And thank you again to you for being here. We got a lot to get into. Brock Purdy got paid. The Nuggets stay alive. The Knicks are trying to eliminate the Celtics tonight in New York. And speaking of New York, we got Juan Soto returning to Yankee Stadium with the New York Mets. Bill Belichick was in New York City today. Bill Belichick was on Good Morning America, talking about, guess what?
Yeah, his book and North Carolina and his girlfriend. Speaking of football, how about this? Former Cincinnati Bengals broadcaster Solomon Wilcox will come through and join us next hour to talk some football. We'll talk about the Bengals. We'll talk about Brock Purdy and his deal. We got a lot to get into with Solomon Wilcox. The WNBA is back.
Yeah, Kaitlyn Clark is back. OK, and people are going to beef with her. It will be absolutely amazing. Might have a change coming with the NFL playoffs.
And I think it's a good one. I'll fill you in later on in the show. Of course, we'll talk about a few things that took place this day in sports history. We got a lot to get into. You can always listen to this show on the free Odyssey app.
A U D A C Y. You can tune in on your local Infinity Sports Network affiliate. If you have Sirius XM, it's Channel 375.
If you have a smart speaker, ask the speaker to play the Infinity Sports Network. What a day. What a day. What a day. Congratulations to Brock Purdy.
I think I said this earlier in the week. I think it was a matter of time before Brock Purdy was going to go out there and get paid. Mr.
Irrelevant to Mr. Paid. The San Francisco 49ers and Brock Purdy about an hour ago, the news came out. He asked himself a 265 million dollar deal over the course of five years. That is 53 mil per. That means that Brock Purdy is one of the highest paid quarterbacks in the entire NFL right now. And there was a there was some thought that he wasn't going to be the highest paid Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys quarterback.
He is making 60 per. Brock Purdy falls right behind Joe Burrow, Josh Allen, Jordan Love and Trevor Lawrence were making 55 mill apiece with 53 million dollars per year. He's in the category with Tua Tonga Valoa, Jared Goff, and he's making one million dollar more per year than guys like Lamar Jackson, who helped pretty much set the table for everybody else to make money in front of him. Josh Allen just got paid and got bumped up.
So, hey, listen, when it comes down to the money, one guy is always jumping the next. And when you think about Brock Purdy, this man was the final pick in 2022. He was fourth in MVP voting in 2023. We saw, unfortunately, the San Francisco 49ers. The team completely went to hell with all of the injuries last year, whether it's Christian McCaffrey, Brandon, I you complained about his contract for the entire offseason, ultimately for him to go down. They've certainly adjusted the team this past offseason just so he can get paid. Brock Purdy now making fifty three million dollars a year.
You know what that means or what it did mean? I mean, that meant that Leonard Floyd, he got cut. Hufanga, he got the boot. Traverius Ward, he gone. He's with the Colts now. Even Deebo Samuel, Deebo Samuel got traded. And so the San Francisco 49ers, they did a lot. They moved hell and high water to go ahead and keep Brock Purdy in the building. We know he wasn't going anywhere.
And it's just a matter of how far they go. The San Francisco 49ers for years were looked upon as contenders. They were able to benefit off of the solid play, not spectacular, very good, solid play of Brock Purdy. Yeah, he had that MVP caliber year in twenty, twenty three.
But this man was not winning no damn MVP. But when you play in a division with the Rams, I think they might be equal with the Rams. I think the Rams might be better than them at this point in time in the NFC West, despite the advancing age of their quarterback, old Georgia Bulldog, Mr. Stafford, who just got himself a brand new contract extension. You got the Seahawks. Well, who am I fooling supposed to be enthralled and excited about Sam Darnold?
No, thank you. And then you have the Arizona Cardinals, who just they're the most mediocre up and down team in the entire NFL. It's like a video game. Calum Murray will shoot you in.
He'll shoot you out. And Calum Murray, we certainly know that he's fond of video games. So, hey, that's it. So the 49ers still have a chance here to make the playoffs, to win the postseason, to win the NFC West. But they are long gone from the days of, hey, let's go meet the Eagles in the NFC Championship game.
That is not a guarantee. Congratulations again to Brock Purdy. Five years, two hundred and sixty five million dollars. Yeah, they had to cut and shed some salary. Brought on some young guys to try to make up for it. Let's see what these 49ers do. It's one thing to be sleeping on somebody's couch and drive a Honda Accord, have a roommate with your offensive lineman. It's one thing to be the final pick in the draft.
The expectations are so much higher. When you're getting paid fifty three a year and you're one of the highest paid guys, men, flat and period in the NFL. Congratulations Brock Purdy. It's the JR Sport Reshow here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. Shout out to our producer in New York City, Ray. Ray, how you doing, man?
You good? I can't complain at all. It's Friday. The weather is somewhat decent after a rainy start. The humidity is cooling out. We got the subway series about to go down in the Bronx.
We got the Knicks in the garden. It's great energy in New York City right now. That's a beautiful thing.
That's a beautiful thing. How do you feel about the energy out west? How you feel about this contract that Brock Purdy just got? Well, I was a big fan of what the 49ers are doing over the last few years. It's a shame that they couldn't get the job done by winning the Super Bowl. But this is how it goes in the NFL. A lot of times the best NFL runs that you've seen, let's say over the last 10 years, usually comes with a quarterback that's underpaid or underpaid by market value.
And they're able to like use some of that money to reallocate it to the skill players. And they make a couple of runs. Hopefully they squeeze into a Super Bowl or two. But for the most part, usually what happens is at the end of that run, the quarterback gets paid and then the kind of the hierarchy changes, the physicals change. And now you have to wonder, do they have enough around the quarterback to win games as you were just saying? So I'm not sure about this deal because I'm not sure about Brock Purdy. I think he's a pretty decent quarterback. I think San Francisco's offensive system is set up to where it can make a lot of guys look really good.
I like Jimmy Garoppolo as an example. So the jury's out. Big money.
Get your paper. Don't get me wrong. But now you have to perform as a quarterback of that caliber with that paycheck.
Yeah, he's he's certainly been the beneficiary. And we hear this all the time. Yesterday we had the entire conversation about Caleb Williams last offseason. Both he and his dad did not want him anywhere near the Chicago Bears. And now we hear the Chicago Bears, by the way, are trying to move out into the Arlington Heights, by the way. I hate that idea. Please keep them on the lakefront.
But that's a different conversation. We heard that Caleb Williams wanted to go to the Minnesota Vikings. He wanted nothing to do with the Chicago Bears.
His dad was quoted in this book that's coming out in September as saying. Chicago's were quarterbacks go to die. I mean, even if we look at some of the other franchises across the NFL, if we take a look at the New York Jets, I mean, I can go on an unfortunate list. God bless Sam Darnold for finding new life outside of the Jets organization. You know, the same thing for Geno Smith. This guy was looked upon at West Virginia as, oh, he could be something in the league. And then he was saddled with the Jets. You know, it's I'm not even going to mention some of the guys from BYU that were reportedly allegedly.
Anyway, I'll leave I'll leave a lot of those guys alone. The Jets are one of these quarterback failure teams. And so, yeah, where you get drafted can have a major impact on what your career arc might look like. I mean, even if we go back further, David Carr, we know his brother Derek just had to retire due to his shoulder issue. But man, David Carr was drafted by the Houston Texans.
This is an expansion franchise. They got all of the offensive linemen just right out of the stands. And the next thing you know, David Carr got the living hell beat out of him to start his career. And then he said, I'm not doing this anymore. He pretty much ended his own career. Brock Purdy is the beneficiary of Jimmy Garoppolo being hurt, being injured, being somebody who was somewhat exciting enough to titillate Bill Belichick.
But we know anything can titillate Bill Belichick at this point. Anyway, Jimmy Garoppolo went out to the 49ers and Shanahan made him look like a god. And then this body continued to break down. And here we have Brock Purdy. He took over and he ran with that roster, the Deebo Samuels of the world. Ultimately, they eventually added Christian McCaffrey. They had at IU and they just retooled. I mean, just last offseason, they smartly drafted Ricky Piersol out of Florida. Unfortunately, this guy got shot in downtown San Francisco across the street from Union Square.
That's a seedy place, by the way. Ricky Piersol, big things expected for him this season to pick up some of the slack. I mean, when Brock Purdy finally got the rock, when he got the chance and the opportunity to ball, all he had to do because they had so much talent around him was real simple. Brock, move the ball down the field.
Don't do too much. Don't turn the ball over. And then Brock Purdy went out there and he excelled. I still wish that last time a couple of years ago, a couple of seasons ago, when they took on the Philadelphia Eagles and Brock Purdy is he couldn't even feel his arm. I wish we got a full game instead of the Eagles beating the living hell out of them and then going on to the Super Bowl. I wanted to see what we would have gotten in a full game of Brock Purdy.
But unfortunately, we did it. And then he came back the very next year and he's just like, here's what I got for you. Thirty one touchdowns, 11 interceptions. We know what Brock Purdy can do with talent around him.
I think he'll be fine if Christian McCaffrey can stay healthy. I mean, that guy, everything. Well, I got to watch. I say that I was going to say everything below his waist. His calves were hurting.
Easy. Now I'm saying his calves, his Achilles. I'm going to bet his quads were hurting. Christian McCaffrey, he was hurting last year. Brandon Iuchus coming back off of a knee injury. What is Ricky Pierce all going to do now in his first full season? I hope he avoids Union Square. I hope he doesn't wear jewelry downtown in San Francisco.
That is a bad idea. Hey, George Kittle just got paid, right? They got a huge check back on a on a discount, a full back. Just go please protect Brock Purdy. And I don't know what the hell is going on with Trent Williams. Don't ask me when he's not getting penalized on the field.
He's sitting up in a skybox and he's not doing that. Well, either way, he's he's making a lot of money. He's making a lot of bread. And so let's see what happens with these 49ers. And so one domino has fallen here in the off season. What's going to happen with Trey Hendrickson?
This man is making all the damage he made. He's slated to make about 15 to 17 this year. Some of the other premier pass rushers in the NFL are making twice as much as him sometimes more than that. Miles Garrett is sitting in that 40 mil range. And when you got 17 and a half sacks the past two years, you would think that you you get paid in that 35 to 40 range to just like Max Crosby did.
Max Crosby got about 35 and change. What's going on with Michael Parsons? Well, we know what's going to happen there. Jerry Jones is going to drag his situation out like something that you've never seen before. Well, I guess you have because that's all Jerry Jones does.
It doesn't matter who or what year it is. So Brock Purdy finally got paid. It's time to see what other contracts get handed out between now and training camp, which is crazy to think. Training camp in the NFL is about two months away. Two months. Damn, July. I'm not trying to fast forward to July.
I mean, we barely even. Oh, damn it. We getting closer to Memorial Day. Man, it's next weekend.
Damn. So speaking of that, let's not fast forward anything. Let's take a deep breath. Let's take our time. You're listening to the JR sport re-show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. When we take a break, we're going to come back.
We'll talk about a team that they took their time last night and they won. It's the Denver Nuggets staying alive, forcing a game seven against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Hey, Ray told you it's a big night in New York City. The New York Knicks are trying to eliminate the Boston Celtics and Juan Soto will return to the Bronx.
He will return to take on the New York Yankees as a member of the Mets. He said it's going to be fifty thousand people versus one. OK, we have so much to get into. You want to holler at me.
You can go ahead and do so. The number here is eight eight eight seven ten for ISN. That's eight eight eight seven ten for ISN. We got Solomon Wilcox coming through NFL broadcaster. He'll be here with us next hour. We're just getting started. Happy Friday. The JR sport reshow.
Don't move. It is the JR sport reshow here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. We talked about a big deal. On the West Coast, Brock Purdy got a new contract. He's making fifty three million dollars a year. Good for Brock Purdy. Five years.
Two hundred and sixty five million dollars. That's that's in the Bay Area. That's out west. If we go east, it's a big deal in New York City tonight. Got some baseball going on in the Bronx, New York. You got some basketball going on in Midtown Manhattan. Thirty four Street, 31st Street, 7th Avenue, Madison Square Garden.
There's some big things going on. The New York Knicks are trying to eliminate the Boston Celtics with no Jason Tatum. You take the D train north, you get on the four train and next thing you know at Yankee Stadium as Juan Soto returns to Yankee Stadium, not in the Yankees uniform, but with the New York Mets. New York Mets and the Yankees are going to be playing in the subway series. Major League Baseball has its rivalry week.
Anything to go ahead and make people buy some tickets, get the people going. In a different case, in a different place, we're going to have more baseball this May. OK, the Boston Celtics season could end tonight. The New York Knicks could advance to the Eastern Conference Finals, something that they haven't done in twenty five years. There are people who are alive right now.
There are diehard Nick fans who know a little bit of pain. They haven't seen twenty five years of the Knicks not doing anything. The last time they were in the Eastern Conference Finals, guess who they were taking on? The Indiana Pacers. Is that is that going to happen this year?
Is that what's going to happen in in twenty twenty five? Well, the Knicks are going to have to do better than what they just did against the Boston Celtics because they did not get the job done. They're playing extra basketball.
They were up three one. Jason Tatum just tore his Achilles in New York. He ruptured his Achilles. Excuse me. Everybody's a doctor now.
You got to get those things right. He ruptured his Achilles and then he had surgery the very next morning. Good for him. Hope he returns and returns in the same condition.
I hope. The Knicks went up to Boston to close things out and they did it. They lost 127 to 102 was the final score. Jalen Brunson fouled out. He had twenty six points.
Derek White. He lit them up. Thirty four points to go along with seven threes. Kristaps Porzingis, whatever infection and breathing issue he has, he still has it.
Twelve minutes and one point. But the New York Knicks are home. Madison Square Garden is going to be rocking. The New York Knicks have a chance and an opportunity to move ahead, as I said, to take on the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals.
This is the day. Miquel Bridges, who stunk in that game up in Boston, only had nine points. Miquel Bridges talked about the New York Knicks mindset heading back home, trying to close this one out. Yeah, I played desperate. You know, I don't think we did that. But yeah, we got to come out progressive throughout the whole game.
Yeah, you please, you. Isn't your job to play defense and hit threes. We saw you play that defense, a lot of defense in those first two 20 point comeback games for the New York Knicks. Please, tonight, no, no 20 point comebacks.
All right. No 14 point comebacks for the New York Knicks. You can't let Derek White, borderline all star, walk into New York City, walk into Madison Square Garden and just light up the New York Knicks from three. Somebody give him an elbow or something. I don't know. Send Patrick Ewing out there to give him one good one. His elbow will probably shatter if he throws that elbow though, man.
I don't know. An elbow from Patrick Ewing, I think at any age, will pretty much go out there and do some damage. It's somebody that's one for elbows being thrown is Joe Missoula.
This nut into MMA fighting. Yo, that Jason Tatum in the last series to get on up when he sprained his wrist, he's just like, get up. The poor guy had to miss a game. Joe Missoula's tough. Get punched in the face and he'd keep on walking.
He's like the Terminator. Matter of fact, Joe Missoula says, I believe in my guys because I know my guys. You know what? They are tough.
Absolutely, Joe. That's just who they are as people. I mean, just a character of those guys. A lot of these guys been around the league a long time.
They've seen a lot. To me, you just rely on the character of the guys, the togetherness, the staff. At the end of the day, you don't get to pick the test that you have. You just pick how you respond to them. That's kind of how life works.
That's kind of how life works. Joe Missoula always has things in its proper perspective. Somebody who needs to show up is not Derek White tonight, by the way. The guy who needs to show up and I don't want to say put the team on his back, but he's he's second banana. He's second fiddle here on the Boston Celtics to Jason Tatum is is Jalen Brown. Come on, Jalen.
Last year, it had nothing to do with the NBA. But last year you were like, hey, I didn't I ain't make the Olympic team. Well, show us how damn good you are. Yeah, you're one of the best players in the United States of America. But but show us that you're one of the best in the NBA. Do that tonight. Tonight's the opportunity.
Damn it. Tatum didn't even play in the Olympics last year. They had his ass glued next to the bench or on the bench next to Halliburton. These are the moments where you step up and credit to him at home. The last game, Derek White had thirty four Jalen Brown went out and had twenty six.
But when you're one of the highest paid players in NBA history, at one point in time, he had the biggest contract in NBA history. Tonight is the night Jalen Brown. With you shooting that rock, knocking down threes, he's going to the basket.
You got to do something for all the complaining and talking that you did do. Hey, prime opportunity to show your worth without Jason Tatum. Jalen Brown says, I don't care what they need. I don't care what coach asks for.
I got it. Be myself, come out, be aggressive and, you know, get it done in multiple ways. You know, it's a team where we've always been a team. I've always preached team. I've done whatever, you know, to kind of push this team forward.
So whatever is needed on me, you know, I'm excited to be able to, you know, facilitate in whatever role. Come on, man. This guy's contract is getting ready to set at five years, 300 mil. You better do more than that. You better help them win. With the New York Knicks, you never know. Tonight, the New York Knicks could stress the hell out of everybody, have a game seven or the New York Knicks could just make it when they could advance. The riot police will be out in full force tonight outside of Madison Square Garden if they win. And if they lose, everybody will kind of be ticked off anyway, but not as rowdy, OK? The New York Knicks got two chances to close this series out. And Derek White, Mr. 34 points, Mr. Startoff, perfect from three, four, four.
Mr. Knock them down, said the Boston Celtics, they are not going down without a fight. Our back's against the Knicks. It's a win or go home at this moment. So none of us want to go home.
And so we understand that it's only going to get tougher. We haven't done anything yet. Just got to find a way to go to New York and win a game. Yeah, they haven't won anything.
He's right about that. Well, they won the last game up in Boston. Now they got to do it in New York. I don't want to call it a pick them game. I'm going to give the New York Knicks the slight edge, slight, very slight. If I got a goal, 51-49, I'm giving the Knicks the slight edge. Let's 52-48, slight edge. I'm not pushing it to 60-40.
That's a little too much. But Boston is certainly capable of winning this game and I'll push it more. I'm going to give the New York Knicks this game, knowing that at any moment, any time, any game, the New York Knicks can lay an egg.
But I think Brunson is going to have a good game following his fouling out in the last one. And I think they'll go ahead and get the job done in New York City. I think people in Midtown will be certainly happy. I think people in the metropolitan area of New York City will be happy. And I don't know what the hell is going to happen in the Bronx.
Well, I do. I mean, it's just a regular season game between the Yankees and the Mets, both having some solid seasons. Unfortunately, the Yankees dealing with all types of injuries.
Chism is heard. We know about the long term injury stance and God knows when he's coming back. Maybe soon Cole is done for the year. We got two teams. The Yankees got a record of twenty five and eighteen.
The New York Mets are twenty eight and sixteen. And if you just think about the stars on both teams, obviously everybody knows about Aaron Judge. He's leading the world in everything. He is literally he's a man playing amongst boys.
He's just like, is there any other level of competition? He's batting a four twelve. With fifteen home runs.
Forty one RBI is. People were saying last year, oh, yeah, he had the benefit of also, you know, having Soto there. Well, where's where's Juan Soto now?
He's in Queens, New York. Not necessarily having the hottest of starts. He's batting 255, eight home runs, 20 RBIs can still get on base at a high clip because he knows how to take a walk.
I'm sure his numbers at some point in time will even out. But this is a grudge match. This is a rivalry.
This is the subway series. This is the New York Mets. This is the Yankees. They hate each other's guts. You can't be a fan of both. Not in New York. Some people are.
They're weird. Aaron Judge. He says he is looking forward to the subway series. Oh, it's going to be fun, you know, to, you know, best teams in baseball, you know, going after it. It's going to be an exciting weekend. That's for sure. Oh, well, yeah, of course.
Of course, it's going to be an exciting week. Carlos Mendoza, the manager, you know, he's familiar with the Yankees as well. And he talked about Soto returning to the BX this weekend.
Take a listen. He's going back. It's going to it's going to go in there. And this, you know, good memories, you know, he had a really good year with them, went to the World Series with them.
Yeah, it'll be it'll be exciting. The memories are so good. He decided to not make any more.
He said, I'm gone. Yeah, we heard all of the I must say controversy. But when Juan Soto decided to go to the New York Mets, there were stories about how he felt his family was mistreated or he felt his family was would receive better opportunities around the New York Mets.
I find whatever whatever floats your boat. We know Steve Cohen is going to spend money on the New York Mets going to get to a title before the Yankees time. Time will certainly tell. Think about somebody who also played on the New York Yankees as a reliever, as a closer. He's now a starter on the New York Mets. He's a teammate with this man, Juan Soto, Clay Holmes. Clay Holmes was asked about Juan Soto's return to the Bronx. Clay Holmes said he'll be fine. Yeah, I think his focus is going to be and put up good at bats. And, you know, he's always always able to lock it in in those big moments. So it'd be fun to watch him. Yeah, it'd be fun to watch him.
I'm sure it will be. J.R., do I sense a tone of salt about Soto being a Met? No, no, no, I don't care. Oh, OK. I wish I did.
No, I don't care. I think the guys I think the man is going to go into Yankee Stadium and I think he's going to have a great series. I expect Juan Soto to go and blast a home run into right field and shut everybody up.
I think that's the most I think that's the most likeliest of options. This man is basically won a World Series, helped win a World Series as a baby with the Washington Nationals. I think his time in San Diego was certainly a disappointment. He goes to the Bronx. He has an amazing year. Juan Soto translates that amazing year into almost the 800 million dollar contract.
This guy is going to go out and ball an Aaron Judge. He was certainly asked about Juan Soto. I mean, if we go back to earlier this year, Judge, he had a response about Juan Soto going to the Mets.
Listen to this. That's his opinion. He can he can say what he wants.
I definitely disagree with him, but I wasn't I wasn't too surprised by it. You know, it's I think that's where he wanted to be. I think that's where it was best for him and his family. And he got a he got a pretty nice deal over there. It's like you can't say no to that, but I'm happy for him. You know, he got a good deal. He's going to be in a great spot. It's going to be great having him in town. We're going to be battling back and forth for for quite a few years. Yeah, Juan Soto is like, yeah, I think the Mets are a better place for me to win and get paid seven hundred and sixty five million dollars. It's going to be interesting to see at some point in time. I don't know if it's going to be this year, next couple of years. Are we staring at another subway series? I know the rest of America could care less about the Yankees and Mets beating the living hell out of each other, but it certainly might be a possibility when you think about all the money that the Yankees and Mets go out there and spend a lot of competition in Major League Baseball.
But it's not out of the realm of possibility. It's the J.R. sport we show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. Eight eight eight seven ten for ISN.
That's eight eight eight seven ten for ISN. We are going to take a break. Juan Soto returns to the Bronx tonight as a New York man to take on the New York Yankees. On the other side, I'm going to tell you about a basketball team. Returning to Oklahoma City to try to advance to the Western Conference Finals, I'm going to tell you about the Denver Nuggets and what they did last night against OKC to stay alive. They're returning to Oklahoma. It's the J.R. sport we show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. And right now it's time for a newsflash. Here he is.
It's Rich Ackerman. It is the J.R. sport we show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. Eight eight eight seven ten for ISN.
That's eight eight eight seven ten for ISN. Hey, we've talked about the West Coast. Brock Purdy getting this new deal.
Fifty three million dollars a year for the 49ers. We talked about the East Coast. New York Knicks trying to get rid of the Boston Celtics. Juan Soto returning to the Bronx as a member of the New York Mets.
But now. We got to go to the mountains. We got to go to Colorado. We got to go to Denver because last night the Nuggets did. What the Celtics hope to do tonight. The Nuggets stayed alive against Oklahoma City. Oklahoma City up three two trying to get the Nuggets the hell up on out of here. The Nuggets certainly have championship experience even though their championship coach Michael Malone got fired right before the start of the playoffs. The Nuggets win with their backs up against the wall the final score last night.
One nineteen to one oh seven. Denver started off hot. OKC came back and made it close. But then by the time we got to the third quarter who would expect it. Who would have expected Julian Strother to come through and come out and get busy. This guy was out here getting buckets he's knocking down threes he scored 15 points in the second half. Even Christian Brown who sucked in the last game.
This guy was throwing UFOs all over the place. He had a career playoff high. Twenty three points. Jokic twenty nine fourteen and eight. Oh yeah he sucked with a terrible game for Jokic. This guy typically goes out there last game he had forty four and even Jamal Murray. All day all we heard about was how sick he was. He wasn't feeling well. Jamal Murray finished with twenty five points. Pretty hilarious. What a situation this was. Last night Nicole Jokic after the game he says man Jamal Murray. I knew this guy was going to be fine.
Listen to this. I think that that doesn't really change anything. His approach is going to be the same. So he opened the game really good for us and he said it to him.
But I think his illness affected him at all. So when you play the game I think you don't think about what you have or whatever is about your problem you have. He needs to go tell that to Chris Staps Porzingis on the Celtics.
Porzingis will gladly tell. Yeah I'm sick guys. I don't have what I typically have. I'm sick. Can't play but more than a few minutes.
OK. Fine. Nicole Jokic doing Nicole Jokic things. Jamal Murray sometimes he's there sometimes he's not. In the playoffs he typically performs well.
But Julian Strother the man out of Gonzaga. I told you about his fifteen points he's knocking down threes he's driving to the basket. You never know what you're going to get out of the Nuggets bench. This is one of the reasons reportedly that the Nuggets got rid of Michael Malone between him and Calvin Booth. Michael Malone is like I ain't playing him I'm not playing none of these young guys Westbrook get your ass out there. Julian Strother stepped up big in an elimination game for the Denver Nuggets and he said yeah I might be young but I stay ready. The last couple of months I've been dealing with injuries and being in and out of rotation but I'm just staying consistent to my routine and you know understanding that if I could put my work in that I could I could trust and be OK with whatever happens out there on the court. So you know just practicing and working out as if you know I'm going to be in the rotation and in the playoffs understanding that you know we need guys to step up and I'm one of them guys that I feel like I can do it. He did it last night.
Nothing different than just getting thrown to the fire and having to kind of walk right on through it. I'm glad I want more basketball. You know I mean if the New York Knicks lose tonight then damn it give me some more basketball give me another game seven.
Sign me up I'm here for all the game sevens. You think about this this series specifically between OKC and the Denver Nuggets. Jokic is one of the best players that has ever stepped onto an NBA basketball court. He's won a championship.
He's won multiple MVPs. And the Oklahoma City Thunder they're just they're trying to prove that hey we are ready to go to the next step. And the Denver Nuggets might be a part of that journey. Shay Gilgus Alexander he had 32 points last night. We got this game seven on Sunday. Jalen Williams I mean he was an All-Star this year for the Oklahoma City Thunder. He only scored six points last night. But right now their youth or at least last night their youth it wasn't a positive.
It looked like it was a negative. Are we going to see this young team get over the hump. David Adelman he's young as well interim head coach here for the Denver Nuggets taking over for Michael Malone. He looked at Julian Strother and he's just like yeah this is I'm a young coach that's a young guy. He stepped up.
I appreciate him. Last game I kind of kicked myself for not taking one of them out. And Nicole it seemed body language wise like he wanted to sit for a second. The beautiful thing was I had four timeouts again. I know it didn't work out last game.
That does let you control your substitutions and those guys held water you know to start that quarter. Yeah well now we've got to see what things look good for David Adelman. I have a feeling this dude's going to be sticking around whether they win or whether they lose on Sunday. You know Ray we talked about this yesterday how those fans in Oklahoma City they are one of the most rambunctious fan bases in the entire NBA. I mean Oklahoma doesn't have another professional sports team. They got the Thunder and they got a bunch of football and basketball on the college side.
Dammit they even got gymnastics out there. But when it comes to the pros the Thunder is where it's at man. It's going to be loud in that place. It's definitely going to be loud. But if Jalen Williams decides to shoot three for 16 from the field you have a couple of your players on the bench combining the shoe one for seven.
It doesn't matter how loud it's going to be. You got to go see about Yogi and Murray. They show up in big games.
I don't know what we're going to get from Braun but I get the sense that Westbrook is going to have a pretty decent game in the game seven at his old heart. So those players OKC have to show up. The fans are going to show up. They're going to wear their multicolored. You see how they got it layered up.
The blue shirts the white t-shirts. The fans will do their part. But these young guys this is their moment. Last year Dallas treated them like they were young and they weren't much of a competition. They've showed up so far this year in the playoffs winning that big game four coming back in game five. They kind of I thought at a certain point they were going to run away with it in game six but then they folded game seven is a different animal. You have a former world champion in your building.
You got to show up. Yeah. You think about the sixty eight wins this season for the Oklahoma City Thunder.
You think about Shay Gilgus Alexander. This man is likely going to go out there and win MVP. It's pretty much earmarked for him to win MVP over Nikola Jokic. It's going to be beyond a disappointment if this squad this young squad I mean after this year the young and inexperienced that that's that's over. I mean you got a bunch of dudes who can continue to improve. Jalen Williams can get better Chet Holmgrum can continue to grow.
They're still young. I still think ultimately if they keep this group together then at some point especially if they add more veteran depth they can win a championship. But it'll be a massive disappointment to almost win 70 games 68 games and get taken out by Nikola Jokic. This is a team that has won a championship.
Aaron Gordon last night he was kind of limping around at the end of the game dealing with a hamstring. He said he'll be ready to go. OK. That doesn't mean that he will.
Doesn't mean that he'll be at full strength. I mean this is still also a team that with Michael Porter Junior he's dealing with a shoulder issue he can't even shoot the basketball straight right now. And here they are still pushing a game seven.
I think Jokic is certainly going to go out there and do work. This is either going to be an Oklahoma City Thunder blowout. And if it's a close game I'm going to go ahead and give this one to the dudes with the championship pedigree. I'm going to give it to the Denver Nuggets. This is going to be a good one on Sunday afternoon.
Thunder Nuggets down in Oklahoma City. Go ahead. Yes sign. Sign me up for this one.
I'm here for it. It's the J.R. Sportbreeze show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. 8 8 8 7 10 4 ISN.
That's 8 8 8 7 10 4 ISN. We talked about Brock Purdie's deal. 53 mil a year. We talked about the New York Knicks getting ready to be in action against the Boston Celtics trying to close them out. The Denver Nuggets staying alive against the Oklahoma City Thunder. We're going to go back to New York City on the other side of the break. And no it has nothing to do with the Knicks or the Celtics the Yankees or the Mets. We're going to talk about somebody who made a stop in New York to promote his book. Oh yes the North Carolina head coach is Bill Belichick. He's still talking about his book about football and oh yeah his girlfriend. And we're going to be joined by Solomon Wilcox.
