then finishing.

Thank you for the enthusiasm. Julius Randle. I told you he had a crap shooting night, but they still walked away with the victory.

And Julius Randle, he likes how they played defense. We were locked in on the end of what we needed to do. I feel like we played them well last year on the defensive end. Only thing that hurts us is our turnovers. We had a lot of turnovers that second quarter the last game. So we cleaned that up and was able to get stops and execute on the offensive end.

OK. I guess the New York Knicks players, they're going to be relaxed. But the Knicks fans, no, they weren't relaxed. They were over here climbing poles outside of Madison Square Garden as a group of thousands of them acting like they've never won anything.

Go, go, go, go, go, go. We're back on track on the floor scoring Morris ninety four and the Knicks are hard core. And I'll tell you like this, we ain't never looked sharp. That's the last time the New York Knicks were good. We can turn that crap off. Well, let me not call it crap.

I know the guy who made that song anyway. R.J. Barrett, he was actually happy about the Knicks, or at least the fans. Listen to this. Yeah, everybody playing is so cool.

Yeah, we're spending too much time around tips. The Knicks, the players. Yes. Oh, yeah.

Like they sound like they had a funeral, man. There has to be a middle ground. The fans can't act like complete jackasses outside and the players can't act like this is just I guess this is good.

Let me be clear here. One of the reasons that the Cavaliers probably lost tonight, I will assume. Madison Square Garden is is nuts. It is an intimidating place. It is just the atmosphere of this place. And it's hard to describe unless you've been in there. The energy is different than any other arena, I would say, in the country. When it's good, not when the Knicks are bad, but the place gets jumping for America, you go overseas and you see some soccer or football overseas. It's different. I've been to Bundesliga games in Germany and it is a totally different animal.

You would think here we were watching where we're sitting in church and comparison. But Madison Square Garden gets to moving and shaking. And I'm sure that the Cleveland Cavaliers intimidated might not be the word.

They were affected playing inside Madison Square Garden. They had to be. You look to your left and you go, oh, well, there's J. Cole. And then you look to your right and then you go, oh, well, there's Spike Lee. And then you look up and then there's a supermodel and there's 20 of them. And then there's Odell Beckham. And there's it's it gets busy.

And then the atmosphere and the stage lighting that the noise, the noise gets held this body to body. It's pretty crazy. Hey, shop, you have an example of something? I believe so, Jr. Yes. Nineteen ninety four NBA finals. You remember that series that back and forth game seven.

I remember the Knicks lost against the Rockets. But go ahead. What do we have?

And now please welcome the 1994 Eastern Conference. Number 11. Wait a minute. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.

Shop. How many how many years ago was that? So this was twenty eight.

No. Now it's twenty nine. Twenty nine years ago. That was 30 years ago. Yeah.

Ninety four finals. Hey, Marco, where's the time machine, man? Oh, man, I can go back there. I can go back there in my mind already. I can go. Oh, my God.

But well, well, well, let's stop and think about this. John's talk is online, too, doesn't that? He was at the game tonight. Of course he was him and Sprewell.

They get any checks from that that curmudgeon. But anyway, doesn't this feel like yesterday or my bargain? Is it just me? A little bit. Yes, because it's so right at the forefront of my mind. When you look back at thirty, you know, my stuff has changed in 30 years. Like, yeah, there was there was there's a lot that happened between that and now. Yeah, but at the same time, it doesn't feel it feels like yesterday to me. It feels like yesterday. You know.

Patrick, you. I don't know about you, J.R., does it still feel like yesterday with Starks on the lane, missing the layup and Ewing coming back with the dunk and then him with the arms outstretched in game seven against the Pacers to get to the final? Well, all of it feels like yesterday. All of it does.

I don't know. Maybe I need to have a worse memory. It just makes me go, well, damn, I had to go, wow. The nineteen ninety four playoffs with the Knicks and the Rockets was almost 30 years ago. I got to go, whoa, how, what, how, where, what, what, how 30 years to put it into some perspective for everybody.

Game one of that series. O.J. Simpson was still a hero. I was going to say O.J. Simpson. White Bronco interrupted. I remember.

It depends on who you ask on social media, but some still think I'm a hero. I here's the thing. I remember when they started the trial, I remember coming home from school and watching a trial while I did my homework. Like, that's I don't know. I need a time machine. Well, maybe I'm just stuck in the 90s.

I don't know. Well, you fellas remember this. Ninety four. The Yankees should have won the World Series. Obviously, a strike played a part. The Rangers won the Stanley Cup.

The Knicks were within a two for 18. John Stark's performance of winning the NBA championship for the first time in 20 and 21 years. Hey, Paul O'Neill.

Incredible. Ninety four year for New Yorkers. Paul O'Neill was on his way to a batting title that year as well. That's right. And Mr. Padre was going to break 400, in my opinion. Yeah, that was Tony.

Yeah. And you got to throw these Starks. You know, if Kim Olajuwon doesn't get a fingernail on that shot at the end of game six, Starks would have been a hero. That three goes down, the Knicks actually win.

Let's not put it all on Starks. Well, beware this year of 31st Street because New York Knicks fans are climbing poles. They're humping poles. They're chanting. I don't know what the hell they're doing.

Can I say this, though? I mean, again, for the morons that are climbing poles, you're up 2-1 in the first round. Can we calm the hell down?

No. So what happens when they lose? Nothing. Nothing.

They just disappear. The same nonsense that they were doing a couple of years ago when they won game two against the Hawks. They're like dancing through the streets and you're out in five in the first round. Like, can we get a grip? Can you calm the hell down?

It's the first round. Slow down. You can be excited. You don't have to act like an ass cloud. There's a line, okay?

Try to toe that line a little bit, please. Well, when you never win anything, you have to – you got to light beams, right? And then you wonder why people don't like you. Yeah, but you got to light beams.

You got to climb poles. And so telling someone who's never won any – well, not in a long time. You know, you got to act a certain way. You know, you're supposed to act like you've been there before.

Well, there's a lot of Nick fans that they don't remember. I don't even want to say good years, but they don't. It's not one generation. It's like two. Yeah, we're talking about 20 years.

I don't care about a pop-up here or there. The Knicks have been bad for the better part of 20 years now. 20 years. And so all them idiots climbing poles, these New York Knicks might as well be the Lions, okay? That's why they're acting like this.

Nikola Jokic's final line for tonight, 20 points, 12 assists, 11 rebounds. Throwing alley-oops to Gordon and hooking up Michael Porter for 25. Jamal Murray didn't go off for 40. He only had 18 tonight.

Oh, how terrible he is. And Nikola Jokic, he spoke to ESPN after the game with Jorge Sadano, and he showed a lot of love to his teammates because they knocked down shots. Nikola, they got as close as three points. They kept getting close and close, but you guys kept pushing away.

How were you guys able to do that tonight? I mean, we know that they're going to go gutsy. They're going to attack the paint.

They're going to attack down here especially. He had 15 free throws, so that's how we expected. We know he's going to be aggressive. We need to do a little bit of a job focusing and staying in the coverage and make him finish over us. But we won the game.
