It is! The JR Sport Brief Show on the Infinity Sports Network.
I'll tell you why I'm laughing in a second. I'm coming to you live from Atlanta, Georgia. And thank you to everybody tuned in all over North America. Hope you're safe. Hope you're well. Hope you're amazing.
I'll be hanging out with you for the next two hours. The show gets started every weekday, 6 p.m. Eastern, 3 Pacific. Super producer and host Ryan Hickey.
He is in New York City and we've had a busy show so far. Thank you all so much to Cleveland Cavaliers legend and broadcaster and Notre Dame legend, basketball legend. Thank you to Austin Carr for joining us in the last break to talk about what these Cleveland Cavaliers have been able to do in the postseason so far. Meanwhile, one of their next opponents, well, they're currently tied after three quarters. The Milwaukee Bucks, the Indiana Pacers tied at 75 points each. If the Pacers win, they win the series 4 to 1. If the Milwaukee Bucks win, well, they just delay the inevitable because we know they ain't going anywhere without Damian Lillard. And man, we got a lot of basketball games tonight.
Damn, a lot of them. New York Knicks and the Pistons just get underway. Knicks are trying to eliminate the Pistons. They also have a 3-1 series lead. The same thing for the Boston Celtics trying to get the magic out of here. And meanwhile, we have the Nuggets and Clippers.
They are tied at two games apiece. This is a lot of basketball on a Tuesday night. We talk basketball. We talk football like George Kittle getting a new contract. I guess this means that Brock Purdy is next for the San Francisco 49ers. J.J. McCarthy says he is ready to go as the starting quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings.
He says, give me the basketball. And you know what? A matter of fact, 20 minutes from now, we're going to talk about the San Francisco 49ers. We're going to have a good old chat with someone who covers them out in the Bay Area. Covers all things Bay Area sports. Larry Krueger is going to join us from KNBR. He'll be here in about 20 minutes.
He's a host of The Krueg Show on YouTube as well. We'll get a chance to look at these 49ers. They were and have been championship contenders. What do we have next? We'll find out sooner than later. We'll have that chat with Larry in a bit. Also, looks like the NBA has some thoughts and ideas when it comes down to correcting the All-Star game. How are they going to do that?
I know, right? Adam Silver said no more of these stupid tournaments. That sucked this year. They're going to try to take advantage of what we saw in the NHL, where you have these international competitions. They're going to try to take advantage of what we saw in the Olympics. So the NBA might go international when it comes down to its All-Star game.
To me, it's just a matter of whether or not they have enough international All-Stars to compete with the United States of America. Of course, at the end of the show, we'll talk about a few things that took place this day in sports history. So we have a lot more to get into on both the NBA and NFL fronts.
I did mention I was laughing at the top of the break. Sitting here in the studio, I got basketball on. Trying to watch baseball. MLB is stupid. What else is new?
I'm watching a little bit of everything. There's just a commercial that popped up that I've never seen in my life. Hickey had said, you can get deodorant that lasts for 72 hours.
And I'm like, what? 72 hours of staying fresh? Is it poison? Is it killing off your cells?
Is it destroying your glands? 72 hours of freshness? What type of witchcraft is that? Why 72? Why is there an assumption that no one's going to shower for three days? I don't know.
Hey, you get it done on one day, you shower one day, and now you don't have to shower for the next three. I have no idea, bro. Oh, God. I don't know. The 72 hours of freshness. I don't know. Maybe this is deodorant for people going on excursions where they don't have access to water. I do not know. But there were a bunch of women in the commercial and they looked very happy.
They looked like ordinary people who have jobs where you would, I don't know, shower, cleanse. I don't know every day. I don't know, Hickey. I have no idea. Neither do I. And I never want to find out.
You never want to meet a woman that uses 72 hour deodorant? Correct. If we do, pack it up. I'm gone.
See you later. That's it. That's the test. Hey, hey, babe, what's this deodorant that you have?
It says 72 hours. You trying to tell me, son, you going to quit showering? What are we doing here? I don't know. That's all you need to know.
No, thank you. Hey, Hickey, wait until they got week long deodorant, OK? If it's taken them this long to give you three day deodorant, you know, somebody somewhere is like, hmm, I can get deodorant that works for seven days. And then body wash, shampoo, soap. Oh my God. The once a week shower. Oh, my. Well, every now and then I hear the videos about the these people that go viral. You see them. They go, oh, yeah, shower once a month.
I think the soap is not good for you. I'm just like, OK. All right. Don't invite me to your house, please. Just. I'll see you outside driving by my vehicle or something. I just.
No, no, it's to each his own. If soap is going to kill my jar, I'll die young. I if soap is going to kill you, man, I hear that. Meanwhile, we got this basketball game going on. The Detroit Pistons trying to stay alive against the Knicks in New York. Detroit leads 20 to six team. So much basketball on today.
And then also, how about this? Shadore Sanders. He showed up to work. We got video of him arriving and his head down. He's ready to get into action and start his new life as a quarterback in the NFL. Competition competing against Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett and Dylan Gabriel and Deshaun Watson is somewhere on the other side of the building rehabbing if they even let him in.
It's just this is your door. Sanders new life. And we still got people complaining. And everybody's putting in their two cents as to why he felt.
I gave you mine yesterday. The juice wasn't worth the squeeze. NFL teams didn't feel that he was good enough for all of the outside noise and attention. And then we heard from plenty of other sources, apparently, that it was true that he crapped some of these meetings. And apparently he did it intentionally in some cases to try to steer and direct where he was drafted and where he was not. And so I don't think there was there was collusion. I don't think these owners sat around and were just like, oh, we got to show Deon and his son.
I guess just doesn't make doesn't make sense. And so in true Internet fashion for 2025, we have a two Hall of Fame wide receivers who decided to put in their two cents about what happened, which Adore Sanders. They also happen to be contemporaries of Deon Sanders. One guy competed against Deon. The other guy played and won titles with Deon. That latter guy's name is Michael Irvin. Michael Irvin was sitting around and I guess he needed the back of his guy, Deon. Michael Irvin said on YouTube, he says that Chador Sanders got robbed because the owners colluded to make sure that he didn't get his money. Listen to this. The 50 million dollar robbery of Chador Sanders.
Because that's what I just witnessed everywhere we've seen everything we've seen. Everybody that has seen him play said he is the one or two in this drive. I love Cleveland picking this kid early on, but I can be mad at Cleveland if they played the cards and picked him up in the fifth round. But I surely would like to know how they knew he would still be there in the fifth round. How did they know he still there's nobody picked them? Like, is it collude?
I guess everything a conspiracy theory. And I'm sorry, Michael Irvin. Yeah, there's a lot of people saying that he was one or two. That was before we got into the interview process of things. Right.
Come on. Maybe he wasn't good enough where his talent and his accolades on the football field, maybe they didn't speak loud enough to supplant his interviews. What he said, what has been said.
I don't agree with what Michael Irvin said. I do agree with what you're about to hear from Chris Carter. Chris Carter sat down on a podcast as well. All these legends out here podcasting. He was on the Fully Loaded podcast. And Chris Carter said, come on now. Do you really think it's realistic that all these NFL owners would get together and collude against your door? Sanders for what? He said, hey, how the hell do you keep such a secret?
Hey, you can't. Everybody got a big mouth. He said that these NFL owners ain't thinking about another guy. They're thinking about themselves. If they wanted your door, they just draft them. And then Chris Carter made some more sense. Listen to this. Every owner is very, very selfish.
Now, why would I do something to my detriment? But if I need a quarterback and I think this kid is it, what he didn't realize is the guys that have fallen in the draft before, they all had unusual traits. Like they had some superstar qualities to them. Now, some other things happen that made them fall. But Chidor and his family, they overplayed their hand. Them thinking that he was in the same evaluation mode as Eli Manning. They they didn't play that right. Them trying to narrow the teams that he was going to go to. That didn't do right.
Not working out the combine. That wasn't the right thing. His interview process. Obviously, he could have done a lot better than that. A lot of people left that meeting felt he was very, very entitled.
Yeah. That makes that makes a whole hell of a lot more sense than he got robbed from 50 million dollars because of his his stock falling in the draft. And Chris Carter makes sense. He, Chidor Sanders, they, the Sanders family, they overplayed their hand. They thought that they'd have a little bit more control of the situation and it ended up biting them in the backside.
That seems a whole hell of a lot more realistic. And we've seen guys in the NFL send emails and send messages. I just find it hard to believe, as Michael Irvin said, that there was collusion to keep him from getting drafted higher in the draft. So what happened?
Somebody sat down. They didn't learn from John Gruden sending nasty messages about Damore Smith and and men and women and black folks. And nobody learned their lesson. Somebody just sat down and sent an email, maybe possibly because people are stupid. Hey, we need to keep Chidor out of the first round.
We need to send Dion a message. And maybe, I don't know, maybe these emails are revealed. I don't know. Maybe they had a secret meeting and over candles and in a dungeon somewhere. I don't know. Maybe they treated this like an episode of He-Man.
I don't know. I don't know what billionaires do when they get together. I just find it hard to believe, as Chris Carter stated. That a bunch of old dudes sat down and was just like.
We need to keep Chidor from getting money. I don't believe it. I find it more likely that they screwed themselves. That seems more likely to me. And now he has to compete for a spot on the Cleveland Browns. Hickey, what do you think between Michael Irvin and then also Chris Carter? What do you find to be more likely?
Chris Carter. I think the first thing he said is 100 percent the truth. Owners are selfish.
They're not going to do anything that hurts them. And so if Chidor was truly the best quarterback in the draft, I don't care what happened in the interviews, what his attitude was like. He would have won number one overall to Tennessee. No doubt about it. Because, again, you see so many players that do so many heinous acts, they get a million chances. Tyra Killstone playing the spot. He's accused of doing all other, you know, offseason or off the field acts along with other players.
But no one is blackballing them or kicking them out for whatever reason. But now Chidor is the guy that everyone says, no, thanks. We all got to draw a hard line on him. Now, if he was good enough. Look, if he was good enough.
And we've talked about this for three days now. If he was good enough, they just go ahead and take him. I don't know. Maybe Michael Irvin is sticking up.
Come on now. Michael Irvin. He knows the guy. I'm sure he knows the guy personally.
You know, he ain't going over to the house. They're not having phone calls and conversations like Michael Irvin is just he's going to say whatever. And by the way. Is Michael is Michael Irvin. He's not on TV anymore.
Then you have a then you also have a case of sexual assault. And now he's been gone. Right. I believe he's back on TV. OK. And the reshuffling that Fox Sports did, I believe he's on the show that Joy Taylor. Oh, OK. At least maybe only during football season, possibly.
But I think he's there. A good chunk of the fall, at least. Hey, I can't I can't keep up, man.
It's been a lot of turnover. Yeah. For a lot of interesting. Well, wow. All Hickey is sex. The downfall of mankind.
Is that what it is? It's just sex. Seemingly destroys everything. Lives, careers, relationships. I'd give J.R. wisdom and tell people don't have sex. But then we stop existing. And in the year twenty twenty five, I guess it's always gotten people in trouble, huh?
One of my friends always says you can't be detrimentally horny. And it seems like a lot of people are. Yeah, it is. They just call Shannon Sharpe what it costs them one hundred million dollars. Plus, I mean, who knows?
I mean, if this is going to be on TV again, it could cost them more. Oh, my goodness. Wow. Damn, Hickey. Wow.
I feel like I feel like a lot of people. All these legends that we talked about today, why so many name associations is and Brett Favre in trouble. Michael Irvin in trouble.
Shannon Sharpe in trouble. Oh, my goodness gracious. Hickey, I'm going to rip my eyeballs out, OK? That's what I'm going to do. Can't get in trouble that way. Can't get in trouble if I rip my eyeballs out.
Disconnect from the Internet. OK, it's the J.R. Sportbreeze show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. We're going to take a break when we come back. We're going to talk about a team. Well, I want to know if they're still contenders. I want to know if they're rebuilding. I want to know what they're going to pay Brock Purdy. I want to know what they're going to do now that they paid George Kittle. I want to know what they do or what their plans are now that they dumped all the veterans. We're going to talk about the 49ers.
Like, what are the expectations for them? Given all the injuries and changes in contracts, we're going to have a chat with Larry Krueger from KNBR on the other side of the break. We'll get some insight as to what the 49ers did today and what we can expect into the future. You're locked in to the J.R. Sportbreeze show on the Infinity Sports Network. You're listening to the J.R. Sportbreeze.
It is the J.R. Sportbreeze show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. Yeah, Shadore Sanders showed up to work today. Michael Irvin is screaming that he was robbed of 50 million dollars by not being drafted in the first round.
He's basically, uh, you got to show up and prove it at work every day. If Shadore has a bad day, they say, hey, no thanks. Bye. Goodbye. We got Gillen Gabriel, Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Deshaun Watson.
We don't need you. Today, somebody was gifted. You know what? Not gifted. Somebody earned, somebody got themselves a new contract today. Nobody going to say he's getting robbed. He's already established himself as an NFL player. He's going to be in one uniform, it looks like for an entire decade, and he got paid.
His name is George Kittle. We know the San Francisco 49ers have gone through a lot of changes this season. And George Kittle was just rewarded with a four year seventy six point four million dollar contract. He is making nineteen point one million dollars a year.
That's one hundred thousand dollars more per season than Trey McBride, who just reset the market with the Arizona Cardinals. So to talk about Kittle's new contract, what this means for Brock Purdy, what we can expect from the 49ers who were decimated by injuries last year. Joining us right now is someone who covers the 49ers, talks to 49ers on KNBR out in the Bay Area, as well as on YouTube, on The Krug Show.
It's Larry Kruger. Larry, how are you, man? I'm doing fantastic. Thanks for having me.
Absolutely appreciate the time. Well, we finally got or at least heard about this deal getting done today. No surprise that George Kittle making just one hundred thousand dollars more than Trey McBride. Not a surprise that they got this done when they did.
No? You know, it really isn't a surprise. I mean, Kittle, you know, I think has stated many times he'd like to be a lifelong niner.
It's a very difficult thing to do, as you know. And I'm sure he was willing to play ball with them. I mean, this is a deal.
I think it was a deal that the 49ers felt they probably needed to get done for a lot of reasons. He's a really good player. He's really popular with the fans. He's pretty much the locker room leader.
And he's, you know, he's a guy that they wanted to take care of and he wanted to be here. So now he's the highest paid tight end in pro football. He's coming off an all pro season.
So he probably is quite deserving. When you think about what's next, obviously everybody's taking a look at Brock Purdy and what his contract might look like. Obviously, you have Dak Prescott, who's making 60. You have the Burroughs of the world and the Lawrence's who in that 55 range. Where do you think Brock Purdy will ultimately land?
You know, it's the ultimate question. I think it's, I think the Jared Goff contract in neighborhood I think is probably a good neighborhood for him. You know, Goff signed four years, 212 million, 170 million guaranteed, 53 million AAV. And if you, you know, if you go cost of living increases, maybe an AAV around 57.9, something like that. You know, the interesting thing to me is, will it be a three year deal in that 175 range or will it be more of like a four year deal, you know, north of 230. But I think Brock's probably looking at very similar structure to what Goff got.
You know, maybe took maybe a little bit of an account for, you know, prices going up over time. Larry Krueger is here with us on the JR Sport Reshow, covers all things 49ers on KNBR as well as the crew show on YouTube. We saw the San Francisco 49ers let go of a lot of notable names to clear out room ultimately for Brock Purdy's contract and Kittle. Are they still contenders? And they had to deal with a lot of injuries to Hifanga last year and McCaffrey. What are your thoughts on on how they move forward? Well, you know, it's interesting, I mean, they did move off of a number of players and they didn't replace them that much in free agency. They just had a very deep draft class.
But as you know, rookies are very speculative and sometimes it takes a year, sometimes it takes two years, sometimes it takes three years. So, you know, they're hoping like if you talk to John Lynch, Kyle Shanahan, if you talk to anybody around the organization, they they feel like with the schedule they're playing that they're going to be able to win nine or 10 games, get in the playoffs. And then, you know, they're going to be they'll be one of the teams that has a lot of experience. You know, Brock Purdy has played in the Super Bowl.
Kyle Shanahan has coached multiple Super Bowls. So I think they feel, you know, maybe the standards are not quite as high just because they turned it over a little bit. But, you know, I still think they're they think of themselves as a 10 win football team. When you look at some of the talent, Christian McCaffrey dealing with that, those Achilles and calf issues last year, we saw Brandon Ayuk go down with the leg. Deebo Samuel is now out. Is there going to be more of an adjustment from whatever is expected from Brock Purdy, given what we saw last year into this season? Well, you know, I mean, last season he really didn't have Ayuk for very long. He didn't have Christian McCaffrey for very long. You know, Deebo wasn't quite the same guy. I mean, those guys, that trio of weapons, they're dropped in touchdown production by 40 touchdowns from the year prior. So, you know, you can make the argument that he really didn't have those guys last year. Now, at least he'll have a younger cast.
But they're unproven guys. It's Ricky Pearsall, a former number one pick. It's Jacob Cowling. It's Jaun Jennings.
It's George Kittle. It's going to be a few more new faces, though. And, you know, we'll put more pressure on Brock and we'll see how he adjusts to it. I thought last year at times he tried to kind of take over the whole thing and run and make big plays.
And in the second half of the year, the second half turnovers really caught up with him. Well, Larry, when you talk about familiar faces, it looks like, well, it doesn't look like. No, it doesn't look like. Rob Salah is back with the San Francisco 49ers. You talk about the draft. We saw Mikel Williams from Georgia is now a member of the 49ers.
What can we expect from this defense now that Rob Salah is back in the second stint? Well, he's a great defensive coach, but as you know, it's a players league. So it's really they you know, they hope that they've improved their run defense significantly. Mikel Williams, they felt like was the best run defender among the defensive ends in the draft. Like Alfred Collins, when Collins was on the field at Texas last year, I think they give up like two point nine a carry. You know, they really like CJ West quite a bit, who was great at Kent State and then he was great last year for Indiana. So they've been drafted five defensive players at the top of the draft and they're hoping to stop the run to start off.
And then after that, you know, we'll see where it goes from there. But if you don't stop the run in the NFL, you know, it's it's a long day at the office. Well, Larry, when you think about some of the players that are gone, I have moved on from the 49ers. Is there one player that you think that they're really going to miss this upcoming season?
Well, I mean, there's no question. I know he just got hurt this week in Denver, but Trey Greenlaw is a lion. I mean, he is just ferocious. He plays, you know, he plays for keeps, you know, and he's just an amazing, amazing player. He's a tone setter.
He's a violent player who's a smart player as well. So, you know, his body is starting to betray him now. And unfortunately, he just pulled a quad. So he may be derailed a little bit in Denver. But yeah, they're going to miss him quite a bit. I mean, he's there's there aren't a lot of great green laws in this league. I mean, guys that can diagnose properly, correctly, down after down.
You can break down in space against an athlete and bring that guy to the ground nine out of 10 times. He's a leader and he's a tone setter. They're going to miss him.
Larry Krueger here with us on the J.R. sport re-show Coast to Coast. You think about someone moving into his second year, Ricky Pearsall, just what a tragedy to open up his NFL career last year out in Union Square, comes back from from being shot, gets back out onto the football field with no Debo. And are you coming off of an injury? Is he not going to be leaned upon heavily to produce right out of the gate?
Well, there's no question. And he knows that he's working really hard this offseason. He's been working out with Brock Pury.
He's been working out with Jacob Cowing. Yeah, he was a first round pick and he really had a fantastic last couple of games. I think he's going to be a very prolific receiver just because he's such a great route runner.
He has such great short area of quickness and hands and ball skills. And him and Purdy, when they get on the same page, I think it's going to be a pretty tough combo to stop. I'm not sure if it's going to be a downfield combo, but I think in that five to 12 yard range, I think it could be very prolific.
We talked about Brock Purdy and where his contract may lie. How long do you think it will be before we get this done? Will this get pushed to the wire of training camp? Is it something sooner than that?
What are your thoughts? Well, you know, I just read a couple articles this afternoon saying that they expect that it will get done by camp. But, you know, I really just don't believe that Brock Purdy is not going to be there in May when the team hits the field for the first full roster OTAs. I just you know, he's such a competitive guy and I just I know that about him. I just don't see him allowing Mac Jones to step into his spot and run his team.
They're friendly, but it's competitive. And I just think if you're going to put a deadline down, knowing Brock, I would say the deadline is the day this team hits the field because he has to be he has to be signed to be on the field. But he in his mind, he's got to be on the field.
So I expect him to be signed by then. When you think about the NFC West, we've had some some Rams here on the show. There's a full expectation that they're going to go for it and shock people and compete for a Super Bowl. We see Seattle with their new quarterback and Sam Donald also having Jalen Murrow in the background. Arizona, a full year of Kyler Murray. They're expecting some things. Where do you think the 49ers will fit in in this NFC West?
Is it, hey, let's get into a wild card at minimum and compete with our experience, as you mentioned? Or do you think they can still go out there and maybe, I don't know, just say, hey, look, we know you're the Eagles, but we can get you to. Yeah, I mean, last year was a rough year for the 49ers.
They had a lot that went wrong. The Super Bowl hangover, the schedule. I think you're going to see a rejuvenated 49er team. And I would be very surprised if the 49ers did not win the NFC West. Now, that being said, it's a division that's on the rise, and it's on the rise because of continuity. You've got really good continuity in the general manager spot, Mani Austin, Ford, John Schneider, Les Kneade, John Lynch. You've got some really, really good continuity there and some excellent coaches in this division as well. So I think the division overall is everybody's pointing in the up direction.
But I would expect those young 49ers to kind of surprise some people this year because if you really look at a lot of the key spots, they're pretty veteran in those spots and still, you know, a lot of top tier players. OK. You made a lot of 49er fans happy because people are looking at the talent that's out the door and they're just like, how are we going to compete? So, Larry, thank you for coming, Brian. You know, providing some optimism. Hey, anytime.
Anytime. And please fill everybody again where we can follow you and listen to you in the Bay Area, online, across the country. Tell us.
Yeah. You know, I'm on KNBR. You can catch me. I host Niners nightly on KNBR from 6 to 7 p.m. West Coast throughout the season, throughout the full calendar year. I'm on the pre and postgame show on KNBR. And then you can find me on YouTube, The Krug Show on YouTube. And we talk Niners really 24 seven all year long.
And, you know, put out millions and millions of views throughout the month. Hey, when Brock gets the deal done, tell him, you know, I wouldn't mind. What do you give away? Toyota's to all the linemen, right? That's right. What is he going to do with the big money coming in? Everybody gets a Bentley. What is he going to do next? Seriously.
I mean, you know, he's going to have to he's going to have to maybe maybe Toyota's going to have to do him do another solid, maybe maybe Toyota's for the entire roster. Oh, my goodness. Well, Larry, just make sure one ends up in Atlanta for me, OK? Deal.
I'll check it out. Hey, thank you so much, Larry. We'll catch you on down the line, OK?
Sounds good. Thanks for having me. No doubt about it. That Larry Krueger, you just heard him host all things 49ers on KNBR, as well as The Krug Show on YouTube.
It's the JR Sport Brief Show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. Let me tell you that NFC West is it is it's packed. The Rams are trying to go for it, trying to squeeze whatever they could get out of Stafford while he is still their quarterback.
Seattle. I got all that much hope in them. I don't believe in Sam Donald. He just had his career year.
Ain't no bounce back. I'd be shocked if Sam Donald was their quarterback for more than two years. He may not even last this year, if I'm being honest. I don't believe in in Gollum-Murray.
Sorry, I don't believe in Gollum-Murray. And so San Francisco, I think at minimum, I know Larry believes that they'll go out there and win the NFC West. I think it'll be a fight between both they and the Los Angeles Rams and whatever team doesn't make it in by winning the division. I think they'll ultimately get in via wild card. It's just a stark contrast and difference from what we've gotten over the past few years with the 49ers, where they have just been flat and period Super Bowl contenders. Not this year. People look at the big bad eagles and go, who's going to knock them off of the perch? Especially if you're taking a look at the NFC.
They are undoubtedly the top dog. It's the J.R. Sportbreeze show on the Infinity Sports Network, 888-710-4ISN. That's 888-710-4ISN. You know, speaking of a team that just lost Sam Donald, J.J. McCarthy spoke today. Voluntary mini camp going on for a lot of teams across the league. And J.J. McCarthy had his first public press conference since the surgery, since things went down. We'll hear from J.J. McCarthy on the other side of the break. I want to tell you about some of these rookies and the excitement level that's there for a lot of them. I'll explain. We'll talk some NBA as the league is trying to adjust its All-Star game.
So we got a lot to do. You're listening to the J.R. Sportbreeze. It is the J.R. Sportbreeze show on the Infinity Sports Network. Hey, thank you oh so much to Larry Krueger for joining us in the last break. Covers all things San Francisco 49ers out in the Bay Area for KNBR.
And the Krueger show on YouTube. Yeah man, you just heard this from Rich Ackerman in the break. I'm kind of depressed. Maybe I need to cheer up. There's still time. It is overtime with the Milwaukee Bucks and the Indiana Pacers. The Bucks lead 112 to 109. There's about a minute 20 left in the game. It's now 112 to 111. Just a few minutes ago it was 112-106 and I'm like you got to be kidding me.
Why? Get the Milwaukee Bucks the hell up on out of here. Like get it over with.
Like we don't need to be out here delaying the inevitable. Right now Giannis Atteracumpo is leading the entire way for the Milwaukee Bucks. Putting them on his back. 28 points, 19 rebounds, 12 assists. Gary Trent Jr. stepping up in a big way. Hot shooting. 30 points. And so he's getting help.
He's getting help. Bobby Porter is 14-10. Right now the Indiana Pacers just trying, trying to close out the Milwaukee Bucks at home. Right now it's 117-111. It's just, it looks like the Bucks are going to take this game.
Make it a 3-2 series. And unless there's a miracle here it just appears that the Pacers are not going to be able to close things out. Tyrese Halliburton which is apparently one-fourth of the NBA voted in as the most overrated guy in the league. 21 points, 9 assists. Pascal Siakam invisible today. 10 points, 3 rebounds.
Miles Turner 21. Oh man. I'm just trying to get the series over with. I'm like, Bucks ain't winning the series. Just finish them off.
I know you love to rush them out to Cancun. Look, I'm intrigued. I'm intrigued by game six in Milwaukee as Doc Rivers tries to turn the old 3-1 tables around on everyone else. You want to see, you want to see how many 30-point-20 rebound triple-double games Giannis can have, huh? That's also true because, I mean, how many left are in a Bucks jersey, J.R.? Probably not many. Not a lot. I don't think so, man.
I'm with you on that one. Anyway, what are the Knicks doing? Are they losing? They're winning at halftime.
How about that? New York Knicks winning at halftime? By one. Okay, alright. Close call. Close call.
They were at home. New York Knicks need to handle business against the Pistons and if they do, their fans will celebrate tonight like they won game seven of the NBA Finals. So, we'll see what those fans do. They finally finished all that construction outside, huh? And that's what's allowed the fans to now gather in masses because there's no cranes, walls, tight walkways. There's open space.
I assume you've been by there a bunch. Is it cool? Is that right?
It's, I mean, yeah, it's okay. Yeah. They got the little, they got the plaza. They kept the street on the side closed so fans can gather and be more idiots, right? Yes, exactly. It's cool, but, I mean, for all the years of construction, it's whatever.
Now, here's a better question. When you come from underneath the subway station, I know across the street is nice, but directly underneath the garden, when you get off the train, is that still a hell hole? It's a little bit nicer.
The mall, I'm talking about that mall where it is, here's a CVS and now you got to step over 20 people and it's dirty and dark. Is that, it's still nasty looking? It's a little bit nicer.
That's where a good amount of construction has been gone into. Okay. So, yes, no, there's no, it's actually cleaned up a little bit. That's probably the nicest part now. Wow.
Okay. Nice little one escalator goes up, little atrium over. It looks nice as you go right, yeah. So, no, no, when I was, Hickey, do you understand when I was a kid, I'd go to a Knicks games and it would just be like going through the eighth layer, eighth dimension of hell just to get to the subway.
I saw things as a child I shouldn't have seen, man. And that little, that little stairway, like right into the garden before you go through security and it's just like, it's like, why are these people allowed to sleep here? And why is it so dark?
Why is it dirty? Are the homeless people still there, unfortunately? Are they still there?
They are, but now with the renovations to Penn Station and MSG, they are trying to, we'll say, relocate them. Relocate them. So, they got better places to sleep now. Good for them. That's one way to look at it, yeah.
They got a nice little upgrade to the bedroom for free. Yeah, no thanks, Hickey. No thanks.
No thanks. New York City's not calling your name, huh? Nah, one day, one day I'll go back and see it, but no time soon. I think the last time I went to Madison Square Garden was for a Rangers game.
Okay. It's been a while, Hickey. Been a while. The Rangers were in the playoffs.
It doesn't mean that was that long ago. Right now they're looking for a new coach, but it's been a while. We'll see. I think I might have been in the Barclays Center more recently than I've been in the Garden. Make do with what you can.
Anyway. 8-8-8, 7-10, 4-I-S-N. That's 8-8-8, 7-10, 4-I-S-N. Now down to 30 seconds here. Milwaukee leads 118 to 114. We'll keep you up to date on that game as it continues on. Briefly speaking of the NBA and the All-Stars of the league. The commissioner, Adam Silver, spoke yesterday and he talked about changing around the All-Star game, which we already knew just sucked. He said they're considering utilizing a United States of America versus the world type format. Not going to be in a tournament style.
It's not going to be a bunch of mini games. They want to figure out how they can utilize the talent in the states versus all of their international players. 125 players out of 450 this past season were from outside the United States of America. That's 43 countries, six different continents. And that might very well be the only way that you get guys from the United States of America to show up because they don't want to be embarrassed. And yeah, there is pride coming from the United States of America, at least from a basketball perspective. That might be the little flame that ignites some type of competitive situation.
It's kind of wild. Brian Windhorst from back in February, he said that USA versus the world, he said it wouldn't change anything. We'll play that on the other side of the break. Hickey, I'm not I'm not all that I don't agree with him. Like he says it wouldn't change. Like why? I think it would. I just at this point, with so many different variations of the All-Star game, so many different formats and nothing really sticking at this point, I got to see it before I believe it. Because if the players don't care, then what's going to work? If Giannis and Jokic and you know. Doncic, maybe they would they don't want to be the guys wouldn't want to be embarrassed.
That's what I think it is like. They would play hard against Team USA because they're not beating them in any other place and they're getting close to beating them. I think they would be forced that the American players would be forced to play hard because Giannis and these other dudes, Shay Gilgas, Alexander, you put all these guys on one team, they're going to come for their heads. They're going to look at this as, hey, this is the one time that we can go out there and whoop America's ass.
And I think it would be legitimate. I think it was the one player that said that they do too much on the All-Star game. They're tired.
Remember that? That's what I wonder if this is going to be the case. Anthony Edwards. Someone's like, we do too much, too much media, too much this, that. Maybe it's Draymond Green. Someone said it. Right. Right. Maybe that's the case. How many times has Draymond been in All-Star?
Four times? True. But he's there, unfortunately, too much.
I know this this past year, he was just running his yap, complaining about it. You know, we'll talk more about this on the other side. We'll give you an update on the NBA games. We're here from J.J. McCarthy. He said he's ready to start.
We got a lot to do. It's the J.R. sport re-show, the Infinity Sports Network.
