Hey, we talked about the home run derby. I guess Cal Raleigh is the favorite. The guy has hit thirty eight home runs so far this season. for the Seattle Mariners. We talked about Jacob Miserowski, being added to the All-Star game for tomorrow as a replacement.
Despite the fact that That the man has only made Five starts. He just got to the big leagues. He's already an All-Star. Is it fair? No, it's not fair.
Life isn't fair. We talked about Yannick Sinner winning Wimbledon. We talked about Quinshawn Judkins and his arrest. alleged domestic violence. Even something that he didn't dispute that took place.
Okay? And we got more to get into. Teddy Bridgewater in trouble as well? And not a domestic violence situation, I'll tell you that much. And then we had plenty also over the weekend, besides Yannick Sinner winning.
We had Cooper flags shutting it down, having a good showing at Summer League. 31 points in his second appearance. LeBron James. I guess he's a He shut down his media appearances, didn't want to talk at NBA Summer League. And then how about this?
SEC MEDIA DAYS The SEC is talking, the Commissioner's talking, the coaches are talking, the players are talking over the next several days. It's already underway also here in Atlanta, Georgia. And so we're going to be joined by Brandon Marcello. Brandon will be here with us. in about twenty minutes.
to talk some college football. If you want to talk to me, you can do that too. eight eight eight seven ten four I S N is the number. That's eight eight eight seven ten four I S N. Man A little surprising.
Right before we went to break, I I'm I'm talking about Quin Sean Judkins and his arrest for domestic violence, alleged domestic violence. You know, pardon me for assuming that everyone understands that it's alleged. I think that would be understood. But I was over here judging. And I had a call who goes, Oh, you're talking like it's true and true and true.
I'm using common sense, I'm not the judge. You know, I would think people would be more offended about alleged domestic violence as opposed to, oh, well, let's defend him. The guy was let out of court, and he might be, he might be innocent. But if I have to judge on what we've seen so far, His lawyer hasn't said anything about he ain't he ain't do it. He had a camera in his face and a microphone in his face.
He didn't say he didn't do it. I'm sorry, but if I'm just getting a job and I'm getting ready to make some money and it's a big deal, and somebody is saying that I beat up a woman. You know what I'm saying? If I didn't do it, I didn't do it. That's what the hell I'm saying.
Okay, the lawyer is lawyering. The lawyer says, Well, the alleged incident Okay, even though the police affidavit says that there was bruising. I don't know, maybe she beat herself up. It happens. I'm not joking.
People people lie and harm themselves and say somebody else did it. If This man didn't do it. If I'm him, if I'm the attorney, I'm saying my guy didn't do it. They're not saying any of that. What has been said is She was still with him for a couple of days after the incident.
That's what was said.
Well, I think anyone who might be familiar with any uh domestic violence issue knows that uh people don't necessarily just uh you know pick up the phone the minute things happen. It can be quite a tr a traumatizing uh situation.
So, look. If he's not a jackass, quinchaun Jutkins, I'll be the first person to say Sorry. But he got a whole lot of crap that he needs to clean up, even having the situation be alleged. and the response that we've seen so far. It's kinda worrying and troublesome.
We'll see what happens. Speaking of troublesome, I don't know what's going on in South Florida. This is a, thank God, much different of an issue. Pretty sad type of an issue. We all know about Teddy.
Bridgewater.
Okay, used to play for Louisville. Went into the NFL. Played for the Minnesota Vikings. got hurt. looked like he was gonna be good before he got hurt.
And then afterwards he pretty much has been a a a journeyman. Playing every now and then for the Saints, the Pac the Panthers being a a back up. And then he He called it a wrap. Teddy Bridgwater decided to take about a year off from football. Didn't play.
and got into coaching. He coached his high school team, down in Florida to a championship.
Okay? He actually went back and played For the Detroit Lions last year, and made it very clear, Yeah, I'm a high school coach now. But I'm going to go back and play in the NFL. They only played in like one game for the Lions, I think, in a postseason. And then he said, I'm goin' right back.
to coach my kids.
Well, apparently he's run into a little bit of a roadblock. in this process. I want you to take a listen to what happened at Teddy Bridgwater. This is also South Florida WPLG 10. We are talking about Teddy Bridgewater, a former NFL star and current head coach of the Miami Northwestern football team, who actually led the team to the state title just last year.
Now, Sports Illustrated is reporting the school has suspended Bridgewater.
Now, this is video just after Bridgewater led the team to victory in that championship game. SI saying Bridgewater is being investigated by the Florida High School Athletic Association for allegedly providing unallowed benefits to players.
Now, in an older online post, Bridgewater wrote that he spent $14,000 on a preseason camp. The state also looking into if Bridgewater allowed an ineligible player to take the field. Bridgewater posting Sunday night that this is not an investigation and he's actually no longer employed. Bridgewater joined the Northwestern program last year, just after his retirement from the NFL. Yeah, and Teddy Bridgewater pretty much said, Listen, I'm not employed.
If I have to hand out water or yell from the stands, then I'll go ahead and do that.
Now this isn't the first time that we've heard of uh of coaches or anybody closely associated with the program. High school or college, say, hey, let me dip into my own wallet. And let me see how I can help.
Okay? Happens all the time. People have been doing this for years, but you're not supposed to. And this is the part that sucks. You know, if a kid needs an Uber ride home.
Okay, is it You know, can Teddy Bridgewater probably pay for more Uber rods than most? Uh, yeah. If he wants to feed his kids, is it the worst thing in the world? Um, um, no. Like, in the world of sports.
We have haves and we have nots. In the game of life, we have haves and we have have-nots. And everybody wants to keep things on an even kinda level. I get and understand that. completely.
But can we move out of a space where we have to punish dudes for you know, giving guys Uber rides and and I get it, it can take things to another level.
Well, you can come play for this school, or you can move into this district, and you can play football over here because I'm going to get you. A car? Like everything should have limits, it should have parameters. But I I I think we get into the minutia of Well Can't buy sandwiches, can't take them out to eat, can't give Uber rides because it can now balloon into other teams or other schools having a competitive advantage. I'd rather the guys be able to get home safe and eat.
How about that? Like, can we think about that? Can we allow them to do that at a minimum? I mean, can we put stock prices here? Like Teddy Bridgewater was ripped to shreds a couple of months ago.
When he admitted that he would pay for these things, And then he suggested that: hey, why don't we get donations in? Maybe he already saw the writing. was on the wall. I I got no problem. Like, why do we have to wait for the worst of the worst to happen before people want to go ahead and make adjustments?
I remember pretty clearly because I was right there in the room, in the arena, When Shabazz Napier pretty much told everybody in college, yeah, there's some days that I go to bed hungry. What? This guy's in the final four. Playing for UConn. And he is going to bed.
Hungry? Like you gotta be kidding me. Like the but we couldn't pay the college athletes because, you know, we we'd have uh impermissible benefits here. And if you get a guy a sandwich, then God only knows what you're getting him after that. You might be giving him a Rolls-Royce to, you know, come play.
Yeah, like, can we make A little bit of sense. Like the world already isn't fair.
Okay, we already got schools and school districts and organizations that have a leg up. They already got schools that that already you know have more resources than others. I I don't think getting a guy's transportation and food is the worst thing. I didn't see Teddy Bridgwater get somebody a Maserati, you know, so This is just the uh Just the silly world that that we live in. Bacha, when you saw this story, what was your first thoughts?
I was like, why are they suspending him? It reminded me of the Joe Sai WNBA issue where he chartered them. private flights. And that was the first of its kind to happen. And he got fined a large sum by the WNBA.
because it provided a competitive unbalance, yet this should be the basic minimum for these people. And for these kids to not have rides and to not have proper. rehabilitation. It's dumb. In a way where you have to look internally and fix your issues as either a high school program or a league rather than suspend someone for trying to help.
Yeah, and it goes and it it it becomes politics and it becomes bureaucratic. Because everybody has to uh justify their salary. And when I say everybody, the people investigating and the the people at the school district level and the city level and the state level. Everybody has to go, Well, what's going on over there? Or is this something that I could get in on?
Well, I need to collect my, I need to justify my salary. I need to justify the money that taxpayers are getting. I need to investigate this. Instead of fixing things like what you said, can we get the guy something to eat? And can we get him a ride home?
Can we at minimum just go ahead? And do that. Yeah, we li we we live in a crooked ass world, dear. I hope Teddy Bridge would have made it just go back to the NFL. And then hopefully he can get back to his students.
I mean, we've heard uh We've heard worst. worse things. happening at high school campuses then. The head coach making sure his guys have room, excuse me, rides and food. We can do better than that.
888-710-4ISN. That's 888-710-4ISN. BERT You see it from Baltimore. You own the JR Sport Breeze. What's up, Bert?
How are you doing, sir? Student?
Okay. You all right, Bert. I don't need you passing out on the radar. You okay? No, no, I'm all right.
I'm good. Thank you. I got a quick that reminds me of something that happened. I'm a big Maryland fan and Bob Wade, if you recall, gave a let somebody have arrived, and we got the death penalty. It was like it was crazy, man.
It's like that kind of stuff still goes on. Yeah, but it's different when it's in college versus high school, you know?
Okay, I don't think uh I I tend to agree with you, but that's not why I called, but Um Calling because I had a question for you and a comment. And I'll the question is, I'm a big Ravens fan, obviously, and I'm wondering what Do we I don't see any weaknesses, and sometimes I'd like to see if somebody outside looking in. Uh let's see what they think.
Well, the weakness is we're going to talk about this next hour. The weakness is the quarterback and whether or not he could actually have a solid stretch of games in the postseason. That's it.
Well, I would hazard a guess that outside of maybe a you know, Mahomes and a couple other ones. And there's a lot of teams that wonder if that would happen.
Well, yeah, there's a lot of teams that wonder if that can happen, but a lot of teams don't employ a two-time MVP whose expectation. is to go out there and win a Super Bowl.
So I think that's what might separate That might separate Lamar Jackson from other quarterbacks. And a matter of fact, next hour, ESPN released a list. Of top 10 QBs, and they ended up polling multiple executives. And let's just say Lamar Jackson wasn't as high as people might expect him to be. And that very well might be one of the reasons his playoffs.
Yeah. I read that article, so I saw that. One more question for you. Um New Orleans had two very good years, made the playoffs and after the middle of last year, Beem dropped off. Like like a a yeah, I mean More like a third.
worst even in a Out. I think it all boils down to pitching. Yes. Do you have any? Yeah.
When you got guys who are hurt, injured, and ERAs are flying in at around 4 and 5. Yeah, having crap starting pitching or guys that are hurt. It can certainly bleed into the bullpen. Yeah, th that th I think you can pretty much chalk everything up to that.
So my question is, how bad does this have to get before like we fired the coach How bad does it have to be for the GM goes?
Well, I don't think I I don't I don't know. I mean, you gotta get through the rest of the season. I mean the way that things have been adjusted now in Major League Baseball Where we've now had the trade deadline pushed back. There's so many teams that think that they're alive and go on. I don't think the O's are going to wake up and just fire their GM in the middle of the season based off of what you said.
They've had success over the past couple of seasons. I don't think here we are in the middle of the year, they're just going to go ahead and flip the switch. Stay tuned, Bert. I still think I don't expect. I don't expect it.
I sure as hell don't expect them to win the AL East if they can get the pitching back on track. I wouldn't be surprised if they went on a little bit of a run, maybe for a wild card.
So stay tuned. They're not that far away from hitting 500, okay? All right. Thank you, sir. Thank you, Bert, for calling from Baltimore.
The way he was coughing at the beginning, I didn't know if he'd make it through the call. Thank you, Bert. It's the JR Sport Re Show here with you, Coach to Coast on the Infinity Sports Network. We're going to take a break. When we come back on the other side, we're going to talk some college football.
Brandon Marcelo is going to join us from CBS. You're locked into the JR Sport Re Show, the Infinity Sports Network. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief. It is the JR Sport Brief Show here with you coast to coast on the Infiniti Sports Network. Here in Atlanta things have been very busy.
Beyoncé's in town, Major League Baseball, All-Star Game, and Home Run Derby, WWE. And the SEC has already taken time to Roll out. It's media days.
Okay? We're hearing from Commissioner Greg Sankey. Hearing from coaches and players, and of course the playoff is up and What's next? What we can expect. Of course, there's so many stories.
We add the the It's Big 12 last week to talk about everything going on in college football. What we can expect now, tomorrow, a month from now, a couple of years. And joining us right now is Brandon Marcelo, covers all things college football, national college football reporter for CBS. Brandon, how are you, man? Doing very well.
How are you? Very well. Thank you for the time. Maybe they're not doing well. We heard last week all the conversations from your mark about the potential college football playoff, and now we've heard from the SEC.
They're the big boys, but apparently they don't even agree on what a a college football playoff might look like. What's the latest on that? Yes, the latest is that everybody's still at a standstill. And for that matter, it really looks like it's the big 10 against everybody else. And we're just trying to see if there's going to be some type of.
compromise reach. The SEC and Big Ten hold voting control over what this future format is going to look like. And right now, the Big Ten wants their format to be with four automatic qualifiers for itself and for the SEC. with the Big 12 and ACC getting two a piece.
Meanwhile, the SEC is more open to having more at-large berths in a future format, and the ACC and Big 12 want a 5 plus 11 format, which is 11 at large teams. And then you saw today, Greg Sankey, the SEC commissioner, say that, listen, we could stay at 12 even. And keep it the way it is right now. But the one that's really pushing this idea of doing these multiple automatic qualifiers is the big 10. And for a couple of months, the Big Ten's ADs were on board.
with the SEC's ADs to get this pushed across the finish line. But down in the SEC spring meetings back in May and June, There was a change in tenor in the SEC and now all of a sudden it's it's put a A big kind of spike in the road here, and it slowed everything down. Um your guess is as good as anybody's is what resolution they're going to reach, but here's all we do know. They have to make a decision before December 1st because that's when this whole new contract goes into effect for the next six years for the college football playoff. ESPN, the broadcast partners, are waiting to hear what the format looks like, and are we going to owe you more money for having more games?
Brandon Marcello is joining us from CBS Sports. What do you think the likeliest outcome is? Or what do you think is the best situation? We saw the adjustment. Already made when it comes down to the playoff seating.
But what do you think would be the fairest given we have the big four, quote unquote, in everybody else? I think that because of the SEC's stance of their wanting more at-large spots, that some type of format, if it goes to 16. needs to be close to that five plus eleven where Only the five highest-ranked conference champions are assured a spot, but they're not necessarily assured a first-round buy. And that format is pretty much what we're going to see this upcoming year, but just with 12 teams. But if you're going to expand to 16 and you have more at-large spots, It gives you some more opportunities for scheduling, also allows some maybe some more leeway there.
Because the big argument that the Big Ten is really having right now, as well, is that they want the SEC to move to nine conference games. The SEC plays eight right now. They want them to move to nine. They want uniform scheduling among all these conferences, but it's not that way right now. And the SEC's argument is we want to stay with eight really because we have the toughest conference.
We have the toughest schedule anyway.
So why do we need to add on to that with another? Another game.
So again, You're in this position where all these commissioners are in their own silos, their own bunkers, battling for themselves more or less than. what they should do for college football. And at some point, they're going to come together and reach a resolution. But the longer this goes on. It seems to me that they'll probably just stick to 12 teams if this carries on through September and into October.
And September 24th, by the way. To me, it is kind of the end date for me. And by that, I mean. That's when all these commissioners are scheduled to meet in person again in Chicago to discuss everything. And if they can't get some common ground there, you know, shrink it down to like, hey.
We have an idea of maybe what we want to do. We have to do some tweaks here. If that doesn't happen by late September, I don't see how they change the format. And if they don't do it by September, I think they stick with 12 teams in the format we see this upcoming season. Yeah, that appears to be most likely when you talk about trying to get everybody on the same page.
Just kind of continue on with the status quo. We're being joined by Brandon Marcelo, National College Football Reporter from CBS, to talk about another story that kind of popped up out of nowhere, courtesy of McElroy earlier today, is that Nick Saban might return. I mean, we just talked about all the uncertainty just from a college football playoff perspective, haven't even gotten into NIL and transfer portal. Do you see a way in hell where Nick Sabin is just going to go backwards? I don't see it.
I mean, listen, he's going to be 74 this Halloween. Um, he partially left college football because he didn't like what it was transitioning into. It was leveling the play in field for a lot of reasons with NIL and also allowing some of the programs that weren't accustomed to getting like four stars or five stars. They were able to get that if they had a big-time booster stepping up in the NIL collectives. But Things are changing again when we talk about revenue sharing.
And now you're seeing a lot of deals that have been set up by NIL Collectives being turned down and not approved by this new College Sports Commission that started up July 1st after this house settlement. Um, but having said all that, he's got a pretty cushed life right now. Yeah, I know there's this desire, like, oh, I want to compete, but Where could he go? Where he would be assured that he can win right away and then win maybe a national title or compete for one in the next three years there, because he's not going to be somewhere more than five years, let alone maybe three. What program out there can give him that?
I don't necessarily see one out there that's going to come open anytime soon. And, you know, the clock's ticking on him. I mean, he's going to be 74 this season and He's got a good life at ESPN, getting paid millions of dollars to do what he does. I mean, he's got the president's ear. about what college sports should look like right now.
I just don't see that happening at all. But hey, it's nice media days fodder, I guess. It's talking season. Yeah, why yeah why why why add a Stress to your life in the process. Speaking of stress up, Brandon, Brian Kelly.
This man did a lot of talking when he left Notre Dame. It sounds like he changed his accent a little bit too.
Now he's here at LSU. He has to be one of the most stressed coaches where results are needed this upcoming season, huh? Yeah, and it all starts with the opener, too, because LSU just loses opener after opener in these big games. And You saw on the day at SEC Media Days how they've changed their approach with it. They've got Clemson tiger paws all over the LSU facility to motivate the players, that they're focusing on that.
They're treating it almost like a rivalry game in some ways because whatever. they've done in the past at LSU, even before Brian Kelly was there. For these season openers, for whatever reason, they just do not show up and they can't win the games. And a lot of them have been very tight, and they haven't been able to come through in the fourth quarter.
So, if he was to go out again and lose the opener again, which may very well happen, I mean, Clemson's going to be favored, it's going to be on the road and everything. You're going to start some more heat on Brian Kelly. I mean, this is a guy that. Went into last season. Leading the nation with an active winning streak of 10-win seasons, and he fell short of that last year at LSU.
He has said in the past that it's easier to contend and win a national title at LSU than it is at Notre Dame. And yet, so far at LSU, he's doing exactly what he did at Notre Dame.
So. This year, he needs to break through there. And by breakthrough, I mean win 10 or 11 games and get into the playoff and make some noise. Yeah, well yeah, you put he put his foot in his mouth on that one. Uh Brandon Marcello is joining us here on the JR Sport Re Show.
Speaking of putting a foot in the mouth, Lane Kiffin, um he hasn't said anything too outrageous yet, huh? He's been kind of quiet on the Twitter front too. Yeah, you know, he's still poking a little bit at the bear, and not necessarily a bear, but Hugh Freese down at Auburn. About his golfing habits, which I mean, I think everybody's kind of poking him for that. You know, apparently, Hugh Freeze loves to golf, golfs often, and Lane Kippen was trying to explain himself today, saying, Oh, I wasn't really poking fun at Hugh Freeze.
I was more of an inside joke, but we all know what Lane Kippen's doing. He's the king of trolls. I mean, he calls himself the transfer portal king. He's also the SEC's troll king, that guy. is always out and about and everything's very cool and calculated with him and uh It continued once again today, and I'm sure it'll continue throughout the season once they actually get into some of these game weeks.
I think you'll start seeing hearing more from him.
Well, as we creep cl I can't believe we're going to we're going to blink and the college football season is going to be underway. What teams are you really paying attention to? We've had a lot of turnover over the past couple of years as it relates to coaches and, of course, guys getting drafted. What's really capturing your attention to pay attention to this upcoming season? Does Penn State become the Ohio state of last year?
They've gone all in on this year with the transfer portal, retaining a lot of players from last season's team, not going to the NFL with some NIL money. This should be their best team they've had yet under James Franklin. They've got to not only get in the playoff, but get to the national championship game to live up to expectations. And that's a tall tall. tall task.
Also, I look around, even say in the big 10, Ohio State. How do you Bounce. Back from what you did last year, getting to a national championship, winning that thing, doing so with generational talent.
Now you're replacing your quarterback. And Ohio State, as we know, I mean, they go from cool to hot in a moment, the fan base. I mean, what if you win nine games this year? Are we talking? I mean, not necessarily Ryan Day on the hot seat, but everybody just going, oh, Ryan Day was a flash in the pan just that one year.
That's interesting to me. And then look around in the SEC, it might be the deepest conference. Do we really have What we used to have there in the past, where we had three or four, like big-time blue bloods that can contend. The SEC has not been in the national championship game in back-to-back years for the first time since 2004, 2005. What happens if that stretches into a third year?
I I think in a lot of ways this offseason, You've seen the SEC. reacting to a lot of people instead of standing tall and saying, we're the best. I mean, even today, Greg Senke is saying, you know, we hold the best hand, and he's re and he's reacting to what Brett Yormark at Big 12 Media Days said. And in the SEC spring meetings, you've got the. Commissioner and his people handing out pamphlets to me and others explaining why the SEC is still the best.
They're campaigning. They're being political with all this. I've never seen that from the SEC. I think they're a little. I think they're scrambling a little bit, and someone needs to not only emerge from there, but they need to have their top three or four blue bloods so that they're worthy of getting in the playoff this year instead of just counting on maybe one or two teams.
Oh, we're gonna we're gonna find out sooner than than later. This season's gonna be upon us. And last question for you, Brandon. If I have to think about What happens in September, October, November, when we actually get to the football? Is Bill Belichick's story and all this surrounding his life gonna kinda fade to the background?
He's he's gonna be in a little obscurity, no? A little bit? I think so if they're winning. If they're losing. Hell no.
I mean, they're going to be bringing up any little thing they can. to knock him down, to peg his personal life, anything like that. It all starts week one, man. They got to play TCU. And TCU's been no stranger to some big season opener games.
Remember, two years ago, Deion Sanders' era at Colorado started by beating TCU on the road. And now Sonny Dykes has got to take TCU on the road to North Carolina on week one. Um that's to add some entry to it, but You know, North Carolina on paper does not have a very good team. They look like a team that's going to have a losing record this year. How does Bill Belichick deal with that in year one?
I mean, there's a lot of questions there. If they're winning, they're going to get a lot of attention, but it's going to be the attention because of the coaching and the playing. If they start losing, they're going to get all the wrong type of attention. And man, it's going to be interesting to see how Bill Belichick handles that if that's the case. Yeah, wild world.
I don't know. Maybe Nick Saban can give him some advice from the TV studio. We'll we'll find out.
Sooner than later on that one. Hey, Brandon, thank you so much for the time. Please tell everybody where they can follow you and all your work with CBS. Yeah, at B Marcelo on X and just check out CBS Sports.com. Hey, Brandon, thank you so much, man.
Uh don't work too hard, okay? All right, man. See you, JR. No doubt about it. That Brandon Marcello covers all things college football for CBS.
Yeah, come on. Nick Saban coming back. Like why? Why the hell would he want to do that? I mean, we've had all these coaches across multiple sports, whether it's Coach K or Nick Saban, they all quit and bounced.
for the same reason. They don't want to deal with the wild, wild west of NIL and Transfer Portal and this and that.
So, kind of crazy to hear, you know, for instance, Lane Kiffin. He's like, oh, yeah, I think Nick Saban will be back. But Lane Kiffin says crazy things all the damn time. A matter of fact, let's take a break. When we come back on the other side, we'll hear where this story originated earlier today.
Greg McElroy was sitting around on his show, and he's just like, yeah, I think that Nick Sabin. Is gonna come back. But then I also want you to hear some of the comments. from Nick Saban as to You know, whether or not why he left in the first place.
So we'll get into that on the other side of the break. We'll talk about this ESPN top 10 quarterback list. We'll do that at the top of the hour. Of course, the home run derby is on deck in about 30 minutes or so. There's so much going on in the world of sports.
And right now, it's time for a news flash with Marco Belletti. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief. It is the JR Sport Brief Show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. Thank you so much to Brandon Marcello. for joining us from CBS sports to talk some college football.
We talked about this story earlier today of Nick Saban. reportedly maybe not done coaching. I kinda got to scratch my head at that one, Will. Get the whole story in a minute. 888-710 That's 888-710-487. 4ISN. Let's go to the phone lines before we talk about this Nick Saban story. And speaking of Nick Saban, let's go to Alabama and talk to Tyler. Tyler, you're on the JR Sport Re Show.
What's up? Sure. I'm thinking Caloli, I mean you should Like, what is it for me? How much before the All-Star break? Yeah, 38.
Yeah. 38, yeah.
So Uh, how do you think he's gonna get it?
Well, I think I'm going to go and thank you so much, Tyler, for calling from Alabama. I'm going to go in with the hometown guy here in Atlanta, Georgia. I'm going to go ahead and just choose Matt Olson. Unfortunately, we know Ronald Decunha is not in it. Because of a sore back from last week, he is going to play in the game tomorrow.
But I'm going to go with Matt Olson, knowing that, hey, he's the hometown guy. He's going to have a lot of support in the stance. And now, Wilma, how about this news right here? Paul George sorry, Tyler. Thank you for calling from Alabama.
Paul George undergoes arthroscopic procedure on left knee. will be reevaluated before the start of training camp. You gotta be kidding me. Bacha, is there like a disease with the Philadelphia 76ers? Just being like, is there some type of Sixer disease?
Did he catch something from Embiid?
Well, he's always been injury-prone. It's just. I feel like Maybe their medical staff isn't great, their facility isn't great, I don't know. It just seems that they don't make Very good financial decisions. the Sixers and it just happens to be that everyone they sign is injury prone?
Well, injury prone, forget injury prone. The guy needs to be lucky. He has a leg and a career. His leg snapped like a twig. It just, he just showed up.
And I get it. Darryl Maury is shooting for the stars and he's trying to squeeze and cross his fingers and his toes that he can get whatever he can out of this roster. It is just. It's futile in its own right. Like you gotta worry about M.
B. You gotta worry about Paul George, who's also older, and it's just He can't catch a break, and then last year was the worst 'cause then you even had Maxie who went down, so Just I'm not surprised by any stretch of the imagination, but it's like, damn, he's hurt already? Like stop podcasting. Rehab Now Saul Paul George needs to rehab Play basketball. We don't need to hear anything else from Paul George.
Please. Please, please, please get back to playing. Anyway, speaking of uh playing, Or not playing, but coaching. Nick Sabin ain't going back, okay? Listen to these comments from earlier today.
This is Greg McIlroy. Letting everybody know that he thinks there is a chance. that Nick Sabin might be back. Very much in the know person that I have a lot of respect for and. Have uh Spend a lot of time around and just really, really admire.
They seem to think Nick Savan's not done coaching. I don't, I had a similar reaction. But he's pretty adamant that he thinks Nick Sabin will be coaching again. Do you buy that? No.
Uh that's what I said. Oh, come on, man. Seven championships. L S U, Alabama The guy gave up, what, twelve million dollars a season? Seventeen years at Alabama And now all of a sudden he's just gonna Was he what the only and that he wouldn't even do that?
What is he gonna do? Tell Kalen DeBoer, take a hike, let me get my job back. Like why would he want to do this? Restart in the middle of his seventies. Like, he's been associated with Alabama, he's had success.
But why would he want the stress? One of the reasons that he retired and left is because of the stress, the natural stress, even while still being competitive. With Alabama and the Crimson Side. Nick Sabin said, I don't want to deal with this anymore. You know, I want to talk to the student athletes about, you know, going to class and becoming better football players, becoming better men, and they're over here asking me about money.
How much money am I going to get here? How am I going to get paid? The matter of fact, Nick Saban on his way out the door after the fact. He said dealing with all this NIL stuff is one of the reasons I quit. All the things that I believed in.
For all these years, no longer exist in college athletics. It's always about developing players. It was always about helping people be more successful in life. My wife even said to me, you know, like right before I retired, said, Why are we doing this? And I said, What do you mean?
She said, all they care about is how much you're going to pay them. They don't care about how you're going to develop them, which is what we've always done.
So why are we doing this? We really are creating a circumstance here that is not beneficial to the development of young people, which is why I always did what I did. And that's the reason that I always like college athletics more than the NFL, is because you had the opportunity to develop young people. No, well we know his time at the NFL with the Dolphins, uh Uh let's just say he uh He ended up back in college. And when Nick Saban was asked about coaching in college or the NFL, well, Let's just say he ain't going back to coaching anywhere.
Listen to this. I love coaching Pro Ball. I mean, and if I was going to coach today, based on the circumstances in college and in the NFL. I would coach in the NFL. because all those things in college have changed.
Idea of what college used to be is not there anymore. I mean, it used to be you went to college. to develop value for your future.
Now people are going to college to see how much money they can make. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that. But you change the whole dynamic of the importance of getting an education. making good decisions and choices. about what you do and what you don't do to create value for your future.
You change that whole dynamic. Yes, so if you are Nick Sabin, Based on everything that you just heard. Why would Nick Saban go back to college? Why, for what? I I don't know.
I I've I've Not gonna say I've ever heard. An empty story, but it just lacks credence. Like, Where would he show up at? I mean, he he's he's adjacent to the game. He hasn't left the game.
He still covers the game. He talks about the game. He can now be a part of handing out the rat poison that he always talks so glowingly about. When he was the head coach at Alabama, He's getting paid, he gets to show up, I I don't know. While the things have happened, did I ever think Bill Belichick would be at North Carolina?
The answer is hell no. Do I think Nick Sabin is going back to college? Also, hell no. But that one I feel a little bit more certain about. Like Bill Balachak.
He was pushed out of the NFL.
Okay, he was ultimately fired. I know they don't call it a firing. Bill Belichick will say that they mutually agreed to part ways. That's He can say that. He got fired.
And nobody wanted him in the NFL. If Bill Belichick wanted to continue coaching he had to go to college. Nick Sabin laughed on his own volition.
Okay, he's over here counseling Kalen DeBoer, you know, as to what he can, or can, or should not do at Alabama. Bonce, you think that man is going back to coaching college? There's no way. At his point in his life, The money he's getting from ESPN is more than enough. to get back into a full 365 schedule of having to talk to these players, recruit them, and then you have to do the coaching aspect too.
It's just, it's not smart. It wouldn't be. realistic. for Nick Sabin to come back and coach at this point. No, not at all.
He's got zero ESPA. The money is is not an object or an issue for this guy. He's been around long enough making millions of dollars. The man just told you, you heard it. Nick Saban is trying to live.
The simple life. He doesn't want to talk to an eighteen year old about how much money he's going to make. You know, at Alabama or whatever school, XYZ school. The juice is not worth the squeeze. Just kind of crazy to hear Greg McElroy talk about that.
Bill Ballet checkers. He's not done. He's not finished. He might end up somewhere else.
Okay, yeah. Maybe in Greg McElroy's dreams, I just find that hard to believe in any type of reality. It's not happening. All these coaches, him, Coach K, Jay Wright, and Bayheim, all these dudes are leaving for a reason. It's off of Bill Balachak, eeeh.
Needed to find something to do. TV wasn't enough for him. 888-710-4ISN. That's 888. 710 for ISN.
We are going to take a break. We come back on the other side. ESPN decided to put out a list. It's not as good as my top six list, but they put out a list ranking the top 10 quarterbacks. They polled executives, coaches and scouts.
Who's high, who's low? I'm gonna tell you. It's the JR Sport Re Show, the Infinity Sports Network.
