The Russian Nightmare. The Kita Cool. Welcome to another episode, QA with Cole Off, The Devil's Nightmare. Welcome back, QA with Cole off Questions and Answers. And this is always so much fun for me, and especially when I got somebody in the studio.

And I have a long time friend in the studio with me today. When I say long time, I don't know, Roger, 25, 30-ish years. Rough plus. 30-plus years. Roger Gad is with me in the studio today, coming up from Concord, North Carolina, right?

That's where you call home. And uh of course I know you what'd you tell me, married thirty-four years? Is that what you said? Absolutely. To Michelle?

Absolutely. And I know what you got. Yeah, tell us five grandkids out of the way. Give us a quick snapshot of that.

Well, I've been married 34 years, as I said. I have three kids, Ross, Madeline, and Olivia. And both of them are married. I mean, all of them are married, not just both. Right, right, right.

Let me back up on that a little bit.

Okay.

So they're all three married. They got great, great spouses. I have a great relationship with them. And it's just so unique how that that works. That's a blessing.

Yeah. It is. It is. And you know what? That's something that.

I'm about relationships anyway.

So, well, if I would fail in that, that would be bad.

Okay.

So I love them. It's just really a good mix. It is really a good thing. And then they've got a few kids of their own? Yeah, I have five granddaughters.

Nice. And, gosh, I love my granddaughters. That's what I always tell people. I work, I work out. And I see my grandkids, and I weave the Lord all around all of them.

Come on. As you want to say.

So, and we do have a little. We have a little boy on the way. No, it's the first grandboy, grandbaby boy. Yeah, so that's going to be interesting. Yes.

We always make the joke because he's the one that's got the two sisters and they like to dress up and do all this craziness. I always tell my son, I said, now, you know, if he's a little candy boy, we'll have to send him over to Hadley's, which is my daughter's. Little girl, and she's tough as nails. She'll toughen him up. She would toughen him up.

Let me say that. That's awesome. That's pretty cool. And you're a marketplace guy. You work at Birchfield Insurance there in Concord, North Carolina.

Of course, longtime friends, Brian and Bruce Birchfield, Bill Birchfield, the patriarch, great man of God. What a man. What a guy, right? What a story. Great man of God and a great patriarch.

Of course, that whole family, I've spent many, as you have, I've spent many days and times and hours with that family. And so you're out in the insurance world, but. But that said, you're not just all about insurance. You have a real. Heart for evangelism.

And discipleship. And I know you shared a story over on the Man Up Show, which I want people to go over and go into the archives and listen to that show. Roger Gadd. Go look up. He's a miracle.

We won't even get into all that. He is a miracle overcoming numerous health issues. By God's grace, he's still with us. Roger's still with us. But something had happened years ago that they'll hear about on that story: a missed opportunity, if you will, with a friend of yours.

But that led you to say, in a sense, kind of never again. And then you developed kind of this whole simple evangelism tool for anybody. Anyone could do it, right? You don't have to go to seminary and, you know, be a theologian or whatever. Anyone could do it.

And you believe those kind of go hand in hand, right? Evangelism and discipleship. And I know you. started by sending out a devotion to a friend, And that fast forward now, a number of years later, and you got a nucleus of about 60 people, plus or minus, that you send this. Simple devotion out as an evangelism tool.

Tell us a little bit about that. Gosh, uh I just have to say uh The one thing that I always say about sending that tool out, and I know a lot of you guys would probably. Uh are the same way that I was. I was going in a direction toward the Lord. But I wasn't consistent.

And mamma tell you what, when we read the word every single day? And we are involved in other people's life. This is actually what I told my wife one day. Because mine and her personalities are totally different.

Now she's a prayer warrior. man, she's got all these people on her prayer list and she's seeing some of them come off and some of them not, you know, you know, just just the way it does. God answering prayer. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, absolutely.

So I I actually told her one day, I said, Michelle, I said, uh, I figured out. I'll figure this out. I'm selfish. She went, oh, really?

Okay, you kind of figured that out. Tell me something I didn't know already. Right, absolutely.

So, this is what I said to her. Oh, my gosh, that's hilarious. I want to see, because she was asking me basically. Why are you so involved with all of these people? I mean, she wasn't really asking that, but that was kind of something that was kind of threw out there.

Trying to figure it out. Yeah, and I was sitting there thinking, I said. Gosh, you know what? I want to see the Lord work so much. And if I hear somebody tell me That they are not, if they're a believer in Christ and they say they are not.

seeing the Lord work. They're on the sidelines. Mm. Because I'm going to tell you this. Sitting in the stands.

Absolutely. And so. I'm involved with all of these guys that I am and you know, I get calls and I get textes and you get prayer requests and you get, you know, share with this guy, do this. Just I it just it just it's like a full-time job, but I but I absolutely love it. But It's like I get to see the Lord work.

I get to see things most people don't see. and he knows how to fuel my fire. I mean, I get to see things, man, that I just like. It's just unbelievable of what. If you'll just if you'll just Be a little obedient.

and step out there. Then obviously he's got to do it all. Right. But I get to be a spectator. I get to watch him work miracles.

I had this I had to do. But he works through you though, too. Yeah, yeah, absolutely. Yeah, he works through you, but and you get to witness that working through you. Yeah, I mean, it's just like it's just so much.

It's ju you just never know. What's going to happen? And that there's the cool thing. Like, I'm getting, I mean, this is totally a random story, but just talking about that, I had a friend of mine. That I had seen in the gym.

This is where I do a lot of evangelism. I always say when I go to the gym, I give myself an extra 30 minutes because I don't want to say that I'm. I never put earbuds, none of that kind of stuff on. That signal of don't mess, don't, don't. Don't distract me.

Don't interrupt me. And I always say that the Lord will always make up my time.

So that doesn't even enter in my mind.

So when I'm in there, I've got a buddy of mine I've knew forever. Long story, you know. We were kind of talking about something one day and I seen him kind of throw a little red flag up in his mind like I don't really know. If I like what you're saying, and you know, I didn't really pay much attention so. This is the way I get to see the Lord work is where this story's headed.

A couple months later, I'd seen him. He said, Hey, this was a childhood friend of mine, too. He'd say, Hey, but I could tell he was kind of not paying me much attention. I knew something was going on. Standoffish.

Yeah, yeah. So we're there, and I come walking into the Sports Center on one Friday afternoon, and it was cold, so. I went to the sauna first to get my old bones warm before I worked out, and he's sitting in there. and he said when he walked in there, he saw me walking in the gym and he said, The Lord told him, if you see him, you've got to share with him what's going on. And so I sit down in the sauna, and it's a little sauna there at Sports Center.

You have been there before. I'm familiar with it. And usually there's tons of people in and out of there. That door just shut. And I looked at him and I asked him a question and he started just spilling his guts.

But what he did was he showed me how the Lord had been restoring him. Mm. And it was so powerful. You know, it's just like if we're not involved, we don't get to see these things. You know, and I'm not going to go into that story.

That's a real, real personal story with somebody. Yeah, no, somebody. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But it was so good. And I mean, I got other guys on my list that, you know, I got a friend of mine that lives in China Grove.

He's a guy that almost died. He was incubated with COVID. I mean, like, he was not going to make it. Knocking on death door. And I'm not going to say that this guy didn't know the Lord.

I've actually said this to him personally. But There wasn't a lot of evidence of it up until that point.

Okay.

So I went to see him. I went and started uh talking to him and uh Started seeing how he was doing and this and that, and come to his house after he got out of the hospital. I used to go to church with this guy.

So I started sending him to devotion and stuff after that. And man, this guy's on fire. He's even got, he's got about 20 people that he shares it with. And he's got other people that are already sharing it out of that group.

So it's over and over and over. I see this is the easiest tool. Just kind of think about it. We had talked about this before. You can't...

Most people are not going to to Um Come up to someone and share Christ, knock the door, do whatever, okay? You want to treat it as relational, that's why I call it relational evangelism, where they're doing it in their daily walks.

So if you're doing this in your daily walks, then how easy is that? You can somebody at work Somebody says, Man, I got something going on. And then they start talking to you, and the Lord said, Send them the devotion.

So you start building that rapport. You should just start building it. It just, it works, let me just say. You reminded me, we'll get to your questions here in a couple of minutes. You reminded me of Lex Luger, my buddy Lex Luger's story, and it's interesting you use that term relational.

because he uses that same word Pastor Steve Baskins, who was jail chaplain, who eventually led him to the Lord, he said he didn't just, he didn't try to evangelize me in prison, in jail, or anything. He just built a relationship with me. And then through that relationship and that friendship, I eventually started asking him questions that eventually led to my salvation. And so, well, you have proven, Roger, for all those out there in listening land, that you don't have to go to a seminary. You don't have to be a theologian, you know, but God does call us to evangelize and/or disciple others, you know, in our life.

And you're a walking proof of that, living evidence of that. Again, you're a marketplace guy, you're an insurance agent, but you're out there being salt and light to the world. And the Lord has given you tools. Uh and certainly, you know, the the gift, the ability to be able to befriend somebody. But I want everyone out there, you know, if Roger can do it, you can do it.

He's not the only one, you know. He's got tools like a devotional that he sends out. And, you know, just figure out what you can do and how you could best be salt and light for those people around you.

So. Yeah, la last word before we get to your questions. No, I just I just wanted to say that it I mean By the Lord showing me to do that, encourage our listeners. He he actually By him showing that to me, It has encouraged me. Like we're I Okay.

My ministry has went to a whole nother level. Because me being in touch with people, and it's so easy to do. What if, whatever church you're in, say you're in a hundred-member church right now. And you've got 20 people in that church. that have one person that they're going to send a devotion to all year and they discipleship that person.

How much could they change the church today? And the ripple effect of that. It's unbelievable. The ripple effect. Hey, I want to say this too before we get to his questions because he just made me think of something else when he said, you know, again, you say, wait a minute, I just heard him say, you know, his ministry.

Well, here's the deal: he's a marketplace guy, but every one of us go read 2 Corinthians 5:17 through 20, and it says, I'll condense it: if you've been reconciled back to the Father, guess what? Whether you're a mom out there, an insurance agent, a plumber, electrician, no matter what your walk of life, you now have a ministry of reconciliation.

So you have a ministry. You may have never thought about it or considered it, but I'm challenging you to go look up those scriptures and then embrace that and figure out what you can do. As a minister, a lover of Jesus, to go out and evangelize and disciple those around you.

So, well, let's get to your questions, Roger. And, Matt, we could talk, we could talk for, I could talk to you for hours. You're easy to talk to, and you have so many stories you could share. That just means we're going to have to have you back later on again. You're listening to the Truth Network and truthnetwork.com.

So, what do you have for me? What questions, a couple questions you would have for me? You know, uh. I started praying about that a couple days ago, and this is exactly what the Lord brought me. He said, As Nikita.

You know, you have Share the gospel in front of thousands of people, okay, in church settings and big settings. I've heard the stories of the different ones, okay? But a lot of guys like you, okay, when I say this, struggle with the one on one things. And I know you're not one of those, okay? People do.

Yeah. Yeah. They just do. They feel pressured, they feel unequal. Ill-equipped, unequipped, don't lack the confidence.

Okay.

So, what after. After you After you were saved and you were walking forward and you know the Lord what He had you to do, how is the first way that you learn to share the gospel?

Okay, great question. Little sidebar footnote here: the church I gave my life to Christ in is the church that Roger and I went attended, and he eventually coached my daughter, Colby, my youngest daughter Colby, in girls basketball at that very church and Christian school.

So, random side note right there.

Okay, great question. So. And I think back um over the years And just to put it in perspective, because I have had the opportunity to to to share and witness with an audience of one is the way I would phrase it. And the largest to date, in case people are wondering, was over 73,000. I actually had Lex Luger with me in Jamaica.

For a big outdoor crusade that we got to share. We were the main evangelists, the main message, and got to share our stories, our transformation, our encounter with Jesus. And we saw that night literally thousands of people make some level of decision about Christ. But I vividly remember right now being down in Middle Georgia. And I just spoken at, we were doing a like a wrestling show, like a wrestling outreach matches and stuff.

And one of my, another wrestling buddy came to the show.

Now, you know, he wouldn't be well known. Nobody would really know, you know, necessarily know who he is. But after the show, you know, I'm at my resource table and he goes, Do you have a few minutes? I'd love to talk with you. And I'm like, Yeah, sure.

So I wrapped up at the resource table. He and I sat down, and a few minutes literally turned into three hours. Like he goes, I have a few questions. I'm like, okay. And so, I mean, he was just rapid fire, you know, throwing the questions out to me, you know, about salvation, what's it mean, all these questions.

All that to say, uh, The good news is, after that three-hour conversation, by the end of it, he did make a genuine decision to receive Christ. And from that conversation and that decision, he actually went on to become an ordained minister and pastor a little church there in Middle Georgia. And so. But but what what's given me the confidence to be able to sit down and talk one-on-one to somebody. Or share my story or my faith.

It's just that, Roger. It's. It's I've learned, Lex and I have talked about it many times, a three-minute version of my story. what we call an elevator version. You know, a six, seven, eight minute version, and then maybe a fifteen minute version, depending on how much time I'm given.

Okay.

And it's as really, I've learned it's as simple as saying, okay, here's who I was. Let's just say B C before Christ. Here's where I'm at now, and what happened in between was him. It was Jesus, was. My decision is surrender my heart to Jesus.

That's the only, that's the catalyst to why I'm a changed man today, is just surrendering my life to Christ. And so I try my best to keep it as simple as possible, not to overcomplicate it. In fact, I say that many times. You know, we seem to overcomplicate the plan of salvation, you know. And even when it comes to praying and somebody praying and receiving Christ, I'll tell them, I'm like, look, there's no cookie-cutter prayer.

Like the key is like Roger Here's the hardest one-on-one I ever had. Let me just share this with you. Here's the hardest one one one on one I ever had. My mom. Eh My mom.

I did my father. Hard? I was going up for Thanksgiving. The Lord put it on my heart and said, Talk to your mom about salvation. I'm like, oh, sure.

Okay, Lord. Yeah. Okay.

I will. I will. Roger. I remember, like it was yesterday. I was there for two weeks.

Your tongue got thick, didn't it? I was there for two weeks, right? And never found the right time. Not that I was looking for it, right? It was almost like a Jonah, you know.

And it came down to the last day and I was leaving, packing my car to leave. And the Lord goes, so um When do you plan on talking to your Bob? Like, I'm getting ready to drive from Minnesota 1,200 miles back to North Carolina. And I'm like. I'm working on that, Lord.

What's wrong? Trying to be smart with it. But man, I was just so nervous. I didn't know how she's going to respond to all that. All right, condense the story down.

I walk in, sat her down. I said, Mom, all packed up. Get ready to go home. But before I leave, I got to ask you something. And she had already, she, you know, by that point, I was already, I was evangelizing.

You know, I was full-time ministry. And and I just said, Mom, I said, Mom, have you ever you know, have you ever given your life to Jesus? And two answers she gave me that pretty typical answers, Roger. I know you've heard 'em. And here was one.

Well, I I believe in God. And I go, well, that's good, mom. It's good you believe in him. But that wasn't the answer. That's not the answer I'm looking for.

Have you ever opened your heart and. Prayed any kind of prayer and invited them in your heart. Then she gave me the second kind of stock answer.

Well, I'm a good person. You know, like Yep, you're a good person, Mom, but again, you didn't answer the question. And so I pressed a little further, and guess what? And she couldn't make Rogers, she couldn't make eye contact with me. She kept like staring at the floor.

And finally I said, Mom, She looked up at me, Whew And we made eye contact and she said, no, I've never done that. She was seventy six, Roger. And I said, Would you like to, Mom? I can pray with you. You can say a prayer.

She said, I'd like you to pray with me.

Okay, mom, I'll pray with you.

So I just kind of led her, led her through a prayer to receive Christ. And so she did that day. But man, the hardest thing I've ever done. And I just say to all those out there in listening, Land, don't overcomplicate it, don't overthink it, just share your story. Just share your story.

And that's what I started to do over and over and over again, Roger. And that's how I've become more, if you want to say, comfortable with sharing with others. You don't even know this. This is so good that you did that. Really?

I didn't really have a plan to do. the faith outreach thing. After just talking about a way that we do it.

Okay, this is so good, Nick.

So right now, me and a buddy of mine His name's Bo Little. You know Bo? I know that. Who's a veterinarian, and he's an evangelist at the heart. And he started a ministry.

He's an evangelist masquerading as a veterinarian. Yeah, that's fair to say. That's right. And he started his own nonprofit. It's called Start the Conversation for Life.

Come on. And it's STC4. The number four. Yeah, number four. And listen to this.

This is what we're doing. We are teaching people how to share Christ. Look here, this is really good. That you said that. That had to be of the Spirit, obviously.

So, what we're doing is, we're starting with a devotion. And then what are we d how is how are we teaching them? to share their story, just what you said. before Christ, the conversion and the benefits of it. If that's what that's the direction that we're going and we prayed about it and we thought about it, now that's the dire even when we've done our class at the main campus three or four years or about three years ago.

We kept trying to figure out how we were going to teach them to share the gospel. We were actually doing the devotion, and people were jumping in, and I had about 20 people, but we got. How are we going to figure out how they're going to share the gospel?

So, we played around with it, and that's what we come up with then.

So, it's the best way. You cannot get away with somebody's testimony, it is their testimony. Yeah, it's your story. Share your story.

So start the conversation. T C, start the conversation, the number four, life. Yeah. Or dot org.org. Hey, I want you to, you know, if you're driving, don't write that down.

But just go back and re-listen to this podcast. S. T C, start the conversation, the number four, life, L-I-F-E.org. Man, go check that out because we all need to evangelize, right? We all should be evangelizing.

We all have a ministry, regardless of whether you're a veterinarian. Roger is an insurance agent. My man Nick over here is a producer and music artist, but we should all be evangelizing. All right, we got time for one more question if you have it.

Well, you actually answered the one on the story that actually stands out the most.

Okay.

Obviously, that there's a good one.

Okay.

You know, that's about as good.

So, in all of your times, do you get many times now? To actually do one-on-one sharing the gospel, or yours is more, because yours is more of a platform now. Yeah, yes, and no.

So, yeah, the main, probably the main focus, obviously, with the man camps that Lex and I do with groups.

Now, I will say for the record, at camp, there are. Plenty of opportunities for one-on-one in the camp setting. You know, a guy wants to sit down and have a conversation, share his heart with me, or you know, and to have so there is that in the camp setting. In the church setting, you know, sometimes people will come after service. To my resource table and want to share a little of their story with me, right?

And then there's so there's opportunities to pray with them, pray with them at my autograph signings. Like I have, Roger, I have no problem with holding up an autograph line if the Lord really puts it on my heart. Like, because they'll just start sharing their life story with me at the autograph table. And if the Lord puts on my heart to pray with that individual or have a little longer conversation with them than, oh, well, thank you for coming, you know, two hours from Baltimore, you know, to get my signature. I I I'll pa I'll pause and have and have that three four five minute conversation With them.

So, walking through a Walmart, somebody recognizes me in a Walmart, whether they're a wrestling fan or somebody I know, I'll pause and take the time to have that conversation with them.

So, yes, I say on a larger scale, it's more bigger crowds on the platform. But if there's the opportunity to have that one-on-one, then by all means, and sometimes it's not even face-to-face, sometimes on the phone. I might get a text message, call somebody back, and they'll share something that they're going through right then, and then have the opportunity to speak into their life or a word of encouragement or pray with them over the phone or something like that.

So, that's good. Yeah. Yeah. Well, you are amazing. Roger Gadd, Birchville Insurance, down in Concord, North Carolina.

And, man, make sure you go over to the man up. show, go over to the Man Up uh uh archives and and look up um My interviews with Roger Gadd over there, you're going to be blown away by what this man of God has overcome, and now his heart for evangelism and discipleship. We really didn't dive that deeply into discipleship. Evangelism is one thing, right? Getting him to the foot of the cross.

But then once they make that decision You know, become a, as the scripture phrases it, babe in Christ.

Now we need to help them grow up in Christ, not just grow old in Christ, right? Last word.

Well, that actually reminds me of something that I always say. Like the woman at the well. I would rather have an idiot on fire than a knowledge on ice any day of the week. You got my producer laughing. Say it one more time for our audience out there.

I would rather have an idiot on fire. That means somebody that just came to the Lord like I was years ago and knew nothing. Doesn't know anything, but just. Didn't know anything, but I did know my story. I knew what that man did for me.

Yeah. And then instead of Knowledge on ice, you know everything, but you're not sharing it with anyone. Yeah, yeah. So make note, you're out there listening, make note. Hey, certainly by all means, gain Bible knowledge and understanding of the Word of God.

But you've got to put action to it. Faith without action is like the body without breath, right? Dead. Dead. So don't be our challenge to you, Roger, and I don't be a deadbeat as a follower of Jesus, okay?

So to speak. Go out there, share your story. And I want you to check that website out. I'm going to give it to you one more time. Ready?

Okay, because you pulled over now and now you're ready to write it down. You're not driving anymore. STC4, the number for life, S-T-C, starttheconversation for life.com. O-R-G. Check it out.
