And we've been here since 6 Eastern, 3 Pacific, talking about a lot. We talked about Mike Tomlin. Whether or not he should go or stay, or maybe part ways with the Steelers. James Harrison thinks he should be done, and Ben Roethlisberger thinks he should be done. We talked about Drake May.
He's currently the favorite to win NFL MVP. Man, we got more season to go. But I think Matthew Stafford well, he should certainly be in the lead. Thank you so much to Law Murray for joining us from the Athletic. He covers all things clippers.
We had a chance and an opportunity to talk about the future. of Chris Paul? The Clippers, and let's just say for the Clippers, the future is not bright. I think we all knew that. Giannis, he doesn't think the future of the Bucs is bright.
Apparently, Giannis is entertaining leaving once again. I mean, he's done this already, so the writing is on. The wall there. Deshaun Watson. Practice window has opened up.
Are we going to see Deshaun Watson on the football field this season for the Browns? I think it's a real possibility. Mike Evans looks like he's on his way back. Yeah, we discussed a lot.
Okay, if you missed any minute or second of the show, go ahead and hit Rewind on the free Odyssey app. And we're just seconds away, minutes away. For me, sharing with you a new top six list. Yeah, people want to get rid of Mike Tomlin. And I guess all he's guilty of is doing too much winning but not winning enough.
What a hard in our life it is. In the NFL. And so today, for different reasons, unrelated to Mike Tomlin, for the most part. I'm giving you a top six list. of the most Hated Coaches Ever.
not inspired by Mike Tomlin, but uh ultimately inspired by some guy named Lane Kiffin. Thank you, Lane, for the inspiration. We appreciate you.
Shoutouts to all of our listeners in Louisiana, everybody in Baton Rouge. I love y'all in the red baton, okay? Make sure you go ahead and stop on by that Charms for me. Please stop by Charms. There's a couple other places I like.
I'm not shouting him out because, well. Maybe I will shout them out and I tell them later: give me some food, I'm hungry. I need to go down to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Anyway, we got a lot to do. 888-710-4ISN is the number.
You can also find me. I exist on the internet. I exist online. I exist everywhere at JR Sport Brief. I'm a real human being, too.
You can find me outside, you can find me doing all of the things, okay. Uh most times you can just and find me working. People find me in the studio here on Peach Street Street. Anyway.
So much to do. Vacha, this is going to be a fun top six list. You ready for this one? Oh, it's. I want to call it juicy, but there's a lot in here.
I mean, it's a lot because y throughout the course of time and throughout the course of history, You got coaches, guys who are loved like God rest the soul. Of of of Lenny Wilkins. You know, I've never heard anybody say a bad word about Lenny Wilkins and I've I've heard the opposite. People have said that Lenny Wilkins, he never raised his voice.
Okay, this is one of the most winningest. At one point, he was the most winningest coach in basketball. never raised his voice. People out here, they love coaches. They revere them in some cases.
In others, You got dudes who are hated. It's just like any other human being. You got good ones, you got bad ones, you got crazy personalities, you got wild personalities, and And these guys, the the names I'm about to share with you. They're polarizing. There are a lot of people who don't like them for varying reasons.
And so. I'm not going to waste any time. This is as simple as it can be. We're taking a look at at sports all over the damn place, and pro and college and I'm just going to give you a top six list as I do every Wednesday. Today, the category.
The topic? Top six most hated coaches Ever. Let's go. Six five Four, three.
So One. It's time to get JR's latest top six list, only on the JR Sport Brief. It is the JR Sport Brief Show here with you coast to coast on the Infiniti Sports. network Today's top six list, top six most hated coaches. Ever.
Which coaches have rubbed? you the wrong way. Their fan bases the wrong way, the general public the wrong way, which coaches are there who have existed, who've been around. to be hated. It's the top six list, so we start here.
Number six. At number six, they hate you when you have success. They hate you when you're a blue blood. They hate you when you've been around forever. They hate you when you get all the top players, the top recruits, the top players, the championships.
At number six on the list, most hated coaches ever. Coach K, Mike Shaszzewski. Yeah, I got him at number six on the list. Five national championships. with Duke, okay?
He's the all-time NCAA wins leader. With 1200 victories and D1. People think about Duke and they go, hey, you got everybody.
Okay, I mean, people used to look at Christian Leightoner and Grant Hill, you would think that they'd be out there just beating up on five-year-olds. This is like, come on, these are. He's a college-age student, and so Duke always had that air, whether it's arrogance and we're better than you and we're smarter than you. They were just real preppy. And then every now and then Coach K would be a jerk.
Okay, we know he stepped away, finished up in 2022, and Shire took over. But here's a reason to not like him. after a rare loss for Duke. A student reporter, a young reporter asked, Coach K, about hey, you just lost. What are you going to do next week?
And listen to this. I could. I'm just curious as to what the next step forward here is for the team as you guys move into another week of basketball. Yeah, why don't we just evaluate this game? I'm not into.
what our next step forward is right now. We just finished the hard fog game. Yeah, I don't know if Quakeman You what what what's your major? Uh What's your major at Duke? What's your hardest client?
Okay.
So say you just had the toughest econ. test in the world. And when you walked out, somebody asked you, what's your next step? Uh you see what I mean? Is that you have some empathy and So You know, just give us time to evaluate.
This game, and then we'll figure out just like we. Always try to do. Damn, have some empathy. Why do you got to put the man on the spot? Try to teach the young man a lesson.
Do you have some empathy, man? You're getting paid a lot of money to teach that team. That kid is helping to pay your salary, Coach K. And sit around and do podcasts, okay? Coach K, number six on my list.
Most hated coaches ever. I got him at number six. It's the top six list. Who's next? Number five.
And number five. Oh my goodness. It's another legend. What a shock. Another guy who did nothing but win unless he was at the NFL level.
Another guy who won national championships. Another guy who snapped at a reporter would snap at the media. It doesn't matter if he was telling you that the press clippings were rat poison, trying to motivate his players. Whether he was snapping at Maria Taylor as she tried to figure out whether or not he was going with Jalen Hurts or Tuatonga Valoa. At number five on my list.
Top six most hated coaches ever, Nick Sabin. Is at number five. Oh. You forgot about the rat poison? I know you didn't.
Listen to the six-time national champ, Alabama in LSU, and tell you about people like me. I'm trying to get our players to listen to me instead of listening to you guys. You know, all that stuff she write about how good we are, and all that stuff they hear on ESPN, it's like poison. You know what I mean? It's like taking poison.
Like rat poison. All right, so I'm asking them: are you going to listen to me? Are you going to listen to these guys about how good you are? I just like your question right now. We get stopped three out of four times, like that's a bad thing.
We're not going to beat everybody 66 to 3. No.
Well, I mean, if you pick up, well, you can if you wanted to. But anyway, Nick Saban, it was all the success and sometimes the arrogance and the attitude. And he had to be the bad guy to the outside and then also be the bad guy protecting his guys from the outside.
So he's just a bad guy to everybody. And then all the winning. And the recruiting and the championships, that certainly doesn't help his reputation. Yeah, telling this to Maria Taylor when she asked about Tua and Hurts, yeah, this didn't help him either.
Alright coach, everyone had questions about who was going to start at quarterback when this game started. What answers did you have about your quarterbacks after watching both of them play tonight?
Well I still like both guys. I think both guys are good players. I think both guys can help our team.
Alright so why do you continually try to get me to say something that doesn't respect one of them? I'm not going to.
So quit asking. Damn. Yo, I have never heard. I have never heard a coach. Go at a sideline reporter that bad, okay.
Throw Greg Popovich and Craig Seg out the window as you know, they were just being jerks, or Popovich was intentionally being a jerk to him. Like Nick Saban meant every word that he said. And he realized he was a jerk and he apologized to Maria Taylor after. I'm not gonna answer, so quit asking. Damn.
Oh yeah, that's a jerk. Yeah, that's a hated guy. I got Nick Sabin at number five on my list. Top six most hated coaches ever. Lots of success there.
What's the next number? Number four. Oh, have another football coach? Wow. Not as successful as Nick Saban.
Well, who is up there, Brian? Oh, how about this? It's Urban Meyer at number four for different reasons. Hey, do Jacksonville Jaguar fans uh like this guy? Uh do they do they I don't know, Ohio State.
You cool with him? I guess, right? Gator fans, y'all y'all cool with him? You like him, I'm sure? Uh-huh.
There was always this excuse and the family reasons, and how he was feeling. I don't know, man. Come on. But the the cherry on top was was Jacksonville. When he got the job from the Khan family to run the Jags and run everything.
Even though he pretty much gave up in the other two spots. And they said, oh, you could run the whole thing. You had all that success in college. And he got to the NFL and the players hated him. It's like he treated them like they were back in college.
Hey, we're stretching, make sure you drink your water.
Okay, there was that incidence where he was beefing with his kicker. They said he kicked his kicker. His kicker said he kicked him. Why he was out there stretching. I can't believe we heard this.
And please believe it. It does get worse. I'll tell you about this. Listen to the former kicker, Josh Lambo. Tell you that Urban Maya kicked him.
You know, listen to this. I see Urban come up to me out of the corner of my eye. I was like, oh man, what now? He comes up to me and he says, Hey Dip. Another word.
Uh make your effing kicks. and then proceeds to kick me. Right in the lag, right in the hamstring. Also on the leg, on the hip. That.
kept me out for 12 games last year. Um And I couldn't believe it happened. I looked up at him, I said. Don't you ever kick me again. Come on, man.
We haven't heard anything enough from me to feel that this is refuted or it didn't happen. And then the cherry on top, I mean, this was the biggest thing. That he wasn't ready to coach in the NFL. His team, the Jaguars, went to Cincinnati, went to Ohio, his old stomping grounds. They lost the Monday night football game to the Bengals.
And instead of getting on a team playing. And flying home in defeat to be with his team, and I don't know, study, help them feel better, and be one with the team. Urban Meyer thought that he should stop by a bar that he owns, a restaurant. And then the team's on a team playing back. He's hanging out in Ohio.
And he's taking photos with a young blonde, a college-aged blonde, sitting on his lap. This goes viral. Keep in mind that he's married. And so not only have you left the team behind so you can stay home, You're hanging out with a woman who's younger than you. Just the optics and the distractions are just all ridiculous.
Urban Meyer had to stand in front of the media and he had to tell everybody, I'm sorry, and I'm so stupid, stupid, stupid. I just apologize to the team and staff for being a distraction. It's stupid. Um And so I explained everything that happened and owned it and, you know, just the stupid uh Should not have myself in that kind of position. Irving, did you fly back with the team or did you stay in the middle of the morning?
No, I stayed to see the grandkids and we all went to dinner that night at restaurant and then There's a big group next to our restaurant and They wanted me to come over and take pictures and I did. And they were trying to pull me out on a dance horse screwing around and I should have left. Yeah, I should have left. I should have left. Man, you should have been on the team playing back, you dumbass.
Yeah, go ask Jacksonville Jaguar fans. Go ask Shot Kahn. How do you feel about Urban Meyer? It's stupid. It's stupid.
Stupid. Yeah, he's number three. Oh, no, he's not. He's number four on my list. Top six most hated coaches ever.
Urban Meyer, number four.
Now he is number three. Number three. Oh, thank you for the inspiration. It's the man who inspired this list. He's the highest-ranked college football coach on this list.
Thank you so much. Number three. Lane Kipping. Man, he just ticks people off everywhere he goes. I mean, this dude at all levels, he's with the Raiders.
They're like, oh man, we like his dad. Let's bring him in. Al Davis was like, let's bring in Lane Kiffen. And then he was just like, this guy's full of crap. I can't stand him.
Al Davis hated his guts. God rest his soul.
Okay.
I mean, I can go down a list. Do I gotta tell you?
Well, we know about what happened this week. It's like he left old miss high and dry. The players basically called him A liar yesterday as he tried to move on to LSU. And then he spent the past couple of weeks just not saying nothing. And then he got in that reporter's face who said he's a hoe, can't turn a hoe into a housewife, they just want to bounce around.
I mean, yeah, listen just out of nowhere, listen to Lane Kiffin just complaining about things that he doesn't think are true. I think when it was falsely reported by John, who's now famous. Congratulations. That you can just write whatever you want. And I would do it too, I think, because you're never held accountable and you get to become famous.
Maybe you'll be right. John did it, so then I had to have a team meeting to say his article was wrong. Um Which would love to know these unnamed sources from John. But so yes, I had to deal had to have a team meeting because of that. They don't when there's other stuff and chat rooms and all that stuff, but When a reporter writes it, it changes the game by that.
Oh man, yeah, that's even before we even got to this week. I mean, if we go back even further. Do we gotta ask people at Tennessee how they feel about him? The guys at Tennessee, he's telling everybody he's not leaving after they had a crappy. He's like, I'm not leaving, I'm not leaving, I'm not leaving.
And then he goes to USC. And then he got the the nerve after he's getting booed. They had a protest at the school and people were pissed at him. And this is what he said about the time he had to go back to Tennessee. Coach Kiffen, you came out to a lot of booze.
What sort of gives you comfort and calm when you come out to that kind of reception? Matt Carell. I got one that one. Yeah.
I don't hear say popcorn. I got mine ready. It doesn't feel like it, no. But you like when they don't like you, don't you? It is what it is, man.
These guys are passionate, great fans, electric crowd. This is college football, man. Yeah, he's wild, man. And USC fired him at the airport. This guy, who likes Lane Kiffin?
Nobody. Does his family like him? I'm not so sure. I have no idea. I know every school and every place he left they cannot stand.
The man, Lane Kiffin. Number three on my list. Top six. Most hated coaches ever. Evlain Kiffin is three.
Who the heck could be next? Number two. Oh, I know. A guy who will Or choke a player, right? Or throw a chair at a player, or threaten a player, or I don't know, get mad at the meet.
Oh, it's Bobby Knight. God rest his soul.
Bobby Knight, number two on the list, most hated coaches ever.
Now, there are a lot of people, Isaiah Thomas, who'd be like, man, I love that guy. There are a lot of people who hated his damn guts. And I think we all know this. Bobby Knight knew it. I think he had a request.
I think we all know. for all of his critics despite his three national championships uh This is what he had to say to his critics. You might have heard this, one of the most famous sports quotes of all time. But my time On earth is gone, and my activities here are past. I want they bury me upside down and my critics can kiss my.
I gotta give him credit, that's one of the most creative poems I've ever heard in my life. And it doesn't stop there. That's one of the most famous things he ever said. He had a slew of them. Does this sound like a happy fellow?
There's a reason why people hated his guts. Listen to this. Wait a minute, there's something forming here. It says. What a question.
I'm really disappointed in the progress that we've made. God F ⁇ this show. Take this show and forget forget F If it amazes you, then you don't know anything about basketball. You're you're uh uh illuminating your uh relative lack of knowledge of the game with a statement like that. Final question.
Uh Eric, I'll tell him when it's a goddamn final question. Just sit there and and when I get tired then they can stick those pencils up there. Oh, he had an affinity for shoving things where the sun doesn't shine. Look, if there was anybody that did not like Bobby Knight, It was a lot of folks in the media. And anybody who maybe got threatened with a belt or got choked or had a chair thrown at them.
Okay.
Yeah, I got Bobby Knight at number two on my list. Most hated coaches ever. If Bobby Knight is at number two, We're gonna take a break. And when we come back on the other side, I'm going to give you number one. I'm going to tell you about the most hated coach ever.
Do that on the other side of the brake. It's the JR Sport Reef Show, coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. Avoiding your unfinished home projects because you're not sure where to start? 888-710-4ISN. It's 888-710-4ISN. Hey, I am giving you a top six list. Minutes away, seconds away from sharing with you who I have at number one as I'm giving you a top six list of the most hated coaches. Ever Fans hate you, the media hate you, maybe your players hate you, you're a pain in the ass, you win too much, you're arrogant, you're a jerk.
You're screwing your fans and teams over. And number six, I gave you Coach K. We all know about the reputation of Duke. Bunch of goody two-shoes. Always winning, squeaky clean, always getting the calls.
Just winning and winning and winning and winning and winning. And then sometimes every now and then Coach K could be a jerk. And number five I gave you Nick Sabin. Made sure his players and everybody knew the media was the enemy. Media's feeding you rat poison.
Don't listen to him And even snapped at a member of the media. Maria Taylor, she's just doing a job. Hey, what's up with two in jail and hurts? Quit asking. Damn.
Tell me how you really feel, coach. And number four, I think a lot of people know that uh Well, he's hated. I think Jacksonville Jaguar fans, if there's a word past hate, they may have it for him. It's Urban Meyer.
Okay, he knows how to leave a situation, okay?
Well in Jacksonville, he'd he'd rather hang out with blondes than go to work, so he He knows how to get kicked out of a job. And number three, most hated coaches ever. Thank you so much, Lane Kiffen. He's had a busy week. And every time his time comes to an end with a A school?
Or a football team. It doesn't matter if it's the NFL with the Raiders or. or Tennessee or USC Now, old miss, he knows how to leave and exit with a bang. Can't wait to see how things work out with LSU. Got Lane Kippin.
Number three here on the list. And number two. Most hated coaches ever. You gotta have Bobby Knight on the list, right? You can't how you gonna choke the players?
How are you going to throw things and threaten to beat them with belts and curse at everybody, the media? How are you going to do all of that and not be hated? One of the best college basketball coaches of all time, three national championships. Bobby Knight is number two on the list. Yeah, a lot of accomplishments, but.
Volatile. might be the words extremely volatile. Bobby Knight is number two. And so if we're talking about the most hated coaches ever. How?
How could we not? Look at this coach at what number? Number one. the top six most hated coach ever.
Well, he's adding to his legacy of being hated at North Carolina, his name. is Bill Bela check. Ah. You thought the book was done, right? You thought the book was finished when he wrapped it up with the Patriots.
It's like, oh yeah, well almost twenty years of him and Brady and It's six Super Bowl wins. Maybe he got eight. Total, if you think about his time with the New York Giants. 333 career wins. He wanted to climb the list and beat number one, Pat Schuler.
It's like, oh, and then we know how things ended with Tom Brady. He was so full of himself, he wanted to trade Tom Brady, and then. Robert Kraft is like, no, you idiot, we can't do that. And Tom Brady's like, screw this, I'm leaving. And then Bill Belichick is like, man, I'm cooked.
And eventually he got fired.
Okay? He can say whatever he wants, he got fired. But then, throughout the course of time, and this doesn't even count all the girlfriend stuff with North Carolina and still being a pain in the ass in college the same way he was in the pros, no personality. We had one year of personality with Bill Belichick while he was out of work. But he has built enough pain in the ass in this over the years.
where people just can't stand him. The media covering him didn't like him and Fans across the NFL were just like, this guy's a pain in the ass, especially if you got to think about things like. Like Spygate, remember Spygate? Where they said that a Patriots uh video guy was Recording the New York Jets sideline. That's a no-no.
You're not supposed to do that. And while all of this was being investigated, Bill Belichick, of course, he didn't want to talk about it. But then, after all the allegations, Bill Belichick said, Fon, just you telling me about a stupid video camera. Listen to this. You said you always try and err on the side of caution and try and stay on that side of the rules, but with the videotaping, it was clear that.
you were pushing the envelope on that. Is that something that changed that or is that? I mean, look, that's a whole nother discussion, but I'm just. The guy's giving signals out in front of 80,000 people.
Okay.
So we filmed them, taking signals out in front of 80,000 people, like there were a lot of other teams doing at that time, too.
Okay, but forget about that. If we were wrong, then we've been disciplined for that. That's clearly not trying to do everything you can to stay on the side of this guy. That's in front of 80,000 people. 80,000 people saw it.
Everybody sideline saw it. Everybody sees our guy in front of 80,000 people. I mean, there he is.
So it was wrong. We were disciplined for it. That's it. We never did it again. We're never going to do it again.
And anything else that's closed, we're not going to do either.
So, is that a change? I'm talking about what you said a few minutes ago, which is that we always try and stand. We always do, we always have. But, I mean, anything that's even remotely close, we're on the side of caution. Yeah, well, yeah, he talks about being punished.
He personally got fined half a million dollars. The Patriots got popped for a quarter million dollars. And they even lost first-round pick in the 2008 NFL draft because 80,000 people wasn't enough for him to steal signs. That might be the most that you've ever heard Bill Belichick say in a single sentence, okay? Especially in regards to football.
He was actually ticked off. And so yeah, there's this spygate, but then he says he didn't know anything about the flake gate. Remember when Tom Brady was telling the assistant guys who handle the footballs, hey, take some air out of them suckers so I can hold it better? Bill Belichick is like, I'm sick of this too, leave me alone. You said Tom will start when he's eligible.
Can you pick an occasion when you move to five starter in July? Yeah, I don't know. Because what happens if Jimmy plays better? Look, I told you what's going to happen.
So there's no There's this. Oh Jesus Christ. Didn't matter if it was about deflated balls or sitting down Tom Brady. Jesus Christ. That's the Bill Belichick I know, the jerk.
Never wanted to say anything. And people hated his guts with good reason. Did he have to be a jerk the whole way? He didn't have to be that much of a jerk, huh? Yeah, and most of the time he didn't want to say anything.
Like all these times. After a loss, forget it. He's just not going to answer any question you ask him. Bill, what happened on that play in the third quarter? Just gotta get back to work.
We gotta improve in every phase of the game. Bill, what happened with that timeout? We did improve and play and coach better next week. It's the same answer. We've got a lot of work to do.
Plenty of things we need to work on. Really isn't too much to say. We just got to get back to the drawing board. No, I made the. No.
Look, we're coaching the team. I'm coaching this team. It's good to win. You know, we've got a long way to go. It's a great job by our players.
There's no quarterback I'd rather have than Tom Brady. You know, we'll face another challenge next week. Yeah, I don't know. I'll leave that to the U expert. We'll get on to Miami next week.
You know, good job all the way across the board. San Diego next week. You know, they did a good job offensively.
Now we're moving on to Cincinnati. You know, it was a good complimentary game. Minnesota's a good football team. You want to talk about the game? I'm going to get it on post-game analysis here.
You really I've had enough of that. Oh my god, it sounds like something that you would uh just play on loop. For, I don't know, somebody you're trying to get sensitive information out of. Like you strap them to a table in a room and you just play that for 24 hours. Uh Whoever's on that table, they're going to sing like a canary if they got to listen to that.
That. That man is punishment. He didn't want to talk about Spygate, didn't want to talk about the flake gate, didn't want to talk about Tom Brady, didn't want to talk about the loss, doesn't want to talk about his girlfriend unless it's to his benefit. Bill Belichick is number one on the list. You want to talk about the most hated coach ever?
Yeah, Bill Belichick is numero Uno. And number six I gave you Coach K. And number five, I gave you Nick Sabin. And number four, I gave you Urban Meyer. And number three, I gave you Lane Kiffen.
And number two, I gave you Bobby Knight. And number one, I gave you Bill Belichick. This is a top six list of the most hated coaches ever. The phone lines are open. I could think of more.
There's a guy named Bobby that comes to mind. I'll let you fill in some of the blanks, but here's a number: 888-710-4ISN. That's 888-710-4ISN. Look, there are more than six hated coaches. All right, there's tons of coaches that have been a pain in the ass.
There's tons of coaches that you can't stand. There's tons of coaches. I mean, look, if I asked Lattrell Spreewell He might say I hate P. J. Carlissimo.
He tried to choke the guy. Who are some other coaches that have been hated throughout the Course of history. Is more than six. 888-710-4ISN is the number. That's 888-710-4ISN.
I'm going to get to your calls on the other side of the break. Also, speaking of hate. There's something that Michael Jordan hates, and how do we know? We heard him talk about it on NBC last night. We'll get into that.
I'm going to get to your calls. We got so much to do, but right now it's time to get to a news flash. Here he is, Rich Ackerman. Avoiding your unfinished home projects because you're not sure where to start? Thumbtack knows homes, so you don't have to.

com. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief. It is the JR Sport Brief Show here with you, coast to coast. On the Infiniti Sports Network. Hey, I just gave you a new not the music.
I love the music. I just gave you a new top six list. Talked about the most hated coaches. Ever Thank you, Lane Kiffin, for the inspiration. And number six, I gave you Coach K.
All that went, and they'll hate you. And number five, I gave you Nick Sabin. All that win, and they'll hate you. And you're a jerk sometimes. And number four, I gave you Urban Meyer.
No, he's proven to be a jerk over the years. Go ask the fans of the Jacksonville Jaguars. And number three, Lane Kiffin. Ask the folks at Tennessee, USC, the Raiders, Olemas, and soon to be LSU. And number two, I gave you Bobby Knight.
He said his critics can kiss his ass. He wants to be buried. With his ass up. Kiss his ass, kiss the dirt. And the number one most hated, Bill Belichick.
Well, they hate Bill Belichick.
Well, I guess maybe he's feeling some of the pain now. Hey, the phone lines are open, okay? eight eight eight seven ten four I S N. That's 888-710-4ISN. Man, we've had plenty of coaches over the years that people just cannot stand.
They win too much, they lie too much, they cheat too much. Who comes to your mind? Like, who's a coach that people cannot stand? He grinds. Your gears Eight at eight seven ten four ISN That's 888-710-4ISN.
Hey, let's go ahead and get the phone lines up. Let's go to Michigan. And let's talk to Skip. It's Skip, you're on the JR Sport Brief show. What's on your mind?
Hey, what's going on, JR? First of all, thank you for the show. It makes a great drive. And uh good conversation. I Just want to disagree with you on one area, a little bit of recency bias there is what I would I would claim.
You got to put Billy Martin. Billy who hated George George Steinbrother hated him? Oh my good, everybody hated him. The media, the players, his former players. I mean, he was a winner, but he was a piece of work.
What do you think? What's your view on that one? Yeah, I think, but ultimately, and I understand what you're saying about recency bias, but on a top six list as an overall, I don't I I think the guys that I named And I don't know, maybe maybe there's there's too much sympathy. For Billy Martin, as many times as George Steinbrand have fired him and hired him and brought it back, it was more of a comedy show. I mean, if we go ahead and ask Reggie right now, I'm pretty sure Reggie Jackson might want to, you know, unfortunately bring the man back to life and beat him back down.
I think the biggest guy who hated him, and it was George Steinbrand, it was his fault. But yeah, I mean, you know, I'm, hey, you're the expert, but he fought with everybody. He fought with. With so many players, with so many other coaches, challenge people to bar fights. Had a personal life that oh, give me a break.
No, good coach. I mean, similar in many ways to talk about Bobby Knight. But oh, what a piece of work. But hey. Everybody's got their view.
Appreciate your show. Ain't no lie about that. Thank you so much, Skip, for calling from Michigan. Appreciate you. Yeah.
I I think a lot of the nonsense Well, I mean, we know about George Steinbrenner. I mean they banned George Steinbrenner temporarily for trying to dig up dirt. on Dave Winfield. How do you do how could you imagine? Like think about that today.
Imagine if Steve Ballmer And I know he's in his own crap. He's trying to defend himself for paying Kawhi Leonard under the table. Could you imagine if Steve Ballmer said, No, no, no, I don't even. Who the hell owns the Benson family? They still own the Pentecost.
Pelicans. Imagine if. The wife said, You know what? I'm sick and tired of Zion Williamson. I'm sick and tired of him.
I'm gonna hire a private investigator. to catch him You know, doing nasty things outside, okay, and not eating hamburgers at 3 a.m. But I'm going to hire a PI to follow Zion around. And I'm going to pay them $5 million just so I can void his contract. I'm going to catch Zion voiding the morality clause in his contract.
This is what. This is what George Steinbrenner was doing to his own guy. Like damn You can't do that out there.
So, George Steinbrenner was a nut. God bless him. He tried to spend a lot of money on the Yankees.
Now, his son is being a cheapskate. But I mean damn Yeah, Billy Martin, a lot of that overshadowed, I think, by the fact that his boss and George Steinbrenner was just. completely Nuts He was nuts out here. Can't make this stuff up. 888-710-4ISN.
That's 888-710. Four I S N We're talking about the most hated coaches. Ever anywhere. Greg is calling from Kansas. You on the J.R.
Sport B show. What's up, Greg? Hey Dar, how you doing? I'm amazing. How are you?
I'm good. I'm glad this came on because I've hated this guy for a long time. And it's Sean Payton. Yeah.
Boundigate. Uh I mean, I think, in my opinion, he should have been suspended lifetime. And they ended the careers, Bandigate ended the careers of Kurt Warner. In Brett Farve. Granted, they were toward the end, but I and then the way he treated Russell Wilson publicly.
When he was in Denver, I mean Sean Payton is trash. In my book. I know how you feel about it, but I'll I'll get off and listen. Oh, yeah, I don't disagree with you, Greg. Yeah, he's known to throw a couple of people under the bus.
You want to talk about Russell Wilson? And look, I'm not a fan of Russell in the public sphere of things in a lot of cases. I think he can come across as very Hollywood and phony. How he is personally, I have no idea. I've had good interactions with him.
But I'll tell you this, man. I knew everything I needed to know about Sean Payton. When he left the television job at Fox after the Saints, And then he went to coach the Broncos. And now he's killing. Nathaniel Hackett.
Like the coaches are supposed to be a brotherhood. We're supposed to get along. And he's over here saying that, oh, the guy who he was here before me did the worst job ever, didn't know what the hell he was doing. And then he had to apologize the next week 'cause he was being a jerk. Come on.
Yeah, Sean Payton is just, he's an ass. He's proven himself to be one. eight eight eight seven cent four I SN. That's 888-710-4ISN. Bill is calling from Pennsylvania.
You're on the JR Sport Reef show. What's up, Bill? Hello. Mr. JR, I've listened to you a few times and Lot of it's just why those guys don't get along with the news media is it's negativity.
You know, uh my dad taught me that if you don't have anything good to say, Why say anything at all?
So why not? Build em up. Say, well, other than the outhouse come of the game. This looked good. This looked good.
and get them talking about the good stuff. And as far as their private lives go, It's their private life. Who cares what Urban Meyer was doing in Ohio? If the owner didn't say anything to them, That was just, you know, somebody with a camera that got it and figured they'd get famous. That is absolutely ridiculous, Bill.
I mean. If you are the coach of a professional football team. what you do in your private life. can have a major effect. On your job, which is a very public job.
They are married and tied together. I can certainly understand what you do in your private life is your private life. But if you're the head coach of a football team, And you're not hanging out and you're cheating on your wife or hanging out with a younger woman who is not your wife after your team just left and you're not on the plane with your team to go back because you just want to hang out with somebody, That's one of the reasons that he got fired.
Okay, and it was very public. Like what you do and what you say with every element of your life can affect you professionally. And I don't care, you don't have to be. uh a a professional athlete If you having a bad day in your house before you go to work, And your spouse shows up knocking on the door, going, we need to finish this argument.
Now you use some common sense. You tell me, is that going to have an effect on what you do professionally? Your bosses are not going to look at you and go, why is your personal stuff coming to our door?
Now that's now that's That doesn't make a damn bit of sense. Yes, Shad Khan really loved his head coach. You know, hanging out with a woman, not his wife, after the team just lost. Yeah, I'm pretty sure he loved that. Yeah, yeah.
Oh, yeah, did you give him a raise? Oh yeah, no, that's uh one of the reasons that he got fired.
Okay.
It's the JR Sport Brief Show here with you coast to coast on the Infiniti Sports Network. Phone lines are open. That's 888-710-4ISN. That's 888-710-4ISN. And I'm giving you a top six list.
The top six list of the most hated Coaches. Ever. Coach can six. Nick Saban at five. Urban Monitor at four.
Lane Kiffin at three. Barbie Knight at two. Bill Belichick at one. I'm going to get some more of your calls on the other side of the break. Of course, at the end of the show, we'll talk about a few things that took place this day in sports history.
I told you Michael Jordan. I could tell you something people hate about him. It might be that new stupid segment that he has on NBC. We're going to go ahead and get into that. We'll talk about Giannis potentially moving on from, well, the Milwaukee Bucks.
Chris Paul, we know his time is done with the Clippers. We got so much more to do, so much more to get into. You're locked in. It's the JR Sport Brief Show, Coast to Coast, the Infinity Sports Network. Yeah.
