What do you do when a catastrophic storm hits and perhaps you've experienced that firsthand or you've seen videos and still photos and well, today we're going to address something that's happened recently, Hurricane Helene. Ladies and gentlemen, the following contest is set for one flaw. Introducing first, from Lithuania, he weighs 123 kilos, the Russian nightmare, Nikita Kolod. Now, the Devil's Nightmare. Welcome back to another episode of It's Time to Man Up. With me today, William Murdoch.

William, welcome to the Man Up show. Thanks, Nik. How are you doing? I am doing wonderful. Of course, that opening, referring to hurricanes, it doesn't have to just be hurricanes.

There's lots of different catastrophic things that can happen and have happened, but you are boots on the ground. What I mean by that for our listeners, you and your lovely bride, Robin, who, gosh, when do we go back? 25, 30 years? How long have we known each other now?

Well, I think it was before Robin and I were married and we were married 31 years this month. So, yes, probably a little more than 30, probably 32, 33 years. 33, we'll just round it off.

We'll round it up to 35 maybe, right? Yep, right at. Yep, absolutely. And, of course, our first introduction, I think, was through Ricky the Dragon Steamboat, or at least Abe Jacobs, or at least through his gym through a charity golf tournament.

You were hosting up there in Asheville, North Carolina, correct? Yeah, yeah. It started with Abe and then Rick and then, you know, Rick came, but I think it was Paul Jones to Ivan and then from Ivan to you, I believe. I believe it started with George Scott was first. George Scott and then Paul Jones and then Ivan and animal and you.

Yeah, absolutely. And you've had some, I know you've had Jesse Ventura there with Kurt Henning. Did he, did Kurt make it there too? Kurt came every year, you know, for a long, long time. You know, of course, you know, Jesse, like you said, you know, Ricky came, George Scott was one of the founders and Paul Jones. Abe came every year.

Abe is like you, won the tournament one year, so the only two wrestlers that have ever won the tournament was Abe and you. And, of course, it was the Brad Johnson Celebrity Golf Classic and now with Beyond All Borders, it is the Brad Johnson Golf Invitational Championships. And we're going to talk about, we're going to dive, take a deep dive into Beyond All Borders and Headlock on Hunger and what all you're doing there. And, of course, for our listeners, if their head's not in the sand, you know, when I mentioned Asheville, North Carolina, that was kind of the, almost the brunt of the storm, although there were many other outlying cities that were devastated as well.

We're going to dive into that in just a moment, so don't go anywhere. But, yeah, you know, and, of course, the golf tournament was a big fundraiser for all the things you do for Western North Carolina. And, you know, Brad, for those who may or may not recognize that name, you know, Brad was the quarterback for the Tampa Bay Bucks in Super Bowl 35, I think? Well, I believe so. I believe Super Bowl 35 and, of course, you've had a lot of big supporters over the years, Brad Daugherty of the NBA, correct? Yeah, yep, and actually Brad Daugherty was one of the ones who founded along with Brad Johnson and, Nick, you had a big part in it, Heath Shuler, in starting Beyond All Borders. And Heath Shuler, of course, quarterback the Redskins, I believe? Right, right, played for University of Tennessee, played for the Redskins and the Saints. And then was he a congressman for a while as well? Yeah, he was our congressman, runner-up for the Heisman Trophy. I forget what year that was, but he was our congressman, I think, three terms maybe. He could have been four, I kind of lost track, and then he decided to come back home and take care of his regular businesses.

So, and of course, you know, when we mentioned, I mentioned Beyond All Borders and even Headlock on Hunger, you know, for those of you out there, you can kind of visualize. So, Bill, well, I introduced him as William, that's just his official title. I'll sometimes call him. That's actually what my mom and dad, actually my grandfather named me. So, William is the real name, but Bill has always been Bill. Kind of the nickname there, so to speak, and everyone might have a nickname. Like the Russian Nightmare.

Yeah, that's it. Nicky, Uncle Ivan used to call me Nicky. Nicky, he was one of the few who called me Nicky. Dusty would call me Nicky. Dusty, so here's, like legit, here's who called me Nicky. Dusty, Jimmy Crockett, and Ivan.

Some pretty significant people in that organization. When I was little, my grandparents would call me Billy and my aunts and uncles, and it's funny now because I've got more and more people calling me Billy, which I have no idea where that came from. Now, as much as I did when I was five and six years old. Well, you should let that one out of the bag. I might be spilling the beans on that one.

I may take advantage of that one. Because I never correct anyone. It's all the same. Well, I've said it this way.

People have called me lots of names, some of which I will not repeat. For the record, I will not repeat. Alright, focus Nikita.

Focus, focus, focus here. Alright, because I really want people to hear what you're doing and what Beyond All Borders and what Headlock on Hunger. Let's just start, just real quick, take a minute Bill and tell Headlock on Hungers, before we get to Beyond All Borders, what Headlock on Hungers, hence the name, but tell our folks what the vision for that is and what it does, how it serves the community up there. Yeah, thanks Nik. Yeah, Headlock on Hunger is a part of and a program of Beyond All Borders and what we've done years and years ago. And Nik, you were there at the very beginning along with Lex and Dan Gable, JR, Jim Ross is the national chair, Beth Phoenix is our national vice chair.

You know, Edge is a big part of it. Briscoe? Yeah, Jerry Briscoe, Jack even at the very beginning. But Jerry, you know someone talking to Jerry and they're faring well in the storm down in Tampa.

I had a chance to get back with him today. And what we realized is, it didn't take much to realize, but when kids are out of school for the holidays, whether it's Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, summertime, many times the only meal they would get would be when they were at school. So, you know, having wrestled and being involved in wrestling and having a lot of good friends such as you with wrestling, we decided, you know, as we're looking at how to address this problem.

And when we're talking about just a backpack on the weekends, we were talking, you know, things kind of ongoing and a little larger than that, because there's many backpack programs that are just wonderful. But we know they got hungry during the week too. So, along with Ingalls Markets and a lot of good friends, we set up Headlock on Hunger, and we would do during wrestling matches in high school they bring food.

We would do a year, one day, big food drive, which we collected as much as 25,000 pounds of food. Now, we do things like with Inka, Mark Harris, multi-time state wrestling champion, and Rex Wells, the same, and they're both coaches here, are part and the local part of Headlock on Hunger. So, we do the JET Invitational Headlock on Hunger tournament for the Inka JETs the day before Thanksgiving. Where's that at? It's the Inka High School here in Asheville, in Buncombe County.

Okay, okay. Inka High School, the big wrestling tournament, and I know the teams that compete have to, you know, have to bring, or at least encourage them to bring, you kind of have a little competition who can bring, donate the most food, right? Yep, that's part of the entry fee, and we've given a championship belt out of whoever brings in the most food by weight, and Nick, one year, I know you were there to present the belt to the winning school, and we've got a new belt this year, thanks to our friend Andy McDaniel, and it is a copy of the belt that Jack Briscoe won in Houston in 1973 when he beat Harley Race, and they instituted the Dome Glow belt, the new belt, but it was on red velvet, had the same faceplate, but looked a little different.

So we have now the Briscoe belt, which we will be awarding to the team who brings in the most food every year, and so last year, I think it was 2,400 pounds of food, just from that wrestling tournament. So we're looking forward to that, even though we've been hit so hard with the hurricane, and we hope to still be on track, and should be for the tournament. So headlock on hunger, just to summarize for you out there, headlock on hunger, you know, as you might, maybe you weren't aware, maybe you didn't know that a lot of these kids only eat when they're in school, and so Bill's vision, along with others who came alongside him, so summertime, holidays, and even weekends, if you think about it, they leave Friday afternoon, go home, and don't come back to school until Monday morning, believe it or not, in today's world, some of these kids don't have any food to eat over the weekend when they get home, and so that's what headlock on hunger represents there in western North Carolina, and now, shifting gears just from headlock on hunger to beyond all borders, pretty amazing, and from a timestamp point, you know, Asheville, North Carolina, and I think I'm correct in this, Bill, you can correct me if I'm wrong, but I did a little homework, and it seems like the last floods in Asheville, or the last major floods in Asheville, that set a record was 1916, and it was somewhere around 24 feet that the French Broad River had rose and devastated Asheville, and Hurricane Helene dropped so much water in western North Carolina, that it actually set a new record, I think it's maybe 26 now, 26 and a half feet, or 26 feet 7 inches, something like that, and set a record, and the devastation from Blowing Rock to Boone to Chimney Rock to Marshall, you just go down the list of cities that have been absolutely decimated, and Bill, here's the thing, you've been spending the last weeks on going out into the communities and serving and supporting the people in need, but there's a long game to this, right, this is not just like, hey, bring food and water over the weekend, and we're all going to be good, how long is the estimates, Bill, of the rebuild of western North Carolina, any idea?

I don't think anybody has any idea, there are some areas like Swannanoa, which is east, Fairview, again, which is east, it's all Buncombe County, it's all Asheville, but just that area, they're saying it may be even first of the year before they get water on, so if everybody's working around the clock, you know, some areas have got power and water, some just have power, towns, like you said, like Chimney Rock, and Swannanoa, Black Mountain, you know, where Brad Johnson and Brad Doherty are from, they're completely gone, I'm not saying they can't rebuild, but it's just amazing, and yes, this was record setting in the Biltmore area, nice shops, tourist areas, of course, the entrance to the Biltmore estate is, that was, from what I understand, 27 feet, and out in Black Mountain and Montreat, you know, where Billy Graham's from, you know, I think it got up to 32 feet of water. You can give monthly, annually or one time. God bless you for making a difference around the world. You're listening to the Truth Network and truthnetwork.com They're prepared, right? They have backup generators. They knew there was a storm coming in.

And so, I mean, they were having worship. They were, you know, every light was on because they all had backup generators to back up the whole campus. And they didn't realize until they tried, they went through the main gate to try to leave and they couldn't get anywhere because like roads were already started, washed out, trees down. And then they had to turn around and go back, show some ID to get back in, even though they just pulled out through the gate, believe it or not. And, you know, prove that they were at the conference and had a huddle there at the Cove during that storm. And I hadn't talked to Nathan yet, so I don't think they got out that Saturday.

I think they had to huddle there for a few more days before they actually made it back to Kannapolis, back home. And what's amazing is too, so when we say long game, and I just want to share this with our listeners out there so they get an understanding of what Beyond All Borders and what my friend Mr. William Murdoch is doing up there along with others. So Heath Shuler, who we mentioned, former Congressman, NFL star, along with Brad Johnson and many others, some of the founders and partners of Beyond All Borders.

I know, for example, let me just give you one example. So generous donation of grills, charcoal, igniters. Bill, you had told me you had a value donation of about $202,000. And you had distributed about 572 grills along with all the other needed things there in the counties, including parts of Asheville. You mentioned some of Swannanoa, Black Mountain, Fairview and other areas, right?

Right. A lot of the stuff went to Marshall, it went to Mars Hill, Yancey County, Edneyville and Henderson County, Transylvania County, you know, Brevard, Waynesville, you know, as well as here. And, you know, that was Heath. Heath put all that together and we were able to help distribute a lot of, you know, George Suggs, one of our founders here at Milco, which is part of Ingalls Markets. We operated out of their warehouse.

And still, that actually was where I'm talking to you from. Bill Crowder, a longtime friend of mine and classmate has been here working with us and he's here right now. Your buddy Greg Gore just left. And so he's been here. Robin has been outside of town, working with Todd and Michelle Campbell who have two men in a truck, and they let us use their warehouse and they were getting donations in. So we've gotten five or so 53 foot tractor trailers of supplies as well.

I think we got a 53 foot tractor trailer of water coming in Monday. You know, and again, Brad Doherty, you know, being the original founder of this years ago, when we were doing work in Haiti, Brad wanted to help the refugees in Haiti during the hurricanes. And so we created Beyond All Borders. And then four years ago when we kind of started that part up again, it's now Borders of the Heart. It's not necessarily geographic borders, but it's Borders of the Heart. It's giving beyond what we would normally give. And like Jesus said, about going the extra mile. And so that's where Beyond All Borders came from. So we really emphasize the part of Borders of the Heart. And of course, you have a heart bigger than Texas because I've known you all these years and been around you and seen all the, probably one of the, probably one of the most humble guys I know.

And anyone who has spent time around you would agree that you try to take credit for nothing, which I get. But today I wanted to have you on the show just to be able to highlight you and what you're doing. What Headlock on Hunger is doing, what Beyond All Borders, what Borders with Heart is doing. And I know you, again, it's the long haul, right Bill? I mean, again, this is going to take, this is not just days, it's going to take months and projected into, even into years to attempt to rebuild a lot of these communities, correct? Oh yeah, Nick, and I appreciate that, you know, and it has been such a wonderful outpouring here.

And so many churches and so many companies and businesses, you know, are just, you know, serving the community and they're serving, you know, the community that they're in and their locality and, you know, truckloads of things are coming in. But, you know, after a while, and I'm not being trite or anything, but it becomes old news. And it's old news for most everybody except for the people living here, who have family and friends.

Most affected by it, right. You know, and once we, like I said, Monday, we're expecting a 53 foot tractor trailer of water, that's an awful lot of water. And, but once we give that out, another week, two weeks, three weeks, people are going to need more.

Right. You know, the water's, you know, the charcoal is going to be gone. The foods are going to be gone, the diapers are going to be gone. And so, you know, we, it is going to be a long time.

And hopefully, and prayerfully, you know, it's been amazing the miracles that God has done, you know, throughout this tragedy. You know, we were getting more and more stuff in and we've been looking and praying and talking, George and I talking about warehouse for a long, long time. And then you get a call from a lady down in Florida named Beth, who knew somebody up here who had a 35,000 square foot warehouse relating issues. Yep.

And I have no idea how the lady got our number or I have never met her, talked to her a number of times, very, very, very strong Christian lady and strong in their church in Florida, Melbourne. And she got us connected to a guy who got us connected to the guy with the warehouse. So we've been out there a couple of days, you know, getting ready, getting it set up and we'll move all the operations over there from from Milco on Monday. And so we want to we want to be prepared for the aftermath of the aftermath. Yeah. And for those listening, it's going to be ongoing. And, you know, but God.

Right. I mean, in the miracle stories, a quick story, Bill, I saw posted. I know Dr. Phil, the TV celebrity. Dr. Phil was there and got flagged down by a woman. It turns out she was by herself.

You just had heart surgery two weeks earlier. Her power was out. She had no food, no power, no transportation, no nothing, couldn't drive. And they just happened to have a generator on their truck that could set her up and then got food and everything to her. Just he said it had had she not flagged them down.

They you know, no telling how long it might have been before somebody found her. So and on that note, Bill, before we run out of time. So because it is the long game, how could our listeners how obviously prayer support.

But if they want to somehow contribute to whether it's volunteering of time over the long haul or of supplies or or financially funds, so financially into beyond all borders, how can they do that? Tell it. Tell our listeners.

Well, you know, we're a very small group and we've we fashioned ourselves after the mission as a charity mother, Mother Teresa. And so we don't have a Web site that there's anything wrong with one. And eventually we probably will have one. But we do have a Facebook page. It's beyond all borders.

Dash WNC, which for Western North Carolina. And we have the information there, whether it's a check. And, you know, you want to send a check me address back later tonight.

I'll go ahead and post it again. And our Venmo information and our PayPal information. And as far as supplies, what we're needing now, we're getting quite a number of calls. It's starting to get cool here in the mountains, especially in the morning, in the evening, and will continue to get colder. So we are in need of sweatshirts and hooded sweatshirts, work boots, gloves, buddy heaters, which are propane heaters, hand warmers.

You know, not only for the folks, but also the people who are clearing the roads and doing all those things. We have a Todd Campbell, again, friend who owns the two minute truck franchise, called me with a guy who knew a guy. You know, there's always a guy, right?

A guy who knows a guy. Yep. Yeah. And this is a wonderful ministry out of Charleston, Southeastern Rescue and Relief. They're coming up Sunday night with a it's kind of like a big food operation for free meals, free hot meals. And they can serve, I believe, up to 3,000 people a day. So we're partnering with them and our friend Mark Steikhar, John Teeter at Pepsi, we're donating all the bottled water for them.

And they're going to be here for an entire week in Swannanoa, which is one of the hardest hit places, and be able to serve hot breakfasts and hot supper, hot dinners. Fantastic. So beyond Facebook. And again, it just got, you know, God's grace and Todd knowing someone who said, hey, I think I know a guy.

And within a couple of hours, it was all set and ready to go. So Beyond All Borders Facebook page, Beyond All Borders dash WNC. That's for Western North Carolina. Beyond All Borders. Go check it out. And Bill say, well, we're just a small group. But I want to tell you, if you if you are listening, if you got your listening ears on today, they might be a small group.

But I'm telling you, they are making a big impact. And Bill, it's just an honor to be a part of what you're doing. But more than anything, I appreciate your friendship over all these years.

And by the way, congratulations on 31 years of marriage. Tell Miss Robin, I said congratulations as well to put up with you for 31 years. She's a saint. She's a Mother Teresa is a saint. You know, one day I was talking to her and, you know, I keep saying, you know, Robert, Robert said she she had to marry me.

She was too embarrassed to date me. So come on. Leave it up to Miss Robin to have have those one liners. So, hey, I want to encourage you to be keep beyond all borders, keep keep Mr. William Murdoch in prayer, if you will, and their organization and what they're doing. I know there's a lot of boots on the ground, a lot of help up there. They're going to need more help. We're going to play the long game here.

I want to have him on the show so you wouldn't forget about what happened in western North Carolina. And thanks for your time today. But I know you got a lot going on. Appreciate your time today. Nick, Nick, it's always an honor. And, you know, I can't say how much we Rob and I appreciate your friendship and all the great things we've been able to do in the past and looking forward to that much more in the future. All right. So beyond all borders one more time.

Hey, write it down or make a mental note. Beyond all borders dash W N C Facebook go contribute, pray, contribute. However, God leads you to support what these guys are doing up there.
