Our daughter Jessie loves playing detective. A clue. But since we discovered she has sensitive skin, we've been playing detective too. We thought the problem was our puppy. But it was actually our old detergent.

Aha.

So we switched to Tide Free and Gentle. Tide Free and Gentle provides an excellent tide clean, and it doesn't leave behind irritating residues like dyes or perfumes.

So it's gentle on your skin. Case closed. If it's got to be clean, it's got to be tide-free and gentle. It is. The JR Sport Brief Show on The Infinity The Sports Network.

I remember Oof. There was a time I was at the inner harbor, Memorial Day weekend Botcher, if you gotta you gotta kick me off the air, be prepared to do so, okay? Bot, you ever walk by you ever walked by somebody? I walked by a woman one time at the Inner Harbor. Man.

Do you ever turn around and lock eyes with somebody about you? Ever happen to you? Uh usually in the city if I do that I will get stabbed. But but yeah, no, not I can see the situation. I get I could get stabbed in Baltimore.

Easy. Um No, but I was damn man out oof. Man, she was gorgeous. She had short hair cut, Pretty brown skin. And she turned around and we turned her I went back and got her number.

And then I never heard from her. I'm like, come on, what are we doing here? What are we doing? And she intentionally walked. We walked away.

We were yards away from each other, looking at each other like, What are we doing? Let's come and talk. I don't even know how many years ago this was. And we don't Fifteen years ago at this point Damn Anyway, I wonder what she's doing. I love Baltimore.

Anyway, I gave you a top six list. For some of the best rookie seasons ever. We got Chet Holmgrim versus Bronny Tomorrow. People are hyping this up like this is magic and bird. There's two young guys in Bronny may not even be that good.

Okay. Anyway. Here's my top six. And if you want all the fancy audio and whatnot, hit Rewind on the Free Odyssey app. We just talked about it last hour.

A lot of fun. And number six, I gave you Wayne Gretzky. And number five, I gave you Fernando Mania, Fernando Valenzuela, God rest his soul. And number four, I gave you Jim Brown. Number three, I gave you Bill Russell.

Number two, I gave you Ichiro Suzuki. And number one, I gave you Magic Johnson. Yeah, I had to diversify the list. Of course, they're more than six individuals who've had absolutely amazing rookie years. Allen in Toronto brought up Wilt Chamberlain.

Absolutely amazing. I had to choose between him and Bill Russell for my list. I'm like, hey, let me put Bill Russell on here. He won a championship. And then I said there's other guys, like there's a guy who played in DC.

I had to think about putting him on the list, but I didn't. I think there's somebody eventually he's going to call and. Probably bring his name up. Put each hero on the list Man came from Japan to whoop America's ass He did a good job First batter that we've ever seen first hitter we've ever seen in America. And he just did it all.

It was like, is he going to slow down? The answer was no, Ichiro never slowed down until he was old. When he was old then he sucked, Anyway, he's Ichiro, he's the best. I loved Ichiro. And of course I gave you number one Magic Johnson.

A matter of fact, let's listen to Magic Johnson again explain. how it felt. To to just go out there. and be finals MVP. Win the championship in his rookie season when Kareem got hurt.

Listen to Magic on All Smoke. All the smoke. Kareem gets hurt in game five. I get to the airport, everybody's head is down because Kareem can't play. I said, So what?

Kareem can't play. We still gonna win. And they looked at me like, Rookie, go sit down. We can't beat Philadelphia without Kareem. I said, Man, we're gonna win this game.

I said, I gotta do something to get these guys going.

So I went and sat in Kareem's seat, and as every Laker came by, I said, Never fear, match it is here. And so I told the coach, I'm gonna play center. He was like, Have you ever played center? I said, Yeah, I played center in high school. He said, Man, that was two or three years ago.

I said, I'm gonna play center tomorrow against Codwell Jones. Long story short, you know, I scored 42 points, 15 rebounds, seven assists. We ended up winning the game, and it was a blessing to be named most valuable player of the finals. Yeah, that's magic. I'm sure he tells somebody that every day.

Nice to meet you, Magic. Yeah, I'm Magic Johnson. Do you know what I did in 1980? A 42 points, 15 rebounds, 7 assists. Anyway, let's get some more of your calls.

eight eight eight seven ten four I S N That's eight eight eight seven ten. I S N Let's go to South Carolina and talk to TJ. Hey, TJ, you're on the JR Sport Ree Show. What's up? There you go.

Yeah, I got you now. What's up? It was gonna I'm gonna keep it short as sleep, man. I just. I was looking at the list, list listening to your list.

And um basically I'm gonna just say L C, Lawrence Taylor.

Okay. He had a dominant see he didn't he didn't win the championship, but he still won um the freezing player of the year and rookie of the year, so. Yeah, he had to wait about season his rookie year. He did. He had to wait about five years before he won that championship.

Yeah. You you you are you are uh you a North Carolina fan? I know you in South Carolina. You a North Carolina fan? No, man, no, I don't like at all.

Oh, you brought up Lawrence Taylor, so I was like, maybe he's a UNC fan. I don't know. No, nah, I just know I just know his history. I mean, you know, you hear about a lot of people and stuff like that, so he's one of the great, so. Nah, you without a shadow of a doubt.

Let's just hope he stays away from college campuses.

Okay, TJ? Yes, sir. All right, go Google that. Google it, okay? Or don't Google it.

Thank you, TJ. All right, yeah, yeah. Lawrence Taylor's had some uh Never mind. Don't Google Lawrence Taylor Times Square. 888-710-4ISN.

That's 888-710. A four I S N. Oh my goodness. We got Rodney's here from Baltimore. Rodney, you don't know that woman from 15 years ago.

You're not calling to tell me about her, are you? No, man, I'm calling to tell you you got the right one on the phone. Me and my brothers are Inna Harbor originals. We were the original cooks When Phillips Harbor Place opened, me and my four brothers, that was way probably before you were born.

Okay, so that's terrific. Where is the young lady from 15 years ago? What about her? I have no idea. It was run down by the time you seen it.

If you would have thought when I saw it, that lady would have called you. Oh, well, thanks. I'm telling you.

Well, thanks. You caught the dead end of it. Wow. Listen, it wasn't. What I saw was not dead.

It was alive and I was. Oh, no, no, no. I'm not saying you didn't see good things. I'm saying man. You know, I'm a vintage man, you know, I'm telling you.

Okay, I'm an original.

Okay, okay, Robbie, all right. I'm so old, man, I used to come down there to body tap. I used to live in Warner Robbins, Georgia in nineteen seventy six. I was in the Air Force.

Okay. All right. We can start naming some other things. I've heard some things.

Okay, bro. Yeah, yeah, yeah. What else you got? Come on. Come on, back up here.

But I got something for you. The Kansas. The Kansas Comet, Gail says. Oh, yeah. He broke all the records in his didn't break all the records in his rookie season.

Meaning, he had six touchdowns against the Colts. Yeah, that was one game. That's right. That's right. Oh yeah.

I don't want to ruin your show because I got a whole list for you, and some of them right here from Baltimore. Save, well, I'm thinking about one from Baltimore. Hey, listen. Call back next week for the next top six. I don't know what it's going to be yet, but call back next week.

I got you. I just want you to remember me from. Remember, I said it was Nugget time when the Denver Nuggets won their first championship. That's the same rod me. Oh, wait.

I I I I vaguely remember that. You said what was Nuggets Town? I said it was nugget time Right before they won the title, and you laughed at me. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Because if you say it's nugget time, I'm like, is it time to go to the bathroom?

Like, what about you? Yeah, I know what you that's why you laughed at me, but I appreciate you remembering me, man. Have a great night. You as well, Ronnie. Find out your lady for me.

Thank you, Ronnie, for calling from Baltimore. Yeah, that lady probably about I don't know. She's probably about 40 years old right now, maybe 35. I don't know. Damn.

888-710-4ISN. That's 888-710-4ISN. Hey, Bach, you made me think that.

Well, I'm happy she didn't come back to stab me. I got a number. That's I have to say that's a lot better than getting stabbed. Yeah, right. Yeah, you didn't get a phone call, but you at least you didn't bleed out.

So it's a win. Oh, that that not bleeding out is is that oh, huh her number popped up. I still got a number. Hold on. I would say call it, but I don't know.

No, no, no. No, I'm not doing that. She's going to think I'm spam or something. Like, what's this number calling me from? Man, why am I I'm trying to hold on.

Over here doing things I have no business doing on the radio. Yeah, I can multitask. 888-710-4ISN. That's 888-710-4ISN. Oh, I can definitely multitask.

David is back. Hopefully, his phone works. He's in L.A. What's up, David? You're on the JR Sport Reef Show.

Hey, JR, thanks again for taking my call. Yeah, I was in a parking garage. That was why the signal cut out. Hopefully, it's better now because I'm inside the building. Please go ahead.

All right. So you covered what I was going to say about Fernando Ballenwood. Let me just get to my rookie here. Obviously, not one of the greatest rookie seasons of all time if we compare all the rookie seasons, but we just witnessed one of the greatest rookie moments of all time a couple of months ago in the Super Bowl. And I'm, of course, talking about Cooper DeGene, his pick six against Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl on the biggest stage on his birthday.

I don't know what kind of career he's going to have, but it's going to be really hard to top that moment.

Now he had a productive rookie season too. Let's not forget him diagnosing that play against Jamar Chase In Cincinnati, and then that tackle against Derrick Henry. I mean, who tackled Derrick Henry like that? Derrick Henry is a truck. No one's happy again.

He did it. Yeah. And while I would not Quinyon Mitchell beside him, because they're teammates, you know, Quinyon comes in the league and becomes a shutdown corner right away. Not one of the greatest of all time. I know.

They had great rookie seasons. Cooper DeGene definitely had one. Yes. But not one of the greatest of all time. Oh, good.

Okay. Well, thank you, David. Did your phone die again?

Now Well, this time I guess I'll hang up. Thank you, David. Uh eight eight eight seven ten four I S N. It's 888-710-4ISN. We're thinking about some of the best rookie seasons.

Ever Let's go from Los Angeles. To my neighbors in Tennessee. Doc is calling from Tennessee. What's up, Doc? You're on the JR Sport Brief Show.

JR, I'll tell you, a long-time listener, awesome show you do, and I'll agree with about 89.3% of the time when you do this top six, you're. You really do a great job of uh Actually, thinking about it, getting it mostly right. I will tell you, since you were talking about diversity in the young girl that you saw. Milwaukee, wherever it is. It was not Milwaukee.

Baltimore, I apologize. Yeah, she was from Baltimore. But go ahead. You have a. Hold on, Tac.

Since we're throwing around compliments. Doc, you have an amazing voice. Do you why you you work for the news or something like that? No, I saved live stamping out to even heal people. I'm a physician, mostly an entrepreneur that started some companies, and I'm a sports.

fanatic and uh I live, what, two hours and 45 minutes from you. And before we digress, I'm a Bihard Tennessee fan.

So I just want to say if we're talking about diversity, which I love what you said. If you talk about the WNBA, one of the greatest icon in women's sports is a lady that dunked the ball first in college and first in the WNBA, and her name is Candice Parker. And Candice Parker was not only rookie of the year, she was MVP of the year, and if I'm not mistaken, MVP of the All-Star game.

So I know we're talking about gents and that's all well and good. But the other thing I was commenting on beside her being in Washington, Tennessee. Hold on. Hold on, Doc. I used to work with Candice Parker on NBA TV.

She is a very lovely woman. Um Hold on. Devin Booker just signed a two-year, $145 million extension.

So he ain't going anywhere, even though that whole thing around him. Uh sucks. Uh but even outside of that, Doc, Was Lisa Leslie? She was the first person to dunk in a WNBA game, not Candice Parker. Good be It was about Candice Parker's accolades, and I was just precise what they.

Broden look, baby. I'm sure you're right. Yeah, she dunked. But I know she was the first. Candace was the first person to dunk in college basketball.

Yes, I think so. Which is a fact. Correct. Yes. Correct.

But anyway, you're right. And secondly, I'm always interested in people, you know, and one thing I like about you, you got to establish criteria when you talk about. Greatest players of all time. And a lot of times I get amused when they talk about, and no question, Tom Brady is the goat now, and it may be homes down the road. But one thing's for sure is that the player that's won the most MVPs in the history of the NFL isn't Tennessee, and his name's Pate Manning, and he's won five.

And then so no, I'm just making a comment.

Okay. You know, you mentioned Bird and Magic. The reason they're two of the best five players ever at their positions Is they've won three championships more, and each has won three MVPs.

So when we decide we're going to talk about the greatest player, what are the criteria?

Well, a lot of them are MVPs. A lot of that is how many championships you want. And you seem to do that.

So I appreciate your comments and as I know.

Well, it changes because people people get stupid. Like if the the criteria does change and you gotta be clear on what you're talking about. Like a lot of times people just say things to be dumb, to say to be to be stupid, okay?

somebody like Bill Russell. You know, do people look at Bill Russell?

Some people do. Do people just go, oh my God, he's the greatest champion of all time because he has 11? Not necessarily. Like, so times and eras change, and people have to be more appreciative of what's going on. Hey, Doc, thank you for calling from Tennessee.

You got some fun stuff. Thank you. He's like, I got to go save lives.

Somebody's in the back yelling for the doctor. Hey, doctor, get off the phone. We got somebody dying over here. I'll never forget a couple years ago a guy called me late at night. He's working secure.

I think we got this drop somewhere. That guy, he was working security. I'm talking to him on the phone. There is an alarm going off. I hear the alarm in the back And he's going, nah, nah, nah, it's good, it's fine.

I'm like, yo, bro, just go, go protect something, okay? Fuzzy Marmaduke. Yeah, there we go. Yeah. The guy called Heath that's exactly what it was.

I heard that in the back. I'm like, are you kidding me? What do you want to fall with me for? Like Homer Simpson at the nuclear power plant. What are we doing?

Had some great calls or I mean, I've had some great calls over the years. Police officer in Houston, Texas pulled somebody over. Guy was listening to the show the same time the police officer was. The police officer gave him a break. Police officer called me and told me that.

I'm like, damn it.

Now if I got my ass pulled over, And somebody was like, hey, JR, listen to you at night. You know who's who's not who's getting the ticket I am. Who's saving me from a ticket? Nobody. I'm over here.

I should get I should get money. Anyway. 8887104ISN. That's 888-710-4ISN. I'm being forced to take a break when I come back.

Zip. Trying to be fair. Trying to be fair, make you think. And have fun, that's it. Nothing else.

eight eight eight seven ten four I S N That's eight eight eight seven ten four I S N Talking about some of the best rookie seasons and sports ever. And we've been doing it. I gave you the list last hour. We got people calling, they got a lot of ideas, as they should. We've had plenty of athletes.

Who've had amazing rookie seasons. At number six, I gave you Wayne Gretzky.

Next five, Fernando Valenzuela. Number four, Jim Brown. Number three, Bill Russell. Number two, Ichirosizuki. Number one, Magic Johnson.

Plenty of callers who've also had great seasons, saying names like Wilt Chamberlain and Gail Sayers and Candace Parker. Also people with great. rookie years. Let's get to your calls. Please understand.

We got a lot of people here on the lines. I want to get to everybody.

Okay, and then I also got to get to a few things that took place this day in sports history. And so let's try to be as uh poignant and clear as possible. 888. seven ten four I S N That's 888-710-45. for ISN.

James is calling from Mississippi. You on the J.R. Sportry show, James, what's up? Yeah, I'm calling from a little town called Nelligan, Mississippi. But I see you got Ikiro Suzuki on there.

I mean, why he. The second place. What type of rookie do you have? Ichiro Suzuki? Yeah.

You're asking me what type of rookie year Ichiro Suzuki had? Yeah. He won Rookie of the Year. He won MVP. He came from Japan.

He batted 350. Every single month, the guy batted like 320. He had 242 hits in his rookie season. He had a rookie hits record. He won a gold glove, and the Mariners won a record 116 games.

The only thing that the Mariners didn't win or he didn't win. What's the World Series at you? World Series. But I got one for you then.

Okay. What about Abba Abba Pujos? He sure as hell did have a great rookie season. He had a great rookie, yeah. He had a a hell of a career.

Yeah, well, we're talking about rookie seasons, James. That's that's the point. But but he had a good rookie. He batted 329. What a Uh a hundred uh yeah, the hundred queer rolls matter here.

Oh, it was good. Yeah, let me help you. Yeah, yeah, he was one of my favorite players to watch. He batted three hundred twenty nine with thirty seven home runs, one hundred and thirty RBIs, one hundred and twelve runs scored. He played every game except for one.

They're right. There you go, James. I'm going to talk to fan. I just have to bring that up. And I like polos, too.

Yeah. And you talking about uh the blue flame. Abode.

Okay. You spent a couple dollars in there. I don't know what you're talking about. At the vending machine. Thank you, James.

Yeah. Okay. Okay then. Thank you. Bye, James, from Mississippi.

James has been here and done some things in Atlanta. I will not ask. I will not ask. 888-710-4ISN. That's 888-710-4ISN.

Joel is calling from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Go ahead, Joel. Yeah. How's it going, JR? It's going well, man.

What's up? Good. I got this guy definitely wouldn't flirt with anyone on your list, but I find that a very underappreciated rookie season was Buster Posey. Mm. He won the World Series.

Yeah, yeah.

So he won. This is, yeah, he won Rookie of the Year. He is 305 as a catcher. The most important thing in my opinion is he came in with some power arms on that team. And played such good defense and controlled the game from behind the plate so well, they threw to him confidently.

Tim Linscombe didn't mind. spiking a twelve to six curve. Matt Kane threw nasty cutters, Brian Wilson. I think how well he did at the plate and how well of a job as a twenty-two year old that he did commanding. The pitching staff was phenomenal.

And I think that rookie season might have kick started what could have been the best beginning six years of anyone's career with a rookie of the year, an MVP and three rings.

Well, listen, that man is going into the Hall of Fame. Oh, yeah, he is. That those first six years almost cemented it. This man is he's running the team. And I can tell you, I had interviewed him.

I haven't seen him in a long time. I interviewed him at his height. He's also a very, very nice guy, which I'm very humble. He's a very humble guy, yeah. But I've always appreciated what Buster Posey brought to the game, and it was impressive how well he did at such a young age coming in.

Yeah, without a shadow of a doubt. Hey, thank you so much, Joel, for calling from Calgary. Thank you. Hey, thanks for having me, man. No doubt about it.

Let's go to Mike in Baltimore. You're on the JR Sport Reef Show. Here you JR. Hey, what's up? Go ahead, Mike.

I'm sorry to tell you, but that young lady is like married and has got like 15 children now.

So we just have to give up that. No. All right. I want to. This now his this his rookie year statistically wasn't all that great, but it's Wes Hunsel.

He won rookie of the year and MVP. The bullets went from last place to first place, fifty seven to twenty five. And like I said, he won MVP and Rookie of the Year. He did average eighteen rebounds. He only maybe averaged thirteen.

Points, but he did average 18 rebounds in that outlet pass, and he just revitalized the. The Bullock franchise to the book of the year. I thought about him too, and I was just like, yeah, I got Chamberlain over here, and I got Bill Russell, and I had to leave Wes unsold out, but I thought about it. And JI, real quick, his wife taught at my elementary school. I met him when I was a kid.

His wife was a kindergarten teacher. She owns a children's school now. But I met him. I was walking outside the school and I saw this knees rising up from a parked car. And I looked in those words on himself.

And he was just a nice guy and a beast on the court, though. A beautiful guy. Yeah, he passed away a few years ago. Yeah. Thank you, Mike.

Appreciate you for calling from Baltimore, man.

Okay, my man. No doubt. Shoutouts to Mike from Baltimore.

Some cool stuff. 888-710-4ISN. Ty from South Carolina. Go ahead, Ty. Hey, what's up, JR, man?

You okay? What is that a line you got in the back? What was that? Don, that was a car going past me. I'm on my nighttime walks.

I normally listen to you while I'm walking, my man. All right, thank you. What's up? Tell me about some rookie. Go ahead.

Man, I want to talk about this incredible year that my man Jaden Daniels had.

Okay, all right, all right. I'm born and raised in the DMV, so to watch the Washington, whatever they want to call themselves. Whether it's the commanders, I'm proud of what they're doing. We didn't make it to the Super Bowl. Hopefully we do it next year.

And I'm loving the rookie year that he has. We didn't have a rookie quarterback like that in a long time. Yeah. He almost went to the Super Bowl. Hey, listen, Ty, you heard us talking about taking a walk yesterday, right?

How I'm afraid to bust my ass. You remember that? Did you hear that? Yeah. Yeah, I heard you, bro.

You're outside taking a nighttime walk. Do you have on like reflectors and stuff? Yeah, I'm just trying to avoid this heat. This South Carolina heat is intense, man. Try to avoid the cars, too, okay, Ty?

All right? I'm sure, I got you, my man. That's all I wanted to say to you. Walk walk safe, my my neighbor in South Carolina. Oh boy.

Oh boy. Marco Belletti, you heard me. We talked about this yesterday. I told you, walking is dangerous. He's.

He's worried about the heat. He needs to wear reflectors. Yeah, no, you know what? I should probably get them too 'cause my track at the local high school is is closed until September, which is where I usually walk every night after work. Uh they're redoing whatever.

So now I'm stuck walking through the neighborhood. A lot of spots with no sidewalks and You know, five o'clock in the morning. It's kinda dark. Kind of dark. You when I leave the studio There's an older gentleman who is jogging, okay?

And he's a large guy. This guy, like. He's a 6'566. He's a senior citizen. And he is jogging, and everything is lit up.

See, I told you, as you get older, you got to be careful. He is not risking nothing. His bulk I could see him coming from like a block away. Ball cap has reflectors, the shirt has reflectors, everything has reflectors on it. You know, that makes sense because that'd be the only things that are going to get me.

I'm going to wind up down on the ground because I popped an Achilles. I'm going to get popped by a car or I'm going to get beat up by a deer because those are the only things I see during my walk through the neighborhood. It's just there's deer everywhere.

So if I get mauled by a deer, hit by a car, or I pop an Achilles, you know. Mauled by the Army. You know, I don't know. They seem friendly, but you never know. They can get mad.

And let's be fair, that thing gets up on his hind legs and comes after me. I'm done. I'm not taking out a deer. You'd be the first person mauled by deer. I wouldn't be the first.

I mean, look, I can't walk without busting my ass. I got to stretch. I'm an old-busted man.

Now you got me fighting deer? I'm not doing that. I eat deer. I eat venison. I eat it.

I'm not worried about the deer eating me. I eat the deer.

Credentials, that's how I can figure that part out. Oh, trespassing.

Okay. Yeah. I'm not going to ask any questions. I can't help you. If you get arrested, I can't help you.

You know why you gotta turn it down? Because well, first of all, if you're on the line, I will get you on the line.

Okay. Before we get to more of your phone calls and I leave, I'm going to give you a few things that took place this day in sports history. Side back. Back in the days when I was young, I'm not a kid anymore. But some days I sit and wish I was a kid again.

It's time for this day in sports history. See, back in those days, we had radio and you couldn't see anything, and it was primitive and lousy, and we liked it. The JR Sport Brief Show. I wish I was 50 years younger and I'd kick your ass. It is July 9th.

The year is 2025, but if we go back to July 9th, 1988, Nolan Ryan. Is the seventh man to win 100 games? With two different teams.

Okay, he did it with the Angels. On this day, he did it with the Astros as they beat the Mets 6-3. I want you to take a listen. God rest his soul, Pete Rose telling everybody his favorite story of Nolan Ryan. The last game before the strike in 81, I'm going for Sam Busel's record of 36-31.

We're playing at Veterans Stadium, and I got a hit off of Nolan the first time up, okay?

Now, Nolan Ryan just said to himself and everybody else watching, this guy's not going to beat the record off me. He struck me out the next three times up. I didn't swing one ball, and I got one for four. And I had to wait 56 days to break the record. That's the kind of guy Nolan Ryan was.

I love Nolan Ryan. Yeah, well damn it, he struck out. About 5700 people, okay. Hey, how about this dance sports history July 9th, 2000? At one button or less.

Pete Samfras. He passed Roy Emerson for the most Grand Slam champions ever.

Okay? Championship, see Todd Willie Renshaw, a guy who was playing in 1880. I did not see him play, neither did you.

Okay. He beat Pat Rafter to win it all at Wimbledon. It was his seventh Wimbledon Championship, his 13th Grand Slam Championship. And Novak Djokovic said, screw that.

Okay, listen to Pete Sanford's after his win. It means so much to me and my parents. We're here today. Which is so important to me. They could share this with me, and obviously.

I love Wimbledon. I love playing here. I've never had a chance to talk to the people here after I've won, so I'd like to thank everyone for. supporting me over the years. This is the best court in the world.

I certainly look forward to coming back next year. Yeah, please, more Americans in soccer. Come on, Ben Shelter. Come on, Fritz.

Well, not Ben, he lost today. Anyway, July 9th, 2006, this is one of the greatest soccer matches ever. Italy. It won its fourth World Cup. In a shootout against France.

Okay, they won the shootout 5-3. They had a 1-1 draw. They went into extra time and played forever. Zinidine Zizan, this man, remember, hit him with that headbutt. And how the hell did he become a manager?

Anyway, he did. He got the boot. Listen. to the game winning penalty kick. Grosso's trying not to think about the bigger picture.

He's thinking about the job he has to do and that's all. And Grosso has done. On that job, the kick that means Italy. Win the World Cup in 2006. What do you have to say?

Italy's penalties have been absolutely superb. Zenedine Zidane is like if Draymond Green became a coach. You know, like how? How? Anyway, July 9th.

2011. Derek Jeter. He hit a home run for his 3,000 hit. A matter of fact, he didn't just get his 3,000 hit. He was the first Yankee to ever get his 3,000 hit in a Yankee uniform.

Yeah, forget all the other guys before him, the ancient guys, Derek Jeta did it. The 3-2. Helps Drill deep to left field. Going back, Joyce, looking up. Sia!

3,000! History with an exclamation point! Oh, what a way to join the 3,000 hit club. Derek Dieter has done it in grand style. And Derek becomes the 28th man to pick up 3,000 hits.

The first Yankee ever in the glorious history of the franchise, and he does it with a home run. And a 37-year-old captain of the Yankees, number two, Derek Jeter. Does it on this beautiful July afternoon in New York City? Congratulations to Derek Cheeter. Hit number 3,000.

And Yankees beat the Rays in that game 5-4. Everything with Derek Geto was always so damn dramatic. And he lost, he didn't always win, he lost and had and got hurt, but he had his, he had like a Tom Brady-esque career. It's like, is this guy always gonna win? Plenty of people.

Tom Brady lost. Ask Elon Manning, but damn it, as close to perfect of a career as possible. Anyway, July 9th, 2016, Serena Williams. won her record time 22nd Grand Slam. She beat Angelique Carber in two sets to win Wimbledon.

I want you to take a listen to this courtesy of Wimbledon. Yeah, it's been incredibly difficult not to think about it. I had a couple of tries this year. I lost to two great opponents, one actually being Angelique. But, you know, it makes the victory even sweeter to know how hard I worked for it.

And thank you guys for being out here to see number 22. This is awesome.

So I love you guys so much. Thank you very much. Yeah, she finished with 23 grand slams. Wow. And those are a few things that took place this day in sports history.

We got a few callers who have been very patient. We're running out of time. You got to hit me with your point quick. And, Steve from Baltimore, you're on the chair of Sport Reshow. Hey, JR, long time listener, first time caller.

I'll get to the point. You talk about great rookie seasons. I can't believe nobody's mentioned Adrian Peterson from two thousand seven. You've got the single game, broke the single game mushing record set by my favorite back, Jamal Lewis. A few years before.

He had 200-yard rushing games. He led the league in rushing and is a rookie of the year. Nobody's mentioned Adrian. What's up with that?

Well, thank you, Steve, for calling from Baltimore. You want to talk about a rookie? One guy that I thought about, didn't put him on the list, was Randy Moss. Let's go ahead and talk to Cliff from New Orleans. Cliff, you're on the JR Sport Brief Show.

GR, I just wanted to correct the earlier caller. Uh spoke about Gail Says is one of my uh great favorite players. Uh And in uh nineteen sixty five, in December the twelfth. A regular sphere He scored six touchdowns. Against these San Francisco 49ers, not the Yeah.

Oh, and uh at the time Yeah, I was thinking one one one was the ADR pants. Uh There was a punt return. I think the other four from scrimmage, but it was in the mud also. In the rain. Oh, okay.

It was only the team. It was only the team?

Okay. All right. I don't think that's. Listen, if I scored six touchdowns, I don't care if anybody mistook it for, you know, the neighborhood alley team or the New York Giants. I'd be telling everybody.

Thank you, Cliff. Yeah, it was in the mud, too. Mud and rain. Thank you. Thank you.

Appreciate that. For calling from New Orleans.

Okay. It's like when Al Bundy had that amazing football game from high school. Joel from Baltimore, you get the last word. Make it quick. Hey, I'll make it quick for you.

Thanks for having me. You didn't mention RG three, ma'am. I yeah, there's no way in hell that I would. In comparison to some of the six individuals that I named, like Jim Brown, like what are we talking about here, Joel? Rookie season, I'll put it this way: I had him on my fantasy team, and I won my league.

Having him on my fantasy team, he killed it. He killed it. I'm happy he won you. I'm a Ravens fan. I hate to say it, you know, but Hilody not that first.

He wasn't good anymore, but he was good that first season. Yeah, he played for the Ravens. I'm happy he won you money. But one of the greatest rookie seasons ever, like top six, RG3, good rookie season. I would go back and look at them numbers, man.

He was also hooked up. He got injured. Remember, he got a lot of money. Yes, I know. His coach threw him to the wolves and said, screw your knees.

Joel, thank you for calling. It was awful. Yep. All right. Thank you.

Yep. Thank you. No doubt. No, it's not one of the greatest ever. Good, but not great.

Anyway, if you missed a minute of the show, go ahead and hit rewind on the Free Odyssey app. Thank you to Bron Powell for joining us from the Boulder Camera Daily to talk about everything. going on. With Deion Sanders and those Buffaloes.

Okay, if you missed the whole top six list and And you just want to have fun, just hit rewind on the Odyssey app, okay? I'll be back tomorrow, 6 p.m. Eastern, 3 Pacific. If you want to find me on the internet, like Robbie from Alabama, who said, Oh, yeah, I found JR. He didn't look like what I thought he did.

You can find me everywhere at JR Sport Brief. Thank you to Ryan Bacha. Thank you for listening. I'm gone. But don't move, don't leave, don't go anywhere.

Why? Bart Winkler coming up next. Be safe, be smooth, be cool, be well. Thank you, Ryan Botcher. Looking to earn a business degree that fits your busy life?
