The complete opposite of what we saw with the Pro Bowl, where we had a bunch of grown men pulling at flags. It was a nice exhibition, though.

Congratulations to the NFL for not just completely putting on trash this past Sunday. Anyway, I'm here. I'm being joined by super producer and host, Dave Sheppard.

He's holding it down in New York City. And more importantly, we're being joined by you. Every single one of the listeners to this program, everybody at work, my people going to work, leaving work, my chefs, my delivery people, my healthcare providers, the law enforcement people, everybody just chilling. Maybe you like me, maybe you just relaxing.

Who am I kidding? I'm not relaxing. It's been busy as hell. I was at the NFL opening night, and I'm standing in front of jail and hurts. And here comes Michael Irvin comes out, and there's a million people.

They want to crush me in my back. It's, uh, it's a busy day. There's people out there's media there I've never heard of in my life, and it's just it's busy. It's busy. And so I stopped by and said what's up to a few folks and then I ran back to the studio to just hop on there with you guys.

And so here I am, and here I will be for the next three hours, but I'll be here in Arizona all week long leading up to the Super Bowl. So if you want to talk to me, it's simple. Phone number is 855-212-4CBS.

That's 855-212-4CBS. You can find me on the internet. The internet. It's at JR Sport Brief. You can see some of the photos and some of the video that I've already started to post, and there'll just be content going up all week long. To open up the show, as I just mentioned, talking about the Pro Bowl, you know, taking a look at the adjustments that the NFL made, all of these mini games and races and feats of strength and accuracy. It was cool.

Let's see what they can do next year to put a little bit more stink on it. Maybe we have some former legends who can still actively move, you know, get involved with the Pro Bowl and so that's all good and fine. But as I watched the Pro Bowl, my phone went off, just like a lot of folks. And I look and I have that, did I just, did I just see that correctly? Did I just see that Kyrie Irving was traded to the Dallas Mavericks?

And the answer after I looked it up a few times was yes. Kyrie Irving was sent to the Dallas Mavericks. Kyrie Irving, as we all know, he wanted to be sent out to the Los Angeles Lakers and that's not the case. We even got the report from Josiah, the owner of the Brooklyn Nets, that he didn't want to send Kyrie Irving to no damn Los Angeles Lakers because that's what Kyrie Irving wanted.

And who's, who's going to complain? I mean, the guy has put the Brooklyn Nets through so much hell over the past several years for a variety of reasons. He's put other teams through so much hell over the past several years. Go ahead and ask the Boston Celtics. Go ahead and ask LeBron James. Obviously they want to patch things up now because this would be beneficial to the both of them. But Kyrie Irving wanted to leave a team that was right there in front of him that could have competed for another championship because he didn't want to be second fiddle. And like most times, Kyrie Irving came through and he apologized. And so now he'll play with Luka Doncic. Spencer Dinwiddie goes back to the Brooklyn Nets.

Dorian Finney-Smith goes to Brooklyn as well. First round picks in 2029, two second round picks, and Irving goes out there. The Dallas Mavericks didn't even give him a contract extension. The Dallas Mavericks got to play this by ear in a hope that he decides to stay. And if not, at least the Dallas Mavericks will take the approach of, well now we have salary cap space to add someone to Luka Doncic. A matter of fact, the Dallas Mavericks are in action right now in Utah against the Jazz. They have a slim lead 105 to 98 in the fourth quarter. It may be only a matter of time, maybe a couple of days until we see Kyrie Irving in action on Tuesday with Dallas against the Clippers.

Ironically, tonight, the Brooklyn Nets took on those same Clippers and they lost 124 to 116. Cam Thomas is actually getting playing time or playing time, I should say. He dropped 47 points tonight.

A couple of nights ago, he dropped 44 points. So he's finding the green light better with no Kyrie Irving. But this situation complicates many a thing for many teams. The Brooklyn Nets are obviously going to try and retain Kevin Durant, who we know wanted a trade even when Kyrie opted in this past summer. LeBron James is left holding the bags knowing that his chance or an opportunity at another title this year has just completely gone out of the window. And the Dallas Mavericks just put together the odd couple that will just dribble the ball into oblivion. Dallas Mavericks might as well be a two on five team. Kyrie, Luka, three other guys, and then they'll lose maybe in the first or second round. That's basically what they're signing up for.

But I think we have limited time. Maybe Kyrie Irving won't provide you with that much of an off court type headache. I just told you about the Brooklyn Nets. They played a basketball game tonight against the Clippers.

They lost 124 to 116. But we did hear from some of the Brooklyn Nets. We did hear from their head coach before the game. Cam Thomas was asked about Kyrie right before the game.

And he said, man, ain't nothing for me to think about. Listen to this. I stay out of it. I just, you know, I got drafted here. I just play, you know, whatever I do, you know, whatever they do, that's on them.

That's the front office. You know, they'll make the best decision for the team. But, you know, I just try to, you know, stay in my lane and play the best ball I can. Yeah, man, after my own heart, just just mind your business. What's going on with Kyrie Irving?

No, got a damn thing to do with me. I'm trying to make some bread here in the NBA. I mean, dammit, if he's dropping 44 points and 47 points.

And by the way, he's 21 years old. People are going to find out about him soon. Brooklyn Nets maybe have a gem before the league figures him out. Jacques Vaughn used to play point guard in the NBA. He's now the head coach of the Brooklyn Nets. He has to figure out, man, what the hell happened in my life? I take over for Steve Nash.

We have success. And this Kyrie guy still wants to leave. Jacques Vaughn, he spoke as well. And he was asked about the Kyrie era, like the Kyrie Irving era in Brooklyn. What was it about? How would you summarize it?

I look at it from a personal perspective because I can't get in the mind of other people. My interactions with with Kyrie have always been positive. I enjoyed coaching him.

I want him to succeed. I'll keep it that simple. Oh, you could you could have talked about it from a basketball perspective. You didn't have to just put it in the box of I'll talk about it from a personal perspective because we know if you talked about it from a professional perspective, it stinks. Kyrie Irving, you know, taking a couple of weeks off and just just hanging out with his family, just disappearing. Kyrie Irving, whether he wanted to get a COVID shot or not, he just just just kind of left everybody hanging.

And how he explained it was was pretty much half-assed. This is the same Kyrie Irving who when he got to the Brooklyn Nets and throughout his 10 years, just like, yeah, I'm not I'm not going to leave Kevin Durant high and dry. That's my guy. You know, it's like, oh my God, number seven.

That's that's my dude. I mean, Kyrie Irving would always just compliment Durant and playing with him. He talked about this just after their playoff loss against the Celtics. He he wants to build a relationship.

He loves the guy. Listen, when I say I'm here with Kev, I think that it really entails us, you know, managing this franchise together alongside Joe and Sean and just our group of family members that we have in our locker room in our in our organization. You know, so it's not just about me and Kev. I don't want to make it just about that. We're cornerstones here. But, you know, we have been we have a few other guys that are on contract and I think we just got to make some moves this offseason and really talk about it and really be intentional about what we're building and have some fun with it. Make it enjoyable. And, you know, hopefully we get to start from day one just as a squad and as a family. And we just really worry about us.

You know, sometimes I feel like the noise on the external world or outside noise could seep in and, you know, I'm not I'm not the type of person allowed that to happen. So as we build together as a squad, I just think we need to be tougher mentally and just more honest about what we want to accomplish and just stick to the goal, stick to the mission. Oh, Kyrie certainly was honest, right? And that is that what he was? This man changes his mind like most sanitary people change drawers. This man changes his mind every day.

I just want to be honest. I want to manage the franchise until I don't think they'll pay me because I'm unreliable. So now I don't want to be here anymore. Move me. I need my money. Damn. This is the same man who told the Boston Celtics.

Yeah, I'm going to stick around. And he's just like, oh, I went through some life things and I wanted to leave. This is the same dude who was with LeBron James and was just like, oh, man, I need to I need to just just branch out and do my own thing. And then a couple of years later, he's like, oh, yeah, I screwed that up.

I should have, you know, handled that differently. You know, with LeBron James. There's a there's a pattern here. The man is 30 years old. He's been in the NBA. He's won a championship. He won a championship.

We all know about the talent and what's there and what's not there. He's just not reliable. If Kyrie Irving says one thing out of the left side of his mouth or using the left side of his brain, the right side will counter it about five months later.

You can't trust the guy. That's why the Dallas Mavericks and Mark Cuban, man, they rather take a risk. They throwing this man one hundred and fifty or even two hundred if they could.

They're not doing it. They rather take the risk that we have success with Kyrie and pay him. And if we don't have success, we have cap space. Well, that might kick them in the ass. If Luka Doncic goes, what are you all doing?

This is also the same team that could have had Jalen Brunson on the cheap. But I digress. The opposite of Kyrie, someone who is not a distraction, but just balls out of his mind.

And so I told you about the aftermath. You just heard Kyrie tell you how much he wanted to be honest. Jacques Vaughn, head coach of the Brooklyn Nets.

He was asked, Hey, Jacques, coach, can you tell us what Kevin Durant is thinking at this moment? Listen, I'm going to coach the group that's in front of me, the coach, the group that's in the locker room. That won't change. I'm not going to speculate and get in Kevin's mind at all.

Not going to even try to do that. I'm going to coach this group. Look forward to coaching them and looking forward to winning those those conversations. I wouldn't even that wouldn't even come up in our conversation.

We talked about the game and that was really about it. Kevin Durant don't got to tell that man he don't want to be there. Kevin Durant told the world he didn't want to be there this past summer. Kyrie Irving wanted out. Kyrie Irving wanted a trade.

Nobody wanted to bring this guy in. He finds out that he can't go anywhere. He decides to opt into the final year of his contract at thirty six million dollars. Kevin Durant, like like a couple of days later, says, I don't want to be here.

What more do we all need to pay attention to and watch? We don't need to ask Jacques Vaughn what's going through Kevin Durant's brain. Kevin Durant has to be running around going, help me, please.

And we can all throw darts if you should choose at Kevin Durant. Well, this is what he wanted. And this is who he wanted to team up with.

And he could have stayed with Golden State. And all of that is correct. It is. Can't take anything away from it. These guys make commitments. They change their minds. They want to leave as it relates directly to Kyrie.

Can you blame Durant if he's like, man, what am I doing here? The Brooklyn Nets could have whatever delusions they want about moving on into the future. There's there's nothing there. There is no championship in the East. Unless they can work a miracle with some additional players.

There is nothing here. And as it relates to the Dallas Mavericks now having Kyrie. Yeah, they're going to they're going to dribble the ball into hell.

Luca is going to give you 30 plus eight and eight like he does. The Dallas Mavericks will continue sitting in the West and going directly into the playoffs. Kyrie Irving will knock down some shots. But when it's all said and done, the Dallas Mavericks don't have enough to be favorites in the West. The Dallas Mavericks don't have enough to go out there and win a championship. And I believe it's only a matter of time before Luca Doncic looks at Kyrie and goes, Damn.

What is this guy doing? It's going to be a two man game. Luca Doncic will play point guard Kyrie Irving will play shooting guard.

That is not something that is foreign to him. The Dallas Mavericks might even improve from being the mediocre about 500 team that they've been. That's not going to be enough. The Dallas Mavericks will shoot the living hell out of the ball. They will go up and down the court. They're going to let other teams just score and score and score.

And then they'll get launched right out of the playoffs. And then we have a new Kyrie saga. Does he stay? Does he go? Does he sign in L.A.? What does he do? But Luca and Kyrie.

This may just be a few month rental. I don't see no damn championship coming. It's the JR Sport Brief Show here on CBS Sports Radio. 855-2124 CBS.

That's 855-2124 CBS. Kyrie Irving is a Dallas Maverick. Kyrie Irving is going to be teaming up with Luca Doncic. Do you see the Dallas Mavericks as any type of threat? Do you see Kyrie and Luca making big time noise in the West?

I say no. If Kyrie makes noise, it'll probably be off the court. I'm going to get to your phone calls on the other side and get your thoughts. 855-2124 CBS. This is the JR Sport Brief Show. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief on CBS Sports Radio. What are you doing, man? I listen to you every night on the way home from work. I appreciate what you're doing, man.

You're a bad mamma jamma. Call in now at 855-2124 CBS. This is the JR Sport Brief Show here on CBS Sports Radio. Just waiting on the Super Bowl just like everybody else. The NBA has decided to keep the week busy as well. We know during the Pro Bowl, Kyrie Irving was officially traded to the Dallas Mavericks.

We know Luca Doncic's problem. We know that the NBA trade deadline is going to take place in a few days on February 9th, which will be Thursday. We got a lot happening this week in the NFL. We just had an opening night. I want to talk to you about my experience there. We'll do that at the top of the hour. Always the funny, ridiculous questions.

It's just a wild time. During the break we talked about Kyrie. I said, I don't see this working with Luca. They're going to put up points and have highlight plays, etc. Yes, yes they will. They going to stop anybody?

I'm not so sure. They'll be exciting. They'll be fun. But I think that's where it will end. And then Kyrie doesn't even have a contract extension. The Dallas Mavericks are taking a chance. They may decide to extend him. They may let him walk. They may walk away with cap space. It's just an interesting scenario down in Dallas. And let's see, I know Jason Kidd, he hasn't had hair in forever.

But if he did, I know he'd be losing all of it. What do you think about this combination of Kyrie and Luca? 855-212-4CBS. Let's go ahead and talk to RCS calling from Portland, Oregon. You're on the JR Sport Brief Show. What's going on, JR? How you doing tonight? Very well, man.

What's up? Well, I was mainly calling in a little bit in defense Kyrie. I think he's a bit too dumb for his own good, honestly. But I'm a little excited to see what these two are going to do. But honestly, I see it as just another two great players being put together.

First round exit, honestly. I don't see these guys. But I might be a little of them there. I don't know. No, these are two players.

And thank you, RCS. These are two dudes who are offensive juggernauts. Over the past 8-10 games, Kyrie Irving, before he had calf soreness on Saturday.

And before he had a poor showing before that. This man has been dropping like 30-33 points like it's nothing. He's like, Kevin Durant isn't here. I'm going to put up some shots. It's not just jacking up shots out of necessity.

They've been in the flow of the game. And so we know he's a damn good player. We know he's one of the best point guards.

It's just absolutely terrible when you think about him in basketball. And regardless of whether his points have merit or not. How he explains himself. He talked about being honest, his dishonesty. And how he's explained his role and what he wants to do. Sometimes he just talks himself into a hole, into a ditch. And he can't dig himself out.

8-5-5, 2-1-2 for CBS. Joe is here from Birmingham, Alabama. What are your thoughts, Joe?

How are you doing, Jay? I really don't follow NBA basketball that much. I know you're well versed in it.

Question I have. How long, I don't know if you've met Mark Cuban. How long will he put up with Kyrie Zia before he boots you to the curb? And I'll just hang up and listen and hear what you have to say. Well thank you, Joe.

This is the beauty of it. He's not going to have to. Kyrie Irving can't wake up and say, I want to be traded again.

It doesn't work that way. He's stuck there in Dallas. And he made it very clear. I want my money. And the Brooklyn Nets, by all reports, said, man, if you want your money, then yo ass got to actually go out there and earn it based on your prior history. He then said, I don't want to be here.

And he left. I said this a couple of days ago. I said this last week when we found out about the request.

That it's real simple. The man made it very clear that I want my cash. And I'm not going to just show up and earn it. I'm not going to play with incentives. Y'all are just going to pay me. He's going to be on his best behavior here in Dallas. He wants his money.

He's made that very clear. Paul is calling from Rhode Island. You're on CBS Sports Radio. Thank you, Jay.

And I appreciate your show always. And Marco and Chip. So let's go to the Boston Okay. And so, you know, they tried to serve us last year with Durant and all that. But let's go one step further.

He's still one of the greatest players in the world. If he goes to Dallas and he's in Dallas, they will disturb the playoffs against Golden State, against the Lakers. What a face-off.

That's going to be for range, for everything. Well, Paul, he is in Dallas. That's done. It's finished. Yeah, I know, I know. I'm saying, what competition, that's going to be great in the playoffs if they end up going to semifinals and finals?

It might be LA Lakers. You would think so, Paul. Paul, I feel like he was calling me from the inside of his microwave. Was that just me, Shep? Was he calling me from the inside of a microwave or what happened to him? No, it's hit or miss with Paul.

I don't know what that was. I'm just like, where are you calling me from, man? He's like, if Kyrie Irving. Look, we got Steph Curry out for God knows how long with a knee injury now. And so we're already thinking about the potential playoff matchups. Yeah, if the Dallas Mavericks go into the playoffs, which they should, yeah, we're going to have an interesting matchup. I don't care who they playing against. We just going to see shots being jacked up all over the place. It's going to be one-sided basketball.

I hate to tell everybody. You know what? I had also mentioned LeBron James as a part of this. And LeBron James was actually asked today about not having Kyrie Irving.

He tweeted out a vague tweet last night, which we all know what he was referring to. He just said, it must be me. And it's like, wow, is LeBron James out here looking for sympathy? What is he so damn sad and miserable about that?

It quote unquote, it must be me. We know why he didn't get sent to the Lakers is because he treated the Brooklyn Nets like crap. And they said, we ain't sending you somewhere you want to go. So go to Dallas and figure it out with that other guy. LeBron James was also asked this question today via Michael Wilbon on ESPN saying that, yeah, it didn't work out with us getting Kyrie, but we got to move on.

Listen to LeBron. I don't get too excited about the possibilities of things that can be. I kind of envision myself on what it can, but I don't invest it all the way until I know it's happening.

And when it does not happen, I'm back locked in on the job at hand. So, you know, we had an opportunity out there. Our names was out there. The Lakers name was out there. We had an opportunity. Didn't happen. We move on.

You got no choice but to move on now, man. That was the Lakers last chance and it was still going to be difficult. It was still going to be tough. You know, are you going to trust Anthony Davis to be healthy? Are you going to trust LeBron to be healthy and Kyrie?

Yeah, he would ball out of his mind for the next several months. But if you can't put all three on the court to actually gel and and build around them and then still even have some shooting, it's going to be tough. And so the Los Angeles Lakers right now, they really can't do anything, I believe. But but look to the offseason, you know, try to put things together. And so, hey, LeBron James, you tried to construct the roster. And now you say you're no longer involved in front office decisions. And now you just got away. Kevin Durant, this poor guy. Not really. This guy got together with Kyrie Irving in twenty nineteen. And yeah, things would have been very different, maybe for everybody involved if we didn't have no damn pandemic.

I think we can all say that for all of our lives. But Kyrie didn't didn't commit. Now, Kevin Durant is out there miserable. LeBron James, miserable.

And the only dude, I guess, who wins and maybe he'll be a loser is Kyrie Irving. And this this guy is out here looking for a check. Sometimes it pays to do your job and let everything else take care of itself.

Somebody give these dudes the memo. It's the J.R. sport brief show here with you on CBS Sports Radio. Speaking of doing your job. Tom Brady. He provided some clarity about his own job in future, especially as it relates to the broadcast booth. I'll give you an update on Tom Brady since we're talking about, you know, great players. We'll talk about an old man who is still going. His name is Jim Boeheim.

I guess he'll never retire. And then I'm going to tell you about the experience I had tonight. At NFL opening night on the way to the Super Bowl. You are listening to the J.R. sport brief on CBS Sports Radio. I appreciate you being the show for the people. I stumbled on your show one night and I've been listening to it for about two months now.

I drive trucks at night and I appreciate that. Call in now at eight five five two one two four CBS. It's the J.R. sport brief show here with you on CBS Sports Radio. At the top of the hour, we're going to take an interesting dive into opening night for the NFL.

I'm going to tell you what I didn't see and what I did tonight. And we'll also hear from some of these players and what is boiling down to be some of their final and last media availability before we quote unquote get to the big game. Right before we went to break, we talked about Kyrie Irving moving on from Brooklyn, now a member of the Dallas Mavericks.

Let's see how that disaster unfolds. But Kyrie Irving isn't the only individual in the world of sports who's moving on to something new. Like today. Yeah.

Just just in the past 24 hours. We have heard from a star quarterback, the most successful quarterback ever. And we've also heard from a relatively very successful head coach in the NFL who's already back. This happens to be Tom Brady and the coach happens to be Sean Payton.

You know, Kyrie Irving transitioning to somewhere doing something new with someone different. And Tom Brady, we know he's moving into the world of broadcasting. Sean Payton is now going to be the head coach of the Denver Broncos. And they both spoke in relation to Tom Brady. We got his retirement last week. We know that he has three hundred and seventy five million dollars waiting for him when he decides to join Fox as a broadcaster. We know that Greg Olsen is currently occupying that spot with Kevin Burkhardt. The two of these dudes are going to call the Super Bowl this Sunday. And so there were a lot of questions saying, wow, Kevin Burkhardt and Greg Olsen have done just a great job so far as the number one team on Fox, replacing Joe Buck and Troy Aikman, who are obviously now at ESPN.

And so typically you would say. If it ain't broke. Don't fix it. But this is Tom Brady. This is not just, you know, plugging in a different piece. This is Tom Brady. And so whenever Tom Brady is ready to enter into the booth, they're likely going to give Greg Olsen the boot. And he has been very open about understanding his position, understanding that this is is Tom Brady's job, but he's going to do everything in his power to make sure that he holds on to it. Well, Tom Brady provided us with some clarity. He was on the radio with his his future co-workers at Fox, and he was on the herd. And Tom Brady told everybody, listen, basically, I'm taking a gap year.

Listen to this. For me, I want to be great at what I do and even, you know, talking even last week with the people at Fox Sports, you know, and the leadership there allowing me to start, you know, my Fox opportunity in the fall of 2024 is something that's great for me. So take some time to really learn, become great at what I want to do, become great at, you know, thinking about the opportunity and making sure I don't rush into anything. And I think when people really bet on me, I think one thing about my career, whether I was when I was drafted by the Patriots or signed up for the Bucks, I wanted to be, you know, fully committed. And I never wanted to let people down. I think my biggest motivator was that. So, you know, even in the future, I want to be great at what I do. And that always takes some time and strategizing and learning and growing and evolving.

And I have so many people to rely on that can support me in that growth, too. So it's going to be a good, great opportunity for me to take some time to really certainly become at my Fox broadcasting job, which I'm really looking forward to, but also catching up on other parts of my life that need some need some time and energy. Uh oh.

Shep, is there is well, there's always a chance and an opportunity. I was thinking that, too. Is this man going to stay home for the next year and go, y'all keep your three hundred and seventy five mil? Is that even way too much for Tom Brady to say no to?

You know what? Tom Brady, with all the endorsements that he has with the TV 12 brand, he doesn't need this. This is just, I think, his way of staying in the game. What I'm hoping for him, honestly, is that he and this is none of my business, but I will say it anyway. I hope he has his happy ending. And I don't and I mean it in the cleanest way, by the way.

I hope he has no Robert Kraft. Right. Exactly. Like, I know.

I don't know. Sean took it to a whole nother level, but I really do hope that that top because it's just the timing of it. Timing of it all is just is just very questionable at best. And I just want to see Tom Brady happy. He deserves to be happy. He's given us so many memories over the last twenty three years. Yeah, everybody, everybody deserves to be happy.

Even Tom Brady, like he's still a he's still a human. He deserves to be happy just like anybody else. I think it's a good idea and not just from his perspective where he can now spend time with his family and and he can go home, etc. I think it's I think it's good for Fox. They don't need to just throw him in the booth. What month are we in February? We don't need to go from February to September is like he is Tom Brady.

Like just give it a gap. And at this point it's going to be more than a year and he'll have an opportunity to learn and pay attention. And I'm sure they'll put him in demos and practices if he's interested still in doing the job. Go home, hang out with your kids, man.

Ain't no rush. I don't think anyone is clamoring to hear Tom Brady on Fox. Like it's like if he's there, he's there. And if he wants the money, this this is what I don't know if he's going to change his mind.

But I believe this. I'd be surprised if we get Tom Brady in the booth for the full 10 years that he committed to with Fox. I'd be shocked. I think he'll show up if he does start. I think he'll show up. He'll make some money. He'll go.

This was a good five or six years and I'm out. This is what Tom Brady wants to do into his. I don't know.

Mid 50s, maybe I don't I don't know. Good luck to Tom Brady anyway. Somebody else in a new place is the new head coach of the Denver Broncos. Sean Payton. Sean Payton was introduced to all of the wonderful folks in the mile high city.

And he said everything that you would expect him to. He loves it here. This is an opportunity he couldn't pass up.

Retirement isn't all that it's cracked up to be. Maybe you should share some of that with Tom Brady. And so Sean Payton was introduced to the media today and he pretty much said, yeah, coaching here, coaching Denver.

This is why I'm here. Throughout the process of interviewing, it still came back to that triangle of front office ownership and then passionate fan base. What? Sean Payton, did he say anything about money? Let's hear that again. Throughout the process of interviewing, it still came back to that triangle of front office ownership and then passionate fan base. Man. You get to work for the Wal-Mart people.

And I understand. Shout out to the people listening to me right now who work for the Wal-Mart people. And Sean Payton is making more damn money coaching this football team than everybody listening to me working for the Wal-Mart people.

And Wal-Mart folks got all the money in the world. And Sean Payton showed up because he has an opportunity to fix this Russell Wilson guy. He has an opportunity to move away from the broadcast booth with Fox.

He also has an opportunity to make money from the Wal-Mart people. And so Sean Payton is going to try his best to, you know, put his imprint on the Denver Broncos. He's going to try his best to turn Russell Wilson around. And I said this last week when we found out that Sean Payton is going to coach the team. The Denver Broncos can't be worse than what they were last year.

They had no way in hell. And so whether you believe it's going to be an incremental change of, I don't know, two or three wins or you think there's going to be a vast turnaround. It's not what I believe. Sean Payton is going to help out this squad. It's just always funny that when you put an athlete into a space or you put a coach into a space of sports, how many guys are actually going to be honest with you?

How many guys can actually sit in front of you and tell you straight about what it is and what it ain't? You know, I will always have a different respect for Anthony Davis, who's just, he's peculiar. He's not healthy.

We know that. I'll never forget when they asked him, man, why'd you sign this contract with the Lakers? And Anthony Davis kind of looked at the media and said, based on my injury history, I'd be dumb not to take the money. But we got Sean Payton, who's looking at the general manager and the coach and the players.

And yes, I wanted to want it to be in Denver. We played that clip from from Kyrie Irving. Kyrie Irving running around just just last year telling everybody, oh, man, I can't wait to manage the Brooklyn Nets here with Kyrie and management.

And where do you get that from now? Hey, shop, I thought when you do media training that they would train these guys not to be idiots. Well, listen, if you're a high school prodigy and then you're the number one player in the country at Duke, you play 11 games in your career. You still end up as the number one overall pick. You can say and do and act however you damn well please. JR, you and I both know that they don't need it. He's not accepting any training, even if he gets it. It's it's this is still surprising, though, but maybe not. When you have people who are not stupid, of which Kyrie Irving is not a stupid person, he might be stubborn.

He might he does a poor job communicating his thoughts, but he is not a stupid person. At what point and I guess the answer is never. At what point does somebody tell you, man, you just you come off confused. Even to yourself, like you just don't say nothing, nothing. Just play basketball. Don't try to explain. Kyrie Irving was always in a defense mechanism.

He's always in defense mode, and it's because he puts himself there. And so it's just that's why especially when you talk to active athletes, guys who are still in the trenches and you don't get a clear cut answer. You really don't get anything of substance.

It's the same thing in the NFL. The coach speaks and it's just garbled, garbled, garbled, garbled, garbled. It's like listening to the teacher from from Charlie Brown. What, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what? It's like your lips are moving.

The sound coming out. You ain't saying nothing. Sometimes the media press conference is only good if the players and the coaches are ticked off. Like Russell Westbrook.

Sign me up for that every day. Can't stand anybody. But Sean Payton, you know, I went to Denver because a great opportunity. Yeah, sure it is.

They're paying you tons of money and you no longer wanted to coach. Oh, it is the teacher. Yeah. That's that's almost every time Russell Wilson opens his mouth.

So everything sounds sound like a computer generated robot. Funny stuff. It's the J.R. sport we show here on CBS Sports Radio.

Speaking of talking and making noise and not saying a lot of anything. Tonight is almost a newly found Super Bowl tradition. Opening night. Players are available. Coaches are available. They dump them in an arena and they tell the media, go at it. And I can tell you by looking at some of the players, this is a hell of an experience for them.

I'll tell you about my experience and you'll hear from some of the players on the other side here on CBS Sports Radio. Goalie gummies get you so close to your goals, you can actually taste them.
