This is the United States Champion. Leave it. He came my first savior. Ladies and gentlemen, the following contest is set for one flaw. Introducing first from Lithuania, he weighs 123 kilos, the Russian nightmare, the Kita Co.
Um Now, the devil's nightmare. Welcome back to another episode of It's Time to Man Up. With me today from the lover's state of Virginia. That's right. The lover's state, because it says that.
Any state line you cross into Virginia, or at every rest stop you go to. The lover's state. Wayne Daniels, Wayne, welcome to the Man Up Show. Yeah, it's awesome. It's so great to be with you today, and I'm just excited about our time together.
Well, I am as well. You know, just a while back, you had me in, or I should say you had me back for a man-up conference there. And we'll dive into that here in a little bit and talk about. What a incredible experience that was to make a a return trip up there to the I guess the Virginia Beach, well really Chesapeake area, right? The the back yard of of uh my one of my nemesis, Magnum TA.
That's right. This is his hometown right here in Chesapeake. And we're part of what they call the seven cities that make up Hampton Road.
So we're all kind of connected. But yeah, Magnum's from really about three or four miles from my church location. Three, that, and that's just three or four miles. That's crazy. That's crazy.
And, and I know I, uh, I met at your conference here. I met a guy, a guy by the name of Pat Scully. Do you know Pat or no? I don't think I know him personally.
Okay.
Well, Pat. Uh Interesting story because he brought on Saturday, of course, we did a two-day conference there, right? Friday night and And then again on Saturday, and then hung over and preached for you on Sunday. But he was there Friday night and he goes, Hey, I'm going to bring this brochure. I'm not even sure what to call it, but I guess it was kind of a history of amateur wrestling in your community there.
And he goes, Oh, wow. It's got Terry Allen's name in it. You know, he was a state champ. He wrestled for a private school and he was a state champ at 167 pounds. And I'm like, Wow, 167.
I go, well, I guarantee he didn't weigh that when I stepped in the ring with him. He had filled out, he had blossomed and filled out. And but. Yeah.
So, well, I'm curious. Let me just ask, you mentioned the seven cities.
So take a minute before we dive into even, you know, so our listeners know who you're what's that what's that entail? Or Yeah, so so we have Chesapeake, you know, so the Hampton Roads area, it includes Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Portsmouth. Hampton, Newport News, and I believe Suffolk, Virginia. And so it's very condensed. And you've been here numerous times.
It's a very condensed population with all the military, but all the cities are very much connected. And in fact, Norfolk kind of seems to be the hub where we have the scope, where we watched you years ago wrestling at the scope. And there's a lot of really cool conventions and things in the city, so in the cities. And so it's a really, really neat market.
So it's so because it's they're all kind of All right. Close proximity to each other over the years, they've just kind of tagged it the seven cities. The correct and our area code is they call it the 757. And this whole region is made up of that area code, but they call it Hampton Roads, the seven cities.
Okay, well, that's pretty cool. The 757. And well, now you mentioned the scope, of course, you know, when I come up to your community, what comes to mind, it's sort of the Norfolk scope comes to mind, as well as the Hampton Rhodes Coliseum. Many a classic match is there as well.
So, is there a favorite? Memory, like maybe you have at the Norfolk Scope, and it doesn't have to be Nikita Goloff, by the way. It doesn't have to well, well, I will tell you, yeah, and I actually shared it with my church. And I don't know if I shared it when you were here. I think I did.
When I was probably about eight or nine, you know, wrestling was really popular, of course, as it still is, but then for a nine, ten-year-old kid, it's very, very popular. Munster trucks, you know, Bigfoot, you know, the Munster Truck rallies was big. And of course, the pop artist at the time was Michael Jackson.
So I never forget going to the scope, me and my dad. And there was Ric Flair was there. You were there. Of course, you know, Ivan was there. We, you know, Terry Allen Magnum was there at the Iron Sheikh.
It was a lot of great wrestlers. And I remember my outfit that day was the red leather thriller outfit that Michael Jackson made so famous. And I remember walking into the scope, you know, just ready for a fantastic night. And I laughed because one of the funniest memories that night, Rick Flair was wrestling, I believe, against, I think it was a tag team, maybe against the Ultimate Warriors. And I don't know if it was Hulk or Animal, but Ric Flair was trying to get away.
And one of them grabbed the back of his pants down and exposed his backside. And we laughed because he was so white because, you know, of course, the tan and the whole arena just erupted in laughter. And it was just a fun night. All around. Oh my gosh.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
For the record, Rick wasn't like ever too embarrassed about that. I think he actually kind of fed off of that, you know. But yeah, that would have been what we would know as tanning booths back then.
So he had quite the bronze tan with the exception of a certain part of it. Yeah, that's right.
So anyway, not to digress here. But yeah, if that happened to Rick once, it happened well more than once. But yeah, and of course, Animal and Hawk would eat something up like that as well.
So, well, that's pretty, well, that's cool. The whole little thriller outfit. What a great memory, though. What a great memory. It really was.
It was great to be able to share that with my father. And, you know, it's just one of those moments that sticks out. It just happens to include wrestling as a big part of it. Yeah, absolutely. And and and and and I've heard you know, over the years, of course, you know, I hear a lot of uh a lot of different memories, uh, you know, d dads and sons and things they've done together.
And so that's pretty cool.
So well, so you are in so you're in the uh In the community, there, you know, Kingdom Life. And I know you guys are doing some tremendous work for your community. And How long, I guess, let's take a moment and just fill our listeners in on who Wayne Daniels is. Take a minute, tell us about your family and then, you know, the church a little bit and how long you've been there and all that. Sure, sure, yeah.
So, so I really call Hampton Roads home. You know, the 757 has been home since I was probably in about the second, third grade. Originally, my family is all from southwest, the southwestern part of Virginia. We jokingly say that our families are made up of coal miners and moonshiners, and those who didn't choose that path became preachers.
So, they became preachers.
So, my father, my father was a pastor of 42 years. Wow, you know, I don't want to get into, we don't have time to go into the whole story, but who I'm referring to there as my father is my adopted, I was adopted by my grandfather. When I was a baby, so my biological father was not in my life. And my biological mother ended up remarrying when I was about the second grade and moved back in with them. And so I've been blessed.
My biological father, I led him to the Lord on Easter Sunday back probably about a decade ago. Come on. He's very much in my life. My father, my grandfather, who's my adoptive father, pastor for 42 years, really put the seed early into my life. And then my stepfather, who was just, I couldn't ask for a better supporting stepfather through sports and school.
And he's in my life. And so I've got three fathers.
So what the enemy set up to to take me to make me have no father you know figure to speak of i ended up with three so that's how the lord takes something bad and turns it around for good so ended up here ended up here in hamther ropes and really fell in love with it as as a young as a young kid and uh we moved away i moved away went into college went to college went into the army came out um i married very young and uh still married of course and just uh celebrated 25 years of marriage and we're blessed. We lived a little while in Northern Virginia, DC and Florida, but moved back here probably around 2003. We moved back to the area and 2008 I stepped out into my first pastorate. And so I was the young adult pastor at the church that I own as staff that I now pastor as the senior pastor.
So we left here in 2008 and went out and pastored to two other churches and came back in 2020. February of 2020, one month before the COVID shutdown. And so we stepped into that role. And I say we, my wife, like I said, 25 years and I have four daughters, but we only have one that's currently at the house. She's a senior in high school.
So all of my other kids have graduated and moved on and began their adult life. But yeah, so we moved here in 2020. And so we've been here now just almost almost five years coming up. and very excited about all that God's done and very excited about what he's doing and where we're headed.
Well, that's amazing.
Well, let me just recap a couple things there.
Some really cool stuff. And one, thank you for serving our million. I always like to thank our men in uniform. How many years did you serve in the Army then? Three and a half, three and a half, and I was in the 82nd Airborne.
82nd Airborne. That was my dad's unit. Oh, wow. My dad in World War II. My dad served in the 82nd Airborne.
And yeah, I'll tell you, a quick. little side story on in on that note. Towards the very latter part of his life, in fact, the very last Father's Day. I got to spend with him. He was 92 years old, Wayne.
And I had a series of 10 questions I wanted to ask him and that I was going to write down in journal. And, Wayne, one of the things he shared that he had never talked about, of course, I didn't really ask him, and but. Was how he liberated a concentration camp in Germany. Oh, wow. How amazing is that?
Oh, and Wayne, he went into vivid detail. And in my mind, as I'm writing, making notes and watching him talk, it was like he was there. It was like he was there as he was describing it, right? And yeah, 82nd Arab War.
So, well, thank you for serving. Absolutely. And I'll tell you what's cool too about your story because, you know, a lot of times. You you don't always hear, you know, the whole, as you know, said stepdad experience. You know, sometimes it comes out on the other end, right?
It's a you don't always hear a positive story. And so, what, what, what, what a great story you have that, that, that it's a positive story with your stepdad, the three dads, man, what incredible. I mean, Romans 8:28 comes to mind. You know, God worked out all things good for those who love him.
So, sure, you know, to your point, the enemy trying to destroy your family, you know, led to your dad giving his life to Christ. Just amazing. And then the other thing I just want to draw a quick attention to. Coal miners, moonshiners, or a pastor. I'm like, oh my gosh, that's incredible.
You're either, or it's in my mind, I'm like, That's like one time, Wayne, I was checking in for a flight, and the gate agent recognized the name. She was a wrestling fan, right? And she's like, oh, Nikita Koloff, are you still wrestling? I'm like, well, actually, I'm an evangelist. I travel around the world.
Tell people about Jesus. And Wayne, she pauses for like a second. Know or two, and she looks at me, she goes, Um, that's like polar opposite ends of the world, you know, like pro wrestler, preacher. How'd that work? And I just looked at her way and I said, Two words, two words, ma'am, but God, yes, sir, just proof there is a God.

Man, you and I have that in common. I raised four girls. I didn't realize that either. Yeah, we haven't talked about that. Yeah.
You know, we, we, we, you know, I was up serving the Lord at the time, and we had a daughter prior to becoming married. And so she's 28. I have a 28-year-old.
Okay.
I have a 24-year-old that is very involved in fitness. I think you and I talked a little bit about her. She's a bodybuilder. She's a coach and travels a lot in the industry. She'll be at the Arnold Classic as one of the speakers at Arnold's, one of Arnold's panel discussions.
But then I have a 20-year-old that is the first one that has gotten engaged. And so we just had an engagement party for her. And then I have a 17-year-old that is now just touring colleges for her next year graduation. That's that's amazing.
Well, yeah, a lot of really so as I joke with people, say I survived swimming in the estrogen ocean for many, many you as well. Share your lovely bride's name of 25 years. Vicky, Vicki Daniels. Vicki Daniels. And well, and I had just a phenomenal return trip up there with you at the men's conference, the Man I'm conference.
I mean, you did. I just want to say on record to the public audience, what an incredible schedule and lineup you had. And that Friday night, I think I told you this, but that Friday night, the quote tag team preaching, which I had never seen before. And for those who don't know what I'm talking about, Wayne had three preachers lined up and basically like. More or less 10 minutes, 10 minutes, 10 minutes, like boom, boom, boom, like rapid fire, you know, one after the other, after the other.
And it was so cool to sit back and watch. And I was taking, you know, I was taking notes and had my journal out. And then you had me as the keynote the next day, but then you had breakout sessions, work, work, you know. And so, of course, I sat in on those and took some more copious notes as I like to call them. And but what a What a great lineup of guys you have.
No, for real. Yeah.
Yeah, it was, I mean, tremendous experience. You know, years ago in ministry, the Lord really began to put men specifically on my heart because it seemed like the men is the one that's absent from churches in America. And even when they're at church, they're not there. You know, they're on the golf course in their mind or they're on the game that's coming up in the afternoon and they're there, but they're not engaged. And so the Lord really began to speak into my heart about ministering to men.
And so I began. my pastoral ministry really focused on winning men. You know, we have some similar backgrounds. And, you know, again, it's even with the four daughters. I jokingly say that only a real man could father four daughters.
And so, and the Lord knew what he was doing, I believe, giving me daughters instead of boys, because I was tough. You know, I played a lot of sports. I was a baseball player in college. I did all the things. I'm a motorcycle rider.
I was a paratrooper and just a tough guy. And the Lord really used my daughters to help bring compassion. know into my life is something that i didn't realize at the time that i needed for ministry in the future right and so so i began to realize that you know there's so many different biblical examples like david and others that that were they were tough guys but they were also worshipers they were tough guys but they were they were readers they were they they they loved people and so i i tried to adopt that and so the lord began to birth the men's conferences and things in my in my heart and this was only the second one that we've done here and we had you um last year come and and you did uh a similar to the boot camp experience a reduced version of the boot camp which was so powerful and i believe i wouldn't have done it any other way for my first conference was to begin to go through that with the men dig up some things you know begin to kind of sow seed into some fertile soil and and not falling on on deaf ears or hard hearts and you were very instrumental in that and so expanding on that building on that i wanted to bring in um a bunch of my My friends that are pastors in the state, and I know they all come from different backgrounds, different testimonies. And I just felt like it was a great opportunity. And so, yes, we call Friday night the Royal Rumble.
And that's right. I grew up in that.
So, growing up in a Pentecostal church, revivals, it was quick for another evangelist or preacher to grab a microphone. And it was just how the Holy Spirit worked. And so, I love seeing it.
So, I said, let's do something different. I'm just glad it. I'm just glad it worked. The only reason it worked is because God was in it. Because if God wasn't in it, that would have never worked.
Yeah.
So, it was great to have everybody here. It was. And again, you did a great, I mean, everything from you know, even from the organization of the breakfast and lunch and getting guys through and getting guys back in and getting guys where they needed to go. And so, well, let me ask you, Wayne.
So, so you didn't, so you obviously people have learned by this point, you didn't turn to turn out to be a coal miner or a moonshiner, but you did turn out to be a pastor.
So, at what point, I'm just curious, take a minute. It at what point did you know you were called in two minutes? Like, do you have that memory of when that might have happened? Yeah, so I really received Christ as my Lord and Savior when I was eight years old. I had a dynamic experience and I come face to face.
And even as an eight-year-old kid, the saying is true. When you come face to face with the Lord, like the prophet Isaiah, you know, oh, what a wretched man that I am.
So I came face to face with the Lord. And I mean, I couldn't have sinned so much in my life at eight years old, but I felt like a wretched boy when I come face to face. And I grabbed a hold of it and I knew then that I was called to preach. I was in a kids' crusade in Roadup, Virginia at a camp meeting. Wow.
And I remember running up, running up the hill to the tabernacle where all the ministers and my mom and dad were there. And I remember running straight to my father, tears. I mean, I couldn't run fast enough. You know, and I ran straight to my father and I said, Dad, I gave my heart to the Lord and I'm called to preach. And wow, that was an eight.
But I spent a number of years away from the Lord in the world. You know, the enemy really. set some traps for me and and um And I went a different course for a number of years. And I had an evangelist, a prophet evangelist speaking about life, didn't know me from anyone. And he come to me and he told me this, this shook my world.
And he said, Wayne. He said, he said, he said, Wayne, he asked me my name and I said, Wayne, he said, Wayne, I'm going to tell you. He said, you're going to do one of two things. He said, either you're going to win a lot of people to the Lord. or you're going to take a lot of people the wrong direction.
And he said, you got a choice. And so living with that calling, I was running from the call. And so we pursued, you know, I pursued, I was a businessman and the Lord had really blessed me, even though I wasn't living for him. The Lord blessed us tremendously financially. But when I finally came to the place, I told my wife, my wife didn't marry a preacher.
She married the way in the world. Yeah, she married that guy. And so my wife did not grow up in church. And so I came to her and I said, well, I can't keep running. And she didn't even know what it meant.
And we walked through that. And she walked through it with me, never a hesitant. You know, never any kind of hesitancy in it. She walked with me, she encouraged me. And so I was in my 20s.
And I finally decided to say yes. And so we began to work in that direction. And in 2010, 2000 and 2000 and um Uh six. I left my career and went full-time ministry.
So you left the marketplace, so to speak, and stepped into full-time ministry. And of course, it's not uncommon for even for, I want our listeners out there to understand, you know, some might relate, some might not relate, but it's not uncommon, right? That they're for the enemy of our soul, because there is an enemy of our soul to try to disrupt or derail the plans for each of us that God has for us. And I encourage you out there and listening, go to Psalm 139 and read verses 13 through 16. And there's many others, but just start there, and you'll see that the God of the universe.
Has a plan for every one of our lives. Every one of our lives. And whether he exposes that to you at the age of eight, like he did for Wayne. And it's not uncommon. Let me just throw this in there too: that we hear that that small voice kind of Wanting us to go in that direction and as you said, to run the other way, right?
I mean, gee, let's see. Uh, there's a guy named Jonah in the Bible that uh hey, Jonah, go to Nineveh. I don't think so. I don't like those people in Nineveh, God. I'm going in the opposite direction.
Well, okay, Jonah, let's see how that works out for you. You know, of course, for those who don't know the story, go to your Bible and read the story of Jonah, how it worked out for him running away from God.
So, anyway, someone's going to relate to this conversation today, Wayne. I know it.
So, um, well, that's that's an incredible story.
Well, before we run out of time, kingdom life, like if there's people, uh, we got a couple minutes left, but before we do, if people are maybe they, you know, because I know Virginia Beach, I mean, I've spent many a time walking the beaches of Virginia. And in fact, there's a there's a gym there and four brothers.
So, here's four brothers, not four girls, but four boys. ran the it was an old boxing gym do you know what i'm talking what y'all i'm talking about um i'm trying to i'm trying to remember there's something vaguely that stands out to me and i i don't yeah they they and they always let the boys come in the wrestlers come in and use their gym for for no cost they loved that it was like three floors and was it was just a few blocks off of the beach but was i feel like it's a gold's gym now Yeah, I mean, it wasn't back then, it was their last name.
So I'm just trying to maybe it'll come back to me. Anyway, four boys ran it. Their dad originally opened it. And man, and there was history in that building because they had boxing world champion boxers from back in like the 40s and 50s and 60s. And anyway, that comes to mind how we spent a lot of time at Virginia Beach.
But if people are vacationing or they're just passing through Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, the seven cities, what's a website where they can learn more about kingdom life and maybe even visit you one day if they're in the area and looking for a church? Yeah, of course, we would love it. You know, we get a lot of transient folks that are coming through, passing through, and we would love to have anyone come and check us out in person. It's kingdomlife.com is our website, kingdomlife.com. And we're located in the heart of what they call Great Bridge, Chesapeake.
So we're like a short drive from the oceanfront, short drive from downtown Norfolk. We're kind of nestled in a really unique area of Hampton Roads, beautiful area, Chesapeake. But they can also check us out online. You know, we are live every Sunday on YouTube and Facebook and through our app.
So it's Kingdom Life. And if anyone's looking for the Facebook, it's K-LifePeak, P-E-A-K-E, Chesapeake. K-Life Peak is our kind of hashtag that we go to. But if anybody Googles Kingdom Life Chesapeake, Virginia, they'll be able to find us. And we'd love to have them check us out online and or in person.
Yeah, I assure you. And of course, we're talking with Pastor Wayne Daniels today. And so if you're looking that up online, and that's who you're looking for, Pastor Wayne Daniels. And just make sure we direct you to the right website. And I just say, These guys are doing a great work there in, as I now know, the seven cities.
And so I encourage you, if you're ever in that area or passing through that area, or Check them out, as he said. One of their live broadcasts, one of their live Sunday services, if that works out as well. Hey, quick random question. We're almost ready to wrap it up here, but. Any idea Since you're kind of born and raised in Virginia, I'm trying to get someone from there to tell me why it's known as the lover's state.
Any idea? Just a random question. Yeah.
And you may not know the answer, but.
Well, here's what I'll say. You know, I'm an East Coast guy. You know, I used to have an office in LA and I spent a lot of time on the West Coast. I would just say that there's a big difference between lust and love. And I'll just tell you that the East Coast in Virginia means more to the love side of things.
Well, you know what? I'm not saying that's factual. No, but let's see.
Okay, hold on.
So LA, Hollywood. I think for our listeners, they could probably quickly discern the difference between the two coasts right there: lust versus love. I love that, Wayne. And in fact, one thing that's kept me in the Carolinas living longer than anywhere else at this point is just the southern hospitality, just how friendly and lovable the people are.
So, all right, Pastor Wayne Daniels, Kingdom Life up in Chesapeake, Virginia. Great to have you with us today on the Man Up Show. It's been great. It's been great to be with you. Thank you so much for inviting me.
Awesome. And for all you out there listening, Ian, here's my challenge to you as we wrap up the show today: go out today and have a God-filled and live a God-filled life. God-filled and have a God-blessed. day. Until next time.
