Hour 1 l The Knicks Are Still Alive

We're getting ready to pull up on the NBA Finals. The Knicks put a hold on the Pacers yesterday, but we're still getting close to the NBA Finals. The NHL Stanley Cup Finals.

It's all set. And today for the first time in I don't know, two months. There's no basketball, no NBA basketball. There's no hockey.

What are we to do? Well, we're going to talk sports. We're going to talk about what's in front of us. We're going to talk about the Knicks and the Pacers. We're going to be joined by Eddie White. Covers the Indiana Pacers overtime show on 1070.

The fan. We're going to talk basketball because oh my goodness. You thought Zion Williamson's biggest problems were his waistline. This man is facing some serious, serious allegations uh. The sexual allegations.

This is not not good. We're going to be joined by Sean Powell who covers all things NBA for nba.com. We'll talk about the Stanley Cup Finals. We got the Edmonton Oilers and the Florida Panthers for the the second year in a row. Now we got NFL news as well. It looks like we might have a few players who are going to be moving. I don't want to say the greener pastures because you know what they say about the grass.

They ain't always green on the other side. Kyle Pitts might be done here in Atlanta Georgia. Bryce Huff he just got to the Philadelphia Eagles last year.

He might already be on the move to a familiar face in San Francisco. Man there's so much to get into. We got the SEC and the the big 12. They got beef now. A bunch of NFL players who still didn't show up to work this week. We got people in sport.

Cut? Did anybody have an object thrown at them yesterday after the Knicks stayed alive against the Pacers? I did not hear anything in terms of that but I did see that there was a couple guys boxing out in the street.

Oh boy geez. Nick fans don't know how to win because they, well a good majority of Nick fans have never seen them win. They were, were they boxing a Pacers fan or they boxing each other? Yeah so we had, I'll pull up the video just to confirm but I think it was a guy on a Jalen Brunson jersey against someone in a Tyrese Halliburton jersey and this was like legit.

They had the gloves and like those padded helmets with a whole crowd around them, cameras everywhere. So we got we got more basketball. Thank you so much to the New York Knicks because if the Knicks didn't beat the Pacers yesterday we'd be stuck with with a whole lot of nothing until next week. We'd have to wait for the Pacers and the Thunder but look the more basketball the better. I thought that the New York Knicks were going to take the Indiana Pacers to seven games. Right now they're going to six. They got to go ahead and beat them tomorrow night in Indiana and the hope for the New York Knicks is that they can return to Madison Square Garden before game seven and close this thing out early next week.

Meanwhile the Oklahoma City Thunder they just sit around and and wait. I'm pretty sure one of these guys one of the 15 guys on the roster is playing video games. One guy is stretching.

One guy is taking a nap. One guy is I don't know talking to five different girlfriends. I don't know. I don't know what these guys are doing but I know it's going to be a while until we see the Oklahoma City Thunder back out there playing basketball but the game that we saw last night this was this was different than a lot of the games in the series. The New York Knicks pretty much controlled this game from beginning until the end and every time it looked like Indiana might go on a little bit of a run the New York Knicks put a stop to it.

No mas. The final score in Madison Square Garden 1 11 to 94. Jalen Brunson said he has 32 points. We expect that from him. Carl Anthony Towns was listed as questionable. We were sitting right here on the air watching the game the game from our respective studios and he went out there had 24 points 13 rebounds.

There really wasn't a doubt that this man wasn't going to play with all the criticisms that he's received and people making fun of him and his voice. Carl Anthony Towns was going to go out there and he was going to play. The New York Knicks. Bridges chipped in 12 points 5 assists but you got to really give credit to the defense. The Pacers being held under 100 points. This is the team that gets up and down the court. This is the team that just gets the points.

Halliburton was stopped last night. 8 points for Tyrese Halliburton. What a fall off for a guy who just had a 31 point triple double. He's down to 8 points. The 2 of 7 shooting. He only got off 2 3-point shots.

Siakamat 15. They shot 40% from the field. Yeah. The Pacers went into Madison Square Garden and like a lot of people they got punched.

Literally. I mean people if you're not familiar there is an entire subway station underneath Madison Square Garden. The arena is the arena court is actually on like the 5th floor which is crazy. It's above ground but underneath the ground there's a lot of fighting. Nico is it still filthy and dirty and is it dangerous in Penn Station or they fixed it already?

Yeah I guess slowly but surely getting a little better but I wouldn't say it's great. I've seen many a fights in my day inside and outside gloves and no gloves clothes and no clothes. I think underneath Madison Square Garden it's like a whole city unfortunately you could see it all. The Pacers showed up and they got punched. They got punched like when I was growing up looking at the 80s and the 90s. They got punched in Madison Square Garden and last night Tyrese Halliburton the man who is leading the charge and at one point in time before the season ended he was voted by his own players.

Well his own contemporaries in the league as the most overrated he decided to take all of the blame upon himself. Rough night for me. I got to be better setting the tone getting downhill.

You know I feel like I didn't do a great job of that but I'll watch the film. There were some different things they did defensively but for the most part I think their base stuff was the same. They picked up the pressure a little bit more tried to apply more as the game went on.

Yeah they were all up in their face. The New York Knicks didn't allow this man to breathe at all. The Knicks kept their foot on their neck. Rick Carlisle the head coach of the Indian Pacers he said yeah we sucked at the beginning of the game. To start the game we just didn't have the right level of force the right level of attitude necessary you know in this environment and so you know it was a it was a bad start we never had a lead in the game and so you know there was there were a multitude of things that were going wrong and there were time there were stretches during the game where we got a little bit of traction but but never enough. Listen yeah they never got enough the New York Knicks well Tom Thibodeau and these Knicks are known for their defense right you bring in OG Ananoba you bring in uh Mikhail Bridges you got Mitchell Robinson you're expecting a good defensive showing especially when Jalen Brunson and Carl Anthony Towns they're not necessarily the strongest defenders.

Miles McBride he got there and he decided to talk about what the heck they were able to do on defense. I mean uh it started with a point of attack with Mikhail um just picking up making things hard um and then everybody just talking communicating a lot more and I feel like we just had an edge to us tonight. New York Knicks had an edge and Tom Thibodeau oh my goodness this this game I don't want to say it was uh it was an anomaly but Tom Thibodeau even went to the bench last night like he's calling on guys that you don't expect to see I mean Landry Shammet he went and played 14 minutes a whopping 14 minutes he had five points he knocked down a three he was playing defense he was forcing turnovers like he was like man if I'm in the game I'm gonna get what I can get I'm gonna get mines. The Knicks fans at the end of the game I was like this is uh this is uh this is uh I was like this is uh kind of patronizing they were chanting Landry Shammet's name they were chanting Landry Shammet like he was the second coming they appreciate the guys off the bench nobody ever talks to Landry Shammet but they did last night they asked him about all the love that he received. I love New York I love these fans I see how they you know ride the wave with us the highs the lows um and so it's just important for me I just want to give everything I got to them that's you know so I appreciate it um we got more to do. Oh yeah okay all right I think that's the most I've ever heard of Landry Shammet all season long and so now the New York Knicks I'm sure they have already packed their bags I'm pretty sure they're already in Indianapolis I'm sure they're used to travel I'm sure they're tired of this and then hopefully in their case they gotta go ahead and fly back to New York and try to close out the series all this extra work because the New York Knicks decided to just choke in game one they choked and the New York Knicks they do stand a chance in bouncing back I still don't believe they're gonna win three straight I mean I believe that they could win in Indianapolis so anybody could win either one of these games it's tough it's tough to view and I thought the Knicks were gonna win in seven but not because they gotta win three straight this is an interesting series even if I think about tomorrow I say to myself damn I think the Knicks are gonna lose like what are the odds that Tyrese Halliburton shows up again and only drops eight points at home basically embarrassed in Madison Square Garden what are the odds that he goes to Indianapolis and I don't know Pat McAfee is sitting around and John Mellencamp is back I don't know anybody else from Indiana Indianapolis I don't know nobody and what are the odds that he goes out there and just lays an egg I don't feel good for the New York Knicks is lightning gonna strike twice and even if they go back to Madison Square Garden I'm still not feeling good I still think the Pacers are now going to advance and the New York Knicks could thank that game one loss hey Nico New York Knicks backs are still up against the wall tomorrow you got the New York Knicks walking away with a victory I think this is where the series comes to an end and I do want to say as a Knicks fan I think I all right obviously I'd rather them come back and win the series but if I know that they're not I'd rather lose tomorrow than have it be a game seven at the Garden why why why it's just so much more heartbreaking when you lose a game seven at home especially when it just happened last year to the exact same team oh man so what what do you what does that do what does that accomplish for you it just I'm gonna go into tomorrow night's game saying like obviously I want to win I'm a diehard Knicks fan like let's do it with the hopes that they can win the series but if they lose I won't be as upset as I would be if they were to win and then lose Monday oh man well at least you'll you'll never know right like you we won't know even after the fact you won't know because it'll be after the fact because because what's gonna happen is if they win Saturday I'm gonna wake up Monday with the belief that they're going to win so if they don't it's gonna be so heartbreaking whereas like I just said a moment ago I truly don't think the Knicks win tomorrow so it's kind of like oh I kind of just expected that oh boy okay well I hope the New York Knicks win tomorrow I hope the New York Knicks force a game seven and go ahead and win that but I do believe that the Indiana Pacers would be a better series to watch and I also don't think the New York if I got a bet tomorrow I'm putting my money on the Pacers I think it'll be a close game but I'm gonna put my money on the Pacers because I think they're gonna do what they have done this entire series which is run the New York Knicks up and down the court and I don't think the New York Knicks can keep up it's as simple as that unless a New York Nick not named Carl Anthony Towns or Jalen Brunson steps up and has a big offensive game unless Mikhail Bridges or OG Ananobi have big games I think the New York Knicks season is over tomorrow in Indianapolis I don't know what the hell they call that place now used to be Conseco Fieldhouse and Banker's Life Fieldhouse whatever the heck it is the Knicks season I believe ends tomorrow I hope not because quite frankly I want more basketball I do I do I do kind of sad about that Niko there's nothing on today what am I gonna watch the White Sox and the Orioles suck they're on right now yeah I mean the only thing I'm looking forward to here is the Mets at seven o'clock but they're playing the Rockies so that's not gonna be that fun of a game have the Rockies broke uh double digits and wins yet they have not they are still sitting at nine no oh my god oh geez I was like last time I looked they were at eight or nine and now they're still oh my god pathetic you know what it's Friday if you're out there on the road drive safe because you know I was saying the Rockies are nothing but just a massive car crack a car wreck car crash how could you be worse than what we saw last year with the White Sox how could you be worse and I see the athletics doesn't matter where the hell they at right now I think they're on a on a bad streak as well so look we got we got winners and we got losers do yourself a favor people it's Friday we're heading into the weekend here's some JR wisdom don't move anywhere don't be a loser when we come back on the other side hey we'll talk about a championship series that's set I'm gonna give you some updates on what we can expect and what we should look forward to with the Stanley Cup Finals it looks like Kyle Pitts here in Atlanta the tight end out of Florida former Gator looks like he might be moving on I think he should Bryce Huff the one-year rental dare I say for the Philadelphia Eagles looks like he be might be moving west Zion Williamson's career it looks like it is moving south and unfortunately for they got to make the games matter and we haven't even gotten to the trade deadline the all-star break will take place here in Atlanta Georgia in a little more than a month you're right we got baseball correct but how many people how many teams are really worth a damn to sit down and watch yeah I mean it just depends on what you're looking for if you're trying to find a team that's just fun and competitive I'm sure I can give you a couple but if you're talking like legit world series contenders five maybe six if even that yeah man who wants to watch the almost losers also rants I want to watch teams that are good or competitive you want to know you want to know how many angels games I'm going to watch this year Nico not a lot none none if I turn on the angels it'll be by accident okay I'm not watching any athletics games I am not I might watch the Rockies just to see how bad they are that's it man I'm dead I will watch the Yankees I will watch the Mets I will watch the Braves I will watch the the Dodgers maybe they're particular players that I want to see here and there I will only watch the Pittsburgh Pirates because of schemes I will watch the Florida Marlins to see which players they want to get rid of I will turn on the A's in the background just to feel bad for them because they play it up in Sacramento they should another left Oakland but what are you gonna do that's it I will I will pay attention to the Red Sox I will see the next time that Devers decides to go out there and be a complete jerk but that's about did I miss any teams in particular I mean the the Padres tend to always have some nonsense going on oh who the Padres yeah oh uh Fernando Tatis kid is gonna catch ringworm again from his drugs right that's what happened I don't know anyway thank you for reminding me that baseball is going on it baseball will have its time to shine a good good point but the NBA is coming to a close there's no basketball today there's none there's no NHL tonight because in this case we know we gotta wait to see what happens between the Knicks and the Pacers but in the NHL the Stanley Cup final it's set for the second consecutive year we're gonna have the Edmonton Oilers go out there and take on the Florida Panthers and this sounds very familiar it is it took place last year okay and what happened is the Panthers handled them four games to three oh yeah it was a close one really sucks to be that close to the Stanley Cup and lose it and so this time the Edmonton Oilers have an opportunity to bounce back so when their first Stanley Cup since 1990 and we know about the history of the Oilers I mean forget 1990 you think about the 80s between them and the Islanders they owned it they did and now they have a chance to bring the cup home they have a chance to get some sweet revenge outside of what we witnessed last year or based on what we saw last year they get a chance at some sweet revenge one of the best players in the game Connor McDavid he spoke yesterday he spoke last night and he said you know what last year went to a game seven we lost he says that we are better positioned to win this go-round listen to one of the best in the league it hasn't been as emotional you know we haven't had the highs and we haven't had the lows just kind of been steady you know and I think that that's put us in a good position you know those games can be emotionally draining we're not drained they're not drained good well damn it they they're in action or game one of the Stanley Cup finals is this upcoming Wednesday and Connor McDavid didn't stop there we know hockey and not just hockey but there's so many sports that are about tradition you gotta you were just talking about baseball a guy goes on a run next thing you know he has to change his underwear or maybe unfortunately he's wearing the same underwear or maybe he has a he has a nomar garciaparra-esque tick at the plate he gotta readjust his gloves maybe not so much now in 2025 we got a clock for that stuff can't step out the box but athletes are creatures of habit and one of the big big superstitions in a lot of sports you don't touch the championship until you win it and also you don't want to be bothered with the conference championship you don't want that give that to the owner let them put it away you just nobody wants to touch that you want the big one you want the Stanley Cup you want to take that thing home for a day you want to take it to your town you want to have a parade you want to take it to your town you want to have a parade you want the keeper of the cup to follow you around with the white gloves and a big fancy case last night Connor McDavid he did something that uh you typically don't do this man broke superstition of not touching the Campbell trophy the Campbell trophy goes to the winner of the western conference finals Connor McDavid is like uh yeah I'm gonna Connor McDavid is like uh yeah I don't have no issues I don't have no problems I'm gonna touch the trophy and then I plan on getting a cup this is what he had to say about that short and sweet pretty obvious I think don't touch it last year don't win touch it this year hopefully we win oh so he's look Nico is that his own personal reverse psychology is like uh what happened last year I gotta do something different yeah I guess so I mean I saw a video on twitter of like the fans that were at the watch party uh like were screaming in like anger that he touched the trophy so this was like a very big deal in Edmonton apparently oh they need to get over it come on now you are you superstitious I am but not to the extent where like it's like make or break like sure once in a while like if my team's doing well I obviously wash it but like I'll wear the same jersey to games like I try to go to maybe two or three mech games a month if I'm if they're winning every time I go I'll wear that same jersey again oh that's that's nice you have all the positive good juju nobody else then huh yeah I guess not yeah I get it wow yeah I'm not superstitious at all I don't care about that stuff if I see a ladder you know what I'm doing you're going right under it I'm going right through that ladder right underneath it right what happened you see a black cat what happened is that bad luck if you see a black cat uh people say that it is but I'm not I'm not too big into that same thing with like splitting the pole where like if you're walking down the street who cares I had a black cat in my house one time okay it did not care what is the other super snow umbrellas in the building right yeah apparently you can't like have your shoes on the table something like that well that's just bad manners but I will open up an umbrella inside whatever it is about a mirror what is it do you know is there something about a mirror too I haven't heard anything about a mirror I'm gonna look that up though hey Ack is there is there a superstition seven years bad luck if it breaks if if if you look in a mirror and it breaks no just if it breaks ah if a mirror breaks it's seven years battle okay yeah I don't break the mirror yeah I would break the you damn right I'd break it I'd break it I'd break all the mirrors I'd go into CVS and the they got a mirror section in there right I guess makeup or something I don't know I'd break all of them I know Bed Bath and does they got rid of all the Bed Bath and Beyonds right they shut all them things down yeah they're they're still online I guess you could order and have the UPS guy do that oh have the UPS guy break all them why not it's a shame that they closed Bed Bath and Beyond I guess we got Amazon I used to like going Bed Bath and Beyond was one of my favorite stores because I could get everything for my house and you can feel it and see it and now nothing now I gotta I gotta buy it from Amazon and hope that it's good and if not I'm screwed I send it back that's a waste of time anyway anyway I I got no issues with bad luck hey good luck to Connor McDavid and Edmondson hopefully things work out for them this go around and meanwhile we got the Florida Panthers they're going for their second straight cup it would be three but the Vegas Knights beat them that first time and so uh Leon Driscital he was talking about facing the panthers again and he is what he had to say we know what they're about we played them seven times uh and they're a good team we're we're a really good team as well uh obviously it's it's nice to get a shot at um you know getting some revenge but we're long ways from that so uh we'll enjoy this tonight and move on and get ready yeah we gotta wait for more hockey we gotta wait for hockey until Wednesday come on now NBA Finals won't even get started until the Rashawn hey JR thanks for taking my call absolutely what's going on hey not much um I guess I want to talk a little bit about this eastern conference finals but I guess it really don't matter because I believe first of all rubber wins this is still getting swept by the um thunder right are we in the greens in that I'm not gonna say I'm not gonna say swept okay okay you might win one game then right yeah the thunder the thunder tend to have their lapses so I wouldn't be surprised if they lost one yeah yeah maybe one game I say but I mean it's clearly they just they did they did better than these teams right so it's really going to be born in uh it's looking like it must be OKC in Indiana and the finals that's probably the first time in NBA finals history where two NBA teams in the finals playing each other that none of them have a professional baseball team that's a little bit of fact like I don't know if you noticed that right you know but is that a is that a fact is that true I believe I haven't googled it but I can't remember a final before but I guarantee it is though I know somebody's googling me right now but I can't remember the uh the two markets like this facing each other facing off in the front what what compelled you to even think of that I was in the bed the other night couldn't go to sleep and you know when you're wandering you'll be like man just wearing stuff going through your brain and everything and I don't I don't not not not when I can't go to sleep I'm not thinking about uh I'm not thinking about the the NBA and what MLB teams correlate to it not me yeah but I know can you agree this might be like the uh the lowest watch finals because of the markets to OKC in Indiana yeah I've I've thought about that certainly you think about the market size OKC it's not like they have fans all over the country uh you know we we got brands that are widely recognized and supported of course you go anywhere New Yorkers are everywhere Nick fans are all over the country it's a gigantic city of course New Yorkers are everywhere you think about legacy teams in America like the Cowboys the Lakers the Celtics yeah you know the Yankees these are these are teams that have fans all over the country I would say probably over the next 10 years because of Patrick Mahomes we're going to have Chiefs fans that are in every corner of the United States of America so yeah it happens so is this going to be the lowest watch finals maybe I'll tell you this much it'll be exciting it'll be intriguing is it going to be widely watched by the casual fan no because there's no Lebron there's no Steph Curry there's no I don't know there's no Giannis I mean these names Shay Gilgus Alexander and Tyrese Halliburton they would both be making their NBA finals debuts and let's be real they're they're not household names yeah they not at all not at all and um you've rung up a name you said Giannis right yes now I'm not a Nick fan at all but I kind of want to see that franchise win um yeah I mean they haven't won since 1973 I mean it's like a story franchise like they they should start winning soon but um for all of them to get Giannis how much would they have to give up like I don't know what they could I don't know if they have anything to give up like what you don't think so they don't have any picks what players are they sending back oh they don't
