So if you're out there getting that Uber money, Good. You delivering and dropping stuff off? Good. You're in the back cooking and chopping stuff up, good, get that money. Do cleaning up and constructing?
Good. I'm here with you. You holding it down? You keep on holding it down. Keep your head up.
All right, if you want to call me, you can do that too. Phone number works, it's connected, here it is. eight eight eight seven ten four I S N That's eight eight eight. 710. four I S.
N. You can find me online or on the internet. where people say crazy things to Caitlin Clark. They disrespect the owners of the uh the cults because they're women. And people just do wild things on the internet.
But I'm there too. Nothing, not doing anything too wild. I am at. JR Sport Brief. That's at JR Sport Brief everywhere on the internet.
As I will only be here for one more hour, Then I would be told to shut up and leave. At the end of the show, as we do every night, We'll talk about a few things that took place this day in sports history. And then I gotta unfortunately update you on Another NFL legend. Just had to deal with a health issue. That is Barry Sanders.
We'll do that. Uh in the next break. As it stands right now. In Indianapolis, Indiana, The pacers and Thunder are playing it close. Twenty Seven.
To twenty-five The Pacers lead The Oklahoma City Thunder. Right now, this minute, this second, Miles Turner leading the way for the Pacers with six. Siakam has six. And in Jalen Williams, wow, he has ten points. And apparently, I know Shea Gilgas Alexander, he only had 24 points in the last game.
had a quiet start. Right now another quiet start. It's about three minutes to go here in the first quarter. Shagyogis Alexander only has Two points. On three attempts.
I think we all know at some point in time. He is going to go out there and wake up. It's now 27-26, Pacers to OKC.
So. Uh at least Uh the Pacers aren't playing catch up.
Now, something that they've had to do throughout the course of this series is just chase and chase and chase. OKC, and even in their two victories, come from behind victories in the first game. We saw Halliburton have to knock down a game-winning shot. There's a whole lot going on. Even uh Speaking of Caitlin Clark, she's in attendance with her teammates.
I see Aaliyah Boston sitting there right there with her. Watching this NBA Finals matchup. and they will be in action, including Caitlin Clark, back in action to morrow against the New York Liberty, Following her quadriceps strain. Let's talk about the game going on right now. I told you, Shea Gilgas Alexander.
with a slow start. This is kind of crazy. I want you to hear him. This is before the game. A Shake Yogis Alexander earlier in the day, of course.
He said, you know what? I'm actually enjoying. going back and forth and up and down the court, with the Indiana Pacers. Listen to what he said. We play pretty fast ourselves, so it hasn't been too much in of an adjustment period.
Um it's been pretty comfortable. Um but yeah they do play fast and it's been fun.
Well, not not so much right now. They're trying to Come back and win this game if OKC loses. The Pacers will have a 3-1 lead, and at that point in time, I'd say 85% curtains, I'd say. Like, I still think, given the, I don't want to say even talent discrepancy, we see how close they're playing right now, we've seen the comebacks. But if the Pacers go up 3-1, I would certainly take them and pick them to win the series.
But I think more so than other teams. The Thunder would have a good chance to bounce back to win. Ray, what do you think? Mm. I'm not a hundred percent sure.
I I just feel like in this entirety, in this series. There's a lot of talk. There's a lot of great posture in these post-game pressers, but I think a lot of these young guys are. kinda scared and they're just trying to say the right thing so that they don't look scared in the media. Yeah, I think they're susceptible.
Well, both teams on going on runs because they are young. And so that's why that's why I feel like if the Pacers do take a 3-1 lead, I would then at that point favor them to win it. But I do think that OKC, if there would be a team, I think they could. Run three straight, I really do. But I'm concerned about them trying to match wits with Indiana.
I don't think, yeah, they play fast, but I don't think that playing fast is the right way. In fact, like you mentioned about Hartenstein, I think they need to get into more of a half-court game. I know that sounds ridiculous in 2025, but as much of a half-court game that you can possibly play in this version of the NBA, they need to lean into that because I believe as you keep running up the pace and trying to keep up with these guys, that's how you lead to those fourth-quarter issues that we've seen throughout the series. Yeah, and I mean, when you have a guy like Shake Yogis Alexander, of course, you don't want to get into a space where it's just. He has the ball and everybody's standing around watching him.
But they can certainly take advantage of his skill set as a one-on-one player and somebody who can go. To the free throw line. I mean, the way this game is going, you never know, especially in this era of basketball. It's so many ups and downs and ebbs and flows. But it appears that they're gonna play this one close.
And yeah, it may come down to a Shake Yogis Alexander shot, or maybe Halliburton. Having to save the day again. We'll keep you up to date as this game continues on. As it stands right now, Indiana leads 31-30. In the first quarter, with about a minute left.
So if you're looking for defense, Uh so far? We we don't. We don't have none. None. Who knows?
Maybe it'll end up like what we've seen in the Stanley Cup finals. And thank you so much to our guest earlier in the show, Sean McIndoo, for joining us from the Athletic. He covers all things hockey. That match, that game last night, Was just nutty. And we got to wait until tomorrow before we see game five between the Oilers and the Panthers.
The Panthers started off with a three-goal lead. the Oilers end up bouncing back. They ultimately end up winning in overtime with Leon Dreisidal goal. And they are scoring. This is what all these leagues wanted.
Offense, offense, offense. And look, come on, even in baseball. I guess this was pretty. Yeah, pre uh Mark McGuire, known for drugs. It was Greg Maddox with Tom Glavin Chicks.
Dig The long ball, They were genius. And now the guys aren't even on drugs and they're just smacking home runs, okay? Everybody wants offense. Every league wants offense. Nobody wants to just stand around and watch nothing.
I was fond with defense. I appreciated it. made things a little bit more challenging, but I guess people have the attention spans of gnats. We just gotta have folks running up and down the court. We got to have home runs all day.
Thank God we slowed down on everybody thinking it's Steph Curry launching them stupid threes. Am I missing anything, Ray? Did I miss a sport? Oh, the NFL? Just.
Just uh arcade style can't touch anybody. Yeah, pretty much. We we've got to a place where every game looks like Tech Mobile from our childhood. A lot of points up and down the field, etcetera. None of these games resemble what we know the game to be, but I guess you know people like sports what chicks dig High scores?
Tricks dig hot. Is that on the T-shirt now, too? I guess I'll have to trademark that. Yeah, go for it, make some money. Yeah, I I wouldn't mind every now and then a I don't know.
A 12-3 football game, but those days. Are long gone. And then, you know, I didn't think about this as well. When you think about the gambling aspect to sports nowadays, too. It behooves everybody.
to have scores up on on the board. It behooves everybody from the leagues To the teams? And of course the players, they want in their contracts, but if if you want to gamble, There's more of an opportunity if there's more going on, if there are more possessions, if there are more scores.
So. We are not going backwards. It it's kind of crazy. an NBA Finals game, and and maybe not so, we're so far removed from it, but Thirty four, thirty two in the first quarter?
Well Pacers by the way, like Who's playing defense? Are they playing? Ray, are they playing defense? They're trying, right? They're moving their feet, you know.
What's that phrase called? Moving them puppies. I'm seeing a lot of puppies moving, but it just seems like they're running up and down and not going side to side. Yeah, I just, I don't know. Hey, new era, new world.
Same thing in the NHL. last night in the Stanley Cup final and you gotta think about it too. These are the these teams, everybody playing right now. This is the best of the best. Like they are playing hard.
Like they are trying. We don't got teams that are out here just. you know, going through the motions, we got championships on the line. and nobody can go out here. And get a stop.
NBA finals, NHL finals. I mean, even last night. thinking about these these comebacks Come on, man. The Oilers were in an 0-3 hole. End up winning.
Five to four. It goes to overtime. I want you to listen to Edmonton head coach Chris Nodblock. This is what he had to say about their O three hole in their comeback.
Well, I knew we could come back. It's not easy to, but I know with the group that we have, we can do it. Um we just got a Dig in and win a few more battles and play a little bit smarter. and the guys didn't quit. Oh, yeah, you can do a hat.
Reminds me of Terrible movie, Lil Nikki. You can do it. Yeah. Everybody can do it 'cause all anybody does is score. Like that, at every sport, there's always an opportunity at this point in time.
for a comeback. It's just There's no defense in anything at this point in time. Speaking of coming back, um Yeah. This guy, I don't think he's coming back. He's not coming back from anything.
Unfortunately, I think things might get worse before they get better. I'm referring to Antonio Brown. You know what I'm talking about, right? Oh, no, you don't. I want you to listen to this news clip.
From W B P F in Florida.
Well, right now, law enforcement in Miami-Dade County are looking for former NFL player Antonio Brown for an attempted murder charge. The Washington Post reports the charges from a shooting last month during a celebrity boxing event in Miami. Police briefly detained Brown after gunshots were fired at the event. He was also seen on video fighting with several people. Brown claims he was jumped by people trying to steal his jewelry.
According to the arrest warrant, witnesses told police he was the shooter. It also says the former football star will have to post a $10,000 bond and remain under arrest until trial. Oh, man. Oh.
Okay. Yeah, there's no bouncing back for Antonio Brown. No, that's I wasn't referring to the the NFL. The guy has not played in an NFL game. Since 2022.
There was definitely. Not going to be a bounce back. He actually turns 37 years old.
next month. And can't you even call it a bounce back? The guy's life has just been such a And everybody, most people, I know, life is a up. And life is a down. You're gonna get the good, you're gonna get the bad.
You're gonna get the yin and the yang, and people get it at different degrees and different levels. But I think in Antonio Brown's case, he has just been On a wild roller coaster ride.
So, to even say, is he going to bounce back? Bounce back to what? I hope he bounces into a place of of sanity and It's being a A decent human being. It seems like he has trouble doing that. I don't know.
The moral compass for that guy. Ray, you ever seen one of those movies where they bring out the compass? And they put it down, and there's like paranormal activity, and a compass is just going all over the damn place.
Sounds something like the mummy a little bit, but no, not in that regard. But I think when it comes to Antonio Brown, it's been a little bit of Santeria with his career. Yeah, man. His career. Forget his career.
His life. It's just all over the place. I mean, I I don't know. He's He is not Yeah. There.
And it sucks for him, it sucks for the people around him. I know he has a bunch of kids. Happy Almost Father's Day to everybody out there, too, by the way. All the dads. Ah, man.
Good luck to Antonio Brown. I hope we don't get no OJ Simpson. We're gonna need to see him on the highway. I hope he's not dragged out of a house, out of a club. I hope he doesn't go missing.
I I just I hope the best for that man. Being an NFL player is tough. Man, we've seen awful things. Junior Seow and To Marius Thomas. It can be bad, head injuries or something else.
And Antonio was just like this before he even got into the league. It's just bad all the way around. eight eight eight Seven ten four I S N is the phone number. That's 888. It's seven ten.
For ISN, speaking of football players and their health, earlier this week, We found out that Deion Sanders was dealing with. with an undisclosed health issue. We know about the clotting that he had in his legs. We've heard about the amputation of a couple of his toes and Man, they're just trying to keep Dion uh uh alive and keep him with his legs and his body and his a It's just And then we find out this week we don't even know what's going on. He says he'll tell us when he will.
There is another. NFL legend who dealt with a health scare And man, no, I don't want to deal with a health scare, period. This one you you don't want could have been uh Over for this guy. I'm going to tell you what athlete. is lucky to still be here.
He is one of the greatest that has ever picked up a football, and ran with it. It's the JR Sport Re Show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. We'll take a break. We'll talk about this NFL legend who thank God is still here. We'll talk about a few things that took place this day in sports history, and of course, I'll give you an update.
on the score between the Indiana Pacers and the Oklahoma City Thunder. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief Show on the Infinity Sports Network. It is the JR Sport Brief Show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. 888-710-4ISN. That's 888-710-4 A four I S.
N NBA playoffs are rolling on. Staring at game. Number four. Indiana leads. forty five forty four.
Oh, no, they don't. 46 to 45, about halfway through here. in the second quarter. Yeah, it ain't no defense. Yeah, you can You can throw the idea of defense completely on out of The window.
You know, one thing that I I do want to point out. before I unfortunately uh talk to you about the great Barry Sanders. It's been a lot of conversations about who's watching this NBA Finals and who's not paying attention. And we have moved into a space where there's so much criticism about the NBA. Who's watching the NBA Finals and who's not watching?
It is just. Can can we chill? Like, there's so many things, and so many ways, and so many options. Like, TV ratings are down. for just about everybody and everything except for the NFL.
They basically control Sundays here in America, have Sundays on lock. You think about culturally in the United States of America, it is built, the weak is built. around the NFL. It's crazy. Like you go to other countries, everybody is soccer crazy, they're killing guys over soccer and I mean, people are fighting sometimes, and every now and then, unfortunately, somebody's dying here, but Everything is built around the NFL.
I don't think anything else is. Kind of Just exempt? And so there's a lot being made about how many people are watching this current NBA Finals. You think about the worst finals ever viewed, it was the pandemic. When the Lakers beat the heat, nobody was expecting that in October.
That series only averaged seven point seven. million people watching. And if you start thinking about how many folks are checking in, Over the past few years. The numbers are low. When the Spurs beat the Pistons in 2005, Okay, you could say those are two boring teams.
It was no Lakers sticking around, and no Michael Jordan was gone, long gone by then. Only 12 million people watch that. In 2022, When the warriors beat the Celtics, 12 million people watch that series. When the nuggets beat the heat with yokich who's as exciting as a slice of bread. Only 11 million people watch that.
Last year The Celtics beat the Mavericks. 11 million people watched that series. When the Bucks beat the Suns. 10 million people watched that series. If we go back, people didn't like the Spurs.
The Spurs beat the Nets. There was nothing exciting about that. They whooped their ass. Ten million people watched. Those are old series.
If we go back. to the nineties. The highest rated series. had Michael Jordan in it. 98, when we thought it was going to be over for Michael?
Well, it was over for Byron Russell. The average viewership was twenty nine million. 1993, when the Bulls beat the Suns, average viewership was twenty Seven. No yin. Like, I know the NBA is going back to uh NBC.
We ain't going back to those numbers with thirty million people in America. are sitting down and you're going to have a rating that high. like them days are over. Like there ha we have so many more people are scanning and sitting around on Facebook and TikTok and Instagram and They're looking at bits and pieces of the game. Mean in nineteen ninety eight there was there wasn't nothing to look at.
There was no World Wide Web. I mean, there was, but it was in its infancy. There was no cell phone to open up. You sure as hell were not watching a basketball game. on your computer.
Like, none of this existed. And so I just. I'm tired of everybody talking about the ratings. because the ratings for everything are down. Let's talk about the ratings for cable, period.
Let's talk about the cable business. Flat. And Harriet Everything. is down. Down, down, down.
Ray, what do you think, man? Like, I think ratings are down. Ratings are everything is down. It's just a matter of people still being stuck in one way of doing things. It's almost like a generational tug-of-war.
We like television. We grew up on television. We watched the finals, the Super Bowl, everything on a television. Whereas people around 25 and younger, they're watching it on their tablets, they're watching it on their iPhones, so on and so forth. And it's difficult to properly tabulate on these streaming services how many people are watching these games.
So the people like us, we hold on to ratings because that kinda, for us, that shows us where the interest lies because it's measurable. We don't want to hear about social media hits and things of that nature. We want to know how many people sat down and watched the games. And the only way to really properly or accurately measure that is by way of people watching the TV. Until we all embrace the streaming aspect of this world that we live in, it's always going to be that tug of war.
Yeah, it's. is dumb at this point in time. I mean, as it stands right now, Game Three of the NBA Finals averaged nine million viewers.
Okay, that is that's a third. just about of the amount of folks who was sitting down watching Michael Jordan in the nineties. But there was nothing else to watch in the 90s. And so to start comparing it. Uh is is just not fair.
Because, like Ray, like you said, I don't know. You don't need to sit down for three hours. I don't think a. I don't think somebody eighteen a big basketball fan Are they sitting down and watching the game for three hours? I don't I don't think so.
I think they especially now when you can go on YouTube and they have certain YouTube channels that cut up the game in a way where you could get the feeling of watching the game and you could do it all in, let's say, 14 minutes. And they give you all of the keynote moments of the game, all of the big runs, the big fouls, the technical fouls, everything in about 14 minutes.
So, who wants you to have 14 minutes or you can have two and a half hours? Most kids today are going to take that 14-minute video. I'm not a fan. I can go to the NBA app. I can go to the Major League Baseball app.
And I want to and I this is uh I want to read. Let me see the box score. Let me read a summary And that's all I want. You know, if you have highlights, they're great. Give me that.
Everything is in story format. Everything is Instagrammable. I'm in the NBA app, and I'm like, okay, I just want to look at the box score. And I want to see the highlights. Why do I got to tap through 20 million different things?
But that's how things are right now. And so if I'm used to just tapping away on my phone, Like the NBA, MLB, NFL, it's just like, yeah, here's the highlights. And man, you can go on Twitter. You can follow an account. You don't gotta watch the game.
Everybody is posting the highlights, so their highlights are there in two seconds after they happen. And um it it's it's different.
So all this ratings, yeah. People are always going to think about the ratings, big business and and and the the the cost of the advertising, all of that, I get it. But there is zero way. And maybe one day we will. But when you have so many different ways to consume, Twitter X Facebook Reddit.
All these website, like We might have just as many people with eyeballs. on it. Sure, nine million people watched on on ABC. How many people really consume the game. I'd venture to say it may not be 30 million people.
But man, it might be in that that twenty plus mil range. Wild stuff, anyway. That was the argument Adam Silver was making, by the way, when people were complaining about the TV numbers. He was saying, but if you look at our digital stats, via social media, we're one of the strongest, if not the strongest, support in the world. Correct.
Correct. He's not lying. He's not lying. NBA has always been ahead of the curve when it comes to marketing and embracing new technologies. He's honest.
People are always going to find. uh something to go out here. and complain about. It's it's just the way it is. We got our guy, Dexter Henry, in here tonight on the updates.
Dex, man, what do you think about people. beating people up about all these uh These ratings and numbers. Yeah, I think it's a little nonsensical, like what you guys were kind of pointing out. I just think if you're looking solely at ratings, You're looking at it from a very old school approach. That's not the world we live in, right?
People consume things in different ways, people have eyeballs on things in different ways.
So If you what you said, JR, you talking about how whether you like it or not. You're like, hey. There's a lot of different ways to consume the game through Twitter, through Reddit, TikTok, whatever it is. You got to look at those metrics. More.
You got to combine it to me. You got to look at the ratings. You also got to look at that. It can't solely be the ratings as your only indicator in 2025 of how successful any sports league is. That's just not the way the world is.
That's not the way the world works anymore.
So I just think it's a little archaic in your thinking to just focus on ratings. Yeah. I th I think people people want to crap on the NBA will utilize the the ratings as a way to try to weaponize the popularity of the game. That's Yeah, and it's, you know what, man, the people who crap on the NBA, it always tires me. I'm a big NBA fan, but like, if you don't like the NBA, cool.
That's fine. You don't see this happen in other leagues. The NBA always gets compared to the NFL. The NFL does this. It's not the NFL.
It'll never be the NFL because it doesn't have the scarcity of the NFL. It can't be. It's its own thing. It's globally popular. That's not even close.
That's a great point that Ray brought up. It's not soccer, but it's right after that. In terms of the global sports, huh? Yeah, it's growing. I mean, damn it, the NFL is trying to grow outside of the United States of America.
The game of basketball. Is already there. And look, the NBA is like: hey, we want to figure out a way to have our own league. In Europe, so. Yeah, talk about the ratings.
The NBA is making billions of dollars. They may not be clocking in at 20 bill. Like the NFL is, but they are trying to make their way through. It's the JR Sport Re Show here with you, coast to coast, on the Infinity Sports Network. We come back.
We'll talk about Barry Sanders, an unfortunate health incident. Thank God he's still here. We'll talk about a few things that took place this day in sports history. But to get an update on the NBA Finals and everything else in the world of sports, it's my main man. It is Dexter Henry.
It is the JR Sport Brief Show here on the Infiniti. Sports Network. Thank you so much to Dexter Henry for coming through, hitting us up. With another A Sports Update. Man, oh man This game is going to go down to the Y.
Of course, it is. Hopefully, it does. Seems like every time somebody gets close, somebody runs away. The Oklahoma City Thunder, they have taken a lead against the Pacers, 53. to fifty Shea Gilgas Alexander.
I told you with that slow start, he picked it up 12 points. Jalen Williams with 14. Alex Carusa with 11 points off the bench. Pascal Siakam has twelve. And for all the talk about Tyrese Halliburton, Is he a star, a superstar?
He doesn't care, he doesn't listen to people, too many talking heads. Halliburton with three points here in the first half. Five assists. one or four from the field. He's a passer, man, I d What we've seen is a lot.
You'll have a eh game on the scoring side. And then he'll rip your heart out. At the end of the game. We we've seen this all play off, Siri, so I wouldn't be too concerned about Tyrese Halliburton. When the going gets tough, we've seen what the hell he does.
He puts you down.
Okay. But that's looking into the future. I cannot do that. I don't know anybody. who could look into the future, and if they really could, they'd be very, very wealthy.
But anyway, It's easy to look in the past. We have that on record. Matter of fact, this is the end of the show, and as I do every single show. It's time to take a look at a few things that took place this day. in sports History.
Fight back. Back, back, back. Back in the days when I wish I'm not a kid anymore, but some days I sit and wish I was a kid again. It's time for this day in sports history. See, back in those days, we had radio and you couldn't see anything and it was primitive and lousy and we liked it.
The JR Sport Brief Show. I wish I was 50 years younger and I'd kick your ass. It is the JR Sport Brief Show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. It is, oh damn, I just realized. It is Friday the 13th.
2025. I don't care about no superstitions. I'm going to find me a ladder to walk under. Anyway, June 13th. 1989.
The pistons, they swept the Lakers who were Would hurt real bad, by the way. They swept them four games. They won the clincher, 105 to 97. Joe Dumars was named finals MVP. Take a listen to the final call.
What's good? One of the last two That'll do it. World champions. Yeah, it took a while to get there, didn't it, right? Hey, June 13th, 1997.
We talked about ratings. The Chicago Bulls. beat the Utah Jazz in six games. Oh, excuse me. Oh, yeah, six games.
They beat him in that final game, 90 to 86. You might remember this. Michael Jordan put his trust in the teammate. He passed the ball to Steve Kerr. Who knocked down what would ultimately be the game winner?
Listen. Scott Clock is running down Michael Watson. He's got it against Russell. He has to give it up to the curve from ABB. Steve Truman.
The Bulls have the two-point lead with five seconds left. Man, Steve Kerr has lifted himself up. Quite a life. Steve Kerr has like rings on rings on rings on rings. He got five rings as a player.
What has he got? Another four rings as a coach? He's just. He's Lord of the Rings, I guess. Good for Steve Kerr.
He's seen a lot of great basketball. Good for him. He's a great shooter, too, by the way. Hey, June 13th, 2002. Awesome shooter.
Hey, we got to go to some hockey. The Red Wings, they beat the Hurricanes 3-1 for a 4-1. Stanley Cup victory. Listen to the people in Detroit go wild. The Detract Red Wings, their third cup in six years.
The tenth. That they have won in their history. Scotty Bowen will get his ninth as a coach. Dominic Kaisik Robentai will win their first. The Detroit Red Wings have won the 2002 Stanley Cup.
Yeah, let's see if Florida or Edmonton does it this year. June 13th, 2012, Matt Kane. He pitched the 22nd perfect game in Major League Baseball history. San Francisco beat the Astros 10-0. He went out there and struck out 14 in the process.
Let's listen to the final pitch and call. On the ground areas. From deep third. Got him, and that's a perfect game. And the Giants mobbing that came on the pitcher's mound in June 13, 2014.
The LA Kings beat the New York Rangers in the Stanley Cup finals. They beat them in five games. It sucked for Rangers fans, not if you're a Kings fan. They beat them 3-2 in the finale. Starting back up with a nose, Martinez in a three on two.
Clifford gave it across. It's held in a shot at Saint Premax. Yeah, this is championship season, folks. June 13th. Let's move back to the Hardwood 2017 The Golden State Warriors.
Beat the Cavaliers four games to one.
So when? The championship. I guess it's easy to do when you have Kevin Durant as the finals MVP and Steph Curry on the other side. Listen to this. And now Golden State.
Come tribal and out. There it is, redemption for Golden State. One of the great payoff runs of all time is complete. The Warriors are NBA champions again. Yeah, having Kevin Durant doesn't hurt at all.
How about this one?
Now Kevin Durant went down and the other team won. And this Clay Thompson went down too. 2019, June 13th. The Raptors. They beat the Warriors to clause out their series 114.
