It is the JR Sport Brief Show on the Infinity Sports Network. I'm coming to you live from Atlanta, Georgia. Thank you to everybody listening all over North America. A big shout out to everybody on the highways, the byways, the roads, the back roads, the streets. The streets. The streets sound, there's a negative connotation when it comes to the streets, right? Like when I say streets, you expect to find all types of things out there. Anyway, shout out to everybody driving out there on the streets too. Delivering and sending and driving home and shout out to the people driving home to people they don't want to look at, okay?

I can't relate. Anyway, I'll be here with you for one more hour. The show gets started every weekday, 6 p.m. Eastern, 3 Pacific. I'm in Atlanta, Georgia with people that I love.

And thank you, I'm being joined right now by our producer in New York City, Nico Scarlatos. Hey, about a 10 minute drive from Nico Scarlatos, the New York Knicks, they have a lead against the Indiana Pacers 54 to 45, 56 to 45. They're seconds away from the half. You know, the New York Knicks, they got their backs up against the wall. They are trying to avoid elimination at home. If the Pacers win, they go on to the NBA Finals to take on the Oklahoma City Thunder. Meanwhile, it's not looking good for a team in Dallas.

They're trying to avoid elimination. It's not looking good. In Dallas right now, the Stars are losing to the Oilers 3 to 1. They just finished up the first period.

And yeah, it looks like we're going to get a rematch in the Stanley Cup Finals between the Oilers and the Panthers. Hey, we got so much to do. At the end of the show, of course, we'll talk about a few things that took place this day in sports history. And we've already discussed a lot.

We talked some football and of course basketball, some hockey. I just told you, we just heard from Rob Manfred. He's like, yeah, I got nothing to do with Pete Rose.

Nothing. He can go to the Hall of Fame, ain't got nothing to do with me. Joe Flacco said mentor who? Them other quarterbacks, they don't got nothing to do with me.

Patrick Mahomes, he said, a flag football in the Olympics? Pass. That ain't got nothing to do with me. Hey, if you want something to do with this show, you can call me. Okay, here's the phone number.

You ready? 888-710-4ISN. That's 888-710-4ISN. You can find me online. I exist on the Internet. I am at JR Support Brief. So if you got Instagram, you can find me by searching JR Support Brief. You got Facebook. You can find me by searching JR Support Brief. You got Twitter X.

Guess what? It's JR Sport Brief. I'm even on TikTok.

I ain't doing no funny dances or nothing. Anyway, 888-710-4ISN. That's 888-710-4ISN. The game is at halftime right now in New York City in Madison Square Garden. The Knicks lead the Pacers 56-45. Jalen Brunston at this point in time right now, this minute, this second. He's leading the way for the Knicks with 14 points, three assists and three rebounds. Carl Anthony Towns, who was questionable heading into this game. Carl Anthony Towns has 17 points to go along with 10 rebounds.

He ain't grabbing his knee tonight. And I think it would have been crazy if he didn't play. New Yorkers would have ripped him to shreds. And then I mentioned earlier in the show that he has been ripped to shreds quite a bit. People make fun of his voice. They make fun of how Carl Anthony Towns talks during interviews and before games. And he can't catch a break. We'll have some fun with that.

I'll let you hear that before we get out of here this hour as well. Pascal Siakam with nine points. Tyrese Halliburton in a closeout game.

He's really going to have to turn it up. He only has four points and three assists. I mean, this dude had a triple double in the last game, a triple double with no turnovers.

We've never seen that in NBA history before, not the triple double that he had. As a matter of fact, let's listen to Jalen Brunson. This is prior to the game. Jalen Brunson in the last go round, the New York Knicks had 17 turnovers leading to 20 points. Jalen Brunson said, you know what we got to do?

It's real simple. Stop turning the damn ball over. As a team, we just need to tighten the screws when it comes to that, you know, just being aggressive. If there are aggressive turnovers, that'd be different. But past the turnovers is not us.

No, this time, man, they are winning. They have seven turnovers. The Knicks have scored 12 points off of their turnovers. The Pacers, the Pacers have six. Maybe the Knicks have learned something a little bit different here. 888-710-4ISN.

That's 888-710-4ISN. And Tom Thibodeau always criticized for not going into his bench. Today, he's already gone four deep. Landry Shamet, oh my goodness, getting nine minutes of play. Knocked down a big three that got the fans going. Josh Hart still off the bench with five points.

Miles McBride, three points. 888-710-4ISN. Mark is here calling from California on the JR Sportbreeze show. What's up, Mark? Hey, JR. The one guy you haven't spoke with is we traded five first round picks for Allen Crabbe.

How far back do you want to go, Mark? Listen, Mikel Bridges is not even worth five chicken sandwiches. Like, the dude is, he's the only Knick player.

I love Shamet. I love McBride, but he's the only Knick player every time he gets a ball in his hands. Man, I absolutely cringe. I don't know what he's going to do. He's just, he doesn't lay up the ball. He shoots these weird threes. Like, in game four, he shot three step-back threes in the corner and missed, like, all three of them. Like, it was just, I don't know who was calling that play.

Yeah. The problem with Tibs, JR, is that now that we have so many guys to play, it's going to become an issue because he's not going to know when to go back to his starters. Brunson sat the entire second half.

We were up 40-32. That's the time to bring Brunson in. Let's close him out. Let's blow him out.

But he wants to play the rest of his guys because he's a big believer in Delon Wright, who, by the way, is trash. Horrible. Well, thank you, Mark, for calling from New York or California. Appreciate you. Thanks so much.

No problem. And New Yorkers got to find something to complain about, right? The New York Knicks got their backs up against the wall. The New York Knicks could lose this game. Their season could be over.

They're currently winning at halftime, 56-45. Mikel Bridges has four points and it's just like, let's complain about him. Yeah, I know how many picks they traded him for. And when they got him from Brooklyn, we all knew he wasn't worth that many picks, but the Knicks needed to add somebody. Mikel Bridges was on a championship caliber team with the Phoenix Suns a few seasons ago. OK, he was not the number one option.

And we know that. OK, all of a sudden, then we flip the script and he's in Brooklyn, New York, playing with, what, Cam Johnson? And we know at that point in time, between them two, he was the number one option, pretty much.

Now he's on the New York Knicks team, where Jalen Brunson is running up and down the basketball court. He is numero uno. Carl Anthony Towns is number three. And Mikel Bridges, he has to fall in line basically alongside OGN and OB and then whatever Josh Hart has. And so without having a basketball in his hands all the time, it's like any time he has a bad game, people are going to criticize him about the amount of picks that they gave up to get him.

I mean, would they be in this spot if he didn't play defense? Look, Mikel Bridges, nobody's going to confuse him with, I don't know, Jalen Brunson? Nobody's going to confuse him with Anthony Edwards, who just had his own bad game.

He is what he is. And I remember him hounding the living hell out of Tatum and Brown before these guys got hurt. And I mean, we all know eventually, well, we knew that Brown was hurt.

We didn't know to what extent. And I'll give Mikel Bridges credit. It's like, damn, the New York Knicks are actually winning this basketball game right now. And you want to beat up on Tom Thibodeau and Mikel Bridges? Nico, he couldn't wait until after the game.

He wanted to do it at halftime in a game that they were winning. You would think that they were losing. Yeah. I mean, I'm sitting here thinking my mental state is going to take me down a dark path because I'm starting to get excited again based on what I'm seeing from this team in the first half. And this guy's calling in to complain.

Yeah. Well, typical New York Knicks fans, even though he called from California, just he needs a hug. Now, imagine what the hell he would sound like if the New York Knicks blow this game and lose. And I'm sure that's many New York Knicks fans.

Well, there was a team that actually lost last night, the Minnesota Timberwolves. We had this great conversation with Chris Hahn from the Star Tribune. Anthony Edwards pretty much said he was asked if he hurt if it hurt not moving forward. And I don't know if this is youthful enthusiasm. He said this doesn't hurt. It's exciting to move forward and grow. Listen to this. It's exciting.

I don't know. I don't know why people would think it would hurt. I mean, it's exciting for me. I'm 23.

I get to do it a whole bunch of times. I'm hurt more so for myself, for Mike. I came up short for Mike. Like I said, we tried last year. We couldn't get it. We tried again this year. We'll try again next year.

But hurting is a terrible word to use. I'm I'm good. Yeah. He was referring to Mike Conley, who's what?

I'd be 37 years old, almost 38 years old. Tom is running out for him. And we spoke to Chris Hahn and he's like, hey, Anthony Edwards is so, so enthusiastic. And sometimes, you know, maybe he doesn't realize what's in front of him.

It may not be easy to just move on ahead and move forward. We know the Oklahoma City Thunder. They are moving forward. They will be representing the West in the NBA Finals. And last night, the man who won Western Conference Finals MVP, the man who won the NBA's regular season MVP, the man who might be the NBA Finals MVP.

Shay Gilgus Alexander, he always deflects the credit. He decided to talk about the team and how well they get along. Listen, I think that's what makes us really good. Like we have so much fun being out there together. And I'm sure we all know, like when you're having fun with things, you give it your all and you you excel at it because you enjoy it.

Now, whether that's your job or not. But whatever you have fun with, you excel at. And that's why we've excelled for sure. Yeah, I think they got a lot more excelling to do. Give it two weeks, two and a half weeks. I think they're going to be excelling all the way to a championship and a championship parade.

And I can't wait to see what that. No, that might be. Let me let me relax. Hey, Nico, if they got a parade in Oklahoma City, you get on the first flight and going? I mean, I personally would not go, but I've always said that I really want to go to a parade. So.

OK. Oklahoma City, not your first choice. No, I mean, no offense to them. But what what's there besides the basketball team? Well, you said no offense. Oil, oil, oil, football.

Cowboy hats, dirt. It's been 15 years or almost 15 years since New York's had a parade. So I'm getting a little deprived here. Oh, boy.

You talk about the Yankees, 2009, the Giants 2012. Oh, my God. Whoa. Damn. Wow. New York Football Club, NYCFC, they want a title in what?

I want to say twenty twenty one. Right. Was there a parade? I don't remember.

And technically I should take the comment back because the Liberty did win very recently and they had a parade. So that is that is true. They just went down the Canyon of Heroes. Yeah. Yeah. You're absolutely right. They were on Broadway.

They did the parade in lower Manhattan and Brooklyn, didn't they? I don't remember if I'm being honest. Oh, damn. Ouch. Ouch.

Yeah. You know who was deprived of a parade? The Lakers. Lakers missed that parade with LeBron. LeBron won a championship with the Los Angeles Lakers and it was nothing, nothing. And then by the time it was after, there was no point in having a parade because it's like, we got a new champ anyway. Who cares? Can't have a retroactive parade.

I mean, what are we doing here? Well, didn't the Buccaneers have a parade when they won in the covid year? Yeah, but wasn't that. Was that before or after covid? I believe it was after because it was February twenty twenty one. That's right, because the Super Bowl took place right before the world shut down.

Yeah. And so but the following year we started to have that's almost four months after the fact, you know, and it took place in Florida. It wasn't in California, you know.

Yeah, that's true. Every state was was different. And then, yeah, I mean, Los Angeles was in the thick of things. They weren't they weren't just going to say, let's everybody have a parade outside.

Meanwhile, they down in Florida, they did their parade and it was outside on the bay. And Tom Brady, could you I'm still trying to understand if Tom Brady lost that damn trophy in the bay. That would be a part of his his career highlight reel, wouldn't it? Like he'd never lived that down.

I think that have to go with the top. Like the greatest player of all time. He won seven championships and even lost one in the in the bay. Yeah, he would have never he was certainly I'm surprised people don't talk about how drunk he was that day.

He got a pass for being a drunk. You know what? I mean, I guess Tom Brady can do whatever Tom Brady wants, apparently.

Yeah. We know the world is full of double standards. Could you imagine if Patrick Mahomes was drunk at a parade? Could you God forbid LeBron? Could you if LeBron was drunk at a championship parade and almost threw the Larry O'Brien trophy into the L.A. River, which is nothing but a trickle and then had to be carried away from the parade drunk? People would be calling up talking about what a piece of trash and horrible human being LeBron is. And Tom Brady was drunk and did almost throw the damn trophy away. And nobody cares.

It's like I love how people just pick and choose what they want to be bothered about. It's like this man was a delinquent outside. Like J.R. Smith was running around without a shirt on.

It's like, OK, fine. It's J.R. Smith. Tom Brady. You would think he's a Tom Brady. Such a great guy. Classy guy.

He's drunk outside in public. I guarantee we would have gotten callers saying, well, Michael Jordan never dropped the trophy and was drunk at a parade. Oh, what?

What? If Tom Brady dropped it? I'm saying if LeBron did.

Oh, my God. Michael Jordan never would have done that. People would have tried to wash LeBron from one side of the room to the other. It's like, you know, people people like to be selectively outraged when it comes to LeBron James.

It's just like, what do you do to anybody? He's a kid. This guy was a kid.

Literally a kid. This man is in his 40s now. He's been in the public eye for almost. But it's what is almost closer to 30 years.

Closer to 30 years. This man has been in the public eye and most people are going to get upset about his, you know, his comments about China and his political stances and and flopping like that's the most you can bother this guy about. Then I guess he's done pretty damn good in his life.

He hasn't bothered anybody. Damn. Anyway, eight, eight, eight, seven, ten for ISN.

That's eight, eight, eight, seven, ten for ISN. Paces in the New York Knicks are getting ready to come out of halftime. New York Knicks are leading 56 to 45. Meanwhile, I guess Dallas is trying to fight back to keep their season alive. The Oilers lead the Stars three to one. Just getting underway here in the second period.

We're going to take a break when we come back. I want to give you an update on the NFL. As I mentioned, we had quite a few NFL quarterbacks who did some talking today. And apparently the NFL also had a few issues when it came down to selling some of its tickets in London. Of course, at the end of the show, we'll talk about a few things that took place this day in sports history. We got a lot more to do as the show continues on.

You're locked in. It's the JR Sport Brief Show on the Infinity Sports Network. It is the JR Sport Brief Show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. 888-710-4ISN.

That's 888-710-4ISN. The third quarter in Madison Square Garden is underway. The New York Knicks lead the Pacers 64 to 50. The New York Knicks are trying to stay alive. I didn't think they were going to suffer the same fate as the Minnesota Timberwolves.

They may not win the game, but they certainly were going to go down with a fight. I told you that there was plenty that went on today in the world of sports as well. We heard from Rob Manfred earlier today.

He was on CBS mornings. Rob Manfred pretty much said that, yeah, Pete Rose is no longer here with us. And when you're on the ineligible list, you are not eligible to work for Major League Baseball. That has nothing to do with the Hall of Fame. So Rob Manfred is like, well, he's no longer alive. He cannot work for us while he is not here with us. So we just took him off the list. Hall of Fame don't got nothing to do with me.

I'm paraphrasing. And we also heard from someone who actually plays a sport and is very, very good at it. Patrick Mahomes. He spoke to the media earlier today. Patrick Mahomes was asked about.

Yeah, well, of course, the Kansas City Chiefs, they lost the Super Bowl. But he was asked about the Olympics in Los Angeles in twenty twenty eight. There have been a lot of conversations now that the NFL owners have approved players participating in. Well, a couple of years ago, as soon as last year, as recently as last year, Patrick Mahomes said, man, that sounds pretty cool.

What did he say today? Well, take a listen. Yeah, I know it's it's awesome, honestly, just to be able to showcase the NFL to the whole world through flag football. But I'll probably leave that to the younger guys.

I'll be a little old about time that that thing comes around. Yeah, but that guy who won the flag football USA Captain America championship, Darryl Doucette, Doucette, I guess he can do it. He wanted to.

He said he was a better flag football player than Patrick Mahomes. Well, the world will never find out. Never. Eight, eight, eight, seven, ten for ISN. That's eight, eight, eight, seven, ten for ISN. Daniel, he's calling up from Florida. Hey, Daniel, you're on the J.R. sport show.

What's up? Do you think Brock pretty deserves his big contract? I absolutely do think he deserves the big contract because of a team like the 49ers are willing to give him two hundred and sixty five million dollars. And yeah, he deserves it.

The man was also fourth in MVP voting a couple of years ago. He's been a steady hand for the team. I don't think anybody's going to confuse him with a Patrick Mahomes or Lamar Jackson. But he can certainly go out there and get the job done. And then also the fact that he had a lot of success going to multiple NFC championship games playing on a. Well, the last guy on a draft contract. Yeah, he's do a lot of money. I'm happy for the guy.

OK, thank you, Daniel, for calling from Florida multitasking at its finest. Eight, eight, eight, seven, ten for ISN. That's eight, eight, eight, seven, ten for ISN. And I don't think anybody's going to look at the 49ers and still go, oh, my God. You know, they're automatically going to the Super Bowl. I would think that the Philadelphia Eagles obviously have definitely jumped above them.

But the 49ers should still be in competition out there in the NFC West. Eight, eight, eight, seven, ten for ISN. That's eight, eight, eight, seven, ten for ISN. Ryan is calling up from Tuscaloosa. Ryan, you're on the JR Sportbrief show. JR, what's up, dude? I'm terrific. Ryan, how are you?

Man, I'm good, brother. Just want to say first give you your props and love your show. Very thought provoking. Listen to it whenever I can. So just appreciate what you do. It's a great show. Thanks.

What's up? Hey, so to comment on the Tom Brady throwing the getting drunk, throwing the throwing the trophy and then comparing to LeBron James and how people would just completely, you know, disown him for that. I think the difference is when you got and you also mentioned Michael Jordan, the difference is since day one. LeBron had nothing but nicknames, had done nothing at an NBA level, had big time contracts, did nothing. But before he stepped on a hardwood floor, before he ever did anything in the NBA, he was the chosen one. He was ninety seven million dollar Nike deal. Now, you can't fault him for that. They had changed, especially when Jordan played and when Brady played, but they had to work at what they did and became great. He was already labeled great before he ever got into the league and was handed everything. And if you want to go deeper with it, his numbers. Well, let's call it what it is.

Well, before you go on, Ryan, I disagree with you. I remember I remember vividly keeping up with. I remember starting keeping up with LeBron James in the physical newspaper.

OK, it was the physical newspaper and it was ESPN dot com because we didn't have all. When LeBron James came into the NBA, when he was still in high school, it was still flip phone city. And so you could really only go on to websites and forums and read about him in articles. And I don't think he was given anything.

He worked for everything he got. I don't think he was proclaimed he was marketed as being the next next big thing. But we've seen plenty of those players in the world of sports who are supposed to be the next big thing, not just in basketball, but you go into football.

We've had plenty of players who were talked about as having next that fell flat. He was someone who was marketed. He was sold on his potential. But I wouldn't say in any way, shape or form that LeBron James was given anything. He worked for it.

And I think throughout the course of time, whether you want to start from 2003 or you want to go back to 1999 for the past almost 26 to 30 years that he's been in public, he's worked for everything that he's gotten. And so if people want to be upset or find issue with what he was given before he earned everything, he started putting in the work. He earned himself a spot being selected a number one overall. He earned that contract that he got from Nike before he stepped onto the basketball court. It wasn't given to him. He earned it. And he earned it into a space as he got older that was just rife with criticism. And his career has pretty much just expanded and lived throughout an entire era of a social media explosion, which for the most part is wholly negative all across the block.

I strongly disagree that that LeBron was just handed everything and didn't earn it. I don't get that at all. Good point. Good point. Good point. That's fair. Good argument. But I want to get rebuttal.

But what I'm saying is there was nothing ever humble about what he did prior, like compared to Jordan, compared to Tom Brady. We disagree on that. Look, that's fine.

That's fine. But at the end of the day, he did himself no favors by the political comments he had made and given his voicing his opinion when he has every right to. He's an American citizen's freedom of speech, but there is also freedom of consequences.

And that's why he's caught a lot of backlash. He's not going to and he's not going to get the benefit of the doubt. Like maybe Jordan or Tom Brady did. Hey, but look, I'm not you probably already figured out I am not a LeBron James guy. You call what they call it LeBron James haters. I wish no ill will on him.

I'm not a fan. He is one of the greatest of all time. He might be the greatest athlete of all time. He has kept his nose clean, as far as I'm concerned. I mean, he's never done anything to make a fool of himself.

Like, really? But it's he's just never going to get that benefit benefit of the doubt. Because I think of maybe the younger generation, but people that have been watching sports for 40, 50 years, they they will not. It just he'll never be they'll never be on that same level as Jordan.

Well, it's great. I mean, he is and he's not is what I'm saying. I am in that that that that 40 to 50 year old space and I look at I look at at Michael Jordan as being the best of all time. And this is not a debate or conversation about being the best. I simply made a comparison between criticism that Tom Brady received when he was drunk at a parade and almost threw a trophy. Sure. And really wasn't criticized about it. And I basically said that, man, could you imagine if LeBron James did the same thing?

He would have been ripped from one hole to the other. And so, Brian, I appreciate the time, man. Thank you for the call. Thank you, brother. You have a good night.

As well, shout outs to Ryan for calling from Tuscaloosa. Yeah, I don't even think it's I don't even think it's debatable to go back and forth about what LeBron James earned or didn't earn. If you don't like what he says politically, then fine.

So be it. I mean, we live in such a nasty world that used to be you argue about what you believe in and what you don't. And now people pick a side and just argue based on that.

I find it to be wholly ridiculous regardless of what you believe in. But if, hey, that's one reason you don't like a guy, so be it. You know, Tom Brady at one point made some political statements and, hey, some people don't like him because of that. But to say that LeBron James just he wasn't humble. What didn't he do that was humble. This guy had the pressure of the world on his shoulders. He could have blew out a knee and he could have his career could have been different.

He could have made one bad decision as an 18 or 19 year old and he had been tossed aside. I don't think for what was expected of him and how he was marketed, how he was sold, what could be is the king make room. This is the next big thing. I dare to say. He is exceeded.

What he was initially sold as. He's lived up to it. He might be exceeding. It's crazy on and off the court. This is a pretty wild light when you think about his life as a whole.

That man is he is the American dream and what he's been able to take, what's been put in front of him and what he's been able to make out of it is just wholly amazing. Eight, eight, eight, seven, ten for ISN. That's eight, eight, eight, seven, ten for ISN. We are going to take a break when we come back. Of course, we'll talk about a few things that took place this day in sports history. I did tell you about the NFL.

Looks like they're having an issue with trying to get those tickets out in London. It is the J.R. Sport Breeze Show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. Eight, eight, eight, seven, ten for ISN.

That's eight, eight, eight, seven, ten for ISN. New York Knicks keeping the Pacers at bay, keeping their season alive as it stands right now. Knicks lead the Pacers 74 to 62.

There's about four minutes to go here in the third quarter. Jalen Brunson, 24. Karl-Anthony Towns with 19. Tyrese Halliburton, six points.

Pascal Siakam with 10. And this is this is the this is the funny thing about the NBA. It's the consistency between the stars like you have.

They used to be stars. You kind of knew what they were going to get. And if they had a bad game, it would just, you know, the range wasn't as wide. There's a little bit more consistency, but you could literally have a triple double in one game and be the star and then have eight points the next and then come back with another triple double.

It's you can go on a run and be the hero. I mean, we've seen this before from Tyrese Halliburton. So most certainly, I think everybody in Madison Square Garden knows that this game is still within reach and his season is still in peril without a shadow of a doubt. Meanwhile, in Dallas, Texas, the stars, their season is in peril. They did put up a two spot, putting up two goals. It was three to two. The Oilers did lead three goals to two against the stars. The Oilers have scored again. The Oilers now lead four to two. The star season is likely going to be over. There's still plenty of time. OK, there's about four minutes to go here in the second period. But if the Oilers advance and if they win tonight, they move on to the Stanley Cup finals for a rematch against the Florida Panthers.

It is the end of the show as we do every single show before we roll out. It's time for us to talk about a few things that took place this day in sports history. Back in the days when I was young, I'm not a kid anymore, but some days I didn't wish I was a kid again. It's time for this day in sports history.

See, back in those days, we had radio and you couldn't see anything and it was primitive and lousy and we liked it. On the JR Sport Brief Show. I wish I was 50 years younger and I'd kick your ass. It is the JR Sport Brief Show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. Today is May 29th. The year is twenty twenty five.

But if we go back in time, speaking of Indiana, at least the state of Indiana. In 1980, this day, Larry Bird, he won Rookie of the Year. His rookie season, Larry Legend, put up 21 points, 10 rebounds at four and a half assists a game. Four and a half assists a game.

Excuse me. And had almost two steals a game. Magic Johnson. Well, he didn't win. He won the NBA championship. He was a finals MVP. He had 18 points, seven rebounds, almost eight rebounds and seven assists. I want you to listen to Magic Johnson explain how upset he was that Larry Bird won Rookie of the Year.

This is from Shannon Sharp's podcast. Yeah. The guy who's in a little bit of trouble. Listen, he was Rookie of the Year. I think you got like one or two votes. That's all.

That's all you. I think it was like 30 to 33. No, like one or two. No, even more than that.

It was 60 something to like two. I hate to say that, too. I got to say that on TV. And so I was pissed, man. I was mad.

You like, hold on. I led a team to the NBA and I couldn't get but two votes. Two votes became the first rookie in NBA history to be named finals MVP. I was only the third dude ever in NBA history to go from the college championship to the NBA finals championship.

And so I get like two votes and they were two L.A. dudes. Come on, man. He's a competitor. What can you say? He's a competitor. I'm like, man, you won a championship. We talked about his feet yesterday, actually, you know, holding it down for Kareem going out there, playing center, winning finals MVP. Like you won the championship.

But I get it. If you're Magic Johnson, dammit, you just want to go out there and win everything. This is what made these guys great competitors. Balling in the late 70s and 80s. May 29th, 1980, Ricky Henderson. He had more stolen bases than anybody in American League history, because on this day he broke Ty Cobb's stolen base record for the American League.

The record was held for 62 years. Let's go back in time to May 29th, 1990, as Ricky Henderson stole against the Blue Jays. Ricky's not going to get a big lead. He's going to have if he goes, he's going to have to do it with sheer speed because Liriano is going to keep him close.

There are two outs. Liriano ducks in. Ricky's going, catches high, he's stolen. The American League record for Ricky Henderson.

Yeah, we know Ricky Henderson. I mean, dammit, the very next year he went out there and broke Luke Brock's record in 1991. He had more stolen bases than anybody at that point in time. He finished his career with 1406 stolen bases.

May 29th, 2010. God rest this man's soul. Roy Halliday pitched the perfect game against the Marlins, one to nothing. The man went out there and had 11 strikeouts. I remember that no hitter he had in the postseason. But right now we're talking about the perfecto. You got pretty close on on a bunch of three, two counts earlier on. But wipe these guys out. Let's take a listen to Roy Halliday throwing the 20th perfect game in Major League Baseball history.

Crazy to think, man, this was in 2010. Let's say the one to pitch hit toward third. Castro has it. Spins, fires a perfect game. Roy Halliday has thrown the second perfect game in Philadelphia Phillies history. He faces 27 batters. He retires all 27.

It's the 20th perfect game in baseball history and the second one this year. Man, he won two Cy Youngs. He won the Cy Young that year for the Phillies. You might recall he passed away in a in a plane crash that he was flying. He was 40.

He was only 40 years old. He was so cool to watch. He just seemed so smooth.

Nothing ever bothered him. Just had a great career in the Baseball Hall of Fame. Had to go in just crazy after he passed away. He was so fun to watch. May 29th, 2017. Oh, boy, this is not a good one.

There's nothing fun about this. Tiger Woods. He was arrested in Jupiter, Florida, for driving under the influence. Man, the Associated Press gets into everybody's business.

They got the audio from the drivers. Just listen to the officer's camera. Listen to Tiger Woods. It's not good. So where are you coming from today? You're coming from Jupiter, Florida. OK. Do you know where you're going?

No. You're just driving around or what? I like to drive.

I'm sorry? I like to drive. You like to drive? I'm a mentalist. OK. I want to be off course.

Go ahead and stand with your feet together and your arms down by your side. Oh. Are you OK? What's up? What are we doing?

I'm placing you under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence, OK? Man, Tiger Woods has had it rough. He's he has that overall had a good life.

I think a lot of people would trade to have his problems, maybe not those, but he's had a good life. Hey, this is a good example of everybody listening. Why are you out there in your vehicle?

Why are you driving around? Just don't don't do nothing crazy. And Tiger Woods, I'm hoping that the rest of his career, whatever might be left of it, I think he's done whatever is rest of his life that he can find some peace. He has not lived a normal life.

And we've seen the surgeries, the injuries, the substance abuse issues, the effects that it's had on him in his personal life. Wishing that guy the best all the way forward. This don't don't don't drink and drive. There's other people on the road with families and lives and futures.

So just think about the people that you have to share the road and space with. And there, folks, there you have it. A few things that took place this day in sports history. The New York Knicks just completing a well, just still rolling. It looks like a 12 to nothing run. Oh, a 14.

Oh, no, 12, nothing run. The Knicks lead the Pacers right now, 86 to 64. Everybody in New York is holding their breath that the New York Knicks just don't do something stupid here. What a way to go if they were to be eliminated. That'd be bad.

Nico, if they blow this game. Well, there's not I don't think people would anybody feel anything if they blew this game? It's just like, you know what? Screw you.

Yeah, I think at that point it was kind of just, you know, what it wasn't meant to be. Yeah. The Knicks will. We'll talk about this tomorrow. Rick Carlisle is ticked off, so might as well be ticked off this.

I mean, just either go on a run or go back to Indiana and try to close them out at home. New York Knicks leading 86 to 64. They're doing the opposite of what Minnesota did last night. Meanwhile, it's the end of the second period down in Dallas. The Edmonton Oilers lead the Stars four to two. The Oilers are trying to make their way back to the Stanley Cup finals if they win tonight for a rematch with the reigning champion, Florida Panthers. Hey, thank you so much to our guest Chris Hine from the Star Tribune to talk about the Timberwolves and Anthony Edwards.

Thank you as well to Steve McGee, who covers the Thunder for News 9 in Oklahoma City. Hey, I mentioned NFL Europe tickets. Apparently, robots tried to buy about a quarter billion of the tickets. And so the NFL had to put a stop to that.

So, yeah, I guess there's robotic demand, OK, for the NFL in Europe and a bunch of humans, too. OK, you can find me online everywhere at J.R. Sportbrief.
