I'm going to be hanging out here with you for the next four hours and I'm going to have a good old time. Thank you so much to super producer and host Dave Shepherd and thank you to everybody listening all over North America. I'm coming to you live from Atlanta, Georgia.

A big shout out to super producer Dave Shepherd. He's coming to you live from New York City. And New York City this afternoon has been the center of attention in the sports world.

You could thank Kyrie Irving for that and yeah we're going to talk about Kyrie Irving. We're going to talk about Derek Carr. These are two individuals who wear black, white, silver.

One plays in the city, one plays in the desert. And both are ready to go. What a day this has been. We're going to talk about it all. Kyrie Irving's trade request. Derek Carr is not rescinding anything. He wants his money and a trade.

This has been a wild Friday. Here's the deal. I'm here with you every single weeknight starting at 10 p.m eastern time, 7 p.m pacific. If you want to talk to us it's simple. We got a phone number. It's 855-212-4CBS.

That's 855-212-4CBS. You can also get a hold of me. I'm on social media.

Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, at JR Sport Brief. And we're going to talk about Kyrie Irving and his trade request in a few minutes. It is just I'm tickled over that. Yeah tickled.

You heard me correctly. I am tickled over this idea. I saw the story and I was giddy.

I have been tickled. I have been giddy. I can't contain myself.

It might sound like I'm containing myself but I can't. We're going to get into Kyrie Irving and Derek Carr and some of these other wild stories that we have seen over the past 24 hours. A big thank you to everybody listening on the free odyssey app. Thank you to people tuned in on the local affiliate in your city. People on Sirius XM channel 158 and everybody tuning in and locked in on a smart speaker. It could be your phone. It could be an Alexa. It could be whatever.

I'm glad that you're here. Hey Shep, I understand you coached a basketball game today. I did, yes. What? It doesn't sound good but what were the results of that basketball game? You know what, JR, we lost 49 to 44. Oh that's good.

Yeah, thank you man. We were, you know, listening. We were missing, you know, two of our key players to be honest and, you know, two bigs and then JV so much of it is rebounding because they miss a lot at that level. Yeah, of course, I'm sorry. Well, I don't, let's put it this way, there's always room for improvement but I'm very, I'm very proud of the team that I coached this year.

It was our last game unless something miraculous happens. So it was an honor and a privilege to coach young men. It's really cool obviously to be on the mic every single night with you and produce a show but, you know, JR, you know what it's like to be working in the trenches with young individuals and touching their lives the way that you do as a mentor with Special Olympics and coaching young men and young women in broadcasting. It's the ultimate privilege and I couldn't have asked for a better opportunity. Yeah, you sound like you have been exercising your voice this evening.

Is that accurate? You've been exercising your voice. Oh, well, I wanted to leave everything out there. I always tell the players, you know, listen, sometimes shots are gonna miss and you're gonna win, you're gonna lose, but the one thing you cannot live with is knowing you could have given just a little bit more and so I left everything out on the table tonight and we lost by five, a team that, you know, beat us by 16 at home.

We lost by five on the road without two key players. I am, the stings, but I'm so proud of, so proud of these young men. Congratulations. Thank you, JR. I appreciate that. So do I not talk to you the rest of the evening? Oh, well, listen, JR, man, I'm, listen, man, I love this show. I would, I would have, you need me to talk about whatever, man.

I'm here for you. You know that. You sound like you got chopped in the throat by Ric Flair. You sound like you got punched in an Adam's apple. You know, it's shame I'm not an adult.

I'm not an adult. You know, it's shame I'm not on a date right now because this voice might actually do some, do some work. Well, this is why I told you a couple of weeks ago, you need to listen to some of that Teddy Pendergrass. He is pretty good.

He is pretty good, but JR, I really do appreciate you asking, man. Coaching is, coaching is fun, man. You know, when you, you know, you wonder why these guys coach for so long. Coach K just retired.

I know you were all over that farewell tour and you have individuals like Nick Saban, who's talking about coaching till 80 and Bill Belichick doesn't look to be giving it up anytime soon. And, and, and you really get it. It, it, it consumes you, but in the best way possible. Oh, that's fun. Yes.

Well, next thing, if you need to be hooked up with a, a college program, uh, I can help you make that happen. No way. Really? Yeah. You want to coach that for them? I appreciate that. You want me to, I'll be a head coach.

I can get you on the door. Absolutely. Look at you. No, I could. That's football. Oh, you said, you said no, but I don't coach football though.

That wouldn't go over well. Basketball. Oh, basketball. I could coach. I could coach basketball with the lights off and be sleeping. I could coach that sport.

Yeah. I, listen, you let me know. I, we get you a little coaching experience.

You may have to like, uh, start at the bottom, but I can get you on the door somewhere. I appreciate that. Has there ever been, obviously you've made it big time in, in, in your respective career. Has there ever been a part of you that, no, you know, that's true. I'm being that serious.

You know that to be true. But have you ever thought about, have you ever thought about, because you love working with youth as well. You ever think about coaching? No. A sport? No. No. Okay.

Everything I can do, I can do, uh, verbally. Got it. Fair enough.

Without having to instruct. Got it. Got it.

I'd rather tell people about experiences and bring people together like I do here. That's it. Yeah, man.

So why do I just talk, man? Yeah. New, speaking of talk, man, new new called, uh, uh, you know, last night. That was pretty cool.

He has almost a billion views on one music video. I wonder when I listened to the guitar. Yeah. That was pretty cool that we've had a busy week.

Jared Payton. Yes. Yeah. Yeah.

Yeah. And I, I'm going to try to see both of them next week in, uh, in Phoenix. That's awesome, man. I'm going to hit up new, no, I'm going to hit up, uh, Jack Payton. I'm going to hit up both of them.

That's awesome. They are. I'm gonna make them pay for lunch too. I ain't paying for lunch. You make them pay for you saying where Rihanna Rihanna tell Rihanna pay for lunch. Yeah.

Well, I tell you what do one better. I know you said it's, it's, it's next to impossible, but, uh, she wants to come on the JR support brief. That'd be a pretty, what I'm gonna talk to Rihanna about. You know what?

There's a sector of society that doesn't really know who she is. I mean, ask her about the game. Yeah.

Yeah. I mean, ask her about her career. I didn't listen. I didn't hear her speaking a verbal. I didn't hear her give a response to what Steven. They said he's not worthy. She's above it. I get it. But I would like her to shed some light on this notion that she's going to call him a loser from Queens, New York. Hollis Queens, right? I don't know where he's from.

Okay. He's just a guy with a loud mouth. He's, he's been very successful. He's, uh, he's amazing and he entertains him. Uh, he's the most popular big mouth in America when it comes to sports. So good for, what is Rihanna going to say to him? Well, I think I don't like how a lot of times it seems like with entertainers, uh, we often use them and pit them against each other in order to elevate one.

And you've, you've, you know, made that point very clear on this show time and time again. So yeah. Well anyway, Rihanna ain't got nothing to say about that sucker. Gotcha. She's above it. I get it. Oh, I can imagine. I have an idea of what she says privately, but, uh, there's no need for her to share that in a public forum. Congratulations, Rihanna.

And about, what is it? Nine days, nine days, chef, right? Nine days, super bowl, nine days. You would be a hundred percent correct.

In nine days, Rihanna will perform during the super bowl between the Eagles and the chiefs. And then we can all sit around and enjoy it. Anyway, today, speaking of public, I wish I was sitting down because I wasn't. I was standing up and maybe that would have been better. I did not fall, but I had to do a double take. And then I had to do a triple take. And then I had to verify the source. And then I had to look again.

And then I had to make sure I was not being punked. Kari Irving has expressed his desire to be traded from the Brooklyn Nets. Kari Irving this afternoon, I assume via his representation, which happens to be his mother-in-law or not his mother-in-law, his step-mom. Kari Irving has made it very clear that the Brooklyn Nets need to trade him between now and February 9th, the trade deadline or sooner, or there will be no resigning with the Brooklyn Nets in free agency at the end of the year, at the end of the season.

Which is basically, you can really look at the scenario, you can look at the situation and you can say, oh my God, this is a massive middle finger to the Brooklyn Nets. Is anybody shocked? Is anybody surprised? I looked at the scenario, I looked at the situation and I just laughed. And I laughed.

And then I laughed some more. Because Kari Irving, he played the Brooklyn Nets. The Brooklyn Nets thought that they played Kari Irving. The Brooklyn Nets thought that they had power over Kari Irving. The Brooklyn Nets thought that they had some leverage and they didn't.

They don't. This goes all the way back to 2019. This goes back to the summer of 2019 on a Sunday afternoon, a Sunday evening. And I remember it vividly because I was on air. I was right here in Atlanta, Georgia. I was broadcasting probably talking about the Atlanta Braves. And then boom, I don't remember who came first.

It really doesn't matter to me. Kari Irving joining the Brooklyn Nets. Kevin Durant joining the Brooklyn Nets. And even though Kevin Durant coming off of a busted up Achilles, it was like, oh my God, this might be a Mulligan year, but these two dudes are going to compete for a championship at minimum for two seasons plus.

It didn't happen. 2019 was a wash. 2020 was the COVID year. 2021, it was, oh my God, if the Brooklyn Nets are actually healthy now with an addition of James Harden, they actually look good. And then we moved into a space of James Harden is gone.

He don't want no part of this nonsense. Kevin Durant wanted to trade in the off season. Kari Irving wanted to trade in the off season, but nobody was willing to trade for him or meet the Brooklyn Nets asking price. And Kari Irving said, I bet I'm going to show up to work and I'm going to go out there and I am just going to bust ass. And that's what Kari Irving has done so far this season. Kari Irving has returned to his all star form. He is a starter for the Eastern Conference on the all star team. Kari Irving is averaging 27 points per game, five assists, five rebounds. He is shooting 37% from downtown. He is shooting 88% from the free throw line.

And Kari Irving looks like Kari. And about two weeks from now, it'll be official. He'll be an eight-time all star. And in about two weeks from now, damn it, in about a week, he should be on another team. This has been a battle between an individual player and a team.

Unfortunately, for the most part, the players always win. The Brooklyn Nets, well, not even. Kari Irving couldn't find the ideal trade scenario in the off season. He had no choice but to opt into this season, collect his $36 million, however it was going to be, and he was going to win. $36 million, however it was going to come, whoever it was going to send it to him, and just show up and play. And that he did. Until he decided to share out an anti-Semitic video, which net him a reprieve, a disappearing act, for about a week or so.

Two weeks. He comes back. Kevin Durant is still healthy, and the Brooklyn Nets end up annihilating everybody in their way. It looks like the Brooklyn Nets might actually live up to their potential as championship contenders. Kevin Durant goes down, spraying ligament in his knee. Kevin Durant won't be back for a few weeks. Kari Irving's agent, his stepmom, made it very clear to the media, to the press, about a week ago. Now, emphasis on now is the time to come to an agreement if the Brooklyn Nets want Kari Irving.

Now is the time. 27-5-5. Guys who do that don't grow on trees. Guys who have had some of the most important shots in the NBA Finals, they don't grow on trees. Point guards who can get their shot anywhere on the court, on the floor, from the outside to the inside, they don't grow on trees. And so Kari Irving had and has the leverage just because of his talent. Again.

And he pulled his card. Y'all ain't gonna pay me now? I'm gone.

Y'all figure it out. And if you don't trade me now, which would be to your benefit if you trade me, at minimum you get back some assets. By the time free agency comes in June and July, I'm gone. You can watch me walk out the door for nothing. And so the Brooklyn Nets here are handcuffed.

They thought they had the leverage. Nobody wants you, Kari. You can't find a trade partner. Sorry, Kari. You gotta stay here. Kari Opson. Oh, Kari, you wanna continue to tweet out anti-Semitic nonsense, then oh, Kari, we gonna make you pay. Nobody wanted you.

You here with us. Kari Irving did all of his talking on the court. And the Brooklyn Nets who decided to look at everything about their future, competing for championships with Durant, competing for a championship with Kyrie, they looked at this as the last stand. Oh my God, Durant wants to leave.

Kyrie wants to leave. Oh my God, they're still here. Maybe we can squeeze something out of it. Has the carriage turned into a pumpkin yet? Did Cinderella lose that shoe, that glass slipper? Did it turn into a rock? Did midnight strike?

It has. The Brooklyn Nets, I don't even know if it's appropriate for me to say they turned back into a disaster. They still are a disaster. In about a week or so, there's still gonna be a disaster. And then, unless there's a miracle, unless there's a miracle and it's not Christmas, I can't even call it a Christmas miracle because Christmas was about a month and change away. It's gonna take a miracle for them to do anything with Kevin Durant. It's gonna take a miracle for Kevin Durant to go, it's gonna take a miracle for Kevin Durant to go, can y'all move me again, please? Can y'all try?

This is a disaster. The Brooklyn Nets rolled the dice in 2019. And can you blame them? What team would look at Kevin Durant and injured Kevin Durant? What team would look at Kyrie Irving?

What team would look at that combination and say no? The Brooklyn Nets said yes. They said yes and then they thought bringing in Kenny Atkinson would work and it did not. They gave him the boot. They thought bringing in a Hall of Fame player, one of the greatest point guards and shooters of all time, and Steve Nash, they thought that would work and it did not.

They gave him the boot because the players didn't want him. Jacques Vaughan comes on. Jacques Vaughan has an amazing stretch helping to turn the Brooklyn Nets around.

Jacques Vaughan has not been given the boot. But Kyrie Irving says y'all ain't paying me. I've upped my trade value.

I'm leaving. And y'all gotta trade me now or you will pay the price come summertime. Kyrie Irving played the Nets and the Nets allowed themselves to be played. The players have the power. The players have the influence. And sometimes it doesn't pay to be nice. The Brooklyn Nets were painted into a corner and the day has come because they didn't want to pay Kyrie Irving. And can you blame them for not wanting to pay him?

I can't. It's just a sad scenario. It's a lesson learned. Be careful who you build a team with. Be careful who you bring in as a free agent. Hey, go ahead and look at that resume, what they've done in the past.

Because whether it's one year, two years, or three years down the line, it might bite you in the ass. Kyrie Irving over the past several months played the Brooklyn Nets. And over the past year and change, the Brooklyn Nets just played themselves.

Somebody find the clown nose so they can put it on. It's the JR Sportbrief Show here with you on CBS Sports Radio. I encourage you not to get played.

Don't play yourself. The phone lines are open. That's 855-2124 CBS. That's 855-2124 CBS. That's 855-2124 CBS. That's 855-2124 CBS. What are your thoughts on Kyrie Irving wanting this trade?

What are your thoughts on the Brooklyn Nets pretty much having to acquiesce to his trade demands? I'm going to get to your calls on the other side of the broadcast. We are just getting started here on CBS Sports Radio. You're listening to the JR Sportbrief on CBS Sports Radio. JR wants to hear from you. Call him now at 855-212-4CBS.

That's 855-212-4CBS. It's the JR Sportbrief Show here with you on CBS Sports Radio. Right before we went to break, of course, we talked about this situation involving Kyrie Irving just kind of popping up randomly on a Friday afternoon that Kyrie Irving wants out. He wants to be traded from the Brooklyn Nets. It's been revealed and shared to us and actually it came down via his stepmom that, hey, now's the time to come to a contract extension if the Brooklyn Nets want to keep him.

She said that about a week ago. Well, they didn't come to an agreement with any type of contract extension, a deal that would have netted Kyrie Irving $200 million over about the next four years. And I can understand the Brooklyn Nets not wanting to do that.

It's been reported that there were plenty of incentives in the deal and they said no. And Kyrie Irving said, okay, well, I will not stay here with the Brooklyn Nets at the end of the season. I will be leaving in free agency. So trade me. And the Brooklyn Nets can't do anything but trade the guy unless they just want to watch him walk in the summer for nothing.

Card pulled. Kyrie Irving has the leverage. Kevin Durant is currently out with an injury.

The Brooklyn Nets as a team right now are 31 and 20. They have been floundering a little bit without Kevin Durant. Kyrie Irving has been shouldering the load. Matter of fact, it was only after their recent loss, and I don't want to call it a loss, I want to call it a blowout, 139 to 96 the Celtics beat the Brooklyn Nets that Kyrie Irving spoke after the game.

And he was just like, oh, yeah, whatever, just let's get this crap over with. I mean, when you're going against a very motivated team, such as the Boston Celtics, they have a chip on their shoulder. It's clear as day that they want to win the championship and they're not wasting any time in the regular season. So tonight I felt like we were just one of those teams in the way. And, you know, we just can't be one of those teams in the way. We got to be one of those teams that stands up to them and at least shows them that we're going to be competition for them moving forward, which I believe we are. But tonight we just didn't show it. So can't hang our heads. Got to keep our heads up and just get ready for this next home stand that we have.

You know, obviously it's disappointing. I would love to come in here to Boston and beat them. Even when they came to our house in Brooklyn, we love to beat them.

But just take the lessons and, you know, as one of the leaders, just see where I can continue to prepare better and lead a better example out there. Yeah, there is no future for the Brooklyn Nets if that Kevin Durant guy is not playing. I think most of us know that. 855-2124 CBS, that's 855-2124 CBS. Ramon is calling from Indianapolis. Hey, good evening. Good night to you, Jay. Thanks for taking my call.

Really appreciate you giving us a chance to speak and give a real good, thoughtful analysis. I'm going to take a different approach considering I'm almost 60, so I've old enough to see Magic get Paul Westfall fired and Norm Nixon traded for Byron Scott. I saw Casey Jones get fired for Bill Fitch. Don't know if Larry Bird wanted that or not, but that was the rumor back then. I saw Dr. Jay make an ultimatum to Philadelphia if you give Moses Malone or else. We see what Aaron Rogers is doing about to come up to present day. Tom Brady is not a patriot or did not retire. Peyton Manning, I know for a fact, I know this for a fact, Peyton Manning was not even told by Indianapolis. They were cutting him. He found out on ESPN.

So it's a nasty business. I don't like, I thought that there was some help there. I thought that there was something there when Durant came back. I actually thought he kind of held him afloat with Durant asking to be traded from there before the season.

Something's not right there. So I'm not going to put it all on Kyrie, but I'm not going to put it all on players. We've seen owners do some very bonds in Pittsburgh.

He gave, you know, ended up in Frisco. We just can count over and over and over again how they either cut people, trade people or things have happened. So it's unfortunate. I'm definitely not going to pile on them because it has been done this way for a long time.

Thanks for taking my time. Absolutely. Thank you Ramon for calling from Indianapolis. And we, if we want to talk about players utilizing their influence to get an individual fired, we've seen that. Steve Nash is sitting on a beach somewhere playing soccer with his kids and good for him. The Brooklyn Nets had to throw, it's a player's league. That's just what it is. They had to throw everything at Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving just to get these guys to show up to work. They respect the Jacques Vaughn.

It's still a business. Look, here's the deal. Look, here's the deal. Kyrie Irving wants his money. He wants his next contract.

He doesn't want to leave it to chance moving on into the summertime. If there's going to be a willing sucker to add him to their team right now, Kyrie Irving wants the money now. Sign and trade.

Let's come to an agreement. Trade me and understand that I will be a part of your franchise for the next three to four years. Good, bad, headaches, injuries, controversy, whatever it might be. Do I need to tell you what LeBron James tweeted today?

Just an eyeball emoji. You want to know what Tristan Thompson said? And I don't know where he's at. He was sitting on television the last I saw Tristan Thompson. Tristan Thompson just said, hey, let's get the band and the gang back together.

Yeah, from the Cleveland Cavaliers. You going to be shocked if Kyrie Irving ends up on the Los Angeles Lakers? No, you shouldn't be. You're going to be shocked over the next seven days if Russell Westbrook ends up in basketball Siberia.

No, you shouldn't be. It's a player's league. And for right now, Kyrie Irving has all of the leverage. 8 5 5 2 1 2 4 CBS.

That's 8 5 5 2 1 2 4 CBS. Ivan is calling for Miami. Go ahead, Ivan. Hey, RJ, man. Big fan of you, man. Who? I... JR, man. It's okay, Ivan. Big fan of you, man.

I just wanted to say big, big news today, man. Huge Miami Heat fan down here. And, you know, there's been times where this offense just like stale this year and bringing down Kyrie to 3 0 5, that'd be huge for the Heat. And, you know, in the East, if we get him, we're definitely right there at Boston and we can compete for that title. That's all I wanted to say. Okay, Ivan, thank you for calling for Miami.

I think they got more work to do than that. Just bringing in Kyrie Irving in exchange for who? Kyle Lowry and some draft picks? Like, the NBA trade market is so funky right now. Especially given what Minnesota and the Utah Jazz went through just to get Rudy Gobert. I mean, geez.

What a fleecing that was. How many first round picks is Rudy Gobert worth? Three?

You think so? Like, what are we doing here? And so there has to be some type of market reset. Maybe it's two first round picks for Kyrie and it's tricky. The Lakers are the team that has to go.

Yeah, we'll give them an extension. It makes the most sense. I'm going to explain this on the other side. I'm also going to allow you to hear from Sean Marks of the Brooklyn Nets and Jacques Vaughn. Why is Kyrie Irving to the Los Angeles Lakers the best bet and the best idea?

I'm going to give you some simple reasons. It's the JR Sport Brief show on CBS Sports Radio. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief on CBS Sports Radio.

You're listening to the JR Sport Brief on CBS Sports Radio. Thank you for taking my call. I'm a huge fan. I listen to you every night on the way home from work. JR, you are a great sports psychologist.

Thank you very much my brother from another mother. And I like you. Call in now at 855-212-4CBS. I have been waiting for this for a long time and it actually happened. No, nothing to do with Kyrie Irving's crazy ass. We'll get back to him. Hey Shep, tonight in the NBA and this is terrible.

This is terrible but I've been waiting for it. There were punches thrown in Minneapolis, downtown Minneapolis between the Orlando Magic and the Minnesota Timberwolves. We did see hands and fists exchanged between Doc River's son, my I'm sorry he has a name his name is Austin, and Mo Bamba. Shep did you see these two guys throwing hands with each other?

No because if a tree falls in the forest and no one's around to witness it does it actually exist? Oh my god. Because no one no one really knows I mean people know who they are but no one really cares about those guys. The superstars won't fight we need we need like lower end guys to fight and that's what we got.

It's fair. So here's here's the situation folks as of this minute the game is almost over the Orlando Magic currently lead the Minnesota Timberwolves 126 to 120 as Shep said who cares but the fact is about 30 minutes ago 30 40 minutes ago for whatever reason they were getting a John Austin Rivers the son of Doc who plays I'm sorry he plays for the uh the Minnesota Timberwolves not a lot he had zero points tonight before he got the boot. He was over by the Minnesota he was over by the Minnesota Timberwolves bench he's yapping and chatting and then both he and Mo Bamba who has to have I don't know about six seven inches on the guy they get to swinging real swinging none of that nonsense and garbage we got last night when Donovan Mitchell decided to you know shove Dylan Brooks to the ground after he got hit in the crotch. Mo Bamba and Austin Rivers were legitimately throwing hands and by the video that I looked at Austin Rivers looked like he might have connected with a right hand to the face of Mo Bamba the seven foot center for the Orlando Magic and so as you can tell or as you would suspect I would say both of these individuals were given the boot. Let's take a listen to that fight courtesy of Bally Sports.

Oh you have a fight on the other end. Rivers and Mo Bamba getting into it. I have no idea what happened but it is an all-out melee under the basket right now. Yeah, Austin Rivers got some good. I think Bamba came off the bench to throw punches at Rivers.

That's crazy. There will be a number of ejections here and Bamba is still hot. Bamba is still hot. I've never seen that before.

Torian Prince is hot too by the way. Jalen Soggs a takedown of Austin Rivers. That may cost Jalen an ejection there. It might, Jeff, but if two players are just playmakers. As a teammate you got to jump in there.

I'm just saying what the fallout may be. The following players have been issued technical fouls and ejected from the game. Austin Rivers, Torian Prince, McDaniel, Mo Bamba and Suggs. Five technical fouls and an offset. It will be one free throw. Hey Shep, was that an NBA game or was that WWE? You know what's the old line? You went to go see a fight and an NBA game broke out?

Oh my God. The fans at the end, the referee came through with what I would call the, what would I call the referee? Not the funk. I wouldn't call it the funk.

No, I wouldn't call it the stank. I don't know what I would call it yet, but the referee came through at the end with just letting everybody know, like I'm in charge here. Five technical fouls or five ejections and he did it in such dramatic form. The following players have been issued technical fouls and ejected from the game. Austin Rivers, Torian Prince, McDaniel, Mo Bamba and Suggs. Five technical fouls and an offset.

It will be one free throw for Orlando. I think even the Minnesota fans are rather happy with Suggs. Oh man, that's amazing. Hey Shep, have you ever been booed before? Oh yes, absolutely.

Where have you been booed at? So this is your story. When I was in elementary school, I switched classes. Wait, wait, wait, wait. Let's slow down here. I'm sorry to interrupt. That's all right. Not really. That's okay.

I just need to prepare myself. You're about to tell me how you were booed in elementary school? So I switched classes.

Go ahead. And apparently I guess people weren't liking my jokes at that particular time and didn't find myself funny and I was a little overweight and I had a stutter and people just, kids were mean. Kids were really mean. And I remember, I was in third grade and I walked into a new classroom for my first day, but they kind of knew about me. And I just remember I couldn't even take a step in and they just started saying, David Sheppard sucks.

David Sheppard sucks. And they started booing me. And then I remember, as a teacher, I remember her just being completely shell shocked. She didn't know what to do. So she called up my mom and said, yeah, I don't think it's a good idea that he's in this class.

He really needs to go back. But the reason I switched classes was because of my schedule because I played a lot of sports. So I couldn't make the first class. It was rough.

I remember it like it was yesterday. And the worst part about it was, and this is the cowardice thing, they turned on the lights and then started booing me. In other words, they ran all over the teacher. They had the lights off.

I take one step in, they turn on the lights, they all start booing me. Wow. Yeah.

True story. Well, that's unfortunate. Thank you. Thank you. Because I was about to sit here and tell everybody how great it is to be booed.

And that sounds terrible. Well, I mean, J.R., what you realize is when you're a little kid and you're nine years old and you get booed by 20 other of your peers, you realize that from that point forward, there's nothing that's going to quite hurt that much. Sure.

So it actually turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Right. I get it. Yeah.

A little bit different of a scenario. If I if I were a referee or I was an athlete or a performer, oh, man, I love the booze. I would love it. If you're booing me, that lets me know that I'm doing my job.

I need to do some more. That referee getting booed, I'm jealous. I really am. I wish I was that referee. Yeah. Boo me. Boo me some more.

I'd start doing dances and spins. It'd be amazing. But you make an excellent point. It's the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Orlando Magic. Who the hell sat down and watched that game?

People in Minnesota are supposed to be nice. And I hear booing or booing the refs. Booing the refs?

It's the J.R. Sport Reshow here on CBS Sports Radio. We're going to take a break, and when we come back, I'll give you more of an opportunity to boo Kyrie Irving on CBS Sports Radio. Don't boo me.
