It is the JR Sport Brief Show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. I'm coming to you live from Atlanta, Georgia. Thank you to everybody listening all over North America. Happy Thursday to you.
Yeah, right. We're getting closer to the weekend. I'll be hanging out with you for one more hour. The show gets started every weekday, 6 p.m. Eastern, 3 Pacific, and we have had one hell of a show.
Hey, thank you so much to Nick Bumgartner, covers all things NFL draft for the athletic. He came through and joined us last hour. Thank you so much to Kevin Gray from the DLLS Mavericks Podcast to talk about what took place last night as Luca cried and then Luca decided to light up the Mavericks for 45 points. And then we have another guest. She will be joining us in about 20 minutes from now because the Masters, they are underway. We're going to have a conversation with Alexis Belton. She is a professional golfer.
She also does some amazing things in the world of golf to help just bridge people together. I'm looking forward to having this chat with Alexis in about 20 minutes. Is Scottie Scheffler going to win again? I mean, what's going to happen with Rory McIlroy?
Is he actually going to show up in a big moment? We'll ask her in about 20 minutes. If you want to be a part of the show, you can do that. Here's the phone number 888-710-4ISN.
That's 888-710-4ISN. Yeah, we have talked about a lot. NFL draft. We've talked about the NBA, which thank God the season is just about over. I've been waiting on this for a while. Man, find me online at JR Sport Brief.
If you missed a minute or a second of the show, go ahead and hit rewind on the free Odyssey app. Hickey, I'm glad the season is over. I gotta be honest. I'm glad, man.
Why is that? Well, at least the regular season. Yeah, I'm ready for the playoffs.
Like, I am ready. I don't need to see any more bad basketball. Let's get the bum ass teams out of here. I don't know. Utah Jazz have been ready for months. Washington, what the hell are they doing?
God only knows. Let's get to some real ball. I want to see what the Celtics do. I want to see what the Golden State Warriors do. You know, now that they have Jimmy Butler, as much as I don't want to see him succeed, I'd love to see Steph Curry go off.
I like there's so many questions and then it's like the sun spent all that money. They are officially eliminated. Kevin Durant is hurt.
Hickey, that's I just want to get down to brass tacks. Like what the hell is going on? Like right now we got the Indiana Pacers outside of somebody in the East having a major injury. What am I getting out the Pacers? Nothing. You can get a first round win. That means anything.
I just got to be real. There's some teams that unless there's injuries, I'm like, what are they doing? Who cares? Pacers are one of those teams. You like the Knicks. I like the Knicks. Is anything about the Knicks make you?
Yeah, there was so much excitement when they got all the the wings and McHale bridges. And now it's just like Boston Celtics are smoking if they're healthy. In the East, every team not named the Cavs and the Celtics likes it. You're just praying for an injury. Otherwise they have no chance. Pacers, Knicks, Bucks, Pistons, whoever may be. I'm with you. We might as well just throw the Cavs and the Celtics in the East Finals.
I think fast forward right to there. I think even the Knicks have certainly taken care of Cleveland in the past. I mean, they had Jared Allen. He's just like, yeah, they had our number. We weren't ready. We were intimidated. He actually said that.
I'm shocked he did, but that came out of his mouth. But if this season, if the Knicks end up playing the Cavs, I think the size of the Cavs would kind of do them in. And then in the West, Hickey, this is what I'm interested in the West. I want to see what the Lakers can do.
That's it. I just want to see what LeBron and Luca, I don't think they, I still don't believe they have enough size. I just want to know what OKC does, what the Lakers do.
And outside of that, maybe I'm missing somebody, but I'm not all that enthralled in the West. I am intrigued by the Warriors to see what it looks like. I think them and the Lakers to me, I'm skeptical, but I'm intrigued. Here's one team that I'm actually fascinated by.
I'm not going to say I'm believing, but I'm going to take a flyer and I'm at least intrigued. How about the Clippers? Oh, Kawhi is playing basketball. He is. He's healthy. He's playing well. Hard and triple doubles. I mean, I don't trust really either of them in the case of Kawhi to stay healthy and hard and come playoff time at any time, put pressure on him.
He just completely melts. We got a great head coach in Tyloo. I think the Thunder will come out of the West. The West, I'm much more intrigued by number one. And number two, I think the Clippers could be an interest. I think they're one of those teams that would be a really tough out. No one's really talking about them.
No one has them on their radar. I think they could be one of those tough teams here come April and May. We're like, oh man, this is a, even if the Thunder play and then make it out, like this is a brutal series.
So it's wild. The Rockets are the number two seed in the West. They have a record of 52 and 28.
They're right there behind. I mean, the Thunder have 66 wins on the season. I guess for the Rockets led by Imei Udonka, we know why he's not a coaching the Celtics anymore. If you don't know, he was sleeping with an employee that he wasn't supposed to sleep with, but the Rockets, nobody talks about them. I guess it's just a matter of youth. Like who the hell is trusting them to go all the way?
The answer is nobody. But this is probably going to be a good experience, a good first year, I guess I could say for this Rockets team. I wouldn't trust them, but they're going to go to the playoffs and there'll be a tough out.
I expect them to be eliminated, but I think it's worthwhile to at least give them a mention to see how they can continue to grow. Eventually somebody has to step up and be the ultimate closer on the Rockets. I always thought it should be Jalen Green.
I just think he is so inefficient. Alperin Sangoon, I don't know how much he can operate on a consistent basis to just always be the guy and just dominate a game. And I think it's a guard driven league, a ball handler driven league. I mean, yeah, Kevin Durant, nobody's going to call this guy a center. He's just a giant shooting guard. And I just think you have to have somebody who just controls the game.
And I don't know if Alperin Sangoon is that guy. And so in the West, I want to see the Thunder. I want to see the Lakers. I have no faith in the Nuggets.
I think Jokic is going to run himself crazy. The Clippers will be interesting. The Grizzlies, no. Warriors will be fun. Timberwolves, are they there for another run?
The West will be fun. The East, I'm just like, meh. Pistons, no thank you.
The Magic, no thank you. The Bucks, who cares? Apparently Damian Lillard is looking good. Pacers, yeah, it's a tough go round on the Eastern Conference.
The West is going to be where it's fun. But Hickey, before you know it, for all this talk that we're having about the NFL draft, we're going to blink. The NBA is going to have its draft lottery. Everybody will start talking about Cooper Flagg and what miserable team that he's going to be destined to go to. And we'll see Cooper Flagg in the NBA as soon as October. And hopefully he's not plying his trade for, I don't know, the Pelicans.
He's going to end up some miserable, sad sack team. When's the lottery again? Is it during the first round? I don't know when that date is. I think they do.
I feel like they do. They do it in the first or second round. I don't remember. I know they do a lot of the awards during, is it round one or two?
It's kind of in that. One of the two. May. It's a month away. May 15th. NBA draft lottery, May 12th. Okay, here we go. About a month away. Today's the 10th, it's going to be the 12th. We'll know the fate of Cooper.
And you know what? To be honest, everybody here in Atlanta, we were all shocked last year when the Hawks ended up with the number one overall pick. We didn't have, I don't even know what the odds were, but we weren't in that top three.
I know they've now split the odds. The top three teams have an equal share of potentially ending up with the number one pick. I think it's about 14% for every team. And the NBA did that to try to prevent tanking. I don't think it slowed teams down. Have you seen the Jazz?
Full tank is pretty much all year long. I just hope that Cooper flag can go somewhere. Did I call him Cup again, Hickey? Did I do that? No, you said flag. I said flag. You're Coupless so far today.
We are Coupless. That guy is, he's gonna be out of work. Well, he's not out of work. Where did he end up? Some nowhere team? Seattle? Seattle Seahawks. Back home.
Oh my God. This man, Sam Donald will be right in front of him, getting ready to throw the ball. I can see the ball ended up in the linebacker's hands right now. Slant over the middle.
Oh, where did that linebacker come from? Yeah. Yeah. And Cooper Cup is just standing there going, this is what I left LA for.
This is why they got rid of me. But anyway, Cooper flag is going to be, he'll be in a good spot. Good luck to him because they got this. Is this game on TV right now meaningless? The Pacers are beating the Cavs 113 to 107. What's the purpose of this game? That's a great question. Nothing here for Cleveland, right?
I don't know. Well, Cleveland's already locked up number one. Indiana's trying to do something, I guess. I feel like they are for the most part locked in two. Maybe it's about home court.
Trying to be competitive, I gather. We'll see what they do. They're two games up on the Pistons, so this matters. Three games to go. Do you want to play the Pacers?
Or they're, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I lied. They need to win out.
Knicks need to lose out if they want the three. Okay. All right. When does it see, is it Sunday we get this crap over with? Sunday. Let's see. Maybe I go to the Hawks game once.
Oh my God. Hawks are beating the Brooklyn Nets. Remember yesterday we said we don't owe nobody on the Nets. The Hawks are beating them 87 to 60. Yikes. Let's see what these Hawks are doing.
Maybe I go see them lose for one more time before the year is up. On Sunday, hickey. How about this? Yeah.
The Orlando Magic at one o'clock. Okay. Oh, good for me. I'll make that stop early. Have me a couple mimosas before I go to the game.
Pop in and pop out. Pretty sure. That appreciation day? I guess so, right?
You would think. I mean, you can't expect that to win two playing games to get a home game. A one, hickey, a one o'clock game on a Sunday in Atlanta? You like that? Hickey, there will be, it'll be me there and Trae Young on the bench. Trae Young on the bench.
That's their game, man. People will be at church. There'll be sleep. It's a beautiful Sunday. It's supposed to be a beautiful day.
Hickey, you are 100% correct. Hawks versus Magic, Sunday, April 13th, 1 p.m. Fan appreciation night. All right. Join us as we celebrate the fans during our last home game. And what are we giving away?
A phone card holder. Okay. Oh, okay. All fans will receive a phone card holder.
All right. Now I've been told that, and we celebrated it here, that we were in the play in. Why it was celebrated, I have no idea. I don't even know if we get another home game after this to be honest.
I have no idea. Well, you got to win two, right? Yeah, but one at home and then one on the road. So I guess, yeah, I guess you just, we got one more home game. I'm probably not going, so I will go on Sunday. I will bid farewell to all the wonderful employees of the Atlanta Hawks in the arena.
I'll tell them, I'll see them maybe once or twice at a concert in the summertime and then outside of that, CEO in October. Well, they're only half game up right now in the Bulls from falling from eight to nine, which means they played two road games in the play and assuming they lose the first one. Oh wow. So you're telling me that Trae Young is going to play on Sunday? He has to, and the season. Yes, he has to.
Yes. Man, they put him out there with a bunch of nobodies. Like how Trae Young shows, well, it's a lot of money. Oh my God.
He's going to lose more hair than he already lost around. Poor guy. Poor guy. That's got to go.
Come on. Have you seen these guys he plays with? Yeah, some of them. Do you know who they are? Do you know these guys? I don't think, I don't think I can name you two Hawks right now outside of Trae Young.
I can say Reshar Se. Yeah, the number one pick from last year. I don't think right now. We traded for Karis Lavert.
Oh, okay. We have Terrence Mann. We have George Niang.
We got a guy on the team named Kretche. You know who that is? No. Good. We got a guy named Mo Gay. You ever heard of him?
I have not. No. Okay. Who's the other big guy from California? I don't even know his name.
I don't know. Yep. That's the team. That's the Hawks right there. Bogdanovich is not there anymore, right? Nah, he sent him to LA.
He plays with Kawhi now, yeah. Wow. What a world. Yeah, same as I have not watched much Hawks basketball this year. You ain't missing nothing.
You're not missing nothing. Geez, that's a... No wonder why the fans don't show up. My goodness. I got choices now on Sunday. I want you to do I have my mimosa before the game or after? Go before because if it's a good time, just stay and skip the game, you know?
Oh, what? Mimosas? Skip the game? I'm saying if you go get a mimosa before and you're having a good time, just skip the game.
Why leave? It's festival season. We got a big festival here in Atlanta over the weekend. Can't skip the game if you go to the game first, then mimosas after. Although you may need something to drown what you watch. I can do mimosa before and after. Now we're talking. Now this is a great plan. I could do mimosas at the game.
I may do that. Trae Young sprains his ankle slipping on mimosa juice that was spilled on the court. Who did it? I won't be on the floor. I'll be upstairs minding my business. Oh, okay.
I'll be upstairs minding my business. Away from the... Away from trouble. Yeah, yeah, no one... Oh, Richarsay does have 33 points tonight. Yeah, he's good, man. He's a good dude. Zachary Richarsay. He's a good guy.
Yeah, Cooper Flagg's supposed to be better than him, so we'll see. Anyway, it's the JR Sportbree Show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. The Masters is upon us, finally. And yes, there's no Tiger Woods. That was an April Fool's show. And then also, Hickey, before we get to Alexis on the next break, Ken Griffey Jr. has a photographer's credential for the Masters. Did you see that?
I did. I did not know he was in photography, but I did see him today on the course. Very cool. Cool.
So I knew Randy Johnson was into photography. Right. What do they share tips? How many... They must have played, I don't even know how many years together, four, three, five.
What is this? Old guys getting together? They sharing hobbies? I guess so.
Randy must have turned them on to it. Yeah. Pretty cool. Wild stuff.
Hey, whatever keeps you busy. Shout-outs to Ken Griffey. Shout-outs to Randy Johnson too.
Good guy when he's not out there killing birds with a fastball or a slider. We're going to take a break. And when we come back, we'll talk some golf. We're going to have a conversation with Alexis Benton. Alexis, well, she's a professional golfer. Alexis also does some amazing work helping the community utilizing golf. I'm going to ask Alexis about everything and the Masters, is Sheffler going to win again? Is Rory going to stink?
And then I want to know about some of the endeavors that she is working on. Oh, it's that time of the year. Spring is here. It's time for some golf. It's the JR Sport Reshow Coast to Coast on the Infinity Sports Network. You are listening to the JR Sport Brief.
It's the JR Sport Reshow here with you Coast to Coast on the Infinity Sports Network. We know Masters weekend is here. We're getting ready for the golf.
And right now we're going to have a chat with someone who's very familiar all things golf. Not only does she play golf, she's a three-time World Long Drive champion. She's a philanthropist. She's helping people. She's bridging together golf in the world to help people.
Media personality. It's Alexis Belton. Alexis, how are you?
I'm doing well. Thank you so much for having me on the show and super excited to talk all things sports and how it impacts the world. Absolutely.
And I want to get into a museum that you're helping to do. Always doing something good in the world of sports utilizing golf. But before we get there, Masters week, Masters weekend, is Scottie Shuffler just going to go out there and win another one?
Like what should we expect? We don't know, right? I think a safe bet is Scottie Shuffler, but then you're looking at a lot of young guys. You know, Rory's won a couple of tournaments this year. If he can get down his putting, he might be in contention when it comes on Sunday, but it's just Thursday. So in the world of Masters, as we've seen year and year again, anything can happen when it comes, especially to a man corner and finishing out the round. Alexis Belton is here with us on the JR sport re-show.
You mentioned Rory McIlroy. I feel like this man has been on almost a 10 year gap between finally getting over the hump and winning the big one. Is it all in between his ears?
What's the holdup? I mean, it has to be, right? I mean, I have no idea what's going on with someone of that caliber of skill. And he's got everything that you could possibly imagine. I mean, if we're building, you know, if we're on 2K building our best athlete, it probably looked like Rory because he's got things that Tiger has, he's got things that Scottie has, he has things that some of the best short game players in the world have.
It has to be in between the ears. And so I'm rooting for him. Alexis, you golf, you go out there and get the job done. You talk about the course down at Augusta. And we know, unfortunately, that there was the hurricanes, the issues, it was a little wet earlier in the week. How do you expect kind of the climate and the temperature to affect what we see over the weekend? You know, we had a little rain on Monday here in Augusta.
Now the sun is out. I got a chance to play this morning and I think it's gonna be perfect conditions. Obviously, Augusta's built, I don't think people understand, where they change the temperature of the greens.
Like they have a system that each green can be a different temperature. Their system for irrigation is just out of this world. So I think it's perfect conditions as it always is at the Masters. So you mean it's, I know this is the most prestigious golf course here in this country. You mean to tell me this is like a spaceship? It's not just a golf course, they got all that type of technology underneath there? Technology is everywhere, everywhere.
Wow, that's crazy. We're being joined by Alexis Belton here on the JR Sport Reshow Coast to Coast. All things considered, do you think that there's a dark horse? Who do you favor to walk away with the victory on Sunday? Yeah, I have to go with, I'm from Reston, Louisiana, 318. And I have to go with a fellow Louisianan from the same area. We had the opportunity to practice a lot.
We had the same coach for a while. And I got to go with Sam Burns. Okay, we'll see what happens. It goes down on Sunday. Yeah, he's my dark horse.
Okay, listen, I'm here for a dark horse. Well, tell us about your golf journey. What got you into golf? Yeah, you know, it's, we're talking right now during the Masters week and it's such a beautiful time of the year, but we also have to pay homage to the history that exists here. Earlier this week, I had the opportunity to come and see them unveil one of, you know, a beautiful statue in honor of the caddies. You know, these caddies are the ones that led Arnold Palmer to win three to four Masters. And they never got the recognition that they had, mainly because golf was in this place and space where it was hard for minorities to play the game, even though they're a part of building the game. And so for me, I had that same mentality before I got into the game of golf. My high school teacher asked if I wanted to play. And I said, no, that's for old white men. He said, well, you get out of school all day, you get free food and you can pick your outfits.
And I was like, whoa, nobody told me that. So I had a basketball, a D1 basketball scholarship, fell in love with the game of golf. And even though there's barriers here and there, it has been just a joy to see and learn, get to learn the history, to be a part of the to be a part of the present and to learn where and help the future can go.
Alexis Beltes here, what I saw on the JR sport brief show. Well, you're continuing to help. I know specifically here in Atlanta, but this is applicable to anybody listening all over the country. Tell us about what you're working on right now to kind of get the words out about tough homes and getting that information distributed. Yeah, as we continue to talk about golf and kind of the barriers that a lot of minorities had to cross in order to make the game as, I mean, still have a long way to go, but as diverse and accessible as it is today, tough homes is probably one of the ones that really got the needle moving when it came to golfers playing, minority golfers having the ability to play on public golf courses. But not only that, also parks. And so we talked about parks and recreation. He kind of, he was like, we're not going to stop at golf courses.
We're going to do it all. And his lawyer being Thurgood Marshall, it's just something that as I look back and try to find more and more golf history, it's hard to find. And so when I learned about tough homes and got a chance to see as I connected with them through my foundation Belt and Drive, they showed me a room that just had some posters up about Alfred's tough homes. I called a really good friend, a mentor of mine, Aurelius Cooper, and said, hey, I think that we can do something really special here.
I think that we should build a museum in honor of tough homes. He came by, he saw it. He's like, yes, he grew up in the area. And I'm pretty sure people have the opportunity to hear his story as well. And from there, we have just kind of put together something beautiful being co-founders of how we can build something that's not just about the past, but about the present and helping to build the future.
Alexis Belton here with us on the JR Sport Brief Show Coast to Coast. So what's the status? Where can people find out more information? So learn about what you guys are doing, how they can contribute, what's the word? Yeah, so we are almost finished with the museum.
And it's been just like a joy being able to work with the Holmes Foundation, and the family, as well as Parks and Rec. And so currently, we're almost finished with the museum. Here in a couple of weeks, we're going to do some programming to introduce how people can utilize the space, but more importantly, letting people know.
I mean, sometimes you see a golf course and people are a little bit nervous of being able to go, not thinking that it's for them. And so we'll be inviting people in as soon as it's complete. But we also have a website at tuphomes.com, I believe.
I might have to double check that. But yeah, we're just building currently. And as we're building, we're also trying to invite. I appreciate that. You're doing good works out there. Where can people follow and keep up with you? Because I know this is not going to be the last thing that you work on and do.
Phyllis and Alexis. Yeah, people can find me on social media at my government name. Alexis Nicole Belton Hall government name, as well as LinkedIn, all social platforms, YouTube. I'm really excited to have some fun things coming up in Atlanta on top of this that kind of the reason I'm able to do it all goes back to TUP Homes. But hosting a girls junior girls golf tournament with Peggy Kirk Bell in June, as well as some developmental things. But we've got a lot of fun things that people can follow along.
Just even here in Augusta, we've had the opportunity to just serve the community and make it a place welcome for everybody. Hey, listen, I appreciate what you've done and what you continue to do. Alexis, I appreciate the time we got to get you on more often. I would love that. I love that. No, thank you so much for creating the space and all that you do.
And no problem. I'm just sitting around in my my box talking to the people you out there doing some some good work. Hey, a voice TUP Homes started with the voice.
You know, we look at so many people that have pioneered the way a voice goes a lot further than people think. So that's what you have. And that's what you bring. Well, listen, you got to go get my checks for me now. You got it. I got to send this to the people who pay me, Alexis.
Okay, I'll give you a commission. Don't worry about it. There you go. And shout outs to Alexis for coming through and dropping some knowledge on TUP Homes and the museum that they're putting together, as well as all of the great works in the world of golf. It's the JR Sport Brief Show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief. It is the JR Sport Brief Show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. Thank you so much to Alexis Belton for coming through and filling us in on everything that she got going on and then giving us a little bit of a preview on what we can expect this weekend at the Masters. Hickey, I screwed up, man.
Auguste ain't that far of a drive. Why the heck am I still here? What am I doing here? I need to be out there with her. Yeah, you did drop the ball there. How far is that from you? Three hour drive, three hour less. It's not bad.
Yeah, I messed up on that one, man. Have you ever been? No, I haven't. I have not. That is one place I have not been.
I have not been to Augusta. Missing out. Well, I guess the only thing is, I guess to save some faces, if you don't win the lottery, you're basically not going.
What do you mean? Have you ever seen secondary market prices for the Masters? Oh, Hickey, I wouldn't pay. You must be out your mind. Oh, that's also true.
Okay, I was thinking like you get in the Masters lottery and hope you get selected so you can buy like face value tickets, because otherwise you're basically screwed. I did not even think about, you know, our job, media, credential, duh. So we talked about Ken Griffey Jr. You think Ken Griffey paid? No, no, he's working. I don't know for who, but he's working. I'm pretty sure he's not staying in the media hotel.
How about that? No, you don't think so? Well, maybe he is.
I don't know. Man of the people, hopefully. I mean, he's pretty tall.
I need an extra long bed for him. Rich man of the people, wealthy man of the people. Have you been out there? I ain't been, no. No, never been close. Close I've been is in your hometown or your current town, I should say, in Atlanta. Atlanta, close. So close I've ever been is three hours away. Yeah, I think it may even be depending on traffic. It's just everything depends on traffic out here, you know, just like a lot of places I gather. So we'll see what happens.
Say again? And also depends on who's driving. Oh, well, if you if you're driving with a student from the University of Georgia, you get there in an hour. I'll be there in record time. Okay, here we are. You be there, you'll be there in an hour.
You may get pulled over a few times, but you will be there in an hour. This is when you know the weather has turned. We got the four major championships getting ready to get started here in golf. I'm looking forward to it. And so hickey, I don't know, maybe on Sunday, I have mimosa. I go watch the Hawks final game of the season.
Come back, watch the end of the Masters. Good deal. That sounds like a great Sunday.
Yeah, that's a good deal. What the hell? Atlanta is smoking Brooklyn right now at this minute. Milwaukee is beating the Orleans.
That's another team, hickey. I don't know who's on that team. Zion is there. The other guy that used to play with Damian Lillard is hurt. Damian Lillard is hurt. That's why the season can. Detroit beat the New York Knicks.
But these games, some of them don't matter. You don't even know who's out there playing at this point in time. That's crazy. Yeah, I think the Knicks sat a bunch of players, I'm pretty sure. What, the Knicks rested players? Yeah, I don't think OG played. I think they sat like a few guys.
Oh wow. People give Tom Thibodeau a break for 24 hours, I guess. I was gonna say, they won't give him much of a break, but at least for one day, something heats off of them. You know one team that just hasn't gotten any attention? They've kind of been irrelevant all year, even more relevant past the trade. The Phoenix Suns. Like think about all the money that Matt Ishby is spending on the Suns. Kevin Durant is out. Bradley Beal stinks. Booker is out there with a bunch of bums. This was a team that was supposed to compete for a title.
Well, maybe not. I never believed that they had enough depth, but to even be this bad is pathetic. I mean, I think we just witnessed the worst regular season or the most disappointing regular season in terms of expectations in NBA history.
You're right. Three stars and we'll be generous with Bradley Beal. At least his contract says he's a star. And to not even be one of the top 10 teams in your own conference. Yeah. You know what was pretty disappointing too?
You're talking about history. I know they went to the finals, so how disappointing is it? When the Los Angeles Lakers had Shaq and Kobe, they had Karl Malone and Gary Payton at the end of their careers. And they got beat by the Pistons. So that was pretty disappointing. But they had depth.
But you're right. This team is pretty miserable. Oh, boy, this is terrible. Speaking of miserable, they got the 911 call from Tyreek Hill.
I can't even bother with this crap right now. Hickey, I wish he retired. Can they retire him permanently? Not by sick of him.
I am as well. And this is where my brain goes, honestly, when you said retire. Yeah.
Now that he would have or when he does retire, he'll have more time in his hands. Oh, boy. Not good for him.
That does not seem like a good recipe. You're right. Next thing you know, he'll be doing a podcast with Antonio Brown.
Oh, geez. Yeah, not not what we need. I think these individuals could stand a learner thing or two. Well, I don't even know what Antonio Brown does besides just tweet out craziness on the Internet.
And I don't I don't want to know if Tyreek Hill is too far behind them. But you know what? At the end of every show, I always share with you a few things that took place this day in sports history. And today, I think those two individuals and a matter of fact, a lot of people can learn directly and from one of the guys that we're going to talk about.
So you know what? Let's not waste any more time. It's time to talk about a few things that took place this day in sports history. It's time for this day in sports history. See, back in those days, we had radio and you couldn't see anything and it was primitive and lousy and we liked it on the J.R. Sport Brief Show.
I wish I was 50 years younger and I'd kick your ass. It is the J.R. Sport Brief Show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. Today is April 10th. The year is 2025.
It's been that way all day long. Now it's time to go back to April 10th, 1947, because Jackie Robinson. Yes, he becomes the first black player in the 20th century to sign a Major League Baseball contract.
We know he didn't actually play. He broke the color barrier when he made his debut on April 15th, only a few days after the fact. But today was the day he put pen to paper.
You know what? Let's listen as CBS News reports on the significance of Jackie's first deal before he became an American legend, before he stepped between the lines of a baseball diamond for the first time, breaking the sports color barrier. Jackie Robinson had to do something all ball players do before they can play the game. He had to sign his big league contract. The historic deal made him the first black player in the majors, and now the contract Robinson signed with the Brooklyn Dodgers could go on permanent display. The document is more than the most valuable and important baseball item that ever existed. As Martin Luther King, Jr. said, I didn't start the civil rights movement. Jackie Robinson did.
And these documents are the founding documents of the civil rights movement, man, class dignity. And why can't we? We do have plenty of athletes who exhibit that. And we're always going to have knuckleheads. You don't have to be an athlete.
You can just be a layman walking the street. We got knuckleheads everywhere. I just wish we had more prime examples like that.
But maybe it's just a result of the world and the society that we live in. I mean, a couple of days ago, we talked about and showed love to hammering Hank Aaron and tying Babe Ruth, breaking Babe Ruth's record. Just these dudes were just the epitome of class in the world and a lot of cases that that absolutely hated them. And I mean, just to think about some of the examples that players today make following the footsteps of individuals who paved the way for them is just to a certain degree at certain times heartbreaking. Nobody's perfect.
Nobody. But this is why individuals like like Jackie Robinson, Hank Aaron, they should really be honored for what they did. Hey, let's continue going back in time. April 10th, more recent.
How about April 10th, 2016 or 2016? Excuse me, Jordan Spieth. This man blew it. He had an epic collapse on the back nine of the Masters. He went up from five to down three and the span of three holes as Danny Willett ended up winning the Masters. Now, Jordan Spieth, he didn't win in 2016. He won in 2015. That's the last time he won the Masters. And the last time he won a major was back in 2017 with the open. And so basically that time he blew it at the Masters. Well, he's been kind of empty in that space.
Let's go back to 2016. After the round, Jordan Spieth talked about what went wrong on the back end. This is courtesy of the Golf Channel.
Dream come true front nine. And then I knew par was good enough and maybe that was what hurt me. Just just wasn't quite aggressive at the ball with my three wood, six iron on 10 and then the drive on 11 and then just lapsed in concentration on 12 and it cost me. I didn't I didn't take that extra deep breath and really focus on my line on 12. Instead, I went up and I just put a quick swing on it. Oh, wow.
Well, that sucks for him. I mean, sometimes you got it and when you don't got it, you don't. As we spoke with Alexis Belton, a lot of times for golfers in any sport, you don't have that success.
It's all in between your ears. And there you go. There were a few things that took place this day in sports history.
Today is April 10th, 2025. And how about this? Speaking of golf. I saw the headline here. I'm like, man, Jack Nicklaus is he's a funny guy. He predicts that Tiger Woods will eventually play and dominate the PGA senior tour. Oh, my God.
Here we go. This is what Jack Nicklaus said about Tiger Woods. I think Tiger will get well and Tiger will be back and playing. Tiger will be 50 next year.
I believe he'll probably play the senior tour and he'll probably dominate the senior tour. Tiger is too much of a competitor not to play. I don't think Tiger will play for money. He doesn't need money.
Come on now. If Tiger Woods hears that he just gone, does he roll his eyes just a little bit? Yeah, yeah, he's still Tiger was probably I know he put out that April Fool's joke about competing this weekend. We know he's not. He probably still thinks he has something left in him, right? Do you think he'll actually even go to the senior tour?
You think that'll be too? I'm Tiger Woods. I don't even know senior tour. I'm the great Tiger Woods.
I can compete with the regular. Right. I don't. That's what I don't know. That's a good question. If I were him, I would just focus in on my son.
That's it. Design your golf courses. Put on your little, you know, golf simulator shows on ESPN. Yeah, I don't want to say it be a downgrade for Tiger Woods. But when that's easy for Jack Nicklaus to say Tiger Woods has been chasing him now for years.
Not going to get him. I don't know, Hickey, that's a good question. Maybe when he's older, older, I don't know, not 50, but maybe he's 60. But at that point, if he ain't swinging them clubs, his body has been through so much. I don't know.
Good question. The body like he's right. He's not getting healthier. He's not getting younger. And then also, like you said, I mean, Charlie, his son's only going to get older and playing in ballgame. Charlie, his son's only going to get older and playing in more tournaments. Like if he's not playing the big boys, why play in the senior tournament? You can just watch your son and kind of almost have your second career kind of living through him. I agree with you. You know, if you if you when you're at the top of your game, you can have so much pride and you could just be like, hey, you know what? Anything else that I do isn't going to match what I used to do.
So why bother? Or you think it's below you or underneath you, especially if you're Tiger Woods, you're like, what am I doing here? I could still play with the younger guys, even though his hip would say otherwise. His knee would say otherwise. His back would say otherwise. His neck would say otherwise. His surgically repaired ankle would say otherwise. His Achilles would say otherwise.
Hickey, he sounds like Joel Embiid. OK, like everything hurts. The guy was in a car accident. This guy almost died. Go go watch his son.
OK, just go go do that, Tiger Woods. And on that note, I'm done. Hickey is a fun show, too. A lot of fun. Learned a lot. Yeah, we had Kevin Gray come talk, Dallas Mavericks, DLLS, Alexis Belton. She just joined us.
A professional golfer, Nick Baumgartner, came through and talked the NFL draft from the athletic. If you missed a minute, go ahead and hit rewind on the free Odyssey app. Hickey, where can they find you? Ryan underscore Hickey three on Twitter. You can find me online everywhere at J.R. Sportbrief. We'll be back with you tomorrow. Give you an update on what's going on with the Masters. NBA is wrapping up its season. We'll talk some more NFL NFL draft. We'll see if we get some news. The J.R. Sportbrief show here on the Infinity Sports Network is done. Don't move. Bart Winkler coming up next. Be safe, people, please.
