It is! The JR Sportbree show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. I'm coming to you live from Atlanta, Georgia. Much love and many thanks to everybody tuned in and locked in all over North America. I don't know where you are on this Friday, but I want to say thank you for being here. This is exactly where I will be. This is when the show gets started every weekday at 6 p.m. Eastern, 3 Pacific.
I am in beautiful Atlanta, Georgia. Thank you so much to our producer in New York City, Ryan Botcher, and thank you to you for tuning in. On the free Odyssey app, on your local Infinity Sports Network affiliate, on Sirius XM, Channel 375, and on a smart speaker, if you're fancy and you have one.
Ask it to play the Infinity Sports Network. It's Friday and we got a lot to get into to end the week. After two days, the NBA draft is done. Yeah, it took two days. Did they really need two days?
No, they didn't. But it's over. And one of the most controversial subjects of the draft appears to be over as well.
I'm talking about Ace Bailey. Is he showing up to Utah? Is he not showing up to Utah? What's he going to do? I think I have a little bit of an update.
We'll talk about that in a minute. Masai Ujiri, gone from the Toronto Raptors. No longer the president had all that success in Denver. Toronto brought him in and now apparently he has gotten the boot. We'll discuss Devin Booker not leaving Phoenix. Looks like he's going to get a contract extension. The NHL is adding games.
It's like everybody wants extra. NBA wants more draft. NHL wants more games.
NFL, they'd play 30 games if they could. We got Jake Weinbach joining us. NBA analyst to talk about the draft. We got beef between Bill Simmons and Kendrick Perkins. We got Barry Bonds getting a statue. We have more participants in the home run derby here in Atlanta. We got Kaitlyn Clark who's hurt again. We got the Friday funny at the end of the show. We'll talk about a few things that took place this day in sports history.
We got a full show. And if you want to be a part of it, it's easy. You call up the number 888-710-4ISN.
That's 888-710-4ISN. You can find me all over the internet. I exist at JR Sportbrief. Happy Friday to you. Hope you've had a terrific Friday. Hopefully you're having a good start to the weekend. I just hope you are terrific. A lot to discuss. But before I do or say anything else, happy Friday to you, Ryan.
Happy Friday. It's good. I'm excited. To sit here and do the show or to leave? No, I can't leave. I'm stuck here.
I'd stay a little later. But I'm excited for the show. Terrific. Well, you know what? Let's get it started then.
And one of the most ridiculous things. I just told you that the NBA draft is done after two days. Did they need two days? No. On Wednesday, did the world need to sit around for three and a half hours to learn about some guy from Europe selected at number 28 or 30? No.
No, they did not. We did not meet three and a half hours for the NBA draft. It did not need to run until, I don't know, 30 minutes to midnight on the East Coast. Shout outs and God bless to everybody on the West Coast. You guys get things a little bit earlier. You get to watch the draft and then you still get to go out and have some dinner or a drink or whatever the hell you want. Shout outs to everybody on the West Coast. I love y'all.
And then we had the draft last night, which moved faster. Who the hell was taken? Don't know. Don't care. Doesn't matter. Ask me in a couple of years when some of these guys are actually worth a damn. When one of these guys is, you know, a six man off the bench, one of these guys is having an amazing career, one of these dudes in the second round is an All-Star.
Let me know then. As it stands today, it's just one big shrug. I do not care. In the words of the great Mike Tomlin, we do not care. OK, now, having said that, the biggest story in the draft wasn't Cooper Flag.
Like we know Cooper Flag was going to end up number one overall to the Dallas Mavericks. We know that was going to take place. And so, of course, there needed to be a storyline. Of course, there needed to be some drama. And ultimately, it ended up being Ace Bailey, a prospect that majority of people probably never even watched because he played for Rutgers.
And if you keep up with college basketball, well, maybe you don't have to. Rutgers sucked this past year. OK, it was Ace Bailey. It was Dylan Harper, the son of Ron Harper, running up and down with a bunch of scrubs on Rutgers. OK, nobody cared. The most anybody saw of this team were a bunch of highlights. And so he ended up being the big story, Ace Bailey did, because he did not work out individually for any team. None. He had a workout and meetings and lunch and dinner and breakfast.
And I don't know, he's probably he's not old enough to have no wine. Bottom line is the Sixers were going to treat him very nice, meet him, get to know him, and then maybe draft him. Ace Bailey reportedly didn't want to go to any of the top five teams because he wanted to end up in Washington, which I don't blame him because they would give him the ball and they would tell him, hey, go out there and go to work.
That was it. And then the fact that he didn't work out with anybody, he canceled that workout with the 76ers. People started to look and talk about him like he was a pariah, like he was bucking the system, which he was, and it's his option to work or do whatever he wants.
But people had a fed about it. Oh, he didn't do this. Oh, he's not following the system. Oh, who cares? We've had plenty of players over the years who decided not to participate fully in just connecting with different teams or meeting with different teams.
It's well within his right to do so. I think this whole thing about Ace Bailey was much to do about nothing. And then when he was actually selected number five overall by the Utah Jazz, there were still reports about whether or not he would show up, whether or not he would report. And his agent or someone operating in his camp as an agent, Omar Cooper representative, he didn't want to answer a question as to whether or not Ace Bailey would show up to Utah.
Listen to this. The big question is, are we going to see him in Utah anytime soon? I asked Omar Cooper his thoughts on his client's future in Utah, and he declined to answer those questions. He he declined to answer these questions.
You got to be kidding me. I mean, we've heard from Ace Bailey over the past several days. I mean, before the draft, he was simply asked, hey, well, why don't you work out in Philly? And the answer that we continually got from Ace Bailey was along the lines of, well, I can only control what I can control.
What the heck does that mean? You can certainly control working out with a different team that's in your control. And you made the decision not to. And so I think one thing that Ace Bailey did not do was appropriately communicate what the heck he was trying to do. Everything came across as an excuse.
I can only control what I can control. It then went from that to, well, I just want to play basketball. Well, say you're going to play for Utah.
How difficult is it to say that? And so there are thoughts or were thoughts that he wasn't going to show up. There was a report from the same Jonathan Givoni who basically said. His agent already told a team, one team, if you pick him, he's not showing up.
And that lit a fire yesterday. People thinking about whether or not this dude was going to honor being drafted and show up. And it was reported that the Utah Jazz, well, we know run by Danny Ainge and his son that they don't care. They drafted Bailey and they were certainly not going to trade him.
Listen to this. Brian Windhorst reported it on ESPN. I do not. I do not think any team in this situation would give in. They have the ultimate position. And I do not see Danny Ainge giving in. And here's the bottom line. The Utah Jazz play in Salt Lake City.
And I say this to somebody who lives in the middle of the country. They cannot worry about whether a player wants to be in Salt Lake City or whether he loves to fit on their roster. They have to draft and develop the most talented players they can. That is why they took him, despite him not working out.
And they will absolutely not budge on this. And eventually, Ace Bailey is going to be a Utah Jazz. We'll just see how long it takes for him and his representation to figure that out. Well, it took his representation to go ahead and figure that out.
But ultimately, at the end of the day, you think about Ace Bailey. He had an option. He had a choice.
He could work out with whoever he wanted to work out with or not work out with anybody. And he chose not to. But when it comes down to where he's drafted, he took it a step further.
Ace Bailey pretty much said, hey, I'm going to show up to work. Listen to his agent, Andrew Whitley. He's thrilled to be going to Utah. Obviously, it's it's an honor to be selected in the top five of the NBA draft. And, you know, we think he can do a lot of great things out there.
You certainly should get a ton of playing time and have a lot of chances to show what he can do. So so we think it's a great situation for him basketball wise. What was sort of some of that thought process going into the draft process? Yeah, I mean, we focus, you know, again, this was led by his longtime manager, Omar Cooper, who's who we're partnering with on this. And Omar really, you know, focused more on fit rather than going third in the draft kind of thing. He wanted some place where where Ace could have the best possible basketball fit for his game. And we think Utah is one of the best places he could have gone.
Oh, so nice. Ace Bailey found some place that he will be happy in. He's going to report tomorrow. Everybody in Utah, everybody in the NBA, the fans, everybody can take a deep breath. Inhale. And relax.
Yeah, go ahead. Exhale. I found this story to be much to do about nothing. I wouldn't have complained. I would not have given a thought. To Ace Bailey.
Until he did not report. There was so much of of nothing in this story. You have Ace Bailey here. Who's selected at number five by the Utah Jazz, who didn't work out with a team.
You have Cooper Flag, who for what, the better part of a year now, we have known that he was going to be selected. Number one, overall, there was no story. There was nothing sexy. There was nothing that was going to captivate and grab the attention of anybody.
And so everybody just looked at Ace Bailey and threw a fit. What he's doing is wrong. This is not cool. Is he going to show up?
Are the Jazz going to trade him? I mean, we live in a world right now. Everybody needs a storyline. Everybody needs something to gravitate to. Everybody needs something to complain about. Or quite frankly, go out and pitch a fit.
And it was Ace Bailey. Well, listen, when he shows up at the press conference and he says, hey, I'm happy to be here, I'm looking forward to play. Case closed. If he doesn't show up tomorrow, if there is no press conference, if I don't know, he's like, hey, you know, I don't know if I want to be here. And it's whatever the case it is. Unless he's not on the plane.
Sitting on a stage, answering questions, giving boilerplate answers that they have already prepared him to deliver today. Relax. Chill. There is nothing to worry about. There's no storylines in this draft.
There are none. It's done. It's finished. Cooper Flag is going to Dallas. Ace Bailey is going to Utah. And I guess everybody can just chill out now. Nobody major got traded during the draft.
A botcher. Do we count up Mark Williams in that space? No.
Right. I'd say yes, but he's not major. He's not major. So.
So what did you say yes for? I thought you said like any real player to get really traded. No, no, I said major.
No, no. He's not a Durant. He's not a Desmond Bain.
He's an injury prone center that even the Los Angeles Lakers did not want. This was a quiet draft, all things considered. And everybody just looked for a little bit of something, just a little bit. To throw a fit about.
It happened to be Ace Bailey. Hey, call me if he's not at a press conference over the next couple of days. Then we have a story right now.
Past two days, past three days, past week. Much to do about nothing. It's the J.R. sport re-show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. You know what? I hope you have just as eventful of a weekend as Ace Bailey.
Exploring a new place, going to a new city, meeting new people. I hope you have a tremendous weekend. And a matter of fact, I'm going to do my best to make sure that you have a great start to your weekend.
OK? We have a lot to get into. To talk about the NBA draft now that it is concluded after two days, we have Jake Weinbach, who's going to join us next hour. NBA analyst. We're going to talk about Devin Booker. We know Kevin Durant got the boot. Bradley Beal is likely to get the boot.
Devin Booker apparently is going nowhere. Barry Bonds, he's going to be immortalized. He's getting a statue. We have the Major League Baseball home run derby. Yeah, it's coming up in a few weeks. We got Acuna and then we have someone else who has joined the fray.
Kaitlyn Clark is out again. We'll get into the Friday funny. We'll talk about a few things that took place this day in sports history. We're going to get into the NHL, which says you want more and more and more. We're going to give it to you.
And then on the other side of the break, this is kind of crazy. Now that the draft is done, we have an executive who's done in his city. I'm going to tell you what executive is cooked on the other side of the break.
If you want to give me a holler, you can do that. The phone number 888-710-4ISN. That's 888-710-4ISN. We're just getting started.
It's Friday. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief show coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief. It is the JR Sport Brief show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. 888-710-4ISN is the number.
That's 888-710-4ISN. Right before we went to break, we talked about Ace Bailey. Apparently he is going to show up in Utah, in Salt Lake City. He's going to attend the press conference for the Jazz. He's he's going to go about business just like everybody else now that he's been drafted.
And so now people can just relax. OK. And with the NBA draft done earlier this morning, we received a surprising bit of news. Masai Ujiri, who's been with the Toronto Raptors for the better part of a decade, about 12 years now, after making the draft selections for the Raptors, like taking Colin Murray Boyle's with the number nine overall pick, this morning at the conclusion of the draft or last night was the conclusion of the draft, this morning we found out that Masai Ujiri is gone. He is no longer leading the way for the Toronto Raptors, Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment.
They've gone through a little bit of a reorganization when it comes down to decision making and ownership. And Masai Ujiri, who led the Raptors to a title in 2019, I guess 2019 was was too damn long ago. He's been fired. This man was executive of the year with the Denver Nuggets. He was able to parlay the success with the Nuggets over to running the Toronto Raptors. And now he's been given the boot. Quite surprising when you're able to elevate yourself from GM to being president of the entire team. Now, earlier today, we heard from Keith Pelley. He's pretty much the boss man. He's the guy who runs Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, who pretty much owns the Raptors.
And damn it, it feels like everything up in Toronto, Canada. Keith Pelley gave an explanation as to why you would fire one of the most, well, well liked. And then also one of the most accomplished presidents or GMs, one of the most accomplished executives in the entire NBA.
Listen to what Keith Pelley had to say. Today's not an easy day. But as you know, change is never easy. Masai Ujiri has had a monumental impact on the Raptors and on our community during his 13 seasons with this organization. His legacy will be indelibly etched in our city in perpetuity based on him playing such a significant role in bringing the 2019 NBA Championship to our city. And also how he transformed our brand and worked through the Raptors to create a connection with so many fans in Toronto. We owe Masai a great deal of gratitude and I wish him the very best moving forward.
One thing we know, wherever Masai ends up, he will be successful. Wow. Welcome to the NBA. I don't know, maybe the Toronto Raptors are following the blueprint of the New York Knicks.
And I get it from a success standpoint. The Toronto Raptors as it stands right now, they have sucked, OK? They've dealt with injuries like a lot of teams in the NBA.
But when I think about the roster, it's a bunch of young guys, OK? You have Emmanuel Quickly who can score hurt. Brandon Ingram who can score hurt. RJ Barrett who can score but not consistently, not a winner. Scottie Barnes expected to be more than what he already is. You have Jakob Pertl. You drafted Grady Dick. He's going to be better. He's going to continue to get better. But is he moving the needle?
I think not. Damn it, they won 30 games last year. And I don't think Masai Wajiri got fired because they won 30 games. I think Masai Wajiri probably got fired because he was looking for a check. He's probably looking for some more money and he probably said, well, the championship was in 2019.
What have you done for me lately? See ya. We're going to pay somebody else to do the same damn results and give us the same results that you just got. And I can't knock the Toronto Raptors for that. But why would I compare to the New York Knicks? I just, at a baseline level, getting rid of a solid accomplished top notch talent at the end of the job is just ridiculous.
OK? You think about the New York Knicks. They have gone as far as they have gone in 25 years with Tom Thibodeau. And yes, nobody's perfect, but they had so much success with the guy. And they thanked him by saying, good riddance.
Goodbye. Here you have Masai Wajiri, who's been successful everywhere. He's gone from Denver to Toronto. Helped bring him a championship risky move and saying, hey, let's bring in Kawhi as a rental. It ended up in a championship. And yeah, it took a couple of Golden State Warriors like Kevin Durant and, you know, Klay Thompson getting hurt for the championship to actually take place. But it happened.
The bet paid off. Maybe they wouldn't have even been in that position. They wouldn't have. Without some of those shots. Go ask Joel Embiid that Kawhi Leonard hit in that postseason.
And his thank you is getting the boot. And why is this even stupid for the Toronto Raptors? Y'all waited until now. You didn't try to figure out his contractual situation. You didn't try to figure this out before the draft. Why are you going to let a guy. Go ahead and help mold and shape the future of your franchise. Why would you let him make those selections and then wake up and fire him the next day? Now, that's dumb.
You know what? You might as well buy a house. Let somebody do all the renovations after you've already decided to purchase it. And then move in with the crap that they just decided to change up.
Like, well, what sense does that make? Why are you renovating the house? Why are you letting this guy renovate the house?
You're moving in. It's stupid. It's dumb. The Toronto Raptors could have brought somebody in. They could have fired Masai Ujiri. And they could have moved on.
And he could have been gone. It's just stupid to me. The Toronto Raptors, their fans are great. I think honestly, I mean like a lot of fan bases, I think a lot of fans in Toronto can be a little delusional about their team. And the realities of what they can or can't do. And why not?
I think it's a beautiful optimism. But dare I say, the Toronto Raptors have entered into the land of the stupid. They've joined the New York Knicks. I don't know if I want to say.
Yeah, why not? They've joined the Sacramento Kings. And maybe even the Memphis Grizzlies. They got rid of Taylor Jenkins because Jon Morant didn't want them. What?
Jon Morant? Give him a year or two. He ain't going to want Memphis. Memphis isn't going to want him. I thought the Toronto Raptors were smart because they had Masai Ujiri. And wherever he does go, like Keith Pelley said, I expect Masai Ujiri to have success.
Keith Pelley was also asked, and this is the big question for me. Why the heck would you fire him now? This decision today is hard. It's a tough decision. But I think it's the right decision for the Raptors at this time.
And I will continue to make decisions that I think are right for the organizations that put us in the best opportunity to win. Wham wham wham. Boiler plate. I've heard that one before. I've heard lame excuses for management before. I've heard some ridiculous things. Oh, by the way, did we ever hear from the Knicks why they fired Thibodeau?
Nothing, right? Not in specific, no. Not from Dolan.
Did we hear anything from anybody? I don't think so. Yeah, no.
The answer is no, no. Most New York Knicks thing ever. Knicks fire their head coach after the most successful run that they've ever had in 25 years. And the New York Knicks say nothing. The New York Knicks allow rumors about who they are going to hire and who's coming in next.
Pretty much be the next, you know, headline in New York City. The Knicks are dumb. The Raptors are stupid. And the Sacramento Kings, well, they're in their own category. Sorry. Good luck to the fans in Toronto.
They deserve a whole hell of a lot more. It's the J.R. sport re-show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. 888-710-4ISN.
That's 888-710-4ISN. We're going to take a break. When we come back, we're going to talk about someone who will not get the boot. We're going to talk about somebody who's going to be apparently sticking around for a few years and everybody surrounding him is leaving. Kevin Durant is gone. Bradley Beal is likely to be gone.
But this dude is going to be in it for the long haul. I'll tell you who it is on the other side of the break. It's the J.R. sport re-show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network.
And right now it is time for a newsflash. Here he is. It's Rich Ackerman. You're listening to the J.R. sport brief. It is the J.R. sport re-show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. 888-710-4ISN.
That's 888-710-4ISN. We talked about Ace Bailey reportedly showing up tomorrow for the Utah Jazz. We talked about Masai Ujiri. Gone now from the Toronto Raptors. This man helped bring them a title in 2019 in the Toronto Raptors and why would they? When has anybody ever got a clear cut answer from management? The answer is never. And so management and speaking to the fans, nobody had a definitive answer as to why the Raptors got rid of Masai Ujiri. Outside of now was the time and we thank him very, very much. Masai is gone.
Ace Bailey is getting ready to show up. But I want to stay out West. Not in Utah.
I want to stay in the Southwest. I want to talk about the Phoenix Suns because we know Kevin Durant is gone. They've shipped him out, sent him to the Houston Rockets. OK. We know that Bradley Beal, he's going to be gone eventually, too. I mean, probably the reason that Kevin Durant is gone is because they couldn't get rid of Bradley Beal and you couldn't get rid of Bradley Beal. So they tried to get rid of Kevin Durant. Durant is like, oh, you don't want me. I want to leave.
Done. But one guy who's going to be sticking around apparently with this team, not going anywhere, is Devin Booker. Yeah, Devin Booker has been with this team since 2015.
He was drafted by the Phoenix Suns first round, 13th overall pick. He's been a four time All-Star. This guy can go out there and score with the best of them. He had 70 points in one game a few years ago.
This guy can just go out there and get buckets. I mean, a few years ago, he helped bring and take the Phoenix Suns to the NBA Finals. And it just to me, just seems that Devin Booker is going to be a lifer here with the Suns because we have an entire report now that he, as everybody is leaving, Devin Booker might be getting himself a two year one hundred and fifty million dollar contract extension. Are you kidding me? What? They're going to pay him another.
Forget that. They want to tack on two more years to his current deal. One hundred and fifty million dollars on top of that.
He's in the midst right now. Just a second year, year number two of a four year contract paying him two hundred and twenty million dollars. What?
Now, I get it. There's a lot of money in the NBA. I'm not bemoaning what these guys make, the cash that they bring in, that they generate. The money's there.
It has to get split up. But when I think about Devin Booker, I'm looking at a team that, well, they haven't won much with him. All right. And it takes a whole lot to have a successful team. But since they drafted him in 2015, it took him about four or five years to get to the postseason. They didn't go to the postseason this past year.
OK. I don't look at Devin Booker as being the best player on a championship team. And we got a lot of dudes who get paid like big time superstars. Devin Booker seemingly has the talent to get you over the hump.
We just haven't seen it. He can score on a good team. He can score on a bad team. But to me, he doesn't come across as the the ultimate finisher.
He doesn't come across to me as a guy that can just take you over the hump. He hasn't done it yet. And so Brian Windhorst broke the news about what we might see with Devin Booker. Listen to what he had to say about a possible extension. Well, Devin Booker was active in their head coaching search. He was active in some of their other decisions, including Kevin Durant trade. And I think he will be active in signing a two year record extension. Bobby, I think it's something like one hundred fifty two for one fifty one fifty.
Come on, two for one fifty. If you're the Suns. Why does Devin Booker? Hey, I know why he's getting the money. But why would you let him have input on some of the roster decisions?
Apparently, that's what we got. They were consulting with Devin Booker when it came down to where Kevin Durant goes. They were consulting with Devin Booker when it came down to, well, what do we need to get back? And I say to myself, what the heck has Devin Booker done to deserve that type of clout inside of the organization? I mean, we got a lot of NBA players that just drive their teams right into the toilet. Giannis Atetokounmpo, God bless him. The guy won a championship with the Milwaukee Bucks. Why did they let him select the coach?
You want him to have input, but you don't want him to necessarily be able to hang the decision, you know, on his neck, on his mantle. You don't want that. He wanted to get rid of Drew Holliday and bring in Damian Lillard. Those two guys haven't connected or meshed and this is prior to the injury.
Why would you do such a thing? NBA teams. It's crazy. We can always talk about players running the league. A lot of these owners, these ownership groups, they let them. Matt Ishbia came into the Phoenix Suns and spent all his money bringing in Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal and ruining the depth on the team.
And now you're going to let the guy who stayed, the guy who predated you, you're going to let him go out there and make decisions? Sounds like a bad deal if you ask me. This is a team, the Phoenix Suns, they are just in the toilet. They're going to be there for quite a while. They can bring in all the Mark Williams that they want. They can draft all the Giants out of Duke. The Suns are going to stink for a few years.
And it's the decisions of Matt Ishbia and even allowing somebody like Devin Booker to now be able to put in his two cents. Bad idea. Bad idea. Not as bad as firing Masai Ujuri, but a bad idea to let a player do this.
Batra, what are your thoughts? The guy's in the middle of a four-year contract and they just want to add on two years? He'd be around on the team until 2030.
He's already 28 years old today. The only benefit I would see in extending Devin Booker now is if you're actually going to bottom out and try to tank. Adding these two years, maybe front-load the contract now so that maybe when he's 30, 32 you can have another little bit more cap to pick up another max player. But it doesn't seem like they have a real focus. I thought they were going to tank once they traded KD. They traded for Mark Williams, I feel like they didn't need it all. And then they're moving first round picks for no reason.
Yeah, well I don't think they're going to... typically that money is spread out throughout the course of the deal. So I don't think there's a benefit outside of, hey, you know what? We like you. Thank you so much. You've been here so long.
I just got here and it's been fun working with you. And yeah, the other guys, they didn't want to be here or they didn't listen and so we shipped them out. But yeah, you, we're going to reward you by giving you the contract extension that you deserve, that you're eligible for. I guess the Phoenix Suns feel that, oh my God, if we don't offer him this money now, Devin Booker might leave us.
Devin Booker might just, he might just jet. And in what position does that leave them in besides joining a lot of these teams and looking absolutely ridiculous? I mean, over the past couple of days, hey Botch, let's name some dumb teams. Now that the draft is dumb, Toronto Raptors, stupid. They got rid of Masai Wajuri the day after the draft, after he made draft selections.
Your turn. Name a stupid NBA team. New Orleans Pelicans traded their own first round pick unprotected next year. Okay, I give you another team.
Here we go. We're going team for team, stupid team. Brooklyn Nets, five first round selections of a bunch of guards that are going to do what?
We don't know. The Brooklyn Nets are a stupid team. Your turn. Go ahead. Outstupid me.
Okay, there's a lot of them. Let's go Memphis. I still don't like what they're doing.
What the heck is that? What, keeping Ja Morant? Keeping Ja Morant one. You traded Desmond Bain, your best player, unless you look at Jaren Jackson.
On top of that, I don't think they did anything good in the draft. Touché. Oh man, this is tough now.
We got to get to teams that are actively outstupiding each other. Oh man. Hey, I named them already. I'm going to say it again.
Why the hell not? The New York Knicks, you actually have success with a head coach. The most success you've had in 25 years. And what do you do? You fire them.
You get rid of them. There's nothing more stupid than that. Oh yeah, by the way, the New York Knicks fired that coach. They had no plan to bring in a new one. They still don't have a coach.
They're interviewing people. They're going down the list. The New York Knicks are stupid. Are there any other dumb teams?
I think those might be the top. Are we missing anybody? Depends how you look on the Blazers, taking Hanson Yang in the first round, who's projected to be, you know, a mid-second round pick. Ah, that's projections.
We have to look at actions, right? Like, there's no doubt what the Knicks did is dumb. I mean, the Raptors, what they did is pretty stupid. The Phoenix Suns, I'm sorry.
I mean, this whole situation from day one with bringing in all the superstars and putting me and you on the bench, it's just, it's just horrific. It is. You forgot about Denver.
Oh my God. Oh, Denver? Oh, oh, uh, Kroenke?
Yeah. And didn't make a pick either. How do you stand in front of the press, the media, and without prompt, just talk about trading, potentially trading, your best player? Nobody asked you. Like, you're not sitting in a board meeting. This guy, Kroenke, the son of Kroenke, runs the team, the president of the team. Must be nice when your dad owns a team and you get to run it. One of his teams that he owns.
That's nice. Why are you standing in front of the media and saying, oh yeah, well, you know, the way the finances go, we may have to get rid of Jokic one day. I hope that's not the case.
I'm like, bro, why would you say that? Like there are horror stories going on all over the NBA. We just saw what happened with Luka Doncic. Why are you bringing that up? We see the Boston Celtics ripping their team up because they're probably not going to compete due to injury. And now they have the offload salary.
Sometimes you just don't open Pandora's box. Not publicly, at least. It's always fun when you get to watch the rich folks and their kids run teams.
That's that's fun or can be a pretty terrible and for a lot of cases. OK. New York Knicks run by a rich kid. Toronto Raptors.
No rich kid involved. Just a giant corporation. Matt Ishby.
Oh, he got a brother, too. I don't know. They self-made billionaires in a financial space. What do I know? Shout out to all the stupid teams. They give me something to laugh about. They give me something to talk about right here on the radio.
Thank you very much. Yeah, a lot of dumb NBA teams. Shout out to Vivek Renadive. Brilliant businessman. Not the smartest of NBA owners. Anyway, NBA draft is done. Devin Booker likely to get a contract extension.
Good for him. Masai Wajiri has gotten a boot and Ace Bailey is going to show up, presumably to play basketball for the Utah Jazz. The Jazz expected to start, you know, a little little rookie camp, summer league training camp next week. You might as well throw these players right into the fire. What are you waiting for?
Nothing. It's the J.R. sport re-show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. If I miss the dumb NBA team, feel free to call me up. 888-710-4ISN.
That's 888-710-4ISN. Who's the dumbest NBA team? What NBA team made a good decision over the draft? Who made a bad one?
Feel free to call me up. On the other side of the break, speaking of dumb decisions, I understand this one. I don't care.
As a matter of fact, there are two decisions. It's about adding more games to the sporting calendar. We know the NFL wants to do it.
It would be impossible for the NBA to do it. The players want to play less games. But the NHL, they're adding more hockey to the regular season. I'll explain and then we'll hear from their commissioner, Gary Bettman, as well. Happy Friday. I'm going to talk some more on the other side of the break. Why they added more sports, we'll get into it. This is the JR Sport Reshow on the Infinity Sports Network.
