This is the Truth Network.
Ladies and gentlemen, the following contest is set for one flaw. Introducing first, from Lithuania, he weighs 123 kilos, the Russian nightmare, Nikita Kolov. Welcome to another episode Q&A with Kolov, the devil's nightmare.
So this is where you potentially get a personal phone call from the Russian nightmare. And with me today, it's an honor, it's a blessing to have Butch Patterson. Butch, or should I say, Pastor Butch Patterson with me.
Welcome to Q&A with Kolov. Thank you, sir. It's a privilege to be asked to be on the program today.
Well, it's great to have you, Butch. And of course, we were just not long ago, fairly recently together, I was up in your, let's, shall we say your neck of the woods, Clarinda, Iowa. I had to like go on, on like YouTube to see how to pronounce the town, just so you know.
So there you go. I'm like, how do you say that for sure? I don't want to mess it up, but Clarinda, Iowa. My sister and brother were looking it up and they're like, like, where is that? I'm like, ah, I'm not sure.
GPS is going to get me there though. So, so, so, but no, it was a, what a great time we had together. You, you pastor a church there, New Life, New Life Church in, in Clarinda.
And we did a man up. Yeah, I did a man up conference there and had a great time with a lot of your guys that Saturday and then preached, ministered on that Sunday, had some great fellowship time together. And but, but give our folks, cause you're, you're not a, you're not home grown from Clarinda, Iowa, correct?
No. Clarinda, Iowa is, is now my home, but has been for just about six years, but I'm originally from Zion, Illinois from the Chicagoland area. So right between the Chicago and Milwaukee, right on the lake there. Zion, Illinois.
Okay. And, and, and so you grew up, grew up there and, and what was, what was family life like in Zion, Illinois? You know, Zion was pretty, pretty cool. It was, it's actually got very deep Christian roots. John Alexander Dowie, a famous faith healer from back in the day, he founded the town. It was built on Christian principles. You know, even to this day, a lot of the streets are named after biblical names and you know, John Dowie, he, as you know, he, he, he went through some, went through some times to where started kind of going off the deep end a little bit.
But then we had William Seymour, Charles Parham came through that spearheaded the Azusa street revivals back in the day. And and so there was a group of a church that broke off from the original church there in Zion and started having tent meetings and revivals and people baptized in the Holy Spirit. And just in that, that church broke off and that's the, that's my home church. That's the root church there. A lot of, a lot of, yeah, a lot of great history there.
Yeah. A lot of history in Zion. And of course I, I, I met your, your, of course, the first lady, your beautiful bride and tell us about your, tell us about your family. Well, my family, I've got my, my wife Tanya will be married November for 30 years. So I'm still learning, still learning. For all you husbands out there, did you hear that? 30 years, still learning.
Okay. And you know, we have, we have four kids, my oldest Cheyenne, she's living in Illinois and my, my middle child, Joella, she's doing ministry in Northern Illinois in my hometown area there in Zion. And then Ezekiel, he just turned 18, plays drums for us on the, on the worship team there in Clarenda. And then we did lose, lose a child back in 2003. You know, we went full term with him and, and it's right when we were, you know, things were going great. Revival was happening.
We're youth pastors at our home church in Zion. And, and then that happens. And it was one of those, one of those moments where, you know, I call it my drink offering moment. You know, Paul, Paul said to Timothy that he said, for I have already poured myself out like a drink offering.
And, you know, the thing is when you pour, when you pour the water out in a container, you can't put it back in. And so I, that was my moment where I was, had my angry, shaking my fist at God, you know, how could you, and here I am doing all this for you. And I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm working for you and, and getting, getting these kids saved and that, and then you repay me with this, a dead son. And, and then I'm, I'm not, not kidding you, brother Nikita. It was like, just like the hand of God pushed me down to the floor and I was on my face and he, and I heard God speak and he said, you'll have two choices.
When I let you go, you can either run from me or run to me. And then I felt at that, at that moment, I felt the pressure lift and I was on my knees and I said, God, you've got me, you know? So that's when we really, really started going gung ho in ministry and then pastor to church in Wisconsin, pastored a couple of churches in Southern Illinois. And then the roundabout way, we ended up in beautiful Clarenda, Iowa, which is known to be the birthplace of Glen Miller.
That's the big claim to fame of Clarenda. And we've been here, the COVID bug, you know, the whole world was affected by that and ministry was affected by that, but it did not catch God by surprise. So we're still, still hanging. That's an amazing story. And I just want to emphasize for our listeners out there, you can run to me or you can run from me and how many people have been in that, in that same setting or in that same place where something tragic has happened. And, and one of two choices you can choose to run, run to the father or run away from the father.
Right. And that's amazing. Now, now before we get to your questions, I do want to ask you this though. Have you, have you, I kind of already know the answer, but for our listeners out there, so have you always been in ministry Butch? No, I held many different, many different jobs, anything from factory work, you know, janitorial work was an electrician. And then I ventured into the world of professional wrestling on the independent market there. And I had a, I actually owned my own school in Kenosha, Wisconsin. It was originally, it was Flatlands superstars of wrestling. And then I was, I was going to be served with a lawsuit from a guy who sued Vince McMahon back in the day for, for the trademark of superstars. And he brought a team of lawyers into one of my shows. And he's like, and he's like, well, you're going to have to stop using that name. And then when he came and seen the show and seen the product, he's like, well, you can keep, you, you could still use the name. He said, I'll give you permission to use the name as long as you give me and my boys a couple of t-shirts. So I'm like, you can have at that point, I'm thinking anything, buddy.
I don't want to get sued. All my own was the ring. You know, I mean, I'm like, here's your t-shirts, but then we changed the name. We changed the name to, uh, Future Shock Wrestling.
Uh, we had the business there for a couple of years, you know, uh, ran a, ran about a show per month. And then I just really, um, you know, that, that, that, that wrestling business just really, uh, takes over your life. I just needed, needed to let it go and, and run to God, man. And, and, uh, you know, and I've, I've been a better husband, a better father and a better pastor for it. Well, and, and I certainly, uh, and I do, I wanted our listeners to know you here because we had talked and we were together over the weekend, you know, breaking bread together, you had shared some of those stories and there's a whole lot more more there, but I appreciate you giving kind of, kind of that highlight because it helps to make the connection, you know, even between you and I, not only through ministry, but just through that, that wrestling world. And, uh, so, so let me ask you this, if people are traveling through the metropolis of Clarinda, uh, and, uh, and, uh, want to visit New Life Church, is there a website they can visit? Where can they find out more about New Life? The best thing to do is to go on nlclarenda.org or you can go to nlclarenda.com or just Google New Life Church, Clarinda, and we'll pop up there.
Yes, you will. Which is what I did to find out where you were. We're, we're out in the Southwest corner of, of Iowa, like right between Kansas city, Missouri, and Omaha, Nebraska, and set like located in the triangle right there from Des Moines.
So right in the middle of that, that's where Clarinda is. Yeah, that's pretty amazing. Nikita Koloff here and I am excited. Did you hear the huge announcement, the big announcement?

You're listening to the Truth Network and truthnetwork.com. All right, Q&A with Koloff, so I have no clue what you might ask, but let's segue here to whatever questions you might have for me, just to fire away with your first question. I've got a two-part question. One has to do with the illustrious pro wrestling business. Okay. As we know, when the cat was out of the bag, all the terminology, everyone knows it.
So when you bleed during a match, it's called color. Okay. And so what I wanted to ask, the first part of the question is, what was the bloodiest match that you can remember being a part of? Okay. Easy to answer. So I will say that I'll give a little backstory on this. Anyone who looks at my forehead, and you may have glanced at it over the weekend or whatever, that we were together, but you realize mine looks pretty good compared to Uncle Ivan. It looked like a railroad interchange.
Yeah, it looked like a pack of bacon. Or the American dream death row, the town power to be power, right? Yes sir. Anyway, what I say is this, they can ask you to do it. They ask you to do it, essentially they're like, hey, we need you to get color today, whatever. But they never said how much. So I always made a point.
I always made a point of it being minimal at best while still adhering to their request. Right? So that said, man, I don't know what I did, but we were in, and I want to say I'm almost positive it was the American Bash Tours, Cincinnati, I think it was Riverfront Stadium in Cincinnati, I think.
But the big outdoor show against Magnum TA, Magnum TA. And I don't think it was the best of, part of the best of seven series, could have been, just don't exactly recall. But here's what I do recall, is the color. And I had on my red singlet with my little hammer and sickle stitched on it, you know, and man, I don't know, I hit a vein, I don't know.
But man, I was the old, you want to talk about crimson from head to toe as the old expression goes, I was crimson, right? And then, then, so the match ends, I get the dressing room, and I don't know how much pressure I applied for how long. Looking back, I probably needed Stitches Butch, but I was just too stubborn to want to go and pay to get it. Not even glue? Nothing.
Nothing. Like, I just put pressure on it, got it stopped. And I remember washing out and wringing out my tights in the shower, and man, it was crimson red. I mean just, my tights were just, right. And then I dropped something, and when I reached over to pick it up, guess what happened? It started gushing and pouring again, and I was like, no! So it took a few days for that to heal up, and if somebody looks really, really close, and I kind of point it out, you can almost still kind of see a scar.
But Magnum, T.A., Cincinnati, Ohio, Great American Bash, crazy days, yes. So there you go. Awesome. And then my second part of the question is, has to do with the blood, but not your blood or my blood, but the blood of Jesus. And number one, I commend you and respect you, because when you ministered to our congregation on Sunday, you ministered about the blood of Jesus and about the broken body of Jesus, and you didn't pull punches with that. And so I appreciate that. You're the real deal when it comes to ministry, and we love you for it. Thank you, sir. So what I want to, the question I have is, when did you, in your Christian walk, finally have a revelation of just what the blood of Christ means to you?
That's a great question. And so for those who maybe don't know or whatever, as far as the back story, so you know, I didn't grow up in church, but that doesn't mean I didn't. I wasn't familiar with the crucifixion story, right?
The man Jesus, who did sacrifice his body on a tree, on a cross, and did shed his blood, and really beaten beyond recognition by all historical accounts, and spilt a lot of blood for the sins of many, and for the salvation of all. And so I guess, as I embraced the gift of salvation 17 October 1993, for the very first time, I mean, it was a genuine encounter. If you want to say a road to Damascus encounter, it really for me, it was a road to Damascus encounter that morning. And so I fully opened my heart and fully embraced the shedding of his blood and the breaking of his body, or the sacrifice upon the cross, and transforming my own life. And really, Butch, from that point on, it's been a continual journey of growing in intimacy with him, and fully embracing, and just continually understanding the sacrifice he made in doing that for all of humanity. And so I guess how I'd answer it is, so over the course of time, in pursuing a deeper, and deeper, and deeper relationship with him, I've gained a greater, and greater, and greater appreciation for the shedding, the spilling of his blood, and the cleansing of my sins. And so I guess that's the way I'd answer it. It's just been a continual process of growth and embracing that, and not so much an aha moment, as much as it's just been me continually pursuing it. So great question.
That's a great question. Yeah, yep. So if you've got one more, we've got time for another one.
Have you got one more? Well, just to me, it's just amazing. You know, like, I've, I've served communion as a pastor so many times, and I'm sure you've served communion, whether it be at man camp or somewhere else. And, you know, it's just amazing how the Lord always brings something new to that same table. You know, there's, there's always a spirit revelation. You know, it's, it's like, and it's never, it's never the same, that the blood never changes, that the body that it was broken for us never changes, but he always brings a freshness. There's always a freshness there. And just what's, what's your, your, your take on, on, on communion, and when, when you serve communion and that, that type of a holy moment.
That's good. And, and, you know, I'm just reminded of, you know, he says it's great, as often as you do this, you know, it's, it's, you know, he says it's great, as often as you do this, you know, sometimes. So, like, I've taken it to, not to an extreme, but, but there have been times, Butch, where I have thought to myself, well, as often as you do this, as often as you, and for me, like, so take this bread and drink this cup, right? One could look at that and go, wow, well, take a moment, and as often as you eat and drink, just, just take a moment. It can be a moment, like, wow, thank you, Lord, you know, for, thank you for this drink.
Thank you, you know, thank you for this food on my table, right? Um, and so for me, communion, you know, and it varies with church to church and, and denomination to denomination, right? Like, like, uh, my youngest daughter, Colby, I mean, they, they do communion every week. That's just part of, part of their makeup. That's just, they offer it every week, I should say.
Yeah, they offer it every week, right? And, and I think there was a man by the name of Francis Chan. Ever heard of that name?
Yeah, yeah, yeah. So Francis Chan, I mean, I love Francis. I love his heart. And one time, I'll never forget, but he was at like some big, huge conference and, and I think they just, I think it was maybe spontaneous or, or maybe it was planned, but they were going to do communion. Man, he like ran out from the back and he's like, hey, hey, hey, hey, before you do this. And I'm like, man, where's he going with this? He's like, man, you really, you know, the Bible says, and he quoted the scripture says, don't just flippantly take this communion.
Right. Like, like pause, pause, check your heart, make, make, make sure there's, you know, all clear of the heart check, right? Like, okay, all clear, no hidden sin. You know, not just going through the motions on this thing.
I'm taking this serious. And so that really opened my eyes to like, anytime I take communion or offer communion, it's really to challenge whether myself or someone else. All right. Let's pause for a moment. Give you the opportunity to, to, to, to do, to do a heart check and make sure you're all clear.
Make sure like any sin that you need to confess, anything you need to repent of, probably a good idea to do that right now. So that when you break this bread, have take this wafer, drink this little cup, in remembrance of him, that, that it's, it's a more, it's a more heartfelt experience than just you going through the motions. Right. More, more than juice and crackers, brother. More than just, yeah, that's right. More than just, don't just check that box folks.
You know, you're out there in listening land. You know, if you ever take it, and I'll say this last thing about, about communion and, you know, cause I, I mean, so I live, I live what I call a fasted lifestyle. Years ago, the Lord enlightened me to, you know, Matthew chapter six, you know, he talks about giving, praying, and fasting. He didn't say if you give, or if you pray, or if you fast.
He said, when. When you give, when you pray, when you fast, here's, here's how, here's what you do. So anyway, all that said, I embrace that, right? So there, there, as part of my fasting, I, I make it a point of, of taking communion, just on my own, just me and the Lord, you know, one-on-one, no fanfare, you know, not, no standing at an altar or any of that, just, just him and I.
And it's just a very serious moment for me to reflect on just how good he's been to me and, and, and what he's done for me. Right. So. Amen.
Yeah. So that's kind of my, my take on, on communion. So I hope that helps some of our listeners out there. So, well, man, I appreciate you, butch.
I appreciate you taking the time today. I know you're up in the, Lord, thank you for good reception. Cause I think you said you're out like in the, in the, the woods of Wisconsin is today.
Is that where you are? We're up, we're up, we're up north. My, my wife's brother suddenly passed away last week. And so we're up here for funeral services, but we were already doing some ministry and praying for some folks and we're looking to do more while we're here too. So, oh, good. Well, that's, that's why we're, that's what we're doing up here and doing ministry with you guys out there. Hopefully, hopefully you heard something that rings the bell for you today. And, and just, again, just a brother Nikita is just a, such a great, such a great time in ministry that we had at our conference, highly recommended, just a straight shooter, the best tag team partner I ever had. And we need, neither one of us had to take a bump. That's right.
Our bodies survived. And, and I appreciate that. Thank you, butch. I appreciate the endorsement and New Life Church, New Life Church, Clorinda Iowa website. One more time.

Pastor Butch Patterson, bless you, my brother, and condolences to all the family prayers and condolences to all the families up there, family associated up there in Wisconsin. And, and look forward to, look forward to crossing paths with you somewhere, somewhere down the road, hoping and praying that, that we may, may see you one day at man camp as well, you and your son. Okay.
All right. And for all of you out there listening, thank you to be so faithful each and every week to tune in. And hopefully, as he said, there's something that was said today that sparks something inside of you. My challenge to you today is go out and live a God field.
